Your voice falters, recognition and maybe even something similar to embarrassment flits across your face, and a split second later, you go back to smiling like nothing’s wrong. Like the two of you haven’t spent the better half of this month actively avoiding each other at all costs, even though the sprawling acres of the University of Tokyo suddenly feels too small. The entirety of Japan has felt too small ever since it became his mission to never cross paths with you ever again.

This mission of his started just a little over two weeks ago, on the very same day you decide to use his heart as your own punching bag. The worst part of it all, though, is the fact that he doesn’t even hold any type of contempt for you. It’s a cruel sort of joke; sometimes, Atsumu Miya feels like everything bad that happens to him is just some sort of sick punchline in a sitcom instead of real life.

Usually, when girlfriends find out their high school sweetheart is going to be a wildly successful (and rich) professional athlete, they’ll do anything in their power to hang onto him.

You decided to snip the invisible string tying the two of you together, and you did it so effortlessly, so quickly, that Atsumu had to make sure that he hadn’t been imagining the last four years of your relationship.

He’s got his hands shoved in his pockets, and he’s torn between staring at you like a total creep or looking at everything in the campus bookstore but you. He settles for the former, scared that this will be his last opportunity to really look at you.

Neither of you is saying anything. It’s a Saturday and so no one else is even in the bookstore this morning, and Atsumu wants to say something, anything, but he’s never been that great at carefully picking his words, and he’s scared out of his mind that he’ll say something stupid and prove once and for all that you had been right to break up with him. Better yet, he wants you to say something. He wants you to give him a better explanation instead of the bullshit you told him in his apartment.

We just want different things.

What does that even mean? He thinks he would have shouted out that question, if only your little break up speech hadn’t caught him so off guard. Different things? The two of you wanted different things? Sure, Atsumu likes to sleep in a freezing cold apartment, and you need the room to actually be at a reasonable temperature. And maybe Atsumu has a penchant for overly fried, greasy foods when all you want (and deserve) is a fancy dinner. Maybe Atsumu wants to be at a sports store instead of browsing aisle after aisle in Sephora, but he doubts these different wants have accumulated so much that you felt you had no choice but to break his heart.

“Hey, Miya.” You say it softly, dropping the perky customer service voice you greeted him with before you turned around and realized who he was. And he flinches. He fucking visibly cringes at the way you speak to him, walking on eggshells and going back to formalities like he’s barely above a stranger to you.

Miya.

(Did you know that he wanted to make that your last name?

Do you know that he still does, even now?)

“Hey,” he replies back, curling his fingers into fists inside his pocket. He thinks his voice comes out all scratchy, like how it always sounds when you don’t use your voice nearly enough. He clears his throat awkwardly. Everything feels awkward; everything feels wrong. He says “hey”, but what he really means to say is please don’t call me Miya; you know the color of my toothbrush, you don’t have to call me Miya.

“Were you looking for something?”

You.

Subconsciously, Atsumu finds himself seeking you out. He walks by another girl on campus and almost breaks his neck with the speed he turns around to catch a whiff of the perfume wafting from her body because he swears it’s the same fragrance you favor. He walks by the building that houses all the classrooms for your specific major, even though it’s located on the opposite side of his own classes because he secretly hopes against all hope that he’ll run into you, and you’ll see him and fall in love with him again. He goes to the same restaurants the two of you frequently ate at together, and he orders your usual because you can never finish your entire meal and always have him finish off the leftovers for you (and the food is always good, but somehow it doesn’t taste the same when your utensils haven’t touched it first). And he doesn’t even need to be here, doesn’t even care enough about his stupid class to go out of his way to buy the study guide, but he knows you’ve started picking up the weekend shifts at the campus bookstore, and suddenly, he cares enough about passing to get the damn study guide.

He shrugs. “Just some stupid workbook to study for an upcoming exam, but it’s not that serious.”

“Oh. Is Dr. Furata giving you a hard time again?”

“How do you do that?” Atsumu blurts out, wanting to kick himself for giving too much of himself away. You already own every centimeter of his heart and maybe his soul. You don’t need anything else from him; he’s almost certain there’s nothing left for him to give you, but he can’t help but impulsively ask the damn question that’s been running through his mind ever since you left him behind.

Did you know that when you’re confused, your brows furrow together, and you get this adorable, endearing crinkle in between them? Do you know that he still finds that same expression as cute as he did when you still called yourself his girlfriend?

