Once again, this is @pillowspace's AU that I'm kinda going AWOL with. I just want to make something a little more cheerful after leaving Y/N struggling to get home last night.

Clone AU is being a bit prickly, but I think that's mostly cause I want to draw for it rn and I'm still in the throes of color separations whenever I have a spare moment on my tablet. But that'll be done soonish I think? By the end of the week for sure because I need to start making my mylar sheets soon.

Time Loop whump fic will likely be pecked away at throughout the day to deal with school stress. This is just a quick palette cleanser since to me HD Y/N is a bit in the middle personality-wise.

TL is a lot more extraverted and kind, and Clone is the one most likely to cause the DCA to experience the first animatronic heart attack if they ever spoke because every other word would be fuck. HD is one of those people who recognizes the struggle they're in, but they can also find the good moments and appreciate them all the more while giving the bird to everything making life actively harder for them and their little brother.

"You sure you're fine." Gretchen sounds doubtful, but you smile and keep working.

"Positive. Look, nothing really happened in the grand scheme of things, right? I'm not hurt."

"Your hand is bruised, and you had to cancel your cards," Gretchen says, and to prove a point, she grabs your hand.

You flinch, pulling back. "I made it home in one piece and nothing really valuable got stolen," you reply archly, shoving the last of the books towards your friend. "Go put these away. I need to check the computer room to make sure no one needs help."

"This conversation isn't over," Gretchen warns, even as she pushes the cart away. The library is fairly quiet at this point in the day, early in the afternoon, before school is let out and you all get inundated with kids and teens looking to kill a couple hours before their parents get home. It's the perfect time to make sure everything is clean and ready for kids to play.

The computer room is actually pretty quiet, though there is one brightly colored splotch of a person in the corner. You can hear them tapping slowly at the keyboard as you check each computer, wiping things down and logging out of a couple accounts. Eventually, you've made it to the corner with the stranger, struck by just how tall they are.

"Is everything all right?" you ask brightly.

"O-oh!" The stranger is clearly startled, so you take an extra step back, just for safety. "Yes, sorry. I think we, I, signed up for an hour? Has time. passed that fast?"

"No, sorry. There's a timer in the corner, here." You tap at the monitor helpfully. "I didn't mean to confuse you. I just wanted to know if you needed any help."

The stranger doesn't reply, instead fidgeting with what you're guessing is a scarf around their face. "Is your hand okay?" They ask, and you quickly withdraw it, tucking it close to your chest. "I don't mean to pry. It just looks painful."

"Ah, well." You grimace, remembering that Gretchen is going to be on you the moment she's done with her returns. It's easier to hide in the computer room, and besides, what's the likelihood this stranger will talk to her? You decide to sit, still achey from last night and exhausted from a lack of sleep. "I was mugged last night."

"You were what?" The horror in their voice is less grating than it was with your friend, and when you smile, it just feels tired, not forced. "You can't possibly be okay after that!"

"I kind of have to be. It's making some of my duties today a little harder though. I can't exactly balance heavy boxes with this hand, and my coworkers are sweet, but if I don't do my work, I think they're going to send me home." You curl and uncurl your hand slowly, biting the inside of your cheek to keep from grimacing. "And I need the money, so. Here we are, you know?"

"Here we are," they agree, a bit distractedly. They pecked at the computer a little longer, apparently thinking as they suddenly turn back to you. "I can help you move those boxes. I-if you'd like I mean."

"Oh?" You pause, thinking. "Oh, uh. Sure! If you're sure that is. I --- yeah, it'd be really helpful, but you don't have to. You signed up for the computer and oh fuck, I've just started spilling my guts out to you."

They flinch when you curse, muttering something in the middle of your rambling before holding up one gloved (gloves indoors?) hand. "It's all right. We, I, like to help. Just point us in the right direction."

"Okay," you saw, drawing the word out until it's more a sound than a word. "You can help this time. But I'm going to have to do something in return."

"That's not really---"

"Nuh uh," you interrupt, wagging a finger (from the unbruised hand), in front of their face. "Fair's fair, and if you're helping me, I'm helping you. Consider this a rain check."

"Fine," they say, turning to log out of the computer. When they stand, you feel very, very small. "Lead the way, Mx. Librarian."

"That's Librarian Clerk to you," you say, a little teasingly. You do take point, walking through the library to where you and Gretchen had packed away the Halloween decorations. "And what do I call you?"

"Sun," they say, and they take the first of three boxes without so much as a grunt of exertion. Tall and strong. If you were a lesser person, you would be jealous. Maybe you are anyway.

"Sun," you repeat, and it's an unusual name for this unusual not-quite-a-stranger. You lead them towards the back, fiddling with your keys to find the one for the storage closet. "It's very nice to meet you."

"It's nice to meet you too."

PJO, Disney, and Palestine

I'm seeing some nonsense in the PJO fandom rn about how to support Palestine. And, though I'm by no means an expert, I am super super done seeing all the nastiness and bad takes. So I'm gonna try to clear up some confusion.

