Choices Secret Pal December 2024, edits by me
Here's my creation for the Choices Secret Pal event by @choicesfandomappreciation!
For @choiceswithmika, I've made edits of your pairings at a winter ball, based on the details you gave me! Skylar x Dante (TDG), Skylar x Koda (TeFe), and of course Mikaylyn x Zig (TFS)! Of course a lot of the guidance was open-ended, so I had some fun experimenting with outfits I thought might suit them hehe. Did also try to have each couple have outfit match in one way or another

This was definitely fun to make and I loved learning about your MCs! Thank you so much for this opportunity <3 <3 <3

Hello! Update from me!
In order to not get burnt out on drawing, I like to work on whatever I feel like each day. However, I REALLY want to work on part 2 of the Earthspark comic, BUT it has alot of moving parts and I want to do it right the first time.
So while yes I'm working on it lowkey in the background, there shall be more fun things/non-Piston things in the meantime. Example: I got something going live tomorrow stay tuned!
I'm going to LA TFCon in March and my outfit isn't done yet so I have to work on that as well! It was going to be more elaborate, but, Piston. (If you see me say hello! I'll post what my bag looks like and also I'll have Piston with me)
Also I would like to be emotionally vulnerable for a moment, I never thought people would like Piston so much and it makes me tear up a little bit. No really! Thank you so much, I genuinely mean it! The first time I drew Piston I didn't like it at all and was going to quit but then I drew this on their reference sheet and it changed everything:
Tumblr media
I hadn't drawn in years and always wanted to and this little bug got rid of my artist block. So I pursue! Yet, sometimes, I get nervous bc I have some serious not fun story related things planned with them and I don't want tomatoes thrown at my head. Plain to say, no matter what continuation, The Last Mile Marker, Earthspark or TF One, my goofy lamb gets hit with a hammer and has to recover from it, somehow. Piston is my pride and joy and I love them with all my heart, they too shall pursue to stay goofy!
To see such a kind and welcoming embrace from the Transformers community makes me so happy! I love each and every one of you thank you for being so nice!
Here is a teaser of the first page of part 2. I stretched out the canvas to fit one of the sketches. Yes I misspelled peace! Right now I'm working with a friend to figure out the perspective on the last page, safe to say, images that go hard I'm cooking i love colors etc etc. I don't know when it will be done, but it will be!

The Junior did Zig stans such a disservice by making us choose between the long hair OR the leather jacket. I feel sick just thinking about it.

FAM!!! 🙇🏽‍♀️🙇🏽‍♀️ Please teach me the art of drawing usopp, IM BEGGING!! Whenever I try to draw him he looks like someone else I think it's the eyes 😭😭 LOOK!
Tumblr media
LIKE WHO TF IS THIS 😭😭 [Ignore the seven different shades of green, pls 👉🏽👈🏽]
deadass I think this looks like usopp maybe take a step back focus on smth else and come back to it IF YOURE NEW TO DRAWING HIM DW YOU’LL GET USED TO IT 💯💯💯 what I recommend me personally is drawing him the most cartoony you can, play around with sizes and flexibility, cartoony, yknow, that’s how I managed
keep note of your favorite usopp artists and determine the route you wanna go in, cartoony, realistic, 2000s style, play around with facial expressions . draw him from memory and then do a side by side ref of your favorite image of him
i think the eyes look good but it depends what you want him to look like , might be throwing you off that usopp has small pupils, try and see how he looks like w/ that
I’m no usopp expert I literally just draw an oval, draw a panicked expression, and slap a nose on it BUUTTTTT this is just some stuff that helped me get into a rhythm/style (I would recommend Pinterest but the amount of borderline racist and whitewashed art and just weird shit in general ☹️☹️☹️☹️ STILL THERES STILL GOOD ART just that most of the good art is already from tumblr 😦)
what I think is great about usopp design is that it lets you have fun he’s a really shape-y character I can make his curls just bumps or I can make it sharp and zig saggy, idk if that make sense😭😭
HOPE THIS HELPED SOMEHOW ‼️ and if it helps yknow to not get discouraged heres some old art from a year ago when I barely got into one piece and was trying to figure out how to draw this man (and anatomy bc WTFF is THAT💀), DO NOT GIVE UP ‼️‼️💯💯💯🙏