“What are you talking about?”

How can you just stand there and act like you never crushed his heart? How do you wake up in the morning and not feel like your life is missing something important, like you’ll never feel whole again? How can you keep him wrapped around your finger, and then have the audacity to not even realize it? How did you let him go so quickly?

Practicing caution, he swallows hard before clarifying, “How do you know everything?” Because if you can act like he’s just a polite acquaintance, like he’s nothing more than another fellow classmate, he can try to play pretend too. He can act like there’s not enough history between the two of you to fill up every damn textbook in this stupid store. “Yeah, Dr. Furata’s been on everyone’s ass. Somethin’ about midterm grades being worth a quarter of our overall grade.”

“Believe me, you’re not the first victim of Dr. Furata’s to come wandering in the store. I think I have a few more of the workbooks he suggested in stock. Let me go check.”

It’s instinct at this point for Atsumu to just follow you. If he uses his imagination, it’s almost like he’s back to browsing in a makeup store, walking aimlessly in every aisle, following you loyally because he’s happy to have you lead the way and he doesn’t care where he ends up, so long as you’re there with him.

But this isn’t an afternoon date with you. This is him following a bookstore employee. After you find that study guide, which is really nothing more than his flimsy excuse for seeking you out, you’re going to ask him “card or cash?”, ring him up at the register, and he’s going to walk out that door and have to act like he’s still not in love with you. All the while, you’re doing fine. You’re fine right now, and you’re going to be fine when he leaves, and you’re probably going to be fine, five years down the line, when you’re happy with someone else and Atsumu is alone because in this little hypothetical, he still hasn’t gotten over you.

He is trailing behind you in this bookstore, and your back is facing him, and he’s panicking because he doesn’t think he’s capable of not loving you.

Just two weeks ago, you knew him better than anyone else in the world, maybe even better than Osamu, perhaps even better than he knows himself. Now, you just give him a polite smile as you grab the small stool to reach the books located at the very top of the shelf.

“God, I hate the way we organize everything in the store.” You say, lightheartedly complaining. He knows you do. He knows because he’s known you for nearly a decade. The two of you have grown up together. You made this same complaint sprawled out on the couch in his apartment.

When he doesn’t reply, you look down to see if something’s the matter, only to do it too quickly that you find yourself losing your balance. Before you can come crashing to the floor, Atsumu is quick to catch you, and you pretend that his protective embrace isn’t comforting. You pretend not to notice that he’s wearing the cologne you bought him for Christmas last year, and you continue to pretend that you don’t miss him at all, that you don’t still love him.

And for a second, the two of you both pretend that you’re still with each other. That it’s perfectly okay to savor this intimate moment, that his arms wrapped around your body right now isn’t awkward in the slightest. He’s staring at you with a sort of starstruck, boylike wonder, and it’s so familiar, so sweet, because it’s the way he always used to look at you. His lips part slightly, like he’s about to say something, and—

The loud ring! interrupts whatever moment the two of you are sharing, and you nearly jump out of his arms. You hear the distinct footsteps of another student, and you adjust your shirt before remembering where the two of you are — what the two of you are. Not a couple. Barely even friends. Just a bookstore employee and a student that needs a book. That’s all the two of you are allowed to be.

“I should probably go check up front and make sure they don’t need any help.” You tell him, biting down on your lip. “Anyway, did you need anything else, or would you like me to check you out right now?”

He blinks a few times, as if still in a daze. “Uh, yeah, sure.” The tips of his ears are flushed a light pink. “Y-yeah, I’m done here.”

The two of you practically race each other to the front of the store, and you step behind the counter to scan his workbook. He drums his fingers, looking around the store. When he’s nervous, he likes to be moving. You know this.

Just looking for an excuse to use his hands, Atsumu mindlessly picks a pack of gum off a nearby rack and slides it towards you so you can also scan it. You know you shouldn’t say it. You know it’s supposed to be a clean break. Instead, you tell him,

“Actually, if you want, I have the fruit variety flavor.”

“Huh?” This catches his attention.

You reach into one of the boxes that have just been shipped to the store, rummaging through a tiny one before revealing a shiny, new package of gum, this one advertising all the flavors based on tropical fruits. “Would you rather have this one?”

