#the day my mom told me that my voice was lispy was the day my soul shriveled into powder

my mom was always a jealous woman, and I learned from a young age how to navigate that. I knew exactly when to sit next to her at the restaurant, exactly how to write her Christmas cards, exactly when to drop some sickly sweet almost too young for me platitude, emphasis on the s'es to really make my lisp pop.
But I got older and one day, I can't remember when, it didn't work anymore. Suddenly she couldn't stand to be next to me, and my Christmas cards no matter how much thought I put into them were "fine", and my lisp drove her fucking crazy. I'd been in speech therapy making amazing progress for years when she started telling me how annoying my voice was. She'd repeat my words back to me in this whiney, lispy voice, honing I'm on every r sound, emulating the "wa" sound I'd been working hard every day to purge out of my language for her.
For the first time in years I stopped talking. At first for a day or so, then for weeks. To begin with it was met with rage over the breakfast table. Empty belly as I cried silently in the back seat on the way to school, hoping the mean man driving me wouldn't notice. If I can't ask for food today I won't get it. If I can't ask to read today I can't do it.
Then, nobody cared. Brushing past me in the hall like I wasn't there, not greeting me when I got back from school. Sending me upstairs when we had people over, because nobody wanted to share a living room with a little girl who doesn't talk. They'd leave me up there sometimes all weekend. I wasn't invited down at all.
The doctor told them to stop. That I won't talk at all if they won't talk to me. That I wasn't doing this to punish or hurt or get back at anyone. That this was common in children and most grow out of it if treated with kindness and compassion. They didn't believe him.

Noah, Part Six - Peter Maximoff x Reader
Part 1 // Part 2 // Part 3 // Part 4 // Part 5
...
When you were kids, you and Peter had lived under the same roof for almost five years.
And this was the longest he had ever gone without talking to you.
It was absolutely...
Unnatural.
You knew he’d interrogated Noah - something you wanted to be mad about, but just couldn’t be.
Peter deserved answers, and you felt guilty for not giving them to him. Especially after you'd seen the way he looked at you, the night you went out to dinner with Alex.
The night you explained everything.
But if Peter was allowed to grill your son...
Well, couldn't you?
“Hey, Noah,” you said, crouching down beside your son. “I know you’ve kinda... noticed, that things have been a little different.”
“What,” said Noah, in his soft, lispy voice. “What, that you and Daddy aren’t together anymore?”
Your eyes widened, and you released him, feeling as if you’d been burned.
“Daddy? Why’d you.. why would you call him that?”
He shrugged. It was the saddest thing you’d ever seen.
“I don’t know. He's around all the time and he teaches me things...”
“Well, so do I!”
“You protect me, Mommy. You protect me, an’... an’ you fight the bad people. It’s different.”
Noah sounded so sure. You wished you could be as certain as he was.
“What about Alex, huh?” you asked, smoothing his hair down. “Did you like him? He was cool, right?”
“Yeah. I guess.”
You huffed.
“Can I see Da-”
“Peter,” you corrected, forcefully.
“Can I go see Peter now? He’s s’posed to teach me today -- how to play tennis by myself.” “Don’t you want to spend the afternoon together, love? We could... we could read. You like that... don't you?”
Noah shrugged again.
“I guess so. I don’t really have to learn it, anyway. Peter says as long as he’s around, I’ll never have to play by myself.”
Your eyes welled up with tears.
“Well,” you managed, “I guess... I guess you’d better go.”
“Will you be okay?”
“Yeah, ‘Oah. I’ll be fine. I’ll just... stay in.”
“Sure you don’t want to come?” asked Noah.
You shook your head. He leaned in, whispering in your ear, as if he was going to tell you a secret.
“B’cause... Peter said he misses you.”
You’d be lying if you said you didn’t smile.
...
Okay...
So Peter Maximoff was kind of an incredible tennis instructor.
And surprisingly patient, in a way he never had been with you.
“Okay, buddy - that was great, but just a little to the left - oh,” he muttered, noticing you. “Hey, Y/N.”
You gave him a half-hearted wave.
“Peter,” said Noah, seriously, “You promised we could do some racing.”
“I know, buddy, but... it’s kinda windy today. It’s not the best conditions.”
Noah crossed his arms, pouting.
“Okay,” said Peter, giving in. “Alright... meet you back here?”
“Meet you,” agreed Noah, taking off.
Several moments passed. You couldn’t see either of them, but... suddenly, you felt a sharp burst of pain in Noah’s mind.
Within moments, Peter reappeared speeding out of the woods, carrying your son.
“The dummy broke his arm,” said Peter.
...
“He’ll be okay,” said Peter, attempting to comfort you. “S’ not so bad. One of the disadvantages of our powers are... you break a lot of stuff. Often limbs.”
You smiled, slightly.
“I know. He’s a tough kid. But I’m gonna wait up with him, anyway. As a kid, when I was sick, or hurt... I needed a lot of attention.”
“Oh, I remember,” Peter chuckled. “We thought you were dying.”
“Wow.”
“Well, you were kinda dramatic.”
“Oh, like you weren’t, at that age.”
He shrugged.
“That’s, uh... that’s fair. Listen... if you’re staying with Noah tonight... you want me to stay?”
“Why?” you asked, bluntly.
Peter shrugged, again.
“I don’t want you to be alone.”
Hesitantly, you allowed Peter to sit down on the couch, beside you, tucking your head into his shoulder.
When you woke in the morning, he was gone.
