it probably wouldn't be intentional though. like he's shuffling a house music playlist and spotify reccommends him you can't hide or something and he's like "hmmm. this artist is particularly intruiging let me check out their discography" and then he goes down a rabbit hole and suddenly he has a playlist full of fnaf music and he doesn't even know what fnaf IS.

and one day he's hanging out with maya he puts on the playlist and she goes "oh! i didn't know you liked fnaf edgeworth!" and he says "what is this fnaf you speak of" and shes just like "😶😶‍🌫️. i think my least favorite tiny facet of mtg criticism is treating the last 2 non-universes beyond sets as a part of the universes beyond problem. like i'm here for critiques of business practices, critiques of the story on a literary level, critiques of the game design... even if i don't agree, or don't feel like it's as bad as the critique is making it out to be, or do agree but am not trying to build a charge bar of dissatisfaction to have a righteous extinction burst with the franchise.

but i do kind of see this persistent little thing of mkm and otj being like. not 'real' magic sets and essentially just universes beyond sets and it kind of annoys me.

I think part of it is because even though I don't normally ship it, when I'm reading it or looking at it, that's the ship I'm dedicated to, & if it's slow burn, that's what I'm waiting for.

2003 Headcanon: Age Order Role Switching

So I wanna talk about a headcanon I've had for a really long time; namely, the "age order" for the 2003 turtles. They were all born at the same time, but they sorta take on age order roles. The most obvious is Leo as the eldest, Mikey as the youngest, and Raph and Donnie in the middle. They take on these age roles and default to Leo, Raph, Donnie, Mikey.

HOWEVER, they switch their age order role around depending on what everyone needs. If one of them is having a bad day, they get baby-brothered. If one of them is feeling super protective, they get older-brothered.

Raph and Donnie switch the most. Raph gets into older brother mode when he's protecting Donnie while he's trying to do his techno-genius.

Donnie goes big brother mode when Mikey and Leo are out and Raph's pacing because they're a little late and Donnie will help distract him by info-dumping or sparring. Donnie goes big brother mode when Raph is upset by Splinter missing. He does it when they're working in the garage together and he's patiently teaching Raph how to fix up his bike for the first time so Raph can do it himself.

Raph becomes the oldest brother during the City at War arc, because Leo's upset and obsessing over this one thing and he can't stop, and Donnie and Mikey are following him mostly so he doesn't get into trouble. Leo becomes baby brother and they're catering to him because he can't stop thinking about it, he can't let it go.

Donnie becomes big brother to Leo during the Big Brawl, when he's hovering over Leo and grabbing Usagi's wrist and threatening "Don't you dare touch him." Leo becomes the youngest when he's sick. He wants to be babied when he's sick even if he won't admit it.

Mikey becomes older brother when all his brothers are worn out and hopeless and scared and he has to make jokes. When he's about to be dissected, he becomes the oldest brother and makes jokes so his little brothers don't panic. So Raph squeezing his eyes shut and looking away will be reassured that Mikey's not scared, even if they're all so scared they're fucking terrified.

Mikey becomes the eldest during Leo's post-exodus arc, and Leo becomes the youngest. He's hurting and only Mikey recognizes how. Leo becomes his big brother again when he's training him for the Battle Nexus, and he smiles softly at Mikey and tells him he knew he could do it, and Mikey gets a glimpse of his big brother. It slips away again before he can grasp that version of him and hold him steady.

After Usagi leaves in Samurai Tourist, everyone disperses to their rooms except Mikey, because Mikey saw Leo's face, saw Leo's fingers twitching and his hands shaking and the expression and he goes after his little brother and becomes the eldest while he holds Leo and doesn't tell him that everything's going to be okay. He doesn't tell Leo he did his best, that he's good, that it's not his fault. He just repeats over and over that he loves Leo so much. Leo is his brother and he loves him so much, no matter what.

Anyway this is closely tied to my "2003 Leo has OCD" headcanon which I will also write one day.