“Oh, yeah!” As if truly forgetting what the two of you actually are (exes, strangers with too much history, two people still pretending like they’re not in love), his eyes light up. “How did you kno—” He doesn’t finish the question. He knows the answer to the question.

You’re quick to finish ringing him up, the “polite strangers” illusion being completely shattered. It’s obvious, really, that there are always going to be parts of Atsumu that still live deep inside of you. You can only hope that this isn’t the case for him.

You hand him the bag, and when he grabs it from you, your fingers just barely graze each other’s. Atsumu is scared — scared that this might be the last time he ever feels your touch.

And because you’re a glutton for punishment, you find yourself telling him,

“Don’t be a stranger.”

You can’t tell who’s more devastated: you or him.

Some love for the YR writers, and their OCs

As a small gesture of thanks to the incredible creativity and generosity of fanfic writers, during this time of holiday excess and the AO3 YR tag being just lit!, I thought i’d pull together some favorites to share. Hopefully if you’ve haven’t read these fics yet, they might entice you. I know we all know and love the endless iterations of Wille and Simon, and Sara, August, and Felice, but did you know there are some truly incredible original characters in the YR fanfic library? Here are just a few of the characters that have stayed with me. Made an effort not to spoil in the descriptions! I’ve tried to spread the love across lots of writers and have tagged you if i know you're on Tumblr. And i mostly read AUs. If you’ve got other OCs you just love, please add to this!

So, in no particular order … Part 1 of ?.

Chetna from Tis the Damn Season by littelbluefish, (M, 15/15) - “in a near-constant state of dancing readiness” (i love her for that alone), also witty meddler, dispatches unwanted men with savage accuracy, pitch perfect level of snark, loves Simon to pieces.

MJ and Mario from And that’s how you make history baby by waybeforeyourtime (T, 16/?) - it’s difficult for me to choose between the two, but i think maybe the author would agree they are inseparable. MJ and Mario run Benders, a bar where Simon ends up performing. They literally jump off at the page at you. MJ, appearing as Mary Jane, gets one of the best entrances i’ve seen in a while. (“Mary Jane sat in front of the door of Benders in a crudely made replica of the Iron Throne from Game of Thrones, except it was dildos that adorned it, not swords. She wore a pale pink strapless dress, white fishnet stockings, and black patent-leather Mary Jane platforms.”) His partner, Mario’s, first words to Simon: “"I don't have time for games. Violet, kill the light.”, but it was a match made in heaven. The dialogue between these two!!! Read this fic! Run! Don’t walk!

Melvin from Simon Eriksson: Just some guy from biology (G, 1/1) by fandom_commitment_Issues (@zee-has-commitment-issues) - good student, considerate partner and father. On this list because he does deadpan so well. He kept a straight face when W huffed “I’m getting married to an idiot”.

Alba from Taking me Back (M, 6/?) by wilmonlibrarian - for being one of those too smart for your own damn good teenagers who sees straight through her own father, Simon. (Alba isn’t buying it. “So, you’re saying nothing I experience in the next few years will matter to me in the future?”) and yeah karma really is playing a terrible joke on poor W & S in this.

Luis from All the Places we’ve been (M, 10/10) by This_time_its_just_me (@in-amor-veritas) - Simon’s roommate in New York, Simon who has his own life and successful career as a singer. Gives Simon essential advice on what to wear to meet his ex (yes, you know the ex). (“Oh please, none of your clothes fit you correctly, Simón”) He works at one of NYC’s biggest fashion magazines. Think Devil Wears Prada, friends. Just the absolute funniest and most loving wingman, takes absolutely none of Simon’s bullshit or his polyester. Has entirely the correct reaction when he finds W in his bathroom.

Lotta from Heart and Homeland (M, 33/ ) by @bluedalahorse and @heliza24 - An intrepid, loyal, and revolutionary woman with a heart of gold, who holds the key to a major plot twist in this masterful AU set in the early 1800s, where Wilhelm is at the center of a fight for Sweden’s future, and everyone writes each other a lot of beautiful letters. (“Lotta sighs and giggles like we are best friends and says we should tell one another romances or fairy tales and I want to tell her that princes are not the same in real life as they are in stories.”) Don't miss this fic!

Hi, I'm new to Tumblr, new to the YR's fandom. Been lurking for a while. This is my first post. I obsess so much about this show. Not so healthy to be in such limerence, not getting so much work done lately. I took the obsession to a whole new level by subscribing to TV microscope's substack, getting a twitter account, an insta account etc. And it has just been feeding the obsession so far.

