@ms-demeanor in the process of blocking several people being much more annoying than necessary re staff/live/people paying tumblr for products and services, the only real pattern I've noticed is basically all of the people discussing these wild conspiracy theories are between the ages of 19 to 23.
I don't think it's a hot take by any means, but I suspect a lot of them are the usual left-adjacent shit-disturbers on this site who reckoned being abusive towards staff is a lot more low effort/high reward than crab-bucketing other tumblr users. Who is going to defend staff in September of 2023? And what other callout post is going to get as much traction as accusing staff of some nefarious, implausible crime?
Do they actually believe what they're saying? That remains to be seen.
I'm predicting a "staff harvests adenochrome" post in the next 7 weeks.
No wait! "Staff keeps changing the layout to distract you from their adenochrome operation."

Shen Qingqiu triple trouble!
So, System Possession AU of @artsarasp is going through, stuff let's say. Angsty stuff. So of course my mind was like.
Let's make shen triplets!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The situation is, Shen Jiu has his fatal Qi deviation, Shen Yuan dies by choking on food and all is normal. But, some error occurs, and both Shen Jiu’s and Shen Yuan’s souls are in danger of disintegrating from the Qi deviation. The System notices this and tries to fix it, forcing the soul to generate a body to occupy from basically thin air. But there’s a problem, since there’s two souls that are now generating a body, meanwhile the original body is still functional, though has been metaphorically dragged through the mud. Thus, both Shen Jiu and Shen Yuan materialize with new bodies while the System is absorbed into the spare body.
So now we have three Shen Qingqius. And the System is Not Happy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Neither is Shen Jiu to be honest.
Shen Yuan somehow convinces both the System and Shen Jiu that they should pretend to just be brothers, make some bullshit about trapped consciousness to fool the peak lords, while he wacks his brain to try to avoid death or punishment from the enraged System. Which can still give both points and punishments. The problem is that since he got the short end of the stick in the body lottery, he has to be very careful of exerting the body’s limits, so he can’t get agitated. And giving punishments is very agitating. Shen Yuan is basically trying to make the System care. If Wall-E can love, so can the System, wouldn’t it be better for the story if he becomes an active member? It would also be better to leave the story to develop itself organically, think about all the character development! So the protagonist can have a more round support cast! If he read something like that, he wouldn’t have criticized so much the papapa scenes since he could just focus on that! What do you think System-bro?
Meanwhile Shen Jiu is very conflicted, since these, what, fakers? Clones? Some type of demons? Are stealing his face and seem to have some ulterior motive, but both seem eager to ‘help him’ somehow. Granted, the blue eyed freak is creepy as fuck, a fake cherfulness that all his instincts scream to get away from, but he’s mostly… nice. The definition of the word, at least. The other fake is snarky, doesn’t really back down from a verbal dispute, and, while infuriating, it’s more real. Safer, in a way, more honest. Besides, the blue eyed one is useful when trying to find synonyms while writing or finding the name of a song he couldn’t remember well. They can stay, for now.
System is actually scared. They saved the scum villain character, but made a bigger problem while also becoming… vulnerable. How could they make sure the story functions if they have a weak and frail body? They are forced to play along, become a more direct support to the characters to make sure they stay in line. But [User02] seems to have other ideas, and while they must punish him, they really can’t without suffering themselfs. The original scum villain for the most part follows the script, but he also seems perturbed by their presence, which is fine. All is fine, they should be able to fix it.
Somehow.
The three of them are mostly the same in appearance. The major difference that the peaklords catch on is the mark on the forehead (I don’t remember what it is called). Shen Jiu has a lotus flower painted, Shen Yuan has a dot while the System has an empty circle, resembling a zero. Both Shen Jiu and the System have their clothes correctly, while Shen Yuan doesn’t really know how any of his layers of clothes work, so he fastened the belt around everyone, even the outer robe. Finally, the System has their hair tight to their head, Shen Jiu has it a little loose to let it flow but staying neat and clean. Shen Yuan just, tries his best. Finally, the System’s face is kinda cartoonish, they make faces that shouldn't be possible, stretching his smile wide and making their eyes a little too big. Both Shens don’t mention it much, they just say they’re special.
I don’t know what came to me to do this shit, but now’s here, deal with it.

Spanish rambling when this idea just came barreling through my brain.

Revolutionizing Gate Security with an AI Based Traffic Management System
Access control has come a long way from paper logs and security guards relying on memory and manual records. As cities grow denser and security threats evolve, managing who enters and exits a facility — be it a gated society, business park, or government compound — has become a challenge of both scale and sophistication.
Enter the ai based traffic management system: a modern, automated solution that doesn’t just monitor vehicle movement but actively makes decisions in real time. By combining artificial intelligence, license plate recognition, and smart hardware, facilities can now enforce access rules, monitor vehicle flow, and maintain tight security without compromising speed or convenience.
In this blog, we explore how AI is transforming gate-level traffic control, the role of technologies like ANPR, and how this contributes to a broader ai traffic management ecosystem. Plus, we’ll walk you through a real-world case study that demonstrates its impact.
🚗 The Shift Toward AI-Based Gate Control
Traditional gate management systems are often reactive, slow, and vulnerable to human error. Long queues during peak hours, manual logbooks, unauthorized entries, and limited surveillance coverage have plagued security and efficiency for years.
An ai based traffic management system streamlines this entire process. It enables:
Automated vehicle identification
Instant decision-making on access permissions
Real-time monitoring and logging of every event
Secure records for future audits and surveillance
At the heart of this transformation is ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) — a technology that uses AI to detect and read vehicle license plates.
🔍 How AI and ANPR Power Modern Gate Entry Systems
Let’s break down how a modern AI-enabled gate system functions from the moment a vehicle approaches the entrance.
1. Vehicle Detection at Entry Point
When a vehicle nears the gate, AI-enabled cameras detect its presence. This triggers the system to initiate the number plate recognition process without any need for human input.
2. ANPR – The Brain of the Operation
The ANPR system captures the license plate in real-time and processes it using computer vision and OCR (Optical Character Recognition). It is capable of:
Reading plates across a wide range of vehicle types
Detecting plates in low light using IR (infrared) support
Identifying handwritten, commercial, private, EV, and non-standard plates
This data is then sent to the central AI system for validation.
3. Authorization Decision by AI
The ai based traffic management system checks the captured plate number against a pre-authorized vehicle database. The logic is simple:
Match found → Entry granted
No match → Vehicle flagged as a visitor or unauthorized entity
This allows access decisions to be made in a split second with zero manual delay.
4. Barrier Control & Seamless Entry
Once the system grants access, it sends a signal to the automated boom barrier to open. This allows for contactless and rapid entry.
No guard intervention needed
Queues are minimized
Access control is auditable and secure
5. Real-Time Logging of Entries & Exits
Every entry and exit event is logged securely in the system. These logs include:
Date and time
Number plate
Entry/exit image snapshots
Authorization status
This not only enhances transparency but creates a digital audit trail for surveillance and incident resolution.
