smaller writing comments on Lycoris Recoil:
I really feel like somebody needed to pull Yoshi aside and go 'uh listen the kid is inhumanly good at dodging but going from there to 'her genetic destiny is to be the greatest assassin ever' is kinda a stretch. hear me out: Olympic-level dodgeball champion'
I will give the show credit for having it clearly not convince everyone, but it's still really funny to me that their idea for covering up a like 30-minute live national broadcast of their secret schoolgirl hit squad graphically murdering people is to basically have somebody stumble out on stage afterward and yell 'SIKE. h-haha, you really bought it huh? no this is just our cool promo movie.'
in turn it is even funnier that everybody involved was like 'problem solved. we were gonna kill all of these girls since they've been compromised, but there is no way anybody will see through our airtight coverup'
I refuse to believe that Chisato 'hyper-competent blonde gunslinger in red clothes whose main character arc is about her moral stance against killing people in a world that pressures her to do so, but actually just wants to be a lovable goofball' Nishikigi isn't a giant Vash the Stampede reference
I also find it pretty funny that in a show that was clearly angling at least partially toward a yuri audience, the two female leads' relationship stays a bit ambiguous, whereas the two middle-aged guys have a relationship that's about as explicit as it can get without one of them turning to the camera and narrating it.
I read an explanation for a lot of my complaints about the themes that I find fully believable, and it is: the show was pretty popular, so it's almost definitely getting a season 2, so they reset everything to the status quo to enable that

May your sins follow you to the grave and beyond.
For my pinned and 4,000th post, I will introduce myself. My name is Elaine Huang, or Ribbonspice if you prefer. I love reading and writing fanfictions, listening to music and surfing the Internet. I'm also demiromantic and pansexual, and I have anxiety, depression, OCD, autism and ADHD. I also have two sideblogs called @demipan-determinator and @the-stolen-solidarity, so feel free to check those out!
For starters, I must make it abundantly clear that I support Palestine. Zionists will be blocked on sight. Here are some useful links that you can check out if you want to support Palestine.
Now, I usually don't care what labels LGBTQIA+ people use as long as they aren't harmful. For example, neopronouns and xenogenders are fine in my book. However, there are some labels that are harmful, such as mspec and straight lesbians/gays, lesboys/turigirls and gaybians. I think this Carrd goes over all these labels very well. It also provides some alternative labels you can use, and there are some other Carrds at the end like it.
If you want to know how I feel about transid people, it's very simple. Terms like transabled and transracial are extremely offensive to disabled people and people of color. Transspecies and transage have been used by zoophiles and pedophiles to justify their attractions. Gender is mental, and therefore can be changed. This is not the case for age or race.
As for non-traumagenic systems, I'm going to keep this as short as possible, since I myself do not have DID. I am against endogenic systems and tulpas for many reasons. This Carrd debunks endogenic systems very well in my opinion. Regarding tulpas, here is a Google Doc in which Buddhist, Asian and Tibetan people have spoken out against tulpamancy, due to tulpas being a closed Buddhist practice.
In regards to proshippers…oh, boy. There are many reasons why proshippers are so harmful, but if I tried to address them all here, it would take too long. This Google Doc is perhaps the best source of information about why proshippers are bad.
I'm neutral on paraphilias unless they actively harm others. Paraphilias like pedophilia, zoophilia and necrophilia are examples of harmful paraphilias. People with these conditions should be seeking treatment.
What about transandrophobia and people who believe in it? I think this should be simple. The term transandrophobia was coined by a man with a fetish for correctively raping lesbians and many of the people who believe in it are transmisogynistic and lesbophobic. I think that should be enough of a reason as to why I don't support people who use it.

Story Pile: Lycoris Recoil
New Post has been published on PRESS.exe: Story Pile: Lycoris Recoil
Lycoris Recoil is a 2022 action thriller anime about a pair of girls working to prevent terror attacks in Tokyo, while they get to know one another and become GOOD FRIENDS, while a plot happens around them. You know the type, right?
I am going to talk about things all through the series, I am going to spoil major twists, I am going to Talk About This Show. This serves as a spoiler warning, but also a content warning; this is a show that features guns, lots of guns, police shootings, medical tension, terrorism, bad dads, and dead probably-gays. It’s an action thriller anime set in a terrorism-wracked Japan, don’t imagine you’re getting something else just because there are girls on the posters.
Lycoris Recoil is your typical form of a Cute Girls With A Special Interest genre, where that special interest is covert ops counterterrorism. The story starts following Takina Inoue, a Lycoris working the exciting job of protecting Japan’s peace through missions she’s assigned from the secret organisation Direct Attack. But wouldn’t ya know it, on her first mission, she messes up! Aw beans!
In the tradition of failing on mission one, she then gets kicked from her on-the-fast-track-for-promotion, top-of-the-class, you-haven’t-messed-up-once style status to the obligatory you-have-messed-up-and-lost-everything status, resulting in her getting bounced from the central offices with the nice water cooler and the sodas in the fridge, down to the middle of nowhere, to work in the LycoReco cafeteria alongside another Messed Up Bad Lycoris, Chisato Nishikigi. They’ve got no budget, no support, their coordinator is old (like, thirty), and how good can this other loser be?