Anything to get some content.

Thanks for all these lovely insights. I've been reading an insane amount of stuff. I just refrained from reading the fanfic for lack of mental space.

Has someone a link to an analysis about the literary books that serve as intertextual reference in the show ? Apart form the Karin Boye reference, there is also a moment when Wille and Felice enter a classroom to clear the air after the awkward kiss. And there on the board, in capital letters, you have the list of the books they had to choose from (August Strindberg, 1849, Selma Lagerlof 1858, Hjalmar Soderberg 1869 and Karin Boye 1900. ) Can anyone link them to the show ?

Thanks in advance. I am not that versed in scandinavian authors (I had only heard about Stringberg).

ahsdhlgf i have so many!!!! i still need to check out the solangelo week fics bc i'm sure there are some absolutely incredible ones on there (for some reason i just haven't been feeling like reading solangelo lately, it's been a bit sporatic) however!! i still have PLENTY of recs - i know that i've made a post in the past with some of my favorite fics, and i also have public rec bookmarks on my ao3 if you want to check those out!!

but if you want more specifically fame/band/popstar au's (bc i completely agree, we NEED more of them. like pls make characters famous irl more often it's my absolute favorite trope) here are some of my favorites!!

paris by ethannku is an au where nico is a youtuber, so not singing, but it's formatted so so well and i'm absolutely in love with it!!! (also, i'm just genuinely obsessed with this idea)

Lo-Fi Heart Beats by alchemical_acrobat and Paint_splatt is a streamer au, and one of my favorites. honestly just any sort of fic where they have a fandom makes me soo happy and this one was so sweet!!

can i handle the seasons of my life? by buoyantsaturn has will as a burnt out child star and is now in college, so *technically* he's not a popstar (aside from his previous dcom songs) but!! it is still one of my favorite all time fics and has some aspects of the fame au!

he was seen on occasion (pacing the rocks, staring out at the midnights sea) by stargirltv IS!!!! one of the greatest popstar au's ever. like, nico's a bedroom pop artist, but i'd be so lying if i didn't say this partly inspired talk your talk (even tho ngl, i picture every single one of my favorite characters as popstars, it's my favorite passtime) i highly highly highly recommend!!!

and okay lesterlicious by apopcornkernel isn't a solangelo fic... nico and will actually don't even appear by lester and meg have a youtube channel and i fucking lvoe this fic so much like please please readlkjsfd

so i realize only one of those is a popstar au but we're just in a severe drought of them rip😭😭 but these all have fame aspects to them and i highly recommend them!!

as for the other part of the ask, yes i am aroace! and i tend to lean more towards the sex-repulsed side of the asexual spectrum (or rather, it's less discomfort and more just embarrassment to me, like, i just have to cringe whenever reading smut/attempting to write even anything impliedlkjsf) so don't worry about the questions, they don't make me that uncomfortable! to answer the question: yes, they probably have lmfao😭 i don't really think about it all that much, but i also don't hc either of them as ace *in this universe* (that is very important, i definitely hc them as ace in other universes) so it has happened by now - as to when/where/how that happened, i will leave that up to you bc i don't think i'll ever actually write it/imply that (i will simply cringe at my keyboard too hard)

1. Favourite fanfic of all time

Oh my goodness, such a hard one to answer. Probably Call Me Up Late by @royalwilmon. I read it very early on in my YR fic reading journey and it really stuck with me. I tend to not do lots of rereading but I’ve read that one at least three times and I love it every time. And there are scenes that I’ve gone back to reread when I’ve needing something to cheer me up too

2. Favourite writer of the fandom

Okay this is even harder to answer 😂. I love so many people’s stories and am subscribed to a lot of authors and do a little happy dance every time they upload a new story. I’m going to list a few: @iwouldnevergetintofanfic, @stretchoutfics, @unfortunate17, @ishotforthestars, @pleuvian, @piebingo, @pagegirlintraining, @groenendaelfic

6. Favourite one shot

It depends how long you might want a one shot to be. For a short one shot probably Soul Meets Soul (on lovers lips) by @unfortunate17 or like he hung the moon and the stars in the sky.