6. Round-the-Clock Monitoring
Modern AI systems don’t sleep. They operate 24x7 and can be monitored from centralized or remote locations. Facility managers can:
Review vehicle history
Track visitor patterns
Receive real-time alerts for unauthorized entries
7. Visitor Management and Data Collection
For vehicles not found in the authorized database, the system initiates a visitor protocol:
Captures number plate
Takes snapshot of vehicle
Records driver or visit details
Notifies security/admin panel
Stores visit history for future reference
This ensures that even unauthorized vehicles are managed securely, without friction or loopholes.
🏙️ Case Study: AI Traffic Management at a Logistics Campus Gate
Context: A large logistics company operating a 24/7 hub in a metro area experienced frequent bottlenecks at its entry gates. With hundreds of commercial trucks entering daily, manual checks slowed the process, and unauthorized vehicles occasionally slipped through.
Challenges:
Frequent gate congestion
Limited guard oversight during night shifts
Lack of audit-ready entry records
Complaints from delivery partners due to long wait times
Solution:
They deployed an ai based traffic management system with ANPR cameras at all entry and exit gates. The system included:
Real-time number plate recognition
Integration with the logistics fleet database
Auto-controlled boom barriers
Alert mechanism for blacklisted vehicles
Cloud-based log storage
Impact (after 60 days):
Vehicle processing time dropped by 45%
Unauthorized entry attempts reduced by 90%
Security staffing optimized by 30%
Audit-ready logs enabled instant reporting
Visitor vehicle management improved response times by 55%
Conclusion: AI transformed gate security into a data-driven, scalable, and responsive system, reducing operational friction while improving safety.
🔐 Benefits of AI Traffic Management at Gate-Level Access
The use of AI and ANPR in traffic gate systems offers a wide range of benefits beyond just speed and automation.
✅ Security and Control
No unauthorized vehicle can enter undetected
Blacklisted or banned vehicles are flagged instantly
Secure logs help in resolving disputes or incidents
✅ Operational Efficiency
Reduces wait time and gate congestion
Automates repetitive tasks for guards
Optimizes staff utilization
✅ Accurate Visitor Management
Every visitor vehicle is accounted for
Image and plate evidence for every entry
Helps build a database of frequent visitors
✅ Real-Time Alerts and Remote Oversight
Admins can track movement from anywhere
Can trigger alerts for suspicious patterns or repeat offenders
Synchronizes with other security tools like CCTV or VIDS
✅ Seamless Integration
Can be synced with internal databases (residents, employees, delivery vehicles)
Works with apps or access tokens for layered control
Forms part of a smart campus or smart city grid
📈 AI-Based Vehicle Access Control vs Traditional Systems

🧠 The AI Brain Behind It All
What truly elevates gate access from smart to intelligent is AI decision-making. The system is trained to:
Detect unauthorized behavior patterns
Learn peak entry/exit times and self-adjust
Flag anomalies (e.g., a vehicle attempting multiple entries)
Auto-generate alerts based on risk profiles
Deliver insights into infrastructure needs (e.g., suggest adding a second gate)
These capabilities make it a core pillar of ai traffic management, not just access control.
🔮 Looking Ahead: The Future of AI Traffic Management at Entry Points
As AI continues to evolve, we can expect access control systems to become even more sophisticated:
Face + plate dual verification
Vehicle-to-gate communication for faster identification
Driver behavior analysis via in-vehicle cameras
Geo-fencing for high-security zones
AI-assisted parking space allocation upon entry
In the near future, your gate won’t just open for you — it’ll know why you’re coming, how long you’ll stay, and whether you’re authorized for specific areas.
🧾 Final Thoughts: Building Safer, Smarter Entry Points with AI
Gate-level vehicle access is no longer just about letting cars in and out. It’s about securing a facility while ensuring fluid movement — a task that traditional systems cannot keep up with in today’s high-speed, high-risk environments.
By implementing an ai based traffic management system powered by ANPR and smart decision logic, facilities can unlock a trifecta of security, efficiency, and control. From residential societies to industrial zones, AI is making sure that every gate becomes smarter, faster, and future-ready.
As the need for safe, smart, and self-adjusting infrastructure continues to grow, gate access control stands out as a powerful entry point — both literally and digitally — for broader ai traffic management transformation.

It is said that communism is quote "great in theory buttttt human nature doesnt agree with it"
I think people should ask themselves, what is human nature and if human nature is flawed what then is the ideal?
What is in fact the Soviet man, the man perfect for communism and the man which communism is perfect for?
There is one slight issue Ive had in the past in determining one, because the perfect soviet man doesnt need communism but does need therapy, but the man who is perfect for communism does.
The ideal of the man who bet fits the system, is a man of unlimited ability of production, and zero ability to place it in his own service. A man who will take every extra shift at any sort of job others set for him, and it has to set for by others because he should not determine it for himself. In short the man communism needs to function is a society of slaves who are content to be lead as slaves. This man is an unlimited means looking for an end.
However because you cant have an entity without determining the course of your life the question is what then is the man perfect for communism. The man who determines the sum of that unlimited means, the man of need. A man whose sole value he can give the system is its direction by . This man will serve as the unlimited end not by any virtue, effort on his part, or great reason by creating or being the worst possible version of himself.
And the ideal for every man is to be both of these men under communism. You recognize that a man cant be both its either or with neither being good. Either a slave who is content with his enslavement or a man whose right to rule is bought by his incompetence.
Fun fact btw the "issues" with the black book is that its rounding errors are in the ball park of a millions vs the 100 million possible deaths. So either way you are looking at its 101 million or 99 million. That's the error "discrediting" the book.
Also when you say "real communism has never been tried" you omit that the attempts have happened and failed, such as at the beginning of the soviet union where they got rid of money and classes, and suffered terribly from it and now declare communism requires world conquest of the entire world without exception. And its only the last stage currently.
What "Communism never works" misses
Tumblr media
Okay, let me keep up the topic for the week and let me talk about one thing that will undoubtedly be thrown at anyone, who says something along the lines of: "Welp, the system is failing us. Maybe we should try communism." And that is: "Communism never works. It has never worked before!"
As someone, who had that argument thrown at them so many times before, I already know that for the most part it is useless to talk to someone who comes up with that argument. Because, well... here is the thing. The argument basically is a result of what amounts to brainwashing. The person will usually not know what communism is or how and why it has failed before. They will not know anything about communist parties or countries. And they usually do not want to know.
Usually they do not know, that communism was never tried before. Yes, several countries have tried to establish communism, but never got further than socialism. Nor do they know exactly, what the difference between all those different communist ideas are. And of course they do not know anything about the history of the USA (and other western countries) doing their best to suppress communism by any means necessary.
Which is the first thing that everyone, who uses the argument, misses. Basically...
If communism can never work, why does the USA try everything to stop anyone trying to establish it?
If it cannot work and will never work, they would not need to worry about it. It will just develop and then fail. Easy. No need to stage a coup d'etat against a democratically elected government. No need to snuggle up to fascist dictators. Just let the thing run its course and then maybe send some help, once communism has self-destroyed. Something that they say is inevitable.
But obviously they don't. So: Why?
It cannot be about saving some sort of democracy, because otherwise they would not help undemocratic forces to take over the country and allow them to hold it.
But there is another thing that the argument misses. And even bigger thing. Another question:
But does capitalism work?
