Don't let her looks fool you, she's not afraid to get dangerous if it means protecting the ones she holds dear. She likes to have fun as much as the next guy, but only when it's a good time to do so. Trivia:
Her last name was originally going to Simmons
One of her quotes in MySims references the Lewis Carroll novel Alice's Adventures in Wonderland
This may be a subtle nod to American Mcgee's Alice, also made by EA
Jolene's age fluctuates throughout the series, she's 17 in MySims, 18 in MySims Kingdoms, 20 in MySims Agents, and 30 in MySims Skyheroes
Her parents are never mentioned
It's implied at the beginning and end of MySims Agents that she and Buddy got married after the events of the game, whether they had any children or not is unknown.
She was originally going to be voiced by Annette Toutonghi, voice of Freddi Fish, but this was changed to Cherami Leigh, the voice of Komaru Naegi from Danganronpa.
Her Japanese voice is Hitomi Nabatame, the voice of Mana Aida aka Cure Heart. It was originally going to be Kiyono Yasuno, voice of Elena Amamiya aka Cure Soleil, but this was changed.
MySims Skyheroes is the only game where Jolene and Buddy don't have an established relationship
Jo in MySims Agents is similar to Kim Possible, being a red-headed hero with a blonde bumbling male sidekick and having a romantic relationship with said sidekick after they've been best friends for a long while. She even hums the theme song to Kim Possible when she's idle. In fact, the comic series that Buddy made based off their adventures is called "Jo Possible".
The only difference between the two is that Kim is a freelance hero while Jolene is part of the MySims Protection Agency, which is an organization.
She's also similar to Sam from Totally Spies, being that they both have similar personality traits, work for a organization dedicated to the protection of civilians (SPA and WHOOP) and even have a blonde partner that wears red (Clover in Sam's case, Buddy in Jolene's case).
It's implied that Jolene might have a singing talent, sometimes when idle, In MySims, she'll hum the MySims theme song. In MySims Agents, she'll hum either the theme tune or Kim Possible's theme song from Kim Possible.
The basis of her personality was that of magical girl protagonists, since she has a strive to protect and help others while carrying a fondness for romance and fun. She even mentions the genre in one of her quotes in MySims about "Those girls you see in shows". She even has the voice actress of Cure Heart from Doki Doki Pretty Cure in the Japanese version.
In one of her quotes, she mentions that most of the spooky Sims are "jerks" She was referring to Morcubus, Yuki, Esma, Vincent, and Brandi. Who are antagonistic and have the Spooky interest. Being that she's friends with Violet (since she likes fun Sims), she's aware that not all of them are mean, just some of them.
Foreign Names:
Dutch: Femke (Meaning "Woman of Peace")
English: Jolene
French: Jolie
Hindi: शांति  (Shaanti) (Meaning "Peace")
Italian: Felicia (From Felice meaning "Happy")
Japanese: ジョーレン Jōren
Polish: Jolene
Spanish: Felicia (From Felice meaning "Happy")

Cheers to @thesimperiuscurse for the tag. I’ll use the heir of gen 4 for this one!
How old is your sim? 15
When is your sim’s birthday? 19th September
What is your sim’s zodiac sign? Virgo. I don’t think it suits him at all.
What is your sim’s ethnicity? Dova is British, but he does have Italian and Spanish ancestry.
Does your sim have any nicknames? Doe.
Do they have a job? If so what is it?  Nope.
Where does your sim live? The central belt of Scotland in a small village, but he moves to the county of Angus later on.
Who does your sim live with? Just his parents at the beginning of the story.
What environment did your sims grow up in? Strict, but more on that later.
What are your sim’s favourite food? Doughnuts!
What is your sim’s favourite drink? He enjoys fizzy drinks.
If they have one what is your sim’s favourite color? Salmon pink.
Does your sim believe in any clichés? (love at first sight): Not particularly.
Is your sim introverted or extroverted? Dova can be a social chameleon. He can spend all his time with people, but he enjoys quiet time too.
Is your sim a pet person? If so what is their favourite animal? Doe would love a dog.
Does your sim have a best friend? Korra, no matter how much they annoy each other.
What is/was your sim’s favourite school subject? Film/media, English, art (not that he’s any good at it). He doesn’t mind PE but strenuous activity isn’t usually his idea of a good time.
Is/was your sim a high, mid or low achiever in school? Mid. Anything to coast by.