Based on that, Takina has to just overcome this mess up, do the missions right, and get herself out of this slump! It’s the classic setup for your come-from-behind loser story!
Except her coworker Chisato isn’t here because she sucks, she’s here because she’s a walking talking john woo movie in spanx. Takina is not the main character of this story, the one good player who has to learn to relax as she helps elevate a group of losers, she’s the eye-level character for observing the LycoReco staff and particularly Chisato. Chisato, you see, is here because she, also, screwed up, kinda. Direct Action thinks she screwed up, because she didn’t kill someone they wanted her to kill. In fact, she doesn’t kill anyone they want her to kill. Chisato uses specialised bullets that only ever disable or stun people, (which yes, is silly, considering these bullets do go through metal and wood), but this also lets her do moves that are cool as hell, and lets them show her unloading multiple shots into hard targets and makes the gun less ‘instant kill’ and more ‘balletic fight’ element.
Oh and she’s bulletproof.
Not that she can’t be hurt by bullets, but that anyone who shoots at her misses. Anyone. She’s so good at Guns, she can avoid being shot at by just observing the way the shooter behaves (which yes, is sillier, because she does it even when she can’t see the shooter). Chisato is simply the best at this particular genre of ‘doing things with guns,’ and that’s why Direct Action hasn’t gotten rid of her.
It’s not that Takina isn’t good, it’s that Chisato is categorically better than everyone else, and freed from fears of failure and the threat of mortality in most situations, it means that she gets to consider Direct Action, the project, in terms of its goals and ambitions, and make choices, rather than just comply with this organisation that holds over you all your opportunity for advancement. Chisato, in this context, decides that she wants to not kill people, and fight to protect people.
And that’s your kick. That’s the story.
Now, how gay is it?
When we talk about queerness in anime there’s a lot of different systems ratcheting into place that can make people heavily invested in the genre look absolutely bonkers.
This guy grabs this other guy’s sleeve and pulls on it, with his eyes not visible? Oh wow, they’re fucking, that’s incredible.
Anime experts
This can be extraordinarily weird when you recognise that there are openly and tangibly queer anime, anime that Asks And Tells in the most blatant way. If nothing else, there’s a lot of hentai studios out there. When there are openly and canonically, not-kidding no-really queer media out there like Yuri on Ice, the fact that a large portion of the supposed queer representation in anime is always at best implied or created by extension of existing ideas. Ranma 1/2 is a seminally important queer text made by a woman who definitely wasn’t trying to make one and is probably also a homophobe (just based on statistics and age). I won’t name names because I don’t want to deal with people who are permanently brainboiled in online discourse about how ‘no really, this is obviously queer’ when I describe that a lot of queerness in anime has to be implied.
Now this is in part because anime is a really conservative industry. Not the art form – the industry. The people signing cheques are paying for genre media for merchandising, and that means that mostly, you get a lot of stuff that looks like it can be monetised in similar ways and the quality of the media itself is less important than what it is. Anime is not a rich industry and yet, the people who are paying money to get the anime made tend to be people who make conservative choices and who want to appeal to an audience they like.
In anime, of course. Manga has the whole doujin scene and lower production costs and that is a space where queer shit is really everywhere.
With that in mind, then, how queer is Lycoris Recoil?
Gunna level with you: We don’t get a kiss. We don’t get a confession. We don’t get admission of the homosexualities. What we get instead is merely in the ‘deniably adjacent’ space. It’s not in the next category over – you know, the ‘real reach’ style where characters just engaging with one another is enough to declare them canonically yuri – but instead, there’s a bunch of signifiers that look in aggregate like the story is guiding towards these two girls banging.
In the same way that Sk8 The Infinity is an incredibly gay show that features nothing gay, Lycoris Recoil is a really gay anime. The girls go on dates. They dress up together. They inspect each other’s underwear. They work together, they fight together, they take care of each other, they move in together after one date and become roommates and they learn each other’s little tells. They go to the aquarium and reference other queer anime. They run away to Hawaii together to run a food truck. And yeah, you may point out that none of that is canonically gay, and you’re right!
There’s also the way Chisato has two male mentors who the story really implies are banging. If Captain Kirk was getting laid in Star Trek, then Chisato’s dads were fucking in this.
There’s this image, that chances are, you’ve seen before, which is an optical illusion, sorta. If you look at the image one way, you see two people facing each other, about to kiss, or talking to one another, or inspecting itself in the mirror – just a bunch of different interpretations. If you look at it in another way, you can see a silhouette of a candlestick or vase or something like that. This is an enduring image in a variety of kid’s books, and it’s often framed with this misformed question ‘what does this depict?’
Because it depicts both, as far as you can perceive it. The nature of semiotics means that the message being decoded is part of the message – I might parse it as something else entirely, like seeing maybe a river inlet from above, or a date stamp, all just because those are shapes I more powerfully associate like this.