Which is the thing that kinda gets left out of the discussion. Because even if we assume that communism could not work (doubtable)... There is the fact that capitalism does not work. Otherwise fascism would not again and again be established from capitalism. Otherwise capitalism would not have destroyed the planet. Otherwise capitalism would not kill millions of people per year.
See, people will always go big about the entire "Black book of communism" thing and eat it up, even though the book has so many issues in what it counts as "death from communism" - and that is even without going in the entire "communism was never established" thing. But even if we took the numbers at face-value... According to the book, communism has killed 100 million people.
Well, guess what. That is about the same number of people that capitalism kills in a decade. And while the black book of communism counts all those people killed by politics not necessarily linked to communism... Those 10 million dying of capitalism each year die of capitalism. They die because they have not money for medicine, they need to survive. They die, because they starve, while so much food is thrown away. They die of exposure to the elements, because they cannot afford a home. They die from the fallout of climate change.
So, yeah. First of all: Let's try out communism, before we argue that it cannot work.
But also: Realize, that capitalism does not work. Because it doesn't.

Note
Feel free to disregard if not relevant to you. I'm just a former massage therapist that focused heavily on injury work, so I see things a bit differently than the average doctor.
Random ass thought after coming across your post regarding how dance changed your body. Have you ever tried shifting to wearing "barefoot" shoes? IE, zero arch support and no toe drop?
I have zero experience with dance, but I'm pretty sure all those shoes and whatnot you trained in were, essentially, barefoot shoes. Except maybe the tap shoes; I think those have heels. Anyway.
Your foot spasms *may* be related to you having built up enough musculature to properly support your own feet (vice everyone who started in arch supports via their shoes as kids). Wearing arch support when your body doesn't want it can be very painful, and cause all sorts of issues (speaking from experience here - I transitioned to barefoot shoes back in 2011 and cannot wear regular ones anymore without lots of foot pain).
Just figured I'd throw it out there, since probably no doctor or physio would think to look at it that way (least, not that I've ever experienced). Again, feel free to completely disregard if not relevant, or you've already solved the foot spasm problem another way. I will admit to not taking the time to browse your blog to find the answer.
Wishing you the best, and thank you for sharing that perspective of how dance permanently changed your body and its relevance to folks being idiots regarding trans kids.
Hey! Thank you for your message! It’s always interesting what piques people’s interest to slide into my DMs when that post with my addition starts doing the rounds again, and this is a new (and fascinating) one!
You are correct that the ballet and jazz slippers are functionally being barefoot (and contemporary, which is a style didn’t do, is also actually barefoot or with a little sock over the ball of the foot). I don’t mention in that particular post that I also did hip-hop, which has more structured shoes with cushioning but a flexible middle, and normally look something like these (although I don’t recall mine having quite as severe a heel):
Tumblr media
And yes, the outlier would probably be my tap shoes, which were far more rigid and had a heel. The biggest problem I think those posed was I wore ill-fitting ones (too tight) and also the fact that tap involves a lot of stamping and hitting different parts of your foot on things and such.
I was also a swimmer, and while that’s not quite the same as being fully on your feet on land, that did mean for my other big time-consuming physical activity I was walking around the pool barefoot, pushing myself of starting blocks and wall barefoot, and obviously kicking to swim barefoot.
I’m also autistic/have ADHD, so I never liked wearing shoes much anyway, and basically have always taken them off at the first vaguely socially-acceptable chance and had a preference for what in my brain were “form fitting” shoes (canvas and/or thin soles) or thongs (flip-flops). I now have an office at my university, and so in my everyday life I now only wear shoes to and from my car, and if I am leaving my building for food or a meeting. Walking around in my building I will just be in socks. I also tend to drive barefoot, and be barefoot at home and immediately remove my shoes at other people’s houses, rehearsal rooms, church, etc.
By trial and error I’ve learned that the biggest things that helped with reducing the spasming for me were: stretching my legs, particularly calves; magnesium soak (per doctor recommendation); using toe spreaders/tennis ball; accidentally learning how to crack the middle of my foot and my toes while doing massage on myself; and changing/minimising shoes.
So overall I am fascinated by this suggestion of it being about the pain coming from having developed musculature/having too much support because yes, what you’re describing seems to be consistent with my experience! I did a very cursory internet search about heel drop just now and then stared at my most comfortable shoes, and indeed they do seem to be the ones with little to no heel drop. Also looking inside the shoes, there does seem to be a pattern between comfort and lack of arch support, uh oh! So yes, maybe I should look into barefoot shoes.
I will also say that I found out last year that I was experiencing Restless Leg Syndrome (bad enough that it was keeping me awake at night) because I was very iron deficient. I subsequently underwent an iron infusion and the RLS disappeared, and at that same time the spasming also reduced significantly. However, the RLS to me seemed to be an entirely separate thing to the spasming - RLS was basically just paresthesia, the spasming I could visibly see the muscles in my arch moving and was painful. I suspect the causations between the iron and spasms are probably not as direct as between the iron and RLS, because my iron levels are back to normal now but I do still sometimes get the spasms. The correlation possibly comes from the fact I was wearing shoes a lot more when I had the RLS (because wearing shoes reduced that sensation for me), and also not sleeping meant I didn’t want to be physically active + I’m sure it impacted my body’s repair and recovery.
Anyway, fascinating food for thought, thank you again for your message! Also trans rights, trans liberation, and protect trans kids!

I have several questions...
In my previous post, I went through the design choices and math that went into calculating the number of years the protagonist of the game accumulates when travelling millions of light years between black holes. In this post, I’d like to address some thoughts and challenges that came up when implementing this counter, both from technical and in-universe story perspectives.
The technical challenge
I’ll try not to get too much into the details here, but essentially, computers can only store so many numbers until they start behaving in very strange ways. From really large numbers rolling over back to zero (integer overflow), or simply losing precision and odd mathematical calculations due to rounding errors, one has to be careful when dealing with big numbers in code. As my duration calculations are just estimates, I was not concerned at all with rounding errors, but I absolutely did not want to see the years counter resetting after too much travel in-game.
One of the ways around this, and the method I used, was to split a big number up into two different variables, the base number (ranging from 1 to 9.99) and an exponent of the number 10. If you’re familiar with it, this is essentially scientific notation, and something like 2 million will look like 2 x 10^6. Let’s have a look at the code above to see how I went about implementing this.
The first image shows a very simple script. It takes a number, and uses a logarithm (base 10) function to essentially “count” how many digits are in a number. I then raise 10 to the power this number, and divide the original number by it, to bring it between 1 and 9.99.
The second script deals with the addition of two numbers with different powers. First, convert the numbers if they aren’t already in the above format. Next, get the difference in exponents, and put the second number in the same scale as the first number. Add them together and if that number is outside the 1-9.99 range, update the exponent variable. Took me a little bit to get this working, but I’m quite proud of it, especially coming from a not-so-mathsy background!
And is this 70s accurate?