Long post ahead, bear with me <3

First, let me be real clear: Free Palestine.

I'm not getting into it more than that. You either know already or should know about the ongoing genocide. If you don't know, there are plenty of resources available.

Obviously, we should all be doing everything we can to support Palestine. There are lots of ways to do this. One of those ways is to observe boycotts called for by the BDS (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions) movement.

BDS has a policy on Disney. But it does not mean what most of this fandom thinks it means.

Here is the official list of BDS targets as of three days ago (1/17/24):

You'll notice there are four types of targets. Let's go.

1.) Consumer boycott targets

This is the category most people think of. BDS has asked for a total consumer boycott of these brands. In other words: do not buy from these brands.

Worth noting: Sabra hummus is also a major part of this list. Not sure why it was left out of the graphic.

Here is more info from BDS about the reasoning for these choices. You'll notice that Disney is not in this target category. Let's move on.

2.) Divestment and exclusion targets

This category is about pressuring governments and institutions to end their dealings with these brands on a large scale.

It's really important to note that BDS is not asking consumers to boycott this category. The best way we can support is to put pressure on our institutions (e.g. local governments, universities).

Obviously, if you personally want to stop buying from these brands, you can! But that is not the ask from BDS right now. That is your personal choice.

3.) Pressure targets

And here we have arrived!

BDS is asking us to conduct pressure campaigns against these targets.

This can include boycotting ("when reasonable alternatives exist")! It can also include:

lobbying (sending letters, emails, petitions...)

peaceful disruptions (nonviolent direct action, protests)

social media pressure ("hey followers, go sign this petition! go call this number!" "@ slimy corporation, why do you support genocide?")

Again, if you personally want to boycott these brands, go ahead! That is a valid and worthwhile choice that you can make. It's worth noting though that boycotting does not mean just pirating a show on a different platform.

Boycotting is about ending our support as consumers completely.

That means ending subscriptions, canceling accounts. It also means not consuming any products from these companies or their subsidiaries. For Disney that includes Marvel, ABC, ESPN, Pixar, National Geographic, and literally a billion others. For Google, it's not just the search engine but things like Google Docs and YouTube.

As you can imagine, a complete consumer boycott of these brands would be complicated. That is why, strategically, BDS is not asking for that at this time.

It is imperative that the movement to free Palestine is strategic and organized.

The BDS movement has been doing this work for a long time. Following their lead is a good idea. Directing our energy into the actions they recommend is efficient and vital.

I've seen a lot of people in this fandom saying to boycott Disney as if it's a top priority, or even harassing others for continuing to engage with Disney content. That is nonsense and unhelpful.

There is too much to do, urgently, for us to waste time.

That said, let's briefly go over the last category:

4.) Organic boycott targets

These are boycott campaigns that developed independently. While BDS is not diverting official energy towards fighting these brands, it does support the public in that fight.

In other words, don't buy from these brands.

Summary: Marcus Pike, leader of the FBI Art Crimes Unit, has to form a rather peculiar taskforce. Together with his civilian consultant Lynn Flemming, he is on the hunt to catch a group of art thieves who use pornographic videos as their channel for selling stolen art. This case may prove in more ways than one that yes, P*rn can be a form of art.

Chapter 1 - P*rn is Art

Marcus Pike was sure that he had never been as uncomfortable in his life as he was right now, standing in front of his new task force.

Most of the people in this meeting room did not yet know why they were here, and the different members of the FBI legal department, cyber-crime, his art department and sex crimes were eyeing each other suspiciously and with great interest.

Only his top consultant, Lynn Flemming, who was the reason for this afternoon meeting, seemed to be absolutely relaxed, yet eager to start.

His boss was also sitting at the back of the room, watching.

Now or never Pike, he thought, knowing fully well that it was not going to get less awkward to speak the more he waited.

“Good afternoon everyone, thank you for coming”, he said, not liking that his voice was just a teensy bit higher than normal. He took a sip of his water behind his podium and caught Lynns eyes. She was sitting on a chair at the wall, ready to step in when it was her turn.

Her mint colored hair, that somehow looked like a natural hair color on her, and her out-of-the-norm civilian clothing were a crass spot of color in a room full suits and pencil skirts. She looked like a cloud of cotton candy in a room full of black licorice.

“My name is Marcus Pike, I’m the leader of the FBI art theft department. I know we have asked you here on short notice, but I will explain shortly why this task force was formed.”

Another deep breath.

“We have all seen each other around the building, but we have members of our legal department present”, he pointed at them politely with his hands, before turning to the next department , "as well as cyber-crime, my own art department and sex crimes. I apologize in advance for the video I am about to show you, but it is instrumental for this case.”

He had chosen this meeting room for a reason, because he could plunge it into complete darkness. With a press of a button on a remote, the blinds on the windows shut and he could hit play.

It was only going to be two minutes – but still, two minutes of porn could feel long.