This image presents you with multiple things that are not related to one another, despite sharing a frame and boundaries. What matters is how you’re looking at it, what details are standing out and meant to represent a surface while you engage with it. As long as you have it in mind and consider its importance, you’re left with different impressions and, like this illusion, if you blink, you might find yourself in a totally different frame where the same objects stand out to you starkly in how they present the same visual information.
These ideas are shaped by the same boundaries and the same frame, but they are not the same ideas, and the ideas do not have to have anything to do with one another. I want to direct your attention to this image, to this vase, to this image that is faces and a river and a candlestick, because Lycoris Recoil is a thing, and another thing, and another thing, and none of these things have to have anything to do with one another.
First of all, perhaps the first reason I like this anime, the easiest to see, the easiest to grasp: This series is rad and full of stuff people like me find obviously rad. It’s got sick gunplay and stylish action sequences, and they’re juuuust long enough that the tension exhalation at the end is a huge relief. It’s so fast and it doesn’t pad that out the way that anime often pads out combat sequences, but it doesn’t get confusing!
And then it’s about this walking talking war of a woman who is rad, and she has a bestie, who contrasts with her and they’re probably crushing on one another, you know, the way that other girls comment on them asking if they’re gay? And Chisato has these great ideas, these things that form how she approaches the world, like how she talks about how important it is to do what feels honest to her, and then capping that off by saying she’s going to go beat up the bully that was mean to Takina.
The greater spread of the series, though, it doesn’t just rely on these small moments. There’s this greater, spreading idea about secret organisations and ideology of the wealthy that distribute their mercies at wild and random, and how that creates ideologically framed obligations, and those obligations are at the behest of the kind of people who buy into the random distributions of secret wealth. It’s this great little spilled wad of spider silk where if you buy into it, you’re stuck, you’re tangled up, and if you stand outside it, it’s just a blob. You can boil your brains in ‘well of course this is a reasonable moral quandrary’ and then the second you stop buying into the idea of it, you can realise that’s fucking nonsense.
Chisato stands apart from this ideology and its demand, and then refuses to be lied into an ideology. There’s a worldview this moral quandrary demands, and she rejects that worldview as she rejects the quandrary. Chisato refuses to kill, and when forced by conspiracy to despair and kill in order to save herself, she refuses, because her own moral framework rejects the premise of the conspiracy. She’s willing to walk away from everything and die rather than kill against her morals.
That’s awesome.
Then there’s this other thing, another way to look at the vase, where this story is about how fucked up it is the level of social control we exert on women in general?
The universe of Lycoris Recoil is one where the social controls and standards women are held to is just a hyper-real version of the one we already have. Women are used because women get to be invisible and they get to be invisible because they are meaningless – because nobody would expect danger from a schoolgirl, even in a world with guns. This creates this contrasting pair of demands; women are the most dangerous thing in the world (really), but also they are helpless because they exist to obey the orders of the social order (also really).
The appearances and presentation of women are a repeatedly examined detail. How they dress, how they are allowed to present, the ways that they are supposed to look and the ways they’re meant to behave. They drill on things, and the opening presents waves of these girls, all made to look like one another, moving in a cloud, onto the task of what we already know is sometimes fatal and almost always results in someone dying. The world exists as it is and gets to support itself entirely because of how it controls women…
… and women are more complex than that.
(I mean, the idea they’re schoolgirls is also fanciful, I mean when you have two jobs and your own apartment and no parents taking care of your bills, telling me you’re a teenager is a goddamn lie, but whatever).
Chisato doesn’t want to be a Lycoris, she’s good at it, and she likes doing it, but it’s not her big dream. Left to her own devices, notice how she keeps wanting to do things like give people food and hang out with her (not-really-)girlfriend. Her desire is to do good, to take care of people. That’s enough for her, that’s all she wants and she’s a great hero who exists to press out against this system that tells her how to be what she is. She doesn’t want to abandon being a girl, or cute, or fun, or happy – she’s okay with some of the things she’s had imposed on her – but she doesn’t want them imposed.
Oh and then finally, most damningly, holy shit, this world is a fascist dictatorship and the narrative doesn’t think that’s a problem. These characters are kill squads! They disappear terrorists, but they don’t actually make things safer, because there are still police around, and those police are terrible at de-escalation. It’s a little second-amendmenty of the narrative to be all ‘look, just give people a gun and the power of the gun will compel the world to change,’ but then it doesn’t seem to think that’s a good thing.
But also, this whole structure that lets Chisato and Takina get into these super cool fights where they get to look cool rely on a world full of violent crime in a fascist police state that’s killing and removing people extrajudicially in the name of preventing terrorism but which nonetheless still has an ongoing supply of non-stop terrorists to have to deal with. Terrorism isn’t a natural phenomenon, it’s a response to deprivation and political disempowerment and factors of radicalisation.
Know what might radicalise a population? Living in a fascist police state!
And then at the end of it all… it’s not like they get rid of it. The characters get out of it, that’s great, but they don’t fix it. After all the fighting for big ideas and the safety and wellbeing for people, they don’t stop the threat represented by a system that can periodically murder people without any due recourse.
