lana del rey songs ranked by how lacho del rey they are: born to die (paradise edition) PART ONE

strap in this shit is crazy

born to die: 10/10

this is post 5x10 nacho reflecting on lalo in the hotel room. it's not even worth picking out lyrics because they all apply. honestly i should make a music video to this.

off to the races: 10/10

honestly giving both ottr and btd the same rating is a little weird to me because ottr is, personally, to me, more lacho. but only because it is the lacho that lives in my head where nacho fully succumbs to the lana-ification and becomes the man he was always meant to be, i.e., lalo's sugar baby. i also personally like interpreting it from nacho's pov because "my old man is a bad man" is insane, he has a broke-down life but an la crass way about him, he's putting his red dress(shirt) on, etc., but i know some people like to think of it as lalo pov, and that's valid, too! anyway i legitimately have a full music video of this in progress.

blue jeans: 4/10 (nacho pov) vs 9/10 (lalo pov)

this one gets a discrepancy because it makes less or more sense depending on who you imagine. blue jeans white shirt walked into the room made my heart hurt is obviously lalo in the famous fit:

like this could be an album cover. but the other stuff doesn't fit from nacho's pov as well.

BUT from lalo's pov we have it!!! we do have nacho in a blue jeans white shirt but lalo never saw that and it's not very nacho-esque anyway ): also it's not like lalo to cry over nacho. but the sentiments of loving you more than those bitches before (amber and jo -- sorry women, you're not bitches, but we put the feminism away for lana del rey time) and "But when you walked out that door, / A piece of me died / I told you I wanted more, / But that's not what I had in mind / I just want it like before / We were dancing all night / Then they took you away, / Stole you out of my life / You just need to remember..." is very lalo-realizing-nacho-worked-for-gus. as is the rest of the song. if only gilligould would let lalo be textually gay instead of subtextually gay.

video games: 2/10

look, video games is the first ldr song i ever heard and i love it and it's my life whatever, but it's, unfortunately, not very lacho. lana is too happy here. lalo is old and doesn't understand video games. it does get points for "I heard that you like the bad girls / Honey, is that true?" (nacho is a woman) and the lines about holding in big arms and playing pool and wild darts.

diet mountain dew: 5/10

the aesthetics are on point, but it's a pretty general song and really could be applied to any toxic relationship. also neither of them drink diet mountain dew. a few things stand out, though. the usual riding in old cars, smoking cigarettes, mention of jesus, etc, that lana is famous for, of course. this is a white pontiac heaven:

i think it's a bit too old school for the lacho aesthetic, unfortunately. they're more 60s/70s cars than 50s style. though i could imagine lalo keeping a couple of 50s around for nostalgia, but that's headcanon. (imagine little lalo riding in a car like this with his dad and his mom in a headscarf through mexico city or something...)

and no, nacho, i have never seen a girl so pretty as you.

god, they are both so handsome! national anthem blah blah blah lalo is mexican and nacho is chicano and they probably tease each other about that. there’s already an fanvid to this but i can’t find it. a link would be appreciated! so since you guys already have it from lalo pov, i’ll do nacho.

here’s a bugatti veyron, which if nacho was alive in 2012, he definitely would have one:

one that is unequivocally from lalo’s pov. i knocked a point off because we don’t have lalo canon mourning nacho and also he has no friends to tell him that he’s wrong. their relationship is definitely a dark paradise though!

million dollar man: 5/10 (nacho pov) 8/10 (lalo pov)

first of all, this is a great title. i should save this for a fic. lalo is a million dollar man. he’s a seven million dollar man, actually.

i’m getting a bluebell tattooed on me i swear.

anyway, lalo didn’t break nacho’s heart so it’s not as applicable from his pov, even though he IS the most exotic flower and lalo IS screwed up and brilliant and looks like a million dollar man. here’s the fun part, though: so does nacho! therefore, it is actually better from lalo’s pov, as nacho did leave his heart broke ):

summertime sadness: 4/10 (nacho pov) 7/10 (lalo pov)

alas, if only nacho had lived to see the summertime. he could be putting on his red dress and dancing in the pale moonlight. but he killed himself so. it is kinda applicable if you think about it as being right before his suicide, but also he told lalo he was a soulless pig and not “baby, you’re the best” so.

but this is very lalo if lalo had the emotional ability to let himself feel sad over the betrayal. but he doesn’t!

now if this was what comes next ‘verse....10/10 for both of them <3

this is what makes us girls: 0/10

nacho is a girl but he was hustling as a teenager, not whatever this is, so 0/10. also my least favorite song on the album.

1. How did you start shipping Spones?

I started shipping spones when I somehow got it into my head that Spock would have an irrational desire to pick McCoy up and carry him around! I think adestroy’s comics first introduced me to the concept of spones, and it didn’t hurt that the first episode of TOS that I ever saw was All Our Yesterdays lol

Great spones fics (Surgeon’s Mate by belmanoir springs to mind), regular content from sleepymccoy throughout 2015-2017 or so, and excellent fanvids on YouTube by Danzinora Switch all helped to keep me interested in the ship.

2. Why did you ship them?

My “true” ship is McSpirk, but the great thing that the spones relationship has over the spirk relationship is the tension. Spones has what every romcom wants (and usually fails) to have: two people who are clearly well-matched for each other in terms of intellect, ideals, lifestyle and personality, but who have got off on the wrong foot due to relatively minor differences in temperament, mode of expression, prejudices and insecurities.

This tension can be played equally well for comedy and for angst. Furthermore, they are both such honest and loyal people that a serious meaningful relationship is totally plausible, opening up possibilities for fluff or epic romance. So you can have anything you want, with spones!

Also (unlike Kirk, unlike Spock), McCoy simply will not experience fulfilment without marriage. He is lonely and his career and friendships cannot fully sate that loneliness. He needs total commitment to and from one person. And Spock is the best match for him.

3. What are some reasons you like Spock and McCoy as characters?

Well I only fell into the Star Trek fandom because of Leonard Nimoy’s expressive face! Spock has remained my favourite character because I admire his stoicism, his utter integrity, his deadpan wit; and I relate to his reticence, awkwardness and (imo) demisexuality.

It took me a while to really like McCoy. In the show, the writers sometimes didn’t do the character justice, and the spones arguments don’t always make sense. But the fandom has really developed McCoy’s character as it was meant to be and as DeForest Kelley portrayed him. I love his sass, his selflessness, his mistrust of space and technology, the way he covers up his deep emotions with cantankerousness and surface emotions.

Above all, the great thing about McCoy from a shipper’s point of view is his boundless potential for pining! He breaks his own heart at the slightest provocation – which means he has limitless potential for bliss once things work out in the end.

4. Some of your fave things about liking Spones: tropes, fics, headcanons etc?

I like that spones works particularly well as an AU. Now normally I don’t even like AUs. With spirk, for instance, I can’t stand AUs because they can never be better than the actual spirk relationship in TOS, so what’s the point?

With spones, though, it seems as though TOS is almost the worst possible outcome, as though Spock and McCoy would, in any other universe or circumstances, have come together more quickly, easily and completely? So whether it’s a completely different AU (like Regency era or cowboys or something) or just a “what if this episode had gone a little differently” AU, there’s endless scope.

I’m sorry for the late reply! I saw this submission in the inbox but, before I could do anything, my power went out for days so I’m now just taking a chance to look at your answers!

That is a hell of an introduction to Spones! All Our Yesterdays has a lot of Spones content, Adestroy has such great comics, but when sleepymccoy made all that spones content from 2014-2017, it actually was one of the reasons I actually made a tumblr. Danzinora Switch’s videos are WONDERFUL but honestly her fics? Such good gen fic I’m cry. I can see how you got sucked into the Spones very quickly.

I, too, love McSpirk! (My multishipping butt collects ships like no one’s business lmao) You do make a great point about Spones having what most romcom movies want but don’t always succeed at with their main interests.

You are so very right about the writer’s not always doing justice to McCoy’s character (sometimes they write him antithesis to what has been established AS his character in other episodes -- I’ve discussed this before with Trek-Tracks, but Bev and I agreed that some of these writers would write Spock & McCoy as opposites, even on positions that would definitely be very out of character for McCoy, if it meant it was the “opposite” of what Spock was presenting, and it’s just very frustrating) and the amount of thought Deforest Kelley put into McCoy is quite amazing (I have a press release where he talks really in-depth about it, it’s a wonderful read!) and it’s nicer that fans have seen through some of that OOC bs and came up what maybe they were trying to establish with him at the time but didn’t always succeed.

And yes, to the boundless potential for McCoy angst, whump and pining. Goodness.

