What's each of the main casts' favorite music genre?
Eleanor - classical, opera; she can play piano
Charlie - jazz, vaudeville
Dolly - ragtime, jazz, swing, musical show tunes (songs from old Betty Boop cartoons and the soundtrack to Raggedy Ann & Andy: A Musical Adventure seem to be among her favorites), as well as country music (with a particular liking to Dolly Parton)
Gabe - classic rock, punk rock, new wave, alt rock, metal, early hip-hop
Pauline - pop rock, pop music, secret love for musicals
Jen - pop music, ska, indie pop, J-Pop and J-Rock (knows all the lyrics to all her favourite anime openings). She also loves musicals
Tammy - same as Jen tbh, except for the musicals. She isn't sure if it's the result of her toy brain or not, but she has also taken a liking to synth and techno
Mel - pop music, indie music, children's songs (definitely the result of her toy brain)
Maria - oh boy, sorta a mix of everyone's on this list. Definitely into rock, pop, indie, grunge, musicals, unironically loves The Nutcracker Suite. She used to play guitar before coming to Toyland
André - pop punk, grunge, really into scene/emo. He used to play drums

Certified Saturday Morning Bangers of the 80s
(Incomplete, In no Particular Order)
I've probably done this post before, or something dangerously close, but I don't care, so lets rock!
Where possible, i've gotten extended cuts. This means video quality won't always be prime, but we're here for the tunes.
No Guts No Glory - Galaxy Rangers Theme
youtube
No Guts no Glory is a strong opener, both for one of the bizarrely common space cowboy shows of the 80s and for this post. It is a textbook Saturday Morning Banger, more believable as a real song than some actual 80s radio hits minus the name shoutout to Galaxy Rangers.
Can't blame 'em for working the song into an episode as a music video. This is something modern 'toons ought to do. 3 minute pop-song opener, make the full version in an ep, and use that section as a youtube trailer.
M.A.S.K. Theme - M.A.S.K.: Mobile Armor Strike Kommand
youtube
MASK is a show that, if it didn't exist, would be the fake 80s cartoon in other TV shows, and the theme song is the platonic ideal of 80s cartoon theme songs, a Shuki Levy-penned techno-pop earworm proudly belting the show/toyline theme without a trace of irony.
No one would mistake it for a radio hit, but it still hits right. See the laser rays fire away, indeed.
Count Duckula Theme - Count Duckula
youtube
I literally have a whole post about this theme song.
As a fan of novelty music, this slaps.
Wheeled Warriors - Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors
youtube
Can you sue a theme song for false advertising? Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors was a notorious flop and a tower of missed potential. It's theme song, on the other hand, threads the needle evenly between the radio-ready Galaxy Rangers and the delightful cornball sincerity of M.A.S.K.
"Wheeled Warriors" may seem like an odd topic for a song but I remind you that Judas Priest exists.
Jem is My Name - Jem and the Holograms
youtube
This song actually would have topped the charts if the cassettes sold with the toys counted as album sales. That's not a joke.
It also beats the trend of "boast songs" with a guest verse from a rival band by literal decades. Truly a pioneer, truly, truly outrageous.
Zone Riders - Spiral Zone
youtube
Meanwhile, the opening to Spiral Zone was very indicative of what you'd get, a tonally odd mixture of high cheese and Poe-faced intensity. A chorus singing the concept of the show with the reverence of a hymn.
C.O.P.S. Theme - C.O.P.S. (Central Organization of Police Specialists)
youtube
No, not the FOX series that set humanity back decades, but the wacky 30s-retro cyberpunk G.I.Joe sequel. An excellent sample of a minimal theme song, not quire a pure instrumental, but a lot of fun and just pleasant to listen to.
I might post more later. But if you're looking for covers for your weird soundcloud project, there ya go.

Today’s compilation:
Montreal Basement CD1 1999 Techno / House / Tech-House
Alright, so, yesterday I wrote about an awful late 90s house comp from a tiny, now-defunct label called Distr!ck of Montréal, but today I'm back with another Distr!ck dispatch that's a bit better and more eclectic. What marred yesterday's tunes was their utter lack of lead melody, but these ones don't shy away from implementing them. Still, though, for the most part, this is a pretty monotonous dance CD; Monotonoustréal 😬.