I can understand the feeling at the heart of Lycoris Recoil with its seemingly ‘whatcha gunna do’ neoliberal wishy-washy ending. The problems – in my life and in the story – are big and vast and I cannot address them; I’m not nearly as badass as either of these girls, even if it’s easy to imagine being able to do what they do should make you powerful enough to change things. I can’t even find people in meaningful positions of power – the Lycoris have an entire death squad designed to take them out if they get out of line, and the story about toppling that structure may involve a re-envisioning of the world that doesn’t have room for cool things in this setting. Like, the whole story is about how cool Lycoris are but it’s also about how the Lycoris shouldn’t exist.
It is, as always, easier to imagine the end of the world than the end of capitalism.
It all just depends on what part of the vase I focus on. If I’m looking at the Lycoris organisation and the stated facts of the setting where occasionally they disappear people, this place sucks. If I look at Takina, I think about how unfair it is that you can work as hard as possible to the extent that your identity itself suffers and you’ll still never be treated fairly under The System that tells you the problem is you didn’t work hard enough. If I’m looking at Chisato, I think about how ironclad devotion to your ideals and a willingness to do violence to protect them is, itself, a way to build something or resist the very corruption that brings you into existence.
I don’t think Lycoris Recoil was ever made to be this intentionally deep. I think it was made to sell merchandise of cute girls and airsoft guns. I think that’s why I find myself liking it so much: I don’t feel like this is a series with a specific point as much as a narrative that wants to include things it likes, and that inclusion has created this strange, misshapen vase.
Time to time, I am reminded of this tweet:
me: i am fundementally opposed to the monarchy and the church as ruling powers. history is a record of their atrocities
my therapist: that’s fair
me: but i love it when the chosen king reclaims his divine sword and leads his army in glorious battle
my therapist: who doesn’t
And I think about it so much more when I think about Lycoris Recoil.
I love this anime, I love these characters, I enjoy the story, I love how it stands up for big ideas it believes in. It seems amazing at the things it’s trying to do a good job of, and it’s full of cool things for characters to do.
And I turn the vase a little more as I set it down.
Check it out on PRESS.exe to see it with images and links!

Lycoris Recoil:
Tumblr media
Synopsis: The number of terrorist acts in Japan has never been lower, thanks to the efforts of a syndicate called Direct Attack (DA). The organization raises orphaned girls as killers to carry out assassinations under their "Lycoris" program. Takina Inoue is an exceptional Lycoris with a strong sense of purpose and a penchant for perfection. Unfortunately, a hostage situation tests her patience, and the resulting act of insubordination leads to her transfer out of DA. Not thrilled about losing the only place she belonged to, she reluctantly arrives at her new base of operations—LycoReco, a cafe in disguise. Takina's new partner, however, turns out to be quite different from what she imagined. Despite being the famed Lycoris prodigy, Chisato Nishikigi appears almost unconcerned with her duties. She drags Takina along on all kinds of odd jobs under the simple explanation of helping people in need. Takina is even more puzzled when Chisato takes down a group of armed assailants without killing any of them. Feeling like a fish out of water, Takina itches to get reinstated into DA—but Chisato is determined to prove to her that there is more to a life than just taking them. [Written by MAL Rewrite]
Tumblr media
Status: Completed
My Rating: 8/10
Finished airing in 2022 with a total of 13 episodes.
Cute girls with guns.
The Good:
Stylish, very nice artwork, character design and animation
Enjoyable opening and ending themes
Uplifting... mostly
Chisato x Takina
Character driven
The Not so good:
Lacking some substance, it prioritizes action, character and style over a proper story
plot holes
Overall it was an enjoyable anime, i’d likely watch a second season but I wouldn’t say it was my favourite anime of the season so far or anything incredibly fresh. Still good though!

Takina Inoue is an exceptional Lycoris with a strong sense of purpose and a penchant for perfection. Unfortunately, a hostage situation tests her patience, and the resulting act of insubordination leads to her transfer out of DA. Not thrilled about losing the only place she belonged to, she reluctantly arrives at her new base of operations LycoReco, a cafe in disguise.
Feeling like a fish out of water, Takina itches to get reinstated into DA-but Chisato is determined to prove to her that there is more to a life than just taking them.
Chisato: There's an emergency! Yoshi, Yoshi san got caught.
Mika: Wait Chisato, by whom?
While Mika is confused. Chisato slowly shows the video on her phone who's
someone unknown who sent it.
Mika: It's Yoshi. "What the hell? This time, what exactly are you aiming for. Yoshi?" While in thought.
Chisato: That's right, it's him.
Mika, who's lost in thought, Chisato immediately noticed.
Chisato: Teach?
Mika: Ohhh it's nothing. What's your plan? "The fact Yoshi got caught makes it seem like nothing good will happen. I need to stop Chisato."
Chisato: Isn't it obvious?
Chisato: Hahahaha Yoshi is My savior after all.
Mika: I see.
While both of them were preparing, someone suddenly called
Mika: Hello?
Robota: Yow is Chisato there?
Mika: Hmmm? Chisato, there's a call for you.
Chisato: Who's this?
Majima: If you want to save Yoshi, come visit where we first met.
