Goblin Daycare are based in Istanbul, Turkey. They peddle a type of punk that sounds like Devo played through sludge speakers. This is abrasive, short and quite melodic. It also reminds me of the Australian punk sounds of bands like Ausmuteants.

The band is currently preparing a full length for German label Dedstrange. Frankly, I would have thought this would have fit nicely on ETT (Erste Theke Tontraeger - who released The Coneheads). In fact, as I was listening to that label's newest LP - Busted Head Racket - I noticed that they mentioned the label "egg" or "weird" punk. Like them, I just like to think of this sound as punk. And while I have you, go back and listen to Rita Mosss (RITA MOΣΣΣ).

Back to Goblin Daycare. This is their debut EP released in the U.S. by Godless America Tapes.

A Banana Splits concert opener we'd love to see

The quartet driving golf carts rather comically, in the stylee of certain Shriners units in this regard, eventually braking suddenly and each such member, as they emerge from their golf cart while being introduced, walking in a stylee best described as a cross between "The Coneheads" from Saturday Night Live and Monty Python's Ministry of Silly Walks--obviously for comic effect.

Remembering Jules Bass 1935-2022

Animation producer / director Jules Bass has died at 87. He co-directed multiple holiday-themed animated specials including Frosty the Snowman, Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town, 'Twas the Night Before Christmas, The Year Without a Santa Claus, and Frosty's Winter Wonderland just to name a few. He also did many Easter specials as well as many J.R.R. Tolkein adaptations. All of those are specials I loved as a kid and some of them I’ve introduced my son to in recent years. 

Other notable shows he did include Jackson 5ive, the Jackson Five cartoon series. Another show I loved when I was a kid and catching in syndication. I was catching up on that show at around the time Michael Jackson’s Thriller was sweeping the nation. He also did The Coneheads, the 1983 animated TV movie of the SNL characters.

Several years ago, I went through a punk phase. I mean a specific kind of almost "math punk". Short, choppy, angular songs in the mold of Devo. The Coneheads, Ausmuteants, and Isotope Soap are all examples from posts that serve as examples.

Madrid, Spain's Waldo Faldo fit nicely into this genre. These songs are short and catchy. When I saw the cover art, I kind of assumed this was a band from the 1980s and some of the unsold 7"s were being put up on Bandcamp. But no, Waldo Faldo are a current band. "Nueva Especie Humana" is their 2nd 7" single. It looks like it is self-released.