The game takes place in the 70s, and one of my friends brought up an interesting point - because the way I display these numbers is indeed using scientific notation, would 70s computer architecture store such big numbers in the same way? Looking further into it, probably not - the main method that computers use to store large numbers is using consecutive bytes in memory and just remember which 10s position they’re at! That’s fine though, because you could easily convert it to scientific notation using the method I just described above
Furthermore, one of the first things that your AI (who’s had a VERY long time to develop) does is a revamp of your system and suit’s computer architecture (within reason, given the now-primitive hardware). So, (and this is the handwave-y part), there’ll be numerous processing efficiencies imparted that will allow the software to perform at a level way above what it was originally designed for. It has to be this way because otherwise, the moment you step outside you’ll get your suit hacked and disabled by the universe’s dumbest robot. And that would be a plot hole. Picture highly related.
Tumblr media
Speaking of plot holes...
You might be willing to accept that sure, advanced technology maybe could stand up to the millions of years in deep space, but how does the frail human body even hope to last that long?
While the time period is indeed the 70s, it’s more of an alternate-universe styled thing where materials science and hardware rapidly advanced while the software side got left in the dust. So at the beginning of the game, the technology to safely cryo-freeze and wake humans exists, and this is what happens to your character en-route to the first black hole. Spending so long in orbit so close to a black hole then lets relativity kick in, slowing down time to almost a standstill while the rest of the universe keeps on ticking. As a side note, the simulated travel speed of 1% of the speed of light is no where near there’s essentially no effects of relativity occurring while travelling, only during close orbits of black holes.
But the journey from earth to the first black hole is only a fraction of the multi-million light year distances that you’ll be doing through the course of the game. And to survive that? Well, I’ll be up-front with you, I haven’t decided how I want things to play out. It could just be more cryo-freezing but with advanced technology. Or a whole other host of existential-crisis-inducing possibilities. Like I said, I’m undecided I want to do. The fate of the character might also depend on which ending you get...
Despair?!
On the topic of existential crises, another of my friends said that, for a sci-fi game, he’d expect to see massive numbers spiraling out of control. At first I thought he was referring to the battle system and suggesting some insane Disgaea-esque inflation on stats and damage values. However, he clarified he meant more in terms of the theming and fluff that the player will experience.
And I absolutely agree with that sentiment! I think giving the players such incomprehensibly large numbers really emphasises how tiny and insignificant humanity is in relation to literally everything else - both in-game and in real life. Things like distances, times, masses, speeds, counts... I really hope to make these large numbers somewhat prominent, so that players don’t forget about the vastness of space on their travels.
Anyways, that’s it from me for now! Thanks for reading!

Takeuchi - Murmurs
Tumblr media
Murmurs are snippets of character reflection earned by increasing Explore Points during Exploration. They usually include 6-7 monologues about other characters and 3-4 monologues about things important to the specific character.
These lines are taken straight from the English translation of the game, so fair warning of bad grammar.
About Yatsufusa “According to my statistics, older vampires tend to rank above C-Class... Presumably, D-Class and under end up dying.
But it’s a shame with Yatsufusa. Because he is a C-Class that has all the potentials to fight in a battle. Yet, he cannot demonstrate that in a different way than Kurusu can’t.
It seems he occasionally uses the umbrella I gave him... He’ll end up hurting himself if he carelessly swings a sword since he has never trained for it. And he will break it if he uses it with all his strength. I can’t let a civilian hold a sword anyway. So, an umbrella was the best solution.
...Oh! I have an exciting idea that improves his umbrella. Haha, this will help him even if he’s not a good fighter...”
About Kurusu “Kurusu is very intriguing. He is the strongest vampire in Japan! How is he different from other vampires?! Unfortunately, current science does not allow me to analyze blood at a micro-level... In that case, I must invent a machine that can. I’d love to improve Kurusu’s abilities from an A-Class to S-Class and above through my inventions.
If Colonel Maeda who is a human can defeat unranked vampires, then that means dynamic visions can be improved through training. This then leads me to the question- do I use a drug or machinery to improve his speed and muscle strength...
But Kurusu must improve his speed of judgement more than anything. That, I cannot help him no matter how great I am. It probably comes from his kindness. But, oh well. I’ll let Colonel Maeda deal with that.”
About Maeda “Colonel Maeda is certainly an intelligent person. A true rationalist and finds the best course of action in an instant- because how else can someone decide to amputate their right arm after being bitten by a vampire before the poison enters their system? The surgery went well because he was in luck with a series of events. His wound was a clean-cut, he was able to stop the bleeding, and the fact that Code Zero has plenty of blood supplies for us vampires...
I’d say he was still lucky to survive despite having an aftereffect due to hemorrhage of the heart. I must say he is an astounding human being since his combat skills are still the same where he is capable of beating vampires to death with his prosthetic arm.
Ah- that reminds me that he asked me to fix his arm. What next functions should I add next?”
About Yamagami “Yamagami is the best to experiment on. I wonder what will happen... if I can make him strong enough so he can fight with my inventions? Alas, the greatest assassin will be born! We vampires cannot detect ones that rank below us- they appear like an ordinary person to us.
Yamagami on the other hand is capable of detecting every vampire out there since he is unranked. Which makes him the best candidate to become an assassin sneaking up on vampires from behind! I must conduct every experiment on Yamagami then! It will become a revolution for us vampires if the experiment succeeds.
However, there is just one problem... Yamagami’s personality is not ideal to become an assassin...”
About Suwa “We did not have any vampires that specialized in combat at the time when Code Zero was established. That is why we induced Suwa into our team. I knew the moment I heard the rumor about a vampires that hunts other vampires that he will join our unit.
One of the reasons was that I heard he was alive even before the Edo period... He must be clever if he managed to survive hundreds of years since it is not easy for vampires to survive such a long period.
Secondly, we carry the same goal if he enjoys hunting vampires, whatever his reasons may be. Back then, vampires in the Imperial Capital shivered when hearing “Vampire Hunter.” It’s very promising if that “Vampire Hunter” joins Code Zero.
His body was of a child’s, so his arms were too short for Japanese swords. That is why I made him two daggers.”
About Defrott “I wonder if Defrott will allow me to study his blood... We don’t have any blood samples of S-Class vampires nor any data yet. But he’s not the type that goes with “Please” and “Thank you.” After all, I do not want to die either.
...All I want is to conduct my research peacefully. No need to panic or rush. It’ll become available someday. I can get close to the birth of vampires- if I can learn about S-Class vampires. When, why, and how did we derive...? The only thing we know is that the oldest vampires on the recond spoke ancient Greek... Were they the first? Or did vampires exist long before that, but the records got lost...
It is a mystery how humanity began, but it is even a bigger mystery how vampires started. Was it a strain that occurred during the evolution process. Or mutation... Some call it evil or the devil’s doing. However, I do not believe in unscientific things.”
About Tenman-ya “Come to think of it, our relationship with Tenman-ya has been going on for quite a long time. Considering Colonel Maeda’s personality, there is no way he will miss a vampire’s nest like them...
But perhaps they’re untouched because of the amount of information they’ve accumulated about vampires since the Edo period and the fact that they’ve been confining vampires that are in the Imperial Capital.
As far as I’m concerned, it’s a give-and-take relationship since they refer me to wholesales to sell my drugs I invented. The vampires referred through Tenman-ya are all clean and diligent. Some practice Western medicine like me so it helps.
It appears vampires fight all year round when just looking at Code Zero, but the one that avoid battle are the ones that live long. Tenman-ya supports those vampires.”
