Prompt 291
You know what? I’m feelin’ a Prompt with the whole halfa family, all the clones and everything.
See, Danny? He’s grown up, he’s moved out, started looking at colleges himself after spending a few years travelling and learning about himself without the threat of a ghost attack.
He’s kept in touch with his friends, both living and dead, and ignores Vlad for the most part now that they’ve reached a truce of sorts, and honestly? He’s just living his life.
But see, it’s kind of hard to figure out what college to pick, with his admittedly not-great choices. Look, he might have a new-ish ID but he’s still visibly not exactly human (though thankfully doesn’t have to worry about the GIW after a… summer activity that ended with several missing buildings)
And most people he goes to? Finds him ‘too unsettling’ which excuse him?? How is he unsettling? He’s a twenty-five year old with six kids ranging from one to six! How is that “scary” huh? Ancients, and all this is making him use the cash he’s saved up over time.
And then- as though all of this isn’t stressful enough and he’s not genuinely worried that he won’t have enough money to feed the kids if he goes to school- a hero nearly trips over Jordan and starts freaking out. He is so fucking done.

Omg idk if you talk Spanish or if it’s just XXC, but with that little and wonderful doodle you gave me the amazing headcanon of XXC being bilingual and just randomly speaking Spanish out of nowhere and nobody understanding him

[TL: XXC says "don't do coke in the bathroom"]
Shout out to the Spanish speaking MXTX fans. I don't think this is remotely what you wanted. (bonus below cut, TW: Drugs)

Girls don’t want boys. Girls want to find a lost key that unlocks a hidden door to an abandoned garden surrounded by a tall stone wall, isolated from everyone else where they can tend it and bring it back to life with their own two muddy hands.

if i had a nickel for every time i came up with a star wars rebels AU based off a piece of literature published between 1900 and 1915, I would have four nickels. which is kind of a lot and it's REALLY weird that it happened four times

We have got to stop using the discarding of mobility aids as a mark of character development.
I have seen so damn much of people's disabilities becoming ✨ magically cured ✨ when they finally learn how to have confidence or some bullshit.
Enough.
How about instead of someone throwing their cane aside, they start to use that cane wherever they go, no matter who may stare?
How about instead of someone in a wheelchair suddenly having a miraculous walking scene, they learn to decorate their chair and make it their own, wrapping spikes around the handles so people stop grabbing them?
How about someone with crutches gaining the confidence to take them on stage?
How about someone with a leg prosthesis wearing shorts in public for the first time, the metal leg on full display?
Hell, how about a character learning to be kind to themself? How about a character learning to use mobility aids instead of trying to force themself to fit the standards of a normative society?
Disability is not sin.
Disability is not weakness.
Disability is not a failure of character.
I'm not physically disabled in these ways, and maybe I'm overstepping by soapboxing like this. But it just seems so fucking unfair that those who are aren't ever allowed a happy ending without magically becoming abled again, as though you can fix a life-changing condition with the power of friendship.
We need to stop writing people healing from permanent disabilities.
We need to start writing people learning to embrace them.

Hello, everyone! I'm curious about the opinion of those who play with RC (Romance Club). My question is: which stories do you find the best or just the most interesting? You can write many in comment (if there's more in your opinion). Thank you in advance.

I've talked about the misinterpretation of The Secret Garden as being about healing from grief before, and I'm still thinking about it and found some interviews with authors of recent retellings that demonstrate this assumption about the story:
Ivy Noelle Weir, author of The Secret Garden on 81st Street: When I was re-visiting the original work, I was struck by how much it is, really, about grieving. Mary, Lord [sic] Craven, and Colin have all lost people, and they’re sort of feeling their way through it and figuring out how to live when you’re grieving. Grief, unfortunately, doesn’t really know an age, and it’s something children experience too. I rooted myself in Mary’s perspective: What is like to be so young and experiencing so much change all at once? If I were her age again, and finding myself all alone in a new place, what would bring me comfort, what would intrigue me, what would be difficult?
Lorelai Savaryn, author of The Edge of In Between (transcribed from a video interview): Actually, in my early drafts, Lottie had a poor relationship with her parents too, and that was one of the moments for me—some things weren’t working, and it wasn’t […] really the story I wanted to tell. So there was a point like three rounds into revisions where I realized to make the story right, I had to have her relationship with her parents be lovely and wonderful, and so I had to completely start over and write the whole thing over again at that point and change that, and I think that that allowed for her grief journey to be more authentic to what people—to what kids for the most part could relate to. I know we can all have complicated relationships with our parents, but I wanted her first experience of loss just to be really true to like someone who had deeply loved, because I think we can all relate to like losing somebody that we deeply loved, so I chose to change that […]
Amber A. Logan, author of The Secret Garden of Yanagi Inn: So when I started thinking of stories to retell (I love a good retelling) and started brainstorming about retelling The Secret Garden I had to ask myself: what kind of elements do I want to pull out of the original? Perhaps it is because The Secret Garden is a children’s book, or perhaps because it is a product of its time, but I’ve always felt that the main character, Mary, wasn’t dealing with enough grief. She just lost both her parents and was shipped to a strange place on the opposite side of the world! I wanted to really pull that grief out and delve into it on a much deeper level. But the original story is about healing and new life, and I wanted to include that kind of bittersweet happiness at the end that only comes about from having survived a dark place[.]
Weir is correct that the major characters have all lost people, but her perception of them as "feeling their way through it and figuring out how to live when you’re grieving" isn't really supported by the text? Mary is not grieving at all because she had more or less no relationship with her neglectful parents. Colin has lost his mother, but he never knew her, so his sense of loss is directed not toward her personally but what could have been. The two of them are "figuring out how to live" but doing so after having never been given the chance to in the first place. Mr. (not Lord!) Craven, meanwhile, spends most of the book wallowing in his grief rather than trying to cope with it; this is a subplot and not the main theme.
Savaryn is telling a story that is unambiguously about grief. It's a perfectly valid story, but her observation that retaining the heroine's poor relationship with her parents undermined the story she wanted to tell is interesting. It didn't work because the themes of The Secret Garden are significantly different from the themes Savaryn is employing. It's not that Mary's "grief journey" is less "authentic" but that she isn't grieving her lost parents because there was nothing about that relationship to grieve, and that's the tragedy of it. Yes, we can all relate to having deeply loved and lost, but that's not the story Burnett was telling, and since Savaryn is telling that story, the choice to use The Secret Garden as an inspiration doesn't seem to me to fit well.
Logan seems to have missed the point entirely. Mary's not "dealing with enough grief" is not a flaw of the book to be chalked up to its time or intended audience; it's a very deliberate choice that Burnett makes to demonstrate the outcome of Mary's loveless upbringing.
And I'm struggling to understand why it seems to be so difficult for so many creators to grasp something that the text makes so clear. Why does everyone want so badly for Mary to be grieving a loss? Is it not bad enough that she has been so emotionally neglected that she has no concept of attachment? There appears to be such determination that Mary must be grieving that the assumption is made that Burnett got her own story wrong and it must be adjusted to correct this failing--when the actual issue is right there, in the text, practically spelled out.
Maybe I should write a paper.

