Hey Folks!
I'm going to share something very near and dear to my heart.
When I was a kid, we had a very very bad time when the 2008 recession hit. We'd also lost a family member and - as a ten year old kid with ZERO idea how to handle any of that - I turned to videogames.
Specifically, a point-and-click adventure game called Blades of Exile. This game got me through that summer, and all it's sequels have given me hundreds of hours of happiness.
But it's an older game. Older than me! It came in a cd called "1000 best games for windows" - the game needs so much work to get working on a new machine, if it'll work at all.
That's where this comes in.
Blades of Exile as an open-source project has been going for a little while, but I think the rest of the world needs to know what a wonderful game this is.
"But Meg," you ask "What makes Blades of Exile so amazing?"
Yes. The graphics are old. Yes. The spellcasting is clunky. |
But the story is flipping amazing.
So take this piece of my heart here, and support this project!

ᴘʀᴏɴᴏᴜɴꜱ‣ She/They
ʙᴜɪʟᴅ‣ Toned
Dena was Felize's 1st (& initially ONLY) friend
The scars on her face are from a fight with Emos (however, unlike their 1st encounter, she was prepared & got him back just as well)
They had a good relationship with Ahlf; they felt sorry for him after learning he decided to live alone instead of with his family (his death hit them hard leaving them feeling both guilty & angry 😥)
She's a pescatarian (preferring to avoid non-seafood-based meat) 🐟
Despite starting out as "begrudged allies", Felize bonded with Irus during their travels & became good friends
Her eyes may at first appear to be pitch-black, but in the right lighting, their deep warm brown can easily be seen
After the destruction of Salt Bay, Felize decided to keep a little pouch filled with a sand/dirt/rock mixture on their belt (just in case 🙂)
Her preferred combat style is "combo" (favouring neither offence/defence)
Felize enjoys teasing Oren, but only when others aren't around/are unaware (they don't want to make it/him a spectacle)
She cherishes the new connections with her maternal family (especially Zikar), & will continue fighting to protect them
At 1st Felize was shocked/elated when seeing their mother was alive & well; those feeling quickly soured into betrayal/resentment though when Anu let it slip that Salyra had a "new" family (though they refuse to take that out on Rana since she's just a child) ... besides obviously feeling hurt, Felize doesn't know how to deal with it all (especially the fact that to their knowledge mama NEVER told anyone she WASN'T dead) 😔
After talking with Danzor & Rana, Felize decided that having a relationship with Rana was ALL that she wanted from this new "family" (especially after Danzor vehemently rebuffed her EVERY time she expressed negative emotions towards Salyra 😒)
In their letter to Zikar they decided to inform the family of Salyra's life in Ishari (her mother & brother deserve to know that she'd abandoned them too) 💔
When their divine blessing awoke they resisted it & lost consciousness

Introducing Skirmish Mode: Variety and Customization in Stardust Exile
Skirmish mode unleashes for Stardust Exile space RTS game on Linux, Steam Deck, and Windows PC. Thanks to the creative talents of developer Apseren. Which is available on both Steam Early Access and Humble Store.
For all you space strategy fans out there — Stardust Exile now has a major update, introducing a brand new Skirmish mode. This update adds a single-player component to the already awesome MMORTS mode. Due to give you even more ways to conquer the stars on Linux and Steam Deck.
So, what's Skirmish mode all about? It's all about variety and customization. You can now generate galaxies that aren’t just the Milky Way, with different sizes, densities, star systems, and opponents. You can also tweak things like the Research / Tech Tree, Planetary Outposts, and Pirates. Due to turn them on or off depending on how you want to play.
There are pre-set scenarios in Skirmish mode to dive into:
End Exile: Your mission is to make your way to the Solar System and end your exile. Sounds epic, right?
Quick Match: Perfect for a short game. It's a small-scale conquest with a few factions and a limited number of spaceships. Quick and intense.
Galactic War: Ready for a full-scale war in Skirmish mode? The empire with the most resources stored up when the timer runs out wins. It's all-out chaos!
Simulation: This one’s unique — you just sit back and watch. No playable faction here, just empires rising and falling. Due to watch a cosmic drama unfold.
Stardust Exile | Official Trailer
Or, if you’re feeling creative, you can craft your own scenario. Pick any victory conditions you want — or none at all. Since the sky’s the limit in Skirmish mode.
For those who might be new to Stardust Exile, it's a space RTS game set in the Milky Way galaxy. It includes real stars and exoplanets with their actual characteristics. So for the rest of the star systems, they’re procedurally generated based on our best estimates of how many stars are out there. You also get to rename stars and planets that you control, as long as they’re outside the Solar System. Imagine ruling over a planet named after you!
This update is perfect for anyone who likes space strategy games and wants more control over their galactic adventures. Whether you're a hardcore RTS fan or just looking for something new to try, Skirmish mode has something for everyone.
So, gear up, customize your galaxy, and dive into the latest update. It’s time to show the universe what you’re made of on Linux, Steam Deck, and Windows PC. Available on Steam Early Access with a 25% discount, priced at $14.99 USD / £12.56 / 14,62€. Regular price on Humble Store.