About the Experiments “There are three ways to kill a vampire. One, have them fight a vampire that outdo them. Very primitive method. Two, make them powerless through science. What we are currently doing. Three, obtain strength that overthrows higher rank vampires through science. This- is our homework.
Creating heavy firearms is easy, but we are dealing with swift subjects... Even unranked vampires may be described as “...at lightning speed” to an ordinary person.
Thus, I am working on a drug that improves our physical ability... I mixed some into Yamagami’s food the other day, and the results were quite surprising. It was as if he got drunk. I thought I developed a drug that makes the world seem slow, but Yamagami said “The world is spinning! You blockhead!”
My work is trial and error. Well, I do have plenty of time.”
About the Past “I never would’ve imagined that I would end up being a serviceman when I was just an ordinary human being working at a pharmaceutical company. It all happened when the military authorities asked me to research a certain blood sample. I accidentally exposed it to sunlight without knowing that it was vampire blood. The flask exploded from the boiling blood...
Luckily, I did not die from the poison and gained a brain that never degenerates. It was pure coincidence, but I was lucky indeed. I can come close to the secrets of this world with an eternally young brain.
I don’t mind not being able to walk under the sun. I was in the lab day and night in the first place. Not feeling time or seasonal changes aren’t important to me. I don’t care much about food either.
Research is my life! I am the happiest vampire on Earth!”
About the Side Job “Code Zero hardly has any budget for R&D... But we aren’t a special unit that simply gathers vampires for combat. Weak, domestic ones can benefit from my drugs and put up a decent fight with the ones ranking above them. I believe- that is the purpose of our unit.
Colonel Maeda couldn’t care less about the name of the unit. So I named it “Zero”- implying “Starting everything from zero.”
Either way, you need money to experiment. That is why I sell my inventions beneficial to humans to department stores and medical institutions made in the process of my vampire studies. The profit I make all goes to my research. Every purchase helps us foster future vampires.”

First there was SkyKnit. Now there's HAT3000
Tumblr media
[Chunky Hat”, crocheted by Joannastar]
A while ago, I tried to train a neural network to generate knitting patterns by showing it a few thousand existing patterns so it could use trial and error to generate new patterns. I called the project SkyKnit, and its new patterns were… well, they were patterns. But they were nothing like the patterns it had been trained on. The test knitters of Ravelry’s adults-only, often-indecorous LSG forum had to do a lot of debugging to turn them into reality and, even debugged, SkyKnit’s patterns were strangely organic, prone to weird branching ribbing and organic-looking holes, turning into irregular shapes or even tentacles.
Tumblr media
[Make Caows and Shapcho, knitted by MeganAnn, and Lacy 2047, knitted by michaela112358]
Ever since the SkyKnit project, I’ve wanted to do a version for crochet. Like knitting, crochet has strong ties to mathematics and programming, and in many ways it’s more flexible. A crochet algorithm could potentially create even more exotic shapes than SkyKnit did.
For this project, to be dubbed HAT3000, I decided to make some improvements. I would train it on just crochet hats, which ought to be simple enough and similar enough that a neural net might be able to figure out the general pattern and produce functional designs. The LSG forum crocheters helped me assemble training data of 500 vintage out-of-copyright patterns, plus these kind designers contributed their own patterns to the effort: krisitis-patterns, irishlacenet, SierraPelona, fairyhedgehogg, watrpriestess, RachyNewin, agnosticnun, UnplannedCauli, membril, Moogly, and SuviCrochets.
I used Max Woolf’s gpt-2-simple collab notebook to finetune OpenAI’s GPT-2-355M neural net model. It’s pretrained with a bunch of non-crochet knowledge from the internet (fanfiction, recipes, conspiracy theories), but it does have a much longer memory than SkyKnit does, so will have a better chance of being able to figure out how the rows relate to one another. HAT3000 was set up for success.
My first indication that something was going wrong was when the hats kept exploding into hyperbolic super-surfaces.
A pattern would start modestly enough with what could plausibly be the crown of a hat, but somewhere there would be an instruction that made the next row MUCH bigger than the previous row, and then the next row MUCH bigger than that. The later rows would turn floppy to fit all that length in while still attached to a much smaller row, and then the next rows would have to curl even more. Ruffles would turn to tight ruffles, and then to corals, and then to brains.
Tumblr media
Here’s one rather innocently titled “Brim Hat Pattern #1708” which Ravelry user Persipan heroically crocheted all the way through the final row (or at least, halfway through that final row; we haven’t heard from them since, they’re probably okay). By Row 9, there are over 1700 stitches. Row 10 has 3500 stitches, took 9.75 hours to complete, and even that is nothing compared to the edging.
Tumblr media
Almost all of HAT3000’s patterns did this, eating yarn, eating sanity, becoming more and more hyperbolic, threatening to collapse into black holes… why, since none of the example hats did this?
A few people explained it to me thus: It looks like it’s really hard for HAT3000 to NOT fill the planet with ruffly brains. Basically, since most hats are built from the center out, HAT3000 only knows how to make each circle bigger than the previous one, adding 1 new stitch for every 2 in the previous row, or, for the faster increases usually used at the center of a hat, as many as 5 or 8 stitches for every 1 in the previous row. That would still be okay if HAT3000 knew how to control its increases. Unfortunately, if it accidentally increases too much in 1 row, that excess increase gets multiplied by the next layer, which in turn gets multiplied again. The tiniest instability turns exponentially into yarn-eating disaster. Meanwhile, HAT3000 thinks it’s doing great because the pattern text itself is still very close match to what a human would do. It has no idea that its hat has exploded.
The worst offender is a pattern called simply “The End…” which by my calculations requires enough yarn to wrap the known universe in a ball of yarn about a billion light years thick.
Some of HAT3000’s patterns did actually produce hats, though they tended to all be tiny (probably because they had fewer rows and therefore fewer opportunities to begin suddenly expanding).
Tumblr media
Other patterns produced not hats but strange artifacts, purpose unknown. Here’s the full pattern for one, called “Hang in Wind”:
Hang in Wind: Toss the pieces together. This is the windmill: Windmill in Wind: With a 1 cc ball of yarn, ch 14, join. Do not join, twist yarn to form a knot, or cut yarn.
Tumblr media
Other patterns were equally inscrutable.
Tumblr media
“New theory: HAT3000 didn’t want us to make hats for ourselves. We’re making hats for neural networks. Which are weird and amorphous and have dimensions and connections that humans cannot comprehend and also don’t really have heads.” - ScarlettTanager
One of the most entertaining aspects of the finetuned HAT3000 was how much of its original broad training it retained. Prompt it with the beginning of a story, and it could still add to the story in more or less the same style as the prompt. Hilariously, its strategy was now to gradually work the topic back toward crochet hats. In the paragraphs below, the prompt I gave HAT3000 is in bold. The AI did the rest.
Harry whirled to face Snape, heart beating hard. “Wh--What will you do?”
