No but Astarion wanting to be valued for more than sex and seen for something that's not just sex regardless of who romances him and Wyll wanting a chaste and genuine romance with sincere and committed courtship with no sex regardless of who romances him is insaneeeeee. I know everyone's talked about this before but everytime I stop to think about it I lose my mind. They couldn't be more narratively bound I'm clawing at the bars of my cage
#I put my lengthy tags in a reblog if you want.#And yes ofc Wyll teaching Astarion compassion and Astarion teaching Wyll to value himself and advocate for himself#Make them perfect for each other#But THIS to me is the nail in the coffin (pun intended) of why they are meant for each other#Wyll would not fall for Astarion's seduction attempts he is the only companion who would not give in to having meaningless sex w him#Or if not meaningless sex then immediate sex ykwim#Likewise Wyll's identity as a monster hunter and a chivalrous champion of the people would make him the prime target of Astarion's whims#Because who better to protect a monster but the monster hunter TURNED INTO A MONSTER himself.#Astarion would jump on the chance to use Wyll's devil transformation to his advantage and Wyll is THE ONLY ONE it wouldn't work on.#Wyll may have fallen first but Astarion fell harder than Elturel when he finally realised Wyll is GENUINELY good#And that he GENUINELY does not want sex and does not love Astarion for the possibility of sex#He asks for a fucking dance. He asks for a fucking dance before he ever even entertains the idea of sex. And he is steadfast about it#And astarion would play along with the romance just until he can get Wyll to help him kill Cazador#But would inevitably fall in love with Wyll along the way no matter what because Wyll is just genuine and chaste no matter what#“Wyll is the type of man I used to dream of marrying. When I was 13” he is doomed to fall for Wyll no matter what and he hates it#wyllstarion#Wyll Ravengard#astarion ancunin#bg3 astarion#bg3 wyll#Bloodpact#Coolest fucking ship name ever also. No one does it like them

RealAgeAU - Godly Lessons
And the one that was third place in the poll!
I had this one ready for a while now so we are uploading it today!!
Timeline wise this is 6 months after Nightmare turned into a baby (so about 3 months after the gang arrived in Farmtale) We good there?
First Drabble (Thanks to @spotaus for the original prompt) Prev Drabble Next Drabble
*---------------*
It took them ages.
And when Dream says ages he means AGES to find Reaper.
It doesn't help that Reaper hardly interacts with anyone. He is so work focused it is crazy.
But, as Blue had said, Reaper was the only one they could ask!
Well... Dream had asked Ink and Error before but Ink had just tilted his skull confused at the question while Error just looked unamused and asked him why the hell he would ask him.
Dream makes a mental note to eventually explain to those two that they may be ascending to godhood soon, if they aren't already there. Look. Dream knows he should tell them this and help them but at the moment Dream is having issues with his own powers.
And honestly wiht those two still having their fifth truce (Look, Ink keeps forgetting they had a truce and so they just keep resigning the same truce agreement.) he still has time before he needs to explain the basics of godhood to them.
Not to forget that Dream is rather unsure nowadays about his own god status. He thought gods didn't change?! They had domains and stuff!
Okay so maybe Dream didn't know a lot about god things and only knew the things that... he had been told ages ago. Either in small snippets by his mother but those had always sounded like an afterthought.
Honestly the things he knows about being a god is all things he had... heard from those... those... horrible villagers... and later people from across the multiverse.
Either way, it means Dream is looking for more information and Blue is helping. Honestly Dream is unsure what he did to deserve Blue as best friend and Dream makes a mental note to somehow thank him for it later. There has to be something Dream can do to make Blue happy and show how thankful he is.
But that is for later.
Now, they are looking for Reaper.
And... well... with him being Death...
Dream has to physically stop Blue from jumping to someones defence as the human in this universe goes about the genocide run. Dream starts to regret his decision to let Blue come along.
"Huh. You aren't suposed to be here."
Dream looks up and smiles "Reaper! It is so good to finally see you!"
