I thoroughly enjoyed Izumi Suzuki’s irrelavent sci-fi cyberpunk shorts. Although a few of them were a little bland, the concept as a whole was incredibly fun. Suzuki plays on traditional sexuality, often mixing the roles and creating relationships that feel unbalanced compared to other science-fiction pieces. It’s also the unique selling-point of Terminal Boredom – a penchant for the unexpected. . The first English-language publication of the work of Izumi Suzuki, a legend of Japanese science fiction and a countercultural icon. . Izumi Suzuki was born in 1949. After dropping out of high school, she worked in a factory before finding success and infamy as a model and actress. Her acting credits include both pink films and classics of 1970s Japanese cinema. When the father of her children, jazz musician Kaoru Abe, died of an overdose, Suzuki’s creative output went into hyperdrive, and she began producing irreverent and punky short fiction, novels and essays. . You can find the full review in my bio. Sick Thoughts have released a ridiculous amount of records in the last year and now they're back (and by "they" I mean "he") with the ultimate teenage anthem "I Got Hands". This is the Sick Thoughts you never thought you'd hear. From the single on Hidden Volume out June 2014.

Izumi Suzuki was born in 1949. After dropping out of high school, she worked in a factory before finding success and infamy as a model and actress. Her acting credits include both pink films and classics of 1970s Japanese cinema. When the father of her children, jazz musician Kaoru Abe, died of an overdose, Suzuki’s creative output went into hyperdrive, and she began producing the irreverent and punky short fiction, novels and essays. She took her own life in 1986, leaving behind a decade’s worth of ground-breaking and influential writing. . @versobooks has gathered up Suzuki’s short sci-fi stories into this neat little collection, spanning just over 200 pages. With a front cover by the legendary Japanese photographer Nobuyoshi Araki (more of his work posted soon), this book looks truly stunning. Topics raised in the book deal with both Gender issues and an over-attachment on technology; transgressive subjects for the 70’s indeed. . Set for release on April 20th, this is a book that’s sure to stir the hearts and minds of Science-fiction lovers the world over. Amazingly, it’s taken all this time for her work to be translated into English. At the time of posting, I’m already three-quarters of the way through, and the majority of the stories have been highly engaging, raising many critical points along the way - full review to follow soon. . . . #IzumiSuzuki #TerminalBoredom #Verso #Japanese #TranslatedFiction # NobuyoshiAraki #bookstagram #bookreview #bookish #books #booklover #bookworm #womenintranslation #readtheworld #fictionintranslation #translatedbooks #readersofig #translatedlit #bookreviewers #translated #bookaesthetics #bookcover #bookrecommendation #bookstagramuk #ScienceFiction #scifi #cyberpunk #sciencefictionbooks #scifiworld #futurism #dystopia https://www.instagram.com/p/CMvA_h0rgP_/?igshid=1nb6fro1469ai