For a slightly longer one shot, The weekend by @stretchoutfics is amazing. As is you can stay by @princewillesothermom

16. A fanfic that hasn’t been updated for a looooong time but you’re hoping for it (no pressure on the writer!)

It’s not been a looooooong long time, but I’m eagerly awaiting the next chapter of I would drive on (to the end with you) by @glassdollls. (Reiterating the ‘absolutely no pressure at all’ for this - it’s not a plea for an update, just a letting you know that I’m really excited for when you do!)

That was way harder than I thought, and I’m left with the slight feeling of having chosen which child I like best 😅. But I always enjoy talking about fanfic! I can’t wait to see everyone’s answers!

Fics are tagged by title, author (i.e. tumblr and/or ao3 handle without dashes or underscores), fic length, stage of completion, ... Main pairings are also tagged as “first name character a x first name character b” (in alphabetical order) (i.e. "simon x wilhelm" and not "wilmon")

Sometimes I reblog more general things for author and/or readers, other times people come here to look for lost fic, and I've even been known to host events! Or well, one event, at the very least, but it was a VERY good Young Royals Week and you should definitely read all of it ;).

Oh lord. Fav fanfics? Idk if I could even come up with 10.

I don’t really read fanfic that much these days unfortunately, mostly bc I haven’t rlly had time with my current job. I do write fanfic on my AO3 though (but my updating is random bc I work a lot). You can find me on AO3 at dukeofdelirium

I have multiple ongoing fanfics, including a Death Note/lawlight one that I’m writing the 2nd chapter for when I have free time.

As for my all time fav fanfics? Ummmmmmm

1) Genius Is a Curse by Bloodshot Eyes both on ao3 and fanfiction.net.

This is a DN AU where Light never finds the DN. I will say it’s very heavy on mental illness and things like that, and ppl might find the content triggering so I would read with caution if this is the case for you. It’s a fanfic that I still think about to this day and that I’ve reread maybe 5 times in the last 14 yrs. Something about it rlly stuck with me and I still think about it all the time.

2) The Hinterland Doctrine aka Those Who Stand For Nothing Fall For Anything by Halfpromise both on ao3 and fanfiction.net

We all know where we were when this shit dropped lmfao. This is one of the most iconic death note/lawlight fanfics ever written and just so you’re aware, it’s almost 800,000 words. It has its own tv tropes article and everything 😂 I remember reading this fic in highschool and it had me fucked up in all sorts of ways. I’ve been thinking about rereading it bc I haven’t read it in years but I remember how much I loved it. It’s also an AU where Light is a politician, I’m not telling you anything else 🤫

3) motion picture soundtrack by lowlightt on ao3

this author…. This AUTHOR…. Nahhhhhh their writing makes me actually insane I’m serious. Me and my bestie kept sending their fics back and forth in our group chat and we were literally quoting the fics and going crazy until like 4am for multiple nights in a row 😂 see I’ll do it right now. IT’S VIOLENCE, THIS KISS! god that knocks the wind out of me 🤣

4) Drag You Down by chocomd on ao3

This is a Katara x Aang long fic where they break up and eventually get back together. I rlly love this author and I’ve read most of their works. I recommend all their stuff, especially Midnight Meditations and Without Water which are both one shots I believe? Don’t quote me on that tho

The only other fics coming to my mind are fanfics that my friends have written. Like I said, I don’t rlly read too much fanfic these days and when I do read them, I am very selective and picky about it. For a fic to hold my interest and actually be memorable, they rlly have to scratch a highly niche itch in my brain lol. I’ll link some of my besties fanfics if anyone wants to check them out :)

5) Golden Hour by FuelMyDelusions on ao3

This is a Jacob x Bella longfic and a Breaking Dawn rewrite (thank god cuz we all know it needs that) and I’m WAITING FOR BESTIE TO UPDATE 🙄 jk I can’t talk cuz I know she’s waiting for me to update my shit too 😔🤚🏻

6) Aurora - A New Dawn by poizonivory on ao3

This is another twilight Jacob x Bella longfic that is fixing the hot mess that Breaking Dawn aka Smeyer Hell created. I love this fic so much 👹 you’ll catch me in the comments acting weird

