Botan was born in Kina to a small family. At a young age, she showed a propensity for magic and in an effort to provide her the best education, her parents sent her to Magnostadt Academy to study. There, she excelled as a student.

She has an affinity for the eighth type, life magic with a secondary skill in the second type water. Her particular skillset revolves around healing magic, often combining the two. But she has also found to a have strong connection the rukh, potentially coming from her family's heritage as spiritualists. She has minor mediumship abilities, able to receive minor information from the rukh itself, said to come from the souls that flow within. She can see the rukh more clearly than most and has always seemed to be able to, even before her magic manifested. She also seems to have a knack for predicting and sensing death, often seeing spirits depart to the rukh, but keeps the former to herself as it seems to unnerve people. Rather than a traditional staff, Botan uses an ornate wooden oar she brought from home. Her family were boatman on the river prior to Kina taking to the skies.

After graduation, Botan decided that while she treasured her time at the academy, she did not agree with their teachings that the goi were somehow below them because of their lack of magic. And so she's taken to sailing the world, offering her skills where she can.

Canon I outright reject

So I'm not sure if there's a canon I outright reject - I do reject his cute baby face though, I am not going to lie.

I also outright reject that he's twunky and is more masculine. Thicker, muscular, but he is short.

Obscure headcanon

He is passively suicidal with very little to no self preservation (this is seen in canon, he actively puts himself in danger). If he were to die, his thoughts would not really be on the idea of survival but more, "Oh. Well, this is okay. Retribution for my own sins."

Also a sillier, cuter one: he makes anonymous donations to the new animal shelter in Mondstadt and has a big soft spot for them. The winery is just crawling with different critters and he has named each and everyone, including the pigs, and that goddamn rooster that chases him every morning. (He also likes to keep an eye on Diona if Kaeya cannot - makes sure she gets to Springevale safely if she's working at the Cat's Tail).

He has nightmares about the night he killed his father and is still hesitant to ever celebrate his own birthday.

I DO NOT KNOW if this is obscure either BUT it was Arlecchino he fought and it was Yelan who saved him and recruited him, tyvm.

Unpopular opinion about them

He's still good game wise. He's still fun, and Diluc is actually an incredibly nice person deep down. If anyone ever pays attention to the dialogue or have read his lines will know that he's a gentle soul, and there's still bits of the old him that comes out, but unfortunately he's learned to hide it and push it away.

Since fandom treats this as canon even though it's more a misunderstanding, I'm gonna say this:

Diluc does not hate Kaeya. Diluc is awkward and uncomfortable and awful with feelings, things are tense between the two of them but in no way does he hate Kaeya. In fact, he still cares about Kaeya (a lot) and vice versa. And will work with him on need to know basis.

ALSO he's not a dick to Venti. He's a lot nicer than what he lets on. His comments about Venti's bill is just him making jabs, Diluc is not the best in the beginning with joking or teasing so it falls short. Yes, he gets annoyed with Venti - quite often - but he respects Venti and does view him more as a friend and a guide than, "that annoying, homeless bard who keeps stealing from me". If he actually had any sort of issues with Venti pilfering from the Winery or leaving a large, open tab, he would actively do something about it. Archon or not.

He's not an asshole, he's emotionally repressed.

I was tagged by @brasideios tyvm! I'm kinda low on spoons right now so I'm not tagging and stuff but I did want to do this.

Some notes/details:

I don't LIKE it when characters die but I'm very willing to explore character death, particularly if it's canon. Same with unhappy endings, it's not that I LIKE it, it's just that it isn't going to stop me from reading.

Time loop is ok, unless it's Trigun time loop and then it gets catapulted to S+ Tier all by itself lol

confession: i think i have read that one erasermic fic you made like 3 years ago about 50 times and i’m 90% sure i could recite at least three scenes from memory alone. you just write them so Good and i am so tempted to get into the fandom you currently are in purely to enjoy more of your writing bc it is so. just. Nice. the dialogue is so fun and the characters feel so Genuine idk how else to explain it but i have been obsessed with it ever since. no other fic will live up to it, from plot to premise, its my favorite thing ever. tyvm for writing it. also this is a tumblr ask so i think i ought to? actually ask a question? ive never used tumblr before haha Okay question: are you still keeping up with mha? thoughts? if not uhhh whaatts your wriiitting process?