The sound was heard first through the speakers. The sound of pounding flesh, fluids, moans of pleasure, a slap on skin. Then, two actors, very much naked and in the throws of a wild sexual act could be seen.

The HD video showed the frontal view of a king size bed. A blonde woman with surgically enhanced breasts was on her hands and knees, while a black man was pounding into her from behind, making her moan and say some of the filthiest things Marcus had ever heard.

As soon as the camera was shifting though, he hit pause and turned the lights back on.

“Ahem… Sorry about that. No, this is not a mistake. This is one of a collection of videos that are the focus of our investigation. I want you to look closely, not at the couple, but at the painting on the wall directly above the bed behind them.”

Eyes shifted, but Marcus could see that most of the people in the room were uncomfortable. It was not everyday that you watched porn with your colleagues present.

“We believe that this painting”, he continued, “is a genuine Van Gogh, which was stolen roughly six years ago from the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. Lynn, it’s your turn.”

Lynn stood up, with no care in the world.

“Hey guys, I’m Lynn. I’m a consultant with the art department. And this case is kind of my fault.”

Everybody’s eyes were on her now, but she smiled.

“So, I was watching porn yesterday…”

She was met with some incredulous looks, blushes, coughs and some dirty smiles. She rolled her eyes.

“Oh, come on people. Everybody watches porn, and those who say they don’t are liars. Anyway, I was watching porn, when one of these videos caught my eye. I kept watching and found another eight videos such as the one you just saw. That’s when I packed up my stuff and drove over to Pikes place at two in the morning.”

Marcus remembered vividly. A knocking on his door at 3 A.M had woken him up and Lynn had stormed into his apartment like a whirlwind, hooking up her laptop to his TV without so much as a ‘how do you do’ and had started playing porn… in the middle of his living room.

“We did a rough search for the person, or rather company, who uploaded the videos. It’s a studio called, and here comes the mockery, P*rn St*rs – and they got the starry night of Van Gogh as a logo. We had a look at previous videos – some of them are duds, nothing of real value in them, but some of them feature stolen art worth millions of dollars.”

Lynn hit a button on her laptop and opened up a gallery with more than 20 pages of pornography.

That was his sign to take over again while she handled the computer.

“The first video was uploaded five years ago. We looked for a pattern and we think we found one. The oldest videos do not have an active comment section anymore, but the latest ones do. We think, that these videos are a platform for hidden auctions. You comment, with a code word or some such thing, and let the thieves know you’re interested in the painting, or whatever is on auction. Once the auction is over, the video stays on, but comments are disabled, marking the item as sold.”

The crime tickled every agents brain in the room and they were looking at every possible angle. Marcus was excited that everyone in the room seemed to be eager for a hunt.

“I had a meeting all day with our boss, you all know him”, he said, “to create this task force. As this is a very sensitive topic, there are rules to be followed and we have worked out a plan how to catch these people. And the art department hopes that we can count on all of you for your help.”

Lynn killed the monitor, letting the porn disappear.

“The art department will do the honors of watching hours and hours of porn”, he sighed, but was glad that the room laughed. “But of course we can’t be sure what we’ll find. The plan is as follows. If we find a video that we think hits our pool of stolen items, we will forward it to the cyber team. Cyber will try to get any information possible, from locations to IP-Addresses – anything. Your supervisor downstairs has a briefing packet for you.”

Lynn was walking around the room with a bunch of files in her arms, handing them out to the roughly thirty people in the room.

“Now to the sex crimes department. We can’t be sure if any and all things in these videos are legal. So far, thank god, we have not stumbled upon anything involving child pornography, minors or rape – but we can never know. If we think that we have found anything untoward or anything bothers us at all, it will go over to you. You are the experts on this, so we are counting on you.”

“Now for the legal department. The art department will have to watch a lot of sensitive material over the next few weeks. We will be given adapted employment contracts for the duration of this task forces existence, because of the sexual nature of this case. I spoke to our boss though. Before anyone signs this; if anyone, anyone at all, is uncomfortable working on this case, there is a chance to back off now, no questions asked. Our director will be the one to tell me who exactly is on board for this mission, and I will be the only one to know.”

Lynn took over again, having finally finished her task of giving everyone the information they needed. “Agent Pike also had a talk with our in-house counsel team. We are being given extra slots, if there is the need to talk about any sensitive topics, so you can make appointments whenever you want.”

“Finally, we will meet in this meeting room every Monday and Thursday afternoon, to compare any progress. The art department will work in teams of two and from home in order to avoid … incidents and embarrassment as much as possible.”

Marcus did not need to explain to a room full of adults that this was a good solution. Watching porn for hours on end would make everyone either horny, uncomfortable or lead to situations. If this was only shared with one colleague instead of a room full, it would be best.

“As I said, all of your supervisors have a briefing for you as well. As head of the art department I thank you for your cooperation in advance.”

Everyone started to get up, but Lynn yelled: “Stop!”

All eyes were on her, as she opened one of the many cardboard boxes in the corner of the room.

“I made T-Shirts! Everyone gets one.”