Western Cyberpunk and Techno-Orientalism

Okay, let me speak about something that apparently was not well known to a lot of people, given I got some comments on it on my "History of Cyberpunk" story.

There is a reason for Western Cyberpunk being so heavily clad in the aesthetic of Japan. I chose the Blade Runner graphic above, because it shows it so very well. With a Japanese Geisha aesthetic in the ads we see in the world. But even in those early books that came to influence the genre so much, we can see it. With people working for Japanese companies. With Japanese companies as the antagonists. And of course our individualistic punky protagonists might get called "Street Samurai" and "Code Ninja". And no, the reason was in fact not: "Japan is so hecking cool and they got all the technology." Because, as you might notice: The antagonists tend to be connected to Japanese Megacons.

The background to this is the economic boom of post-war Japan. Originally as the second world war ended, the US saw an opportunity to use Japan as a country that would produce all sorts of parts, that then could be used for American productions. And, compared to Germany, the US was also a lot more "hands off" with Japan for several reasons. But, yeah. Japan was supposed to be a supplier mostly of electronic parts for the US.

But from the US' point of view it worked a bit too well. Because Japan became really, really good with the electronics stuff. So good in fact that instead of producting part for the US, they soon started to produce their own electronic products that got sold internationally then. Leading to a boom of the Japanese economy.

And this economic boom was so big, that Japan soon enough began investing into the ecnomy outside of Japan. Aka: Japan bought shares in Western companies - at times even the majority share.

One of the to me most speaking details is, that at a time the Rockefeller center was owned by a Japanese company. And with the US economy at times struggling at the time (after the initial post-war boom was over9, while Japan's economy was constantly rising, it seemed.

And Japan was obviously "other". It was not Western culture. This idea of collectivism that very much defined Japanese economy of the time was in direct opposition to the hyper-individualistic ideal of the USA.

And hence there was a constant anxiety that Japan would just... take over the USA/the west. Which then for Cyberpunk translated into this idea that there were Japanese companies everywhere and Japanese company structures being mirrored as well. With people talking to each other with honorifics and what not.

But of course there is also the fact that this is not just the fear of being taken over by the "evil" collectivist Japanese, but also a very superficial understanding of Japanese culture as a vaguely defined "other". Which is what makes this entire thing kinda iffy. Because it just turns this thing into a very iffy trope.

Ironically, of course, people just kept it also unquestioning in the genre, even though that the fear - after the 90s brought the economic collaps in Japan - does no longer seem realistic.

But, yeah... I know that a lot of fans of the genre, who were predisposed to anime and the (still orientalist) idea of how cool Japan is and never saw all the Japanese stuff in Cyberpunk and were like "Wow, this is awesome!" But... when the genre was created, it was actually part of the dystopia.

SEGA's Most Famous Hedgehog Speeds His Way To... A Saturday Night T3 Marathon Special?

Hello, anime fans and video gamers. I am Gabriel Ramos, DJ and live-streamer for Toon Time Theater. Since it is approaching Sonic the Hedgehog's birthday, I plan on celebrating it the night before with a 12-episode SONIC X marathon. I know it may sound overkill, but it is the fact that SONIC X aired on 4Kids' Saturday morning blocks in the past few decades, particularly, the Fox Box, The CW 4Kids, Toonzai and lastly, Vortexx on the CW. I am eager to run a marathon and test the waters to see if viewers are interested in seeing more SONIC X on the New Gabe Order Twitch channel. I figured because of the isekai anime saturation that's happening now, and I have TSUBASA: Reservoir Chronicle as my only current isekai anime in the Saturday morning lineup. After the marathon, I will set up a promoted poll that will last until Friday morning when T3 Express signs on. I will check the poll live and reveal the next Saturday morning lineups before I live-stream an episode of Bartender. If no one votes, a draw happens, or if most of you vote to keep SONIC X out of the Saturday morning cram session, then I will cut SONIC X unless I plan another special Saturday night marathon. I doubt it'll happen, but who knows?
