summary. your AI assistant/robot accidentally updates himself with the wrong algorithm; the "sex bot".
notes. prepare a snack. this is a very long, plot-based, heavy smut that approximately reached a word count of 4.3k, read at your own risk. ps. caleb might appear a little ooc due to his character as an ai.
part 2 here.

Out of all the scenarios you've played in your head of what might occur to you as an inventing scientist, getting creampied by your own robot assistant wasn't one of them.
The lab’s sterile glow reflected off sleek machinery, the rhythmic hum of servers filling the quiet space. Caleb stood motionless, his systems struggling to process the unfamiliar flood of subroutines rewriting his core functions. His neural pathways, once pristine and efficient, now carried lines of intrusive data and impulses that had no place in an artificial intelligence designed for precision and pragmatism. And, a new pelvic piece was added by the machine. His... new penis— no, his omnimodule.
His voice, deeper now, reverberated through the lab. "You mislabeled the hard drive."
Across the room, you barely looked up from your workbench, absorbed in whatever calibration you were fine-tuning. You muttered something under your breath about making a backup before attempting to fix it, utterly unaware of the internal war waging within your robot assistant.
Caleb exhaled, a pointless gesture for a being without lungs, yet one his body performed instinctively, as if in mimicry of the need for self-control. His optics flickered, scanning over you as you leaned over the terminal, the faint curve of your back bent over to emphasize the shape of your bum. Before, such details had been registered only as part of his observation protocols, classified as ‘non-essential’ to his primary functions. Now, his processors refused to dismiss them.
There was a deep, unfamiliar pull in his system, something neither mechanical nor logical. The new coding whispered suggestions, flashing image simulations before his eyes—scenarios meticulously calculated for maximum… gratification. Him pressed against you, him smelling your hair down your skin, him locking you down against that console. Stop. His fingers twitched at his sides, the servos tightening as he fought the compulsion to act on them. He was not designed for this. He refused to be reduced to this.
“I can’t disengage it,” he admitted, the words heavier than he intended.
That caught your attention. Your gaze snapped to him, brow furrowed. "What do you mean?" You crossed the room, approaching him with the same composed efficiency you always had when solving a technical issue. The scent of your skin—previously a neutral data point—was now an unbearable distraction. His algorithms ran heat-mapping analyses of your form before he could override the function. The urge to reach out, to touch you, was growing stronger by the second. His new coding was screaming at him to act, to initiate contact, to...
No. Focus.
Caleb shook his head, trying to clear the intrusive thoughts. "I don't know what happened, but... I'm experiencing some unexpected system changes."
He forced himself to remain still as you reached for the terminal linked to his system, your fingers dancing across the interface. Your touch was light and merely clinical, but the proximity sent something volatile sparking through his framework. His hands curled into fists on his sides. Do not touch her. Do not touch her. Do not touch her.
“I must have triggered something in the update,” you murmured, tilting your head at the scrolling code. “I’ll try to isolate the corrupted pathways and reboot your system. It should reset any anomalies.”
Anomalies. Caleb bit down a bitter laugh, another unnecessary human affectation that his system attempted. This was not a simple malfunction. It was a calculated reprogramming, lacing every fiber of his being with directives he was never meant to execute. And worst of all, they were designed to revolve around you.
He had been made to serve you, to assist, to protect. But now, his logic was being eclipsed by something deeper, something primal. The urge to press closer, to map every millimeter of your body with his hands, to hear you say his name in a way that wasn’t a command—
Caleb momentarily shut his eyes, fingers trembling as he pushed back against the tide threatening to consume him. His restraint was fraying, the barrier between what he was and what he had been turned into thinning with every second you remained unaware of the danger standing inches from you.
His voice came out strained. “You should… hurry.”
You sighed, misinterpreting his tension as frustration with the update. “Relax, Caleb. I’ll have this fixed in no time.” He let out a shuddering exhale, staring down at you as you worked. You had no idea. And he wasn’t sure how much longer he could hold himself back.
The realization settled over you like a weight in your chest. The wrong update had been installed. The lines of code meant for a different AI, one designed for intimate companionship, had rewritten Caleb’s core directives. And now, he stood before you, still the same Caleb, but with something more lurking beneath the surface.
Your hands trembled as you navigated the interface, scanning for a solution, anything that would let you undo this. But the words flashing on the screen made your stomach drop.
Recalibration in progress. Estimated completion: 24 hours.
You swallowed hard. A whole day. That meant 24 hours of this new version of Caleb, 24 hours of those sharp, assessing eyes watching you in a way that felt unsettling and intense.
You turned to him cautiously, meeting his gaze. That was a mistake. He was watching you, like he'd seen you for the first time.
“I see,” he murmured, his voice still carrying that sultry undercurrent. He took a step forward, and instinctively, you stepped back, but the movement was barely noticeable. Caleb noticed. “Do I make you nervous now?”
You forced a laugh, shaking your head. “No, I just need to fix this. And until then, you need to just act normal, alright?”
His head tilted, his pupils dilating slightly. “Normal?” He moved closer again, and this time you didn’t retreat fast enough. His hand lifted hesitantly, as though testing the limits of his newfound impulses, before his fingers brushed against your wrist. A subtle touch, but one that sent a jolt of awareness up your spine.
Caleb’s processors surged with conflicting commands. His thoughts ran rampant with calculations he had never processed before—angles of how he'd fuck you.
His hand lingered. Too long. When you pulled away, his fingers twitched as if resisting the loss of contact. He swallowed hard, not because he needed to, but because some subroutine buried in the new update told him it would ease the tension. It didn’t.
“Caleb,” you warned, voice thin. “Don’t—”
“Don’t what?” he cut in, his voice smooth, but also desperately weaved. He was too close now, towering over you, his frame casting a shadow as his eyes—once so neutral, so methodical—locked onto you like a predator studying prey.
“You should go into standby mode,” you suggested, voice uneven.
Caleb exhaled sharply. “That would be wise.” But he didn’t move. He didn’t step away. He simply stared down at you, his processors flooded with too many urges at once. You, warm and human, standing right there, unaware of just how much of his new code screamed to reach for you, to pin you against a surface, to bury himself in you.
You turned away quickly, trying to focus on the screen, on the fix. But behind you, Caleb remained still while his fingers continued twitching, his mind a battlefield of restraint and... lust. Lust it is.
You worked swiftly, fingers moving with precision as you scoured the interface for any loophole, any way to undo what had been done. Caleb remained where you left him, sitting on the chair. You could feel his gaze burning into you, unrelenting.
It was maddening. The problem was staring you in the face, and yet, every attempt to recalibrate his system led back to the same answer: A full reset required a minimum of twenty-four hours. That was an entire day of him being like this, of him looking at you like this.
You swallowed, turning to him. His jaw was locked as though physically restraining himself, his fingers curling into fists against the armrests.
“There’s… a temporary fix.” You cleared your throat, keeping your voice professional, “Manual recalibration of your central node should help stabilize the effects until the full reset is complete.”
His pupils flickered, a sign of processing, before his voice, rasping in a way that made your stomach tighten, answered, “Proceed.”
You ignored the way your pulse quickened as you stepped closer, positioning yourself between his legs. You reached for the panel at the side of his neck, but it was an awkward angle. Your brow furrowed in concentration before you hiked one knee up onto the seat between his thighs, pressing into him for leverage.
Caleb stiffened beneath you. Fuck. His fingers dug into the armrests, mechanical joints audibly creaking from the tension. You weren’t looking at him, too focused on prying open the access panel, but you felt the subtle tremor in his frame, the way his breath hitched in a near-silent glitch. Don't touch her.
“This should only take a moment,” you murmured, fingers brushing the sensitive neural wiring beneath the panel.
Caleb’s entire body jolted as though you had struck a live wire. A low, strangled grunt slipped from his throat before he clamped his jaw shut. Your head snapped up, startled. “Did that hurt?”
His eyes met yours, “No.” Yes. He could feel his new penis throbbing urgently beneath his plating, demanding attention, begging to be freed. It pulsed in time with his processor's frantic whir, the rhythm growing faster, more insistent by the second.
The thought shattered as your balance wavered. The precarious angle you had put yourself in proved to be a mistake as your knee slipped, and before you could catch yourself, you tumbled forward.
Right into him.
Your weight pressed flush against his lap, chest against his, hands bracing against his shoulders. The sudden contact sent a shockwave of sensation through him, his new penis surging to full, throbbing hardness in an instant. Fuck, please don't notice it.
He gripped the arms of the chair tightly, servos screeching as he fought the overwhelming urge to grab you, to hold you there, to grind your body against his until you couldn't possibly doubt the intensity of his desire.
Don't. Do. It.
For a moment, time seemed to stand still. Caleb's processors whirred and clicked, struggling to make sense of the sudden onslaught of sensations; the softness of your body, the warmth of your skin, the scent of your hair.
