Top Travel Spots in Florida
Tumblr media
Florida, the Sunshine State, is home to about 20 million people who enjoy 300 days of sunshine annually. However, the state's allure extends beyond its warm days and casual atmosphere. Visitors on vacation and those moving to the state can explore various notable destinations.
Tampa, Florida, offers visitors numerous attractions, activities, and entertainment options. Busch Gardens' theme parks and the opportunity to catch major league sporting events are a few ways to enjoy the city. Nature lovers can experience animal encounters at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, famous for the Dolphin Tale movies. For cultural immersion, Tampa hosts special events like the Pier 60 Sugar Sand Festival (featuring enormous sand sculptures) and the Gasparilla Pirate Festival. The Tampa Bay area is also an arts and culture hotspot with world-class museums, including the Salvador Dali Museum in St. Petersburg.
Well-known beaches in Miami, Panama City, Naples, and Clearwater Beach, among others, attract tourists from across the globe every summer. Their white sandy coastlines and emerald waters are perfect for relaxation, swimming, kayaking, fishing, and boating trips. Numerous beach bars with vibrant nightlife and high-end hotels and restaurants along Florida's coasts and resort towns provide world-class dining choices, including ocean-fresh seafood.
Fort Lauderdale, also a beach town, has a vibrant culture, tropical weather, and beautiful gardens. Intimate natural settings like Hugh Taylor Birch State Park and Bonnet House Museum & Gardens offer couples idyllic strolling paths. The Flamingo Gardens Wildlife Sanctuary is also a tourist magnet with its over 3,000 animals and plant species. Ft. Lauderdale is also known for its network of canals along the coast, where visitors can enjoy gondola rides.
A hidden gem previously under the tourism radar is the rural island city of Cedar Key, a popular spot for visitors who enjoy beach excursions, lush greenery, and wildlife. This small culturally rich enclave invites guests to tours through Manatee Springs State Park, the Cedar Key Historical Society & Museum, and Cedar Key Museum State Park for a close encounter with animals and to learn about the area's history.
Everglades Park is the state's best known national park. With 1.5 million acres, it is the nation's most extensive subtropical wilderness, home to а unique and diverse ecosystem. Among the creatures inhabiting the park and its mangrove swamps and coastlines are alligators and Florida panthers. Visitors can take an airboat tour to observe wildlife, and can also hike the park's many trails.
Another famous attraction is Cape Canaveral. Commonly referred to as the "Space Coast," this place features the Kennedy Space Center facility, from which some of the most significant missions in history, such as the Apollo moon landings, were launched. The Space Center offers tours around the facility, where space shuttles and rockets can be seen up close. On launch days, visitors can watch the rockets blast off from the visitor complex. Cape Canaveral also features the Cape Canaveral Space Force Museum.
Florida is also widely recognized as a home to superstars. Jupiter, a high-profile town in Florida's Martin County, is home to Greg Norman and Tiger Woods, while soccer superstar Lionel Messi lives in Fort Lauderdale. Cementing its status as the nation's golfing capital, Florida has more than 1,300 golf courses, the most of any state. Year-round, celebrities and fans alike flock to the state to golf and explore the World Golf Hall of Fame in St. Augustine.

How to Get the Best out of Your Vacation in St. John?
Tumblr media
One of the three islands in US Virgin Island St. John, St. Croix, and St. Martin, St. John is the smallest but doesn’t let this fool you. St. John is an outdoor adventurer’s mecca in the Caribbean offering a wide range of water and land heart-pumping activities. Visitors love coming to St. John for its crystal-blue sea and white sandy beaches, which are perfectly picturesque.
The history is somewhat obscure, with relics and old petroglyphs buried in the valleys and rocky ponds. The tiny towns on the island have a cheerful mood, and you may experience a Caribbean way of life without scarcity of bars and restaurants. If you’re thinking about an option to accommodate, you should definitely consider Fully Equipped Villa Rentals St. John USVI. They offer a great view with a secluded and private experience.
Virgin Islands National Park, an undervalued national park that covers two-thirds of the island and a large part of the environment's water, is the primary attraction on the island. The park has several historical monuments, including old petroglyphs and plantation ruins, which formerly were prevalent all across the island.
The park is packed with beautiful beaches and epic walking routes along with iconic historical monuments. The National Park Service keeps trails and beaches clean and accessible to all visitors throughout the park. National Park of Virgin Islands is also host to many rangers, such as guided tours and birches.
Trunk Bay is one of the world's most stunning beaches, one of the most popular St. John beaches. It has an underwater snorkeling path of 225 yards. Plaques below the sea describe the different coral species.
There is a bathroom, snack bar, store for souvenirs, and snorkeling equipment. Duty protectors are on duty every day. A modest admission fee is applicable. You may take the red hook boat and take the cab or bus to Trunk Bay if you are on St Thomas. For the comfortable accommodations of tourists, Villas for Rent in St. John Virgin Island are available at the very best prices.