...
You knew it was time to go.
Xavier had taught Noah enough to control his powers, you reasoned. Sure, it wasn’t exactly what you'd hoped for - but he wasn't a full fledged X-Man yet, after all. He had time.
And, most importantly, you had fulfilled your duty as a mother.
You had ensured that Noah was safe.
Sure, you wouldn’t be able to pursue learning your own skills - but did that really matter?
A nagging voice in your head (probably Jean) told you that it did.
It also told you that you were running away from your problems, like you always had.
And also that you should brush your teeth.
“I don’t understand, Mom,” said Noah, reluctantly taking your hand. “Why do we have to go?”
“Because we’re done, love. We accomplished... what we came here to do. It’s time to go back to the real world. We can’t hide here forever.”
He nodded, slowly, and you hoped he understood.
“...Is Peter coming?”
You threw Noah’s suitcase in the trunk of your car with a thunk.
"No,” you said, quietly. “No, he’s... he’s not.”
Noah’s face went blank.
“What? Mom, we can’t-”
“That’s all, Noah. I’ve made up my mind.”
You helped him into his car-seat and climbed into the front, taking one last look at the Mansion before driving away.
Quietly, Noah began to hum something.
“That’s pretty,” you mused, softly. “What is it?”
“A song Peter taught me. He said it was your song.”
You swallowed.
Noah began to sing.
“If I could save time in a bottle, the first thing that I’d like to do... is to save every day, till eternity passes away... just to spend ‘em with you...”
Oh, no fair.
Peter was playing dirty.
“But there never seems to be enough time... to do the things you wanna do, once you find ‘em... I’ve looked around enough to know, that you’re the one I want to go through time with...”
Turn back, your brain was screaming. Turn back, turn back, turn back-
A car pulled up alongside you.
And it was Peter’s head that hung from the window, a megaphone pressed to his lips.
“Pull over!”
“What?!”
He almost ran you off the road.
“Pull over!”
"Mom?” asked Noah, in an eerily calm voice. “Are we gonna die?”
“No, love,” you said, decisively, pulling the car over. “No, I’m just gonna kill Peter, that’s all.”
“Y/N, I have to talk to you-”
“Are you crazy!” you yelled, slamming the door behind you. “Who drives like that? Are you-”
“Listen to me!” Peter shouted, jumping out of his car.
“I love you! And I don’t care that Noah’s not my son, okay? I’ll raise a hundred children, Y/N. With a hundred of your boyfriends, if it means I can be with you.”
Your eyes welled up with tears.
“...Can you put that down?”
“THIS EXPRESSES HOW LOUDLY I LOVE YOU!”
“It’s too loud,” you whispered, trying not to smile.
He knelt down, opening up a small, metal box.
“This is the Hope diamond,” Peter said, seriously, “And I stole it. But Xavier told me that it’s worth kind of a lot, and I don’t know if that means anything... but I thought it looked kinda cool, and I wanted you to have it-”
“Okay,” you agreed, quickly. “Okay, yes, yes, I will!”
You threw your arms around Peter’s neck and kissed him, deeply.
“I love you!” you shouted, feeling every emotion cross over you at once.
“I love you!” he shouted back, so happy he could barely breathe.
“And... I lied to you.”
“What?”
“Noah’s your son.”
Peter's express went blank.
“What? Why would you say-”
“I just needed you to want to marry me... because you wanted to marry me.”
He stumbled back, looking dazed - and for a moment, you were afraid you’d lost him.
“Get out!” Peter shouted, suddenly, absolutely screaming with happiness. “I’m a dad!”
“You’re a dad!”
This time, it was Peter that threw his arms around you, and you reciprocated.
...
Hey guys! Just a reminder, the story doesn’t end here.
I’m gonna continue to write in the ‘Noah’ timeline, but you can find the whole series under the title ‘All and Then Most Of You’ in my masterlist.
I plan to cover Peter and reader’s time at Xavier’s, and of course, their life as a family!
Many of these fics will be standalones that fit with the overall series
If you have any ideas for the series, or adventures that Peter, Noah and Reader should go on, please send ‘em in!
Also, credit to the Office. As I mentioned in the first chapter, I borrowed some of the dialogue for this chapter from one of the last episodes.

of all days, you picked this day as the day to slack off.
there was no reason to doll up, you reasoned. this was your rest day. no plans were made and no places you needed to go, so you went and picked up your sister’s kid wearing your house clothes.
no biggie. a few blocks distance wouldn’t hurt your sense of insecurity. a kindergartener’s teacher also wouldn’t possibly judge how you look when you’re only out to pick a kid up from school.
today, however, was different.
everything became instinct. your fingers went up the center of your jacket, to zip it up entirely. your hands then reached down to your sweatpants, checking if you were wearing it the right way. to your hair, if there are hair strands that are where they’re supposed to be. everything became instinct so you don’t look so much like a mess
in front of this fine preschool teacher.
“i’m Futaba’s guardian.”
your throat let out the softest, shyest voice you could ever project. you found yourself shamelessly, and instinctively, acting cute in front of this fine preschool teacher.
how else were you supposed to react? his beautiful gray hair enticed you, with a fringe softly parted on the center of his forehead. his porcelain skin that put Snow White to shame, his round, brown eyes that reflected every star in the galaxy, and his smile that could win a boxing match against the sun. not to mention, the mole under his left eye definitely hit the mark.