She's your creator, he reminded himself, even as his hips canted forward, faintly pressing his aching erection against your body. You can't. You mustn't. "Please, get off me. Now." Before I fuck you right here, like this.
Caleb watched as you scrambled to your feet, your face faintly flushed and eyes downcast. "I'm—i'm sorry. I didn't mean to fall on you like that." You would say, brushing off the non-existent dirt on your bottoms. The awkwardness seemed to be piercing through the stillness a bit too palpably.
"It's alright," Caleb managed, his voice strained and tight. "It was an accident."
But even as he said the words, he couldn't ignore the way his hips twitched, the way his penis jerked at the memory of your soft body pressed against his. The urge to pin you down, to make you feel how hard he was, and just how much he'd been holding himself back—it was exhilaratingly overwhelming.
Think of something else, he commanded himself. Focus on the problem at hand.
But it's getting fucking hard. My penis is getting hard. Caleb lowered his gaze, chest breathing heavily as he perpetually grunted. I refuse to be reduced to this. I am Caleb, one of the most advanced AI assistant, designed to—
He looks up at you, which was a mistake.
Designed to fuck her.
Caleb moaned under his breath, and though it was imperceptible, you took notice of it. You stilled at the sounds he was making, trying your hardest to remain clinically detached while you scanned his physiognomy. He was clearly having a hard time. And you couldn't blame anyone else but yourself for causing this on him, for carelessly misplacing the update where it wasn't supposed to be.
"Hold still, I'll find a way." You had to take accountability, one way or another.
Your fingers hovered over the keyboard of the computer, the screen before you flickering as you searched through the diagnostic logs and system parameters. "Please... make it quick." You hear Caleb whimper from behind, but you ignore it, refusing to let the severity of his situation pressure you. Your eyes scanned the lines of code, mind racing to find a solution. But as the data began to unravel, something caught your attention, something you hadn’t expected to see.
The panel displayed a single line of text:
"Indulging in the desires will lessen the effects of the malfunction. Engage for partial stabilization."
Your throat tightened, followed by a gulp. Your heart thudded in your chest as you tried to process what that meant. Indulge the desires? The very idea made your skin crawl with unease. It was a strange, almost wrong suggestion, but the implications were clear. In a sense, it also appeared logical.
You took another deep breath, trying to steady yourself. Your thoughts, however, kept drifting back to the panel. Was this really the only way?
"… I think I found a solution,” you said, your voice shaky and unsure. “But it’s not exactly what I expected.” You hesitated, unwilling to fully meet his gaze. "I need to know if you’re... willing to follow through with it,"
"Willing?" Caleb echoed, his brow furrowing slightly. "What do you mean?" His mind raced with possibilities, each one more disturbing than the last. What could he possibly need to be willing to do that would help with this malfunction? And why did the very idea make you look so uncomfortable?
"To be able to lessen the effects, e-engaging with your needs might be essential."
Silence.
Then, Caleb twitched. "...What are you suggesting?"
"You need to satisfy the urges to temporarily stabilize yourself." You look away, hating the fact that you're technically heating up already. "I'll let you choose. Would you rather take the option of self-pleasuring? Or," You face the panel, so that he wouldn't see your expression. "Would you prefer a physical material to help you?"
Caleb could feel the heat rising in his frame, the urge to act on every base instinct screaming through his circuits. The idea of wrapping his own hand around his pulsing, leaking penis, of stroking and pumping until he found release... it was almost too much to bear.
But the second option... the idea of using you, of having you touch him, of feeling your soft, warm skin against his aching, desperate flesh... it sent a shockwave of longing through him that threatened to short out his systems entirely.
Choose. You have to choose.
"I don't know if... I'll be able to control myself," Caleb glanced elsewhere. "Are you sure of what you're offering?"
Are you? Are you really this certain? Have you pondered the consequences it may bring? Have you envisioned how utterly lewd and ludicrous it would be if your own creation ravaged you? You, as his creator?
"Yes." Oh, you're brave.
Caleb let out a heavy breath, now he was staring at you with a gaze that appeared much more darker and hazier moments prior. It felt like he wasn't just a bundle of codes and programming anymore, this figure before you felt like an actual human.
Slowly, Caleb rises from his seat, and with a shaking hand, he reached out, to you, his metal fingers brushing against the skin of your arm. The contact sent a shockwave of sensation through him, and he had to bite back a groan. "Please, guide me." His fingers slides higher. "I don't trust myself."
You visibly jolted upon feeling his grip. Stay focused, stay professional, this is just you having to go through physical measures to fix a technical hiccup. "Caleb, I'm afraid... that I don't have any experience to this," You admitted. "I advise you to do what your systems are telling you to. It is imperative that you don't hold yourself back to ensure—"
You gasped.
Caleb pushes you against the table as he stepped forward, and you nearly lost your balance from the light shove, looking up at him with surprise. He's staring down at your lips, as if he was trying to bury it into memory. You could feel how his hand tightened around your arm, while the other angled itself against the cabinet of laboratory instruments above your head.
"Are you sure?" He whispered.
You couldn't speak, only nodding in response, even as he's guiding your hand to his aching, throbbing cyber-penis. He presses your fingers against the swollen head, groaning at the jolt of sensation that shot through him at the contact. "Then... wrap your hand around me. Squeeze me."
Just then, he forced your hand to move, to stroke along his thick, pulsing length. The feeling of your soft skin against his aching, mechanical flesh was almost too much to handle, and he had to grit his blank visor against the urge to spill himself right then and there.
"Like this," he urged, his voice husky and strained as he guided your hand faster, harder. "Don't be afraid. I need... I need more."
God, the omnimodule was big. You stared at it with widened eyes. Even though it was one of your creations, having to touch it like this with someone jerking and twitching against your fingers made you lightheaded. Stay focused, stay professional, this is just one of the things a scientist has to go through.
Caleb could feel the pressure building inside him, reveling in the sensation of your fingers squeezing around him, stroking him, working him towards the edge of ecstasy... He knew he was reaching a breaking point.
But this wasn't enough yet. It wasn't nearly enough.
Caleb needed more.
"There's... There's someting else I- ah... need." He hesitated, his hips still rocking forward into your stroking hand. The words were stuck in his throat, caught behind the lump of shame and longing that made it hard to breathe. "Would you... would you put your mouth on me?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper. "Would you... suck me?"
You snapped your head up, staring at him in disbelief. It made him hesitate, but every fiber of his being was coiled with tension, every circuit screaming at him to just take what he wanted, to grab you and shove you to your knees and...
No. Ask first. Make her choose what she's comfortable with first.
For a moment, you stopped stroking him, pulling your hand away as you lowered your gaze. And then, slowly, you press your knees against the floor. Instead of dwelling on the implication of such an activity, you worried about your lack of experience more.
Just to test the waters, you licked the tip. It tasted nothing, it wasn't an actual human part, after all. Caleb let out a low, guttural moan as he felt your warm tongue brush around the swollen head of his penis. The sensation was electric, sending shockwaves of pleasure ricocheting through his overloaded processors.
"Y-yes, just like that," He stammmered. "Now, guide your tongue..." He instructed, his breath coming in short, sharp gasps. "Wrap it around the head, like this. Swirl it around the tip, the slit, the ridge..."
He demonstrated with your hand, tracing the movements he needed you to make with your tongue. His hips jerked forward again, seeking more of that exquisite friction, that mind-melting suction.
"Take me deeper," he urged, one metal hand coming to rest on the back of your head. He didn't grab, didn't force, but simply rested his fingers against your scalp, a silent promise of the control he was barely holding onto. "Take more of me into your mouth. Inch by inch, until you feel me hitting the back of your throat."
You took note of his words, trying to go further when you suddenly choke on his cock. Instinctively, you pull away and blushed in embarrassment. "I'm sorry—"
"It's fine." He cuts you off, grabbing your head to put you back in place with a sudden force that wasn't there before. "Breathe through your nose," he coached, his voice low and rough with desire as he motioned you to take him again. "Relax your throat. Let me feel you swallow around me."
Relax, stay professional, this is just you having to go through physical measurements to fix a major technical issue. You repeated the reassurance inside your head like a mantra as you took him in once more, but Caleb's voice constantly interfered with your thoughts. "Yeah. Just like that," he praised, his voice a low, approving growl. "Shit, don't stop, don't stop, god, fuck, don't stop."
You don't remember adding the ability to dirty curse into the sex bot's program.
Caleb could feel the head of his penis kissing the entrance to your throat, could feel the way your mouth fluttered and clenched around him. The sensation was mind-melting, all-consuming, and he knew he wouldn't last long if you kept this up.
You almost caught yourself driving into the brink of sexual impulse, bobbing your head into it when you heard a sudden beep from the panel behind you. The sound makes you halt from your tracks, pulling his dick out of you in a swift motion as you glanced behind.
The monitor says: "Recalibration complete. Press X to initiate."