Reaper just looks confused before giving a grin "Really now? Why is that?"He winks before his face grows harder as he glances around "Also you two really can not be here."
Blue huffs "We wouldn't be here if you were easier to find. Come on Dream let me go I need to help them!"
Dream shakes his skull "No Blue you can't!"
Reaper sighs as he rubs his face "Okay. You need to talk?" he checks his phone and nods "Let me finish my job here quickly and we will talk on the surface of this universe. Just teleport to the other side of the barrier and I will be there in a bit." and he shoots off after the human, already becoming invisible again.
Dream has to drag Blue through a portal.
They sit in the grass as Blue glares at the ground.
"I am sorry Blue-"
Blue shrugs as he looks away "We could have helped them..."
Dream sighs and nods "I know... but we aren't suposed to interfere in other universes or stories..."
Blue huffs as he mutters "You don't have that problem when your brother does something or Ink wants to interact with people when he isn't suposed to." he doesn't look at him.
Dream frowns as he rubs his arm. Yeah... that is fair... Dream is a hypocrit, he knows that already.
They sit in silence before a chuckle "Wow. What is going on here? Did someone die?" and Reaper grins cheeky.
Blue groans but Dream stands up "I need your help"
Reaper blinks before letting out a long sigh "Dream. We have been over this. I am not picking sides."
Dream shakes his skull "This isn't about that!" he rubs his arm before forcing it out "I am losing my powers."
Reaper immediantly stares at him "What?!" Reaper looks him up and down much more critically.
Dream nods as he looks to the side "It is going slowly. But it is happening... it has been happening slowly but surely over almost half a year now."
Reaper shoots upright "And you only decided to search for answers now!"
Dream feels embarresed "We have been looking for almost 4 months now! But I also have other stuff to do as guardian of positivity!" he crosses his arms.
Blue leans over "Also you are hard to find."
Reaper raises a brow "Just ask Ink. You guys are like roommates half the time."
Blue and Dream share a look.
Reaper looks pained "Oh no what is going on with them now?"
Dream thinks about how to say it before just throwing it out there "They don't know they are gods."
Reaper stops, stares and groans loudly as he covers his face "I thought! I thought they knew what they were doing?! They call themselves god of creation and god of destruction for crying out loud!"
Dream rubs his cheek and shrugs. Blue nods "Yeah. that is what tripped us up too. We asked them if they had heard of gods losing their powers. and Ink just looked confused while Error asked why we asked him. And told us to ask a god instead of them."
Reaper looks so tired before rubbing his forehead "Okay. okay. Good thing those two are on a break of their weird war again. Does explain why they would keep fighting instead of just working together to make sure both get their job done." Reaper frowns as he rubs his face "I will have to ask the others about this... this may become an issue. Someone has to teach them and explain it to them but Ink has the memory of a squirrel and Error doesn't listen unless he respects you..." Reaper looks thoughtful as he mutters "Maybe it is best to go to him... Error and Nightmare already work together and Error respects him..." he frowns and huffs "Will have to find him first..."
Dream flinches at the name of his twin as Blue steps over "Anyway... Dream said with them having their truce that can wait. We went looking for you in the hopes you got answers for Dream."
Reaper pauses and clearly thinks it over "I personally don't... but if anyone has answers..." he looks considering to the side "I can go ask a friend of mine first. See if she has answers. if she doesn't we will need to go to Asgore, king of the gods and god of the sky... he will probably know but..." reaper pulls a face "he doesn't like multiverse stuff generally..." Reaper looks over "You two okay with waiting here for a moment?"
Both dream and Blue nod and take a seat to wait again. Reaper disappears and silence returns.
In the end, Reaper's friend did not have answers and they were forced to go to the land of the gods, or universe of the gods. Which, caused a tiny issue with Blue being there. Blue had just looked at him and asked if Dream wanted him to come. To which Dream had said obviously and so now Blue was Dream's chosen warrior to hopefully let this go smoothly.
