i updated my navigation post and i encourage everyone to read it, specifically the DNI section, and if you disagree with anything there, then please go ahead and unfollow me.

i want to be very intentional with my words so for full transparency: this is not a safe space for cc dickriders. for anyone who says "she's just here to hoop, other people are not her responsibility" or for anyone who says "cc has addressed x at y time" or any other variation of it. for racists and misogynists as a whole. let me be very clear when i say i do not give a fuck about what she did or did not say - i care that she "sets" these "boundaries" and never strictly enforces them. you cannot say "i don't condone racism" and then turn a blind eye when your fans call your colleagues slurs and every disgusting name under the sun. this is not a line you draw in the sand, this is a hill you HAVE to fucking die on.

the W is a league that deserves to expand, to grow, and to be appreciated. there are so many talented women that give their heart to this sport. but if growth means inviting these disgusting people into these communities, then ungrow the league. growth doesn't mean anything if the stands are full of slurs when a black woman is at the line for free throws. i see a lot of people argue that cc has taken a stance against it and that she does not support that so she is not responsible for their actions, but where is the urgency? if you truly wanted it shut down, you would say as such. as many times as it needs to be said. if you truly wanted it shut down, you would not want these people attaching themselves to your name to perpetrate hate, racism, and misogyny against the women that have built and grown and will continue to grow this league and this game.

on that note, this is not a safe space for even "casual" fans, cc or fever otherwise. you can sit here and claim you're just watching good basketball, just like cc is just here to hoop. there is never a "just" something. it takes an insurmountable amount of privilege to sit on your couch and distance from yourself from the very real prejudices that these women face daily, on court or otherwise. the politics of everyday life follow us everywhere and you cannot sit on the fence between one or the other. silence and neutrality are as good as opposition. being here "just" to watch or "just" to hoop just means that the racism, the silence, and the misogyny are not dealbreakers for you. it means you'd condone it as long as it entertained you.

wanted to add my two cents because shipping discourse is just all over recently. Forgive me rambling a bit here. I have a lot of thoughts on this topic and would like to get them out there in some form.

Stop harassing CC's about their boundaries.

Would you go up to a random person whom you've never met before in your life, who has never met you either, and likely has no idea who you are, purely to ask them if you can draw/write/ship them with one of their co-workers?

No! It's a wildly uncomfortable question to a lot of people, it puts them on the spot, and some CC's may not care as long as they never see it. Now that the concept has been shoved in their face, they're forced to view the idea.

I feel like a large part of the issue is the divide between younger, newer fandom members and older, traditional ones. Primarily the concept that fan content is not intended for CCs, but for fans specifically. Most 'traditional' and older fandom participants follow this view because that's what fandom is. You get to make cool things, and ramble about different head cannons and ideas with your friends and maybe find other fans who become your friends along the way. Maybe you want to throw these characters you really like into this elaborate superhero AU, or draw them in costume, or explore relationship dynamics because it's fun and you get to ramble with fellow fans. It's called a fandom for a reason!

I'd like to clarify here that this post is not meant to target anyone in particular; it's going off a general trend I've noticed.

There's been an influx of people who create fan works or fanart that seems to be aimed more to gain clout or to be noticed by CCs. It's something they wanted to make, but is leaving the realm of "by fans, for fans," in a sense that it seems to have lost more of that "for fans." The work is then shoved at the CC more aggressively than if it was just for friends.

There's a reason that spaces like AO3 and Tumblr exist with such large fan communities- because the communities are meant for fans. It's all well and good when CC's decide to take a peek or participate in said fan spaces of their own volition. They're the ones making the choice to engage. It's NOT all well and good when someone, as a fan, is trying to make that choice FOR them by shoving fanworks at the CC begging for clarification on what is okay with them. You're not going to help anyone in that way. Fan spaces exist separately from the CC spaces for a reason. The CC is a person behind the screen who you don't know. The character or role they play in the series you watch? You might know just about everything there is to know about them!

If a CC has laid out a boundary that they aren't comfortable with X Y Z, then there's a really, really simple solution here. Don't show it to them.

Don't put it in main tags, don't tag them in the post, hell, block the CC so you know they won't be able to view something that makes them uncomfortable.

There's a lot of what comes across as almost puritanical virtue signaling I've seen lately, where people are talking about CC boundaries everywhere and trying to police fanwork. I will again refer you to the point above. The fanwork is not made for the CC. It is made for fans, and if it is something the CC isn't comfortable with, then don't go posting it where they might regularly look at things (such as main fanart/fanwork tags.)

Yes, there are CCs who are over here. Yes, they look through fan works. This app is primarily a fan-oriented space and it has tags that CC's (or anyone else!!) can block to avoid things they are uncomfortable with. Though at this point the few that are over here either were already gay dot com natives or have basically become one.

I may have gone a bit off my original topic but TL;DR:

KEEP FAN WORKS TO FAN SPACES, AND STOP HARASSING THE CC'S PLEASE. LET THEM EXIST IN PEACE.

To the posts that are arguing it's ok to ship aroace characters (where canon has had them being pretty hard canoned towards being VERY aroace) and arguing that "it's a spectrum," then it's fine to ship 100% lesbian characters with men characters or ocs and to ship 100% gay men characters with women characters or ocs. Because it's all a spectrum, right.

This is not an attack on aroaces shipping, I ship as an aroallo, but I think alloallos pulling the "it's a spectrum," are doing it bc they're aphobic and don't give a shit. They never have. And shipping alloaces leave that door open imo. And I personally haven't seen the policing because I'm just quietly blocking most shippers, but if you're so bothered by the "fandom police" who are probably rightfully making reasonable arguments, the block button is there for you too.

I shouldn’t feel bad about blocking a user on ao3 who clearly didn’t read the explicitly mentioned tags properly and gave critique on something that I don’t recall being an issue for anyone else, let alone me writing or editing it, and yet! I do! What happened to don’t like don’t read? What happened to I dunno, reading the fucking tags! If you’re gonna read a work that’s apparently not in a language you have a solid grasp on, leaving comments that I have to translate into English from Portuguese, perhaps do not write critique on their work! I do this for fun!!! I understand readability is important if you want reading to happen, but Jesus Christ! Did I fucking ask? I may have actually but be fucking nice about it! I may have said if the formatting for fucked lemme know, but that’s not hey there’s a lack of dialogue tags in an area and I usually skip them when it’s quick back and forth shit where you know who’s taking, so I dunno what the issue was. It may well have been the lack of content dialogue tags that get so clunky to read and write (insert that excerpt from my immortal where a character uses 3 different tones of voice just becaue the author refuses to use said, it sounds horrible to read it out for reasons besides the usual my immortal fic being wildly bad)