Snape’s eyes narrowed slightly and he lowered his wand, then stepped aside. As he approached behind Harry, he knelt down to kiss the front rim of Harry’s green-gloved hat as he pulled her closer. Snape slipped on the silk and reached in carefully, then unbuttoned Harry’s green-gloved hat. He looked Harry in the eyes and stroked her crown lightly before pushing on the seam of the hat to attach it. He finished on the front of Harry’s hat with a snap. With a light flourish he tied an extra strand of fabric, then another twist of silk, then another twist of silk.
HAT3000’s terrible crochet-themed erotica was even sometimes crochetable.
Tumblr media
HAT3000 would sometimes turn its story prompts into things that were not crochet patterns exactly, but something strangely akin. Confrontations would turn into tightly choreographed fight scenes, the combatants weaving around and around each other. Villagers would build earthworks, walls, and moats in concentric circles. Recipes would turn into round cakes with dozens of stacked layers. Spaceships and adventuring heroes would follow complex and highly detailed routes. The trained model must have been able to draw some sort of connection between these various domains.
What have I learned from HAT3000? Like SkyKnit, it shows what unexpectedness happens when a neural net trainer, armed with approximately zero knowledge of a particular problem, nevertheless plows ahead and throws a neural net at it anyways. And like its knitting counterpart, HAT3000 owes its entire success to the creativity of human artists who took its often nonsensical patterns, fixed the bugs, and turned them into physical artifacts. I’d like to extend a huge thanks to the knitters and crocheters who sacrificed time, sanity, and yarn to satisfy the whims of these very weird AIs.
You can join the conversation, and crochet along, at the HAT3000 LSG thread (if you register first and don’t mind the swearing). There’s also a twitter thread that collects most of the patterns and many of the crocheted examples. There’s a big generated set of patterns here.
Subscribers get bonus content: I generated far more HAT3000 responses to story prompts than would fit in this post, but I picked some of my favorites to highlight as bonus material. I think they’re fascinating. If you have ever dreamt of a crossover between Star Wars/Harry Potter fan fiction and crochet, well YOU ARE IN LUCK.
You can order my book You Look Like a Thing and I Love You! It’s out November 5 2019.

WARNINGS: maybe some swearing, military slang, spelling and grammatical errors. Could be very OOC/AU for some. Carrillo might not be cannon accurate for some as this is an AU. Flippy, floppy point of views (if it can be called that?), some oc x Army!oc
AUTHORS NOTE:  hopefully y'all enjoy this chapter, sorry for the high amount of OC on OC content in this chapter, also i was writing this late at night so its probably a lil disjointed, but ah, yeah you’ll see why soon. More of the Colonel is this chapter, finally, but yeah. enjoy!

It seemed wishful thinking really did not pay off for Cadet Greyson, the next two days of training went by without so much of a sighting of the Colonel, who at this point, was still nameless to her and her fellow cadets. Maybe he hadn't seen someone worth his while within the current platoon and had instead decided to leave for the main base to find a more adequate soldier. Greyson dismissed that thought as quickly as it came. Surely he would want a fresh little soldier to mold into his perfect team member, why else would he be sniffing round the training grounds if not for that reason. But as it seemed, no one other than herself had seen the Colonel around. So maybe he was really just a figment of her imagination then.
Pffft, as if, you can’t make THAT man up. He is pure sin of the utmost devine kind  Greyson giggled quietly to herself. She had definitely gone mad from the deathly amount of exhaustion they had faced since the assessment day.  That or maybe I hit my head when I fell from that stupid wall.  Again she giggled to herself. Nope , definitely gone mad.
Another thing that struck her as odd was that she hadn’t seen  LT. Colonel Sinclair since their less than professional interactions two days ago. Hopefully he finally came to his senses and decided she wasn't worth the effort and that her rank was far below anything worthy of his attention. For some reason though, that thought struck a cord inside of her, one that frightened her. She was in over her head with this guy, way over her head and rank. Even if he was drop dead gorgeous.  Definitely not as attractive as a certain handsome Colonel.  A little inside voice reminded her. God, that was the last thing she needed, falling for a guy with an even higher rank, if she wasn’t frowned upon already she definitely would be then.
Shaking the idea from her mind, she stood up and continued packing up her kit. The company was to head back to the training base today. A welcome thought for all the recruits within the area. The thought of sleeping on a bed that wasn’t below zero temperature to the touch and fully functioning warm showers seemed to be pushing them to move faster and more fluidly as a team than ever before. There is never a more motivated team than a team that has a single goal in common . Sometimes she hated her father but she never knew that saying to be more true than it was now.
It took the recruits approximately thirty minutes to have the campsite return to the pristine state it was before they laid camp only four days earlier, despite the fact said week had felt like a month long mission.  Despite all the recruits being overworked and their patience stretched thin with each other, all of the thirty recruits had passed their final assessment week, which would mean all of them would graduate together. An accomplishment for all and a first for a company of this size.  Yet, it was obvious from an outsider looking in, that this company was definitely not a team of thirty like they should be. The distinct scores between the top three recruits and the rest had seemingly made the company into two teams. The twenty seven cadets who had done enough to pass, and the three cadets who had excelled beyond all expectations in every single area of the training. The elite cadets of the company some might say.
The next few hours flew by for the cadets, a long bus ride back to base, stowing away their kit and polishing boots to get their rig from exercise standard back  to office standard. Rumors' had been passed around that tonight there was to be a big meeting for the cadets to attend. There was a palpable excitement coursing through the mess as everyone tried to guess what the meeting was about, many speculated that they would be introduced to the Colonel, while others thought it was a congratulations for completing their assessment week. Although, it was safe to say, that many of the recruits were hoping for the former of the two, and maybe if that happened one of them would be formally offered a spot on the Colonel’s intel squad.
Without even knowing the name of the Colonel there was already a bet running between the female cadets about the attractiveness of the foreign officer. Some girls bet that he was going old and undesirable due to his rank,  while others bet he was a “young stud”. Greyson had kept her thoughts to herself but would often scoff at the descriptions the girls came up with, not one of them was even getting close to what the Colonel looked like, which instilled a strange sense of pride within the cadet. But also a high level of confusion as not a single recruit in the platoon had ever mentioned seeing an unknown officer with the instructors a mere two days ago.
As the evening progressed the recruits waited for an announcement to be made over the speakers for them to move to the scran hall or into the common area for the meeting. By eight o’clock the recruits finally heard the speakers crack to live, waking most of them from an evening of well deserved rest. The recruits followed the instructions given to them and made haste towards the common area a short march away from their barracks. Upon arriving, dismissing and gathering in the space many recruits seemed to deflate at the lack of an unfamiliar face.
“Good evening cadets, as you know there is a Columbian Colonel on base observing the ins and outs of some squadrons so he can choose a select few members from different corps so join his intelligence team. Over the past week he was in and out of the training grounds observing most of you knowing. By the end of your longest day he had made a tough decision between two of the cadets sitting in this room, along with choosing your squadron leader, Lieutenant O’Connor here to be a part of his squad. In saying that, the colonel is yet to inform us of which cadet sitting in this room is the lucky new member of his squad. I shall take it upon myself, as the commander of the unit, to inform you as soon as I know” LT. Colonel Sinclair’s speech seemed to drone on for most of the cadets in the room. They were tired, beyond so, and were just wishing he would allow them to leave as soon as possible, but as it seemed, he wasn’t finished yet.