They manage to get into the universe and it is glorious beyond anything that Dream could imagine. it is bright and colourful and so many powerful beings make their ways around. They all look curiously at them as they go by.
Reaper whispers "Do make sure to just address me with Sans here. Either that of Death. They don't like the idea that I as god don't go by my name or title when I am making my way around." Blue nods as Dream gives his own agreement.
They manage to get to the hall of gods and find the Asgore of this universe. the kind of all gods and the very sky. Which, with Dream knowing the story and how the monsters longed for the sky and all it held, understands is a very big deal.
They arrive to the end of the hall and Reaper nods to Asgore "Asgore."
Asgore looks over and frowns "Death, I thought I told you what i thought about this interacting with mortals." he looks very displeased.
Reaper answers smoothly "I know, Dream however isn't a mortal. He is a god, just not from our universe. The mortal with him is his chosen warrior Blue."
Asgore huffs but the irritations melt away easily "I see..." he smiles at Dream "Dream you say? You must still be very new to godhood. I can only assume Death brought you to me for a specific reason."
Dream gives a slow nod and after an encouraging smile of Blue he starts talking "I supose I am still a bit new to this all. I may be over 500 years but many of those years were spend locked away. The problem is... I am losing my magic and powers. I do not understand why."
Asgore frowns as he nods "I see. Were you cursed by any chance?"
Dream thinks it over "I don't think so. I at least don't remember a single moment which stands out where i could have been cursed."
Asgore nods and waves at him to continue.
Dream does just that "I have been losing my powers slowly over the last few months. It started with being unable to passively make others happy. At this point I can hardly feel emotions as it is."
Asgore suddenly chuckles as he leans back "Well, of course you can't do that. You are no god of emotions."
Dead silence. Blue and Reaper share a shocked look as Dream sputters "but I am?! I am the god of positive emotions!"
Asgore tilts his head "No you are not. I can sense that you have no domain."
Dream sputters and glares "But I do have a domein!"
Asgore chuckles as he waves off his anger "Had. You HAD a domain."
Dream feels hismelf freeze "what...?"
Asgore nods "You are losing your powers because you lost your domain. You aren't losing your godhood however, that is something of that is yours by right of birth and a great power is needed to take that from you. But your powers are leaving you as those were connected to the domain you were connected to."
Dream stares down at the ground.
Asgore continues on, either unaware of the actual crisis Dream is experiencing or he just doesn't care "Now that the balance is able to establish itself again it has no need for either you or your counterpart."
Dream blinks and looks up "Balance?"
Asgore looks smug "Yes of course I know what your domain used to be. A god of Balance. together with your counterpart your duty is to establish and keep balance over your area. In this case, the focus was on emotions and the area was quite large with this so called multiverse."
Dream is seconds away from hyperventilating.
"Remember Dream. You are to keep balance." Nim sounds so proud.
Oh gods.
Nightmare looking at him annoyed "Dream what are you doing?! You are going to tip over the balance if you keep interrupting my work!"
Oh no.
"-It doesn't mean i don't like them. Just, even too much of a good thing is bad. you know?" Blue smiles at him.
Oh he is so dumb.
Reaper luckily sees that he needs some assistance and continues the question "Meaning that Dream needs a new domain? And that will give him powers again?"
Asgore nods "Indeed."
Blue looks between them confused "But what restored this balance then?"
Asgore looks annoyed at Blue for a moment but when Dream looks at him expecting he humors them "I do not know. I supose something unbalanced it. But that with time and the suport you and your counterpart gave it it managed to recover and heal."
So there may be a new tree of emotions somewhere in the multiverse-
WAIT!
Dream steps forwards, feeling much more panicked "You mean. That whatever unbalanced it must have been reversed?!"
Asgore raises a brow "I just said that yes."
Dream feels the panic return. Because the only thing he can image unbalancing it. Would have been the tree being cut down. The tree and the apples of his mother's tree had been the thing keeping balance.
Nightmare ate the apples...
Where is his twin?