Source (guys, GUYS, it's her CN VA!!!). Oh my god, I'm feelings things. Literally yesterday, I was complaining in the tags on one of Kafka's posts how characters like Yelan are so incredibly subjected to being reduced to just a specific trait or two if most. And then I wake up to her Chinese VA having gotten people together to make this entire ode for Yelan's birthday, and it's gorgeous. The sheer passion she must have to have for the character as to have gotten this made, makes up for everything. It's passion, guys, passion will get me every single time. God, I'm going to have so much to analyze in this thing alone. AaaaAAAAAa. God, some have already translated a few lines, but I'm waiting on people getting the whole thing. But I just, happy birthday, my beloved Yelan who I'll never let go of.
Also, I'm sure this translation isn't perfect, but I managed to scrape together a little translation of part of the VA's description for the video on her Bilibili and it warms my heart:
"When I came up with the idea of "making a song for Night Orchid", I struggled with several options, and finally decided to make a piece with a national style tone, with Night Orchid's unique style, and hoping to incorporate elements of opera (a little personal preference). The character of Night Orchid especially poked me, and I wanted to express her backstory through the song, so I chose a more narrative theme, dividing the "past" and "present" of Night Orchid with the acquisition of the God's Eye (Vision)."

good things dont last [a hurt/comfort comic of a moment for moon and y/n in the secret garden au]
[tw:major character death mention, death mention, cancer mention]
it was a rainy day, moon looking out window and sighing, he gets up and walks around, looking at the empty garden, the only other thing in the garden being flowers, grass, and bushes.
suddenly the door opens, its y/n. moon gasps and goes over to them. and asks "i-is he ok...did....did he make it...?". "well....the doctors tried their best...but....with the rot...and all the blood and internals that god rotted....he..." y/n couldn't even finish their sentence.
which shook moon to his core...hes gone...suns gone...he had been fighting for so long, hiding and working against the rot.suns gone...
"n...no..." he shakily says...he didnt wanna beleave it, he couldn't believe it, his own brother is gone. "moon...I'm so sorry" y/n starts "but both sun and the doctors tried and did all they can do". moon shakily sighs and says "I know...i know..." he covers his mouth for a bit before letting out a soft whimper and saying in a broken voice "but...why did it have to be so soon?"
y/n sighs and opens their arms for moon to hug them and moon accepts the offer and hugs y/n tight, sobbing into their shoulder..
"shhh...shhh...im right here...im so so sorry this has happened..." y/n says as he rubs moons back, while moon is just sobbing, wishing that all of this was a bad dream.
after a bit of crying, y/n brings moon over to a couch to sit him down, they then say "sun got you something...well made you something...umm...its a gift". he tilts his head as y/n hands him a box with his name on it. he opens it and inside is a crotchety plush of sun. beautifully crafted and really soft.
"press the chest" y/n says, moon tilts his head again and does what y/n says, in which a sound bit plays, and its suns voice and its him singing rises the moon. "t...that's my favorite song....sun used to sing it me whenever I had a nightmare..." moon says voice shaking.
y/n softly smiles and says "i know the feeling of losing someone to something like cancer...or the rot...but....just know people are there for you..", moon smiles and tears up before hugging y/n and saying "thank you..."
later that rainy day, moon and y/n set out flowers at suns reading spot, to memorialize and remember sun.
[you have read the bad ending]

🍳 — cooking
Bad. Don't eat things she's made, please. She doesn't need to eat and honestly eating doesn't bring her much joy anymore! Save for sweets, which she can still taste.
She does not know how to cook, a fact that Sister Kindness takes personally. Despite spending most of her time in Sister Kindness's kitchen she was too busy admiring Kindness and learning how to be a social creature to pick up cooking.