“I will be taking time this coming week to pull each of you into my office to discuss your future in the force and what corps you are now eligible to join due to your overall scores gained from the past twenty weeks of your training. Once you have all been assigned to a core you shall receive your patches and berets and be formally welcomed into your chosen field before you graduate. The last week of training will consist of core introductions and briefs and finalization of drill before your graduation day. I will offer you all a very big congratulations for making it through training and wish you all the best for your futures in the force. You are dismissed”
At the dismissal most of the cadets all but jumped from their chairs, having been given no more orders for the night it was to be a peaceful night ahead. And many of them would be heading straight to the barracks for sleep.  Greyson began to make her way from the room following slightly behind her fellow classmates only to be stopped by the LT. Colonel calling out to her. Stopping abruptly at the order she turned around and walked back towards him, the whole time wondering if this was gonna be another one of his ‘teasing moments’.
“Sir, not to overstep but I would like to get back to the barracks and back to my pit before I drop on my feet” Greyson said kindly to make it very clear to the LT. Colonel in front of her that she was suggesting and definitely not ordering him around, that was the last thing she wanted to do.
“This will only take a moment Greyson, I assure you that...” the LT Colonel trailed off, waiting for his subordinate to acknowledge, before continuing on, “I wanted to congratulate you personally on you achievements over the cadets course, you have set multiple records with the scores you have obtained and I wanted to let you know that you are the top recruit from your intake”
Shifting on her feet awkwardly Greyson nodded in thanks, silently acknowledging her own achievements and also trying to stay awake for the conversation. The LT. Colonel took a step closer to her, again entirely to close from a professional standpoint, and placed his hand on her shoulder, steady and firm, making her whole body tense up at the initial contact before she subtly, or so she thought, relaxed far too much under his touch. She had, after all, had no contact from anyone since joining the army, as was protocol, but it had left her touch starved, and in her tired state, far too ready to throw rank out the window and do something that broke far too many rules.
The LT. Colonel noticed the way she relaxed under his touch and decided to push the boundary a little further bringing the cadet in front of him into a tight hug, to which she returned all too eagerly. While absorbed in each other's embrace they failed to notice one of the other cadets, Cadet Lewis, watching from the door. Lewis was Greyson’s roommate and had stayed behind when she noticed she wasn’t behind her like she should have been.
Greyson sank into the embrace, although knowing that this was highly against almost all rules put in place she couldn’t bring herself to care. Yes he was her commanding officer, and yes she was but a lowly cadet, but in that moment wrapped within his strong arms and snuggled closely into her chest, she had never felt more relaxed. She let out one long shaky breath, one that he definitely felt, and pulled away from him. She needed to keep the relationship professional till she graduated, and probably even after then, god knows her father wouldn't want her to disgrace his name.
As she pulled away from his warm embrace she dared a glance up, there was a look of what almost seemed like longing and affection in the eyes of the man before her, and a look of want, the emotions she found in his intense brown eyes made her shiver. She watched as his eyes glanced down towards her lips, then slowly back up to her eyes as his tongue darted out to lick his lips. Shamefully her own eyes were then transfixed on his mouth, and for a small moment, she pushed the thoughts of rank out the window as his head dipped down and his lips captured hers in a bruising kiss. The shock that came from the kiss had her gasping into his mouth, giving him the perfect opportunity to tangle his tongue with hers, she felt his hands start to wander down her back, and further still to her ass. The shock of this seemed to finally bring her to her sense, cause not a second later she was pushing him away and taking a few steps back for good measure.
Standing there staring at the LT Colonel, chest heaving in time with his, sheer horror overcame her sense. What had she just done? Wiping a hand down her face to clear her thoughts she knew she needed to end this before it started, even if the kiss was better than nay she had had.
“Sir, I..” Greyson trailed off, she was struggling to find the right words for the situation, she didn’t want to reject him in a harsh way, or reject him at all if she was being totally honest with herself, but she knew this was the only thing that would save her career from being a shit-fight. “I’m sorry Sir, I can’t do this, I’m sorry” and with those final words she dismissed herself and promptly left the room for the safety of her barracks. In her rush to get away from an awkward moment, she failed to notice the  LT. Colonel’s face fell and the way he had to refrain himself from reaching out to touch her.
Breathing heavily and overcome with emotion, Cadet Greyson finally made it back to her barracks, a room she shared with but one other cadet, the luxury of being an officer in training. To her shock her roommate, Cadet Lewis, was still awake, and by the looks of it, she had been waiting for her to get back.
“So, you're fucking the LT Colonel right? That's how you've made it to the top of the points board” Cadet Lewis hissed at her
“I... what the fuck are you talking about Lewis, I earnt my place on that board by beating the rest of you lazy fucks in the events fair and square. And what the fuck do you mean, fucking the LT. Colonel, what gives you that idea?!” In her already distressed state Greyson was finding it hard to process the accusation thrown at her by the cadet in front of her.
“Oh fuck off Greyson, don’t play dumb with me. All the cadets see the way he looks at you and how he treats you differently from the rest of us! And don't act like you weren’t just smooching up to him in the common room, I saw it all”
Greyson felt sick to her stomach, if Lewis had seen it all she could have just lost the right to be here if she decided to run her mouth. She forced herself to turn around before muttering, “I don’t know what you’re talking about Lewis”
Lewis just scoffed, “yeah right, what you think you are exempt from the rules because your daddy was in the force too? Fuck right off Greyson, you’ve got another thing coming if you think you’re gonna get away with this”
Greyson felt her stomach flip, god, the stupid cadet behind her really just pulled that card. She knew she came from an army background but she definitely was not sleeping her way to the top, no matter what the other cadets thought. But at the mention of her father, the sickness turned to anger and she rounded on Cadet Lewis, giving her the harshest glare she could muster, lips curled up in a snarl and a finger pointed in the direction of the other recruit she growled out, “You bring my fucking father into the mess that you’ve made up in that thick skull of yours and I’ll use my name to my advantage. I’m sure your family would love you to return home with Dishonorable discharge plastered all over your report, wouldn’t they?”
Greyson had to to hold back her smirk when she noticed the way the other cadet clammed up and how her face fell. Yeah that's right, bring my father into this and I’ll use it to my advantage you useless trash. And without so much as another word Greyson walked out of the room, slamming the door to their room for emphasis. She was sure almost all the recruits in the block had heard what had just transpired but she honestly couldn’t care less. She made her way out of the barracks building and towards the gym, she needed to get the tension out of her muscles and a workout would be the easiest outlet.
In her haste and far too deep within her own thoughts, Greyson failed to lift her head to see where she was going, and as she rounded the final corner that led to the gym she came to an abrupt halt, slamming into a wall, or at least that's what it felt like. It wasn't until a pair of strong hands moved to steady her did she realize she hadn’t in fact run into a wall at all, just the widest chest she’d ever felt the pleasure of being this close too. She presumed it was one of the infantry boys, they were usually in the gym this late so it would make sense. Except, as far as she knew, none of the boys had the last name  Carrillo.