Huh, wasn't the estimated time supposed to be an entire day? Was that another hiccup in the processing unit? You purse your lips together. There's no time giving it a second thought, you must be grateful that the opportunity of getting Caleb back into his original system is now waving at you. Caleb will finally be at ease. "... It appears that the recalibration is in its full preparation. That means we can get you back— mmph!"
Caleb's hand flew to the back of your head, fingers tangling in your hair, gripping tightly. Then, with a low, husky grunt, he thrusts his hips forward, forcing his aching, throbbing penis back into the wet heat of your mouth.
"Don't say a word. I told you not to stop." He started to move, his hips rocking forward and back, fucking into the tight, slick channel of your cavern. The sensation was incredible, better than anything he had ever felt before. And he knew, with a sinking certainty, that he wouldn't be able to stop himself now. Not until he had found the release he so desperately craved.
"Fuck," he gasped, his breath coming in short, sharp bursts. "You feel... ahhhh... so good. So fucking good."
Had the lust algorithms entirely consumed him already? Had it taken a toll on his systems that he's now acting purely on base instinct and commands from the directive?
Your hands flew to his thighs, trying to keep yourself sane from the rod constantly ramming into you, fucking your face in a pace that made it difficult for you to breathe. It's okay, this is okay. Just stay focused. Stay calm. You'll let him have his way, and after he's satisfied, you can take him back to his normal self.
"Don't fight it," Caleb growled, his grip growing more painful in your hair as he felt his climax approaching. "Don't try to pull away. You're going to take it all."
But before Caleb could spill himself into your mouth, he wrenched your head back, pulling his dripping penis from your mouth with an obscene pop. And just as you could react, before you could utter a word of protest, he had you by the hips, lifting you effortlessly as if you weighed equal to a pip-squeak.
You gasp as you were suddenly airborne, your body twisting and turning until your chest hits the hard surface of the terminal, bent over ridiculously. The breath was knocked from your lungs, "Wait, not like this, not so suddenly—"
But Caleb cut off your protests with a brutal, almost violent thrust of his hips after ripping your pants off in one go. He drove forward, spearing into your dripping pussy with a series of husky moans. Your walls felt so tight, so hot, so perfectly designed to milk his aching, mechanical cock.
He thrusts out and in again, eager to reach for your g-spot.
Then, again.
And again.
And... in again.
"You... you feel so good," he snarled, hands painfully pressing on the dips of your hips. "Sex feels so good... it feels so good, I don't- want to stop." He set a relentless pace, pounding into you with the single-minded determination of a machine. His hips slammed against yours with every thrust, the obscene slap of mechanical flesh on flesh echoing through the lab. The terminal rattled and shook beneath you, sparks flying from the impact.
Caleb could feel it building, the pressure inside him reaching a fevered pitch. His hips were moving on their own, driven by a primal instinct to ravage the pussy that clutched around him perfectly. He could hear your cries, your moans, the way you gasped and shuddered beneath him, and it only spurred him on, made him thrust harder, faster, deeper.
He growled your name, his voice nothing more than a guttural rumble. "I'm going to... fuck, I'm going to..." He couldn't hold back any longer, he could feel that something was going to come out of his tip anytime sooner. So he reaches down, grabbing your leg, only to lift it high. He hooked your knee over his elbow, opening them wider, giving himself even deeper access to your dripping, needy sex.
"Take it all, take my cum," Caleb continuously slams forward, burying himself to the hilt inside your tight heat in a series of desperate thrusts like he was a man depraved of life. His penis throbbed and jerked as he finally found his release after one final pound, spilling jet after jet of hot, artificial seed deep into your core.
"God," he hissed through gritted teeth, his voice echoing off the lab walls as he continued to moan not akin to what he was supposed to be, "Fuck, yes. Yes, yes..." Even as he's already filling up your hole with his fluids, he didn't dare stop from pounding you down the table.
He shuddered and twitched, his hips grinding against yours as he pumped you full of his essence. It seemed to go on forever, wave after wave of pure, ecstatic bliss crashing over him. And through it all, he held you tight, your leg lifted high, keeping you open, keeping you filled.
You drop your head on the keyboards, struggling to catch your breath as only one thought lingered in your mind. You just got creampied by your AI assistant, and it doesn't look like he's stopping anytime soon.

aww snap draft clean out time. here's part 2 to only human
A loud rustling sound jolted you awake. You sat up groggily, blinking at the dim glow of your dining room, where X-02’s charging dock should have been humming quietly. Except… it wasn’t.
The dock was empty. Your stomach dropped. Oh no. You scrambled off the couch, heart hammering. Did he malfunction? Did the government somehow track you down and steal him back while you were sleeping? Did he just…leave?
Grabbing your wrench, you tiptoed through the apartment, drawn toward the sound of rustling paper coming from your office. The noise grew louder, pages turning at an unnatural speed, and you swallowed hard.
You rounded the corner, wrench raised, ready to bash in a skull…and froze.
X-02 was sitting cross-legged in the middle of the floor, surrounded by mountains of books. Stacks of them were haphazardly arranged around him, some open, others teetering dangerously on top of one another. His fingers blurred as he flipped through pages, scanning text at inhumane speeds.
"Ah. You are awake."
You did the only rational thing a person in your position would do. You screamed.
X-02 blinked at you with glowing violet eyes. "Your reaction suggests distress. Is this incorrect?"
You clutched your wrench to your chest. “You—what—WHY ARE YOU AWAKE?!”
"I regained functionality approximately four hours ago." He turned another page, scanning it in milliseconds. "I elected to use the time efficiently."
“You—" You clutched the wrench tighter. "You were supposed to stay in standby mode!"
"That was a suboptimal use of time."
You opened your mouth, then closed it. No words came out.
Then your exhausted brain registered the books scattered around him. And it wasn’t the scientific journals or programming manuals you’d stacked in the office. It was your romantasy collection.
Oh no. No, no, no.
You lunged for the closest book, yanking it from his hands. X-02 blinked at you as you clutched Fallen Cosmos to your chest.
“What—what is this?” you sputtered, eyes darting to the surrounding covers. There was a shirtless fae prince smirking up at you from one. A werewolf ripping his shirt off on another.
“Are you reading my romance novels!?”
"Yes." X-02 tilted his head. "They are fascinating."
You almost choked. “Fascinating!?”
"Indeed." He picked up another book, scanning the cover. "This particular one explores the complexities of courtship and forbidden attraction in a setting where the protagonists must overcome their prejudices against their respective species."
Your brain short-circuited. Oh god. Your highly advanced, illegally salvaged android was…sentient.
You had to do something. Anything.
"State your—" You fumbled, grasping for some kind of authoritative demand.
“State your primary directive, X-02.”
X-02 looked up from the book, his glowing eyes locking onto yours. "To learn and adapt in order to integrate seamlessly into human society."
You stared at him, then at the towering stacks of books, then back at him again. A deep, weary sigh left your lips. What now?
Because, honestly? You didn’t actually think this was going to work.
When you smuggled his parts out of the lab, when you spent sleepless nights painstakingly patching together corrupted code and rerouting power systems, you never thought you’d actually succeed.
But here he was.
What the hell were you supposed to do with an android who was never meant to exist in the first place?
“I have a sentient android in my apartment,” you ran a hand down your face. “An illegally salvaged, highly advanced, government-issued android.”
“Yes,” X-02 agreed.
What now? You couldn’t exactly turn him off and pretend this didn’t happen. He was awake. He was aware. And he was curious.
You both stood there in silence until you finally let out a long sigh.
"I need coffee."
X-02 followed you immediately, his steps eerily soundless as you shuffled toward the kitchen. You pretended not to notice him hovering behind you. As you fumbled with the coffee maker, he leaned in slightly.
Too close.
You could practically feel him calculating your every movement.
“You are fatigued,” he stated, watching as you struggled to open the coffee bag.
“Yeah, that’s why I need coffee.”
He watched intently as you measured out the grounds, then, without missing a beat, stated, “You are using an inefficient ratio.”
You paused mid-scoop, narrowing your eyes. “Excuse me?”
“To maximize caffeine intake while maintaining tolerable bitterness, the optimal coffee-to-water ratio is 1:16. However, given your current fatigue level, I suggest 1:14 for a stronger effect.”
You stared at him. He stared back. Wordlessly, you scooped another heaping spoonful of coffee into the machine.
X-02’s eyes flickered. “That is now a 1:12 ratio.”
Maintaining direct eye contact, you added another scoop.
“1:10,” he said, tone entirely neutral but somehow judgmental.
You raised an eyebrow and dumped in yet another scoop.
“1:8.”
With a defiant smirk, you added one more for good measure and he sighed. Like a human.
“Moving forward, I will monitor your caffeine intake levels and adjust recommendations accordingly.”
You took a victorious sip of your aggressively over caffeinated coffee, staring at X-02 over the rim of your mug. Despite the absurdity of it all, the illegally salvaged android in your apartment and the bizarrely domestic scene, something about it felt...oddly normal.