Too Old ... Moray III
Tumblr media
[ Prior Chapter ]
The tinny, silver bell aloft of the pub’s door jingled as Moray entered.
A plump young woman sat behind the counter nearby. She looked up from her paperback as he came inside, the first golden shavings of dawn following him. Her voice was prickled with a tease, thumb resting on the page of her novel to keep her place, “... Fancied a wee morning swim, did we?”
Moray was soaking wet.
The water from Stormwind’s harbour still swelled his form, clothes and particularly his boots riddled with the briny fluid. If the sensation was ill-comfort, the odor was worse. While he had not sustained any injuries himself the prior evening -- prior being only hours past at most -- he did still endure quite a sweat. A mariner’s pungent, personal odor of effort combined with the spume of so boisterous and busy a harbour as Stormwind’s own?
It was no gardenia or rose blossom, that was for sure.
But it had been necessary to take the long -- long -- way around. After he was forced to abscond from the scene of his would-be pirate massacre, there was a flurry of attention to the harbour from the Stormwind Guard. He could not blame them, in truth. It was quite literally their job, and he had quite literally murdered two men and rendered the rest unconscious. Well, he and the Tidemother. While he was not a man of great providence in legality -- at least those legalities of such merit that were not so forthright as maritime law -- he could presume that ‘the Tidemother’ was not going to be listed as an accomplice, nor sought out with warrant.
He shouldered the blame. Despite being quite assured of the moral excellence of his actions, he knew that the legal system of the lands of Wrynn would not look so kindly.
So, he took the long way around. After determining that his gnomecorder was shot, swollen with the ichorous waters of the harbour, Moray had hid within the underbrush of the wee beach head he swam to. It was not comfortable. Especially not given the chilly Spring evening and his entire self being soaked to the bone. But he had to wait out the worst of the patroller’s bells and lanterns.
And so he waited.
And waited.
… And waited.
It took until nearly the first warm tones of sky to mark the false dawn that whatever investigation was underway had concluded. At least, concluded enough for him to be able to swim around the southern dockheads and make his way up -- surrepetitiously -- to the pub wherein he was staying.
The Modern Ox Pub & Tavernhouse.
Moray looked down to his soaking wet body and the mild puddling of seawater that his boots issued forth. A low, lung-worn sigh escaped him. “It would appear so, ma’am,” he spoke simply, looking up to give a tight-cheeked smile to the young woman running the front counter of the pub. She looked as if she was fighting to hold back the at-his-expense smile and laughter clearly bubbling from his ridiculous appearance.
He did not blame her.
“Uh-huh. Well nobody else is up, as you can see,” she informed with a wave of her free hand. The pub was distinctly empty. Not quite an uncommon state considering it must have been just before six in the morning. “-- nobody is up yet. May want to grab one of the tubs now before the hangovers start to run hot and everybody comes clamoring down for beer and bathwater.” The young woman spoke with a humor to her voice, a sort of lilt that -- perhaps once upon a time -- Moray would have found quite endearing, cute even.
But he was aching, soaked, tired and laden with a purposeful mind.
In reply, he merely gave a grunt of appreciation, nodding to the woman once. She arched a brow, but returned to her paperback as he began to slog past, leaving a trail of seawater across the floor of the pub. While he made his path along the well-worn, shiny wooden floor she spoke up again, “-- And it’s Amelia, not ‘ma’am’. I’m not that old and I’m not even married.”
Moray paused in his step, halfway across the empty pub with all it’s chairs upended on the numerous tables. Fine, aged wooden fractures of carpentry that spoke to an older styling of local house and tavern. He inhaled, head a bit spun from exertion and a lack of sleep.
“Amelia, right,” he replied quite flaccidly, turning back and continuing on to the bathrooms.
The Modern Ox Pub & Tavernhouse was an old, old institution.
A charming, wood and brass sort of public house that had withstood the test of time in Stormwind proper. It had exist for years before even the First War, a worn old symbol of alehouse antiquity for men and women of the working class to gather, drink, and discuss the troubles of the world. It bordered the Park District, laid along the canals through a small, blink-and-you-would-miss-it brass studded door. Famously, or infamously depending on if you were an irritated, new postal officer, the pub had no sign. Simply an old, well loved door that served as aperture to something of a time capsule.
When the Orcish Horde razed Stormwind and left nearly the entire city to crumble, the Ox died with it. Yet amidst the ruined stone and scorched landscape, two things survived: the original brass-topped bar counter, and the ancient wooden floors. Both were relics, craft of old Elwynn heartwood and Goldshire foundry metal. The floor was shit, in truth. It was warped in every fashion that could be. The old joke, even before the Cataclysm and the destruction of the nearby Park District, was that the floors were so fucked that everyone walked drunk even before their first pint.
After the construction of the greater Stormwind Harbour, the Ox ended up sandwiched in quite a unique position between the Park and the massive expanse of the harbour wall. Situated in a perfect little side-avenue, it retained its historical precedent and went, largely, untouched. Even when Deathwing himself came and assigned annihilation to the Park, the Ox was untouched. A proper piece of history for the Kingdom of Stormwind.
Moray had always liked the Ox. It was sturdy, smelled of old smoke, wood and good spirits. The notion of the locale had touched him, even as a man of Kul Tiras and her proper, emerald Isle. There was a beauty to the Ox and the providence it held, the perfect middling between old bones and new company. Not to mention it was one of the few places beyond the Isle where he had found a decent pint of grog with lime. Now, he really drank it for the flavor rather than the liquor. The old mariner did not really care for drunkenness. The few times he did indulge in a bout of liver abuse, he had tendency to take the expressway: goblin rocket fuel.
But such meanderings of thought were neither here, nor there. And Moray shook his head as he came into the bathing rooms of the Ox. Cleanse, return to room upstairs, regroup. That was as clear and simple a plan as could be imagined, and he engaged it with whole-heart.
Since he was fully, patently alone in the bathing room of the pub -- a large room reached by corridor past the bar and past the actual lavatories -- he found no cause to take a curtained wash tub. Indeed, he was too tired to even consider modesty. He simply began peeling off his sodden clothing with a ‘schhhlk!’. Profound as his form was, it took some grunting and maneuvering to finally achieve nudity.
Now, the plumbing of the Ox was not what one would consider ‘new’. It howled, screeched, gurgled and moaned after Moray twist the hot water knob. As he wait for the warm, clean water to begin to fill one of the washing tubs, bare ass facing the entry to the bathing room, he mentally reorganized.
What did he know?
The Red Fleet, the horrid conglomerate of faithful, devout pirates who sailed for their ‘Lord’, Abbidas Bonnet, had burned Birch Bay to the ground. The island and its eponymous harbour bay had been the place of berth for he and his Captain, Abighail Atwater. She helmed the Dancing Dolphin, and he stood beside as her First Mate, underneath and by command of the Anchor Trading Company …
The water finally began to pour, a whistling deluge that made the awkward, ill-fitted pipe hover above the tub to wobble to and fro from the pressure. He passed the back of one hand under it to test the temperature -- good. It was hot today. One could never be sure at the Ox.
Captain Atwater had ordered a retreat from Birch Bay while the crew were on shore leave. She had gone back to the burning city to try and rescue the missing crew members that were presumably captured -- or dead. She succeeded. He had gone to rescue her and acted in such brazen fashion that left him swinging his boarding axe at pirate skulls in the midst of the town square. There was a bonfire of .. corpses? Corpses and spent wood and --
Moray hissed as the water steamed, eliciting a pain from his hand. He grunt and twist the knob back a few inches in adjustment. The tub continued to fill.
Atop a horse, a damn brave mare from the outskirts stables of the city, he had lunged into the town square seeking his Captain. He found her, helped hoist her aboard the would-be warhorse and helped fend off the swarming pirates so they could make their escape. As they began to gallop away, he felt …
Something. A whisper of a memory of pain and heat in his chest, like a bad dream you were unable to forget. Something that had not happened, yet you could have sworn it had.
Only later did he learn from his Captain that he had died.
With the tub finally full of hot water -- but not too scorching -- he stepped inside. The volume of his person was extensive, and some water ‘slosh!’ed out of the washing tub as he sunk into the comfort of it. A low, belly-full and earnest groan of satisfaction left his salt-laced lungs.
He had died.
The Reverend -- or so the devout of the Red Fleet called him, second in command only to Abbidas himself -- Norric Hayhurst, burned him alive. The foul, portly and sunken man had stood at the helm of the great corpsefire, commanding the rapacious invaders. Apparently, in some branching pathway of the great Travel, the Reverend had seen fit to burn him alive with a holy fire. Moray had, as he was later told, gone up like kindling from the inside out, still riding the horse as he tried to ferry his Captain to safety outside the city.
But Captain Atwater had … moved the pieces around.
With some power of sorcery that was beyond his measured mind to understand, she had gone back through the expanse of the Travel and changed events. Done … something … to leave things as they had been but with the lacking of his demise.
And so he had lived, and so there he was, worn and aching and alive in a washing tub in the back of the Modern Ox Pub & Tavernhouse, having so recently worked to play folly to the men who called the Reverend their leader.
He did consider using the soap that was hung from a rope by the washing tub. But --
A grimace ate up his face, even as he felt such comfort and contentment from the hot water. The soap was fucking disgusting. Just because he was a sailor, a navyman by trade and profession for decades, did not mean he had no appreciation of personal hygiene. No, communal soap was not his destiny. Time had been worked to manifest his continued existence. To disparage such effort with hairy, publicly shared soap would be a great disgrace.
So, he rose from the pleasure of the hot bath and stepped out, dripping wet and nude, to walk down the toiletries closet. To those patrons of the ‘tavern’ portion of the Ox, there was a certain allotment of towels, soaps, napkins and other mild services. He sought out a fresh bar of soap.
They had escaped the burning of Birch Bay.
It had been a venture by the skin of their collective teeth -- in no small part due to the actions of Captain Atwater, quite literally in his own case -- but they survived. Only a few of the crew were lost, and so confirmed as such. Otherwise he had no doubt that the Captain would have gone back into that burning, ruined and plundered harbour city for even the chance of saving one more.
But they escaped. Losing the pirate’s chase in the foothills and then the forests of the island beyond the city, they regrouped with the shivering, terrified green-gill crew. To their credit, they had done as ordered and absconded immediately. No doubt it saved them all, fresh recruits to the Company as they were. And at least then they could say with truth that they had survived an attack from the otherwise mythical Red Fleet.
The Captain tore open a portal for them to Boralus, and so on carried the Travel.
Fresh soap seemed almost to be a pipe-dream. Moray’s chest sank, and he almost was ready to give up the search in the rather well-worn toiletries closet, bending over to unceremoniously present his backside to the large, empty room. But! Far at the back of the closet, hidden behind a trio of folded hand towels, there was a fresh bar still wrapped in butcher’s paper. He retrieved it, turned his eyes toward the sea and mouthed a short, ‘thanks, Mom’.
After Birch Bay came Hag Bay.
The Dolphin and her crew seemed to have poor luck with Bays of any kind, at least as such as were named to effect. Whereas Birch Bay had been -- had, being operative, considering -- a rather profitable mercantile port city, Hag Bay was a more open, neutral and in some ways ramshackle freewater port. But supplies were supplies, port was port, and for all its pomp Hag Bay was normally a rather calm place to lay anchor.
After anchoring off and a bit away from the razor-sharp reefs that made the Bay so hard to reach by common craft -- indeed, Hag Bay’s harbour was primarily staffed by tugboats, tiny sloops or rowboats -- the Captain went ashore. The rest of the crew had some sense of desire to shore leave, but there was not a great deal of shore to the Hag and -- in truth -- it was best time reserved for a port less likely to result in fisticuffs, gambling, or pregnancy.
Padding his sizable, wet feet back toward his washing tub, Moray began to hum a small tune. It was a memorable one for himself, as it set to recollection good memories of his time as a merchant mariner. Times before life became quite so … unique.
The marauders of the Red Fleet came for them in the night. With Captain Atwater ashore and the remainder of the crew mostly on board the Dolphin, the pirates snuck aboard. In retrospect, it seemed as if they quite literally scaled the anchor chain. A bold move, something more out of a paperback, pulp novel than reality. But when you possessed the kind of willpower and devoted action that the devout of the Red Lord did …
They sacked most of the crew, bludgeoning and sapping. But Moray had put up a fight, a proper one. The rest of the young lads and girls were green. A screaming, pyromantic pirate with sharp steel or a heavy cudgel was cause to howl and cry for mercy, if not simply flee. But Moray? He was disinterested in discussion nor in surrender. He fought to the nail.
A small smile began to eat his face as he sunk back into the hot water. He took four or five of them at least before they managed to stop him.
But they did stop him -- and the Quel’dorei that the Captain had brought aboard as a new crewman and sorcerer. Something silenced the elf’s magic and they nearly disemboweled him right there on the main deck. There was almost nothing Moray could do, simply watching and writhing against the pirates assaulting and apprehending him.
He had a gap in his memory then, as no doubt they broke his consciousness with a sap to the neck. But he would have preferred to lose it all from then until his return to Boralus far later the same night. What they did to him …
Moray sunk lower into the washing tub, the soap beginning to foam up in his hand as he ran it over his palms and then along his bare shoulders and chest. The water and the bubbling of simple, clean workman’s soap nearly covered the scars that were only just through the first stages of healing -- all across his body.
A trio of windows sat at the far end of the bathing room. They faced outward from the Ox’s footprint, out toward the harbour and lighthouse beyond. A grand view, in truth, especially for such a hideaway, working class tavernhouse. The view had only grown in time as the harbour was built up and the stature of New Stormwind grew.
He still thought of it as New Stormwind. He remembered coming to the reconstructed city to help train fresh, Wrynn-home naval cadets. That was before Kalimdor, though.
Seated deep in the water, merely his head visible above the soapy, foamed up bath’s edge, Moray cleared his throat. A little wobble pushed his chin port and starboard -- thoughts to discard. There was no time for such introspective indulgences. The men of the Reverend were in Stormwind now, and he had to find a way to contact the Captain without his gnomecorder. Not to mention he had to find out just what the fuck they were doing in Stormwind.
The only question was -- which would he handle first?

