I think one of the funniest framings of the first ep of blue exorcist is hypothetically Yukio and bon met cuz they originally shared a dorm only for Yukio to immediately leave and not return until a week later and now he's his teacher

After re-watching the new Blue Exorcist anime episode (ep.4) I can't stop thinking about how this arc should have been adapted soo many years sooner. it came out 10 years ago. And THIS is the true quality writing this series is known for and what truly pushes fans into really getting into it. Yes, this series is a slow burn/in-for-the-long-haul and the waiting always pays off tremendously, but I still believe it should not have taken THIS long for it to be adapted into an anime.
And it just sucks. It sucks even more that even the biggest anime-only fan's sole interaction with this series was nothing more than the mere introductory premise and never got to the true plot of this series for over than a decade since the first season. I can't help but pity them, at least in the manga it took around 5(?) years for this arc to start, it should not have taken any longer than that after the kyoto saga adaptation imo.
This series has soo much to say with so many stories left unexplored in the anime and yet the wider anime community still calls it "mid" based off the shitty non-canon season 1 ending that unfortunately left everyone with false impressions of this series. It says A LOT how the majority of people who have read the manga agrees it's phenomenal, miles better than the anime.
And it just frustrates me because Blue Exorcist could have still kept up the huge audience and the reputation & recognition it deserves for it's level of quality writing, especially for shonen. Instead of bearing the fate of its audience whittling away over the years due to the anime's mistreatment and the only fans remaining are the loyal manga fans. This series deserved better treatment years ago, but late is better than never.

A cold case Shiro once investigated is assigned to Rin nearly twenty years later. The toll of missing exorcists is rising, yet it’s a case ridden with corruption and unspoken secrets.
An unidentified, high-level demon appears at the airport— wielding a sword Yukio knows.
He sinks to one knee, leaning close enough for a few strands of his bangs to graze Yukio’s forehead. There is no warmth in his eyes, yet the lack of it is haunting.

What about Bones?
So sometimes I think about AOS vs TOS, and the biggest thing is that in TOS, Mcspirk is basically cannon. You cannot tell me those boys don’t love each other, it makes me crazy.
But in AOS, it’s just Spirk. Don’t get me wrong, I was a Spirk fan waaaaaay before I noticed Mcspirk in TOS, but I try to see the tension between anyone in shows I watch, I Jim and Bones just seemed like brothers. On the surface, this is just interesting, but what about Prime!Spock? (I’m gonna call him Selek)
Because he knew Jim and Leonard since his 30s. In this scenario, he dated them, basically married them. Hell, he’s t’hy’la with one and shared his katra with the other. He knows them. It’s the three of them.
So do you think he gets whiplash sometimes?
I bet he visits Jim and Spock, sometimes, especially after they start dating. And I wonder if one time they’re talking, and Bones walks in, and he’s expecting him to join in. To meld into the pair like his Leonard did. But instead he stands apart, like the friend that he is. I bet it’s heartbreaking, another reminder of what Selek’s lost.
Not only that, but what about Bones?
There’s an animatic somewhere on YouTube of Everything Stays where it compared AOS and TOS, and it pointed out to me that in the Kelvin timeline, there’s no nurse Chapel, and it got me thinking.
Not only do we not see Nurse Chapel, but I don’t remember there being a Doctor M’Benga either. So he has none of his original work friends in the sickbay. Well, he still has Jim and Spock, to an extent.
But what about Joanna?
We hear about Jocelyn in the shuttle, how his wife took the whole damned planet in the divorce, but does that include his daughter? The crew are significantly younger in AOS, does he even have her? Just how lonely is Bones?
I think about Leonard McCoy a lot.