“good afternoon, Futaba’s guardian-san.”
hearing his voice for the first time, you’re decided. it was a crush.
perhaps it was superficial of you. you claim to fall for a guy you don’t know only for the fact you found him cute. you thought looking at him, admiring him like this was enough however when his angelic smile brightened at the sight of the children waving bye-bye to him and him waving bye-bye back. when he went down on one knee in front of your sister’s daughter, politely asking her she has to stop playing with her classmates because you have come to bring her home. when Futaba spread her arms and wrapped them around his neck, telling him a lispy see you tomorrow.
how dare you face someone like him looking like this.
on the way home, you were dead-set on asking your sister to let you bring your niece home every schoolday. seeing him once was not enough. something about him gravitated you to wanting to see more of him.
you remember the name written on his nametag when you caught the last glimpse of him.
“Sugawara”
his name reminded you of grass fields, as it is what it meant. it was perfect for him. the aura he emitted was rather calming. people must like having him around for he’s a breath of fresh air. he really was a perfect kindergarten teacher.
“how was school, Futaba?”
your niece skipped as she walked, visibly excited to talk about her day. “it was really fun! my classmates and i had a tea party earlier! Futaba almost spilled the cup because it was too hot.”
“what about your teachers?” you wanted to smack yourself for squeezing information about a guy from your 5-year-old niece. it is a desperate move however, which else choice do you have?
“ah! Sugawara-sensei read us a beanstalk story before nappy time.” Futaba put a finger on her chin as if to think about what else happened. she had no idea how hooked she got you to listen to her story. “then, then Sugawara-sensei helped Futaba with her clay family!”
you then considered yourself lucky.
“do you like Sugawara-sensei?”
and pushed the topic about the man further, seeing the sparkles in your niece’s eyes and how she skipped even happier. “yes! yes! Futaba’s favorite teacher is Sugawara-sensei,” she declared and continued shyly. “he helped Futaba talk to her crush Kaito-kun.”
when you said you were dead-set, you are dead-set for real. what’s there to lose? kids love him, including your own niece. he’s beautiful. he has a gentle voice. he probably smells like daisies. you just have to befriend him and get to know about him some more before introducing him to your parents-
as a friend.
right?
“for what? did you find a cute guy there or something?”
it sucked your sister knew you too well.
that day, you invited yourself in your sister’s room the second she got home from work. the sly yet desperate move visibly annoyed the older so much that she knew you had something up your sleeve to even dare show up in her room.
“no. just that, it’s a good way to take breaks from the café. plus, i get to hang out with Futaba.” you explained as simply as you could, even though your sister literally can see right through your lies.
she hummed and replied with, “you never get out of the house unless it’s absolutely necessary. when i asked you to take Futaba home from school yesterday, you hated it because your break time from café is ruined. please. find someone else to fool, y/n.”
you soon admit that you truly are dumb. that, however, did not stop you from redeeming yourself to your sister; that being telling the truth and not exactly redeeming anything. you told her the man you set your eyes on in Futaba’s school. you jokingly told her it was love at first sight even though you never believed of something as ridiculous as such.
besides, your sister has no room to reject. you aimed at two birds with one stone. not only do you get to see more of the guy, but you will do your sister a favor of taking care of her daughter for free.
she sighed, finding no way to deny this. “i hate to say it but your timing is too good. i was thinking of finding a babysitter for Futaba since both of us are busy. but if you insist, who am i to decline?”
so this side job began the following day.
thirty minutes spared during your break before you engage yourself to war. you decided to spend those thirty minutes to rearrange yourself. you would rather not switch into your house clothes like you did yesterday, would you? this time, you chose carefully. you didn’t want to look like a floor rag but you didn’t want to look like you went there to go on a date either. even to contemplate whether or not you must add a little more blush on your cheeks to look lively.
you changed into a casual fit. a plain shirt, denim shorts and a pair of slip-on sandals. it was an attempt to not look like you were trying too hard. not with those clean ponytail and tinted lips.
“good afternoon, i’m Futaba’s guardian.” you told yourself a good job that you remembered to greet today.
but Sugawara wasn’t the one you directed that to.
he wasn’t around. you sneaked glances left and right to see if he was playing together with the other kids, but alas.
you walked home with Futaba, holding her hand. you try to match the child’s mood as she was very elated to talk about her day. on the other hand, you; Sugawara could have been busy. you can still see him again the following day.
the following days, you lessened your get up from your first attempt. he was present, but the greetings were the same as first day you met.
what the hell are you supposed to do now? do you start conversations? well, of course, you told yourself, since you’re the one who wants something from him. but how? what should you talk about? your day? his day? the kids? his job? what?
“thank you for taking care of Futaba.”
“hm? it is my job though.”
there goes your little motivation to initiate conversations with people you’re interested in.
you hear him chuckle at you, which added to the embarrassment you had from your statement alone.
today was parents’ day. the kids were asked to bring their parents to school to have a little meeting with the rest of the class. it worried you that Futaba only had you as her guardian to go with her, not her mother, but you see the kid in her high spirits since this morning you didn’t want to ruin that for her and apologize on her mother’s behalf.
you think this as you lean against the wall at the corner, until you notice Sugawara stood beside you. so much so, you spoke absent-mindedly.
you should have kept your mouth shut.
“is Futaba’s mother doing okay? we haven’t seen her since a week ago.”
or maybe you don’t have to keep your mouth shut after all. you turned to him, stunned. like, goodness, he’s starting a topic with you himself. how can you not be stunned.