She held up a black T-Shirt, with pink lettering: P*rn is Art.

This was news to even Marcus, but it had an effect that he could not deny. Everyone was laughing. The tension was gone and everyone was eager to start. And with Team T-Shirts and a new goal to catch some bad guys, operation P*rn is Art was in full swing.

After the meeting, Marcus, Lynn and six members of his art department team were sitting in his office, sipping Whiskey.

Marcus had a special briefing for them. He was the lead agent for an art department holding almost twenty agents, but now only six of them were present.

“As you can see”, he said, “I handpicked the team for this. Every member in this room is either single, divorced or unattached, so I thought we would be best in handling this. We are going to work from home and I did not want to involve wives, husbands, significant others or kids in this case.”

They all nodded, seeing his reasoning.

“I can’t lie, this is going to be very awkward and it will put a strain to the team. But I trust all of you, and we are adults. That being said, our director cleared an extra budget for us for.. uh... supplies we might need while we work from home.”

“Like what?”, Jenkins asked, emptying his glass.

Marcus sighed. “Anything from take out food, to lube, condoms and toys is included. The FBI is paying, just be sure to keep the invoices so you can be reimbursed.”

That put smiles on the agents faces, but also a few blushes.

“I will let you choose your partners, but I do think I know already who will work together. Just check in with me when you’ve decided. Lynn made me aware of this case, so she will work with me, but if there’s anything any of you need, just call anytime.”

The team exchanged glances, looking between the consultant and their boss. It was blatantly obvious that they had the hots for each other and liked each other a lot.

A few weeks ago, Lynn had even kissed him in front of everyone – a kiss fueled by too much sugar, adrenalin and fatigue that she evidently did not even remember. This was going to be very interesting.

“We start immediately. Home office from tomorrow on. We’ll do shift work from Monday to Saturday, overtime pay is in place. Dismissed.”

“Don’t forget your T-Shirts!”, Lynn chuckled, throwing the porn shirts after her colleagues.

As soon as the door closed behind his agents, Marcus let himself fall into his chair, exhausted. He pressed the palms of his hands against his eyes, groaning.

“This is so uncomfortable”, he groaned.

Lynn thought about what to do. She had brought this case to his attention. Of course she’d had to, important and beautiful stolen art was on the line. But this was going to be awkward. She knew she had feelings for Marcus and watching porn with him for weeks would certainly lead to something.

She just didn’t know what it would lead to.

She knew about his unlucky history with love. She also knew he was a gentleman and would never do anything at all to cross a line. ‘He’s probably going to sit beside me for nine hours with a raging boner if I don’t take the first step’, she thought, sighing.

“Marcus? Let’s go get dinner.”

The pub Lynn had chosen was full of people, but they had found a secluded booth at the back of the building where they could talk in peace.

Between burgers and beer, Lynn waited for the right moment to start the conversation with her boss slash porn partner.

“Marcus, we need to establish a game plan for the next few weeks.”

He sighed, a flush creeping up his neck, which he rubbed embarrassed. But he nodded.

“You’re right.”

“We are going to watch hours and hours of porn together. And seeking out every hour into a bathroom to take care of our urges in private is not going to be very efficient.”

“Uh…”

“Listen to me. It’s important to me to catch these guys. The art is in danger, Marcus. If there is even a tiny chance that a speck of sperm will hit a Van Gogh, I’d rather jump between and get a load of that into my face myself.”

“Lynn!”, he chocked, coughing up his beer. Was she just talking about a load of…of…. To the… to the face?

“Marcus. This is going to be awkward and embarrassing. But I have a suggestion.”

“Alright? Shoot.”

Shoot? Macrus, you idiot! he thought, wondering if the bench h was sitting on was willing to swallow him hole. And at the thought of swallowing, he almost choked again on his beer.

“You are an extremely attractive man. I don’t know if you think I’m attractive, but that is not the point right now. The point is that we will be aroused and that we will be horny.”

“Wha- o… of course I think you’re attractive..”, he mumbled.

She rolled her eyes. “Don’t push yourself, boss.”

He admitted that Teresa and his first wife had been the complete opposites of Lynn. Her candy colored her, her plush physique and her strange clothing style were something he never thought he’d be into, but her smile, her humor, her eyes and, he had to admit, her above average size boobs had him going.

But he would never tell her that. Besides, he was her colleague and her boss. This was going to be an absolute nightmare.

“Anyway, I suggest that for the duration of this task force, we agree on a friends-with-benefits relationship. Sexual intercourse with no strings attached.”

Marcus stared at Lynn as if a second head had just grown from her neck.

“You… want us to have sex.”

“Yes.”

“Y-You’re okay with… having sex with me during this case?”

She sighed, but smiled. It was enjoyable to see him cringe and blushing. But this was the only solution that would make sense, save art and make this case less embarrassing.

“Yes, Marcus. Whenever tension gets high, we hit pause and see what happens. Now- “, she stood up, grabbed her leather satchel and took a place next to him.