Majima hangs up the call and Chisato, who fell into confusion suddenly speaks thewords.
Chisato: The Old Radio Tower, that bastard!
Chisato: That's right, the "Radio Tower Incident".
Without further thought Chisato immediately ran toward the door and went outside.
Mika: Wait, I'm going too. Hey the car!
And so Chisato and Mika leave the Cafe....
Meanwhile Kurumi and Mizuki are at the airport, planning to fly to another country.
Kurumi: It seems like it's already our goodbye?
Mizuki: It seems like it, It's Chisato's wish after all.
Kurumi...
Mizuki: Then? What are you going to do after this?
Kurumi: Who knows, maybe for now I'm going to lay low for a while and go to Germany.
Mizuki: It's a good plan if you're lucky, no one will chase you there.
Kurumi: Yeah! Then see you.
Mizuki: Ohhh by the way.
Mizuki: Thank you for the first class ticket, you really are the best hacker in the world.
Kurumi: Yours is the economy. Hahabaha
Mizuki: Kuhhh! You brat!
While Kurumi was waiting for the plane to take off and using her VR searching of possibilities to find the solution for Chisato's sakes, she finally found it.
Kurumi: I found it. Yesss I finally found it!
Kurumi: The artificial heart!
While in The old radio tower, both of them noticed that there's an eye everywhere. Above them are drones that are surveilling every move of them, using the custom shotgun of Chisato, she reloads it with rubber bullets and she shoots them one by one.
Chisato: Teach I'm going now!
Mika: Yeah Be Careful!
Mika positioned himself a better spot for sniper and while Chisato raided the enemy one by one. Mika gives his best support to help her.
Mika: Hello Chisato you hear Me, yes?
Chisato: Yeah! Whoaaaa! Eyy! Woooh!
Mika: Chisato?
Chisato: Hahahaha Teach I can hear you!
Mika: sigh.....
Mika: now that you've entered the tower won't be able to support you property, so please becareful okay?
Chisato: Leave this to me.
For a while...
And so Chisato who was dumbfounded when she finally saw him tied to the chair. Miraculously he didn't even have a single scar, Chisato didn't notice it. Because of being blinded by Joyous in her eyes that she finally sees her savior again. Not knowing that her savior is always on her side. Always visiting the cafe and so still didn't notice that it's him. The one and only, it's her savior.
Yoshi: Chisato? see so you really came here huh?
Chisato: Yoshi san... hehehe Yeah
Majima: Ohhh ohhh Sorry for disturbing your reunion but you know... it's really making me sick and intrigued me.
Pushing the button in his hand. Majima in an instant finally had an upper hand.
Chisato: Huh? The light!?
All over the place the light has been cut off. Nothing can see but only just a full of darkness.
Majima instantly shot her 3 times but Chisato dodge all of them, in exchange Yoshi got shot
Chisato: Huh?! Yoshi san I'm sorry!
Chisato instantly fireback, pick the torch and Turning her back to see what happened. Chisato got shock seeing Yoshi got away, It has nowhere to be found.
Majima: You dodge them huh? As expected, in exchange there's a person who got hurt because of your action.
Pointing the lights towards him. Chisato fire him using the remaining rubber bullet in magazines. But Majima suddenly disappeared.
Chisato: Why are you here!?
Majima: Guess what?
Majima whispered in her back and Chisato suddenly freaked out. Chisato pointed the light and shot him, but again it's nowhere to be found.
Chisato: You can see all this!?
Majima: I can hear it.
Chisato: Sound, huh?
Majima: Correct, But sight is everything!
Tumblr media
Majima launched a blow towards her getting knocked back, And so Chisato hit the wall. Majima again tries to hit her but this time using his kicks.
Chisato: Gotcha!
Chisato catch her legs, using the momentom Chisato got distance and got chance to hit the his ball.
Chisato: Yeahhhh! Gotcha! You Fucking Freak!
Majima: Kuhhh! You Bitch!
Chisato loudly laugh while firing him countess of time. All the bullet hit him, Majima distance himself to recover. Chisato too use this opportunity to find Yoshi and distace towards him.
Majima: Uhgggg that girl. There are so many weak points that are going to be hitted, but why here!
Meanwhile:
Kurumi: Hello Takina, you hear me yes?
Takina: Yes I can hear you. Sorry but right now I'm on a mission.
Kurumi: Mission, you know what situation you are in right now!?
Takina: Huh!? Where going to New Tower, there's a tip that terrorist gather there.
Kurumi: I already see the new heart of Chisto.
Takina: Wait Kurumi!? How? Okay okay I'm going now.
Team leader: Takina where are you going!?
Takina: To Chisato...
Majima who's a talent to hear all sound to his certain surroundings to the point where eve all pitch black that even eyes can't possibly see with out a torch. But incase of him Majima already memorize and predicted all the things around.
Chisato who's blindly weak against dark place, where her eyes can't even glimps a bit of light. Without a torch on her hand. Majima suddenly attacks Chisato, using the bareback of the gun. Majima uses it to hit her and to disarm the firearms.