“o sorry. is it a sensitive topic? i’m sorry-”
“no!” you said audibly. too audibly. you clamped your mouth, worried if you took the children’s attention away from the kids who are presenting in front. you continued in a whisper, while he still chuckled at you, “Futaba’s mom recently switched work schedules that clashes together with the kid’s school. she wasn’t allowed to take a leave today, so i’m here in her place.”
geez, were you talking too much?
“i see.”
you probably were talking too much.
“you two are siblings, no?”
“uh, yeah. we are.”
he nodded to himself, turning to the kids presenting again. a silent heave of relief escaped you while you leaned comfortably against the wall again. guess that was enough interaction for the day.
“i guess, we’ll keep seeing Futaba’s guardian-san from now on.” he gave you a gentle smile, leaning a bit closer to you from the half-feet distance.
“you don’t have to keep calling me that.”
“my apologies. what should i call you?”
“y/n.”
“y/n-san then.”
he gave you one last boyish smile before walking off to his station.
hold up.
did he just come here to ask for your name? did he trick you into telling him your name?
you and Futaba went home happily. literally, the both of you had a great day in school. here, you were giggling like a kid who just got noticed by her crush. but you could be wrong. it’s only natural of a teacher to learn one of his student’s  guardian’s name. he cannot be interested in you.
on the other hand, he did start a conversation with you.
don’t get ahead of yourself, you thought. you cannot help but still think about it.
the traffic lights flashed a green color.
days went on. you stayed as the one bringing your niece home safely every afternoon while the mother is busy. the relationship and trust you built with the child strengthened. your heart swell each time you see her jumping in joy whenever you show up after school. when you thought that alone will bring you happiness everyday, Sugawara greets you everyday with the same boyish smile.
each day pass, soon you become close friends. this made Futaba happy as you two are two of her favorite people.
until one day, the teacher called saying Futaba got sick.
worry engulfed you. you wondered what could’ve happened for the child to get sick, when she was fine earlier before her and her mother left together. could your sister not have noticed? or did it happen during school? more and more questions took shape as you frantically closed the café and ran to the school.
you rushed inside the nurse’s office, panting profusely. your eyes first caught your niece lying on the bed unconscious, and Sugawara sitting by the bed, placing a damp towel on her forehead.
“good morning, I’m Futaba’s guardian.”
Futaba’s teacher explained the situation to you. the kids were outside playing in the playground when Sugawara saw Futaba drenched in one hidden part of the garden. you see another kid standing beside the teacher. the kid gripped the hem of his shirt tightly as if he wanted to rip it off. the scowl on his face says enough of why he was here.
“i didn’t do it.”
the teacher continued, “ever since parent’s day, apparently some students have been picking on Futaba for not having her mother around.
“i’m terribly sorry. i’ve helped Futaba in ways i can. even i wanted to call you for this, but when i told Futaba i will, she begged me not to tell you because you and her mother are both busy with work.” she nudged the kid beside her, “isn’t there something you need to tell Futaba’s guardian?”
the kid averted his eyes. you figured there was no reason squeezing an apology from stubborn children like him. you kneeled before the kid to be at the same level as his eyes.
“what’s your name?”
he spent a few seconds quivering his lips before speaking, “Sora.”
“Sora,” you held his shoulder gently, looking into his eyes. “you’re very lucky to always have your mother by your side.”
tears formed in his innocent eyes.
you went on. “always remember to tell your mom that you love her, long as you still have her around, so she will stay. okay?” you finished, smiling at him as bright as you could.
Sora erupted into tears, storming off out of the nurse’s office and yelling his apology.
kids.
“i’m sorry i didn’t mean to make him cry.” you reasoned, when you know full well you did it on purpose to put that kid into a guilt trip for messing with your niece like this. the teacher said it was fine, that she could’ve done it the same thing but a different way.
ignoring that, you turned to Sugawara, who you forgot was there the whole time, “i’m sorry for the trouble. i’ll be taking her home now.”
“i can help you bring her home.”
Sugawara stood up from his seat. this startles you because you also forgot you had a crush on him. you try to decline his offer, reasoning that your house is nearby and that you can carry a kid no problem.
but the Futaba’s teacher helped insist, “Sugawara-sensei should help you look after Futaba… uh, y/n-san was it?” you nodded, dubiously. “it was also said by Futaba that you’re working alone in your house with no one to help you. so please.”
you couldn’t decline when you saw Sugawara already carrying the kid behind his back. so you went home together with him, big deal. you felt embarrassed after getting your background get found out like that. guess Futaba is too honest of a kid, but not honest enough to tell her family that she was bullied at school.
“here will do.”
the two of you finally stood in front of your father’s café. the walk was silent, but you believed it was enough interaction for the day once more.
“you weren’t kidding when you say it was nearby, huh?” he said, looking through the glass windows.
“well. yeah.”
“that’s too bad,” he says, still carrying the kid on his back. he looks back to you. the smile appears again, “aren’t you going to open the door?”
you unlocked the doors. then, it hit you. what did he mean by too bad?
after taking Futaba up to her room and tucking her in bed, you went back down to the café where you found Sugawara idling about. “you can rest yourself on one of the booths. let me brew a drink for you.” you took your apron and hurried behind the counter. meanwhile, the man stood up perhaps wanting to leave.
“oh, you don’t have to make me a drink. i should be leaving.”
this confused you. really, what was that too bad for?
“you went all the way to our café. it’s only natural i made a drink for you.” you try and justify yourself. also, you already pressed the espresso machine. there’s no reason to waste a cup of espresso.