BUT, even though I don't have any true Highlights here, there are still a couple tracks on this release that are worth mentioning. Unfortunately, though, neither of them are on YouTube 😥.
First is Mike the Modulator Man's "Vomit #34." I don't love this track, but it's definitely different. Mike toys around with this wonky acid synth the whole time, but rather than doing something normal, like filling out the silence between it and the four-on-the-floor techno kickdrum with a nice synth pad, he decides to loop up a sampled power tool in action instead. And while that didn't bring me to love the track, overall, I still think that using a power tool is a fun and somewhat unique wrinkle here. And you can pair it with a tune like Armand van Helden's great hard-party jam, "Necessary Evil," which samples and loops up a hand saw. And then if you collect enough dance tracks that use the sounds of tools, you can call your compilation The Toolbox or something 😅.
The other nifty track is a techno joint that's genuinely brilliant, but goes just a tad too hard for me: Misstress Barbara's "Someone's Elimination," which appears to be exclusive to this Montreal Basement CD1 comp. With this track, Barbara patches together sampled hand drum rhythms that operate at different frequencies to yield some wild and complex melodies. And this track specifically ends up making for a hard-to-find and bouncy clinic that puts her tribal techno expertise on full display. She's so good at what she does, man. If you ever want a stellar, sweaty-workout tribal techno mix, her Relentless Beats Vol. 1 release from 2001 on Moonshine Music is tremendous. Once wrote about one of her very own songs that she used on that mix too.
A *much* better offering from Distr!ck of Montreal here. Still not very good, though.
No highlights.

okay, so being a walking highlight of the 80’s yourself, with those old rock songs i remember the blue rabbit playing and the insane collection of cabinets your arcade had, i have to know:
what kinda music do you listen to? i don’t wanna assume too much a girl of your southern twang is into country but i won’t judge a book by its cover. also i’d love to know your fav films too! you guys kinda had a good idea to start those weird and totally bogus ghost rumors around the boom of the slasher genre, do you like horror movies? or maybe a sucker for lovey stuff?
"Oh naw, don't feel bad for assumin'! Country music's nice an' all, but I ain't gonna lie, I'm not the biggest fan. There's some nifty lil' tunes out there, but really I prefer the techno music of the time, maybe some Europe too. Some'a the newer stuff's got a nice tune to it, even some'a the songs based off'a the rumors!"
Toy Chica looks elated to be able to share her interests and passions; it's clear she doesn't often get a chance to chat with new people like this.
"I dunno if this'll raise hairs on the back'a anyone's heads, but those ol' Terminator movies always seemed real cool to me! Was always rootin' for the good guys, though I loved it when the robots went an' gave em a scare! Sci-fi's a real neat genre, but I also just like nifty lil' slice-of-life flicks."

10,000 gecs - 100 gecs
Tumblr media
10,000 gecs isn’t a perfect album, but it may be the ideal summer record.
That may be a strange declarative statement to start on, after all I’m reviewing the newest batch of tunes by snickering Hyperpop hooligans Lauren Les and Dylan Brady, who seem to not care at all what you think about them (or care deeply that you don’t think that they care what you think of them).
But this album feels like Summer, or it at least sounds sunny. For as manic and colorful as hyperpop music has sounded for its first few years of existence, sonically a hyperpop album has never sounded this sunny.  Compare this with Brakence’s moody and self obsessed Hypochondriac last year, which seems to brilliantly evoke Autumn, or WhoKilledXIX’s misanthropic and boastful 19.  Even Food House’s debut, as much as I love love LOVE the production on that album, sounds like colorful and happy music you’d blast at in indoor rave in a cold, dystopian hellscape. The same way 90s techno was an escape for the queer clubbing scene from the masses but applied in a post Covid, terminally online world, Food House captures the storm before the calm.
The new attitude on 100 gecs latest release is just screaming “we don’t care.” The infusions of ska, hip hop, nu metal and bedroom pop are balmy and refreshing, and never feel pigeonholed by the hyperpop genre label floating over the duo’s head(s) since 2019.
In fact, this album branches far away from hyperpop at times.  I Got My Tooth Removed is a straight up ska song, no punches pulled and no apologies made.  The humor comes from the song itself, a funny melodramatic ballad about losing a tooth like a lover with all emotion snapped out of it under the weight of a heavy handed, ska laden chorus.
