The one thing he retained from his 'life' as a 'knight' was the wandering aspect. It's difficult to fulfill self-flagellation when glued to the same area, there's only so much repenting he can do when there's nothing left to solve, and when everyone he's wordlessly beginning to forgive him in the stead of those he'd killed have begun realizing what he's doing.

Atoning, isn't quite the right word for it.

Mostly because the connotations of it sound just too righteous for Ajay's ears.

In spite of this forced-upon propensity for travel, there are certain areas, whole specs of continent that Ajay finds particular difficulty spending any significant amount in.

Even though the United States are certainly and always a good hot-spot to find trouble to perhaps become a solution to.

Not this time around. This time around he's dealing with a kind of people he's never met, and wounds closing precariously slow. The blood still trickles more than it seeps, but it trickles for a while, and where he'd use to have small spots, the side of his head is still warm with red. There's a bloody hand-print on the wall he'd supported himself against and a confused, frightened look on his face as he stares ahead, trying to ignore the phantom weight of a dead body.

The path of the executioner continues to lay itself down before him, a lover beckoning to be embraced, he never wants to take a life again, then why does he keep adding names to the list of fallen he'd felled?

"I didn't mean to," his hands come together, flex awkwardly in the unconscious habit of a blade between them before he extends his incriminating palms in what he hopes is a defensive, placating stance, all but begging the new arrival to not force him into a rerun of the last twenty minutes.

"Listen to me, please, there's no point to this."

List of Background Canon OCs at Encom Tower:

because I keep making up names for the people Ed interacts with and then losing them to the to the void that is the sheer amount of writing on this blog. So here's a list both for my sanity for easy finding and if anyone else wants to use them.

CANON BACKGROUND CHARACTERS: So here's everyone at the launch party for Encom 12:

Including Ed, Alan, Richard Mackey, and Claire, there are twenty people total. Thirteen others seated at the table, two assistants off to the side, and the guy way off to the side in the last screen capture with the champaign glasses that I assume is from some sort of catering service and may or may not actually be affiliated with Encom (Would Encom have their own catering for things like this? probably not but I also wouldn't be surprised if they did).

Richard Mackey: I keep forgetting that Mackey is charman of the board and not CEO. According to Next Day and the ARG, the CEO from the time of Flynn's disappearance to 2010 is Kurt Harding.

Claire Atkinson: Vice chair of the board, maybe? That's what we're going with. She's important enough to have a spot at the table, right next to Mackey. I thought she was Mackey's secretary, but. She's important enough to have a spot at the table. She's important to the Board of Directors.

Ernie:

Not much is known about him, but for the sake of RP, I'm going with his full name is Ernesto Sepulveda, and he's security staff who often works night shift. He may not be business or tech minded, but he's got sharp wits, a kind heart and a mean left hook. He takes his job seriously, and for that, Ed appreciates him.

And now for the unnamed board members. Not sure who a lot of them are yet, but making up names to put to faces for the sake of it. I'm lazy and it's difficult to get screen caps of all of them individually, so here's one with the entire board:

Ed is probably familiar with the people they work directly with, but gonna leave it with just his core group for the sake of not over complicating things.

— BIOGRAPHY WHAT IS ONE TO MAKE OF THE BOY HANDED EVERYTHING AND STILL LEFT YEARNING FOR SOMETHING MORE? When Seong-Hoon is born, he is everything parents desire. They are your picture perfect middle class couple, with aspirations for their children to follow their dreams. Seong-Hoon and his younger sister become the apple of their parents eyes— childhood arts and crafts projects and A+ assignments are the pinnacle of the Ajai household’s decorations. Seong-Hoon lives for such praise, and its only when he realizes he would receive it regardless, no matter how menial the feat, that he grows disinterested. There is nothing to actively work toward, not when anything he does becomes solid gold in his parents’ eyes.

When Seong-Hoon attends high school, he does so with a goal in mind. To become something more than he presently is— to be someone successful in ways that would surpass his family’s current standing in society. Seong-Hoon is diligent— and well-rounded in athletics, sports, and extracurriculars. His parents worry he’s stretching himself too thin, he assures them that when you want something bad enough, there’s no such thing. He recognizes this difference in ideation. It’s why they were able to be so content with their present, mundane existences. They would never wholly understand where he was coming from.