“if so, must i stay?”
this was the second to the last straw.
you stood there, one hand holding the ice scooper and the other holding a grande-sized cup, while staring at him straight into his bright eyes. those orbs must be telling you something. there should be a secret hiding within those eyes. for example, an answer to his question.
“do you want to stay?” you first broke the gaze.
“i’m the one asking you, y/n,” he said with a chuckle.
once again, you hesitated. “sure.”
the café flooded with silence while you made an iced latte for him. you trailed your gaze to the top of his head as he sat on one of the booths. concerns arise from the pit of your mind. nothing seemed to be happening. then, what is he here for? if he stayed, what will happen? is this all on purpose? should you put your guards up?
are the green lights alit again?
you put the iced latte on his table when he spoke. “i’m quite worried about Futaba with what happened to her.”
“well, she did a good job hiding the truth from us.” you say as you sat across him. “she’s a strong kid. i’m more worried if she will continue hiding her pain from the people who care about her.”
maybe you shouldn’t start such a touchy subject like this, yea? Sugawara landed his eyes at you but you avoided it and stood up. you have no idea what’s going on. if anything, this is not the right context of when something will develop. both of you just brought home a sick kid, for Pete’s sake. must you really take advantage of this?
“anyway, i’ll tell my sister what happened. she can help Futaba better than i-”
“i wonder if i’ll still see you every afternoon.”
his honesty astounded you. Sugawara’s pale face flushed from shame. guess he didn’t mean to say that. this means, if you weren’t getting ahead of yourself again, it’s how he actually feels.
you tried to lessen his embarrassment, “of course you will, who else will pick Futaba up from school?” so you played dumb.
“if your sister knew about the situation, she might switch her schedule.”
what was he trying to say?
“she can’t do that easily, you know.”
“there will still be a possibility.” he rested his chin on his palm, smiling at you, “which reminds me, i have been looking for a part-time job around here. is your café looking for more workers?”
“you wanna work here?” you ask as you went and flip the sign to open, since you’re already back for work.
“sure,” he picked himself up from the booth and walked towards you. “but i think i should follow someone’s footsteps first and make an impression. you know, you’re going to be my boss. i should meet you with casual clothes, not with a track jacket, sweat pants and unkept hair. what do you think?”
you flipped the sign to close. “are you mocking someone here?”
he tried to not make himself laugh at you. “i’m just saying i shouldn’t half-ass it if i’m looking for another job, y/n.”
“doesn’t sound like you’re actually looking for another job though?”
“i’m not,” he admitted. “i’m only looking for a reason to see you more. every 12.30 pm isn’t enough.”
the traffic lights said go. it is now 12.31 pm.

Sunny C. Age who gives a fuck and no one needs to know. No one needed to know her last name and no one needed to know her age. adult hood hit her sooner than it should’ve when she was just a kid so age shouldn’t matter in the first place right? that is until certain dates roll around.
It had finally hit Sunny. she was getting older and in just a four to three months the dreaded day was going to come. September 6th. the worst day she could think of aside from all the holidays that were always ruined due to her “family”.
Rubbing her neck with her right hand as her left stayed on the steering wheel she was nudged by the man sitting next to her. This man was named Dean Winchester. Looking over at him she let her arm wrest on the center console as she cocked her eyebrow, “What?” she let out a bit abruptly as she kept her eyes on the road after a minute of him just. looking at her with that look, that look that she knew he had when he had questions. “Don’t “what” me, somethin’ is wrong. now drop it.” he seemed to almost snap at her. rolling her eyes a bit as she bit the tip of her tongue almost in annoyance. letting out a groan, she huffed and spoke up nodding almost in a sarcastic way. “A’ight, wanna know what’s wrong? the dreaded thing called a “Birthday” is gonna roll around here soon and i’m more than likely going to drink like it’s the end of the fucking world, more than likely get drunk because of it and fuck up my liver cause i don’t wanna remember that day. happy now?” she almost snapped that last part out as she looked at him.
Now Dean on the other hand, didn’t and hasn’t known why she hates her birthday so much, the past few years that they spent around each other each time it was her birthday she wanted it ignored and acted like it was any normal day. Why though? she never answered why. Inhaling sharply he nodded a bit to respond and he knew that she was ticked now due to the fact she was speeding when she normally didn’t and how easy it was to send her off the edge with just simply asking “whats wrong”.
Hours later after the music was turned up almost to a deafening caliber. and Sunny loudly screaming she opened the door to the hotel room and tossed her bag onto her bed and sat down for a minute rubbing her face. Dean followed suit behind her and shut the door behind them, dropping his bag on the floor he took his jacket off and put it on the hook. she hadn’t talked to him since he asked her why she was ticked off. biting his lip he groaned and just snapped.
“What the hell has you bent so fucking out of shape about the day that brought you into this fuckin’ world huh? Why are you going to try and drink yourself to death each fucking time it comes around-”
“Shut the fuck up, Winchester.” she snapped back, glaring daggers at him as she stood up, clenching her fists with her keys in hand as her back straightened out. “Excuse me? You never talk about it! you never fuckin’ talk about anything in your life prior to runnin’ into Sammy n’ I! yet some how Sammy knows more than I do!”
“Cause it’s not any of your damned business what happened back then alright?! you don’t need to know about my trauma, my baggage, everything that makes me hate myself and i’m not going to let you fuckin’ stand there and demand you know! Sammy only know’s cause i told him when i was finally comfortable doing so, you fuckin’ asshole!”