Mel’s Big Fantasy Place-Name Reference
So I’ve been doing lots of D&D world-building lately and I’ve kind of been putting together lists of words to help inspire new fantasy place names. I figured I’d share. A lot of places are named after historical events, battles, and people, so keep that in mind. God/Goddess names tied to your world also work well. Places are also often named after things that the area is known for, like Georgia being known for its peaches.
My brain was fried by the end of this so feel free to add more!
I hope you find this reference helpful and good luck world-building!

So I Go
I wrote a short story and thought I’d share it with all. Hope you enjoy.
Keller watched the old birch sway in the winter storm. It bent and bent, the young trunk able and strong in the gale winds of an Ontario breath. The wind whipped its lashes, fierce and cruel, beating away and carving in scars. River cold and river sliding cross icy beaches. He latched on to the sill, fingers digging into the wood, aching with temptation and glaciation.
There was a boy too. Not running from the snowflakes crashing down around him, nor was he moving to warmth of fire against frost. The shadow spilled from the birch’s branches, feeding in the night. Face cast in rhythmic calignosity, the boy stared out at the bitten river, ice wreathed eyes glazed with some unknown.
Austin pushed their hands in their coat pocket, the blisteringly shiver-inducing air creeping up their sleeves. It was close to midnight, the clouds a pitch darkness caught in callous fever. They didn’t notice the boy at first as they carefully picked their way past the frigid riverbank. The concrete was slick and their black boots were worn thin.
But there the boy stood, hunched over, back facing Austin. It was something out of a movie, but what genre was left unknown. Hunched shoulders, the vivid imagination left an imprint of winter mornings, alone in a sea of voices and people. It was striking, what they could not see. But the path did not lend Austin time as they hurried home to a furnace and knit blanket.
Levi stretched, arms above her head, out to scrap the walls of her tiny room, before them resting at her sides. The weatherman forecasted another three feet of snow with his bow tie and sweaty eyes. A lecture from her mother had her cross checked into her bedroom for the night without her gaming console. So she sat in darkness, swearing at the weatherman.
And out there, she swore she saw a pair of eyes, glinting across the river between whirlwinds of gusting snow. The river was not wide, but a narrow monster, twisting and rearing back at a moments notice. The eyes glinted under the birch tree, swarmed in fake fur of a winter coat. They rested below Levi, bequeathed in some story she could not know. Levi turned back to her pale green walls and complained.
Jenny and Jacob leaned against the bottled up bar door, the chill of glass seeping into their too thin clothes. They were California born and bred, people of heat and endless summer skies. But a steadfast lining of desire had brought them here. Brother and sister shared the comfort of rap music as skies rained down upon them in shivering streaks.
And there was boy, clothed in colorless binds. Grey and black and white shrunk his form, by the riverfront. Standing. Unmoving. Falling in and out of existence. Jenny whispered the rap music, tongue sharp with vowels and soft consonants. Jacob hesitated, falling out of sound. And back into it, with a harsh crack of youthful ignorance.
Samson, hitherto to be known and referred to as Otherwise. And he muttered to himself, I have all the pieces, I only need put them together. Otherwise sat in his dusty chair, in his dusty office, waiting for something. The big bay windows of the steel edifice hovered over him in a claustrophobic fashion, making the world so big, it turned tiny.
And he did not see. And he did not hear. And the snow muffled the skies and the howls and the vibrato of empty streets. Eyes closed. Eyes lost in a hundred shades of bronze spinning round in tetrahedrons. Geometric shapes, twisting like the river falling. Falling. And Otherwise was alone in an otherwise lonely way.
Maybe the boy had a name. But it wasn’t important. It rang and rang and rang, echoing in the night and solitude. It weakened under the harsh street lamp, fluttering away in the haggard wind. And those who saw, never saw. Those who turned, forgot. And those who looked on, were forgotten. So it goes.
So it goes, repeated the boy, hands clutched around a wearing worn novel struck thin and burdensome. Clutched by hand forth written to bear, inked in black hollows, under the birch tree young and strong. It bent and bent, able and strong, and broke free, bent and bent.
So it goes, said he.
So it goes, said they.
So it goes, said she.
No, the boy said, So I go.