Are they planning to go or have they already been to college? If so, what would be or what was their major? Do doesn’t really think about it, and wouldn’t know what he’d want to do anyway tbh. He would like to try and be a radio presenter one day, but so far he hasn’t been able to take any opportunities that have come his way.
What are your sims political beliefs? (if they have them) Don’t be a dick?
What is one thing your sims wants to do before they die? Be a background extra in a cool tv show.
Does your sim have a favourite TV show (cable) and/or movie?: BUFFY! All day, every day.
Is your sim a Netflix viewer? If so what are their top 3 shows: Umbrella Academy, Lucifer, and The Good Place.
Does your sim like books? If so what’s their favourite one? Hitchhikers guide, I would imagine.
Does your sim enjoy video games, if so what is their favourite one and do they play on PC or console? Dova wouldn’t play anything too in depth or story based. Anything he can come in and out of easily, like portal, or play multiplayer like mario party (playing that with Korra, queen of Backstabbing and Gloating, is the worst and best thing ever).
What is your sim’s personal style? Relaxed, low-effort, comfy jumpers and loose trousers.
Does your sim have a lucky charm? I don’t think so.
Is your sim religious?: No.
What kind of music does your sim listen to and who is their  favourite artist? All sorts, I’d imagine, from pop and rap to old school jazz. I think his favourite would be a toss up between Billie Eilish (or however you spell it) and Volbeat.
Is your sim a festive person? If so what’s their favourite holiday? Dova enjoys making fuss for festivities so long as it’s not all on him. The Easter camping trip to their distant relatives’ campsite is a favourite, though it’s not themed in any way. It’s just because it’s the school holidays.
What is your sim’s favourite type of weather? Storms, or atmospheric drizzly rain and grey skies - dreich days to the Scots.
Does your sim prefer to start fights or finish them? Dova is usually non-confrontational but if someone starts a fight and gets to him, he will absolutely shut them down with a scathing remark.
Does your sim have a dream job? Does biscuit taster count?
Does your sim have any siblings? No, but he considers his cousins as siblings.
Does your sim get along with their family? Depends on the day...
What is your sims favourite hobby? Watching TV late at night.
What does your sim look for in a romantic partner? Good bantz. Dova doesn’t really have anything in mind. He likes who he likes.
What is a secret about your sim? Dova isn’t entirely human.
What is a wish your sim has? For control over various things in his life, and for his parents to let him have a life.
What is a flaw your sim has? His laziness can be taken too far and sometimes he forgets to make effort in relationships.
How do others generally perceive your sim? Generally chill and funny, fairly cool because he doesn’t try to be cool.
Does your sim have a greatest achievement? Bingewatching Buffy over a school holiday, probably.
If they have one, what is your sim’s greatest regret? Currently, Dova doesn’t have regrets.
Does your sim have a favourite emoji? The sarcastic kiss emoji, or thumbs up.
Does your sim use simstagram? If so what’s their @? if he had one, it would probably be something like ‘whatwoulddovado’
What is the last text your sim sent (and who did they text)? To Korra:

Tentacle girl mouth. 系列: Inverse Game, Girl and Goblin, Tentacle Girl 发行日期: 2020年2月14日. 触手女孩是一个拼图游戏。每一张图片不再无关紧要,而是连接成一个“故事”。 葵和莎莉一个寻宝者,在探险途中发现了一个山洞。她们预感里面有宝藏。所以决定进去看看。. She was a tentacle monster neither of those made any sense did they? Besides, I was a guy I mean, I was born one, and never bothered to question it at least. Never had a reason to I’m not really a tentacle girl am I? That’s not really something I fantasize about being right? Tentacle Girl is a jigsaw puzzle. Each picture is no longer irrelevant, but connected into a 'story'. Aoi and Sally, a treasure hunter, found a cave during the expedition. They foresee a treasure in it. So I decided to go in and take a look. Unexpectedly, this is a tentacled cave. In the realm of Tentacles Thrive, you will be discovering new tentacle species, stealing Lilith's heart, mating to create new species, managing and reviving the Humana race, or conquering the world through strategic battles. It is an SLG game with a love sim element and real-time battles.

Slices of Singapore Life
Singapore is an island that's only about 270 square miles, which qualifies it as being the smallest country in Southeast Asia and it only has existed as an independent republic since 1965.
I chose to fly Cathay Pacific airlines, which is a Hong Kong based airline, not that it matters, but I thought I'd just mention it.
