Crimes of the Heart (1986). Three southern sisters try to come to grips with the meaning of their mother's suicide.
Any movie starring Jessica Lange, Sissy Spacek and Diane Keaton as sisters is automatically a 10/10 in my heart! Unfortunately, it's otherwise a bit of a mess. It feels overly convoluted, and while it's focus on the way grief can shape a life is a compelling throughline, it's not as sharply felt as I wish it was in this. 6/10.

TENDER MERCIES (1983)
Grade: C
The story and plot wasn't that special at all, the characters are not interesting enough for such a thin plot. The good acting keeps it watchable.

Cold Case is by far my favorite procedural… this show had THREE people from Breaking Bad who got perp walked at the end of their respective episodes: Jesse’s mom, Mike, and Todd. Also the music is 💯

📽️ The Man in the Moon (1991)
The description of this movie in no way prepares you for the heartbreak within. Reese Witherspoon did a great job as Dani (it seems she was a better actor as a child than I believe she is as an adult), and it was very easy to be immersed in this story. It was somewhat predictable, as most chick flicks are, except for one major part that I did not see coming until it was happening. This definitely isn’t a movie you want to watch for a pick-me-up; it’s a movie for when you want to cry. It’s not all sad, though. It’s also not super action-packed; it’s kind of a slow movie. All in all, it’s pretty good.
Sex/nudity: 3/10 (skinny dipping with brief butt shots, kissing, one sex scene)
Language: 2/10 (some mild profanity)
Violence: 3/10 (girl gets beat with a belt, spoilers)
Overall rating: 7/10

Tender Mercies (1983). A broken-down, middle-aged country singer gets a new wife, reaches out to his long-lost daughter, and tries to put his troubled life back together.
In its quietest moments, this movie about a newly sober country and western singer trying to hold onto his new family and new stability feels like a classic of the subgenre. Like it should be nestled on a shelf between movies like Nashville, Coal Miner's Daughter and Walk the Line - a staple of country singer cinema canon. Unfortunately, it's hindered by what feels like underdrawn relationships, particularly with his daughter, which feels almost like some clipped scenes out of a broader story in a way that doesn't really work. Disappointing, because the tone and the heft to the moments that do work are pretty special. 7/10.