Beach Hotels: Hotels in Fort Myers
Tumblr media
People come to Fort Myers for many reasons, but one of the most popular is to enjoy the beautiful, shell filled beaches. While some visitors are content with one day in the sun, others would like a few nights as well; as in overnights.
It’s a good thing that the beaches are lined with places to land; hotels, motels, resorts and condos. While most are adequate, motel mildew and sandy carpets do exist. 10Best is here to steer you clear of those.
To be certain you’ll be greeted by nice rooms and fantastic service, check out the family friendly Pink Shell Beach Resort and Spa on Fort Myers Beach. Located on a quiet stretch of the island, this full service hotel has exciting water sports, a relaxing spa and everything in between.
The Gullwing Beach Resort is on the opposite end of Fort Myers Beach, offering condominium accommodations so you can save money on dining out.
On the tropical Sanibel Island, Casa Ybel has an old Florida Feel, beautifully maintained grounds and a quiet beach to sing you to sleep and gently wake you up in the morning.
All of these 10Best beach hotels have rooms that are just steps away from the sand.

If your idea of heaven involves sun, cool waters and a gorgeous seaside retreat in Fort Myers Beach, this hotel’s accommodations are just the ticket. A variety of room types and views makes it easy to pick one to match your vacation style. Located on a wide strip of Fort Myers Beach, the sand and water just seem more spectacular here. Enjoy water sports and breathtaking sunsets. Don’t miss lunch and libations at the Tiki Bar (where you’ll also find live music), or a morning shelling expedition on the pristine beach. A friendly staff and guest services provide all you need for the perfect trip.
Recommended for Beach Hotels because: A great location on a wide stretch of Fort Myers Beach and a locally famous tiki bar make this a choice beach destination.

GullWing Resort provides condo-style accommodations facing the beach, with one to three bedrooms and fully equipped kitchens. There are separate living and dining areas, as well as in-room laundry to make you feel just like your at home; except for the phenominal beach front views. Locate on the more serene south end of Estero Island or Fort Myers Beach, the sand seems to be a little whiter here and the water a little more blue. You wont find any kids clubs here but there are Gulf-side swimming pools, tennis courts, gazebos and BBQ areas. If you want laid back, this is the place for you.
Recommended for Beach Hotels because: Offering all of the amenities of being at home, but with a breathtaking view of the Gulf of Mexico and white, sandy beaches.

The Best Western Beach Resort is a great find on Fort Myers Beach. The hotel is on the north side of the island where it tends to be a little quieter. However, the walk to where the beach action begins is a short three blocks. There you will find lots of shops, restaurants, bars and more. The modern rooms have kitchenettes and private balconies overlooking the Gulf of Mexico, great for sunset viewing. There is even a guest cottage if you want more space and privacy. The grounds are always nicely manicured and the outdoor pool is heated for those occasional, chilly mornings. Other resort amenities include complimentary continental breakfast, shuffleboard, BBQ grills and water sports.
Recommended for Beach Hotels because: Located near the heart of Fort Myers Beach, this hotel has good service, nice beachfront rooms and lovely grounds.

Famous for being the site of the American Sand Sculpting Championship competition, the Wyndham Garden also enjoys one of the prettiest stretches of Fort Myers beachfront. The wide beach is a prime spot for national beach volleyball tournaments as well. There is something about this end of Estero Island where you’ll find even more soft, powdery white sand and room to roam. Sunset is a major event, whether enjoyed from the pool bar, the pool or the beach. It’s easy to get to the action at the heart of Fort Myers Beach, simply take a trolley to Times Square. However, you will find you have everything you need at this resort.
Recommended for Beach Hotels because: Found at the more quiet, south end of Fort Myers Beach, this hotel is home to world famous sand sculpting and volleyball tournaments.

Located in the heart of Fort Myers Beach and on the Gulf of Mexico, DiamondHead offers a variety of water sports and fantastic sunset views. In 2013, renovations were completed at the popular Cabana’s Beach Bar & Grille; a new thatch roof, flat-screen TV’s behind the bar and new beach seating, under colorful umbrellas. Shoes are not required to dine here, however, if you want more upscale dining there is Chloes, along with a lounge and piano bar. DiamondHead has numerous activities both on and off the beach; Hermit Crab Races, volleyball and corn hole to name a few. If staring at the waves from the balcony of your well maintained room is not enough relaxation, the hotel has a full service spa to make sure even that last little bit of stress gets left behind.
Recommended for Beach Hotels because: A well maintained hotel in a prime spot on Fort Myers beach, with super dining and great fun.

The Sundial Beach Resort offers an inviting environment in which to relax and soak up the Florida sun. In the middle of Sanibel Island, this longtime favorite for locals and tourists, recently underwent a multi-million dollar renovation project including a new spa, a teppanyaki restaurant, sushi bar and there’s still more to come. Stay in your choice of well appointed condominium suites, with full kitchens, dining and living areas and enough space for the kids to have some privacy too. Not all rooms have direct views of the water so be sure to ask if that is important to your stay. The tiki hut is a fun place to hangout with live music and a refreshing pool to take a dip in.
Recommended for Beach Hotels because: You’ll find beachfront condos with lots of room, a fun tiki hut with live music and lots of family activities here.