When the time comes to attend university, Seong-Hoon is picking between several Ivys, but he settles on Harvard, where he would remain for his Bachelors and eventual Juris Doctor. He returns home, a newly minted lawyer— acquiring a job as a public offender. He’s a damn good lawyer— (for mediocrity was never his style), and knows he can be a better one if given the opportunity to do so. Somewhere along the way, he crosses paths with MARCIA RAMOS. In her, he recognizes a mutual hunger, an insatiability and intensity he’d only encountered within himself. They take New York City by storm.

It is when they’re at their peak that BURNING GODS makes them an offer. Seong-Hoon, a newly minted assistant district attorney, is moved by the suggestion that he could reach the title of district attorney in record timing. It’s fairly easy to get Marcia on board— with the promise of their mutual glory, there were few lengths they weren’t willing to go to. He loves her for this very reason, and it is the same reason that he eventually goes to despise her. When you’re willing to give up everyone and everything, no matter the risk or cost, how could it not extend to the person who sleeps beside you every night?

The divorce comes and goes with ease— custody and the assets are easily split. Their sole child had presently been enrolled in boarding school anyhow, coming home occasionally for holidays— spending a significant time with his parents. (He could never be half the parents they were— there simply wasn’t a paternal bone in his body. Fatherhood is left on the wayside in the pursuit of glory.) He understands why him and Marcia couldn’t be together. They’re too much alike for one. After all, bad people rarely made for good marriages. This is the simple truth of the matter.

Burning Gods gives Seong-Hoon everything he desires and more. He is granted the position of District Attorney— and it is difficult for the public not to love him. Sure, a time eventually arrives when rumors of Seong-Hoon's mob ties begin circulating, but Seong-Hoon appears practically unmoved in the public eye. A natural time, and a desire to please (when it directly benefits him, of course) had already gotten him this far. Besides, when your district attorney just so happens to be an underboss of one of the most powerful national crime syndicates, then purifying the public of mafia influence became easier said than done. Seong-Hoon Baek is here to stay— intoxicated by the idea of his own infallibility.

RELATIONSHIPS ON & BEYOND THE BLOG: inspired by similar post by @jupiter3

RICHARD HAYES (& Evelyn Hayes @rekant ) are the parents of JUNIPER HAYES.

They raised her in a scientific facility in the desert. Here, they also created SPIRIT, BURNS, HARRIS, AND LILA, who all escaped with Juniper a long time ago. They destroyed the entire facility and left its inhabitants for dead.

Spirit, Harris, and Burns work together in the drug trade. Juniper works at a restaurant and takes care of Lila.

IDRIS (a cult leader) and RACHEL KNIGHT are the parents of ELIJAH, SHIPLEY, and MACKENZIE (in that order I think). Rachel is murdered by Shipley when he is 12. Elijah is murdered by Mackenzie when they are 19 and 22, respectively.

When Rachel dies, Mackenzie strikes up a friendship with recent cult recruit CASS HWANG. This relationship becomes romantic. In young adulthood, they open their relationship to include JM HAMILTON before the cult falls apart.

This open relationship has also expanded to include, in various but limited capacities, Elfgar Mason (@natophonetic ) and Mr. Johnson (@alulars ), Jesse Hagen (@jupiter3) and Cassius Baird (@bluedprints ).

ROSE SINCLAIR (& her brother Henry Sinclair @bluedprints ) join Idris's cult when they are young. Henry and Elijah have a romantic relationship. Rose and Henry flee the cult when Rose is 12.

Spirit went on a road trip (with Houston Morin, Flynn Nichols, and Rin Zucker @jupiter3 ) to track down Shipley and stop him from murdering people because he does that. Shipley was ultimately eaten alive by Rin.

Two-ish years later, Spirit is involved in a torrid psychosexual affair with Flynn. In many verses, four-ish years after that, Flynn and Juniper begin a sexual relationship. Flynn impregnates Juniper and they have two children together: Davy and Lucy.

with the last exam done, the students were finally at ease, making plans for their 2-week long holidays already. dull white clouds covered the blue sky, giving it a sort of nostalgic, romantic mood. it brought some down while it put some others in a good, cheerful mood.

ajay came under the latter category.

parting with his friends, he went to find the junior by the first year classrooms, who he found to be leaning against the wall, speaking to dinesh.