It's a short flight, so no matter which air carrier you choose, you can put up with any inconvenience or discomfort for a couple of hours.
Including all the taxes and fees, my coach ticket cost 20,835 Thai baht, which translates to about $675.
Tumblr media
The first thing I noticed once I stepped outside the airport terminal was how clean the city was, I mean, it's very clean. No litter, no gum, no cigarette butts. Clean, with a capital "C" and you get the sense that the people are proud of that fact.
If you need a phone card, Green is a big name there (it's a local prepaid SIM card company) and it's cheap and easy to slip into your phone.
Arriving in a city that has a mass transit system in place that can get you around quickly is always a plus. I boarded the green line (the other two are the red and purple lines) at the Singapore Changi Airport and it was just about 30 minutes or so (about 20 minutes by car) and I was checking into the Marina Mandarin hotel.
The Marina Mandarin hotel is a 5 star hotel that just underwent a major renovation. It has a great lobby with live entertainment that is quite eloquent.
The hotel is located across the street from the Suntec Convention & Exhibition Centre and the Esplanade. The Esplanade is the new Performing Arts Centre in Singapore.
It's difficult to imagine that this metropolis was once just a sleepy little fishing village that grew to be a seaport and what it is today; a great city to visit.
You get a clear view of the high-rise buildings that define Singapore's financial and business district. From the hotel, you could walk to the heart of the financial district in about 10 minutes.
I almost felt like I was on a movie set, because there was not a lot of activity on the streets. It was sort of an episode of the Twilight Zone, where the characters enter a city, but there's no activity.
Think of the city as having a relaxed elegance. You know there's money there, but it is low key. I came to call the city, Singa-rich, rather than Singapore because unlike Bangkok, it wasn't a cheap place to stay, eat, or shop.
Thirty-five dollars for a haircut trim seemed a little high for me, and I did go to 4 different salons. Common items were high-priced, but the norm for Singapore.
You can get a good grasp of the city and country, which both bare the same name, by picking up a copy of the English language newspaper; International Herald Tribune.
I passed on eating at the AquaMarine restaurant at the hotel and was disappointed at the Peach Blossoms (Chinese) restaurant, because I like great service and I felt like I was bothering the staff by being there, but I really enjoyed the food, atmosphere, and service at the Italian restaurant on the 5th level of the hotel, called Ristorante Bologna.
If you're a jogger, the Marina Mandarin Singapore hotel is on Raffles Boulevard and a very short distance from the War Memorial Park. It's a very clean park and safe.
There are lots of hotels, but one thing that I have learned in my travels is to talk to as many locals as you can and get the scoop on the best places to go, eat, shop, and drink.
I took my own advice and found a fountain of knowledge from lots of friendly people.
I discovered from more than one person that the best sushi restaurant in the city was Tatsu. Tatsu is a simple and small sushi and Japanese restaurant, but it's a great place for lunch or dinner.

♥ it’s time to spread your podcast palette ♥
We are almost done with January! We’re almost done with the first month of the new year and we are still listening, protesting, talking, and surviving. We still have so much more to accomplish and today’s podcasts may help rekindle that creative spark we all desperately need.
So it’s time to tune into creepy stations, dig around that dusty old library, and keep things campy for flavor. Hopefully this combination of new finds will get us all through February until the welcoming embrace of spring.
Looking for something fresh to please that sudden thirst for audio storytelling? Look no further as PodCake has six more podcasts you’ll certainly love.
1. Point Mystic
Each year thousands of unexplained events occur. We know these accounts to be true. Behind that truth lies the real stories — life-changing and sometimes frightening. My name is Christopher Reynaga. From the shores of Point Mystic, come with me in search of the stories behind the magic, the mystery, and the unexplained.
Magic and mystery collide in Point Mystic, the cult radio show that should be a pleasant pick for the coming chills of the year. Be it a “Dragonscale” epidemic or little white rabbits, these stories are bound to entrance you one way or another.
Point Mystic has only a few episodes under it’s belt at the moment, though I’m sure they would love to welcome you down it’s rabbit hole. So get curious and get on point with this pick.
2. Wooden Overcoats
On the overlooked Channel Island of Piffling, obstinate undertaker Rudyard Funn runs his family’s failing funeral parlor. But when new and sexy undertaker Eric Chapman sets up shop across the square and becomes an immediate sensation, Rudyard realizes he’ll have to take drastic steps to stay in business.