You have a good point about AUs! They really do work well transposed into all kinds of AUs (I know, I’ve accumulated to many in my fic wips lmao) which is a shame because there aren’t enough AU fics for this pair. In recent years, I’ve started to see more of them, but there is definitely room for more!

It’s been awhile since I’ve read Surgeon’s Mate, but I remembered it to be pretty good, and if anyone wants to read it, you can find it on AO3 here. I do remember it’s a pretty “old” fic, like 2011? 2012? It’s been awhile.

If you like Danzinora Switch’s fanvids, I think y’all would enjoy the gen fics. The fics are SUCH a joy to read, especially like that one where Spock & McCoy time travel to Vulcan’s past. It can be all found and read here, on fanfiction.net.

Spoiler for the Frostiron Fanvid (AU) preview~ (Full story summary)

Note: So I have a habit of writing up summaries for AU fanvids I make before I finish them (especially when I need a bit of structure to make sure I don’t forget to include certain areas that require manipulations (masking)! And since I shared the video previews I made, I figured I’ll leave this here for your reading pleasure ;)

P.S - I’ve decided to use the Alt. 1 video (here) for the final video! Thanks for everyone’s feedback! :D I’ll still keep Alt. 2 available for viewing though! ;)

Loki has a nightmare where he sees Thanos sacrificing Tony in order to get the Soul Stone. He also sees his demise when he tries to stop the mad Titan from killing Tony. He is horrified by this because it could come true.

To confirm if the premonition he saw could come true, Loki pays a visit to the sorcerer, Doctor Strange. Strange goes back to see all the possible futures, and when he does, the stone acts on its own and pulls him into seeing Loki and Tony’s curious past.

Strange finds out that after the battle of New York, Loki actually doesn’t go to Asgard but instead stays in Midgard (after escaping from Thor and fooling everyone). The mind-control spell that was cast on Loki is gone now.

Loki goes back to Tony to get that drink he was owed. Tony finds out Loki was controlled by the scepter and that he hasn’t recovered enough to leave Midgard (PTSD), so Tony agrees to shelter the god for a short while.

From there, they start to see each other often. Even after Loki recovers, he comes back to Tony to see him (three months later). Their relationship is eventually discovered (tabloid magazine reading ‘Who is Stark’s New Lover? - The Playboy Millionaire’s Newest Conquest’ on the front pages) by the public, although they don’t recognize Loki as the crazed Norse god that destroyed New York.

SHIELD (Fury), however, recognizes Loki immediately. Tony tells him to leave, fearing Loki’s capture, and the god does this reluctantly.

SHIELD marks Tony ‘unstable’ after the Loki incident, but they need Tony in the Avengers team so they keep him on the team. Tony is forced to wear a magic prohibitor that prevents him from seeing Loki to ensure that he cooperates.

When the events of Civil War happen (one year later), Tony finally manages to find a way to break the prohibitor. Loki comes back to fight Captain America and the Winter Soldier. Loki is reunited with Tony (heals his wounds) and they spend one night of bliss together (shown in the beginning of the video), at which point Loki has the premonition.

After hearing from Strange that the only way to save Tony was to erase his memories of the god completely, Loki is torn. He wants to prevent Tony from getting killed but doesn’t want to erase Tony’s memory in order to save his life. In the end, Tony finds out and he swears to Loki that he would rather die loving Loki than be forced to forget him, even if it meant the inevitable end.

Unfortunately, when Thanos comes to Midgard, Tony is kidnapped, mistaken as someone who holds the Infinity Stone by Ebony Maw. Loki chases after Thanos, determined to defy fate. Thanos is aware that he is being followed. When he finds out that the only way to get the stone is by ‘losing a loved one’, Thanos uses Loki to get what he wants by throwing Tony to his death. Loki is too late to stop this, thus becoming the bearer of the Infinity Stone (Soul Stone).

Before Thanos could kill Loki, however, Doctor Strange opens a portal and saves Loki, thus creating a new future. Loki is furious that Doctor Strange didn’t try to save Tony, but the sorcerer explains that Tony was the one who asked him not to save him.

He explains that Tony knew that to get past destiny, they would have to cheat it and the only way to do that was to let it play out the way it was supposed to.

- Flashback -

Doctor Strange hadn’t told Loki the whole truth - he had seen one more possible future. He goes to Tony after the genius had his discussion with Loki. Strange explains that if he decides to die, then it would only be temporary, and shares how the Soul Stone works, thus giving Tony an advantage.

Loki later learns that Tony had made a machine that could be powered to bring him back using the Soul Stone. Strange tells Loki that Tony is trapped in the stone’s Soulworld. He tells him he has a short period of time before Thanos comes back for the stone, so Loki uses this opportunity to bring back Tony from the dead.

He finds Tony in the pocket universe, where the man had lived for nearly a year alone in the Soulworld’s barren wasteland (time works differently in this universe). Although Tony didn’t suffer, he missed Loki terribly, having been haunted by his last decision. He does this because he knows that if he didn’t, they would not have any chance against defeating Thanos.

Loki manages to revive Tony and they go after Thanos.

I Need a Hero!

Following on from Ooh! Barracuda!

Despite what Darcy had promised, their third date had ended with them still fully clothed, kissing goodbye on the street outside the restaurant they were supposed to be dining at, all because some asshat let mutated wannabe velociraptors escape from a lab in Nova Scotia.

And though they both claimed to want a do-over, culminating in the stereotypical post-third date activities, that first interrupted date was the start of a holding pattern.

They made reservations at another nice restaurant and Bucky walked Darcy to her room at the tower. They made out against the door – the inside of the door, as the hallway had hears, and high resolution cameras – but then Bucky cut it short claiming he had an early training session at the upstate facility in the morning.

Okay, thought Darcy. Except she learnt later on that he had volunteered for it the morning of their date.

The following weekend JARVIS found them an old school dance hall and the pair got dressed up in their 1940’s finest and went out dancing. Bucky walked her to her door again, and again cut their goodbye kiss short claiming tiredness because of the training upstate, and the travel, and the dancing.

Fine. Except Steve had mentioned two days later that Bucky had been putting extra sessions in at the tower gym – including the night of their dance hall date.

Darcy invited him around for a home cooked meal and suggested they watch something from Bucky’s “must see movies of the last 100 years” list. She instigated a little Netflix and Chill action, only for Bucky to put the brakes on claiming he wanted to see how the movie ended.

Really? It’s not like they couldn’t have paused the damn thing, Darcy would grumble to Jane later.

For their next date she pulled out the big guns: a slinky, sleeveless, little black dress that showed even more skin than the blue-grey number that had prompted Bucky to ask her out. When she opened the door Bucky’s knees almost buckled at the sight of her (or the girls) and Darcy thought she was on to a winner. She was flirty and affectionate on the way down to the lobby, and Bucky seemed to be reciprocating, but of course, their luck being what it was, the second he opened the car door for her his phone rang with an emergency Assemble.

Fair enough. He couldn’t fake an Assemble, but he didn’t have to look so damn relieved about it.

The mission took three days and when Bucky returned Darcy was caught in the middle of Jane’s latest breakthrough, so it ended up being a full week after their last failed date before they could reschedule. This also gave Darcy plenty of time to plan a course of action to address the elephant in the room, which basically boiled down to “talk about it like mature adults in an adult relationship”.

“This suuuucks,” Darcy groaned to her empty apartment as she waited for Bucky to knock on her door. Thankfully she didn’t have to wait too long; a minute later and she would have chickened out.

“Hey doll,” he greeted her with a smile and a kiss on the cheek. “I missed you like crazy this week.”

“Yeah, well, it’s been a crazy week,” she joked lamely, as Bucky made himself comfortable on her couch.

“Did you have anything in particular in mind tonight? I was thinking we could try that Caribbean ramen place Tony was going on about and maybe start one of those Star Wars trilogies everyone seems to love. Sam wants to watch them at the next team movie night, but you know he and Clint will just talk over them and it’ll just ruin my first viewing.”

“Speaking of firsts,” Darcy interjected, grasping at any excuse to get the crappy portion of their evening over with. “Do you not want to have sex with me?” Bucky balked and couldn’t bring himself to look her in the eyes. Darcy cursed herself for having the subtlety of Thor’s hammer, but sat as close to him as she dared and powered on. “Considering how you were looking at me the day you asked me out, I’m going to go out on a limb and say you find me attractive, but you keep pulling away from me when things get hot and heavy, and I know you’ve been making up excuses so you can cut out early. So… what is it? Why are you embarrassed to tell me no? Is it a religious thing – do you not want to have sex before marriage? A medical thing? Do you not want to have sex at all, or just not right now? Whatever it is, I just need you talk to me about it and tell me where you’re head’s at so I can adjust my expectations accordingly, okay? Because right now I feel like an asshole for trying to move us in a direction that you’re clearly not comfortable with.”