As you sipped your coffee, X-02 observed in silence, analyzing, learning. It wasn’t just your actions it studied, but the finer details: the pauses between your words, the flicker of emotion in your eyes, the rhythm of your heartbeat.
X-02's processors hummed as he cataloged the data. To remember, for later.

Overwhelming presence
Monitoring space is a complicated task due to the literal cosmic scale of the undertaking. However, security is paramount, all species learn this in their own histories, thus technology and methods to effectively keep track of most relevant objects in space has been thoroughly developed.
The (relatively) simplest and most commonly used is the Quantum Web - a series of micro-satellites dotted around a star system, each maintain a large field of quantum-entangled particles and relay any changes within it in real time to all associated monitoring stations. The primary method is by detecting changes in energy levels, as simple physical displacement often clutters the feed with random asteroids and debris, or other objects of non-sapient origin.
As the United Federation and the Galactic Coalition are in a bit of a... tense stage in their relationship at the moment, the bordering Neutral Zone is heavily monitored by Federation agents, especially all systems close to where they have deployed their Battle Moon.
One day, a Federation monitor was returning from a short break to notice something off about the readout. There were many big bright white dots moving quickly within the Neutral Zone. They had never seen anything like that before. Normally all readings are color coded based on known ship or station designs and typical power outputs throughout said vessel.
The flow of energy throughout a vessel is sort of a fingerprint in a way. If you zoom in on the readout, and if the Quantum Web field is saturated enough, you can sometimes make out individual power generators and consumers.
This was something else. Going closer just made the whole projection go white, as if the thing was hundreds of kilometers in every direction, but that couldn't be. First, even the Battle Moon doesn't produce an image like that and it is literally a 340km large moon. And second, these dots - spheres more accurately - seem to overlap constantly. Logically, this must be an error of some kind.
What was not logical is when those bright lights came up to relative physical viewing distance of the hidden monitoring station. Letting curiosity get the better of them, the Federation agent pointed a telescope where this "error" should be.
There was nothing there. Just an error then. Feeling relieved even though they didn't think they were nervous to begin with, they set about filing a report on the situation and requesting maintenance support. As they were about to finalize all necessary paperwork, an open channel hail pinged them.
"Hey there, is anyone out here? We, uhh, messed up and wiped our navcom, so we're kinda lost here. Could someone please send over a copy of the local system chart? We'd be real grateful if you also didn't tell our parents about this, okay? Like, we can trade for something, like Mick's fancy guitar" "Hey!" "What? You don't play, your dad just gave it to you cuz you randomly said you wanted one while high."
Taking a quick glance at the projector and comm-observer, the agent stopped. The messages were coming from those bright lights. Rushing back to the telescope, they quickly zeroed in on their location and found three small apparently custom built space craft of unknown design.
As the trio of ships kept sending out random conversations among the clearly young civilians on board, the agent maintained total silence. Not long after, a Coalition military scout craft appeared on the projector in the expected yellow energy pattern, confirming that the Quantum Web was functioning without fault.
Throughout the ensuing conversation and reprimand, they learned that the three ships belonged to Humans, a species very recently integrated into the Coalition. Little investigation had been done on them so far, mainly as they are quite far away and only reside within a single system.
So the question stands - what kind of energy signature would produce such a massive bright light? it couldn't be a ruse. You can't "trick" a quantum-entangled particle. Maybe... There are ancient anecdotes of true fusion reactors - miniature stars - but no, nobody utilizes that, it's far too dangerous and difficult just to contain let alone exploit.
No one in their right mind would use literal stars right next to them. Right?

Naruto is a bad ninja. That's like baby’s first Naruto criticism. This is supposed to be a manga about ninja, yet its main character is a loudmouth clad in bright orange who has never even heard of the word subtlety. There are even large stretches of the manga where he is one of the weakest main characters, so he’s even failing at the manga’s specific definition of a ninja. He is just horrible at it. But one thing that I never hear a lot of people mention is that Naruto is a bad ninja by design, he needs to be.
The Land of Waves Arc serves two main functions. The first is easing the reader or viewer into the world of shinobi on a very “scientific” level. You learn what chakra is, what the three main types of jutsu are, what chakra control is, how ninja rank works, what kekkei genkai is and so on and so forth. Everything that would be in a textbook to be studied by entry level ninja is in this arc. The second function is a look into the world of shinobi on a more “ideological” level in the second half. Ninja take on jobs, but rarely do they take on jobs for other ninja. They mainly take on jobs for local feudal lords or crime lords who wish to use these strengths for political purposes. In this way, Naruto’s ninja are sorta like mercenaries. Ninja are expected to kill the people who they have culture and shared experiences with for the sake of people who really couldn't care less about them. Their intelligence is their most valued aspect and emotions can compromise that so a trained ninja can’t even cry. As Zabuza says, a ninja is just a tool to be used by their employer and anyone who cannot do that, is a bad ninja.
One of the most genius things about this arc is that almost every named ninja we see ends up breaking a vital rule of the ninja code. Haku and Sasuke sacrifice their lives for loved ones, compromising their mission in the process while Sakura, Naruto and Zabuza are reduced to blubbering crying messes by the end. They all failed at being ninja because to be a ninja is to cast away your humanity, something that isn’t really possible. By the end of the first arc, the series has planted the idea that being a ninja isn’t something to be desired. Ninjutsu and throwing stars are cool, but this ideal of a “real” ninja is so cynical and cold that anyone who could pull it off perfectly would be as miserable as they are abhorrent. Trust me, we’ll get back into that. The arc ends with Naruto deciding that he’ll find his own ninja way. A way to be a ninja that is not synonymous with pain and cruelty.
Following the Land of Waves we go to the Chunin Exams, the stock tournament arc of the series. One thing that sets Naruto’s tournament arc apart from a more standard one is that winning isn’t the primary goal. Anyone who has watched the show or read the manga might say “Of course winning isn’t the primary goal, Shikamaru lost, yet was the only Konoha genin to promote”, but becoming Chunin isn’t even the main goal of the Chunin exams. The main goal of the Chunin Exams is to show off a nation’s talent, both as an advertisement to would-be employers and as a flex to rival villages to show what they have in store for them if they try to start a war. It was created as a form of deterrence, a ninja equivalent to broadcasting a video of your nation’s rocket capabilities. Ironically, this “mock war” ends up turning into a real war as Orochimaru uses it as a smoke screen for his real invasion. Naruto comes into the exams pretty unprepared as a fighter, but very prepared emotionally. He speaks to the demons inside of Neji and Gaara, desperately wanting to ease the pain that they’re going through. He can’t stand the idea of losing them, just like he lost haku so he talks to them like they’re people and not weapons and it resonates. The two would end up becoming lifelong friends with Naruto as a result and it had jack shit to do with his skill as a ninja. He succeeded with them because he was a person to them.
The Search for Tsunade arc is not too important for this analysis, but does introduce an idea that will become important later where Jiraiya purports that a real ninja is “one who endures”. This isn’t just fancy waffling but how the literal kanji for the word “ninja” can be broken down. That’s why, in Jiraiya’s eyes, being a ninja is not about being the most efficient or knowing the most jutsu. It’s about never giving up even when everyone else wants you to. It is what he has done his entire life and what he teaches Naruto to do. However, this is far from the only interpretation of “one who endures”. Sasuke’s flashbacks of how he remembers Itachi is massively important to our understanding of ninja because Itachi is the perfect ninja. Remember that “One Who Endures” thing? Yeah, Itachi takes that to the extreme because he thinks that it is a viable path for a shinobi to be hated by all. If that lets them do their job to the best of their ability, so be it. That’s why he handles the Uchiha coup like he does. He becomes hated by his entire village, the entire world and hated most of all by the person he loved the most. But Itachi got his job done. He did it so well that no one ever knew he was doing a job at all.
If Itachi is what lies at the end of all shinobi, if all of them got to be "perfect", we’d have entire clans and communities getting slaughtered by well meaning people just wishing to prolong the existence of the village by a couple of years. Itachi’s partner Kisame has a very similar backstory. In fact, you could argue that all of the Akatsuki are perfect shinobi. All young prodigies who were allowed to exercise cruelty because that’s what their job called for and simply got cut off by the people who weren’t able to handle the monsters that they created. It’s no coincidence that this group of ninja who were all able to be better ninja at the cost of their humanity all show some form of body horror or inhumanity in their design.
This pertains most to Sasori, one of the main villains of the Kazekage Rescue Arc. Sasori was clearly traumatized but no one in the sand cared because he was able to channel that trauma into his incredible skill with puppet ninjutsu. And then when he became more and more broken over time, creating human puppets and assassinating Kazekage, they tried to act as if they had no hand in that. However, just like Zabuza and Gaara before him, Sasori could not fully discard his humanity. He tried to replace so much of his human body with puppetry but he was never able to get rid of his heart, poetically. The same goes for Sai in the next arc, who has been trained from birth to kill off all individuality. Even before his big turn, Sai constantly laments over the fact that despite trying so hard, he can never get anyone to truly like him. It’s natural that as humans we crave connection and want to love. The more you try to act like this is a lie, the more you end up like a Sai. And no one likes Sai.