He nodded slowly in response, it did make sense that they were worried about her, considering she said they cared about her. He would worry too if he heard that someone like Marnie had moved as quickly as he and Plumeria had, but there was a magic and magnetism there that he just could not explain.
“‘S nice that they worry. Means they care about’cha.. why’s Sunny concerned though? She should know I’d never hurt’cha..”
He watched her as she got up and headed to the kitchen, and he yawned wide as he got up from the bed and headed to get some clothes to wear for the day.
When he finally came out, he chuckled at the sight of the sleeping Pokémon, before suddenly being attacked from behind by Ziggy who nuzzled and licked him with a happy chirp.
“Hey Zigs. Gotta keep it down mate. Team’s still asleep.”
Ziggy looked at them and then attacked his trainer with affection again. This made him laugh, but he did his best to keep it as quiet as possible, not wanting to wake the others, even if Ziggy didn’t seem to mind that result.
Tumblr media
🎸 from Here
@toxic-spike-plumeria
The next morning came around much faster than he even thought possible, but he didn’t realize he had even fallen asleep. It was supposed to be a day to practice some more before the concert, but laziness had won out so far, and he remained contentedly under the covers asleep.
Eventually he did wake up, but made zero effort to move from his comfortable location, instead watching Plumeria sleep for a while before scrolling on his phone for a while, avoiding any real responsibilities a while longer. Technically there was nothing wrong with this choice since he could choose to rehearse whenever he wanted to.
Of course a song idea struck him suddenly, and he rolled onto his back and began typing away furiously as the lyrics just kind of rolled out of his brain.

I realise I haven't written about it much on this blog, but my childhood blankie is becoming threadbare with use, and I decided that I will repair it by sandwiching it between two layers of patchwork fabric.
My blankie is filled with a fluffy polyester filling, and not a dense batting that I associate with "quilts". I really love this fluffy, squishy stuffing, and want my mended blankie to retain this quality. I've learned that I should have lots of space between my quilting (the stitching that goes through all layers of the blanket, holding the sandwich together), or possibly tie the quilt instead. I also like the idea of "machine tying" with some small areas of dense zig-zag stitches (tacking).
As for the patchwork...
I decided to do a scrappy quilt. I collected together a bunch of cotton fabrics I already owned, that fit a colour palette and theme (autumn, especially pumpkins and leaves, cute animals, especially cats, botanicals, solids, patterns, and woven patterns):

...I may also have purchased more fabrics, too!
After doing some practice patchwork with Lil Blankie, I found I really enjoyed making 9-patches and quartering them ("disappearing 9-patch"):

For Big Blankie, 9-patches are made of nine 5-inch squares (seam allowance of 1/4 inch). When quartered, this yields four 7-inch squares. Some of the 5-inch squares are made from scraps.
I'll also include 7-inch squares of both solid fabric, and squares made of scraps. This will help me use up remnants, especially as I get close to finishing all my quilt squares.
Here's a peek from December 2024, at some of the 9-patches:

While I can't name every single fabric used, these include:
Fableism Sprout Wovens (cotton solid with textured Xs woven in)
Fableism Everyday Chambray, including Nocturne (52% cotton / 48% bamboo viscose chambray)
various Japanese yarn-dyed wovens
various textured wovens by Diamond Textiles
Art Gallery Fabrics "Pure" (solid colours)
various quilting cotton prints by Northcott, Figo, Art Gallery Fabrics, Cotton+Steel, ...
When I first started making 9-patches, I was pretty haphazard about them. But as I continued, I tried to make them more symmetric, and to optimise the placement of the very soft and draping fabrics (Everyday Chambray) so the 5" square wouldn't be cut during the quartering. This both maximises the continuous area of soft fabric, and maybe reduces fraying due to cutting.
Quilt math!
So, with Lil Blankie, I learned that I need to slow tf down when doing "quilt math".
Big Blankie is approximately 80"x80" (actually a little smaller, and rectangular; but I'm rounding up now, so I can trim excess later).
Using 7" squares (which includes a 1/4" seam allowance), this means I need 13 pieces per column, and 13 per row. This will yield an 85" square of patchwork fabric, which I can trim down to 80".
(Alternatively, I could sew 12x12 and then add a border. But that feels less forgiving than simply trimming excess?)
I want to use patchwork fabric for both the front and back of the blanket (not using a backing). So I need 13 x 13 x 2 = 338 squares of 7".
If about half of my 7" squares are made from Disappearing 9-Patch, that means I need about 42 Dissapearing 9-Patches (yields 168 blocks; I still need another 170 to come from somewhere else). Which means 378 pieces of 5" squares to make those 9-patches. O
Ok, I think I confused myself, so I'm gonna summarise. I need:
42 blocks of 9-Patch (yields 168 squares of 7" when quartered)
170 pieces of 7" squares, from some other method (solid or scrappy patchwork)
I'm about halfway to my goal 42 blocks of 9-patch, and have made some number of 7" squares as well.
Phew!