It took Bucky a minute to reply, his mouth opening and closing as he tried and failed to find the right words, but eventually he turned those beautiful stormy eyes of his in her direction and took one of her hands in his.

“First off, of course I find you attractive. When it comes to brains and beauty I think you leave Hedy Lamarr in the dust,” he assured her with a smirk. “And don’t go twistin’ yourself up thinkin’ I only want you when you’re wearing one of those maneater ensembles of yours. Done up and dressed down, soft and sexy; I like the whole package, sweetheart.” Darcy couldn’t help but blush. “And I do want to have sex with you…”

“But…”

Bucky sighed and squeezed her hand just a little bit tighter. “But… Nobody but doctors have seen me without my shirt on since I came back to myself, and I can’t stop worrying about what you’ll think.”

“About?”

“All this,” he replied with vague gesture.

“Your arm?”

“You gotta remember that I got the knock off version of the serum; I ain’t like Steve,” he added, anxiously rubbing his shoulder. “I might heal fast but my scars don’t fade like his do. At least, the ones Hydra gave me didn’t. It’s not pretty, and I just don’t want to see you pretending like they don’t upset you.”

“Of course they upset me, Bucky. But only because I wanna tase every Hydra goon in the balls for what they did to you. Seeing your scars isn’t going to make me want you less. Solid muscle and solid metal, cocky and self-conscious; I like the whole package, Sergeant Barnes,” she teased.

“Oh, yeah?” he smiled, but it didn’t quite reach his eyes.

“Ugh, dude. Don’t make me fall on my sword.”

“Huh?”

“JARVIS, can you play my favourite fanvid?” she asked the ceiling with a sigh.

“Of course, Miss Lewis.”

“What are we watching?”

“Just… watch,” Darcy cringed as she shushed him. “And try not to hate me or, like, run screaming from the room in search of a restraining order.”

🎶 Where have all the good men gone, and where are all the gods 🎶

Bucky knew this song. He heard it every now and then when he was passing by Jane’s lab on the way to or from Tony’s, but it would always cut out when he got close. He’d asked Darcy about it once and she claimed it was her ringtone. Now that he thought back on it she had definitely been lying but he’d been too distracted by her bashful smile to notice it. He turned his attention to the television fixed to Darcy’s living room wall and as the song continued dozens of hastily edited together video clips were thrown up on the screen. Video clips of him. There were paparazzo footage of him and some of the team leaving a bar in DC after they’d gone out for drinks on Sam’s birthday, some video of him lifting weights in the gym for that Avengers Tower behind-the-scenes thing that Pepper had organized, though it was slightly pixelated as the editor tried to zoom in on his arms. There was even news footage from his missions with the Avengers, and a few of his missions against them.

“Is that… is that the Winter Soldier in Germany?”

“Um… yes?” Darcy winced.

“People like that – you like that?” he asked incredulously.

“I know it’s awful of me, and you have every right to hate me for making light of something that is obviously so awful, but seriously dude, you were built like a friggin tank! I don’t know what you were eating when you were hiding out in Romania, but damn!”

After a few more minutes of crippling awkwardness Darcy finally asked JARVIS to cut the feed.

“So…

“So… I hear this song playing in your lab all the time. Just how often have you watched this thing?”

“I plead the fifth,” Darcy blushed.

“JARVIS, how many times has Darcy watched this video?”

“Don’t answer that!”

“This is Miss Lewis’s 57th viewing of this particular Youtube video.”

Bucky looked rather pleased with himself. “Fifty-seven…”

“Okay, listen, I may have left it playing on loop one afternoon while I cleaned my apartment. I have not sat here and watched it fifty-seven times.”

“I can remember at least four separate instances where I’ve walked past your lab and interrupted this song.”

“So? That’s just four times.”

“Miss Lewis also asks me to loop her into gym’s security footage whenever you and one of your teammates are sparring.”

“JARVIS? What the hell?” Darcy screeched as Bucky doubled over with laughter.

“I apologise, Miss Lewis. I just thought Sergeant Barnes would appreciate having all the evidence at his disposal.”

“Go away, JARVIS.” Darcy sighed and tried not to combust from blushing as Bucky chuckled at her embarrassment. “Okay, fine. As you can see from Exhibits A through to like friggin J: I find you stupidly attractive. So, you don’t have to worry about me being upset about your scars from an aesthetic point of view, because if it’s not painfully obviously, I want to see you naked. Real bad.”

Then it was Bucky’s turn to blush. “Can I kiss you, doll?”

“Please,” she begged with relieved smile. “Anything to stop me from embarrassing myself further.”

They started tentatively at first, but soon things started moving in a horizontal direction, with hands toying at the hems of shirts and brushing over zippers, and Bucky pulled back. Darcy did her damndest not to let her disappointment show and waited patiently for Bucky to tell her how he was feeling.

“Do you think we could, uh, relocate?” he asked, surprising her as he tilted his head towards her bedroom door. “I don’t know if I’ll want to… I mean, we can try…” he stammered.

“Whatever you’re okay with. Whatever you want,” Darcy promised.

Bucky swooped in for another kiss before lifting Darcy up off the couch in one smooth movement, smiling like an idiot as she giggled in his arms.

“JARVIS, play us out.”

1. What was your first impression of the roleplay community on Tumblr? And what’s your impression of it now?

I honestly don’t remember what my first impression was? It was so long ago and I think I was just in the DC comics fandom. I wanna say it was mostly welcoming but there was a clear hierarchy of what rpers rped with who (aka they had standards and ohgod i was terrible at it so i don’t blame them for not rping with me?) My impression is that you’re gonna get different receptions based on your fandom and every fandom has its hookups, not even considering the whole HC/mainstream acceptance of whats-what in a fandom. Getting into a new fandom is terrifying af.

6. What are your thoughts on the current roleplay trends on here right now?

I REALLY wanna try to do a pinned post thing, but I don’t know how? I like that a lot of blogs are getting super simple and minimalistic? Like before the more complex a blog the better it was- which is sort of a shallow concept but lbr often times a nice blog theme kinda gives you a hint about how serious an rper is. but i’m glad its simplifying now for ease, visibility and just accessibility. i used to get sooo lost on people’s blogs trying to find pages.

7. What is the one trend you miss the most that’s no longer popular or seen as much as it was before?

only for the sake of ease for me? the old 100x100 icons. i know the thing is now is like 60x60 and honestly i do like it better because its not quite so distracting as larger icons and its only made to hint at expression (relying on icons to carry the emotion of a thread is such a bad thing) but dear lordddd making icons is just a pain and its easy to copy & past 100x100s.

11. What made you start wanting to roleplay?

a friend on deviantart got me into it? prior to that i just wrote fanfic and drew and they were like hey rp with me??? and i was just....”what’s that?”. its been mostly cool ever since?

15. What’s your impression on blogs who are selective/private?

first impression: ohthankgod they get me. because guys i only have so much energy and spoons and attention span. i cannot do just open to everyone i’m sorry. mental health safety rail here.

16. What do you expect from others when they want to roleplay?

send me an ask, like a starter or hmu in the ims- its that simple. mostly though i need good mun-to mun communication? i love plot heavy stuff and if its just an occasionally ask here and there then i won’t be as involved as you may like so just come talk to me? i don’t bite and generally i always ship the ship so come at me folks.

18. What’s the one thing you want to try the most on your blog?

i don’t have anything specific? generally darker threads? i used to go pretty dark, but i have drawn a line and also i’m older so i think i’m in a better mental health state and in knowing whats cool and not? so yeah gimme darker twisted stuff like toxic relationships, torture, mental manipulation...ect. if me and my rp partner are good with communication i think i can rp just about anything? other things just having more action threads? i miss the action of writing like with dc comic muses sometimes? not that my muse was ever action tendant, but there were moments i miss it?

19. Give us a headcanon about your muse that you never shared to anyone else or wanting to explore deeper.

nothing is coming to mind at the moment except one line about luka which is sorta an obvious statement but i thought of it the other day and i’m like tHI SIS IT. THIS DESCRIBES HIM. and it is simply that ‘he’s a scared boy trying to be brave’. like this is my luka epiphany and im sure other people noticed it before i did.

21. What is it you prefer: angst, fluff, or smut? Why?

I love it all, but lbr.....its angst. angst gives you more room for feels and growth. pain is an excellent stimulator for darkness and light. you grow or you fall and honestly its fantastic to see which way your muse leans into.