“ aise kaise aana hua? ” called ajay as he jogged over, taking the space next to karan as if his rightful position.

“ speak of the devil and here he arrives— ” teased the tattooed male, “ or is it an angel? ”

“ you're buttering me up already, surely you must have said something about me? ” guessed the tall male, wrapping an arm around karan leisurely and bumping his head against his lightly — an affectionate gesture. “ hey, champ. ”

“ achhe logon ka zamana hi nehi raha! compliment diye toh bhi misunderstanding, rathod bhai! ” huffed dinesh, “ i was just asking if your boy wanted to go on a road trip with a bunch of our friends since the semester exams wrapped up. . . and if he'd be so kind to bring you along. because wherever he goes, you're with his shadow like some knight. ”

ajay laughed, shaking his head. he wouldn't call himself a knight, but he wouldn't deny that he does naturally follow karan along since their first meeting.

“ look at him laughing and not giving me an answer! ” dinesh complained to the first year. it was in line with what he had told karan prior to ajay's arrival.

“ agar city ke andar nehi hai toh woh kahi dur nehi aata, maa ko chodke aana usse pasand nehi. lekin ye sirf das din ka trip hai, maa theek thak rahengi. kam-se-kam tum hi rathod bhai ko kuch samjhao. ”

ajay gives him an easy smile accompanied by a shrug, “ i got plans with maa. maybe some other time? ”

the disappointed noise that comes out of dinesh's mouth has some students passing by give the tattooed male a weird look.

“ what plans? ” inquired dinesh. “ going elsewhere? visiting someone? having relatives over? ”

“ very special plans, ” confirmed ajay.

“ are you getting married or something? are you going to go see the girl? ”

the track star only responded playfully, “ aur batein aapki hogayi ho toh ham bhi apne dost ke sath baat karein? ”

“ haan baat karo subah shaam aapke shahzaade se! mein toh koi dost nehi hoon aapka, jahanpanah! ” sulking, dinesh jogged off, but not before he reminded karan to come along and convince ajay to as well.

these two had become so close, that even ajay's friends were calling them prince and king, noticing how special and important karan was to the college heartthrob.

“ he's got a dramatic flair, does he not? ” chuckled the taller male, ruffling karan's hair. “ are you going? ”

"I'm not," Ajay confirms, but the gentle whispered ferocity of his statement makes it sound more like a rebuttal than a concession to words he can't agree to without soiling parts of her in the prospect.

He doesn't know if that is what ultimately unties the chains from his wrists and allows him to step closer than he'd ever dared on his own accord, not the pinnacle of initiative as he might have been in another life, but truth of the matter is that he does step forward and fingertips he'd calloused before he'd lost the ability to keep his skin broken press into the skin of her face.

He holds her like she's the opposite of something dirty.

Like his hands are covered in blood and she's a white sheet wrapped around a saint's lap, and he will leave fingerprints, he'll dent her... if only she was a different kind of woman, if only she didn't look into cracked mirrors only and assume that the distortion is hers to blame, that no clean no solid no undamaged glass panel could show her anything but that same destroyed version of hers.

And maybe she is broken.

Look at the field she works in.

Look at the monster she's extending those words to, the beast who's arms she fits into, the arms she turns back into human ones by simply breathing near them, returning him the soul he'd lost courage to claim to still live within him.

But it's not all she is. It's not who she is.

It's not her fault.

"I am unafraid, but not because you're something dirty," his thumbs brush over her cheekbones in continued reverent desperation, gaze flickering between her eyes, trembling to deliver his truth unto her, to have her meet him halfway in this confessional and find his words to be true, reflections of facts, the actual mirror she could stand before, the one he's holding where she's all the same but won't shatter beneath the weight of it.

"I'm unafraid because you're...," he breathes out, shaky and resolved all at once, and continues in a whisper. "You're the only one who can keep me clean. You're the only one I can hold, the only one who makes me feel like my hands are clean enough to hold something. And... and I want to hold you... to... I want... so that you can..."

He pauses to inhale, exhale, inhale, exhale, inhale, and then exhale into a soft, shaky chuckle. "You're not dirty, Amelia. You've been wronged. There's a difference. You don't... you don't blame... you shouldn't blame the rose for having its stem cut. It's not its fault."

It's not your fault.