“Tomorrow, 9.A.M, your place. I’ll stop by a sex shop real quick now and get us some supplies.”

Before it could get any more awkward, she leaned forward and pressed a kiss to his flaming red cheek.

“Let’s save some art and watch some porn.”

The languages!!! Omg I freaking LOVE THAT?! That's so freaking interesting and makes so much sense aaaaaa! It's so freaking cooool all the different languages unique to this au, I am specifically looking so hard at the fea language I'm geeking out over it ahfkdbksn. Are there languages in this au that are the same in our world? ie: Spanish, French Japanese, ect.?

Each of the gods clearly have their own set of powers (in which i am still trying to catch up on and figure out what's been revealed so far ahfknsjs) so what would you say is each is their favorite? Either to show off, convenience, entertainment, ect. Question 2: are there any powers that the gods share? Or are they all unique?

Definitely there are other languages in the AU since we have characters like Quackity who is very open about his Spanish language. I would say that where the SMP is on the world map would be more english speaking but there are more languages out the world. It is quite hard to grasp though because so many times I've wanted to write c!George being described with his british accent but then remembering that britain wouldn't really exist on the SMP and having to scrap it. Things are still being ironed out, but absolutely there are other languages.

Don't worry about asking questions that might have been answered before or not, I don't mind answering the same questions again and again especially since I don't really have a spot to keep all of the info so it can get confusing. ^^

As for God powers, there are definitely powers shared between Gods and some unique to each one. For instants all Gods have the ability to spawn in items from their realm when they need and most of the Gods can shapeshift to alter their form, either to their "human" form, true form or taking on a new form entirely for one reason or another. While all Gods have the ability for it, it does depend on their skill for it. Some Gods might not shapeshift at all and lose the ability how to, having to relearn. And certain powers can be taught between the Gods. Take for example XD, they are the God of the End but came to the Overworld to live. While they can spawn in what they need from the End Realm, their time living in the Overworld and learning has adapted them to spawn in items from the Overworld too, and can manipulate and terraform the Overworld. These powers obviously got much better after he was blessed by HD (which I did a little comic showing) but they learned the power on their own at first and developed it because it was the environment they were in.

For FAVOURITE powers I think 4K's is definitely his lava manipulation. It can help in combat situations of keeping enemies away and blocking areas as well as him using it for his little harmless lava blob to be a stress reliever (mostly to give out tickles). HD's would definitely be his helper hands powers since it's so convenient for him to use and he can be pampered without moving, but he used to have a power of connecting with everything in the Overworld. Literally EVERYTHING. Every tree, blade of grass, mountain, cave, he could connect and see it all and it was his favourite to use to check up on the Overworld and see everything going on. However the power drained him of energy so much that it's lead to his almost narcolepsy sleep states and since cutting himself off from the Overworld he no longer uses it. XD's favourite power is probably creation/spawning. XD's a very creative soul who loves making things for show off to mortals and Gods and he uses his powers to help enhance that. One of his favourite creations is the tickle dolls which he just loves to show off to mortals and make them play games and bets to get them. Really any power that can be used to play games or make games for mortals is his favourite.

hello!! it's not at all!! i like giving advice (maybe too much lol)

anyways, TIPS ON HOW TO MAKE STAGE GIFS BETTER

use hd videos. it's always the first thing i say but it's true! if your videos isn't at min 1080p, except some decrease in quality

for the next tips, i'll assume you already know how to use photoshop to some extend.

2. topaz is your best friend. think of topaz like makeup for gifs!! i recommend using topaz clean and topaz denoise. while 'clean' helps you making your sets smoother, almost cartoonish (play with the settings!), 'denoise' definitely reduces the noise/pixelly effect on pictures. for both, i use presets setting already exsisting but i fixed them a lil bit to not give a 'doll-like' effect. it's really up to your preferences.

3. smart sharpen isn't. don't overuse it because at frame 37 the gif look too smooth. it's important to understand that gif are just compilation of pictures. some of it are just there to helps the arms' movement. actually, this tip can also be applied to topaz! it's okay if your gif look horrible between 5-10 frames, what matters is the final result.

4. to add to tips #2 and #3, make sure to fix your setting when your subject isn't moving or where the quality is at best.

5. make your coloring before applying your setting. i used to make my coloring at the end but with my setting, i quickly realised that the coloring would also color some minor glitches. it's not really noticeable but when you spent +1 hour on a single gif, you know every pixel lksdjkfd it's also better for smart sharpen because most of the time we make our coloring brighter than the usual video. and since, smart sharpen use the brightness to function, the more there is the better.

6. experiment and have fun! look, i'm going to be honest. if you are starting giffing what you are making rn will look ugly to you in 2 months. and you will wonder how it got so many notes... but it's okay! that's how everyone learn! i also recommend trying some gifmakers' style (coloring or sharpenning). you don't need to post it but i know it helped me discovering some techniques and got me where am i today!