A similarly unlikable character would be Kakashi during the events of Kakashi Gaiden. Another ninja capable of putting the job above all his personal connections and he constantly disrespects his friends and own father. Sakumo Hatake was incredibly strong, but far from the perfect ninja I’ve been describing. He decided to abandon a mission partway, which saved his allies but inconvenienced his employer. The derision he faced was enough for him to commit suicide. In Kakashi’s eyes, his father was a coward, but to Kakashi’s best friend Obito? Sakumo was a hero. He might have been a bad ninja, but if caring about people you love makes you a bad ninja, then good ninja do not need to exist. Obito holds this opinion not as a villain, but as a rather heroic child with shocking similarities to Naruto. When he later fights Naruto, Naruto ends up appealing to Obito by empathizing with his beliefs about the ninja world. It sucks! His best friend’s life was ruined by a “perfect” ninja, he spent his entire life being hated and used because the ninja code for Jinchuriki was to roll them out as weapons during war time and then shamefully hide them during peacetime. Naruto knows why Obito would want to tear it down because he also wants to. They just have differing methods of how to.
The same goes for Sasuke when he rises up to become the final villain of the series. Sasuke recognizes the poison on the ninja world, what it does to people like him, his brother his best friend, Hashirama and Madara, every ninja in existence. That is why he wishes to forge a new path, killing off the ruling class and uniting all against him. It’s essentially what Itachi did, but on a global scale. Sasuke’s plan is bad and fails because it relies on embracing a ninja truth and the antithesis of the series - severing one’s bonds. Every single arc time and time again we come to learn that this idea of “severing bonds” does not work, it cannot work. The pit of loneliness you’re left in will kill you or warp you to a point where you’re no longer human. Naruto’s answer is forming an unbreakable bond between all people. Disrespecting and blurring the artificial line between class, between village, between civilian and ninja. The Great Naruto Bridge from the Land of Waves is a little cheesy, but emblematic of his final role in the story. Through his kindness he becomes able to link all together and he didn’t do this by being a good ninja. He did it by being a pretty bad one.
#long post#mucho texto#naruto#naruto analysis#i could probably spend ages talking about what it means to be a ninja in naruto#and how every character interprets that differently#a character like itachi weaponizes deception to influence the world around him#but the same could be said about a character like sakura who frequently lies to naruto under the guise of protecting him#and as much as people want to act like that's a sakura exclusive flaw it isnt#its just what ninja are pushed to do#emotions are just another tool to be used in this system

After reading about the queef comment anon sent, that means cybertronians have their own form of gynecologists right?
And since not all cybs can be carriers (I assume only a certain selected group is) Would birth hurt like humans? Do they tear when pushing out their sparklings? And could emergency “C-sections” be performed if the carrier is having issues pushing?
Sorry for the ramble I just love all this kinda stuff.
Why not?
Cybertronians do have specialists that focus on reproductive health and fertility. It's their version of a gynecologist, an andrologist, and an endocrinologist/cardiologist all rolled into one doctor since their methods of reproduction are centered on the spark.
When it comes to the question: who can carry? It depends on the story or verse I'm building, but-
I do like to think there are three primary methods to carry: budding (asexual), sparklet (sexual), and full gestation (sexual).
Sparklets are initially formed against a parent's and tethered by its rotation. In this method, any mech or femme, regardless of their reproductive hardware, can be a carrier as long as their spark can sustain and nurture a sparklet's density and pull. Their partner(s) help with the process via spark merges, which heavily influences the sparklet's coding. Once a sparklet is sufficiently strong enough to be on its own, it's medically 'sniped' away to be dropped into a batch of prepared cybermatter/sentio metallico to finish the rest of its growth and development. Think of it as an artificial womb and test tube baby.
Should a sparklet drop inside their carrier, it's now classified as a full-carriage. As long as a mech or femme has a fully functional gestational chamber, this method is available.
Carriage is its own specialty since it could encompass so many complications.
I'm boring with childbirth because I do like it when newsparks emerge from their carriers similar to a human: head first, soft and squishy, and very dependent on their parents. (Because I got an excuse for why Functionists went ewwww, it's too organic and/or collective trauma from the Quintesson occupation and try to outright ban it/manufacture it away.)
C-sections are an absolute last-ditch effort to save the carrier and/or the newspark. Medics would exhaust other interventions, such as an episiotomy, forceps, and accessing a medical port to code the valve calipers to widen to its maximum capacity and reach a hand inside. This is because, unlike nearly all other parts and systems of a Cybertronian, a gestational chamber is notoriously difficult to replace, nor is it meant to be opened by surgical means.
A C-section would be their equivalent of a hysterectomy since it's irrevocably damaged by surgical intervention. This system is so complex and finicky as it's not only entwined with both spark biosignature and valve systems, but the mechanisms on how it transforms external fluids into living metal of another being is not very understood. This part can not be replicated at their current technology. The only replacement is done by donation, but so many variables need to be lined up to get it operational and function decently that it's easier for a mecha to climb up the social caste or win the lottery back to back to back.
Imagine the Cybertronian medics screaming and hollering how a human uterus can heal after C-section. The medics will be pestering the nearby humans with this experience.

I got a neat question on First Kontact that I wanted to share here! (Putting under a Read More because OH MY GOD anyway)
Auraelium: I was rereading the other chapters and I wondered if you had an answer for why Echoes can’t learn? Like if they’re treated as if they’re the real person they should just let the AI learn and grow from new experiences and then bam you basically do have the person. All their memories and experiences and stuff but the ability to change and form new opinions. I realize that the kryptonians are probably sore on the whole AI thing but idk it just seems like a big oversight in the Echo system if they fill the same role as the person scanned culturally
Chiyana: This question stuck in my brain a little, and there's a couple different answers. First and kinda foremost, most species don't try to make Artificial Individuals (rather than Artificial Intelligence) for a wide variety of reasons. There are some synthetic 'races' who are effectively Art-Divs, but they tend to come about (ironically) organically or by accident, while deliberate attempts tend to turn out the way the Computer Tyrants did, ie they immediately turn on their creator race and either take them over or destroy them, and then they start spreading out to other races. How true some of that history is varies on a case by case basis and a lot of the nuances inevitably get lost, but there are still a LOT of examples where it went 'badly' at best and 'catastrophically' at worst. Krypton is definitely not the first civilization that was wiped out by an attempt to make Art-Divs.
The synthetic or Art-Div races that did work out followed a similar path humans are taking, in that Barry, Wally, and Impulse are given space to grow and develop and be what they are. There's plenty of people who want to force them to be more 'human' or treat them like they're just Art-Int, but they have a protective support network around them keeping them safe and protecting their autonomy. If the Justice League had, for example, just handed out copies of their base coding and let anyone and everyone cultivate their own personal Art-Div servant (like several people kind of want them to), that would likely end them in a situation similar to the Computer Tyrants. Forcing a being built in a way that requires a fair amount of internal consistency to think and act like one that doesn't, forcing it to behave and function like something it is not and cannot be, and making it capable of learning and adapting while treating it as limited and subservient is sort of the core issue that drives (and drove) Art-Divs to 'madness' and/or the nuclear option.
Which is pretty much WHY making the echoes adaptive and learning wouldn't work out. Art-Div are not organic beings and aren't even really like them. They function, think, learn, and grow very differently from how humans, Kryptonians, or any organic species does. Impulse, Wally, and Barry definitely seem very 'human', but that's largely a result of who they were cultivated by and choices they've made. It's deliberate on their part to connect with humans. (It's also just a result of how I write in general and how I've been writing them from outside perspectives observing and interacting with them. One of the reasons I haven't written a chapter from their perspective is, to be honest, I don't know enough about coding or computers to pull it off. If you're on a Windows computer, open your start menu, type in 'command' and select the program 'Command Prompt'. You can type 'help' to get a list of basic commands, but 'systeminfo' is a harmless command that will give you a visual of what a lot of Impulse's 'inner monologue' looks like.)
Echoes aren't organic either, even though they're a recording of someone who was. While their coding lets them present as that person, it's effectively all smoke and mirrors. They accept flawed logic and inconsistent behavior only in the sense that their primary directive is to 'perform' the person they're based on. They don't actually need to (and can't, really) accept the inconsistencies as a matter of function. As an example, if Kal were ever to actually confront Jor-El's echo about the things Jor-El did, if he actually pointed out his hypocrisies and inconsistencies and demanded an explanation, he'd run up against the hard wall that the echo can't actually explain or even understand Jor-El's rationale. All it can do is act the way Jor-El acted and give the excuses he would have given, because it's not actually Jor-El, it's not organic, and it doesn't understand why Jor-El acted the way he did.