I have not been keeping up with MHA, but not for any reason against it. I simply had a shift in hyperfixation and haven't rounded back just yet. I do intend to continue it at some point, maybe after the manga has finished. I have heard some interesting, nail-biting things about Aizawa, my beloved, that went down and I am Deeply Intrigued. I'll hop back in one day!

My writing process for the past few years has been something like this: I have one or more scenes in particular that I really want to write about. Unfortunately, it's difficult for me to write only those scenes on their own and present them as is, so I build a narrative around them in order to bridge the gap and form a full story. I call this the "connective tissue," it's all the stuff between the bits I really want to write.

Now, sometimes this works really well; Heroism and Other Infectious Diseases is actually mostly comprised of this connective tissue, but it still ended up being a pretty coherent and cohesive piece that I'm really proud of. Sometimes this doesn't work very well at all and the story can feel like it's a bit disjointed or leave some scenes feeling out of place or unnatural.

I'm a very hit or miss writer, I'm afraid! And the truth is, sometimes I just get so sick of looking at a piece that I tend to force a stopping point if I get tired of a project. And since I don't like leaving something in a wip folder for too long (since I'm worried it will be doomed to die there and all the work I put into it will go to waste), I'll post it even if I'm not very happy with it or confident in its current state. This has become a terrible habit that I need to stop doing lol!

Kataang for the ask game thing h

When I started shipping them:

As hard as I do now it wasn’t until the end of 2020. When I first watched atla in the summer of 2020, I didn’t even really know what shipping was but still knew I liked kataang (I cried so hard when they kissed, when katara ran to him in the awakening, the desert scene). Then once I got into the fandom, I started finding loads of kataang pages and reading into kataang meta (my hobby) and realising even more what an amazing ship they were. So then came the edits, fanart, fics, watching their scenes over and over again every day and every thing in between until I was (and still am) completely hooked on them.

My thoughts:

A1, perfection, amazing, lovely, fantastic, my heart is kataang shaped, I’d die for them

What makes me happy about them:

Everything but the thing that makes me love them so much is how much they love each other. I can’t believe how much they love each other sometimes and that makes me so happy and so happy for them, because they’re both the sweetest best characters I’ve ever come across and they deserve one another:)

What makes me sad about them:

AANG DYING AT 66 AND KATARA IS STILL HEARTBROKEN AND ALWAYS WILL BE AND I CAN’T COPE

Things done in fanfic that annoy me:

Just when they’re reallyyyy ooc. If their characters need to be changed up in the slightest for an au or for a certain scene, I can deal with that, but otherwise not really. I don’t like heartbreak fics either, I haven’t really come across many but if either of them get too hurt in it then I don’t like it. Or if they’re not making an effort to make up/understand one another.

Things I look for in fanfic:

It depends but usually anything like angst and fluff. They need to be in character in it too, and I love when they’re doing their own thing and travelling a lot- having deep conversations and being affectionate and playful with one another. I also love when authors make them fight (not a lot, and not where it’s toxic) if they disagree on something because it’s normal and realistic and plus it wouldn’t be for long, and then making up is the best part. I love au’s too, my favorite is probably where they don’t get together like they do in the end of the show (I wouldn’t change that for the world but for angst purposes you know) and years pass and when they see each other again it’s the tension, the pining, the jealousy, the barriers, the almost kisses, the doubts and hopes- HAND THAT OVER

My wishlist:

For more kataang content from faith Erin hicks tyvm, I’d love some young adult kataang and also to see them being first time parents

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other:

Honestly nobody, I ship kataang so hard it’s not that I don’t want to imagine them with someone else, it’s that I can’t. But if I had to choose; mai & aang when they’re older and yue & katara.

My happily ever after for them:

that katara realises jinora can guide her into the spirit world, and she asks jinora to help. After some time, jinora is able to lead her into the spirit world where she is able to reunite with aang (just imagine that reunion…sobbing) and be with him for some time before she has to leave again. She doesn’t want to leave and doesn’t realise she can’t stay in the spirit world, but he reminds her of all the people who love her and are waiting for her in the physical world. Before she goes he tells her he is always with her, because he really is (like in the winter solstice: part 1)