The Most Wanted Person in the United States is another hilarious song, Laura Les doing her best Kreayshawn impression with a bright and choppy rap verse.  The instrumental uses a glut of sound effects in a manner reminiscent of Aphex Twin’s Logan Rock Witch, utilizing a walky talky sound and a sample from “Insane in the Membrane” in lieu of the sounds of toys.  But also what might be the sounds of toys. It’s pretty crazy.
The punches don’t stop coming for the fans of the original hyperpop “gecs,” as 757 might be one of the bands punchiest songs to date. I heard a leak of this song from concert footage, and got to see the band play this song at Outside Lands last year, but to my surprise the vocals sound even wetter and more reverb boosted on the album.  This might be one of my few nitpicks, but some of the EQ-ing choices make the vocals sound washed out (even for 100 gec standards) and contrasts with cleaner vocals at various points in the album. However, this doesn’t ruin what is, at the core, one of my favorite 100 gecs tracks from a song and lyric writing standpoint.
The only song I didn’t really fall head over heels for was Billy Knows Jamie, which doesn’t seem to know how to get out of first gear.  The loud breakdown truncating the song at the end is interesting, but doesn’t seem to build off of anything preceding it and makes the song feel incomplete and a bit underdeveloped.  As a whole the song is still a cool Limp Bizkit pastiche, just doesn’t meet the high bar the group has set for themselves.
Overall, if your looking to get into 100 gecs without the proper background this album is a great introduction. In fact it might be a better introduction than their last studio record, as there’s no obvious filler like I Need Help Immediately or gecgecgec to pad out the runtime.  This album is a lean 27 minutes to be blasted by the brave, fun loving and adventurous.  All killer, no filler.
Highlights:  Dumbest Girl Alive, 757, Hollywood Baby, Most Wanted Person in the United States, I Got My Tooth Removed
✮ ✮ ✮ ½ (Excellent)

iANO - Nothing Special Court
(Hypnagogic Pop, Experimental Rock, Ambient)
A massive, hour-and-a-half-long expedition through the various realms of Chris McCracken's lofi electronica, Nothing Special Court provides the most enjoyable and rounded group of tracks in this vein for him yet. By injecting hazy ambient atmospheres into these songs rather than the other way around, the overwhelming atmospheres of his bitcrushed pop tunes are placated by genuinely enchanting songcraft.
☆☆☆☆
It's hard to talk about Chris McCracken's music without at least mentioning his importance as a progenitor of heXD and noisy, bitcrushed-to-hell electronica over the past few years: his 2021 debut Dispossession still stands as one of the former genre's strongest works, and even when it came to this April's neon hi-fi marvel Life Cycles, songs like Storm Fabric and Bliss brought just enough grit and fuzziness to things to ensure the album never became too one-dimensional in its progressive electronic experiments. What did throw me off, though, was this summer's There's No River, where McCracken embraced a gloomier aesthetic that drowned in noisy ambiance and anxious post-punk, an interesting change of pace but with the sacrifice of all the compositional richness his music thrived on - it felt like There's No River was being starved of the depth and expressiveness of McCracken's other projects by way of its monochromatic presentation. So, when a surprise hour-and-a-half long second helping of similarly lo-fi tunes landed Friday morning last week, I wasn't all too sure what to expect: McCracken's shown time and time again his incredible attention to detail and ability to add tons of color to electronica's coldest sides, but meshing it with the avant-pop side of his discography not too long ago brought about quite mixed results. Thankfully, Nothing Special Court completely reimagines how McCracken's hypnagogic pop songs come to life, the album's lengthy runtime and massive tracklist showing off every side of his sound in thrillingly innovative ways. Smothered in high pass, reverb and compression, songs like Nothing and Special speak the language of dance music but distort it until it's near unintelligible, bright synth melodies and chunky drum programming that would normally be fit for a club turned into a lightning spell for the dead of night, while the shoegaze crawl of The Bones and This Will Happen adds even more fuzz to My Bloody Valentine-indebted noise pop. The challenge of There's No River was McCracken trying to fit these heavy post-punk tunes into thin and wispy ambient atmosphere, but by injecting hazy ambient atmospheres into these songs rather than the other way around, the overwhelming atmospheres of his bitcrushed pop tunes are placated by genuinely enchanting