Hello there you Piffling Islander! Got a taste for British black comedy? Well, Wooden Overcoats may or may not be a familiar title among you podcast fanatics. This is most definitely a must-listen for those looking for excellent comedic timing, charm, and a talented cast voicing a colorful cast of characters.
Follow the misadventures of Rudyard and friends and family and rivals as he goes through any means to keep himself afloat and his coffins full. Who says death always has to be a downer?

 Day 1: The chaotic Marrakesh
Yesterday we arrived in Marrakesh around 9.30. The airport was a stunning architectural building. We were pretty surprised how new and clean it was.
Marrakesh Airport 2018
After a never-ending queue at the border, we couldn’t find our driver to the Rijad, but there was a very helpful girl who called him and he finally came to pick us up.
The Moroccan driving style is quite the same as the south Italian one with a difference that there are camels and donkeys crossing the streets. The way from the airport till the Riad was very unexpectable. Clean and beautiful road with palm trees, luxurious mansions and the view of the snowy Atlas Mountains. After that, we headed to the Medina and our driver left us with a very old man who carried our backpack with a trolley till our accommodation. We felt bad because he seemed very weak. La Medina was crowded with people, shops, crazy drivers. All in all, it was a proper Moroccan chaos, but also very authentic. Our Riad was in a tiny and dark street, it was kinda creepy, but when we entered it was like a small palace of Aladdin.
  Riad Dar Soukaina
The guy from the reception was very kind and he invited us for a Moroccan tea and also explained to us where to buy a SIM or where to change money. Then he also gave us a name. I was Aisha, and my friends Fatima and Laila :D. The Rijad is called Dar Soukina and we paid 50€/night/3 pax. The brekky was included and the transfer from the airport was 15€.
After the tea, we headed to the city. We bought an orange SIM card with 3GB data for 60DHM~ 5.5€. The guy helped us to activate it. You can buy it in every small shop. I really recommend it because of navigation and security reasons.
Things to see in Marrakesh:
Djemaa El Fna Plaza: The market square where you can buy fresh and delicious fruit juices for 4-10DHM. You can find there basically everything you need, from the cobra and monkey hypnotizer to the street-food and ATM-s.
Djema el Fna and their fresh smooth stands
El Badi Palace: A nice ruin of an ancient Palace with Atlas Mountain views.
Koutoubia Mosque: A beautiful mosque in the middle of the Medina.
Zocos – Marrakesh Market (Souk) and Medina: a chaotic district with narrow streets, full of local shops, handicrafts, street-food and crazy scooter drivers.
  Kasbah Mosque: another stunning mosque.
Tumblr media
Saadian tombs: entrance costs 10 DHM, it is basically an ancient cemetery which looks like a hidden palace.
Our plan was visit everything in 1 day, but the problem was that all places are closing at 5 pm. Therefore we couldn’t make it to enter these places:
-Menara Gardens
-Majorelle Gardens
-Bahia Palace
-Medersa Ben-Yussef
-Yves Saint Laurent Museum
Day 2: Ouzoud Falls.
Our day started in a little rush because our receptionist told us that the driver is coming at 8.30 am. He came at 8.00 am … So we couldn’t have a proper brekky, but we had a nice smoothie at the big square for 10 DHM. We booked this tour with our Rijad (Dar Soukina) because it was easier for us that the driver comes directly to pick you up, instead of looking for the van in the middle of the Medina.
We were waiting for the group and we headed to the Ouzoud Falls through the Atlas Mountains. It was a 2.30 h drive from Marrakesh. We were so surprised because everything was so green with the snowy Atlas in the back, and the temperature was almost 35 C°. We didn’t expect that. It was beautiful. You could see some hidden Riad-s in the middle of nowhere, people using donkeys like public transportation or working hard on the plantations.
The tour costs 27€ and then there are some optional fees for the tour guide (30 DHM), lunch menu (100 DHM) or a boat ride below the waterfalls (20 DHM).
Our tour guide was a Moroccan Berber and he spoke in 5 different languages. They told us that they grew up in the desert learning from the Koran and their grandfathers showed them how to write. They didn’t go to college, but they know more things about life than us, they speak in more languages and they didn’t have the opportunity to study at an expensive University, not even High School. When we were talking to Aladdin from our Riad, he told us the same. It was very touching. You know, when you listen to this kind of interesting people, you start to appreciate what you have. The main message of this day was that we are studying and working hard to be competitive, but they are doing all of those things just to survive and to have clear water at their home. We are worried about our phone battery or other senseless things. Sometimes It would be a better lecture for everyone traveling to third world countries and learn from the local people, than sitting on the school chairs listening some useless subjects, that you are not even gonna use in the future.