My thoughts: i miss the golden days of steli nation. before they shoved steve and aja into a relationship. back when we all agreed steve was gay and eli had two moms. also literally they dID THE BABY ASSIGNMENT TOGETHER!!!! that's such a romance cliche and both of the other main pairs (jim/claire and toby/darcy) who did the assignment together went canon!! also also can we just talk about the fact that steve was sleeping and woke up just to catch a wad of paper before it hit eli? yeah. i won't forget

and it’s for my wife @bellemorte180 and jfc this is the most fun I’ve ever had plot bunnying, Erica and I have decided to keep mum on the details but basically it all started with me desperately wanting Caroline to commit mass and I mean massively MASS genocide against humanity and enlist the originals help for the same and I just didnt know how to do that though.....like what could possibly be the reason and so I started working backwards from genocide went to a lot of disturbing places along the way but finally ended w Caroline as an xyz Earth Goddess (not yet sure on the mythology) who’s been slumbering for the past 3-4 millenniums and has now woken up to the utter shitshow that is humanity and our world-wide war against Mother Nature, and Caroline is pissed at how humans have essentially destroyed large chunks of her planet irrevocably and are continuing to do the same to the rest, so she starts a series of plagues that basically makes human’s drop dead like flies all over the world, I’m not gonna say more bc that will give away too much but Klaus falls for Caroline w/o knowing she’s the earth goddess who’s doing all of this and the feral shit that he is, after learning that Caroline is actually the earth goddess he’s a tiny bit cautious of an unbeatable being, a little bit amused that she’s committing mass genocide in the most organized colour coded binder with laminated flash cards way possible, a LOT horny at the absolute livid divinity of her and just largely still nicely whipped and smitten for her bc seriously tho why wouldnt he be I mean he doesnt bloody care for humanity as long as all the art and music and culture is preserved which obviously Caroline does, she’s not an uncultured plebe tyvm and is very happy going on murder sprees with his favourite goddess as humans die right left and centre.

Klaroline is the ship I read the most about, it’s basically everything I read fanfiction wise. But sometimes I read GOT fics (mostly fix it ones) and Marvel fics about Steve and Natasha because they are married ok?

Ugh! This is a good one! I’m not someone that often cries with fics, I love angst and I really enjoy when authors break my heart, however, I don’t cry cry. BUT, chapter 29 from The Wolf 2 by @galvanizedfriend made my eyes watery! It was beautiful and I really loved reading Klaroline in that way after everything that happened before. I melted!

Since I didn’t answered the last question, instead of posting a line I’m gonna share one paragraph lolsies 

Caroline fell silent, convincing herself that it didn't mean anything, except that once it did, and admitting it felt more bittersweet than she had thought. Because that just means that unlike them, unlike the war they were facing, love does not distinguish between the righteous and the sinners, love just was, and perhaps just for that fact it was worth risking everything.

My HP au maybe? I think it has 800 words and that’s huge for me tyvm. It’s basically about KC just before the Hogwarts battle.

I have an idea for an edit, I’m want to do something that involves social media but I’m still thinking about it.

Not really, but when I make edits I often I listen to ASMR because I get stressed very easily.

I had to asked for help with this one because I didn’t know what a character headcanon was. But thanks to Yokipedia (Thanks Yokan!) I can proudly say my character headcanon is Klefan! They had something in the 20′s and no one can’t tell me otherwise.

I do! So, I have plenty of favie authors because I’m not someone that can choose easily lol. I really love @thetourguidebarbie and @maevelin. I think they were the ones that made me go: Wow, KC is something huge and I’m obsessed! I can read their works over and over again and I will never get tired because they are truly something awesome! 

Also, @galvanizedfriend. I will NEVER get tired of saying how much I love this author (and I’m not just being nice so please shut up). Yokan’s writing is everything to me and she is the author that I’m constlantly looking for more content from her, I can’t never get enough. 

Lulu (coveredinthecolours) as well! I think Luiza has SUCH a powerful and unique writing style and I die everything she gives us more from her! And finally a recent favie has been @helpless-in-sleep ! I really love her and I think she has very interesting concepts! I really connect with her stories!

11. Is there an unpopular character you like that the fandom doesn’t? Why?

Oh. Oh man. Yes. Many! I don't think there are any characters in any of my fandoms who are universally hated, but there are certainly some damn unpopular ones. For BSD, probably Mori and Fukuzawa, who I both adore to pieces even though Mori's a terrible person (tm) and Fukuzawa doesn't get nearly enough screentime. I spose Tanizaki counts, too, because I know a lot of people think he's a yikes for the Naomi gag.

But I definitely thought of Mahito from JJK first. I don't know what exactly it is that makes me like him so much. The murder? The glee? The utter delight in being horrible? Nobunaga Shimazaki's egregiously nice voice? Who knows.