songcraft, the folksy lean of Passing Cards juxtaposed by a chintzy toy piano and Keeper's mall-commercial new wave genuinely sounding like it's being shot right out of an old CRT despite its energetic instrumentation. Rather than feeling stiff and awkward trying to mix chilly ambiance with chilly instrumentals, McCracken picks some of the sunniest genres out there - trance, pop, country, dream pop - and finds ways for swarms of noise and distortion to blanket them and create his desired worlds. And if the hour thirty runtime puts you off for any reason, don't go into Nothing Special Court expecting the same thing twice - McCracken's never been one to stick his music in a box, and that's especially so here. He hits on everything from doo-wop (First Encounter) to twangy Americana (Joseph) to groovy ambient techno (Nothing), influences from Naked Flames and James Ferraro to Tom Waits and Alex G dotted all across the album's 33 tracks. Though its gigantic tracklist and long runtime might lend itself to background listening, fully submitting yourself to all of Nothing Special Court's whiplashing 360s and random detours brings about a listening experience like no other this year: it's strange, jumping from The Expanse, Pt. 1's cinematic balladry to the ditzy waltz of Faces Drawn, but it all works in tandem because of the single world McCracken conjures them all in, like flipping through channels on a TV connected to a half-broken antennae. Cryptic and dense as Nothing Special Court is, there's a magic and wonder to how McCracken fits everything together and makes it feel like one solid block of avant-pop surreality, able to take the strangest bits of his sound and stick them all together beautifully. I'll probably always be partial to the cleaner, cooler sound of Life Cycles, but Nothing Special Court is the most interesting and compelling take on lo-fi electronica McCracken's released yet, and making an hour and a half of it stand tall all the way through is an undeniable accomplishment. As he jumps from idea to idea with abandon, he never treats any one song with less love than the ones surrounding it, sporadic in his style and song structures but never changing the core of what makes his music so enthusiastic and earnest no matter where he's taking it. It's a lot to digest, but Nothing Special Court is as engaging and passionate as any of McCracken's more concise releases: take your time with it, and everything unfolds beautifully.

What Techno is like when you’re trying to be quite.
All @lillianastuff fault; just sayin.
Warnings: NSFW, 18+
Alpha!Techno
“I won’t scream next time then.” You scoff moving away from your Alpha with a pout at his teasing at how loud you were earlier, it’s not your fault he’s so big.
His scent drifts after you, “Oh pup, as if you could be quiet.” He coos, his arms wrapping around you before guiding you back to the sofa. The heat from the fireplace in front of you soothing both of you.
“I could.” You sigh letting your head rest against his shoulder, the pout still on your lips. Technos becoming feral with the need to kiss it off. Your man grins ripping open his shirt with brute strength before you can gasp his hands are all over you sliding down to your cunt.
“Mm still clenching.” He hums deep and gravely into your ear, that along with his finger toying with your hole has you moaning too loud for barely being touched.
Before worry and insecurities can seep in, Techno grazes his canines over your mark leaving you pliant for him with an Alpha leaving you in the form of a whimper, “That’s it omega, just how I like you.” He purrs.
Gladiator!Techno
You bite your lip trying to stop yourself from screaming, you knew your father was home today and was trying desperately not to make noise regardless of the fact that he was all the way on the other side of the palace. Techno noticed instantly frowning and stilling inside you, “what is it princessa?” His thick fingers brushing some hair away from your face, a beautiful frown painted on his.
“Fathers here today.” You say worry in your voice, but he simply rolls his eyes.
“Sweet thing your screams are far too loud for you to even worry about it.” He laughs knowing damn well your father has heard the both of you, the talk he gave Techno a few weeks ago flashing in his mind. He was yet to tell you.
“I won’t scream then.” You huff completely missing the grin that grows on your gladiator’s face. When you notice it you know you fucked up.
“Oh princessa.” He looks as he he’d just been given his favourite axe, “let’s see how long that lasts.” His hand tangles in your hair gripping gently as he pulls all the way out before slamming back in, and you sob.
Geralt!Techno
“God the way you killed that bruxa.” Techno groans, his favourite tune playing loudly in his ears as your squeal and scream, back arching with each thrust.