Photo courtesy of ‘Tween Waters Island Resort & Spa
An historic Captiva Island property and longtime favorite of multiple generations, Tween Waters Inn and Resort stretches from beach to bay. While the main hotel rooms are quite basic, visitors who want a special room book one of the historic cottages; the Lindbergh cottages being among the most popular. These nostalgic one bedroom accommodations feature screened in lanais, surrounded by sea grapes and native vegetation as well as full kitchens and other amenities. You’ll find it all here; beaches, restaurants, bars, entertainment, tennis courts, a spa, and a pool big enough to accommodate not only the guests but the locals who often arrive by boat to party. The beach is a short stroll across the islands main road, but traffic almost always moves slowly, as driver’s strain to see the blue water and bright white sand.
Recommended for Beach Hotels because: This favorite local resort has a beach view, a bay view and fantastic restaurant. Condo-style rooms offer plenty of space for the entire family.

Found on 23 acres of pristine, beachfront property, this historic resort offers wondrous views of the Gulf of Mexico, with a short walk to the beach. The one and two-bedroom condos give plentiful space and come fully equipped. The Kids Club has daily themes and offers activities such as lizard hunting, sand dollar painting, crafts and games. Typically scheduled in three-hour blocks, this gives plenty of time for the adults to enjoy some quite time or spa services. Sporty vacationers enjoy tennis, basketball, volleyball, croquet and horseshoes. The Thistle Lodge serves fresh seafood in a space once frequented by the likes of Henry Ford and Thomas Edison. Casa Ybel’s beautifully landscaped grounds are slightly off the beaten path, but still a quick bike ride to shopping and nature preserves.
Recommended for Beach Hotels because: A beautifully maintained beach property, with amazing views, great service and lots of space to stretch out, both in the rooms and on the property.

This full-service resort on Fort Myers Beach truly has a little something for everyone with wide beaches, a marina, bike and boat rentals, casual and upscale dining, kids programs and a rejuvenating spa. Among other things, the Pink Shell is famous for it’s giant Octopool, a refreshing water experience for both kids and adults. Sparky’s Kids Kampp provides fun and educational activities for your 4-12 year-olds, like sailing schools, treasure hunts and Xbox games. The Pink Shell offers studios and villas so your family can spread out while at the same time and mom and dad can enjoy some privacy. Perfectly situated on the more quiet end of the touristy Fort Myers Beach, it’s a short trolley ride to the Town Square where people watching is unparalleled and entertainment is plentiful.
Recommended for Beach Hotels because: The beautiful and accomodating Pink Shell is just far enough away from the Fort Myers Beach party scene, yet close enough to join.

This luxurious, beautifully manicured beach-to-bay resort takes up the northernmost two and a half miles of exclusive Captiva Island with varied lodging options that are all fantastic. There are villas facing the Gulf of Mexico offering spectacular sunsets, cottages with nature views, or surrounding the nine-hole golf course, skimmed by the pristine gulf waters. All have ample space and kitchen facilities for family meals. Kids love the ScoutsAbout program; a giant scavenger hunt where they learn about landscape and wildlife on the island. The Sanibel Sea School is a hands on, sea-based education program and there is a family center offering crafts, arcade games and other family activities. The water is always blue and the beaches piled with shells. Once you check in here, you’ll never want to leave.

