Headcanon Time!
Milton and Giles Grimm edition.
I think, now here me out, they are Narrators from the narrator high school that was revealed in TLOSH. The one made up of words. That one.
Now, I know, I know, I know. TLOSH uses mh gen 2 canon, and some people might not like the book BUT-
Milton is a former narrator that rebelled, he didn't want to watch passively as stories played out. He didn't want to be forced to read them for eternity to a faceless, nameless audience. Milton Grimm is above that. So, he finds out how to break away. He's a character without a story because he is supposed to be the one telling the stories.
Giles warns him about doing this. Tries to convince his younger brother not to risk it all only to be able to change the fate of stories and legends and tall tales alike. So, he follows his brother to Ever After.
Milton, in a way, becomes power hungry. He doesn't like the way certain stories have been. Example, the little mermaid dies in her story. All of a sudden Milton is able to change that. He can interact with the tangible world. He's able to change a lot of things.
Giles scolds him, and reminds him that narrators do not interact with the story. Milton chatisez him, telling him they're players of the same game now and can do what they wish. To prove his point he does something to the storybook of legends, making it what it is today.
And Giles threatens him.
Out of fear of the other Narrators, Milton locks him away in the basement.
Milton has always been jealous of his brothers ability to watch passively, deep deep down he wants to be a normal narrator but he isn't. He can't be. But with his brother locked away he doesn't have to worry about that. He can change things how he likes, and make stories in his vision.
Milton is essentially on a power trip. And he will stop at nothing, to get the power he thinks he deserves.

Do you ever write a sentence and then realize “Nah, that’s too self aware for you” and backspace a bunch of times.

if you're cringing at the genre conventions of the genre you are writing in then why the hell are you writing in it. either have something substantial to say about those conventions or shut the hell up! i will not cringe alongside you at superhero powers and spaceship battles and big eldritch worms and bone magic. i came to this story to SEE that shit and I don't appreciate it when an author tries to pretend they're above the very things they're selling themselves on

The Narrators Propaganda:
THOSE FUCKERS ARE SO SHIFTY THEY JUST SIT THERE AND LET SHITTY STUFF HAPPEN LIKE THEY SAY ITS SUPPOSED TO AND THEY SAY THEY CANT DO ANYTHING BUT THEN THEIR DAUGHTER BREAKS THE RULES TO HELP THE MAIN CHARACTER AND THEY LITEEALLY CPYLDVE DONE THAT AT ANY POINT?? BUT CHOSE NOT TO??
Louis De Pointe Du Lac Propaganda:
It depends on if we're talking about the books or the show but in the second book Lestat (narrator of second book) claims that Louis (narrator of first book) lied about a lot of stuff although to be honest it was mostly just Anne Rice (author) retconning lol. However in the 2022 show he is pretty explicitly unreliable; he changes a lot of facts about the original story to make himself look better/ stronger (i.e. claiming that he mercilessly killed Lestat when he likely didn't and wept over Lestat's dead body). Hopefully someone else submitted him too with better propaganda lol
he regularly lies about his relationship with different people, makes himself look better. I'm not very good at this part i really hope someone else submits him.
made a journalist very angy at him for lying about killing his abusive boyfriend when he actually purposefully kept him alive. was it raining louis
He just hates his ex husband so much at the moment he narrates the story that he turns him into a monster. Then there's the book from said ex point of view and it's really fucking funny

An Attempt At Introductions: Regarding such a title, you must be curious to some extent already. An introduction to whom? To what, even? And above all of that, why? Friends to be made and those already known, We regret to inform you all that some of those questions may be easier than others. Putting name to who We are is rather easy, We are The Narrators. However, explaining what We are may be a far more complicated process, one better shown than told. In some terms, it is Our duty to deliver perspectives of the universe, or perhaps a job of keeping track of it all. Either way, We are eager to report to you all, and hope to inspire something within you along the way. Tune in, wherever you may be, and know We hope to speak to you soon again.