Dream takes a few steps backwards "I... I need to go. Thank you. I need to go now." His brother. Where is his twin? Is he hurt? What if... what if these powers disappearing are also disappearing for him?
Those apples had healed him... kept him alive...
Dream knows that much, Dream had seen the images in the book. The only reason Nightmare survived was because of those apples.
Can... can Nightmare survive without those apples in his system?!
Dream doens't know what Asgore said but he rushes back to the enterance, blue already by his side again and looking worried.
They get to the edge and Dream teleports them out again.
As soon as they are back Dream feels himself shake and Blue hugs him "What is wrong? What did you realise?"
Moments later Reaper appears "Why did you do that?! Now i need to deal with a ticked off Asgore and-"
Dream breaks "Nightmare may be dying!" sobs break through as he collapses in Blue's hold.
silence.
Dream hadn't seen his brother in months. Not once ever since Dream started losing his powers. He had only seen the gang members once in a while. They always left quickly as soon as Dream even started talking about Nightmare.
Dream had been losing his powers and magic for half a year now and not once did he question if it may be affecting Nightmare.
He sobs as he falls to his knees, Blue keeps holding him.
Reaper floats closer but still out of reach "What do you mean? He is also a god. those are hard to kill." he grins a tiny bit but there is a nervous edge to it.
Dream sobs as he looks up. "The only reason he is alive is because he ate the very thing that helped keep the balance..." he sobs again "if the balance is restored... and all the magic we have connected to it disappears..."
Reaper seems to realise what Dream realised before cursing "Fuck."
Dream sobs as he hugs himself.
He doesn't even know where Nightmare is. He should have started looking for him months and months ago. As soon as he found that storybook, earlier even! When he realised his powers were acting weird. Make amends.
But Dream had been a coward. He had been afraid that Nightmare would never forgive him for his foolish and blind behaviour. Dream had figured he could try and ease their relationship a bit first. Maybe a truce like Ink and Error, and work from there on trying to repair their broken relationship.
But turns out... He may have been too late already.
Half a year too late.

First Drabble Prev Drabble Next Drabble
Why is it that each time i do a Dream chapter it is a gutpunch? I honestly really like dream. It is just, from his side this whole story is more of a horror story than a family comedy...
Oh well.

I’ve been thinking of an AU where Kuina lives and, trying to avoid standing in her way of her dream, Zoro ends up finding a new dream and becomes a more peaceful character.
For the life of me though I don’t have any ideas what that new dream would be, I want this version of Zoro to be very different from canon Zoro due to his upbringing and how he focused on different skills in his life, but I can’t say exactly what skills he would have if he went down a different route.
Also, in this Au Zoro still joins the strawhats, Kuina was asked to join the crew at one point but she has a similar deal to Ace where she prefers to travel more alone away from Zoro so she can personally pursue and keep an eye on Mihawk.

I was thinking about future Florelia as one does…
I really do like the idea of Flora eventually becoming Alfea’s Headmistress. I can see Griselda wanting to keep her position and not take over Faragonda once she retires.
Flora would probably start by teaching classes, maybe even a new subject like Herbology that goes a little more in depth than Potionology. Maybe even does exchange classes with Cloud Tower.
She does continue her Realm/Land restoration projects on the side, and she would definitely push the school to take part in it too. Bringing students along to heal magically destroyed lands.
Then of course as Faragonda retires, she would ask Flora to take over and she would be thrilled and so honoured.
At the same time, as cute as it would be if Helia took over Red Fountain, I don’t think he would actually want that. It would feel like ultimately resigning to a fate he once tried to escape from.
I do think he would have taught at RF at some point. He’s not the most passionate about teaching but he is good at it. He’s patient and kind, and very understanding. He would still want to pursue Art and I think he would do a good mix of both. At first he’ll feel like he needs to choose but eventually he realises this is what makes him happy and he’s found a nice balance that works for him.
But you know who I’d love to see take over RF, Timmy.