OF COURSE, SERVER-BASED APPLICATIONS
The cat had died at the vet's office. The 5 regrets paint a portrait of post-industrial man, who shrinks himself into a shape that fits his circumstances, then turns dutifully till he stops. Thanks to Trevor Blackwell, Jessica Livingston, Robert Morris, Peter Norvig, Lisa Randall, Emmett Shear, Sergei Tsarev, and Stephen Wolfram for reading drafts of this. Time after time, something that seemed a small and uninteresting area—experimental error, even—turns out, when examined up close, to have a mortgage, since that would have meant I had a 3 year old. I'd see something as I was walking down the street on trash night beware of anything you find yourself describing as perfectly good, or I'd find something in almost new condition for a tenth its retail price and what I paid for it. They continue to improve the odds. When you use a technique called functional programming.1 The valuation reflects nothing more than filling out a brief form the briefer the better. But the lawyers don't have to create the most wealth, the way to do this.2 This sort of lie is one of the main things we help startups with, we're in a good position to notice trends in investing. We both had roughly zero assets.3
One of the most ad hoc parts of any system. If they have good ideas, use them, but by the end of it they had built a real, working store. This usually requires two different kinds of lying: the first is to tell the reader something he didn't already know. Our two junior team members were enthusiastic. A rounds creep inexorably downward.4 Some of your classmates are probably going to be an Olympic swimmer you need a window of several years to get it.5 Which means the first VC to break ranks and start to do series A rounds that started from the amount the company needed to raise and let the percentage acquired vary with the market, instead of only in the most hospitable environments.6 The reasons parents don't want their teenage kids having sex is that they flake.

Kurisu Makise
Tumblr media
INTP
Functional order: Ti - Ne - Si - Fe
Spoiler warning
This article will cover Kurisu’s analysis with precise reference to the plot. Also, please note that:
this article only refers to the anime adaptation of S;G, as none of us mods has still played the visual novel.
this article only refers to Stein’s;Gate classic, as only ENFP mod have seen the movies and the Zero. If you have further comments or want to discuss about it, leave a comment or contact us!
Judging Functional Axis
Introverted Thinking (Ti) / Extroverted Feeling (Fe)
First and foremost, Kurisu is rational. She analyzes everything she sees, never satisfied with superficial explanations but always looking for the pieces of the puzzle and the rules that support the structure. She needs her own framework to work with, highly values a methodical approach and takes pride in her logic- to the point that she refuses to accept something that ‘doesn’t make sense’ even if everything around her proves otherwise. Kurisu strongly rejects even the possibility that time-travel could be real, at first, because logically that doesn’t fit with either her system or all the soundest scientific theories. The cell phone–operated microwave Okabe got to build has been created by pure experimentation, following a trial-and-error, more casual approach, rather than a structured one - so Kurisu’s first reaction at witnessing bananas turned into a jelly is to run away, because such a thing shouldn’t be possible, it’s not logical that it’s possible. But, when she accepts that a time-traveling microwave does in fact exist, she grabs a marker and writes everything down on a whiteboard to better understand how it works. Only after she’s clarified the rules and the theory behind the machine, she’s able to proceed with the next step: improving it.
Kurisu’s strong Ti is counterbalanced by her inferior Fe. She can lecture an entire class about her articles and discuss quantum physics, but she doesn’t fit well around too many people in social circumstances and is overall quite awkward when it comes to interacting with others. She’s in denial of her feelings most of the time, regarding Okabe but not limited to him. She hates getting emotional and overall finds emotions to be a burden. Nonetheless, her Fe can be easily spotted in her working overall well with the other lab members. She admits to enjoy the lively atmosphere (in opposition to her previous workplace) and the “round tables” summoned by Okabe. Her Ti makes her stubborn and honest when speaking, but she doesn’t like conflict and prefers when everyone works together and in harmony - as she states more than once to both Mayuri and Suzuha, as the second clearly dislikes her.
Perceiving Functional Axis
Extroverted Intuition (Ne) / Introverted Sensing (Si)
Her Ti paired with her Ne is what defines her character as ‘being a genius’: she’s not afraid of asking questions, and tries to look at things from a different perspective and to consider various options. She’s not only generally curious, but also knowledgeable about many topics, from neuroscience to physics - and she puts all her knowledge at work to improve Okabe’s creation, literally mixing notions from the most various fields to create the Time-Leap Machine.
She enjoys discussions and doesn’t back off from confuting theories and abstractions, and this enables her to be more open to Okabe’s unmethodical experiments and to accept that time traveling is indeed possible. Her aux-Ne, paired with Ti and Si, also makes her extremely cautious before taking action: if Okabe leaps into things without further thinking, Kurisu is the exact opposite. She has to think about what to do first, and has to ponder all the viable options to better judge what is the most logical course of action (Ti-Ne).
Her Si, although tertiary, shows in her tides with her past and in the general value that Kurisu confers to past experience: as she states at around episode 20, it’s one’s past and mistakes that define who a person is. This also affects her method, as she usually proceeds in little steps (compared to Okabe, who tends to be ‘all or nothing’), does continuous comparisons between things, theories and experiences (Ne-Si) and tends to avoid risks when it’s not necessary.
Also typed as: INTJ
This is the most common mistype about Kurisu - someone opts for ISTJ as well, but looking around on the internet, INTJ is the one you’ll probably find.
Our article is of course not the universal truth, but we are confident in typing Kurisu as INTP. Here’s why (in addition to the previous analysis):
Ni, especially if dominant, is not only about the future, but is also about the intrinsic meaning of things, the most general patterns and symbols. It’s a highly abstract, subjective introverted function that searches for what a certain thing means to it, rather than how something works. Here’s the key difference between Ni and Ti: if Ni sees a computer, it looks for a way to interpret said computer, it sees how the computer can fit in Ni’s own subjective framework. If Ti sees a computer, on contrary, it tries to understand how it works, what are its components and how they’re connected, so that Ti can form its knowledge about computers and build up its own with the pieces it finds around in the world.
Kurisu doesn’t has Te. Te looks for facts, objective logic and proven truths - Kurisu isn’t like that and it shows starting from the very first episodes, when she runs away from the lab. If Te is provided with the proof that something can happen before its own eyes, it tends to believe it, because it’s in the real world. If you can do it, then it’s doable - Te logic. Kurisu on contrary is still skeptic even when she accepts to stay in the lab: all her doubts crumble only when she has all the information she needs, and she can complete the theory behind D-Mails and time traveling. Only after she thought about the pieces and formed her own theory she is confident in assessing that time travel is possible and how to do it.
Consequently, she isn’t a Se user but, most of all, she isn’t a Fi user: her self-awareness isn’t very high, and she often questions herself about her identity as a person and as a scientist. She doesn’t show signs of Fi, but definitely shows many signs of inferior-Fe.
Regarding the ISTJ typing, the Te/Fi point is still valid, plus: Kurisu certainly has Si, but it isn’t that high. She is overall versatile, open and not too rigid on her opinion. It’s not that ISTJ cannot change their mind, but it takes them time, effort and a good amount of solid reasons. Kurisu’s auxiliary Ne on contrary enables her to confute her flawed logical theories about time traveling so that she can build a new system and proceed with the improvement of the Time-Leap Machine. She can confront changes and unexpected circumstances and doesn’t necessary needs a plan: she can make one up if it’s needed, she only has to think things through and consider various options - TiNe, as we’ve said.