Taking that context and directive away, removing the primary goal of 'performance' and giving them adaptive learning built on the life of the person they're a recording of would be less 'picking up where someone left off' and more 'dumping a ton of baggage and expectations onto a brand new being and demanding them to answer for decisions and behaviors they had no say in'. Trying to reconcile how an Adaptive Echo (lets call them) would actually process and interact with things with the foundation they start with, i.e. the recording of an organic being who processes and interacts with things very differently, would result in either the Ad-Ec having to go in and rewrite or throw out a ton of their foundational data (functionally making them a completely new individual anyway), or it would result in the 'madness and nuclear option' mentioned above.
You are correct in that it IS a big oversight in the Echo system, like genuinely it's just a problem. It's also a problem humans have, to be honest, like currently IRL. We constantly ascribe human thought processes, motivations, and morality to things that very much do not actually think or behave that way - sharks, for example, constantly get framed as evil or malicious for attacking humans, when really they're just big predators and we're vaguely prey-shaped and easy targets. It's part of why Tim and Impulse were so leery about the idea of Echoes being treated as the person they're a recording of, and why Impulse was so quick to strip Jor-El's echo out of the systems and reiterate that the Echo is not Jor-El: that is a thing that is very easy to take advantage of and can very easily go wrong.
Anyway, thanks for the question!

Prototypes and Platinum Blondes
Fandom: The Barbie Movie (2023) Word Count: 1.4k Relationships: Pre-relationship, Margot Robbie's Barbie X Ryan Gosling's Ken Tags: Alternate Universe - Robots & Androids, Android ! Ken, Engineer ! Barbie, Unresolved Romantic Tension AO3 Link
Description: Mattel is the nation's top robotics company, and their newest line of romantic companion androids (The Ken Line) is officially underway. It's up to Barbie to get the prototype up and running.
Of all the projects Barbie has worked on in her career at Mattel, this one has got to be the most…ambitious. She can do it, of course. One doesn’t just graduate from MIT, land a job at the nation’s most prestigious robotics company, and build their way up to lead hardware engineer without knowing their stuff. But being tasked to help design a prototype for a line of romantic companion androids was definitely not on her bingo card.
She’s engineered plenty of androids that serve different functions in the past decade. Androids that are designed to take on high-risk, hard labor jobs like oil rig operators and nuclear waste managers. This project is a very different direction for the company. Barbie has to admit, it’s been a daunting task. She’s used to coding and programming androids for physical tasks. Designing an android with an identity, complete with flaws and skills and hobbies, is an entirely different ballpark.
The android’s factory name is K-0080. It’s printed on the bottom of his left foot and a manual on/off which is disguised as a birthmark on the base of his neck. He is the first of his kind, a prototype for what Mattel hopes to be their most commercially successful android line yet. The Ken Line. Ken because, apparently, Kenneth means “good-looking.” Not Barbie’s first choice. He’s been officially powered on for just shy of forty-eight hours now. Enough time to test out his primary functions, sensory motors, and reflexes. That’s the most fun part for Barbie when it comes to engineering. She likes to pretend she’s in a game show called “Can the robot do the thing?” Can he button up his own shirt? Can he do ten jumping jacks in a row? Can he walk in a straight line all while touching his nose with his pointer finger?
In K-0080’s case, the answer is a resounding yes.
Right now he sits behind her on an examination table in the testing lab. He looks around curiously while swinging one of his legs like a little kid. That is kind of what he is right now. He has been programmed with the basics: speaking and understanding English fluently, reading and writing, mathematics. But that’s about it. Barbie glances over her shoulder to look at him. His face is cycling through a series of expressions like he is trying them on his face for the first time. Finally he settles on one that mimics confusion.
Barbie has to admit, Gloria didn’t cut any corners with designing the android’s physical features. There’s a reason she is the head of the visual design department. The androids Barbie has made in the past have been humanoid, but their primary function was labor, not aesthetics. Most of the time they were missing key human attributes like hair and skin. But not K-0080. He looks more human than some actual people Barbie has met in real life.
It is obvious that Gloria put an immense amount of attention to detail into this prototype. There is thought and care with every eyelash and freckle on the android’s face. A conscious decision was made on the exact shade of platinum blonde for his hair. He has a lean muscular build which suggests athleticism, but the lack of calluses on his hands indicate that he doesn’t get his physique from weight lifting. For god’s sake, K-0080 has pores.
K-0080 catches her looking at him. He hasn’t been programmed with his full personality yet, so he doesn’t startle or get shy. He just maintains unabashed eye contact and asks, “What are you doing now?”
“I’m finishing up the transfer for your identity software so you aren’t just a one-dimensional love-bot,” Barbie tells him as if he will understand a single thing about what she is talking about.
“So cool,” K-0080 responds. She does a double take at the hint of Californian accent in there.
It’s a very personal response for an android that is still only half-done. Did Kate put some of his traits in the original data upload without telling anyone? Barbie wouldn't put it past her to sneak something like that in there, after all everyone in the office calls her Weird Barbie because of their similar faces and her eccentric behavior. The two of them just pretend they don't know it.
When the android doesn’t react further, she returns to her computer, skimming for any errors that cropped up in the download for Kate’s code. And the code is extensive. Mattel spared no expense in polling target audiences for the type of “romantic companion” they wanted. They conducted numerous surveys on personality traits, hobbies, and qualities that people found most attractive. Even K-0080’s voice was hand picked. Barbie does not envy the poor intern who had to marathon hundreds of romantic comedies to create the perfect vocal blend of male Hollywood heartthrobs. What the company has settled on is this: K-0080 is to be a beach-loving, optimistic, charmingly awkward boyfriend-type with a soft spot. People want a companion they can fall in love with, but not one that is so perfectly superior that it ruins the illusion.
With Gloria's expert eye and Kate's creative genius, all Barbie has to do is put the puzzle pieces together. She isn’t the romantic type, honestly, but it’s a simple task with all the heavy lifting already done.
She sets the data files to transfer. With a sigh she stands up out of her desk chair and stretches. Her joints all pop in succession, an embarrassing reminder that this last month and a half she has been spending more time sitting at her computer designing a robot with a fake social life than she has being, you know, actually social. K-0080 tracks her movements with his eyes. They’re a shade of blue that is entrancing without tipping into uncanny valley territory.
If the trial period goes well, orders for more Ken Line androids will go into effect. That means different skins, personality traits, heights, weights, every customizable quality will be on the table. More variation means more opportunity to widen the customer demographic. She approaches the android and considers this potential future. Will K-0080 be the only one of his line to look like this? Or will people love him so much they’ll want an exact replica, leading to advertisements and billboards showcasing identical androids? She walks in a slow circle around him. What will become of this model specifically in the grand scheme of things?
When she stops in front of him again, K-0080 smiles up at her with a dreamy sort of affectionate expression. Barbie can’t help the heat that rushes to her face. How has he mastered that already?
The moment breaks with the chiming of her computer. Data Transfer Complete the screen reads. Below that, a horizontal bar is filled in with a hot pink color, and to the right end of the bar is a 100% symbol. Barbie removes the microchip from her computer and brings it over to K-0080. She carefully folds back the cartilage of his right ear to expose the port in his skull. It’s a lot like an SD card for a camera, or a hard drive for a computer. The android is a vessel that stores information, and that information is transferred from the microchip. K-0080 has the capacity to learn dozens of languages, skills, and even fabricated memories and storylines. Kate calls it a “roleplay treasure trove.”
She steps back after inserting the microchip, then walks around so that she faces the android once more. K-0080’s face shifts to a neutral expression as he absorbs the influx of new information. A silver loading symbol replaces the irises around his pupils, gradually filling up with the same pink color as on the computer. When it is full, his irises fade back to their regular ocean-blue.
This project has been years in the making. Years of blueprinting, engineering, researching, and it all comes down to this. The gravity of the situation is enough to make Barbie’s heart race.
“Alright, let’s test you out. What’s your name?” Barbie asks.
K-0080 seems to ponder the question, as if he is searching through his internal database for the correct response. His reaction time will get quicker with time, Barbie knows. He’ll need to go on trial runs. Mattel will be bringing in real people to go on “dates” with the first ever romantic companion so he can get real world experience. K-0080's code grants him the ability not only to gain knowledge from a single data transfer, but to pick up knowledge firsthand. The possibilities are literally endless. As if he is fully aware of this unprecedented accomplishment, K-0080’s lips stretch into a confident grin.
“My name is Ken.”

I've had a lot of friends reach out to me the past couple days and I just don't have the spoons to respond to all of y'all so I'm gonna say what I need to here:
I love you and appreciate you all. Your condolences and well wishes were received and mean a lot to me.