“Oi keep it down in there!” A fist slams against the door.
Still thrusting, Techno shoots a ‘fuck off’ in retaliation before picking up speed again only now noticing you were quiet, or at least trying to be. A frown etched on his face as your melodic moans stopped flowing in the space around him.
“If you’re-“ you cut him off.
“My screams will disturb others so I won’t-“ He gives you the same curtesy with a shake of his head, his white hair moving with him as you stare into his golden eyes.
“You will do no such thing little vixen, I want to hear you and I’m fucking going to.” He grunts pulling himself out, flipping your body over with ease before he’s back inside you deeper in this position so much so you can’t help it and let the screams out you were so desperately trying to keep in.
Techno makes sure you can’t deafen them by pressing your face into the pillow by pulling your back against his chest letting you feel every single inch of him just as he is you.
Biker!Techno
“No I promised Phil I wouldn’t scre-“
Your whine is cut off by a loud whimper, your biker sliding into your sopping cunt in one of the back rooms of the Hangout. All other bikers in town were always here, Phil ran this place along with your biker boyfriend.
Every time Techno fucked you, it was helpless. You screamed and moaned underneath this perfect gruff man who took you apart every single time. Phil had complained about the noise last time it had happened and you were trying your hardest to keep it low this time.
“Come on Tesoro I need’a hear you.” Your man pouts, his brow furrowing as he places a soft kiss to the corner of your mouth a shear contrast to how hard he was raming into you.
“But-“ the hand slipping around your throat stops your retort.
“No but Tesoro, fuck everyone else and scream for me.”
CEO!Techno
“YesYesYes oh don’t stop!” He shakes his head because fuck no is he going to. You’re in his expensive new car, christening it. You know you’re being so loud right now but with the way Techno is hitting that spot inside you, you don’t care
Until of course a member of staff walks into the garage, you cover your mouth with you hand immediately “Techno there’s- oh god!” You try your hardest to stop yourself from being loud, shoving your face into his neck.
“I don’t care.” He grunts landing a smack against your ass, even waving to the woman who walks passed trying not to look at the two of you wrapped in a such a compromising position.
“Techno!” An angry look grows on his face at the muffled sound of his name, he wants to hear it the way it’s supposed to sound. He pulls your neck back letting your head fall back and your back arch he knows your close and wants to hear it.
“There you go Toots.”
SugarDaddy!Techno
“Babygirl what are you doing?” His pointed question has you stilling, you know exactly what he’s talking about but you look up at him with innocent eyes and ask him what he means.
“How dare you try and hide your moans from me.” He scolds with a harsh tone that you know he’s trying really hard to keep in his voice. “This is about the other day isn’t it?” He asks casually as if he’s not sheathed inside your pussy right now.
“Techno are you seriously talking about this right now!” You giggle landing a tap on his strong shoulder. The memories of Techno’s friends teasing you for being so loud when Techno fucked you on their yacht, gone.
“Don’t worry pretty girl, I’ll make it so you can’t.” He smiles removing himself from you and heading to your closet before coming back with a vibrator that honestly reminded you of a twizzler. Your beloved sugar daddy slipped it inside your clenching cunt, pressing the on button on the remote. You’re a moaning and whimpering mess even before he slips back inside you groaning at your tightening pussy.
“Just like that.” He growls as you scream carelessly cumming all over his cock.

Sweet Dreams (Monster AU!Dream x abandoned!child!GN!Reader)
Mentions of cutting and blood. If this triggers or bothers you, please feel free to ignore this story!
Dream was confused, to say the least, when Phil pulled him aside and gave him a rescue case for a child. According to Phil, the kid was an awful lot like Dream, to the point where they had actually managed to get a hit on Technoblade, with a well thrown book to the boar monster's face. It did make the dream demon laugh, taking the time to track his two best friends down to tell them about the kid. George, a hallucination causing mushroom monster, told the dream demon to go for it and get the kid. Sapnap, a demon, however told Dream to hand the case over to the sheep like woman Dream called a mother. Sapnap was quick to change his tune after seeing the kid's file and encouraged his friend to get the child. The kid was just like him, ignored and bullied, told that were wrong about everything.