I like the idea of Riven, too. But I feel like Timmy and Saladin share similar characteristics. As much as Riven would grow into becoming a good leader, I think he would enjoy taking over Codatorta’s role more, especially since it’s more hands-on and field work.
Timmy and Flora power-duo is so underrated!!!
But yeah, it’d be really cute for Helia and Flora being teachers at the respective schools, then Flora taking over and Helia going to visit her and him just being chill and enjoying life (painting until morning, wrangling dragons after breakfast then heading on over to Alfea for a little lunch with his wife 🥲) happily ever afters im gonna cry

Dreamling Christmas Fic
[You can read here or on AO3!]
Dream didn't get it quite right the first December the 24th that he spent with Hob. He arrived late in the evening after giving Hob space to spend the holiday with his friends. Hob smiled at him warmly as he opened the door for Dream. (He learned to knock instead of appearing in the living room for this purpose only – to see Hob's welcoming smiles.) Dream had no reason to suspect that this wasn't how their Christmas was supposed to go.
Dream kissed Hob on the cheek before giving him his present – a silver bracelet, beautiful and just on the side of unearthly to be clear that it was created in the Dreaming but not raise suspicion. It looked gorgeous on Hob's wrist. Dream couldn't stop looking and Hob laughed at him warmly before giving him his gift. He was shy about it, apologetic even, “I didn't know what to get a God”. Dream assured him that he didn't need anything, but that only seemed to make Hob sad, so he quickly changed the topic, opening the sparkly gift bag.
It was a dream catcher. He was familiar with those – they had been around for a long time. Dream smiled and asked if there was a particular dream that Hob wished to catch. Then, they made love on the living room couch, watched a movie, and went to sleep. The day went how Dream expected it to and the following morning as well – Hob made breakfast for them and they ate at the bar isle in the kitchen, barstools dragged close to each other so they could remain snuggled close. Then, Dream returned to his realm, satisfied, but to his shock, a certain air of sadness that Hob refused to acknowledge clung to the human for two weeks after that.
When the next Christmas started approaching, the sadness from last year returned, and Dream was determined to fix whatever mistake he had made. He tried to figure it out alone at first reading, peeking into people's dreams, researching the modern Christmas traditions. He learned that the holiday was celebrated with one's family and friends, and that gifts were given, and he failed to see where that had gone wrong. There was a bit of confusion about when the gifts were to be unpacked, but Dream doubted that was the problem.
He consulted Lucienne next. Subtly hinted that he would not mind if she took a closer look at Hob's dreams in December – it didn't count as cheating if Dream wasn't the one who was looking, right? She presented him with a short list of gifts that the human might appreciate and a stern, disapproving look.
Dream acquired all of the gifts, not yet decided which one he would give Hob, if all, or just one, or some. He was surprised by the simplicity of the gifts – a heated pillow, something called the gravity blanket, two new sets of pyjamas, an expensive suit (he probably didn't need to get the most expensive one he could find, but Hob deserved the best, and money meant nothing to Dream), warm socks, normal sock, a set of new glasses for Hob's kitchen because one too many have been dropped and broken in the past year.
Could it be the gift, Dream wondered? Hob never took the bracelet off, frequently had it polished, loved it. No, Dream didn't think he went wrong with the gift last year. It was time to do the one thing he feared – consult Matthew, a friend and former human.
When even the raven seemed stunned by the fact that Hob didn't enjoy the previous Christmas, even after all the time Dream and Matthew spent picking out the best wrapping paper for the bracelet, Dream began to worry that Hob just didn't like him on that day. But then the bird tilted his head and asked Dream to tell him how the day went one more time.
“Could it be that he wanted to spend Christmas with you? Did he think that you couldn't make time for him?”
“I had asked him how he wanted to spend the holiday. He had said that he would probably do the same as every year.”
Matthew sighed, in the tone that told Dream that he had fucked up. “Yep, he definitely didn't want to bother you or hold you up from your duties. But he wanted to spend Christmas with you.”