“I’m the asshole? Why the hell aren’t you comfortable telling me? huh? is it cause you think i’m not good enough?”, at this point. Dean has puffed up his chest and his cheeks n’ ears were getting red and he was clearly getting more and more pissed off that she wasn’t telling him why. why she didn’t wanna tell him. why she told Sammy, and not him. why Jodie seemed to make sure and ask if she was having “certain episodes” every time they saw each other and all this other crap that he seemed out of the dark.
“BECAUSE DEAN YOU DON’T NEED TO KNOW EVERYTHING. YOU DON’T NEED TO KNOW HOW MUCH MY PAST HAS MADE ME HATE MYSELF. HOW MUCH MY PAST HAS SHOWN ME AND TOLD ME I DON’T MATTER!”
“But it’s so important for me to know you have PTSD?” he crossed his arms and glared back at her. unclenching her fists she dropped her keys, almost like dropping a pin to a bomb, it set her off.
“Alright, you wanna know why it was so important for me to tell you I have PTSD?? why i got so mad when you brought me back? Fine. fucking fight. here’s your wish fuckin’ come true, dipshit.”
before he had time to respond she had already started talking. “I had to grow up at 5, and play “Mommy” to two kids who weren’t mine. in fact they were my little sisters. cause my parents didn’t wanna play parents anymore. and after the age of 7, my birthday wasn’t celebrated anymore cause “it’s not important”. every time i slipped up i was yelled at. or worse hit. later on after i turned seven after meeting with a counselor at school with some how convincing them to not tell my parents i had seen them, i was diagnosed with PTSD due to thing’s i don’t wanna mention aside from the fucking shit show i’ve already talked about.” at this point she had stepped forward and was glaring pins and daggers at him at this point. once more before he could speak she cut him off.
“ “You’re such a fucking waste of skin. Faith.” “You’re one of gods mistakes, Faith. Remember that.” “honestly you’ve ruined my life, Faith” “stop acting as if you matter to anyone Faith.” “ with each saying she said she took another step forward and looked him dead in the eye and snapping with a deep voice that seemed to be a way to protect herself while her lip quivered and was clearly trying not to cry. “Now imagine being told all of that on a daily basis until you were 18. since you were fucking 3. that’s my earliest memory.”
“And you know what, i truly believe they were right. I. Don’t. Matter. I don’t matter enough to have my birthday celebrated. i don’t matter enough to have a normal fucking thanks giving, Christmas, new years, forth of july. none of it. i don’t matter enough. that’s why i try and drink myself to death every fucking time my birthday rolls around.” finishing her sentence almost with certainty in her voice she took a few steps back and sat on her bed, hunched over, her elbows on her knees and her face in her hands. a slow shakey breath was let out as she tapped her foot. this. This is what Jodie meant by “Certain episodes”. those certain episodes were PTSD episodes.
at this point you can imagine how much of a dumbass and a dick Dean felt. his mouth sat slightly open as he was shocked that she just let it all spill out. though he knew it wasn’t all of it. but he wasn’t going to push. she wasn’t ready for all of that, the whole reason she didn’t wanna tell him was because she was trying to keep herself from going into an episode. “Dammit...” a tone slipped past his lips as he walked over to her and picked her up bridal style and crawled onto the bed and set her in his lap, holding her tight to his chest with his chin on her head. “Thats why you go by, Sunny now... it makes sense now.. i-- i shouldn’t have pushed you. i really shouldn’t have pushed you.. you were right though, i guess i am an ass.”
After an hour of sitting there trying to calm her down, her shaking finally calmed down, she could speak normally, though her speech was still slurred and a bit lispy still. letting out a shakey breath she looked at him and furrowed her brow a bit almost in a worried way “I-- i don’t get why you brought me back... i shouldn’t be here--” she was quickly cut off with a large hand on her cheek and turning her to face to look directly at him. she she was looking at him before but she wasn’t actually doing so. she was avoiding eye contact. “No. you should be here. thats why we brought you back. i-- We weren’t going to lose another person we cared about. not again..”
Sunny’s heart nearly jumped into her mouth as she looked at him wide eyed. surprised to high heavens and back that she was actually cared for by the two notorious Winchesters, by the one man she could actually adapt romantic feelings for, Dean. it took everything in her to not plant a kiss on his lips. everything.
Though little did she know he was trying everything to not kiss her as well, he didn’t know why but for some reason with her in his lap, and the way she was looking at him was making his heart do things he hadn’t felt in a while.
“what the hell--” passed through his head, almost zoned out before he snapped back to find she wasn’t in his lap anymore and actually across the room with her bag in hand and heading into the bathroom “I’m-- I’m gonna shower... thank you for calming me down.”
“No Problem--” he watched as the door shut only to rub his face and rest his head against the headboard. “God dammit....and we have to share a room the rest of the case...” a loud groan escaped his throat as he got up off the bed she claimed and sat on his trying to figure out if it was just a momentary thing.. or maybe it’s been something more. for a long time.

Author’s Note: I really love Steve from Stranger Things. If you haven’t watched Stranger Things, go do that. This takes place a few weeks after the end of the second season so some spoilers if you haven’t watched it. I hope you all like this and don’t forget that request are open! – Haley xx
“Hey,” I felt someone tapping my face. I groaned and cracked one eye open, “Y/N, we got stuff to do, you can’t sleep all day.” It was my little shit of a brother, Dustin.