Chisato tries to fire back but her weakness in the dark becomes an obstacle to not hitting Majima.
Majima who ran against her. Chisato, who continues to run to get distance, suddenly strips the cause of things around. Chisato immediately got up and recovered
Majima: Finally your guard is down!
He successfully set apart the light she was carrying.
Chisato sees Majima and takes this opportunity to hit him using a gun. Chisato hit him in the chest, legs, and right arm.
Majima fell in serious pain. Try to Fireback! Trying to fire in her left arm, right leg, and head. And so Majima was amazed!
Malima: who ahhhh HAHAHAHA
Majima: You dodge them all. Determining the trajectory and shot timing from minuscule movements of the opponent... No wonder Alan institute was interested in it.
Majima: That's an amazing ability.
Chisato who follows the minuscule change on his muscle. She predicted where the
bullet going to hit and successfully dodge it.
Chisato: Gotcha!
Majima: Huh?! Gotcha?
Clueless and doesn't have any ideas of what's on to her.
Chisato: finally see what I need "It's My FlashLight!"
Majima: ...
Majima who's dumbfoundedly pissed!
Majima again disarmed it and broke it.
Chisato: Waaaaaaaaaaah! Again!?
And so the fight continues.....
Kurumi calls Takina in order to inform her of Chisato's situation. Takina Kurumi I'm in front of the Old Radio Tower now.
Kurumi: Good, Right now her situation doesn't bad but if this continues it won't be easy for her.
Kurumi: I have something that is attached to her after all so I know her condition.
Takina: Okay copy!
Out of nowhere the full darkness suddenly shattered. There's a light suddenly crossing in front of them. The wall has been broken, It's Takina.
Tumblr media
Chisato: Takina!?
Majima: Huh!?
Takina lands a right kick on his face, lands to the right, backwards kick, pushing front face, right hook and uppercut. Aside from martial arts she pulled her gun intent to kill him, Chisato pulled the gun and shot him.
Majima: Ughhh!
Majima tries to come closer grabbing the gun to disarm her and using it against Chisato. The remaining Bullets rained down on Chisato, but Smooth dodged them all. Majima pushed Takina towards Chisato. Distanced himself against two of them to pick his own gun and shot to them
Using the bulletproof bag. Chisato catches Takina and blocks the bullet coming towards them. First shot, second shot, third shot and so on. All of them had been blocked, but the bag splashed out.
Majima: Ughhh so unlucky.
Majima now has no ammo. Seeing both of them working together and knowing there's nothing he can do.
Chisato fires him countless times to the point he gets unconscious.
Takina: Ahhhhhhhhh.
Takina jumps on him trying to kill him, but Chisato restrains her.
Chisato: Takina! Takina! It's over now!
Meanwhile Yoshi suddenly sneaks out and grabs Takina.
Yoshi thought Chisato, it's for the world. must be triggered to deliver your talent to the world. In order to do that I must be the sacrifice.
Chisato: Takina Coughs! Coughhh!
Takina: Ahhhh Chisato!
Chisato who's never killed before. Tries to rescue Takina, who was taken hostage by Yoshi, But she has no ammo left in hand. Chisato grabbed the gun of Takina but knowing it's a real bullet, Chisto hesitated.
Chisato: Yoshi san! Why!? Why are you doing this!?
Yoshi: Your talent is not supposed to be here, and you know that I'm right?
Yoshi: Mika already told you and yet why are you here, Rescuing me? Are making fun of me!
Chisato: ...
Yoshi: I will drop Taking if you want her, kill me first.
Chisato: Yoshi san! Noooooo!
Yoshi: It's your end takina.
Yoshi san let Takina go but a sudden sound woke everyone up. Chisato fires him, it's a critical hit. Yoshi has been laid down.
Chisato: Huuuuuuuu!
When the servant arrived, she saw him and saw his master lying down, she immediately approached him and helped him.
In a second, It's just like time has stopped for her. Chisato runs towards Takina to catch her, knowing her limit will be over. But still pushes her limit, a heavily breathing and hard noises, In the end she lifts her.
Takina: Chisato you...
Chisato: Ahhh got you....
Heavily breathing and looking pale, Chosato lost consciousness for a moment.
Takina sees the briefcase that Kurumi mentioned and so she remembered what Kurumi said earlier.
Flashback...
Kurumi: Listen here Takina, no matter what happened you must retrieve it.
Takina: Retrieve?
Kurumi: The brief case, It contains of Chisato's new artificial heart. She has only less than a month left on her life, considering the energy that she used. She won't last long either.
Kurumi: That's why no matter what happens you must take it as a priority!
Takina: ....
The assistant that is helping Yoshi tries to run together with her master. Takina gets furious and runs over them. So Takina forgot to notice Chisato that was lying over near the broken and holed wall on the verge of death and was going to fall.
Yoshi: Chisato!
Yoshi pointed his finger towards her daring to noticed that Chisato is going to fall.
Takina: Huh!?
Takina turned her back,
Takina: Huuuuuuh!!! Chisatooooo!
Chisato has been fall but luckily waked and survived, clinging to piece of wire. Her hand bleed caused of friction.