You can't realistically say that the victim isn't affected by credibility for lying under oath, not knowing who she is (that was scummy of the judge to dismiss the Coachella event), declare one side untrustworthy based on substance abuse (a problem most humans face rn) while straight up calling one a liar when they say they faced similiar, deny experts, claim metadata isn't challanged when experts to look at it are requested, take clearly photoshopped things as 2 incidents, state that audio/video shouldn't(and didn't) have a bearing on the trial because "not under oath in the courtroom", claim 2 cops are less useful as witnesses than an individual they knew because they didn't take a report (while using some of what they said as proof, like tf kinda bullshit)

The entire trial was a case that couldn't possibly be won, it was an extremely prejudicial case where the judge dismissed everything that didn't support amber's including her own testimony

speaking of merlin, i am absolutely itching. ITCHING!!! to get started on my second draft...i can see what needs fixing...i have the will...the only problem is that i’m not yet finished with my first draft :/

at first i was like I’D RATHER DIE THAN DRAFT ALL THIS SHIT AGAIN ARE YOU KIDDING ME LMAOOO IT’S GOIN UP LIKE IT IS but i’m coming around bc i think a good 80% of the work would just be my copying and pasting the first draft in a slightly different order and made more concise which is really what i’m craving because a lot of it just needs.......to be cut or reworded or something to make it more Concise and Clean

but i’m torn over the Process because there are two ways i can do this: 1. finish the first draft and then write the second draft or 2. abandon the first draft where it lays and start the second draft immediately and both have their pros & cons

i have a powerful instinct the finish the first draft first because you are NOT supposed to edit and write at the same time!!! and starting a second draft before i’ve finished the first would just be an exercise in semi-productive procrastination. so the pro is i would have a fully complete draft to work with/against and at LONG LAST i could finally say i reached the end. the CON is i currently feel like i’m really slugging through it because It’s Too Big And Long And Muddy and it lacks clarity for the things i would ideally like to bring together