The tour to the waterfall was amazing, I would really recommend it to everyone. Especially if you have more time in Morocco.
After the tour, we went to Hotel Mamounia, a stunning luxury hotel, and then we decided to have a nice dinner in Nomad.
Tumblr media
You have to make a reservation, and it’s in the middle of the Souk, so it’s not really recommended to walk there and back during the night for three girls, but if you do it, just dress up properly and it’s gonna be fine, or you can take a door to door tuk-tuk for 30 DHM. The food was very delicious there, and the sunset was beautiful from the rooftop. Nomad is a high-quality restaurant in Marrakesh, so you have to expect also higher prices. We paid 160 DHM each and we had a main course, dessert and, fresh smoothies.
Day 3: On our way to the Sahara
Itinerary: Marrakech – Ait ben Haddou – Ouarzazate – Dades Valley.
We said goodbye to Aladdin and we headed to the Sahara. We were picked up close to the Rijad by Omar and Hassan, our Berber local tour guides for the next couple of days.
I would 100% recommend this tour for everyone. Here you can see the link to the agency:  Kasbah Luna del Sur
If you contact me directly I can give you the direct contact, Nuria, who can assist you with everything.
We drove through the High Atlas Mountains and stopped at Morocco‘s highest point Tizi en Tichka (2.260m) and we also visited some local Berber villages till we arrived in Kasbah de Ait Benhaddou (declared as Cultural Heritage site by UNESCO in 1987). Some famous movies were also filmed there such as:
Now the Kasbah is a touristic souvenir and handicraft village. No people living there anymore.
Tumblr media
After we headed to the Dades Valley through Ouarzazate and the impressing Palmeral of Skoura. It was incredible how the landscape was changing from the snowy mountains, to the green fields and the orange desert. We didn’t expect that.
Entrance to the local Moroccan movie industry in Ouarzazate in Morocco with a blue sky and a perfect light
We stopped in a supermarket to buy some snacks and beers, which was pretty funny because we asked Hassan about Muslim religion vs. drinking and his answer was: You know Aisha(that was my Arabic name), there is Marlboro light, Coca-Cola light and, Muslim light. I‘m a Muslim light so I can drink.:D He was great, and exceptional.
Tumblr media
Hassan is a nomad Berber guy who grew up in the Sahara, speaks 4-5 different languages, didn’t go to school and he knows much more about life than all of us. He never travelled anywhere of Morocco, and he doesn’t want to because as he told us: ” Everyone is coming here, I learn from tourists, I don’t need to travel when I can travel with them by just listening to their stories. I also have to add that for Moroccan people is pretty difficult to get a travel Visa because some of the special requirements make it impossible for them to cross their border.
At the end of the day, we arrived in the Rijad in the valley, where we got an amazing dinner. The accommodation was super big and clean, the food was good and the views were amazing.
Day 4: Dades Valley- Todra-Merzouga
The next day, after a Moroccan breakfast (kinda bread with bread …😅), we continued our route through many Berber villages. We visited the Gorges of Todra with the possibility of eating there, and we also took advantage to see the impressive place with tranquility. We also had the opportunity to buy some handmade local stuff from a Berber nomad family. Omar helped us to bargain a little bit, he was very great.
Once the visit was finished, we went directly to the golden dunes of the Erg Chebbi, where we started our dromedary excursion, making a stop to watch the sunset, until reaching the heart of the desert.
Upon arrival to the desert camp, we had an excellent and refreshing tea with an exquisite Berber dinner, all enlivened by the music of the tam-tam (drums). We also tried sand-boarding, which was so much fun. I really recommend that for everyone. The crazy thing was that the tents were fully equipped with everything, we also had shower and toilet in our tents, which was incredible.
We enjoyed a unique and unforgettable night watching stars in the middle of the desert. We felt so small out there, it was breathtaking. One in a lifetime experience, for sure.
Day 5: Sunrise in Merzouga-Fez
Today, our Berber friend, Mustafa woke us up at 5.45 am because we had to get ready for the sunrise camel ride. After that, we arrived in the hostel when we left our stuff the day before, for breakfast and shower. After the brekky, we had to say goodbye. We were almost crying with the girls because they made our trip memorable. They are such an amazing people, that you won’t find everywhere.