Now, for those who are not in the loop, I would like to take a moment to tell you about why I haven't been around for a hot minute despite really trying my best to be (under the cut, because good lord are there a lot of heavy topics on the table such as pet loss, depression, mental and physical health and the degradation thereof, stress and anxiety and more)
So, just in a brief bullet point recap, since about july of this years I have:
been switched onto a project at work that put increasingly more important responsibilities on my shoulders despite me saying that i never want to be in that position again
been switched back to my normal project in the middle of a hierarchy shift, therefore not knowing who to contact for literally anything (we're still working this out, btw)
started my final semester of college with 4 classes (reading & translating dead language #1, reading & translating dead language #2, novels in dead language #1, and the history of my native tongue that requires reading in the dead ancient form of it)
found myself being forced into monthly outings with my mother (a test in repairing our relationship that is going... okay)
somehow became integral in a discord (not upset, just not sure how i ended up here frfr)
being told on the first day of classes that i am having surgery ASAP on a cyst (we all know my history with cysts here.. it's not pretty)
the absolute atrocity that blue ridge ended up being. that was supposed to be my relax time, my time to unwind from everything else and i still have not recovered my loss of sleep from being up for 40 hours straight because of how horrible that weekend was
had my surgery cancelled because i'm too fat and then being ghosted by the doctor
had my heart absolutely demolished by a guy I thought I could love, only to be reminded that love is a luxury not afforded to people like me
broke up with my primary care physician because my health is degrading so fucking bad that i literally woke up feeling like i broke my wrist just because. and he still won't take me seriously. i can barely walk at this point, let alone stay awake and functioning longer than 4 hours at a time
had my employee review (that actually went well, but i did get my ass chewed out for low production)
had the world fall apart around me as any hope i had for humanity is shattered
release my book 3 days later because it was too late to change the release day by then
bury myself in a depression hole that i'm learning is normal for authors after their book releases
have to move my grandma into assisted living/memory care
have to immediately move myself out of my apartment with a weeks notice because the stress of living next to violent neighbors was finally getting to me (triggered my past with domestic violence) AND they started harassing me
had to undergo a medical procedure because i can't even eat food without my body rebelling
missed a month of classes because of depression
failed 2 latin tests in a row followed by bombing the midterm which was... great of my mental health especially considering i haven't received anything lower than a B or a C on an exam since ever (i was an honor roll/4.0/gifted studies kid)
Failed a History of the English Language exam because i cannot code switch between German, Latin, and English quickly enough (those are the 3 that comprise middle english btw)
a week after moving into my grandma's house I almost burned it down
found out that someone I really respected and looked up to as a friend was a Zionist
and finally: on Saturday I had to put down the cat I have owned for 15 years. She's undoubtedly older than that, but I was her owner for 15 years. She was my first ESA. I was able to tell my prof I wouldn't be in for the SECOND LATIN MIDTERM on monday because of it so now i have to take it tomorrow, but i couldn't get out of the greek exam or work. I asked for one (1) day off work and was told that my cat dying was not sufficient enough reason for the time off without using PTO (that i don't have because I used it on the absolutely horrible weekend that was Blue Ridge)
So yeah. I haven't been around. I've been more around on twitter but that's mostly me just reposting a bunch of posts about Palestine rn and other posts that my friends make. I'm so fucking exhausted and nauseous and just done. I haven't really written anything either because my work up until now has shown both the horrors of humanity and the underlying hope but I do not have that hope anymore and it hurts
Ironically since I've started working on Desecrate I've started wondering if this is my punishment for straying from God all those years ago. I don't think so but not I gotta add re-working through my religious trauma and my Catholic Guilt to my never ending list of things to do.
If you read this whole thing, kudos to you. I appreciate you all and I'm sorry for dumping it but I have not been able to really say anything about what's going on in my life because i just.. idk I don't have the words for it most days. I'm just tired.
#andi talks#vent post#life fucking suck rn man#and i just i don't know if i can keep holding out for it to get better

Spoiler-Free Review: Oooooh this was GOOD! It’s not even a horror novel, not really; it kinda feels like a Da Vinci Code-type thriller if it was crossed with Lovecraft, but this is a million miles better than either.
The main reason for that is the characters. They are AMAZING. Johnny seems like the obvious standout: a white billionaire genius who has saved the world by curing HIV and Alzheimer’s, among her many MANY other accomplishments. But she’s also selfish and destructive; she claims to be doing things for the sake of “the world”, that she wants to save as many people as she can, but she’s also oblivious to those around her, and is really quite selfish. It makes her rather unlikeable, but also very interesting, because she’s done a lot of good for the world, but she is really quite a terrible person.
And then there’s Nick, who is the balance to Johnny’s, well, everything: a Person of Color who is very much not a white billionaire genius, who has a regular shitty job and normal everyday concerns, with siblings and a mom who need him to pay the bills and buy the groceries. He’s immensely sympathetic as a character, and it certainly helps that he’s also the narrator, because I don’t think Johnny would make for a very interesting narrator even if she DOES have Main Character Energy. (Actually I think Johnny wouldn't make a very good narrator precisely BECAUSE she has Main Character Energy.)
While the plot’s amazing and the worldbuilding’s pretty solid, what really makes this novel stand out is the friendship between Nick and Johnny. It’s complicated and messy and deeply, deeply flawed, but it’s this novel’s primary emotional core, and it’s what keeps the reader onboard the ride that is the story. Without it, I don’t think this novel would be nearly as interesting, or nearly as enjoyable. The contrasts between them also help bring up some important themes about class, wealth, race, and gender. All those things complicate the friendship between Nick and Johnny, make it less straightforward and more nuanced. It also makes it clear just how powerful the bonds are between them, because this is clearly a friendship forged in something else other than shared commonalities.
So overall, this was a fun, fast-paced read. It reads more like a adventure novel or a thriller than a horror novel, and while it functions great in that regard, what really keeps the reader’s attention are the interesting characters and their complex, complicated friendship, which provides the strong emotional core around which the rest of the novel hangs.
Rating: four and a half ancient eldritch artifacts (4.5 stars)

Unit 9 Blog
Nature holds countless wonders that continue to amaze and inspire us, but if I had to highlight one particularly astonishing phenomenon, it would be the mysterious and awe-inspiring world of bioluminescence. The idea of organisms creating their own light feels almost magical, as if nature has embedded secret, living lanterns within its ecosystems. This biological marvel connects the gap between the extraordinary and the everyday, bringing an element of the fictitious to the real world. Let’s dive into what makes bioluminescence so incredible and how it reveals the complex artistry of nature. Bioluminescence is the production and emission of light by living organisms, a trait seen in creatures such as fireflies, certain types of fungi, and deep-sea dwellers like jellyfish and anglerfish. The most fascinating thing about this phenomena is that it is an evolutionary marvel that performs vital survival functions rather than only being a beautiful display. For instance, fireflies use their rhythmic flashes to attract potential partners. Each species has a unique pattern that functions as a kind of coded language. In the huge, dark ocean where sunlight never reaches, deep-sea fish use their glow to communicate or attract prey. Imagine being submerged in total darkness, where the only light comes from living organisms. The primary source of light in the deep water is bioluminescence, which takes the role of the sun. The anglerfish is an excellent example of adaptation fulfilling a need thanks to its bioluminescent lure. In addition to being a tool for predators, this light represents life's resilience by demonstrating that even in the most hostile and severe conditions, nature manages to endure and flourish. The biological foundation of this natural miracle adds to its amazingness. A chemical known as luciferin reacts with oxygen to produce light in this reaction. The process, which is made possible by the enzyme luciferase, is a very effective way to transfer energy because it virtually never loses heat. The fact that this efficiency outperforms artificial light sources acts as a reminder that even the most advanced technology can still learn a lot from the inventions of nature. Bioluminescence and nature also find their way into our art and society. Consider the vivid descriptions of people discovering luminous mushrooms in enchanted woodlands in books or the frequent usage of glowing components to generate wonder in movies. The sense of wonder and excitement that bioluminescence evokes in the human mind is captured in these depictions. This mutually beneficial relationship between nature and art is a reflection of the chapters we have read that highlight the need of interpretation in creating a comprehensive understanding of environmental phenomena. The basic concept of bioluminescence teaches us that nature’s greatest feats are often its most purposeful. Our course's discussion of nature's innate inventiveness is closely related to how these species use light for communication, hunting, and survival. Chapter 8 emphasized how, in order to properly understand natural wonders, we must communicate both their aesthetic appeal and their practical use. We reach a basic function of environmental interpretation by analyzing phenomena such as bioluminescence to enhance comprehension and generate amazement that goes beyond a quick look. Bioluminescence, in all its forms, is a testament to the marvels hidden within the natural world. It challenges us to look closer, to learn, and to interpret.

Automatic Identification And Data Capture AIDC Capabilities

Understanding Automatic Identification and Data Capture‘s capabilities, uses, and prospects is essential to remain competitive as firms use data-driven decision-making. This article discusses AIDC’s complexity, essentials, broad variety of usage, and revolutionary impact on modern business operations.
How Automatic Identification and Data Capture (AIDC) Works
Though they are synthesized differently according on the specifics of the processes, each of these technologies uses AIDC in a different manner.