And to answer your last question, there isn’t any particular story or meaning behind my username. I’ve just had the username for years and so I use it for practically everything. My URL used to be different over a decade ago when I joined tumblr (I was a 100% death note blog at the time) but then I changed it to dukeofdelirium so I’ve kept this username for many years 😋✌🏻

i hope you are doing well!! i sort of wanted to ask you how you deal with negative comments on your works since i recently had one and it really made me disinterested to keep writing for the fandom in general... if you havent experienced this (this is lit my first time receiving one after 4 yrs of writing), dont feel pressured to answer ^^ :)

first off, thank u!! i will admit that i have not been on the receiving end of any rude comments but that could be because i feel like no one wants to publicize their hate on a platform like tumblr (esp since a majority of replies on a post are positive so they don’t wanna go against the grain?). i will say that it can def be hard to want to continue to write bc of a negative comment!! u put a lot of work into writing + it takes a lot to look at something you’ve written and say “yes, i want to share this with the public” so good job on even sharing ur work in the first place !!!

not trying to say that im anti constructive criticism, but when it comes to sharing things like fanfic and fan art, i think genuine fans of a media will never have an unsolicited negative opinion!! is every fanfic i read my cup of tea? no!!! but while i’ll make an effort to comment on fics i enjoy, i will never spend time leaving a negative comment especially when the author didn’t specifically ask for criticism!!! with that being said, i know it’s such lame n generic advice, but i would ignore it. writers, especially the ones i believe to be really good writers, don’t go out of their way to shit on someone else’s work. you should be so proud of yourself for even putting yourself out there and showing ur work to the public!!!!

hi there, me and my friend have an au (by no means an original one, ive seen others write on similar ideas) where instead of five jumping into the apocalypse, his first jump manages to drop Actual 13 yr old five right on top of reginalds funeral and hilariously the apocalypse actually gets genuinely averted this time just because the siblings have that extra level of responsibility that comes with having a real life (very reckless and curious of the future) pre-teen to handle plus the removal of stress from knowing the apocalypse is coming - I've been following your shifting together series pretty much since you started writing it and im super excited for the end of joining together bc your characterisation of five without the time travel/apocalypse in his past is a+ like id believe you were the author of tua levels of godtier writing so I was wondering if you had any thoughts on this concept of him being a genuine child the first go around and if not then if you just had anything else to say about his character minus apocalypse trauma/being an old man etc that you didn't put in your fanfic and still wanted to share as I love your version of him so much

I'm going to disappoint you on the first half - I genuinely spend very little time thinking about Five as a kid before everything. Little guy doesn't interest me until he gets slammed with a metric fuckton of trauma. Sorry, Five. If you want Number's apocalypse-free-childhood, I will enthusiastically point you to the first five chapters of The Shifting Mirrors, the fic I adopted him from. Orsumfenix is a phenomenal author and hits the balance I'd expect from a Five growing up in the Academy into a stunted man-child with the rest of his family.

I don't know that I have anything on the top of my head to add about Number at the moment. Only thought I've got right now is just my fondness for him. I think on of my favorite things in writing him is how he constantly kneecaps himself. He's just too smart and impulsive, he gets himself into corners and then is not good at getting back out of them so he just plows through. He's such a funny guy (intentionally and unintentionally) when he lets himself relax.

This year I read We Left Footprints When We Passed By by this_time_its_just_me (@in-amor-veritas) for the first time. Utterly devastating and wonderful.

I'm bending this one a little bit, because I have actually started it now! But it was Other people's secrets by @sflow-er. I'd been meaning to get round to it for ages and finally did, I'm a few chapters in and enjoying it so much!

I've previously answered this as Fake Dating, but since I love so many I'm going to add alternate meetings. I love watching them fall in love in any and all universes. I love ones that are similar to canon but a bit different (like We should escape for the night by @piebingo) or ones that are completely different. I love AUs (which surprised me), so anything where they start from a different point it great.

41. how do you choose the fic you read

I have a complete scattergun approach 😅. I mostly go off personal recommendations. Luckily YR Tumblr are very forthcoming with what they're reading at the moment so I use that a lot. Then I'm subscribed to a lot of my favourite authors. I then go through the tags and the summaries. I don't have any triggers that I avoid, but there're some things I choose not to read (or some things that I'm sometimes more in the mood for).

47*. WIP or not WIP

WIP! I never used to, and I'm so glad I decided to give it a try. There's no better feeling than getting an email about a fic you love getting updated 😍 (this doesn't transfer over into my writing, I have to have finished something before I start publishing. I recently went through and deleted an entire character from my WIP and had to go back through the whole thing to remove any reference to her 😅). If I don't have time to start a WIP, I subscribe to it so that I can catch up when I have a chance.

