Hi, I’m Emma, honours student at the University of Manitoba, and principal researcher of the “Mind wandering, inattention, and attentional control” study, which aims to investigate the cognitive mechanisms underlying mind wandering and its relation to Adult Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

We are currently seeking volunteers to participate in our online study. This study is intended for any adults, regardless of whether you have been diagnosed with, or suspect you have, ADHD.

In our study, you will complete a sustained attention task known as a go/no-go task. Periodically, the task will pause, and you will be asked to report on your thoughts and experiences just prior to the prompt. Following the sustained attention task you will complete brief questionnaires about your personality, prior experiences, and demographics.

This research has been approved by the Research Ethics Board at the University of Manitoba, Fort Garry campus, and is being completed under the supervision of Dr. Nicholaus Brosowsky.

My Incredibly Serious pitch for twew3 takes place around 10-15 years in the future where many of the protags have since settled down, gotten married, and had kids, most importantly Neku and Rindo, with three kids between them and their respective partners. All's well until one day, through some good 'ol fashioned UG bullshittery, the kids are pulled into the Reaper's Game and are left wandering Shibuya scared and confused and alone until they're noticed by a hoard of Noise and attacked...but just before any blow can land, they're saved by a mysterious figure in a long black cloak and...are those cat whiskers??

Sho doesn't have a clue how or why these kids ended up here, but he does know whose they are. And he definitely knows that he can't just leave them like this...

Meanwhile, back in the RG everyone's understandably freaking the fuck out over their missing kids, and it only helps slightly when Uzuki shows up to explain the situation to them.

"Relax, alright! Your kids are fine. We have someone looking after them while we try to figure out how to get them out of this mess."

"Who?? Is it Kariya? Coco? Is it one of the Shinjuku Reapers?"

"Well, no. It's...someone else you all know."

"Someone we...NO-"

If you've been pinged in this list, congrats! You broke my mind!

First, an explanation.

I create analyzes of people.

REAL people.

Those analyzes are used to predict what that person will say in response to something else.

I do this with EVERYONE.

However,

People are starting to become less and less predictable (and I love predictability, so this kind of freaks me out).

It started with one of my friends- we'll call her Avery.

Avery was- before I met said people in this list below- the one and only person whom I could not predict. So I had to think harder to try.

I tried matching my own responses to certain things with hers, and they were sometimes opposite, sometimes similar, almost never the same.

Eventually I gave up and AS SOON AS I GAVE UP I was able to predict reactions.

Then. That started fading away.

Avery is still, to this day, one of the most unpredictable people I know.

And that's a little scary, and it breaks my mind, but it's quite interesting and fun.

Now, if you are in this list, you're one of the people I can't predict, which is pretty cool!

So I was chatting with my fellow very mentally ill queer coworker friend about mental illness (as we do) and I mentioned how I was realizing that my wildly manic depressive response to grief wasn't... normal...

& they were like 'oh my god Yeah I've been suspecting you're bipolar for a While now' bc apparently I get in... modes... where my pupils are Huge and I'm talking a mile a minute and doing 4 things at once and even my Posture is different

And then I'll come in the next day like all the life's been sucked out of me.

& she mentioned there's type 1 and type 2, 1 being the longterm episodes & 2 being them alternating on a day to day basis. And I'm just like... damng... I sure do seem to have that 2 thing...

Apparently it's not normal to alternate between manic and depressive states! Who knew!

The Bear: Season One, Episode One...

I have reblogged discussions I've had about the opening scenes here but I do want to reiterate. Truly, because a refresher is great when I've re-watched this show out of sync with a plethora of notes for the first 4 episodes of Season Two written down.

Starting at 00:23 [HULU right after the Gas Oven Clicks]

Carmen walking on the bridge where, I’m assuming, Mikey killed himself. There’s no one around. Carmy is approaching that cage. He’s crossing into a yellow section; it should be noted that yellow in terms of traffic means “Slow Down”.  And yet, he’s forgoing any warnings. He approaches the cage, being as small and unintimidating as possible. He wants to appease and keep The Bear in sight and in safety. Now what that safety is, who knows right now? Is it his own or the aspect of preserving Mikey.

Carmen has adjusted, wearing a white T-shirt and blue apron, trying to manage the growling bear. Once he gets close, he opens the cage, on that quiet, bright bridge. Rushing backwards, Carmen continues to back away, shushing and appeasing (or potentially appreciating) what’s coming towards him. But he must be low, unassuming and aware. The bear gets closer and he says, “I know”. As the bear lurches forward, Carmen wakes up in the BOH of the OG Beef.

I don’t mean to be a play-by-play. I mean to highlight how everything is laid out for all to see when Carmy comes back to Chicago.  He’s still in uniform but a stripped down version that is his foundation. He's worthy of the white tee and blue apron, hopefully.

Of course, there’s a dangerous aspect of himself as a Berzatto that will want to snap and create fear – but there’s also respect for Mikey. To me, Mikey is the bear Carmen is open himself up to…on this bridge…in his hometown…to prove he mattered and was worth it in the end. As I shared with thoughtfulchaos773:

“The first 1:30 minutes explains so much of Carmen before we even know who he is. He’s the peacekeeper. He’s the one that sees what holds people back. He can open new doors, freeing a caged thing. He can temper and accept. But, because he’s on THE bridge he and us as the audience connect this bear with Mikey.”

And before any of that can even register, it’s time to go. Before we can evaluate and explore. The clock is literally ticking. Every second now counts.