24. Where do you draw your inspiration from?

the original show itself? generally i work off of there and just follow the feels to fanvids, music and other aesthetics to inspire.

generally the soundtrack to my muses’s orignial fandom or fandom adjacent stuff. or music from its timeperiod.

29. Which fandom(s) do you wanna roleplay in/crossover with but you’re too afraid to approach?

ohgod. i don’t have one atm? maybe other historical blogs or blogs based on highfantasy or mythology. those guys always seem so cool and they seem so great.

Well soooo...my bravtana (brooke x xavier x montana) fic:

(if you are anti-xantana, Montana, dark Xavier, or if ot3/threesome fics aren’t your thing...i am warning you here that i will be talking about them! so please scroll past if this isn’t up your alley. i am being respectful by warning you...please do the same)

But anyway for those who want to know more:

I’m not gonna spoil too much because what’s the fun in that haha!

But I can tell you that I’ve been wanting to write an ot3 fic for Brooke, Montana, and Xavier for a long while now...it’s just my inspiration to pursue one that fit into the realm of what I lean towards writing wise was lacking for me. I tend to find pure fluff or PWP really hard to write for (why?! i will never know...since they should be the easiest, right?!)...and tbh, as much as I love these characters, especially these three...they have become super hard to get into the right mindset of for me to write them as in character as I can!

But alas, two great things happened for me, and to them I give all the credit in the world to my renewed muse...one was this post I liked and reblogged a while back and the other was this beautifully edited fanvid that popped up on my YT rec feed...since to Billie Eilish is my second go-to artist for inspiration with the first being Lana Del Rey!

Anway, while the video was a fictional character/relationship study about a rl serial killer and his wife...and the editor themselves posed a really interesting moral question that has not left me...

How do we reconcile the person we thought we knew and loved...with who they really are...and the revolting things they’ve done or caused?

And after that and the tumblr post, I was off to the races so to speak lol! It wouldn’t leave me alone...

How would Xavier if he’d survived Camp Redwood, have dealt with the things he’s had to do..or the stuff that’s been done indirectly or other ways to him...how if he’d been able to hear Brooke’s side of the story as well (and Ryan hadn’t yeeted his character arc)... been able to mold together the two versions of Montana...and still accept that he loved her...and I had a lot of the same questions for Brooke too.

Because while Brotana, friendship or other wise, might have been a lie to Montana...it wasn’t for Brooke. I feel like all the things that Montana blamed Brooke for taking from her, she lowkey did the same to Brooke in some ways!

Montana was the first person Brooke ever felt listened and believed her...she trusted her. Brooke has only ever felt safe to break down in front of Montana in canon events...she’s always tried to power on with the others, but she told Montana how she really felt...and imagine for Brooke, whose already been through and lost so much, have to realize that it was never real...to lose that bit of safety net she had in someone/something real and tangible...which is what she’s wanted from day one!

Must of been devastating for her to come to terms with on top of being framed for something she didn’t do...and well, if you know my writing,you know that emotionally painful subjects are what I tend to be able to do best...so finally a fic idea was born for these three!

And I am running with it! So be on the look out if you want...or don’t haha! I just felt like sharing and giving credit to where those two wonderful things lead me here! it’s really exciting to me to write for another ot3 again (maybe it might be more of a xavier x brooke character study/relationship thing...but Montana is important to it and I reserve the right to make it as romantic as i want lol)

But anyway, that’s all i wanted to say...so good night everyone! Wish me luck lol

so first off, they don’t work for buzzfeed because fuck buzzfeed but q is basically ryan and el is shane

margo is their producer

also q and el live together and in same apartment complex as margo and her fen who are dating

q is always terrified on investigations and el thinks its the cutest thing

el is a skeptic and makes fun of q for his belief in the supernatural

the channel originated from a project they did in college and they had so much fun with it they kept doing it and it quickly gained popularity

they are SO flirty in every video ever and people are so confused because q and el say they aren’t dating but then they go and act like that

margo is the most sick of their flirting

q is in love with el but is afraid to say something because he thinks el is wayyy out of his league

el is in love with q but won’t say anything because he thinks q is straight (despite mago’s insistence that he is not “have you seen the way that boy sits? there is no way he is straight?)

eliot’s favorite thing is when q goes off about a theory he finds it so adorable and could listen to q talk about theories for hours (q talking about a theory is like q talking about fillory)

their fans ship them so much

el LOVES reading fic about them but q blushes profusely whenever he does (totally not why eliot loves it)

q secretly watches all the shippy fanvids of them because he finds them cute and when he sees the way el looks at him he thinks maybe maybe el loves him back

they get together when q falls through a floor on an investigation and hits his head HARD

el rushes down to q and freaks when he sees q is bleeding BAD

el hold q’s head still in his lap while holding a towel (they carry first aid kits with them) to the wound and calls an ambulance

q insists he’s fine but he is obviously not

el is freaking out and just starts rambling to keep q awake

“you gotta stay awake, okay q. you’re gonna be fine. hey remember that time when those kids were investigating the same place as us and scared the shit out of us? that was funny. hey, stay with me, you’re gonna be fine. you have to be okay q because i love you and i can’t lose you”

“wait, wait, you.. you love me?”

“uh, oh shit did i say that out loud? well, yeah, um, i love you.”

q reaches up and puts a hand on els cheek

“i love you too”

and then q pulls him down for a kiss much to intense for an injured man

and el pulls away to say this but before he can get the words out q passes out

el freaks out EVEN MORE but luckily the paramedics arrive

they don’t get in trouble or anything because they had a permit to be and film there

they tell him only family can come so el tells them q is his fiancé so he can ride in the ambulance

they get to the hospital but el can’t go back with him

he sits in the waiting room, still freaking out, and realizes he should call margo

“hey bambi”

“is everything okay? you guys are supposed to be shooting right now.”

“uh, well, no everything isn’t okay. q fell through a floor and hit his head pretty bad and now were at the hospital”

“oh my god, el”

“i know, i know.”

“is he okay”

“i don’t know they haven’t said anything yet”

“okay el, i’m on my way. and el, he’ll be okay.”

before margo gets there, a nurse calls him back

when he gets to q’s room a doctor is there and tell him that q has three broken ribs, a dislocated shoulder, and a concussion, but is otherwise fine

“he’ll wake up soon, the pain meds we gave him are keeping him asleep. and, sir, your fiancé was very lucky, it could have been a lot worse”

“my… right. my fiancé. uh thank you, doctor”

the doctor leaves and its just q and el

el pulls the chair in the room up next to q’s bed and holds his hand

“you gotta be okay q, i can’t do this without you need to wake up”

el doesn’t know what else to say so he just sits there, holding q’s hand, rubbing his thumb over q’s knuckles

margo arrives and el doesn't realize until she lets out a gasp.

“oh my god, he’s so banged up”

“i know, the doctor said it could have been so much worse”

“so he’s okay?”

“mostly, but he has three broken ribs, a dislocated shoulder, and a pretty bad concussion”

“holy shit”

it’s quiet for a bit before margo notices el is crying

she puts an arm around him and pull him awkwardly into her side over the chair armrest

“he’s fine el. he’ll wake up soon.”

margo stays as long as she can but she has to go home because her and fen have something they need to do

q wakes up and the first thing he notices is el holding his hand

“el?” he croaks out

“q? q! oh my god, you’re okay” el says and pages a nurse

“of course i’m okay” q says with a soft smile and squeezes el’s hand

a nurse comes in and seeing that q is awake she says “ah glad to see your awake, your fiancé here was worried sick”

el turns BRIGHT RED

“my wha-” q starts to say but el cuts him off

“i’m glad he’s awake too, i don’t know what i’d do without him” el rushes out

they sit in silence until the nurse leaves

“so i, uh, kinda told the paramedics i was your fiancé so i could ride in the ambulance with you” el stutters out not even looking at q

“we went from making out on the floor of a dirty abandoned hospital to being engaged. don’t you think we’re moving a little fast.” q says with a small laugh

eliot laughs with him and squeezes his hand

“so did you mean what you said? that you love me?” q says and this time he’s the one not looking at the other

“of course i did, q. how could i not love you.”

“i don’t know, there’s not much to love about me”

el is so taken aback because how can q, who is so amazing and kind and beautiful, think that??