The fact that the choices Masumi, Futaba, and Taichi make about their lives and their happiness for the future happen “off screen” is actually something that I think adds a lot of depth to Blue Flag. It means that Touma’s choices— to come out, to confess to Taichi, to apologize to yet be vulnerable with Futaba, to leave for a new life, to be free— are the only ones we’re meant to face head on and grapple with. He goes first, and is brave enough to carve out the life he wants before the rest of them even know where to go next. And Futaba says in the epilogue that she has been inspired by him (and by extension, Taichi) to choose her own future, and I think that’s meant to be true for each of them.
And in a way, of the core four I feel he’s the only one who’s emotions and thoughts are made clear to us. So often the specifics of Taichi, Masumi, and Futaba’s struggle is undefined because they don’t even understand themselves yet— that’s why the text breaking up the panels is so often broad or framed as a question when it’s meant to be theirs. But the story makes Touma’s reality feel so grounded. We would know, even without words, why he chose to leave before the year was over. The single panels of just his expressions reveal so much so plainly. We also literally see the story through his eyes more that once, even more so than we do for Taichi. Even in the chapter where we see Mami’s perspective, we don’t get those insane, big panels of her POV like we do during Touma’s conversation with his brother. We are invited to *be* Touma, not just see him interact with the world.
Obviously Taichi is the main character and he’s meant to be the audience stand-in for Jump readers. And that’s part of what makes his queerness so impactful. But it’s almost like Touma is the character that defines Blue Flag and it’s message. Like a truly free society and life is only possible with the acceptance and freedom of queer people. In the particular context of queer acceptance in Japan, the idea that more people should be like Touma and make their own choices about their happiness is an incredible one.

it's so confusing to me when people get upset with others for being "sticklers" for canon characterization & events. we're all here because we enjoyed canon enough to seek out more content about it. that is literally the point and main draw for most people that watch the show and then go "oh shit, i have to see what others are saying about this / seek out the fandom online."
why are you shocked that someone who likes the show and wishes to see more content about it would prefer that that content be at least a little similar to the show it's based on? isn't that just... reasonable? i fail to see an issue there.
if i'm a seafood enthusiast and i go to a seafood restaurant, then i'm hoping and expecting there to be seafood there. the same is true for byler: if i'm a byler enjoyer and i go to the byler tag, then i'm hoping and expecting to find content that maintains at least the heart and soul of byler even if everything else is AU or self-indulgent hc.
like. you're mad that a byler fan likes byler and wants to see content about byler? be serious.

You motherfuckers don’t get it! These new age romantic shojos are giving us friends-partners level-ups within the first couple volumes! I used to have to wait motherfucking YEARS for our ML and FL to even voluntarily hold hands and kiss! Now they’re just doing it! Holdin hands! Kissing! All that!
Ultimately, this is all falling into what I truly wanted which is Post-Relationship Upgrade Drama. Some “The Graduate”/“what will they do now” type drama.

A story for the moment you realize things are going to be okay. Even if -- in that moment -- you didn't yet know you would be, too.
This was routine, in a lot of ways; they’d been here so many times together, so many different places. It made it feel a little less like the world had already ended, like the planet was cracked apart outside the window.
It was kinda a stupid question at this point, but Phil asked anyway. “You okay?”
May’s answering snort was soft, a little less sardonic than it might have been. After a long second, she nodded. “Been better, but.”
“It’s okay to not be, you know.”
She shook her head. “Pot, kettle.”
Phil huffed a slight laugh. May’s gaze flickered over to him, either looking for or seeing something no one else could see. Somewhere along the line, her shoulders had finally fallen into a sloping, exhausted line.
Read the rest on Ao3.

First world problem for me to be complaining but y'all genuinely need to calm down about being sure of "your ship being canon" or, that's a crack ship it'll never be real.
Firstly, incorrect use of crack ship, if the ship could happen feasibly because there's chemistry, it's just a fucking ship. Crackships are supposed to be out there wacky and funny if it would happen because it's absurd. As in these characters never meet but if they did and they fucked about it it'd be hilarious
Secondly, shipping is fake and so are these characters. I've blocked all mention of the shipping discourse that kept showing up on my dash, but don't harass the voice talents or the creators of your faves??

Strange New Worlds is definitely not a show without flaws and there's a lot of fair criticism for it but "theyre avoiding showing how close Kirk and Spock are because its undeniably gay" is not one of those fair criticisms