Its somewhat ironic that a movie about time travel can’t be reviewed properly until your future self rewatches the movie. It’s bold of Nolan to make such a thoroughly dense blockbuster. He assumes people will actually want to see C’est la vie more than once so they can understand it properly, which some may not. This movie makes the chronology of Inception look as simplistic as tic-tac-toe. Ergo, it’s hard for me to give an accurate rating, without having seen it twice, as I’m still trying to figure out whether everything does indeed make sense. If it does, this movie is easily a 9 or 10. If it doesn’t, it’s a 6. It’s further not helped by the fact that the dialogue in the first 15 minutes of the movie is painfully hard to understand / hear. Either they were behind masks; they were practically mumbling; the sound effects were too loud; or all of the above. The exposition scenes are also waayyy too brief for something this complex — a problem also shared with Interstellar actually. (Interstellar had this minimalist exposition problem explaining Blight, where if you weren’t careful, you’d miss this one sentence / scene in the entire movie explaining that Blight was a viral bacteria: “Earth’s atmosphere is 80% nitrogen, we don’t even breathe nitrogen. Blight does, and as it thrives, our air gets less and less oxygen”). I guess it’s a Nolan quirk. Hopefully, a revision of the film audio sorts the sound mixing out. I do like the soundtrack, but it’s too loud initially. I liked all the actors. You think John Washington can’t act at first, but he can, and he grows on you as the film progresses. And Pattinson is his usual charming self. Elizabeth is a surprise treat. And so on. Its worth a watch either way. See it with subtitles if you can. And definitely don’t expect to fully understand whats going on the first time around. Its one hell of a complicated film. It will be very hard for an average viewer to gather all the information provided by this movie at the first watch. But the more you watch it, more hidden elements will come to light. And when you are able to put these hidden elements together. You will realize that this movie is just a “masterpiece” which takes the legacy of Christopher Nolan Forward If I talk about acting, Then I have to say that Robert Pattinson has really proved himself as a very good actor in these recent years. And I am sure his acting skills will increase with time. His performance is charming and very smooth. Whenever he is on the camera, he steals the focus John David Washington is also fantastic in this movie. His performance is electrifying, I hope to see more from him in the future. Other characters such as Kenneth Branagh, Elizabeth, Himesh Patel, Dimple Kapadia, Clémence Poésy have also done quite well. And I dont think there is a need to talk about Michael Caine Talking about Music, its awesome. I dont think you will miss Hans Zimmer’s score. Ludwig has done a sufficient job. There is no lack of good score in the movie Gotta love the editing and post production which has been put into this movie. I think its fair to say this Nolan film has focused more in its post production. The main problem in the movie is the sound mixing. Plot is already complex and some dialogues are very soft due to the high music score. It makes it harder to realize what is going on in the movie. Other Nolan movies had loud BGM too. But Audio and dialogues weren’t a problem My humble request to everyone is to please let the movie sink in your thoughts. Let your mind grasp all the elements of this movie. I am sure more people will find it better. Even those who think they got the plot. I can bet they are wrong. C’est la vie is the long awaited new movie from Christopher Nolan. The movie that’s set to reboot the multiplexes post-Covid. It’s a manic, extremely loud, extremely baffling sci-fi cum spy rollercoaster that will please a lot of Nolan fan-boys but which left me with very mixed views. John David Washington (Denzel’s lad) plays “The Protagonist” — a crack-CIA field operative who is an unstoppable one-man army in the style of Hobbs or Shaw. Recruited into an even more shadowy organisation, he’s on the trail of an international arms dealer, Andrei Sator (Kenneth Branagh in full villain mode). Sator is bullying his estranged wife Kat (Elizabeth Debicki) over custody of their son (and the film unusually has a BBFC warning about “Domestic Abuse”). Our hero jets the world to try to prevent a very particular kind of Armageddon while also keeping the vulnerable and attractive Kat alive. This is cinema at its biggest and boldest. Nolan has taken a cinema ‘splurge’ gun, filled it with money, set it on rapid fire, removed the safety and let rip at the screen. Given that Nolan is famous for doing all of his ‘effects’ for real and ‘in camera’, some of what you see performed is almost unbelievable. You thought crashing a train through rush-hour traffic in “Inception” was crazy? You ain’t seen nothing yet with the airport scene! And for lovers of Chinooks (I must admit I am one and rush out of the house to see one if I hear it coming!) there is positively Chinook-p*rn on offer in the film’s ridiculously huge finale. The ‘inversion’ aspects of the story also lends itself to some fight scenes — one in particular in an airport ‘freeport’ — which are both bizarre to watch and, I imagine, technically extremely challenging to pull off. In this regard John David Washington is an acrobatic and talented stunt performer in his own right, and must have trained for months for this role. Nolan’s crew also certainly racked up their air miles pre-lockdown, since the locations range far and wide across the world. The locations encompassed Denmark, Estonia, India, Italy, Norway, the United Kingdom, and United States. Hoyte Van Hoytema’s cinematography is lush in introducing these, especially the beautiful Italian coast scenes. Although I did miss the David Arnold strings that would typically introduce these in a Bond movie: it felt like that was missing. The ‘timey-wimey’ aspects of the plot are also intriguing and very cleverly done. There are numerous points at which you think “Oh, that’s a sloppy continuity error” or “Shame the production design team missed that cracked wing mirror”. Then later in the movie, you get at least a dozen “Aha!” moments. Some of them (no spoilers) are jaw-droppingly spectacular. Perhaps the best twist is hidden in the final line of the movie. I only processed it on the way home. And so to the first of my significant gripes with C’est la vie. The sound mix in the movie is all over the place. I’d go stronger than that… it’s truly awful (expletive deleted)! Nolan often implements Shakespeare’s trick of having characters in the play provide exposition of the plot to aid comprehension. But unfortunately, all of this exposition dialogue was largely incomprehensible. This was due to: the ear-splitting volume of the sound: 2020 movie audiences are going to be suffering from ‘C’est la vieis’! (LOL); the dialogue is poorly mixed with the thumping music by Ludwig Göransson (Wot? No Hans Zimmer?); a large proportion of the dialogue was through masks of varying description (#covid-appropriate). Aaron Taylor-Johnson was particularly unintelligible to my ears. Overall, watching this with subtitles at a special showing might be advisable! OK, so I only have a PhD in Physics… but at times I was completely lost as to the intricacies of the plot. It made “Inception” look like “The Tiger Who Came to Tea”. There was an obvious ‘McGuffin’ in “Inception” — — (“These ‘dream levels’… how exactly are they architected??”