“hey, there is so much to love about you. you’re smart and so nice and you’re one of the most passionate people i’ve ever met and you care so much about your friends it’s astounding. you’re honestly one of the greatest people i’ve ever met”

they’re both crying by the end of that

“i really wanna kiss you again but i can’t move so you have to come down to me because if i don’t kiss you now i might actually die” q says and el is happy to give into his request

q is released the next day and as much as the wanna do… stuff, they can’t because q’s injuries so they just make out a lot

when margo finds out they’re together she is SO HAPPY

their flirting only gets more intense in videos and so does their pda and they are sick of hiding their relationship so they decide to tell their fans

they tell them by making a conspiracy video about their relationship

“in this video, we will discuss the theory that eliot and i are dating.”

“not much to discuss since we are literally in a relationship.”

“bet you didn’t see that coming!”

“q, everybody saw it coming. the only person that didn’t know i was in love you was you.”

“shut up” “make me”

q pulls el into a kiss and that’s how the video ends

the internet goes INSANE

q and eliot immediately become a disgustingly adorable instagram couple

margo comments “gross” on every single picture of them being slightly affectionate (she also says it when they’re affectionate in real life)

one night when they’re laying in bed el, starts cracking up and q is like “what’s so funny??”

“i just realized, you literally fell for me” el says and just laughs harder

“oh my god” q says and starts laughing just as hard

eventually when they calm down q says “but just so you know, i fell for you way before then”

“hmm, really” el says and starts kissing q’s neck

“yup. i probably fell for you when we finished that first video back in undergrad”

q can feel el gasp against his neck

“well, that’s good”

“why is it good”

el pulls away from q’s neck and looks him in the eye “because that’s about the time i fell for you”

before q can say anything, el gives him a kiss that makes him forget his own name

Conageddon - Richard & Luisa Panel

This is all out of order but finally sharing some notes and memories from the GLORIOUS Memori panel. I got my people. <3

UPDATE: The panel is now online!

Firstly, they used this Memori fanvid as the intro, giving us all the feels - glad I was able to track down the song and video!

- My general thing that I said to @doortotomorrow is that honestly the whole vibe of their panel was so sincere and supportive and sweet. A lot of people commented what a switch it was from earlier in the day when Richard was being really silly with Bob and Zach, all messing around and could barely give a straight answer to a question on their panel -- which was enjoyable for other reasons! (a.k.a. Richard had just been handed a bubble maker and just spent 2/3 of the panel releasing a steady stream of bubbles and distracting Bob with it until he ran out.) But here they were talking really thoughtfully about their characters while still having funny moments. GET YOU A MAN WHO CAN DO BOTH etc.

- Re: The beer pong games from the party the night before, he was so proud of her for winning with him and she credited him for teaching her. Richard calls her his “masterpiece” lol.

- In season three when Murphy was "courting" Emori, Richard would be cute between takes and give her things like a little leaf as a gift. And then she threw it away when she thought he wasn't looking, and Richard was acting all offended. (Confirmed Soft Boy Murphy.)

- They share Memori songs with each other and listen in one earbud each while preparing for scenes. Before the rocket scene in "God Complex" they were listening to "I Will Follow You Into the Dark" by Death Cab For Cutie, she ran to him like you *have* to listen to this. Another one Luisa introduced him to was ”Scared” by The Tragically Hip ... Richard started singing it softly. I apparently willed this panel into existence with my mind. (sobs) EDIT: Thank you to @dailymemori for pointing out, Richard’s Memori song recently was “Here I Am” by The Boxer Rebellion.

- At one point Richard started talking about how he has such a close relationship with her but never felt like there was a danger of fiction blurring with reality... like Luisa is so beautiful and smart and kind and yet they never think about each other that way (romantically) and would be like "god no" if someone suggested it, she's just Lu to him. <3

- They talked about how Murphy and Emori saw something in each other immediately, that they were kindred spirits, Richard: "I get your crazy and I like it." Their first episode together, Richard said it was a test, they didn't know if a love interest could ever work for him. He emailed Jason to say how great she was and that they had to bring her back. Luisa remembers the moment where she has the knife to his neck and he looks up at her, she saw the look in his eyes like "damn."

- They were asked a question about how they come down from doing intense emotional scenes, Richard said it’s easier for him when he knows he did a good job, he’s amped up and feels good about it. Luisa said that Richard is hard on himself and his own worst critic when he thinks he's not doing well in a scene. "He can give 100% and be upset he didn't hit 101%." He was jokingly like "Well yeah, that's just one more percent, I could've done it!"

- On that note, one scene they struggled with at first was the rocket/shock collar scene in 5x06 "Exit Wounds", because they knew how important it was to the season, it's basically the time when they actually do communicate about their breakup and the reasons for it. Their timing felt off, and the people on set knew to leave them alone and let them figure it out together.

- It was just... super validating to hear them talk from their perspective about Memori's S5 arc centering on that scene. Richard placed a lot of it on Murphy’s demons and headspace and with her thriving in space it felt to him like she was pulling away so he had to faster and harder.

- I’m cheating and editing this in because I’d forgotten about it, but there was a question about Emori and Raven’s relationship and Luisa tied that into talking about Emori’s disability and how she doesn’t really sit in her feelings about it; it’s actually their abilities that drew them together, them both being really capable and Emori being so amazed with what she could do with tech.

- I believe this also came up at the meet & greet but Richard is so sick of Murphy being called a cockroach, heh. It's not the animal HE associates with him... to him from the very beginning, Murphy has been a feral dog who was kicked and abused too many times, and is one who will snap back at everyone because of it rather than cowering.

- In the same/opposite way, Luisa saw Emori as a cat. (She talked with me about this a little bit at the autograph table too!) She has a workbook of things that inspire her and help her get into character, and in it she had a picture of a black jaguar or panther. It's alone and skittish and colored dark like her soul -- and now next to it, she has another picture of a lioness with her pride and that's Emori now. <3

- There was one particularly hilarious callback to the boys’ panel earlier. The guys were asked an odd question about which 3 animals they'd put together to make the most dangerous animal. Bob, Richard, and Zach were getting *extremely invested* in the question and arguing with each other & defending their animal choices. Richard had centered his answer on a hippo and kept going on a rant about how scary hippos are, even bringing it up after they moved on to the next question....

- So fast forward to the Richard/Luisa panel. I forget how it was brought up exacty, maybe moderator Jo was like "at least we're not talking about hippos anymore" or something to that effect. And Luisa immediately reacted like "oh no, hippos are the worst. They're so scary." and talking about a violent hippo video she saw. And Richard just STOOD UP, so shocked and vindicated, like, YES. THANK YOU. This is why he loves her! Lmao.

- Luisa mentioned the backstories that they come up with for their characters but nothing is canon until it's canon. Richard echoed this and said before the reveal of what Murphy's crime was, he always used to say he peed on the last tree. He figured Murphy was just a pee-er because of the scene in S1 where he peed on that kid. Luisa being snarky: "When I met him I thought, that's the man for me. A pee-er."

- One audience member brought up the point that Murphy & Emori mirror each other, like he did better as a Grounder and Emori did better in space, the places they were always banished in. They were like "whoa!" and marvelling at that idea, Luisa said she thinks they may have talked about that parallel before but forgot about it. After that insightful comment came a surprisingly simple "what superhero duo would you be" question. Richard to Luisa: "I'd be Robin to your Batman any day."

- Question: Octavia used Lincoln's tattoo as her war paint, would Murphy ever wear war paint based on Emori's tattoo? Richard whispered with her as if worried he might give away a spoiler, then cryptically said "wait and see". O_o

- Luisa said she would’ve liked to see Emori and Pike interact with her distrust of authority. Richard would’ve liked Murphy to meet Lexa since the only time they did was her death scene. Jo said Emori and Lexa would’ve been interesting too; Luisa thinks if she had reached out to bringing the mutated Grounders back Emori would be wary and not want to trust her.

- Another audience question that I *have* to give a shout-out to for its creativity, someone pointed out that if Emori had been given the nightblood & survived, it could have led to Commander Emori & Flamekeeper Murphy. Again they had no real answer because it was just like "huh I have no idea what they would do with that power, that sounds like a bad idea for Murphy." :p But I am very into this AU idea.

- What would Murphy and Emori do if they switched bodies in a Freaky Friday situation. Richard: "I'd go find me. Emori's got a cute boyfriend." XD Luisa said very innocently she'd challenge someone to a race, she wants to see what this body can do.

It’s so fun to read everyone’s answers to these questions! Thanks for putting this together.

How did you start shipping Spones (brotp or otp, either is fine!)

I started shipping spones a few episodes into season 1 when I was watching spirk fanvids on youtube and came across this video (Kirk/Spock/McCoy | Unfaithful): https://youtu.be/2nAmEwIooZ8

I watched half of it and got too sad at the concept of McCoy being sad, realized I was in danger of liking spock/mccoy more than spock/kirk and then went looking for more spock/mccoy fanvids, specifically TOS content since I hadn’t watched AOS yet. I mostly ship AOS spones because I came into AOS having already gotten into TOS spones.