Dream still didn't understand. He knew that humans, even Hob, sometimes didn't ask for whate they wanted, especially from their loved ones. Hell, even Dream was guilty of doing that. But… “But we did – we spent Christmas together,” he argued.
If Matthew could roll his eyes, he would. “Christmas is more than just the day and gifts. It's decorating the tree together. Kissing under the mistletoe. Being lazy in the morning and postponing going out to all those parties that you've scheduled because you're just too comfortable. It's the Christmas spirit. You were only there for the main event, but not for—”
Dream didn't hear the rest of it because he knew what he had to do. He would thank Matthew later. First, there was a heated blanket in need of unpacking.
Dream looked out carefully for the day Hob would be decorating the tree. The flat was filled with the sound of Christmas carols and Hob was wearing a horribly ugly sweater and sweatpants. When he opened the door and saw Dream, he was surprised, asked: “What are you doing here? It's 10am.”
“I did not want to miss this,” Dream replied, and by the look on Hob's face that answered exactly zero of Hob's questions. He let himself in, followed by the surprised human. When Dream stood in front of the tree, the scent of fresh pine filling the air, he realized he should have asked Matthew a few follow-up questions.
“It's mostly a matter of improvisation,” Hob said behind him knowingly. “Just take an ornament and put it somewhere. Don't worry about making it balanced or aesthetically pleasing. It'll always look great in the end. Mostly because I have too many ornaments.”
Dream watched carefully as Hob took a little statue of an angel from one of the boxes on the floor and hanged it on a thin branch. He followed the example, carefully handling a glass ornament, for a second admiring the craft that went into it – he could tell it was hand-made, and the creator filled it with their dreams of the winters past. When the ornament was securely hanging on one of the top branches – something so beautiful deserved such high position – Hob spun Dream around and kissed him.
“What was that for?” Dream asked curiously. Not that he'd ever turn down a kiss, but he needed to know if he had done right coming here.
“Because I love you,” Hob replied, grinning. “And also because we will need all the strength we can get to hang all of these,” he gestured to the boxes, and Dream had to admit that there were too many. He had time, though. He would always make time for his greatest friend and lover.
Almost two hours later, the tree was decorated with lights, ornaments, bows and sparkly chains that tickled horribly when Dream touched them. Hob collapsed on the couch after he put all the boxes away, tired. Dream seized his chance, going to one of the living room cabinets with purpose and taking out the gravity blanket. He had summoned it from its hiding space within the Dreaming, but he knew it unsettled humans when things were summoned from thin air, so he tried to take a bit of the mystique out of the gesture.
“Has this always been there?” Hob asked, a smirk on his lips telling Dream that he knew exactly what happened.
“Yes,” the Endless replied stubbornly before covering them both with the blanket. He could not truly enjoy its effects – human-created objects didn't have an effect on him unless he let them, and he was hesitant to let this one affect him – but Hob groaned, melting into the couch.
“I'm never getting up again,” Hob sighed, closing his eyes. He was asleep within a minute, leaving Dream confused. He was hoping for Hob's subtle guidance. Christmas was only two days away and there was so much they needed to do, but Hob was comfortable, and Dream wouldn't want to wake him up even if the house started burning.
Mentally going through the list of traditions they could enjoy together, Dream decided that he could make some dough for cookies. His mind was full of images of happy couples baking together, laughing, singing. He knew Hob would enjoy that – he enjoyed food and enjoyed making Dream try food.
Hob, contrary to his words, managed to free himself from under the blanket about an hour later. He looked like he wasn't sure that he wasn't still dreaming when he saw Dream in the kitchen, carefully kneading homemade dough. But he didn't question it and instead took out a box of cookie cutters from the cupboard and turned on the oven.
Hob's happiness radiated off him for the reminder of the day, and Dream felt happy that his lover was happy. When he had to return to the Dreaming – this was a busy part of the year, after all, and Lucienne would not be pleased if she had to handle it all by herself – there was not a hint of sadness in Hob's heart.