So the group headed back to Marrakesh, and we caught a taxi with another 3 people to Fez for 250 dirhams/person. It was a 7-8 hours drive with short stops.
Finally, we arrived in Fez. We decided to book a night at the Marriott Hotel Jnan Palace, as I have the employee discount, we thought: “Why not? Tonight is our last night!”. We paid 35 euros/person/night with dinner and Hammam included. So, I think it was a pretty good deal. The rest of the day, we chilled at the Hotel and we planned our last day in Fez.
Day 6: Fez – Barcelona
In the morning when I did the check-out, I talked to the Front Office Manager. he was amazing, but they really wanted to sell us the tour guide for 250 dirhams (which is pretty expensive in Morocco), because they told us that is very dangerous for three girls to go to the middle of the Madina and get lost. First, I wanted to discuss it with the girls what they want to do in that case and finally, we decided to not taking the tour guide because it can’t be worst than in Marrakesh… and we were right at the end.
First, we took a small red city “Petit Taxi” to the Royal Palace. It was incredibly cheap. We paid 80 dirhams for a 4 km-s drive (not even 80 cents). The driver was so funny and he loved us. I have to add that we realized that everyone loved us. Not because we are blond, pretty or just different, but we also learned some Moroccan words and they appreciated it so much.
After we took another red taxi to the famous Bab Boujeloud (Blue Gate) where you can access Talaa Kebeera – a massive street which is going into the middle of the Medina. You will find lines of souks, shops, arts & crafts will feast your eyes while the experience itself is like stepping into a time machine, whisking you right back to old Fez with immense charm.
We had an amazing brunch in Cafe Clock for 44 dirhams with an amazing staff and atmosphere. the place was spened by a former maître d’ in London, Briton Michael Richardson has created a great resting place for travelers in the heart of Fez’s medina. Café Clock offers Arabic classes, cooking classes, traditional Moroccan music concerts and film screenings. Best of all, it has Wi-Fi!
After the brunch, we started to spend our dirhams that we had left in the Medina. We bought some souvenirs and we started our visit.
Top things to see in Fez medina in 1 Day:
Kairaouine Mosque: Some consider this the oldest university in the world, while this is definitely one of Africa’s largest mosques with the ability to host 20,000 people during prayer sessions. A Tunisian refugee Fatima el-Fihria established Kairaouine mosque established in 859. It was later expanded by Almoravides during the 12th century. Today, the mosque has been recently restored but non-Muslims cannot enter the mosque, so you can simply peek at its courtyard from the main door.
Tumblr media
Al Attarin Medersa: Built by Marinid sultan Uthman II Abu Said in 1323-5, Attarin Mderesa is a beautiful house where you can see gorgeous tile-work, carvings of Arabic woodwork and calligraphy on walls. This is a peaceful and lovely experience if you’re a fan of architecture and Arabic craftsmanship. Unfortunately, it was under construction when we arrived there.
Chouara Tannery & Fes el Bali: It’ll be a stinky experience but a total must-do! Bring a scarf or find a local who will bring you one of the rooftops and give you some mint for the smell. Fez is famous for its leather goods and the sight of tanneries has become a renowned must-see in every guidebook. Chouara Tannery is located 20-30 minutes by foot from the Blue Gate.
Tumblr media
During our visit we saw a lot of nice fountains, mosques, museum, rijads and, places that you can’t really find on the internet. Fez Medina has 200 small narrow streets, it is easy to get lost, but if you follow your route then it isn’t that difficult to find your way back. If we could make it, then you can make it too. Sometimes, we also asked some locals in the small shops, and they were very helpful. You can ask them, but just don’t ask the random people in street. they will probably ask tip from you. You also have to avoid the fake tour guides. You will find a couple of them close to the blue gate.
Overall, we felt that Fez is much more relaxed and safe than Marrakesh. We were also dressed up properly with a pashmina and probably we also got used to the confusing or even rude comments on the streets. I can affirm that we were more careful with everything, but we also felt that the people are nicer and more helpful than in Marrakesh. The Medina was also very chaotic and overcrowded with people, donkeys, cats and, horses, but at least there weren’t any scooters like in Marrakesh. That was crazy.
Money: 1 euros= 11 dirham (more or less). It is better if you pay everything by dirhams, and you can also withdraw cash from the local ATM-s. You can’t really pay anything by credit card, si i would recommend you to have enough cash with you.