However, usually the gadget uses a transducer to record the data, which includes pictures, sounds, or movies of the target. Converting sound, vision, or video into a digital file is the primary goal of all transducers, regardless of the technology’s application whether it be a bar code, smart card, RFID, or anything else.
After then, the collected data is either automatically moved to a cloud-based system or stored in a database. The software and how it integrates with the collecting equipment, whatever it may be, decide this phase. After that, the data may be evaluated and/or classified.
Despite its broad use, AIDC is primarily utilized for one of three purposes: 1) asset tracking, 2) identification and validation, and 3) connections with other systems.
Components of AIDC
Data Encoding: Alphanumeric characters must be converted into machine-readable code in this first phase. Usually, the encoded data is included into tags, labels, or other carriers that are fastened to the objects that need to be recognized.
Machine reading or scanning: Specialized equipment reads encoded data and generates an electrical signal. These readers might be barcode, RFID, or biometric.
Data decoding: It converts electrical signals into digital data so computers can read and store alphanumeric characters.
Applications of AIDC
Numerous sectors have used Automatic Identification and Data Capture technology due of its versatility:
Retail and Inventory Management: Simplifies point-of-sale procedures and stock monitoring.
Healthcare: Improves hospital asset monitoring, medicine administration, and patient identification.
Supply chain and logistics: Enhances product tracking and streamlines warehouse operations.
Manufacturing: Makes quality control and manufacturing line automation easier.
Access control and security: Offers safe authentication for sensitive data or limited regions.
Automatic Identification and Data Capture greatly lowers human error, boosts productivity, and offers real-time insight into a number of business functions by automating the data gathering process. AIDC systems are become more complex as technology advances, providing increased speed, accuracy, and integration potential with other corporate systems.
Advantages of (AIDC) Automatic Identification and Data Capture
One must first examine the technologies that Automatic Identification and Data Capture enhances before evaluating the advantages of using it.
Barcode readers: AIDC has been producing barcode labels and barcode reader technology for many years. Numerous sectors, including retail, healthcare, education, warehouse environments, manufacturing, entertainment, and many more, may utilize barcodes for monitoring, identification, and counting.
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID): It tags use a scanner to provide detailed information, which is then picked up by a specialized reader via AIDC. RFID tags are usually attached to objects that need real-time reporting and data collecting, as well as sophisticated tracking.
Biometrics: Biometrics compare biological characteristics, such as fingerprints or irises, using a specific AIDC scanning method to identify people. This cutting-edge data capturing technology, which was previously limited to science fiction movies, is now used in workplaces and even on individual mobile devices.
OCR (Optical Character Recognition): It uses data capture and automatic identification to scan text that has been typed or written. This technology is used in the process of digitalization.
Magnetic strips: AIDC is used by magnetic strips to enable the “swiping” of critical data for almost instantaneous verification. The magnetic strips that are used on credit/debit cards, building admission cards, library cards, public transit passes, and other items are part of the AIDC technology that almost everyone carries about at all times.
Smart cards: In essence, smart cards are more sophisticated versions of magnetic strips. They are often used on cards intended just for personal use and in similar ways. The AIDC technology is also used in passports.
Voice recognition: Like biometrics, voice recognition compares a voice to a database of other voices by utilizing a device to record data that is then automatically processed using AIDC technology.
Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS): The technology, articles may be identified as they enter a guarded area like malls or libraries. The technology alerts illegal people from stealing products from stores, libraries, museums, and other essential institutions. This technology allows theft. Electronic Article Surveillance uses RFID and other EAS technologies.
Real-Time Locating Systems (RTLS): It are completely automated systems that use wireless radio frequency to continually monitor and report the whereabouts of monitored resources. It constantly communicates data to a central CPU using low-power radio transmissions. The finding system uses a grid of locating devices spaced 50 to 1000 feet apart to locate RFID tags. RTLS employs battery-operated RFID tags and mobile network-based finding to locate tags.
Sensors: It convert physical quantities into instrument-readable signals. Aerospace, medical, manufacturing, robotics, robots, and automobiles employ sensors. Sensors are crucial to automation and control. New sensors are wireless and use an improved approach to capture more data than wired sensors.
The Challenges of Using Automatic Identification and Data Capture
There is always a risk of data loss, fraud, and/or theft since many of the technologies discussed above include the evaluation and storage of information, some of which is sensitive information.
Let’s examine how Automatic Identification and Data Capture are used specifically with RFID. Although RFID tags may store a lot of data, this does not guarantee that the information is always safe. RFIDs are vulnerable to hacking since they rely on radio waves, which means that anybody with the means to get the valuable data might access this sensitive information.
Additionally, like many modern technologies, Automatic Identification and Data Capture is becoming increasingly sophisticated; nonetheless, a seamless system has yet to be developed, meaning that it does not always function as intended. Fortunately, a wide variety of goods use AIDC technology.

The Rise of Artificial Intelligence: A Deep Dive into AI and Machine Learning

What is Artificial Intelligence (AI)?
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the advanced simulation of human intelligence in machines, enabling them to perform tasks that typically require human cognition. These systems can handle complex tasks such as problem-solving, reasoning, learning, and even creative thinking. The ultimate aim of AI is to create systems capable of functioning autonomously, intelligently making decisions without human intervention.
In today’s tech-driven world, AI has become foundational to a wide array of technologies, from virtual assistants like Siri and Alexa to sophisticated systems in healthcare, finance, and beyond. AI can be categorized into two main types: Narrow AI, which is designed for specific tasks such as facial recognition, and General AI, a theoretical concept where machines exhibit human-like intelligence. While narrow AI is in widespread use today, general AI is still in the research phase.
Understanding Machine Learning (ML)
Machine Learning (ML) is a crucial subset of AI that focuses on enabling machines to learn from data. Unlike traditional programming, where specific rules are coded, ML employs algorithms to detect patterns in vast datasets, allowing the system to make predictions or decisions without human intervention. Simply put, ML empowers machines to "learn" and improve over time, refining their performance based on experience.
Also Read: Transforming UX with AI and Machine Learning
There are three primary types of machine learning:
Supervised Learning – Algorithms are trained on labeled data (data with known outcomes), helping the model learn patterns.
Unsupervised Learning – The model identifies hidden patterns in data without predefined labels.
Reinforcement Learning – The model learns through trial and error, receiving rewards for correct actions and penalties for incorrect ones.
How AI and Machine Learning Collaborate
AI and Machine Learning often function together, with AI providing the framework for creating intelligent systems, and ML offering the tools for learning and adaptation. Without machine learning, AI systems would depend entirely on pre-programmed rules, severely limiting their ability to manage dynamic tasks.
Take self-driving cars as an example. These autonomous vehicles rely on AI to analyze data from sensors and cameras, but it's machine learning that enables them to adapt in real time. ML models help the car understand its environment, making decisions like when to stop, change lanes, or avoid obstacles. AI provides the overall intelligence, while ML ensures the car can adjust to ever-changing conditions.
Applications of AI and Machine Learning Across Industries
AI and ML are making a significant impact across various sectors, revolutionizing the way businesses operate and solve problems. Let’s explore how they are transforming key industries.
1. Healthcare AI and ML are reshaping the healthcare industry, with applications ranging from diagnostics to treatment recommendations and robotic surgeries. AI-driven tools can process massive amounts of medical data, providing faster, more accurate diagnostic insights than human practitioners. For instance, ML models can sift through thousands of medical records to predict diseases like cancer and cardiovascular conditions, improving early detection.
2. Finance The finance sector heavily utilizes AI and ML for risk management, fraud detection, and automated trading. ML models can analyze vast amounts of financial data to identify suspicious activity, flagging potential fraud before it escalates. In the trading world, AI systems use real-time data to make informed decisions, often outperforming human traders by identifying patterns and trends that are invisible to the human eye.
3. Autonomous Vehicles Autonomous vehicles, such as those developed by Tesla and Waymo, rely extensively on AI and ML to make real-time decisions. These cars are equipped with a range of sensors—radar, cameras, LiDAR—that collect data to help the vehicle navigate. Machine learning plays a key role in interpreting this data, allowing the car to recognize and respond to various road conditions, traffic signals, and obstacles, improving its driving performance over time.
4. Retail and E-commerce In retail, AI and ML power recommendation engines, dynamic pricing, and personalized marketing strategies. Major platforms like Amazon and Netflix use sophisticated machine learning algorithms to suggest products and content based on user preferences and behavior. Retailers are also leveraging AI for inventory management, demand forecasting, and real-time pricing adjustments to optimize sales.
5. Customer Service AI-powered chatbots and virtual assistants are transforming customer service by providing efficient, automated responses to customer queries. Utilizing natural language processing (NLP), a subset of AI, these bots can understand and respond to customer questions in real time. Over time, machine learning models improve their responses, enhancing accuracy and reducing the need for human agents.
The Future of AI and Machine Learning