Xue Yang from MDZS, definitely. He goes unappreciated because he may or may not have killed a bunch of people in increasingly brutal ways. I just like evil murder boys, alright? They're too much fun.

And for Genshin, probably Xinyan. It's not that the fandom dislikes her, it's just that she's not that popular. And she's fuckin adorable and I would die for her so >:(

19. What is the one thing you hate most about your fandom?

Bet you ten bucks that people are sick of me ranting about it, but all of the morality-adjacent hottakes. Liking to read about something doesn't mean you're inherently a terrible person, tyvm!! Genshin's the worst offender, but MDZS isn't great at it either. BSD and JJK don't reaaaaally have this issue though.

so like. i might as well be transparent and say that i'm rapidly losing interest in waterparks. and it makes me super sad bc this fandom is where i've met some of the coolest online friends i have, but like... it's just not doing it for me anymore. i wasn't super impressed by gh and i don't love how things are being handled rn in general, both by awsten and the label. i'm starting to consider taking a serious step back and doing things like turning off post notifications for awsten, unsubscribing to jawn on twitch, etc. (I'm still debating that one. i'm quite attached to my founder badge, tyvm) there is the pretty sizeable issue of my being the admin of a good-size discord server, but i have no problem continuing to moderate that even if i'm not interested in most of the conversation. on top of that, that the rancid fan community is one of the main reasons i stopped using twitter altogether.

it also doesn't help that i feel like i've finally established myself as a parx fanfic writer, and then haven't published/updated any fics in months. i don't think i can keep calling it writers' block considering i've written 15k+ words for various dream smp works in the time since i updated picturesque score. i open my parx wips and just end up closing them without typing a single word. losing that passion really, really sucks, especially seeing how many people have reached out to me and told me how much they love that particular series. but there's not much i can do about it.

who knows, i might get a second wind, especially once season 4 of slumber party ramps up, but right now i'm just not into it. i'm starting to feel guilty about posting/reblogging non-parx content, and i really shouldn't feel that way about my own fucking blog. meanwhile, i'm getting more and more "og bandom" content on my dash with hella mega going on and i'm enjoying it so much more. not to be cheesy but fob is like. my ride or die. i think i'll always end up coming back to them :) they're just what's making me happier at the moment.

Random stuff kpop fans do that I would like to address.

1. Comparing two kpop groups.

Honestly if you do this your just trying to pick a fight and it shows how immature you really are. Kpop isn’t finite genre and every group is different so trying to tear one group down because you think another group is better is honestly some toxic shit, if your a serious kpop stan BE BETTER TYVM. If your comparing an aspect of a comeback or the way a group is set up then this doesn’t apply to you.

2. Slut-shaming, fat-shaming or trying to call out and cancel idols/their friends for no god damn reason.

I see this happen all the time and it needs to stop. I’ll admit to mistakes I’ve made in the past with fandoms where convos with my friends would get out of pocket. We’d be talking about a dating scandal and one of them would say “what a hoe didn’t she date ... too”. Slut shaming is something I feel bad that I have been a part of in the past but I’m older now and I will honestly not stand for it. You don’t know that person, you don’t know anything about the situation so please stop.

Like I know people have posted threads about how sometimes idols get nervous around their friends especially their female friends because people get out of hand. It’s not cute, it’s not funny, it’s just horrible and your being a shitty person by bullying someone for being associated with someone else.

But in saying that some fandoms get really toxic when it comes to dating scandals especially with boy groups. Y’all get so mad and out of pocket when your bias gets a girlfriend when you don’t need to. They’re human and they’re going to date someone or not and that’s something that I hate to say is absolutely none of your business. And another thing while I’m here STOP FKN BEING SO RUDE TO FANS THAT ARE EXCITED ABOUT THEIR IDOLS DATING. Like damn grow up your not a child let us be happy they aren’t going to die alone.

You weren’t sure how Jaskier couldn’t tell that you were Valdo’s sister. It hadn’t occurred to you to mention anything after a lifetime of people remarking on how much the two of you looked alike. Jaskier had never asked your last name so you’d never offered it but you weren’t hiding it by any means. Well, you weren’t back then at least.

When you’d met Jaskier at a party your brother was also performing at it was far away from Valdo. He had been charming and sweet and handsome and when he asked to see you again, you eagerly accepted. You even told your brother that you’d met someone at the party and he’d only half-listened, not even asking who it was or he would have learned the truth then.