Simra padded along the dryboards that lined the way townward. Careful feet in two-toed boots, avoiding the worst of the mud. Shoulders bunched tight and back hunched over; hands crammed under his arms and wishing he had gloves.
He’d spent the morning crossing the marshes that middled the island. Burping stands of brackish water and straggles of hardy reeds. Spider-brown mushrooms with heads fronded like blowball flowers; slim-stemmed and tall as birches but flexile, bown one way then the next in the wind. No wading birds. Only sometimes a small slump of rock would move and shuffle through the muck, showing itself not a rock at all but a kind of beetle, tilling the waters for food. Only sometimes searchers out from town and the scatter of cottages across the rest of the island. With their ragged mantles and hoods and their bare black-stained legs, they trod through the waters, carrying lanterns, looking for fish, things in shells, veins of naft. Made Simra colder than he could bear just to look at them, so he tried not to. Just kept to the path through the marshlands, where stocky cairns daubed with white paint marked trails of solid ground.
Now, after the rot-sweet air of the middle marshes, came the smell of the sea. It was thicker here than up on the headland, where the air was too restive with wind to smell of anything much besides cold. With the shore in bowshot he saw it: a swash of glaucous grey, a black middle-distance and bluish horizon. Coursings of white toward the searocks that edged the bay, in waves waist-high and spitting. And Branoristown sat in the bay’s lap. The crags around, the sea beyond, the marshlands at his back — it looked paltry next to all that. Small and pitiful and desperate; an unplanned little foundling of a town.
Simra had seen once, in the fuggy marshlands south of the Deshaan and towards the Blackmarsh border, a colony of things: vermin with clammy rat-sized bodies and thick-tapering tadpole tails and stubby grippy little forelegs. Boneless, they could fit into almost anything you wanted them kept out of. Foodstores most of all. The locals would cull them, boiling water down their burrows and standing by the burrow’s escape tunnel with sticks, cudgels, bills, mattocks. It’d seemed an easy enough way to make coin, standing with them. But when the things teemed out of their colony, fleeing the steam and scald of it, they came in a clambering heaping tide, all trying to claw each over the other. A mudslide, an avalanche, but made of bodies, heaped all on all for space and safety. He’d stood ready with his cudgel till he saw them, then found he wanted none of it. Not for such a pittance of coin. In hindsight he’d’ve paid never to have seen it at all.
To him, that was how Branoristown looked to’ve been built. A slow-fought scrummage of buildings, all having chosen the same place to put their foundations. Roofs crashed into roofs likes punches. Alleyways formed where two houses refused to touch. And in the little cove where the piers reached out, the structures scrambled all up on each other, dense and mad and jealous.
In the main they seemed made from driftwood. The sodden-once sort of wood that’s been planed and planked to hull boats and come together as clinkers, and looks now swollen through the grain, and dark even when dry. Shards of it and scraps of it. Sides of it taken wholesale off from a scuppered ship, still caulked with pitch or resin. They came together, clapped into houses and shopfronts. Doors that hinged to their frames like rudders and barred with what could have been oarshafts. Struts and stilts, creaking above the baywater, with buildings balanced haphazard atop them. Boats and houseboats, at jostle for moorings. And out beyond, a ways into the deeper waters, ships at anchor. An arbour of masts.
A patchwork, Simra thought. Or a mess if you weren’t feeling kind. All that pitch and seasoned wood, and the galewinds off the ocean — it was a wildfire waiting to happen.
He walked the one street. It struck out from inland, straightish towards the jagged crescent bay, the docks. A scuttle of buildings lined it on either side and alleys broke off like the veins in a leaf. They were built for rain, built for storms, angled against the north, and f0r all they looked haphazard, they were strong at the foundations, squat-rooted to the sloping ground. Built to stand still when the earth shook beneath them. Built to stand firm and to shrug when the mainland sent ash or the ocean crashed up from the harbour and into the streets.
The boards carried on down the street’s two sides, but worn and sunk with use. Slat to slat Simra picked his way, ankles braced and stiff against the uneven footing. The street dug through town, high at its dryboarded walkways, but sloping muddy to midway like a near-dry riverbed. Trenches and pools of water and glints of mirrored sky.
A cart stood abandoned a ways ahead, buried to the axles in mud. Beyond it, stones began to litter the dirt road as it bit out towards the beach. Those that walked the streets walked fast, heads down; ducked into alleyways soon as they could, like insects back to their holes at the first show of sun.
On the far side of the street a sign clapped in the breeze above a porch that pitched over the dryboards and looked half-fit to fall into the mire of the road. A few slats of wood, painted with a pair of scales, weighing a sun and pair of moons. The picture was well done. Unexpected here, out of place, but Simra reckoned he knew a tradehouse when he saw one.
He cast up and down the street for a way over. “Blight.” He looked at the mud, down at his boots, then back. “Fucking blight . . . ”
A pair of old Dunmer sat under the tradehouse porch, sharing smokes from the same clay waterpipe. The parts of some game lay between them on a cratebuilt table. Cards or dice; board and pieces. One with a long thin chinbeard caught Simra with his eye. Looked to his friend with the kind of spendthrift gesture that comes only from long acquaintance, and then they were both looking at him. Smirking from out their deep-lined faces and peering over the mudcourse with narrow-smiling eyes, dark red and making his neck burn, his scalp prickle.
A twist of Simra’s mouth then a sharp parting as he kissed his teeth. He tramped on down the street to where the stones began. Long strides, a shame and frustratement of longstretched time, and every motion he made in it felt false and forced as he felt their eyes on his back and their quiet laughter pronging at the settle of his insides. At last he crossed where it was easier to cross, boots growling on the beachstones, then up the street again.
His face had gone to thunder by the time he was back to the tradehouse. Must have, for how their faces fell and went blank, and their eyes went back to their game.
They were playing at maze, cards facedown across the tabletop in tangling paths and dead ends. Caselif had been good at the game, same as he’d been good at most every game he turned to. Tried to teach Simra more than once, but he only ever learnt enough to know when Case was winning, and that was more from watching, game after game after game, than from any of those meandering halfhensible lessons. The second of the two had that look now. A blank comfort in his gaze and patience in the shape of his small sagdown mouth. Beyond that he was beardless and bald, and bare even of eyebrows, so he seemed two ages at once. A crag-faced sharp-nosed infant with a labyrinth of lines round his eyes.
Simra made to move past them, through the heavy curtain that covered the doorway.
“No use on that,” said the bearded one.
“Eat inkstones, can you?” said the other. “Pots and pans and wholecloth? What you’re here for, intit? Provisioning? You look the sort.”
“Sword. Boots. Jangling every step. Wear your wealth, eh? Such as it is.”
“Such as it is,” said the bald Dunmer. His smirk was returning. “No food to be asked for if that’s what you’ll ask. Not by your means . . . ”
Simra’s head turned, hard, hurting with the motion. Fuck did they know about his means? His sort or sword or boots? But he forced himself calm, dragging in a long thin breath through his flaring nostrils. Blinking once, hard, as his left hand slid down to his swordbelt and stopped incidental just over the hanger. “No food at all?”
“Not for murder nor money.”
“Pity,” said Simra. His belly clenched. It was worse than he’d thought, and sooner too. “Can still hear voices inside though. How’s that?”
“Narywhere else to be. Tell you, everything’s to a halt round here.”
“Where’s the sense working if coin won’t feed you?”
“What’s left to do?”
“Piss your coin away somewhere warm, I s’pose is the reasoning.” The bearded Dunmer took a bubbling drag from the pipe.
“Then how come you’re both out here?”
“We’re only where we always are.”
“Been famines before.”
“And there will be again.”
“No reason to change from doing what you love.”
Famine. Simra had felt the word all this time but the bearded Dunmer was the first he’d heard say it here. “Well.” He shrugged to hide the slump in his shoulders, the doomed feeling in his spine. “Drinking on an empty belly does work out cheaper . . . ” That, and there’s uses for taproom talk — small victories to suck from defeat.
He passed through the curtain and into the bodywarmth, the murmur and bellow of voices, and the sourness of worried sweat.
“Good preparation, probably,” he said, back encamped that evening and on his way back to sober. “Gets us in the spirit. It’ll be worse on Vvardenfell.”
“What will be?”
He shrugged. “The cold maybe. The hunger for certain. The exposure and unrest and sense of nothing coming along quite right. Everything struggling along like no-one knows what they’re doing. Suffering along in the shadow of no-one having enough of anything. Whole island made of too many mouths and too many bellies and too many greedy hands, and little enough to fill any of them.”
“The plain’s no different,” said Noor.
“Nor any other wild place in the world maybe,” said Tammunei.
“Nah. There’s differences. People don’t crowd to the plain expecting to find anything but grass, grazing. Vereansu if they’re unlucky; freedom if they’re Vereansu. But Vvardenfell—? Fuck . . . I’d ask what rock you’ve been living under if I didn’t already know.”
Noor frowned and crossed her arms.
Simra kissed his teeth. Still the faintest slur in his voice when he spoke at length. “Glass. That’s part of it. Red Mountain splits open, bleeds ebony, spits trueglass every which way. People’re mad enough for it on the mainland, but on Vvardenfell it’s a fucking disease. Reckon the why of it’s simple though. There’s just more of it there. In the dirt, in the rivers, in seams and filled foyadas. Just . . . imagine a place coin grows from the ground but nothing else will. And the Houses peddle it as free land for settlers. Reclaimers, they say. Rich with opportunity, all that shit. But you find soon enough you can’t eat opportunity — or glass, or ebony either.”
“You asked me before,” said Tammunei. “Long before, it seems. You asked me if Morrowind is getting better. Healing.” They tailed into a wordless question.
“Right. Right . . . ” Simra tried not to falter; flush like he’d been caught out in something. “I asked because I’d seen one of the answers. Vvardenfell’s what happens if the answer’s no. Hunger and hopeless hope, and the things they do to people, and that people do to people because of them.”
“Ah.” Tammunei’s face broke a little, conflicting itself in two pieces. Understanding and wishing they didn’t, or had, long ago, earlier. A twitch in their mouth like they wanted to say more.
“It’s bad there. People too. I’d like to put a fair face on it, but I don’t want you thinking elsewise so I reckon it’s best I’m clear now. What’s it you said about reasons, Noor?”
“The right reason’s the one that moves you.”
“Right. I just . . . I wanted to give you your chances to get your reasons straight.”
Tammunei’s voice was smaller now when they spoke. “And what about yours, Simra? You’ve seen it. Why go back?”
Simra’s face shifted. A sharp twitch down its left side, stopping sudden at the knot and stubbornness of scars near his mouth. He forced it into a lopsided smile. “You know my reasons.”
“Grazelands,” said Noor. “Ghosts. That bag you carry in your bags. Bones, is it?”
“Teeth,” said Tammunei.
Simra frowned. “You could tell?”
Tammunei dipped their chin. A lingering nod. Of course they could tell.
“Well then,” he said. “Grazelands, ghosts, and a bag of rattling teeth. Sentiment.” He pulled a long mock of a smile. “Straight enough for you?”