Why did you ship them?

I don’t know exactly, I think their relationship is really interesting. I think they care a bout each other a lot but don’t always know how to deal with that and they don’t always approach problems from the same perspective. I like how they work together and I love the moments where the strength of their relationship is made clear. The katra sharing is also extremely compelling.

What are the some of the reasons you like Spock as a character?

I think Spock’s in a really interesting position as a person and in his career. I like watching him be good at things, and I like how he struggles to balance showing his caring about people with being generally reserved. He’s also funny.

And McCoy?

McCoy is my favorite character in the series, as much as I love the other characters too. Like Spock, I like watching him be good at things, he’s also funny, he’s often in positions where he’s dealing with a slightly different dilemma than Kirk and Spock and I think that makes his parts of the episodes really interesting.

Some of your fave things about liking Spones: tropes, fics, headcanons, etc?

There’s a ton of amazing spones fic and I’m thrilled that there’s an active community still talking about them! It’s wonderful to have people to share ideas with. I started making online friends through spones fandom so that’s very special to me. I think they have so much potential as a pairing to fit with such a range of interpretations of canon and tropes and AUs and things like that. Platonic or not I just love the idea of the two of them (three including Jim but mcspirk is a separate topic :P) finding each other and being such important pieces of each other’s lives for so many years.

Thank you! I had fun trying to figure out the right questions to put for this weekend because I wanted it to be easy to answer, things that would connect people, but also not alienate others because well. Not everyone has good associations with Valentine’s Day and I didn’t want to bring any notions to go with it.

I love how many of us, including myself, just accidentally stumbled upon this ship. It’s like ‘oh, now this is a thing for us??’ and it’s quite amusing. Though through a fanvid is VERY new but also the amazing power of those fanvid creators making you feel FEELS with their amazing editing and song choices! Props to them! Video editing is HARD.

Your reasons for shipping them are similar to my own along with why you like Spock and McCoy. They’re just so fascinating, to quote Spock lol.

There truly is such amazing Spones fic out there and the community has been wonderful and it’s still nice to see it being active! I’m glad you’ve made friends in this community -- I have, and some of them are now some of the closest, dearest friends I have. And you are TOTALLY right about the potential of all those ideas in fic -- this fandom has I think only started to scratch the surface for what can be explored in fic and art that other pairings have already had a chance to do.

And VERY MUCH YES on the idea of them finding each other and being such an important part of each other’s lives for so many years! Even if it’s just in a platonic sense, the idea of having a person with such a lasting, long, close friendship is amazing -- even when all others have gone.

(Ahhh, mcspirk, also a great ship, but that is another topic all together lol glad to see more multishippers show up.)

Okay, so like show of hands- who here has read We Were Liars? This is a mostly hypothetical question because I’m not sure anyone actually pays attention to these anymore but I like them, so fuck it. Point is, I was listening to the watercast playlist a lot while reading that book and this song was playing when we made certain discoveries that most of us had already guessed, and it made me cry. vii. knocking on heaven’s door || raign It's gettin' dark, too dark to see I feel I'm knockin' on heaven's door

This fanvid happened around the time I was writing that Will and El as siblings fic and I basically played it and the video that inspired the next song on the list on repeat until I finished. This cover is lovely and haunting and just, such a freaking earworm.

I actually used this song in a fanvid of my own a couple years ago, when I got to make a fanvid for @iki-teru‘s fantastic Yuffie-centric fic All Through the Circling Years which... I got to see K.Flay in concert sometime late last year, and even though I didn’t know her very well (I told my friend that I’d see K.Flay with him if he saw Glass Animals with me) her music was sweet enough that I could appreciate the concert even knowing none of the songs. Let me tell you though, I fucking wish she’d played this song then because holy fuck. xvi. play with fire || sam tinnesz Insane, inside the danger gets me high Can't help myself got secrets I can't tell I love the smell of gasoline I light the match to taste the heat Kuroshitsuji is something I haven’t really thought about in like half a decade. And then I ended up seeing this vid while I was waiting for my connecting plane to arrive so I could go see my family. So, while I was down visiting my family sometime during the spring, I had a brief dizzying spiral where I fell head over face into the Pacific Rim fandom, because Uprising quite emphatically fucked me up. Anyway, because of this I spent the night after I saw it scrolling through fanart and reading half a decade old fanfiction while my brother was trying to make me pay attention to him. And yeah, that’s how I found this art and listened to this song for like the rest of the fucking year. xviii. warrior || steve james I got my head high, my chest out, my eyes open wide I got no fear, got no doubt and, god, I feel alive I'm not stopping for ya, I'm a fucking warrior

Another thing that happened to me that week was the discovery of lipgallagher’s fantastic harringrove fic (shoot the lights out, hide) till its bright out. Which is all kinds of great and lead me to this song and the realization that Donald Glover does music? xx. hello || via audio How could it be Someone could find me Too scary to say hello to This was one of the songs on Damien’s fanmix from The Bright Sessions. And because The Bright Sessions suckerpunched me with feelings, I spent like a month straight listening to that mix and getting into that garbage man’s headspace. It was wonderful. xxi. daddy || emeli sande He's out your system yeah it took you a while You got your family back and you got your smile And you promised your sister that you'd never go back again I spent the better half of this year shipping Harringrove and Mark/Damien, which are both ships that are... well, not exactly the healthiest of relationships. Mark/Damien fucking ruined me. Listening to the last bit of The Bright Sessions was basically physically painful because like, okay. Logically I know that Damien is a garbage person. But also, he’s got a shitty power that would lead to some pretty interesting moral dilemmas even if you were a normal nice person (cough cough Mark), and like. They’re both so fucked up and Damien is so in love with Mark even if he’s not entirely sure how to be a fucking person and I have never had a pairing come after me as hard as this one did. Like it really came after me. Anyway, this was my true Damien/Mark anthem, because it’s fucking perfect and awful and fantastic and I just want them back in my life, guys.

This here is my most played track of 2018. I first heard it during the special two hour episode of Wolf 359 and the whole end of that episode just blew my mind. So I immediately went to spotify, found it, and have basically listened to it all year since then. It helps that Nick loves it too, so every once in a while he’ll be playing it, which reminds me why I love it and just. It’s so soulful and beautiful.

This was my year for podcasts - in one year I fell in love with Wolf 359, The Bright Sessions, and EOS 10 all over again when it came back for its third season. Near the end of the series though, The Bright Sessions did a musical episode! I listened to it in my car on my way to work and basically spent the entire freaking time smiling like an idiot. The Sense8 finale came out in June and it was absolutely wonderful. This song was playing during the last scene of the series and I fucking cried my eyes out. The song itself is fucking gorgeous, but what’s more is it made that last scene so much more than it would have been if they’d chosen any other song. I also watched Moonlight sometime in late June. It was one of those quiet nights where nothing really seems good enough, where you feel just a little bit empty inside and nothing is helping. So I watched the movie and read @notbecauseofvictories‘s A Cornstalk Fiddle on my back porch afterwards and the movie combined with the fic and the music turned that quiet empty night into something just as quiet, but a million times more full. Another good memory from 2018 that’ll stay with me for awhile.

I fucking missed hearing Hugh Jackman sing, and like the fucking lead up, of starting the movie with this song and then ENDING it with this song, with that performance, with those fucking lines (this is the moment you’ve waited for) - was so goddamn energizing. I just could not fucking deal.

Okay, okay. So there's this playlist called Wet Black Leaves that I listened to a lot when I started my new job, throughout rainy October and November, everything was just a little too wet and a little too cold, and this whole mix is so atmospheric and gorgeous. I absolutely adore it.

The finale of Wolf 359 fucked everyone up, right? Yeah, obviously. Okay, well the final episode of season 3 of EOS 10 also fucked me right the hell up. Like we’re talking messy crying in the car on the way to your like second or third day at the new job. Anyway, I kind of spiraled and then I went back and listened to Ryan’s mix and found this song and just wanted to kick my heart around for awhile.

xlv. if i could turn back time | cher If I could reach the stars I'd give 'em all to you Then you'd love me, love me, like you used to do If I could turn back time MESSY CRYING. But like, I also really like this song. So MESSY CRYING and also screaming all these words as loudly as I can within the relatively safe confines of my car. I guarantee you that people next to me at stop lights thought that I’d gone through a messy breakup.

xlvi. new rules | dua lipa Three: Don't be his friend You know you're gonna wake up in his bed in the morning And if you're under him, you ain't gettin' over him Okay, but also some of the Ryan songs were catchy in a not heart breaking way, unless you think about the untold story of what exactly went on between Ryan and Akmazian and fill in the blanks and break your own heart.