“But he didn’t, Roach, so I really wasn’t deceiving anyone,” you insisted aloud to your sole confidante. You’d met Roach accidentally, Jaskier hadn’t intended for you to see the horse, knowing how you loved animals and would want to pet her nose but it had happened anyway. Luckily for Jaskier, Geralt didn’t mind you giving Roach attention as it seemed she enjoyed being around another lady as well. It had become habit for you to slip out while Jaskier was composing to spend some time with Roach. And since you’d discovered Jaskier and your brother were sworn rivals, you’d done a lot of it.

“Of course I should have said something when Valdo began ranting about Jaskier,” you admitted, stroking Roach’s long mane, “But frankly I’m happy and I don’t see why their petty rivalry should get in the way of that. You understand, don’t you?”

Roach’s big brown eyes considered you carefully and you sighed.

“I know, you’re right,” you said, “It has to come out sometime. Better from me than not I suppose.”

You steeled yourself for what you knew you had to do and walked back into the tavern were you’d left Jaskier fretting over rhymes.

“…it back you cretin!” you heard a familiar voice shout.

“I will never take it back, it is the truth, is it not, Geralt?”

“Hmm.”

Your stomach flipped as you identified the voices before they were in front of you. Geralt stood between Valdo and Jaskier, his large frame and quick reflexes managing to keep them separated so they didn’t claw each other’s eyes out. Geralt saw you first and he could tell something was wrong. Before you had time to so much as breathe, it was all over.

“Y/N!”

“Y/N!”

They looked at each other, stunned and confused.

“How the hell do you know my sister?” Valdo spat, dark curls quivering with rage. Jaskier’s eyes grew as wide as saucers.

“I think I’d rather know how the hell you know my girlfriend!” he retorted. Geralt gave you a look that rivalled Roach’s and you straightened your back and walked closer.

“Alright that’s enough!” you said, making your voice stern. The men were too confused and shocked to try and kill each other for the moment so Geralt stood back, joining the two men in facing you.

“Did you forget to mention something?” Valdo asked, having the audacity to sound aloof.

“Oh shut up, Do-boy,” you sneered, using his childhood nickname and earning a seething glare from him and a raucous laugh from Jaskier.

“And you,” you said, turning on him and quelling the laughter mid-guffaw, “If you think I’m going to let you do any of the things you threatened to my brother you’ve got another thing coming. It’ll take more than a Witcher to protect you if you touch a hair on his dumb face.”

Jaskier gaped, sputtering indignantly while Valdo leveled you with a piteous look.

“How could you do it, Y/N? How could you betray me with this, my one true rival?” Valdo asked. You rolled your eyes.

“First of all, I didn’t know that you two knew each other, let alone hated each other. Also, I told you that I had met someone that night and you just ignored me, you would have found out then! Jaskier, look at the two of us, I thought the resemblance was obvious! Geralt, stop looking so amused.:

The witcher’s eyebrows shot up in surprise at being caught up in the crossfire and he stepped back a bit farther, though close enough he could intervene if the pair tried to go at it again.

“Here’s how I see it,” you continued, calmly and slowly as though you were teaching a primer, “I love Jaskier and I intend to keep seeing him. And I love Valdo and I’m going to be his sister til the day I die. The two of you can either accept that, keep me out of your petty squabbles and otherwise have your stupid rivalry. Or you can say goodbye. Which is it going to be?”

Your heart pounded, anxious about putting it all on the line but also proud that you weren’t backing down from it. Your feelings mattered and deserved to be considered. And if they weren’t willing to do that you were better off with them gone. Jaskier and Valdo exchanged seething glances and then turned back to you.

“Well I’m willing to be the bigger man,” Valdo said dramatically.

“Well I love you enough to put you above all other things,” Jaskier said, louder.

“And you won’t talk poorly about each other in front of me,” you insisted. They nodded glumly.

“I would never do anything to hurt you, Y/N, you’re my sister and there is a love there that cannot be matched by any other,” Valdo said.

“And I am so deeply in love with you that if anyone even tried to steal your happiness I would simply kill them in their sleep, bashing their heads in with their own lute,” Jaskier said through gritted teeth. You sighed. Well, it had last two minutes. That was longer than you were expecting.

“I’m going back to Roach,” you said with a sigh. Though you could hear them starting to fight again the second your back was turned you took a deep sigh of relief. Everything was out in the open now. So long as nobody killed the other, everything would be fine. And they probably wouldn’t. Well, not while Geralt was there.

And as you walked up to Roach who stood waiting for you patiently you thought, the first of many times you would, Thank the gods for Geralt.