And you're absolutely right about everything. I am not a writer myself but I love to engage with fics and leave long comments. The interaction with the writers is one of my favorite things about reading fanfics because that's something you usually don't have (or at least not in that extent) when you're reading 'regular' books

Also I loved the yr week in april or all the fics for secret santa so thank you again to all of you for organzing these things, it's so appreciated 🧡

Heeey future anon! Glad to see you again, and glad I could be of some assistance in easing your worries. You've clearly already found your fandom path - leaving long comments are the best way to a writer's heart ;) (honestly this is a good reminder for me to do that more often 🙈) and as you say it really is something that makes fandom quite unique compared to 'regular' publishing.

But you're very welcome for YR week - it really was fun! So many authors outdid themselves that week. And you have @wilmon-secretsanta to thank for the wonderful Secret Santa creations, I can't take credit for that one :).

But really, it is I who should be thanking you, cause it's thanks to your ask and the reactions to it that I started getting in the mood for the next event and finally made the survey I'd been thinking about for some time now! (As I said in my previous response - round and round it goes: we inspire each other, and you don't have to be a fic writer to contribute to fandom - sometimes a well-timed ask is enough to set the wheels into motion ;) ).

For those curious: there's been about 50 responses to the survey so far, but I'm gonna leave it up for a little longer so everyone who wants to has a chance to participate. So I can't tell you what the next event will be YET (although I can tell you readers and writers have pretty different ideas of what they want to do/see 😂), but I have a feeling it's going to be even more fun than YR week ;).

Three ships: I'm not sure I have three ships. My main ship right now is Wilmon, Wilhelm/Simon from Young Royals, though I anticipate you guys will all know that! I also really love the pairing of Anne and Gilbert Blythe, especially in Anne with an E.

First ever ship: The first I actually remember is Guns and Handcuffs Aka Drarry Aka Draco/Harry from Harry potter. I read so much Harry Potter fanfiction. I actually found a Harry potter fanfiction I was writing when I was 11, in lime green Gel pen

Last movie: Okay maybe my answers are going to be boring, but I genuinely can't remember the last movie I watched. My attention span has been *short* lately. The last TV show I watched was The Circle, a terrible but fun reality tv show on Netflix.

Currently reading: Here's where I get nerdy!! Be prepared for me to waffle! Yesterday I picked up a vintage copy of a book called Things Will Take a Turn Stories Old and New by Beatrice Harraden. I assumed the book was pre- 1950 (probably the 30s.) and the book has a label/bookplate inside saying to was a awarded to a young girl for good schoolwork at a sunday school in a small town in England. There isn't a publishing date but I recognized the publisher (Blackie) as a Scottish one. The back of the book has a small sticker from the book and stationary shop it was purchased from in the small town. Not to overwhelm the paragraph, but things I've figured out so far: The original book was published 1894, and you can tell my copy isn't that old. The Church in the small town still exists, but the bookshop was sold in 1937. I even found pictures of the shop, the three at the bottom (warning for 2000s style bright purple text on dark black) This book is from the Stories Old and New Series, and I've found a ton in the series online that are from the mid to late 20s. Once I actually research the girl who won that book that will solve that mystery. Anyway, this is something I love. Researching treasures like this. And it's currently the book I'm reading, haha. I'm also reading a Cat in the Stacks mystery, I forget the title of that, but I'm working my way through them! Along with 1 trillion YR fanfics.

Actually something @heliza24 @bluedalahorse and @freakishly-bookish-ant in particular (but the rest of you too) might be really interested in is that I discovered that the Author of the Book, Beatrice Harraden was a Suffragette! Founding member of the Women's Social and Political Union (a Suffragette organization), member of the Women Writer's Suffrage League and the Women's Tax Resistance League (a group that used resisting taxes as a way to protest Women's disenfranchisement) among many other dope things related to women's rights.

Currently watching: I'm still kind of working my way through Gåsmamman. I haven't watched an episode in about month, but I am technically watching it.

Currently consuming: Water! I have a nice little bottle with me.

Currently craving: I'm craving cookie dough ice cream, I just want some gooood cookie dough ice cream. (heliza24 you should take that class, I''m with you on your craving too!)