Useful Moroccan and Berber phrases:
English Transcribed Moroccan Arabic Moroccan Darija in the Arabic Alphabet Yes Iyyeh / ah / wah إييه/ آه/واه No Lla لا Please (addressing a singular) 3afak عافاك Thanks Shokran شكرا I love you (addressing a singular) Kanbghik كنبغيك I miss you (addressing a singular) Twe77eshtek توحشتك A lot Bezzaf بزاف A little Shwiya شوية Okay Wakha واخا Now Daba دابا Not now Mashi daba ماشي دابا Or Awla أولا And W و It’s not a problem / It’s okay Mashi moshkil ماشي مشكل (It was) not me Mashi ana ماشي أنا I want… Bghit… بغيت… I don’t want… Ma bghitsh… …ما بغيتش I am done / I finished Salit ساليت I am not done / I did not finish Ma salitsh ما ساليتش Beautiful (masculine, singular) Zwin زوين Bad/ugly (masculine, singular) Khayb خايب Good (masculine, singular) Mezyan مزيان
… and of course, our favorite one was: “Yalla, yalla! ” means let’s go, come on or hurry up.
In a couple of days, I will also upload an after movie of our trip.
For further questions, please contact me!:)
Let the unicorn be with you!🦄
Yalla, yalla Morocco Desert Experience: Marracesh-Sahara-Fez  Day 1: The chaotic Marrakesh Yesterday we arrived in Marrakesh around 9.30. The airport was a stunning architectural building.

8 Essential Things to Know Before Your First Trip to Senegal
Traveling to underdeveloped countries can be a daunting endeavor, but the positive things — like fresh, cultural insights, friendly locals and affordable prices — often outweigh any possible complications. The Senegalese people are excited to share their beautiful culture with tourists and treat visitors with the utmost respect, so once you get all the essentials down, I have no doubt you’ll have a wonderful vacation like I did. Here’s what you need to know before your first trip to this incredible country.
1. There’s No Need to Cover Up
Senegal is a majority-Muslim country, but you don’t need to worry about covering your knees, head or shoulders in most areas. In larger villages and cities, most local women don’t wear a hijab, and you won’t be showing disrespect by not covering up like you might in parts of India, Malaysia or the Middle East. In fact, many local women prefer traditional Senegalese dresses — exposing their neck and arms — or modern clothing like shorts and skirts. When ladies do cover their heads, it’s typically not for religious purposes, but to shield them from the intense African sun. Bottom line: dressing as you normally would in a hot, humid climate, like wearing shorts and a tank top, won’t elicit stares or make you feel uncomfortable here.
These women are all wearing more traditional dress, but just as many women here wore modern clothing as well. Image by the author.
2. Don’t Worry, Senegal is Safe
Senegal is known for being a safe country, and while visitors — especially female solo travelers — should take the typical precautions you would when traveling alone, visiting solo here shouldn’t present any big problems. The locals are friendly, and robberies and violent crime against tourists are pretty uncommon.
After chatting with this gentleman, I headed over to his restaurant, where he prepared a meal of fresh fish for me. Image by the author.
3. Brush Up on Your French
Few locals speak English in Senegal. Instead, you’ll hear a mix of Wolof and French. During my travels, I only occasionally encountered guides or drivers who spoke even a little bit of English — it’s slightly more common to find people who might speak some Italian, Spanish or even German, thanks to a recent rise in European tourism. People will usually try their best, especially if you start with a friendly “Bonjour,” but knowing a few key words in French can be useful, too.
Being able to say a few words in French was really helpful when I inquired about the Senegalese custom of pouring coffee back and forth between two cups before drinking it, pictured here. Image by the author.
4. Hire a Guide for Tours and Excursions
While I’ll typically run from guided tours in most countries, it can be helpful to hire a guide if you plan to tour Dakar or take excursions, especially if your French is on the weak side. For a reliable, English-speaking guide, I’d recommend contacting Moussa (+221 779180534, [email protected]), or for a reliable Spanish-speaking guide, Luna (+221 774379252, [email protected]). If you’d prefer to go the agency route for excursions, check out Nouvelles Frontières, a reputable company that has locations at the Dakar Airport (DKR), city center and in Saly.