After the success of the previous day, Dream became a bit more at ease. He returned in the afternoon of the next day to watch a movie with Hob, drink hot chocolate and maybe secretly try to peek into Hob’s mind to figure out what the best present would be.
A heated pillow would help with the ache in Hob’s neck, but then Dream’s hands did a much better job with a massage, especially if he made his body slightly warmer than was normal. Hob’s pyjamas needed a refreshment, all of them being threadbare and washed out, but Dream much better preferred him without clothes at night. Socks were cheap, not worthy of Dream of the Endless’s lover. The suit that he had picked out was great, but he wanted to give it to Hob before Christmas, so he could wear it to the party that he was invited to.
Hob seemed happy with the time they spent together, happier even than the previous day. Still, Dream was worried about the upcoming day. He spent the time in the Dreaming distracted, his work taking twice the amount of time it should. But in the end, all dreams were ready for the big day, ready to help children all over the world sleep peacefully and dream. Nightmares were ready for people what needed the final push to decide to turn their life around. (And for people who Dream didn’t like.) Dream would, of course, be present to supervise, at least for a couple hours. But first, he needed to drop by the waking world and give Hob the suit.
“I will be back in an hour,” he informed Lucienne before grabbing a fistful of sand from his pouch. He noticed her stern gaze and held off.  “What?” he asked.
“You will be back?” she raised her eyebrows. “It is Christmas, and everything is ready. Won’t you spend the time with your companion? Is that not why you had been working so hard the past days?”
With a confused frown, Dream nodded. “It is. So I can spend most of the day with him. But he is visiting some friends, first.”
Lucienne was about to give it to him gently – he could see it in her eyes, the understanding and sympathy. Matthew was faster. “Boss,” he said sternly. “Don’t you dare leave him alone on Christmas.”
Dream did not understand. Hob would be the opposite of alone. But he did not want to admit to his confusion in front of his subjects, so he nodded. “It seems I won’t be returning until tomorrow, Lucienne,” he nodded to her, and then left.
Hob was not surprised when he opened the door. He grabbed Dream by the lapels of his coat and pulled him inside, kissing him until they were both out of breath. “Nice to see you,” he panted against Dream’s lips when they parted.
Dream, ever the clueless idiot around his immortal lover, didn’t know how to react lest he caused Hob to arrive late. “I have something for you,” he said, pressing the suit into Hob’s arms. “For the party.”
“It’s more of a brunch,” Hob laughed, struggling to see what he was looking at until his eyes finally found shape in the mass of rich fabrics. His eyes widened.
“Wear it today, please,” Dream said before Hob could start arguing that it was too expensive. Still, the human frowned, scowling at the brand at the collar of the suit jacket. Dream made the words disappear off the tag with a wave of his hand, which didn’t impress Hob.  “Please,” he repeated. “For me.”
Finally, Hob relented, going to the bedroom to change out of his slacks and light blue shirt into the suit. Dream waited somewhat impatiently, trying not to peek into the room, hiding in the shadows that were always all too happy to serve him. Finally, Hob walked out, and Dream forgot to breathe.
There was a remark on Hob’s lips, but it died before it could be given voice. He tilted his head and watched Dream curiously while the Endless took in the look. Did Hob know how much it pleased Dream to see Hob in the clothes that he had given him? He couldn’t have. Dream never said so and he tried not to make a habit out of dressing his lover in expensive robes. The modern era no longer called for gestures like that. Yet, there was a smirk on Hob’s face as he reached up to play with his ear nervously, the bracelet peeking from under his sleeve, pulling Dream’s eyes to it like magnets.
“I will be severely overdressed,” Hob said finally.
“We will be,” Dream corrected. It was a subtle question, and when a grin spread on Hob’s face, he finally made his mind. He would be happy to wait for Hob at home, but maybe Hob really wanted him to come to the party.
“Go change, then,” Hob urged him.  “We really need to go.”
Dream nodded and walked to the bedroom, changing within the blink of an eye into an equally fancy suit. His was black, though, while Hob’s was grey. When he walked out again, the human whistled.