“Go away,” I said and pushed his hand away. “It’s Sunday.”
“Exactly,” Dustin exclaimed. “You promised mom you would take me to the skating rink!”
I groaned again. “Dustin, no, I’m sleeping,” I said, snuggling up in my blanket. Dustin dramatically flopped his body across mine, getting his curly hair into my face. “You’re such a brat. Fine.”
Dustin laughed and sat up. “We’re meeting everyone there at noon.”
I sat up and grabbed my glasses from my nightstand. “Why so early?”
“Ms. Byers doesn’t want Will out at night without her,” Dustin explained. He jumped up and walked over to my bedroom door, “hurry up, Y/N!”
I rolled my eyes as Dustin left and climbed out of bed. I have been roped in with this monster killing business since Will Byers was taken last year. While Dustin and his friends went off with Eleven to Hawkins Middle School, Jonathan Byers asked me to help him and Nancy kill the Demogorgon at his house and of course, Steve had to stick his nose in.
But this time around, Steve was not an actual pain in the ass like before. Dustin explained to me that a smaller Demogorgon – demo-dog as he likes to call it – got out and we needed to kill it. Steve still had that baseball bat with the nails driven into it in his car and helped Dustin and I lure it out. Steve and I ended up being babysitters the rest of the time to some little shit children, but everything turned out to be okay.
It was now Christmas break and Dustin and his friends had made plans to meet up at the skating rink. Ms. Byers not wanting Will out at night without her was the reason that all of their hangouts have been either at the Byers house or in the middle of town, in the middle of the day, with some supervision. And today that was me. Not only did I promise our mom I would take Dustin, but I also promise Joyce I would always watch out for Will whenever he was with me.
I changed into today’s clothes and bounced my way into the kitchen. Mom was at work so all I heard was Dustin talking to one of his friends over the radio instead of my mom’s cheerful good morning! “Can we go already?” Dustin asked.
“I’m eating breaking, Dustin,” I pointed out. “It’s not even eleven yet, so calm down.”
I glanced over my shoulder and watch Dustin roll his eyes and talk into his headset again. “My sister is dragging me down.”
“I heard that!” I said and grabbed some cereal.
“You know who listens to good music?” Dustin said as we pulled into the skating rink parking lot.
I gripped the steering wheel tight. The entire ride over here, Dustin just blabbed about Steve. I know Dustin was star struck by him and really looked up to him, but talking about Steve Harrington all the time was annoying. “I swear to God, Dustin if you say St-“ I started to say.
“Steve.”
I jerked the car into a parking spot and Dustin went forward in his seat. “Stop talking about him,” I said.
“You’re rude, you know that,” Dustin said and climbed out of the car. I watch him rush across the parking lot over to where Lucas and Mike were at. I sighed and got out of the car as well.
I cupped my hands and called to them, “Hey dipshits, get in the building. It’s freezing outside!”
Dustin turned around and flipped me off before him and his friends took off inside. I pulled my coat closer to me and leaned against the car door. I glanced around the parking lot and noticed that the car that Lucas and Mike were standing at was Jonathan Byers car, which meant that he probably picked them up and brought them here. Which also probably meant that Nancy was with him.
I felt sad for Steve when he told me that him and Nancy were no longer a thing. “I’m a pretty shit boyfriend,” I remembered Steve saying.
“You’re not a shit boyfriend, Steve. Maybe it just wasn’t meant to be.”
I have known Steve since Kindergarten and Steve was not a shit person. He could sometimes be a lot to handle and his friends last year, Tommy and Carol were pure jerks, but Steve was a good person when you got to know him. He also had some of the best hair of our senior year.
I got off the car and ran up the steps to the staking rink. Going inside, my glasses fogged up, but I could hear Dustin. I followed his lispy voice over to the dining area. “Y/N, over here!” Dustin called. I could see the blurry outline of him and someone else at a booth, “sit with us.”
I plopped down next to that someone and took my glasses off to clean them. When I put them back on, I noticed I was next to Steve with Dustin in front of me. “Steve, why are you here?” I asked him.
“The little shit invited me,” Steve said, pointing at Dustin.
I narrowed my eyes at my brother and he just shrugged. “Y/N, you’re going to be all alone while me and everyone skates,” Dustin pointed out. “I thought you could use some company.”
“Dustin, I know you love Steve, but you gotta leave the poor guy alone,” I said.
A flash of disgust went over Dustin’s face. “I’m going to skate. You two have fun,” Dustin gave his purr before bolting out of the booth and over to his friends.
“I’m sorry I have an annoying brother,” I said to Steve. “He shouldn’t have asked you to come.”
“Nah, it’s okay. I like the dipshit,” Steve said. “Plus, I really don’t have anything else to do today.” I nodded. “So…,” he started, “do you not like to skate?”
I chuckled. “It’s fine to do, but I hate skating by myself. I’m completely awful and I always run into the other skaters. Whenever I’m here with my friends, I have to hold onto someone to make sure I don’t skate into people. What about you?”
Steve shrugged. He opened up his mouth to say something but fell flat. I saw that he was staring at something and moved my eyes to see what. My heart sank when I saw Nancy and Jonathan snuggled up in a booth across the dining area.
“Hey,” I said softly. “Steve, do you want to go skate?”
Steve did not answer so I nudged his shoulder with mine. “Huh?” he blinked.
“I asked if you wanted to go skate?”
Steve looked back at them before looking at me. “Sure.”