As infrastructure and roads aren’t great and traffic is maddening (since there are few rules), it’s best to hire a driver rather than renting a car or hopping on an over-packed bus. Prices for both guides and drivers are extremely low, and you can always try to strike a bargain. Many times locals — who are kind, but persistent —will try to sell you things or convince you to enter their stores or restaurants, so traveling with a guide will ensure you won’t be hassled too much. Some drivers and guides will accept euros as well, so if you have any laying around, bring them along.
Having a guide to explain the history of Île de Gorée in English was really helpful. Image by the author.
5. Be Prepared for Anything and Everything
Though a yellow fever vaccine isn’t required to enter Senegal, it’s recommended, as are malaria pills and a typhoid vaccine. Using a good mosquito repellent, carrying tissues (as toilet paper can be scarce in public spots) and wearing sunblock are all essential. It can also be extremely dusty during the dry season, so having allergy pills on hand can also be helpful. Don’t be alarmed to see horse carts, roaming goats and cows as well as buses packed with locals all sharing the same dirt roads with cars and pedestrians — this is normal.
A typical bus in Dakar. Don’t be alarmed to see more people than you could ever imagine fitting inside pouring out of one. Image by the author.
6. Get Ready for an Adventurous Airport Experience
Many international flights from the US and Europe flying into Léopold Sédar Senghor International Airport (DKR) arrive in the middle of the night between 2:00am and 4:00am. Exhausted and jet lagged, you’ll find it’s not a bad idea to have a driver waiting for you to avoid being accosted by locals offering taxi services and having to haggle over prices in French. Most hotels either have a pick-up included or can arrange one for you at an additional cost. Either of the guides mentioned above as well as the Nouvelles Frontières agency can also organize a pick-up for you.
There’s also a stand at the airport for Orange, a cell-phone service provider where you can buy local SIM cards to use with an unlocked phone. The stand is open all night and you’ll typically pay between $10 to $30 for a card offering 2 GB to 10 GB of internet, as well as local calls and texts. Just know that 4G isn’t usually available in Senegal, and sometimes you won’t even have access to a 3G network depending on your location. You’ll also get a decent exchange rate here, so changing money at the change bureau near baggage claim is definitely worth it.
You should also expect long lines at immigration, lots of mosquitoes, no air conditioning and crummy restroom facilities. The airport, like the rest of Senegal, is a work in progress and even the lounge isn’t like what you’d expect to see at your average international airport. On the bright side, LaGuardia Airport (LGA) will seem so much nicer after you visit DKR.
DKR airport looks decent on the outside, but inside the floors are dirty and ceiling tiles are missing. Image by the author.
7. Chow Down and Enjoy Great Tunes
Senegal is known for its happening music scene and delicious cuisine. Traditional eats like thiebou dieune (savory rice with fresh fish) are often accompanied by live African drumbeats or reggae jams at practically every dining establishment. Beachfront dining is relaxing and cheap, so visit Le N’Gor in Dakar for marinated shrimp and a crisp glass of wine. You can have a full meal of barbecued fresh-fish skewers, salad and Gazelle beer for under $10 at Chez Poulo in Saly alongside live guitar and typical Wolof tunes. If you’re craving live music, the outdoor stage at Just 4 U is practically an institution in Dakar, featuring many different styles of music.

8. Enjoy All the Beauty That Senegal Has to Offer
Once you get the logistics part settled, Senegal is a gorgeous place. You can soak up the sun on the beautiful beaches of Saly or watch the boats dock in the fishing town of M’Bour. Birdwatchers will love the lagoon beach set among mangroves in Somone. Once you get tired of watching countless pelicans swoop in and out of the water, chill out at the Paradise Rasta Bar on the beach. While bargaining at Dakar’s many markets — like Marche Sandaga — isn’t for the faint of heart, you can find great deals on traditional African housewares, fabric and even fruits and snacks there. Families should take a morning safari to see giraffes, zebras, rhinos and crocodiles roam the savannah at the Bandia Nature Reserve. A visit to Île de Gorée — an island that’s home to the Maison des Esclaves, a memorial to the trans-Atlantic slave trade — is a somber but important experience and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Just outside Dakar, Lac Rose (also called Lake Retba) is a salt lake separated from the ocean by giant sand dunes where you can float in the super-salty water, rent a quad and drive around or chat with the locals about how they excavate the salt. The lake actually looks pink thanks to an excess of the Dunaliella salina bacteria, which thrives on high salinity. The bacteria produces a pink color in order to absorb the sunlight, hence its name, Pink Lake.