Dream knew some of the people they met at the brunch. Hob introduced him to the rest, presenting him as his mysterious boyfriend. Those who had never seen Dream before laughed and the rest rolled their eyes fondly. The atmosphere of the party was strange, lacking the Christmas spirit that Dream had learned to look out for. Hob later explained that it was a work thing, not everyone was friends and some people barely stood each other.
They headed to the New Inn next. There were only two people working, those who volunteered or even insisted, because Hob wouldn’t force anyone to work on that day. Their patrons and friends came to celebrate with them, bringing a much more pleasant atmosphere. Dream dared to be bold, taking Hob by the elbow and leading him to an archway where a small piece of mistletoe was hanged. He kissed him much longer than was appropriate and much less than he truly wanted.
Hob was teary-eyed the rest of the time. Soon, people started filtering out to spend the day with their families, and the New Inn was empty by 2pm. Dream helped Hob clean up after they shooed the remaining employees away to go home and celebrate, and then they went upstairs.
It was different than last year. Dream was confident when he helped Hob fix them a nice dinner, didn’t pause to seek Hob’s guidance as he opened a bottle of wine for them, and after they ate, he knew it was the perfect time to bring Hob to the tree and present him with a sparkly gift bag.
“Don’t tell me you have any more gifts!” Hob groaned, but he was laughing, his eyes shining like stars and fond.
Dream frowned. He didn’t— Right, the suit. He counted that as a gift to himself more than Hob. And the blanket was a gift, but it helped Hob sleep, so it was more for Dream, again. He shook his head. “I know you will love this one,” he promised, ignoring Hob’s “I loved all of them.”
When Hob opened the bag, he started laughing. The tears finally spilled from his eyes, and for a horrific moment, Dream was scared that he had miscalculated. But then he received the sweetest kiss he had gotten in all of his entire existence, and his nerves were calmed.
“How did you know I ran out of nice socks?” Hob asked, digging through the endless number of socks in the bag. (Maybe not endless, but this would last him for years to come.)
Dream could say something like lucky guess, or admit to cheating and peeking into Hob’s dreams, but in the end, all he had to do was pointedly look down at Hob’s bare feet, a toe poking out of the tip of his black sock.
“Right,” the human chuckled and kissed Dream again. Then he sighed, for a moment showing a hint of sadness – melancholy, Dream recognised – before his face filled with overwhelming happiness. “Thank you,” he whispered. “I haven’t had a nice Christmas in years.”
Nice Christmas. Dream smiled. Yes, he thought. I have made this day nice.

robin wright really gave everything as buttercup in hindsight. pity she didn’t have any lines to deliver
#rewatching the princess bride is a rollercoaster for me EVERYtime#when I was a kid I was always so frustrated that I didn’t like buttercup that much bc I only cared about female characters generally#then when I got older I realised that she was an uninteresting character#and that that was why#yet another bit older and I finally reconciled with the fact that she was poorly written#now? today? she’s not poorly written! and she’s excellently acted! the issue is that she’s BARELY written#she doesn’t have enough lines to establish her character the way westley or inigo is! or even fezzik or vizzini or humperdinck#even miracle max and his wife have more character! bc they’re written to have character!#buttercup is written to be the perfect romantic heroine and damsel! which means they can’t let her have any character!#but robin wright was giving it all despite that!#her face journey of expressions after westley explains the evolution of the dread pirate roberts YELLS the potential for characterising#buttercup#only she didn’t have a line to say! she just had to walk off and fall in a quagmire!#grrrrrr!!!#I love the princess bride but it would’ve been even better if she’d gotten some lines and son character direction bc she could’ve worked#she could’ve worked magic I’m sure of it#so we circle back around to ‘its because a man wrote her’. obviously.#I love the lines she does have btw. they all fuck. she pushes westley down a hill. let her speak more!!!!!!!#my dream scenario is a sequel with all the same cast of actors where buttercup gets to speak#all in the same style of genre and special effects as in the original ofc