Cher did an entire cover album of Abba songs in like, late October, I think? And like, my little gay heart fucking exploded and I listened to Cher singing ABBA songs for like three whole weeks and it was fucking fantastic. This... was actually not my favorite of the bunch until I went into a Barnes and Noble to pick up a copy of The Wise Man’s Fear and had a completely transformative experience when I heard it playing softly over the stacks.

And after a brief detour into delightful cher/abba combinations we’re back to tragic EOS 10 songs. Additionally, I’m sick of Hamilton songs fucking me up. I get to see it in person in 2019 and I’m going to make a fool of myself when I cry my eyes out in front of Nick and our friends.

Greetings from Miraland! Love, the POPNikki Team

That’s all of us. All 30+*. This is the team that’s worked (for a lot of us daily) since May to brainstorm, draft, and bring life to this crazy vision-turned-project.

Now that we’re literally 30 days from Zine launch (and two weeks away from launching Site + our YouTube channel), I want to introduce you to everyone because POPNikki is not just the simple FanZine Project I started out asking fans to join. It’s since become a collective of like-minded creators, and don’t you think you’d like to meet all of us?

*NOTE: Our FanArt Team Co-Lead Kira is technically missing from this group shot, but she’s with us in spirit and despite a busy schedule WILL make an appearance in our Summer Zine after all! ^^ Also not pictured is Site Team’s periidote and IRL Team’s Luna-- also with us in spirit!

Team Leads

POPNikki is divided into three divisions and each has its own subdivs requiring, well, WORK. The following group of Contributors help me keep each sector running smoothly (including a Contributor named Lilly who you’ll meet in the next section!).

The Librarian: Editor-in-Chief of POPNikki Zine and the founder of this operation, I have a toe in every division if I really think about it. But my personal skillset lies in brainstorming, cheerleading, and editing, which is why I head up the FanFic Zine Team and Co-Lead FanVid with Sea. ^^ Follow my blog for LN Resources. I archive them neatly so we can find them all again later ^^

Clow: Site Team Co-Lead, Developer, and Zine Editor (read: my partner-in-crime), Clow is a great collaborator who can take a vision, no matter how messy and turn it somehow into exactly what you need + want. Clow’s creative but modern style (and way of thinking) is reflected in the Site she’s helped design (can’t wait for y’all to join and see! ^^). You’ll want to follow Clow’s blog for all sorts of LN related posts, my faves being the lovely Starry Corridor photos found from all over.

Yoko: Unfortunately Yoko is taking a break from Tumblr, but when Site opens, we’ll update with a way to reach her! Yoko is the other Site Team Co-Lead and Developer whose incredible patience and research skills have helped bring Site to fruition.

Ms. Loki: Ah, Loki... What can I say that you don’t already know? When I can’t find my head or my glasses (which often leads to me consistently uploading the wrong things), Ms. Loki is right there going above and beyond the call of IRL Team Co-Lead. Not only does she manage a group of Contributors (and I swear, most days, me!), but she also finds time to Contribute, herself! Look forward to her art and articles as she’s become a key part of our FanArt and IRL Teams. (And if you’re not already following for ALL OF THE LN THINGS... ^^ Ms. Loki is usually the OP!)

Val: FanArt Team Co-Lead Val has really had to step up this season due to an unexpected scheduling conflict. "Single-handedly” juggling a whole team of artists using a collaborative leadership style, Val has shown not only her skill as an artist but as a leader this term. Follow her art blog for a peek at her versatile art style or her personal blog to reciprocate the support she’s shown to POPNikki this Summer~

Sea: My FanVid Co-Lead and one of our three video editors, Sea is just amazing to work with. Perhaps it’s her eye for beauty (or the fact that she can find the beauty in everything), but every conversation ends in laughter and every problem finds a solution. She’s always ready to cheer our team on, so please do the same for her (and we’ll be sure to link you to her personal YouTube channel after Zine Launch!).

Dayan: IRL Team Co-Lead and Artist, Dayan’s ideas and participation have both played integral parts in the fruition of this project. Dayan almost bursts with creativity and an energy that really keeps you going. Did you know that in addition to her LN Blog, she also has another blog for her art? I’m such a fan of all our Contributors, but there’s something so lovely about Dayan’s style that I can’t help but share every post. I feel so lucky to have her on board, and y’all are lucky too because you won’t have to wait for Zine before seeing some of her work. She’s also been working on a very fun Site Feature that will meet you guys once we launch! ^^

*Kira: FanArt Team Co-Lead (and supposed to be on break for this issue, Kira did a few of the background illustrations for Zine articles I know you are going to LOVE! If you don’t follow her LN blog, you’re missing out on a wealth of .png and background resources.

Site + Social Media Contributors

Lilly: Despite a busy schedule offline this season, our Social Media Manager Lilly still managed to pull off a very special project, complete IRL and FanFic write ups, edit, and head the Social Media subdiv by some miracle over the past few months (thank you so much). Lilly’s eye for detail has been extremely valuable and so when you go to follow her LN blog, be sure to note how you’ll only be getting the good stuff over there ;) You may also get to chat with Lilly at some point if you follow us in her domain-- the POPNikki Tumblr (and soon, our other social media).

Red: Our IRL, Site, and Social Media Contributor, Red, has been such a gift to this project. In Fall, we can’t wait to show you the fun project he’s been working on, but in the meantime, look forward to his Game Guides. Are you counting down the minutes with us? Royce: Royce recently joined POPNikki but has hit the ground running. Now our go-to for Site graphics, we can’t wait to hear how you like the awesome visuals Royce has whipped up! Clark: Part of our Social Media subdiv and working on a super fun, super secret FanFic project for a future Zine edition (why yes we are thinking about Fall...), Clark’s been a supporter of this project from the get-go. Follow him for fun from a slew of different fandoms (Monster High meets LN, anyone? I’m just sayin’).

periidote: periidote is a Site Team Contributor who will be helping with Site FanPOP Features starting end of Summer/ early Fall! Follow periidote’s LN blog here and get ready for great content from her~

YouTube Contributors

Legs: My go-to video editor in a pinch (whether it’s for advice or for help or to make sense of this vision I had in a dream...), Legs always returns a product above and beyond expectations. July 18th, y’all. Be ready! And in the meantime, follow Legs, for game-related jargon (including but not limited to Love Nikki)

Haley: FanVid Team Contributor and YouTube Channel manager. Haley is always full of great ideas, but when YouTube opens, feel free to drop us comments with even more!

Brittany: FanVid Team + FanFic Team Contributor Brittany is also one who’s always brainstorming. We can’t wait for you to see her tutorials and meet her ideas in Zine when it drops this August!

LittleAvalonia: I’m very excited for what the future holds with an actress like LittleAvalonia on our team. Funny (and having fun), LittleAvalonia brings a new element to LN FanPOP that we can’t wait to share with you.

Witchy: IRL + FanVid Team Contributor, Witchy, is a gem in the POPNikki Contributor pool. Look forward to Halloween (feels so far, I know!) when we debut their sketch(es ^^) and articles. In the meantime, follow Witchy to check out their art and more.

Joltik: Our newest video editor thanks to her enthusiasm and helpfulness after our latest Open Call, Joltik is already hitting the ground running in her new role! twinklebear: Joining us with awesome content come Fall, twinklebear helps out where needed, particularly in Site Team and of course, here in the FanVid group. ^^

Zine Contributors:

Donsveertje: Donsveertje (known as Beetle to me) is a phenomenal artist who answered a POPNikki Open Call. Happy to help with any project when time allows (and actually working a few zines at the moment!), Beetle has great energy, ideas, and can really bring your vision to the page. The laughs are a blessed bonus. ^^

Fishbone: The more I work with Fishbone, the more I fall in love with her work. An artist who’s willing to try different things (no matter how crazy they sound) until they work, Fishbone is such a dedicated and positive team member. With like a million Tumblr accounts XD (follow them all here and here and here as well!).

ArtisticArmoury: Another Open Call gem, ArtisticArmoury has been so great to work with. Every part of the process is not only well done but also fun as we’ve been having a blast adding even more expression and visual color to the FanFic Feature he’s now a part of. Check out ArtisticArmoury’s art or personal blogs to get a sense of his work.

Inky: Also finding the time between a tight schedule, Inky has jumped into this project as an artist from an Open Call. You may recognize Inky as the artist of that awesome piece re: the doctor. But Inky has another, strictly LN blog that I hope you’re following because it is full of fun LN stuff (like important update infos but also MEMES y’all).