Takina choose whether what shes going to. Either its present where chisato is hanging on cable and on the verges of death Or the heart where the future of her relies on? Takina sees Chisato burst into tears for the first time while hanging on wire. It's not fear of death but sadness and disappointment.
Takina dumbfounded and pulled her unconsciously where her body moved without the decision of her brain. Pace
set aside her to the safe place.
Takina: Where are you going. The heart!
Takina got her pistol and shot them near the elevator.
Chisato: Takina please stop!
Takina who missed all the bullets. The fact that her accuracy becomes dull because of mixed emotion causes her brain can't function properly and affects the controls and focus all over the body.
Takina: But chisato!
Chisato: Gotcha! Finally, got you now.
Takina feels the breeze and soft body of Chisato. The lips, nose, chest, the arms that crossed around her. Locking her to not move, Chisato hugged her.
Takina: Chisato but you...
Chisato: Please Takina! Stop, please...
Takina losses all her composure and faced her
Chisato: Whoaahhh! Hehehehe. can now see your beautiful face. "Hard to breathe".
Chisato: You finally Calm down well. finally saw your face for the last time.
Takina who got shock of what she's said.
Takina: Chisato what are you talking?
Chisato: Takina...
Takina: Hayyy!?
Chisato: Becareful when you get back to DA okay?
Chisato: I know it must be hard, But sometimes relying o others doesn't makes you feel bad. If you need something. Teach is always there, kurumi, Misuki and our friend in cafe.
Chisato, who's hard to breathe, can't properly talk now.
Takina: I'm getting back to DA because of you right? knowing the time amount you left to live... You still accept this mission and hope this will be your end. Is it for me, to get back to DA?
Chisato: Heh? Hahahaha ohhh don't know what you're talking!
Chisato who even jokes at times like this.
Takina: You always like this, You always prioritize the others before you!
For my own sake, just in order to get me back into DA again.
Chisato: Takina you know Im already contented that have reached this age. The fact that were together, felt happy and cherish all those memories. That's why I priorities all of you, So you must always remember me even I'm gone.
Chisato: I'm thankful that I met you, love you Takina. Bye bye!
She touched her face for the last time and said goodbye Chisato who lost her heartbit, heavily breathing and can't feel the a pulse anymore. And so Takina cried out loud, shouting her name.
In the pitch black corner there suddenly lights appear, It's a cellphone that won't stop ringing.
To be continued...

Media Recommendations #44 - A New Start
Tumblr media
Friday 20/01/23
Contents
Lycoris Recoil
Pokemon Scarlet
Thanks to school holidays it has been a really slow start to my year. Haven't committed to any hobbies that seriously, creating art has been sparse considering the free time I have, and I haven't dug into a whole lot of media. But it's OK to take it at whatever pace. Just do you.
In terms of this blog, this is a project i have no intention of giving up this year, and i apologise anyone who's followed me and is disappointed with the lack of articles. As I sit down to write this article now, I am committing to not worry so much about how good my writing is, and just write. Today I am recommending an anime and a videogame. And for my sake and yours, I will try and probably fail to make these recommendations short.
Lycoris Recoil
A-1 Pictures / Spider Lily
Tumblr media
Flipping through my recommendations on this blog and you'll definitely see I have recurring tastes when it comes to anime. I love a good slice of life, and I'm a fan of flashy action, and some notable faves of mine, namely Spy x Family and Sakamoto Days, blend the two together. Lycoris Recoil is another gem in the same vein.
The series is set in a fictional version of Japan where all crime is closely monitored, prevented and covered up by secret organisations of able bodied youth. One such organisation is the Lycoris, spies and assassins that patrol city streets disguised as highschoolers. We follow Takina Inoue, who, due to a lapse of judgement in the field, has been transferred out of HQ to work alongside Chisato Nishikigi, a somewhat unorthodox agent who's CQC and firearm skills are unparalleled.
Tumblr media
The two girls work in a Café named Lyco Reco as a cover, and when a job comes up, their handler, who is also the Café's manager, sends them into the field. Takina starts her new position with the same cold and calculating attitude that was drilled into her by HQ, but Chisato takes a more positive and hopeful outlook on life.
Tumblr media
Chisato impresses on Takina the importance of caring for everyone in the city, and that goes beyond silencing criminals with a gun. It means helping people across the street, delivering sweets, doing errands, and just making life easier in general. Chisato even extends this kindness to opponents in her operations, making sure nobody dies. Everyone has a life, family, friends, and the right to a happy life, and this begins to change how Takina sees her role as a Lycoris.
Tumblr media
I won't go on any further for fear of spoilers, but Lycoris Recoil is a really good gun and martial arts action anime, but also a sweet slice of life about seeing the beauty in caring for others. If my recommendation has your attention, give it a watch.
Pokemon Scarlet / Violet
The Pokemon Company/Game Freak
Tumblr media
I know I'm very late on the bandwagon here, but I had been putting off getting the newest Pokémon game for a while, and only finished my playthrough a week or so ago. Why that is will colour how I'm approaching this review, so before I proceed:
I am a jaded pokemon fan who has been playing for a long time and has found the series to have lost some of its spark. My distaste of the newer generations is made of mostly petty reasons, and I wholly understand at 27, I am not the target audience anymore.