…. “Don’t worry… they’ll never notice”. And we didn’t!) In “C’est la vie” there are McGuffins nested in McGuffins. So much of this is casually waved C’est la vie as “future stuff… you’re not qualified” that it feels vaguely condescending to the audience. At one point Sator says to Kat “You don’t know what’s going on, do you?” and she shakes her head blankly. We’re right with you there luv! There are also gaps in the storyline that jar. The word “C’est la vie”? What does it mean. Is it just a password? I’m none the wiser. The manic pace of C’est la vie and the constant din means that the movie gallops along like a series of disconnected (albeit brilliant) action set pieces. For me, it has none of the emotional heart of the Cobb’s marriage problems from “Inception” or the father/daughter separation of “Interstellar”. In fact, you barely care for anyone in the movie, perhaps with the exception of Kat. It’s a talented cast. As mentioned above, John David Washington is muscular and athletic in the role. It’s a big load for the actor to carry in such a tent-pole movie, given his only significant starring role before was in the excellent BlacKkKlansman. But he carries it off well. A worthy successor to Gerard Butler and Jason Statham for action roles in the next 10 years. This is also a great performance by Robert Pattinson, in his most high-profile film in a long time, playing the vaguely alcoholic and Carré-esque support guy. Pattinson’s Potter co-star Clemence Poésy also pops up — rather more un-glam that usual — as the scientist plot-expositor early in the movie. Nolan’s regular Michael Caine also pops up. although the 87-year old legend is starting to show his age: His speech was obviously affected at the time of filming (though nice try Mr Nolan in trying to disguise that with a mouth full of food!). But in my book, any amount of Caine in a movie is a plus. He also gets to deliver the best killer line in the film about snobbery! However, it’s Kenneth Branagh and Elizabeth Debicki that really stand out. They were both fabulous, especially when they were bouncing off each other in their marital battle royale. So, given this was my most anticipated movie of the year, it’s a bit of a curate’s egg for me. A mixture of being awe-struck at times and slightly disappointed at others. It’s a movie which needs a second watch, so I’m heading back today to give my ear drums another bashing! And this is one where I reserve the right to revisit my rating after that second watch… it’s not likely to go down… but it might go up. However, what I can is this: C’est la vie’s story is quite dynamic in the sense that you won’t understand it till it wants you to. So, for the first half, your brain is fighting for hints and pieces to puzzle together the story. It isn’t until halfway through the movie that C’est la vie invites you to the fantastic storytelling by Christopher Nolan. Acting is beyond phenomenal, and I’d be genuinely surprised if neither Robert Pattinson nor John David Washington doesn’t receive an Oscar nomination for best actor. It’s also hard not to mention how good Elizabeth Debicki and Aaron Johnson both are. All around, great acting, and the dialogue amps up the quality of the movie. The idea of this movie is damn fascinating, and while there are films that explore time-travelling, there’s never been anything quite like this. It has such a beautiful charm and for the most part, explains everything thoroughly. It feels so much more complex than any form of time-travelling we’ve seen, and no less could’ve been expected from Nolan. Oh my lord, the score for this film fits so perfectly. Every scene that’s meant to feel intense was amped by a hundred because of how good the score was. Let me just say though, none of them will be found iconic, but they fit the story and scenes so well. In the end, I walked out, feeling very satisfied. Nevertheless, I do have issues with the film that I cannot really express without spoiling bits of the story. There are definitely little inconsistencies that I found myself uncovering as the story progressed. However, I only had one issue that I found impacted my enjoyment. That issue was understanding some of the dialogue. No, not in the sense that the movie is too complicated, but more that it was hard to make out was being said at times. It felt like the movie required subtitles, but that probably was because, at a time in the film, there was far too much exposition. Nevertheless, I loved this film, I’ll be watching it at least two more times, and I think most of you in this group will enjoy it. I definitely suggest watching it in theatres if possible, just so you can get that excitement. (4/5) & (8.5/10) for those that care about number scores. At first, I want to ask Christopher Nolan one question, HOW THE HELL YOU DID THIS? Seriously I want to have an answer, How did he write such as this masterpiece! How did he get this complicated, fabulous and creative idea? What is going on in his mind? The story is written and directed perfectly, the narration style was absolutely unique. I have no idea how can anyone direct such as this story, that was a huge challenge, and as usual Nolan gave us a masterpiece that we’ll put beside (Memento), (Inception) and (Interstellar) The movie is so fast-paced in a good way, there was no boring moment. The chemistry between John David Washington and Robert Pattinson was great and funny and both of their performance was really good. Elizabeth Debicki performance was the best in the movie because she had the chance to show her acting abilities and she cached up that chance and showed us an A level acting. The music wasn’t unique and distinct as the music of Interstellar for example and I think this movie needed the touch of Hans Zimmer, I’m not saying that Ludwig Göransson failed but Hans Zimmer in another level. If there was something I’d say that I didn’t like it in the movie would it be that Nolan discarded any set up or characters backgrounds except Elizabeth Debicki dramatic story but it wasn’t that bad for me, I didn’t care about that, the exciting story didn’t give me the chance to focus on it. But the actual problem was the third act, it was really complicated and I got lost and I convinced myself to discard the questions that were in my head and enjoy the well-made action sequences and Elizabeth Debicki performance. I think this kind of movie that gets better with a second and third watch. I honestly don’t quite know where to begin with C’est la vie. I love Christopher Nolan’s work but I have never seen a more complicated film (and I understood Memento). After nearly three hours, I came C’est la vie from C’est la vie not knowing myself, my mind reduced to nothing more than piles of ash. Was there time travel involved? Hmm, there was definitely something about time inversion. I mean, does Nolan even understand what he wrote? Look, I give credit to the director because he’s one of the few directors left who knows how to create a compelling and intelligent blockbuster. C’est la vie is full of Nolan trademarks — the gratuitous Michael Caine cameo, a loud, really loud score, complete with stunning cinematography and slickly inventive action set-pieces. This time around however, Nolan has finally managed to ‘out-Nolan’ himself: the palindromic plot, whilst creatively ambitious, is simply far too complicated for its own good. C’est la vie is overlong, overstuffed, pretentious and too exhausting to comprehend in its entirety — it makes Inception and Interstellar look like Peppa Pig by comparison. I’m aware of the technical wizardry and creative mastery in this film and lord knows I’ll have to watch this again. For those who want a puzzle, C’est la vie at least provides a unique cinematic experience. But to actually enjoy solving it Nolan wants you to work