Dream's mind flew off with questions. Would he be a good dad? Should he even try to get the kid? What is he supposed to do if he can't get the kid to come with him? How do you even take care of a kid? Would they even like him? Dream was quick to go to his mother and voice his concerns. Thankfully, Puffy was quite understanding and explained everything to the best of her ability.
The dream demon ducked to avoid a flailing Tommy as he walked, rereading the kid's file. The file showing that the parents didn't really care for the 8 year old child, often leaving them alone for months on end. Sometimes humans really shouldn't have kids of they couldn't do even the bare basics of being a parent. The barely humanoid monster sat the file on the table near his station before fixing his mask. The inky black clawed hands stood out against his skin, as did the odd glowing, floating neon halos around his head. They reminded him of glowsticks sometimes. His build was mostly human, save for the random splotches of black and glowing neon green freckles here and there, the claws, the towering height and odd eyes that would glow in the dark like a nightlight.
His claws danced across the program that sent monsters into the human realm, an action he had done for years. He wasn't fazed by the harsh roar of the machine as it located the child. Dream took one last second to pull his hood over his head before stepping into the realm.
The room was like any other kid's room, granted there wasn't as many toys as most kids. Dream step cautiously through the room to the child's bed. He wanted to see the kid that got a hit on Techno up close. However he didn't get too close when the 8 year old sat up in their bed, groggily rubbing their eyes. "Why do you guys keep coming here?" Dream chuckled slightly. "Cause you're odd. Like us." The kid froze for a split second before looking at the dream demon through their fingers. Dream smirked behind his mask before lifting his hand up to wave at the kid. "Hello." "What's that thing around your head?" Blunt much, kid? "These? No clue." A clawed hand hooked around a glowing green halo. "I've had them for ages." "What are you supposed to be?" Dream shrugged before letting his abilities take over, making him float. "Most people say I'm a dream demon, some say I'm hallucination. All in what you wanna call it." He said, casually laying in the air like it's something he does all the time. "You got a name kid?" "Y/n, who are you?" "Call me Dream, shortstack." A small thump filled the room as Dream looked down. "Did you just throw a ball at me?" "Maybe."
Dream spent a good bit of time talking to the kid, still debating on whether or not he should take the kid with him. If he had to guess the time, judging by the navy and purples that danced across the sky, his time in the human world would be coming to an end soon. He looked back over at Y/n, who was attempting to move through the air like Dream. "Try relaxing, not swimming." They nodded, before floating over to the male. "So when's your parents coming back?" He asked, tossing the rubber ball the kid had thrown at him, against the ceiling. The kid shrugged. Dream turn over to where he was laying on his stomach on the bed. "So they ditch you like this all the time?" "Pretty much." Dream shook his head. "How about you come home with me? You can help me annoy my friends." "Why?" "Well, you'd be apart of an actual family." The kid nodded. Dream sat up before moving the kid to land on the bed. "You got any bandaids?" Y/n nodded and got off the bed.
Little feet padded away from the room as Dream had a few split moments to question what the hell he was doing. Y/n walked back into the room and climbed onto their bed. They held out bandaids to the demon, who took them and sat them aside. "I'm gonna have to cut your hand, but it'll be for a split second. We have to do a blood pact, that way you don't get snatched up by someone else in the monster realm." Y/n nodded. Dream took their hand and let his claw nick them. He then cut his own hand and pressed it to the cut. After putting the bandaids on, Dream got off the bed. "Come on, get on." Dream said, keeping his back to them. He felt the kid's weight in his back before reaching back and catching his child's leg and pulling them up. Tiny arms wrapped around his neck as he shifted them on his back. Dream made his way to the closet, using his foot to open the door.
When he stepped back into the monster realm, he was immediately greeted by his two best friends, his mother, and his giant of a brother. He felt Y/n grip tighten on his hoodie. "Hey." "Let me see my grand baby!" "Puffy, back up." Dream was thankful for his younger brother's immediate response. However, it didn't stop his two best friends who were quick to go to him and poke their friend's new child. Dream casually adjusted his grip on Y/n before kicking at Sapnap. Just enough to get the pyromaniac to back up. He heard George yell, his attention snapping to the hallucinogenic mushroom like monster. The dream demon was soon wheezing as he had noticed his new kid had casually slapped George, making it where Dream didn't even notice the shift in their weight. "That's my kid!"
