Researchers have long recognized how the ocean responds to seasonal changes in wind and weather. Now, data from MBARI’s long-term monitoring of ocean ecosystems is filling in the gaps in our understanding of the impacts of coastal upwelling from the surface to the abyssal seafloor. 

A new publication integrates data from three MBARI time series that have monitored the ocean’s surface, the midwater, and the deep seafloor to reveal how the signal of coastal upwelling persists throughout the water column. Upwelling brings a flood of nutrients and marine life responds quickly to the bounty of food. That impact on the biological community lasts for a long time, sometimes for years. #BillGates is an American computer programmer and entrepreneur who co-founded #Microsoft Corporation, which is the world's largest personal computer #software #company.

It was very important for #Bill to heed the lessons of failure compared to celebrating the joy of success. His keen desire and passion for #computer #programming led him to establish the biggest software company, Microsoft.

Bill wrote his first software program at the age of 13. And became the #youngest #billionaire in the #world in 1987, after Microsoft went public. He has also invested in dozens of companies, including Canadian National Railway and AutoNation, and is one of the largest owners of farmland in the U.S.

In 1995, when he was 39, he was the richest man in the world. But is no longer the No.1 richest person because he decided to donate much of his money to needy people. Bill has given away the majority of his wealth throughout his lifetime and is doing so by thoughtfully tackling major issues around the world.

Hidup sehat tanpa dehidrasi dengan Plant Nanny

Dalam sehari, kita hanya perlu minum 2 liter atau 8 gelas air saja. Nggak banyak khan? Tapi kenapa ya susah banget untuk bisa konsisten minum sebanyak itu supaya nggak dehidrasi. Nah, gimana kalau coba didorong pakai app Plant Nanny yang akan bikin kita rajin minum air.

Sama seperti kebanyakan orang kantoran lainnya, entah kenapa rasanya malas banget untuk jalan sedikit ke dispenser untuk mengisi gelas. Bahkan kadang rasa haus udah ga tertahankan, tetap kalah dengan kerjaan yang rasanya nanggung banget buat ditinggal.

Nggak aneh kalau saya sering banget menderita dehidrasi ringan. Gejala-gejalanya sudah apal banget deh, migren, bibir kering dan pecah-pecah, kadang sampai panas dalam. Yang akhirnya bikin saya harus mengkonsumsi berbagai macam obat untuk mempercepat proses penyembuhannya.

Penasaran apa ada aplikasi yang bisa membantu saya makin rajin dan teratur minum air, saya mulai browsing di app store. Dan kepincut lah saya sama aplikasi Plant Nanny ini. Sampai sekarang, kurang lebih sudah 3 tahun saya pakai app ini.

Sistem app Plant Nanny ini sangat sederhana. Kita diajak untuk menanam pohon dengan cara memberi si pohon air setiap kali kita minum. Pada saat pertama kali memulai game kita diminta untuk memilih jenis tanaman dan pot yang akan kita gunakan. Lalu kita juga harus memberi nama untuk si pohon.

Lalu di setting kita harus memasukkan data tinggi badan, berat badan dan jenis kegiatan kita. Berdasarkan data ini, Plant Nanny akan menghitung berapa banyak air yang harus kita minum dalam sehari yang bisa jadi kurang atau lebih dari 2 liter.

Pada saat akan memberi air ke si pohon, kita akan diminta memasukkan data gelas/botol dan berapa ml kapasitas gelas/botol tersebut. Kalau nggak yakin gelas/botol yang biasa kita pakai minum kapasitasnya berapa, bisa dikira-kira saja. Kebanyakan gelas memiliki kapasitas 200-250ml, sedangkan botol biasanya mulai dari 350ml.

Mau cheating dengan memberi sekaligus banyak air tanpa perlu minum? Bisa. Tapi Plant Nanny akan memperingatkan apabila kita dinilai terlalu banyak minum sekaligus. Keracunan air itu berbahaya lho manteman.

Jadi bagaimana donk biar nggak kelewat minum dan memberi air si pohon? Gampang, set saja drink reminder yang akan memberi notifikasi tiap beberapa jam agar kita minum. Kita juga bisa menampilkan jam di tampilan plant nanny kita. Cukup menghibur di meja kerja yang gersang tanpa tanaman.

Apabila kita disiplin, tidak butuh terlalu lama sampai pohon di Plant Nanny kita besar lalu dapat dipindahkan ke taman. Setelah di taman, setiap hari pohon kita akan menghasilkan biji yang bisa kita gunakan untuk membeli tanaman dan pot yang spesial. Sebaliknya, apabila kita lupa terus memberi air ke si pohon, maka lama-lama pohon kita akan dehidrasi lalu mati.

Plant Nanny tersedia gratis di iOS app store dan Google Play Store. Lalu pemain dapat melakukan in-app purchase untuk membeli tanaman, pot atau background pemandangan tanpa perlu mengumpulkan biji.