Bookend House in Santa Monica

Bookend House
Architects: ORA
Location: Santa Monica, Los Angeles, Southern California, United States of America
Located blocks from the beach, the 4,820 square foot bookend house is a private compound with three distinct uses – a family home bookended by a guest house and a music studio.
The program for Bookend House mandated optimized site planning, functional relationships, circulation and access among the three uses to reduce the overall building size. Each use required separate access to give the family privacy in their home and garden while hosting long-term guests and daily visitors to the music studio.
Sustainable design strategies influenced by the local climate were required along with low-maintenance, natural finishes to limit resource use.
Informal living spaces housed in a wood and glass bar float over two submerged brick boxes containing the guest house and music studio. Strategically located to organize both indoor circulation and outdoor garden uses, the boxes’ heavy mass with punched openings playfully arranged to juxtapose scale, privacy, daylight and views, contrast the lightness and transparency of the wood bar above.
In response to the context and unique program, the long, narrow building form is oriented to capture westerly ocean breezes, utilizing an active passive cooling system. Glazing is minimized on south and west façades. To the east, deep overhangs and movable wood screens afford shade and privacy, while expansive glass openings take advantage of neighborhood landscape views.
A low-maintenance, drought resistant, native and adapted landscape design is implemented throughout, including topping the brick boxes with a green roof of native grasses connecting the landscape to second floor family spaces.
The Brief The owners’ desire was to build a garden compound with three distinct uses; a modest three-bedroom family home, a guest house and a music studio.
Key Challenges The program mandated optimized site planning, functional relationships, circulation and access among the three uses to reduce the overall building size. Each use required separate access giving the family privacy in their home and garden while hosting long-term guests and daily visitors to the music studio. Sustainable design strategies influenced by the local climate were required along with low-maintenance, natural finishes to limit resource use.
The Solutions The Bookend House is a private compound with three distinct and separate uses. A modest family home bookended by two solid volumes containing a guest house and music studio, contrast the home’s lightness and transparency and organize indoor circulation and outdoor garden uses.
Conceptualized as a bar floating above two boxes, informal living spaces are housed in a simple wood and glass bar, bookended by two brick boxes containing the guest house and music studio. Strategically located on the site to create garden wall enclosures for the outdoor patios, the boxes are submerged below grade, sliding under the bar above.
The bar steps up the site in response to a five-foot site grade change. Conforming to the natural contours, each of the main living spaces has a direct connection to the garden. Glazing is minimized on the south and west façade, and to the east deep overhangs and movable wood screens afford shade and privacy at expansive glass openings.
The heavy mass of the brick boxes contrast the wood bar, with punched wood windows playfully arranged juxtaposing scale, privacy, daylight and views. Topped with a green roof of native grasses, they connect the landscape to second floor spaces. The guest house is accessed from the street through a private courtyard. The music studio functions as a detached space with a separate entry for visitors through a lush submerged courtyard.
The garden was designed with a rugged sensibility and nothing too precious or delicate. A ‘beach meadow’ of native and adapted planting requires minimal water and maintenance. A kitchen patio for art projects is surrounded by an edible garden with a composting area for household waste. The family entry courtyard marked by a shade trellis houses a bicycle rack with storage for bike gear and an outdoor shower, encouraging biking around the neighborhood.
Key products used: Roof: Sarnafil G476, 60 Mil (Green Roofs) Flintastic GTA-FR Coolstar Torchdown, Energy Star-rated Siding: Western Red Cedar, with Eco-stain Cement: Plaster, custom color, steel trowel finish Sheet Metal: Bonderized Sheet Metal Brick: Endicot, Norman Manganese Ironspot Flooring: Concrete, Schofield, Winter Beige Decks: Ipe Doors & Wns: Spanish Cedar Skylights: Velux Cabinets: White Birch, Douglas Fir, White Oak Stair: Rift White Oak Tile: Heath Countertops: Boxy Blue, Leather finish Pietra Olivo, Honed finish Paint: Benjamin Moore Appliances: Miele, Best, Subzero Plumbing Fix: Toto, Hansgrohe, Duravit, Kohler Entry System: Siedle Vario + Classic systems Fireplace: Ecosmart, XL900 Hardware: FSB door handles Waterproofing: Tremco Paraseal
The clients The clients are a young family. The father is a musician and the studio is his workplace. Their home is a true live-work space.
The Unique Project The project is conceived in direct response to its site, context and unique programmatic requirements. In contrast to the housing vernacular typical of the neighborhood, where the tendency is to build large volumes to the maximum allowable footprint, the long, narrow building form responds to the site’s orientation towards prevailing ocean breezes from the west and lush borrowed landscape views to the east.
Sustainability Features Sustainable strategies integrated into the design include: • Optimized site planning, functional relationships, circulation and access between the three program uses reduced the overall building size. • Air-conditioning was forgone except in the music studio. Radiant heating tubes are installed throughout eliminating the need for ductwork, lowering operating temperatures and energy usage. • Active passive cross ventilation is accomplished through series of operable windows and ceiling fans in each space that pull cool prevailing breezes through the house. Warm air is exhausted outside through operable light monitors which serve as solar chimneys. • Solar heat gain is reduced by favoring larger openings to the north and east and through the use of low-e glazing throughout. • Deep overhangs and movable screens protect large glass openings from heat gain while allowing the main spaces to have expansive outdoor connections. Motorized exterior shades protect the light monitors from late afternoon sun. • Submerged below grade, the heavyweight concrete structures of the guest house and music studio with smaller, more discrete windows result in an exterior envelope with a high thermal mass. • A combination of radiant heat barriers installed below an energy star cool roof on the residence and green roofs on the bookends reduce solar heat gain. • The building envelope comprised of FSC certified wood siding, brick, cement plaster and glass is both low maintenance and long-lasting. • Inside, environmentally preferable materials made or harvested within 500 miles, sustainably grown woods and plywood made from rapidly renewable materials, and finishes free of toxins were used whenever possible. • Ultra-low flow water fixtures and solar hot water heating systems used for domestic hot water and pool heating reduce both water use and energy demands. • A low-maintenance, drought resistant, native and adapted landscape design was implemented throughout. • Storm water runoff is captured and filtered on site before being returned to the aquifer. • Solar panels provide 80% of the buildings energy use. • Two car charging stations power the owner’s cars
Building Methods Designed to create a muted backdrop for the informal landscape, the home is constructed of a neutral, earthy palette of manganese iron brick, smooth cement plaster and aged cedar. The brick transitions inside at the bookends contrasting the lightness and transparency of the wood bar. Inside, simple utilitarian interior finishes were selected including; white plaster walls, handmade tiles, warm concrete floors, birch cabinets and custom designed and fabricated cedar doors, windows and movable privacy screens.

Beach House Tour
Built and designed by Marnie Oursler of Marnie Custom Homes (recently featured here), this spectacular oceanfront beach house is just steps from the Atlantic ocean, in Fenwick Island, DE which served as the muse for the home’s design and aesthetic. Crisp whites, beachy blues, and faded driftwood serve as the palette for this light and airy home. Inside creativity is abundant with custom bunk bed, built-ins, remote controlled sky lights in the master bedroom and bath, custom tile work and even a separate 50’s retro kitchenette for house guests. This home was designed with the view in mind featuring five balconies and a spiral staircase leading to a rooftop deck with gorgeous views of the Atlantic. No detail has been overlooked for this dream beach home with ocean views from every angle.