So what did I think? I think Generation 9 of Pokémon is definitely a turn in the right direction. If you have been living under a rock and don't know what this series is about, here's a brief sell:
You play the role of a Pokémon Trainer, one who collects and battles creatures called Pokémon. It is a turn based RPG, where the party is made of 6 Pokemon you catch or trade and can customise on the fly. The aim of the game is to either catch and catalogue every Pokémon available in the game or make a team strong enough to become a Champion, a true master of battle.
At its core, the game does nothing different, in fact, one of the points I praised about Pokémon Legends Arceus (working on the Pokédex), has regressed. But as Reggie Fils-Aime once said: "The game... is fun."
Tumblr media
What is different at is core is freedom. Pokemon Sword/Shield gave us a taste of the concept and failed, but Pokémon SV (after a brief opening section) gives the player the entire region to explore right at the beginning. And instead of the one main progression of the old games (gym battles), there are instead 3 campaigns to complete, in any order if you are daring enough. 1 is the Pokémon League (the gym challenge), 2 is Team Star, a group of troublemakers who need lessons taught, and 3 is the Titan Pokémon and Herba Mystica, a quest to battle bosses and grow your Ride Pokemon.
Tumblr media
This Ride Pokemon is the other main draw to the game, a Lizard Motorbike Legendary (Koraidon for Scarlet, Miraidon for Violet) who you don't actually get to use in battle until much later, but serves the role of fast transportation. While each of the three questlines can be done whenever, I'd argue the Herba Mystica line is most important because finding these Herbs gives new abilities to your Lizard bike. Swimming, Gliding, Higher Jumps, and climbing on Walls are locked behind these Herbs. I think having to unlock the abilities over time is good, but it means the other campaigns are less important by association.
Tumblr media
The unspoken fourth quest, the Pokédex, is a lot bigger than in past games, but also a lot easier to finish. Like Legends Arceus, all encounterable Pokemon are just walking around, waiting to be walked into. Previously rare Pokémon can be found in large packs on the overworld, and Pokémon who are difficult to evolve can be found in their evolved forms, right alongside their prevolutions. I am undecided whether making the Pokédex more achievable is a good thing or not, but it sure makes it a different experience.
The game is never overly difficult, but challenging enough. You have the option of doing gyms and other challenges in any order, and while you may fight a couple a bit early by accident, level progression never felt too slow and i never needed to stop and grind, a good sign for an RPG. The true ending can not be experienced without the main three campaigns being completed. And for once, the story is good. It is emotional and satisfying to finish.
Tumblr media
So is this the worst Pokemon Generation? Hell no. Is it the best? I don't think so at all. I personally think Pokemon SV were better than Sun/Moon, and Sword/Shield, but it feels disappointing that Legends Arceus was such a highlight for the series for them to just attempt to go back. They did keep a lot of the better parts of Legends Arceus, but it's still not there. I enjoyed my time with Pokemon Scarlet/Violet, and if you like Pokémon games, it is an easy recommend.

((I would love to write how Chisato reacts when she's truly out of her depth due to some bonkers crossovers. Lycoris Recoil is a mostly grounded show so how would she handle going against a magical girl villain? Or encountering a giant robot? I can't imagine her having a full on freakout, but she would still be caught off-guard.))

((Chisato occasionally wonders how Yoshimatsu is doing but she hasn’t asked anyone of his whereabouts. She’s still hurt by what transpired during their final encounter, even if she doesn’t say anything about it. Everything considered, though, ignorance is bliss.))

“And Who Are You?”
“What is a middle schooler doing out this late at night? You’re not one of those punks in need of discipline, are you?” Chisato nonchalantly leaned against the wall and folded her arms as she spoke to the boy. She was heading back to LycoReco after a job but she didn’t mind possibly helping out a lost kid. Even if that would likely get her chewed out by Takina as soon as she stepped in the door!
And if this kid reacted negatively? Punches were much slower than bullets.

Note
A masked soldier in red, bearing the Desolation emblem on his shoulders, pushed Chisato away with his free hand. Three of the armored grunts, the middle one wielding a light machine gun and the others with assault rifles, stood in front of her, blocking her path. "Get outta here, or I'll paint your face with the color of your outfit!"
"Now, now, guys. Surely we can just talk things out... I'd hate for things to get messy."
Chisato smirked as she put a hand against her hip, keeping a close eye on the soldiers and their guns. She could already see weak spots in their armor she could aim for in case these dumbasses decided to open fire, so she wasn't worried in the slightest.
"But... you wouldn't hurt a cute high school girl, would you?"

"Well, it looks like I'm in danger." Chisato chuckled. "I'm sure Takina will bail me out next episode! If they don't do any mind control or any other funky thing with my heart, that is! Regardless, one thing's for sure: physicals suck!"

"I wasn't expecting to live much longer anyway, so having only two months left doesn't really bother me." Chisato seemed as energetic as ever, but was there something else behind that smile?