We slid out of the booth and over to the counter where the skates were at. We both paid for out skates and then went to the benches next to the rink. I quickly changed from my sneakers to the roller skates. I watch Steve fumble with the laces of the skates before finally getting everything tied. I stood up and held out my hand. “C’mon.”
Steve grabbed my hand with his and I helped him up. We held onto each other as we stepped out onto the rink. “What are you doing?” Dustin asked as he skated passed me.
“Having a fun time,” I answered him.
“With Steve?” Mike asked as he skated between us, breaking Steve and me apart.
“How are we supposed to make sure you shits don’t do something stupid,” Steve said, “if we’re all the way over there?”
“Yeah, but –,” Dustin started.
“No buts,” I said to him. “I have to watch you and I am.”
“With Steve on your arm,” Mike pointed out.
The tips of my ears burned. “Go away,” I said to Mike.
Still apart, I skated ahead of Steve, which was a bad idea because I lost my balance and started falling back. I felt hands on my waist and heard, “Geez, you weren’t lying,” in my ear.
Steve kept his hands on my waist as I got my footing back. “I told you. I’m a bad skater.”
“Good thing you’ve got me,” Steve grinned. I smiled up at him.
We skated a few times around the rink when I noticed that Steve still had one hand on my waist. We skated passed the boys and I noticed that all four of them gave Steve and I thumbs up and Dustin purred. I realized what was going on and stopped skating causing Steve to almost run into the people in front of us.
“Holy shit,” I mumbled.
“Hey, Y/N, what’s wrong?” Steve asked.
“I know what Dustin’s been doing this entire time – what all the boys have been doing. Oh my God,” I said, my face turning hot. “Steve. I think they’re trying to set us up.”
“What?” Steve asked before looking over at my little brother.
“On the way over here, Dustin wouldn’t shut up about you. He invited you here, so I wouldn’t be so alone, and now we’re skating together. That little shit!”
Steve looked back at me and I could see that the tips of his ears were bright red. “That wouldn’t be such a bad thing, right?” Steve mumbled.
“Of course not, Steve,” I whispered. “It’s just that… you’ve been through a lot these last few weeks…”
“That didn’t stop her,” Steve pointed out.
“Ask her out!” Dustin called from behind us.
“Ask her on a date!” Will yelled.
“Ask her to be your girlfriend!” Lucas yelled.
Steve and I turned around and waited for Mike to yell out what Steve should do. The boys skated passed us and Mike shrugged. “What? Just ask her on a date.”
“A date?” Steve asked, turning towards me causing me to laugh out loud. Blush spread over his nose and cheeks when he realized what he had said. “Y/N, would you like to go out with me tonight?”
“That would be amazing, Steve,” I whispered, pressing my lips to his warm cheek.

Sophie the Specialest Little girl in the World
Sophie was a sickly kid who never smiled, with tiny twisted legs and a withered left arm. Her right arm hung limp, useful only for balance. She missed a lot of school due to her underdeveloped lungs, and nearly died of pneumonia twice before the age of eight.
But nobody missed Sophie when she didn't go to school. Nobody would miss her if she'd died. We made fun of her, first hurling her crutches high into tall trees so she couldn't limp away, before performing cruel impersonations of her lispy speech, caused by a botched operation on her cleft palate.
To her teachers, Sophie was a hindrance. Their disgust was often audible, whenever Sophie's trembling, palsied hand was raised to ask ANOTHER dumb question.
Sometimes, teachers snapped. Told her she was useless. One even called her worthless. "Worthless little girl."
"Worthless little girl!" We repeated, at recess whilst Sophie slurped up her yoghurts, since she couldn't digest solids.
Sophie's timed comebacks only served to make matters worse.
"I'm not worthless!" She slurred. "I'm special. I'm the specialest little girl in the world." We rolled around with laughter.
"You're special alright, you fucking ugly little retard." I hissed. And immediately knew I'd gone too far.
The laughter stopped. "Not cool, dude." People muttered.
Sophie's nine-year-old's eyes burned pitch-black with hatred. I lowered my gaze, knowing I'd broken the unwritten rules of schoolyard taunts. Everyone else sorta drifted away, except Sophie and me.
When I looked up at her, she was smiling.
That evening, when my dad got home, I asked if he remembered anything from earlier than nine years ago. "Of course, dumb-ass!" He laughed. "I'm fucking thirty."
"Yeah but do you really, really remember?" I asked again, my young voice trembling.
He gathered some old photos, mainly of my mom and him drinking in various bars. "Look." He said. "This was before my brother's wedding. Thirteen years ago. You happy, weirdo?"
"Yes, but… do you really, REALLY remember that night? Or do you see these photos, and THINK that you remember?"
My father's face changed. I realised he was thinking. I'd never seen him think, before. He held a photo of my mom, right up close to his drunken face. "That night, I told your mom she'd best stick with me, as I'm the best she'd ever get."
"B-but," I whimpered, "do you definitely remember saying that, or do you just KNOW you said it?"
That night, my dad called my mom. They yelled a lot, but this time was different. He sounded rattled. He asked her about times they'd spent together. About whether she REALLY remembered.
That day, Sophie had told me a terrible secret.
Told me why she was "specialest."
You see, Sophie was a gift, given by some benevolent god.
Without Sophie, none of us would exist.
Our world had begun the day Sophie was born into it.
"And," she spat, whilst coughing blood into her gnarled little fist, "your world will end the day I'm gone."