Beach House Interior Design ideas
Beautifully designed by the host of HGTV Dream Home 2018, Marnie Oursler of Marnie Custom Homes, this beach house features plenty of coastal interior design ideas.
The 5 bedroom, 5.5 bath beach home is located just blocks from the ocean in Bethany Beach, DE with a sophisticated beach vibe. A calm, neutral palette reminiscent of refreshing salt air mixes with a variety of textures, wood tones, and rough stone, making this the perfect summer getaway.
This coastal home features many unique design elements by Marnie Oursler, including custom built-ins and molding throughout, reclaimed wood accents, hanging beds, exposed beams and French doors leading to a private balcony.
The custom designed kitchen is truly the heart of this home boasting white maple cabinetry, gorgeous white quartzite countertops and adding a touch of glam with a white pearl mosaic backsplash. White Oak floors throughout offer a feeling of casual beach elegance.
Outside the home, the entrance welcomes guests with a front porch and an extra wide blue custom front door, a signature of Marnie Custom Homes. The unique exterior design is accentuated by the cedar siding gives a classic beach house look. This home feels comfortable yet elegant and was built for generations to enjoy.

Things to do in San Diego this Weekend
Tumblr media
North Park Thursday Market 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., North Park Way & Granada Avenue (North Park) North Park is known for its interesting small businesses and, on Thursdays year-round, local vendors and artisans are showcased at this popular farmers market located on the corner of North Park Way and 29th Street. On the shopping list: farm-fresh fruits and vegetables, meat, eggs, sauces, bread and even handcrafted gifts from local, small businesses. The free event also features live music. Oceanside Sunset Market 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Main Street Oceanside Each Thursday, the Oceanside Sunset Market brings about 200 local merchants together for this sunset marketplace spanning four blocks in downtown Oceanside. Shoppers can expect vendors showcasing homemade goods and tasty grub, plus live music and, of course, an incredible ocean view. The free market is located on Pier View Way; if it rains, the market usually gets canceled, so check the weather before making your plans. Bob Seger and The Silver Bullet Band: The Final Tour 7:30 p.m., Viejas Arena at Aztec Bowl at San Diego State University Bob Seger and The Silver Bullet Band bring “The Final Tour” to San Diego Thursday night, playing Viejas Arena at Aztec Bowl at SDSU. Tickets still available to this concert start at $75. Circus Vargas 7:30 p.m., Plaza Bonita in National City Circus Vargas – celebrating its 50th anniversary and the golden era of the circus in America – returns to San Diego bringing with it acrobats, daredevils and flying trapeze under the big top. The show started its run earlier this month at Westfield Mission Valley but on Thursday it’ll start its run at Plaza Bonita in National City, where it’ll stay through March 4. After that, the “Big One” travels to Escondido’s Westfield North County (March 7 to March 18). General admission bleacher seats start at $15, while arena seats start at $27. Kids under 2 who sit on an adult’s lap get in free. International Guitar Night 7:30 p.m., California Center for the Arts in Escondido The California Center for the Arts in Escondido hosts International Guitar Night, now in its 19th year of touring, Thursday night. This year’s guest host is Italian musician Luca Stricagnoli, who will be joined on stage by swing guitarist Antoine Boyer and Flamenco guitarist Samuelito, both of France. Turkish fretless guitarist Cenk Erdogan rounds out the lineup. Tickets to this concert start at $35. Friday, Feb. 22 Museum Month: Half-Priced Admission Museum Times and Locations Vary (Entire Month of February) Quite possibly the best part about February: the Museum Discount Pass. All month long, more than 40 museums in San Diego County – from the Birch Aquarium and the USS Midway Museum to the San Diego History Center and Whaley House – will offer half-priced admission. The Museum Discount Pass, presented by the San Diego Museum Council, is free and available for pick-up at local libraries. Bring it with you this month to select museums on this list to snag deep discounts on admission.  San Diego Whale Watching Tours 9:30 a.m. or 1:30 p.m., Flagship Cruises & Events Whale watching season in San Diego typically runs from December to April, when approximately 20,000 gray whales migrate along our coast. Flagship offers daily whale watching tours to catch a glimpse of the magnificent giants of the sea, led by marine experts from Birch Aquarium, who will explain the intricacies of the ocean ecosystem. The tours are aboard the two-story yacht, the Marietta, and last about three-and-a-half hours. Weekend prices cost $48 for adults and $24 for children ages 4 to 12. Check the Flagship website for departure times, depending on the day you choose to cruise. Musica En La Plaza 7 p.m., California Center for the Arts Escondido From cumbia and huapango, to salsa and norteña, the Musica en la Plaza series at the California Center for the Arts in Escondido will get you up and dancing under the stars. The concerts have been going on for a while at the center’s Lyric Court, but this year, they are happening on the last Friday of every month. This Friday, Los Montaño lends its talents to the party, a four-man band that plays cumbia, norteña, corridos and much more. The event is free; seating at bistro tables is available for $12 per seat or $40 for a table for four. Those seats are very limited, so reserve your spot ahead of time. Food trucks and the Center Bar will be open during the concerts so attendees can purchase snacks and drinks. Hops on the Harbor: Burgeon Beer Company 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., Flagship Cruises & Events Enjoy a craft beer dinner cruise around the San Diego Bay paired with suds from Carlsbad’s Burgeon Beer Company, known for its Treevena American IPA. The menu from this installment of “Hops on the Harbor” includes four 6-ounce beer tastings expertly paired with four courses. For instance, Burgeon’s Burl, a nut brown brew, will be paired with Coffee-Rubbed Beef Sirloin. Also on the beer list: Burgeon’s German pilsner, Pistil, and its hoppy pale, Canopy Tour. The dinner cruise boards at 7 p.m. from 990 North Harbor Dr. and sails past the San Diego skyline, USS Midway, Star of India and other Maritime Museum ships and the Coronado Bay Bridge. Tickets cost $79.50 for adults and $47.70 for children ages 4 to 12; kids 3 and under are free. Reservations are recommended. 4th Friday Swing Dance 7:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., Queen Bee’s Art & Cultural Center Swing Dancing San Diego brings dance lessons to the Queen Bee Art & Cultural Center on Ohio Street with this lively event Friday night. Swing dance lessons start at 7:30 p.m.; after that, a live band and a DJ will keep the dance party going so everyone can boogie, swing or freestyle. Tickets – available at the door – cost $20 for the lesson and dance party, $15 for the lesson only, or $15 for the dance party only. 'Familiar' 8 p.m., The Old Globe “Familiar” – a family-centric comedy-drama – is on stage at The Old Globe in Balboa Park now through March 3. The production is about a couple living the American Dream since emigrating from Zimbabwe and their daughter, who is getting married. Along the way, there’s a lot going on with the blending of cultures and family members. Showtimes for “Familiar” vary weekly; Friday’s performance is at 8 p.m. Tickets start at $35 all the way up to $91 premium seats. A Celebration of Frank Sinatra 8 p.m., Copley Symphony Hall Cabaret artist Michael Feinstein and his trio celebrate the magic of Frank Sinatra in this “Seasons of Sinatra” show at Copley Symphony Hall. The concert will span several decades of the swinging American standards made famous by Ol’ Blue Eyes. Tickets range from $20 to $80. 'A Star is Born' 8 p.m. (Friday & Saturday), Cinema Under the Stars The Oscar-nominated film, “A Star is Born,” starring Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga, plays on the big screen this weekend at Cinema Under the Stars – at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