Zemiki: Zemiki is a Feature Artist in the POPNikki Zine Summer Issue. Already known for her great work, Zemiki’s providing several original pieces for fans to enjoy to accompany our second FanFic Feature! Get a feel for her style by following her art or personal blogs.

Astie: IRL Team Contributor Astie has an unstoppable energy that brings life and joy to the POPNikki Team. Look forward to the article Astie has prepared for y’all in Zine this Summer (while we work on finding the link to the Tumblr-- we’ll update you on Site after the launch! ^^).

Roulette: Roulette is such a hardworker for Zine I cannot. Contributing content to both IRL and FanFic Teams, Roulette writes articles and provides Spanish translations for our guides. Give her a follow! (EDITED TO UPDATE: her blog link! Here’s the best account to reach her at~)

Sophie: My writing buddy, I could honestly send all of the virtual hugs to Sophie. Working together on her FanFic Feature story has shown me both her dedication to the game and being a writer-- two of my favorite things in the whole wide world! XD We also share a love of tea (which is besides the point, but still). While you await Zine launch to get a taste of her words, check out her Tumblr and say hi to my hardworking team member (whose mind and articles are split between FanFic and IRL)~

Yasjupe: Another FanFic Team Contributor (and Feature writer), Yas is a writer whose gorgeous ideas flow into gorgeous thoughts and words on paper. I think you’ll truly enjoy the story she’s been working on. Check out her Tumblr while waiting for Zine to drop!

Megaera: After reading a fic by Meg re: Prehistory Lord, I knew she HAD to be a part of POPNikki’s FanFic Team this first issue. Megaera’s Summer Feature does not disappoint, and I count my blessings that I get to work with so many talented writers-- and read their work early, of course ;) Be sure to follow Megaera’s LN blog in the event she posts more fiction! She also has a personal blog you’re welcome to follow.

Rev: For this summer’s issue, IRL Team Rev teamed up with FanVid Team to create a sweet tutorial for you all. Honestly, you’ll be amazed, I think when Zine drops! In future, we might also see articles by this Contributor as Rev is known for helpful guides and great Starry Corridor pics! You can also check out Rev’s personal blog.

Iri: Many of you might recognize Iri for her helpful event guides and suit breakdowns on YouTube. We know her as apart of the team (and seriously, what a joy ^^)! Despite a hectic schedule, Iri has Contributed an article and exclusive interview for you guys this summer. Can you imagine what Fall will bring? NEED MONEY. SIGNAL BOOST.

okay so i definitely feel like a piece of shit doing this because my situation is nowhere near as dire as other people on this site who need money. and by all means please donate to those who are in desperate need of extra funds because while i am struggling here, i can probably get by.

here’s a quick rundown of my situation:

(Skip down to the TL;DR section if you want the gist of everything)

I’m a 24 year old Digital Media Production college senior, which is fancy words for film student. I have a full 16 credit course load this semester.

Basically I work three jobs but only one of them is a paying position. The other two are technically internships and I need them for experience and resume building purposes. My classes and the third job are cutting drastically into the hours for my paying job this semester, which means I am getting shitty paychecks until May when the semester ends. I haven’t even received a paycheck since December 22 due to an illness that knocked me on my ass and put me out of work for two weeks.

My next paycheck should be on February 3rd but until then I only have $12.81 in my bank account to live off of until then.

I have a $95 phone bill due in three days that I cannot pay.

I make $9 an hour, 13 hours per week, with two other unpaid jobs in between, and 6 classes. There’s no way I can possibly afford any of this with my time schedule, which at no point is going to slow down.

TL;DR I am very poor and will continue to be very poor until May. I have a $95 phone bill due in three days and $12 in my bank account currently.

Right now all that I ask is you donate whatever you can but I need at least $100 asap. There is now a paypal donate button in my sidebar. I know my situation is not dire and there are far worse things happening to people on this site that your money can be better suited for. But I really do need help and if you can spare some cash, I would really appreciate it.

I do not have much that I can give in return but if you donate any amount of money, no matter how small, I will do something for you if you wish. I am on a horrible time crunch with my schedule but I will make you something. I am not the best in any of these departments but it’s all I can offer.

Gifs/Graphics/picspams/edits - just sift through that page and take a look at my stuff. It’s been a minute since I’ve made a proper graphic but I will 100% do anything you want. Just as long as it’s a fandom I am familiar with.

Videos - I can edit raw footage or make a fanvid for a couple/show/character. In the case of a fanvid, please make sure it’s a fandom I am familiar with - otherwise it will be too difficult for me to work with UNLESS you are willing to provide the footage, which is doable but can be a pain in the ass. Here are a few links to my better videos to show you what I am capable of: one, two, three, four, five. In the case of raw footage, you would have to contact me so we can thoroughly discuss what you are looking for.

Writing fic - I am definitely not the best writer and it does take me a while to complete something because I hate everything I write lmao but I will write you some fic if you’d like! I would feel most comfortable writing Shevine, Clark/Lex, White Collar, Star Wars, LotR, or anything else that I am super familiar with. Just talk to me about it and we’ll figure something out.

ADDITIONAL SIDE NOTE (NOT NECESSARILY RELEVANT AT THIS TIME):

My school highly recommends that I eventually purchase a lot of high end industry-standard equipment, which is super fucking pricey. This ensures that I have what I need in order to be successful during the rest of my time in college as well as beyond into the workforce.

I need about $200 worth of school supplies for this semester.

At some point in my future I also have to build a $800 - $1000 computer capable of video editing. A lot of my school projects, as well as my future career, depends on me being able to work and edit from home. I also cannot do freelance video editing work without a computer.

I am also being implored by the school faculty to purchase a nice camera which can range in the $1000 price easily.

This equipment will be used for my school work up until graduation and will still be used after graduation as well, as I intend to be a video editor.

These are not my main concern for the moment but I am including them because there is no way I will be able to afford all of this, even when I am working full hours at my paying job.

SECOND ADDITIONAL SIDE NOTE (ALSO NOT CURRENTLY RELEVANT):

I live, rent free, with my older brother, his wife, and their two kids. I am doing relatively okay in this living situation but unfortunately my brother does have certain characteristics similar to those of our abusive father, whom I used to live with prior to Fall 2015. I love my brother and he is a giant goofball, but with my severe social anxiety and depression, living with him can be stressful. In many instances, he’s the one who unintentionally causes a lot of my anxiety or depressive episodes. He often makes me feel useless or worthless, like a waste of space. He constantly ~jokes~ about how he can’t wait for me to move out and pressures to me to save as much money as I possibly can which, as you can tell, is very difficult right now. He ~jokes~ that if I don’t make good grades and save a lot of money, he’ll kick me out of the house. I understand he wants what’s best for me and I do love him and appreciate him for letting me live with him. But he constantly (and unintentionally - I gotta stress that because he’s not a bad person, he’s just a bit of a hardass workaholic who makes 100k a year and never has to think of money as an issue) makes me feel stressed and invalidates any good work I actually do. If I have $700 saved, he tells me I should have $800. If I get an A- on an exam, he tells me it should have been an A.

Living with him makes me anxious and stressed. While it is nowhere near as bad as living with my dad, it’s enough anxiety and stress to the point where I never feel comfortable in the house.

So, as a second side note, I am trying my best to save up for an apartment so I can live with my boyfriend - who is the sweetest person on the planet and I always feel deliriously happy and safe when I am with him. That is the type of living situation I need to be in for the sake of my mental health and the success of my future. I cannot function properly in a home where I am constantly anxious about not living up to my brother’s insane expectations. I need my own space, with someone I love, where I can take care of myself.

The whole point of this is that any leftover money (if I even get any. I don’t know how any of this works or if I will find any success at all lmao I’ll probably make $4 total and finally be able to afford that cup of grapes in the dining hall) will be set aside for apartment purposes.

UPDATE 1/27: you guys are the sweetest and the best and donated around $150 which is more than enough to pay my $95 phone bill this month and have around $50ish leftover for any food or gas money needs. i can’t thank you guys enough.

i will still be accepting donations for the school supplies mentioned above and apartment savings but none of that is a 100% necessity right now. my priority was the phone bill and that has been taken care of thanks to those who donated.

i will possibly make a new post that just focuses on the school/apartment/living costs but like i said, those can just sit on that back burner for a bit. at least until i see how much money i get in this next paycheck, which should be on february 3rd (next friday).

again, thank you guys so much!!!! i hate doing things like this and my boyfriend found out about it last night and it embarrassed the shit out of me lmao but i love you all and appreciate this so much.
