This part of Polygondwanaland Chapter 3 is, in the first half, a summary of the events that proceeded after Loyalty, and in the second half, the journey of an eyeless man on his search for the Fourth Color in tetrachromats.
It goes into striking but subtle detail of the events that came directly after the revolt ended. Revolters and Loyalists burnt to a crisp but still alive, roaming the lands without skin, or even genitalia.
And the torment the survivor dealt with after the ordeal, I can't begin to imagine what it would be like if I were in that situation, or even questioned what happened. How did he get his eyes gouged out? How did he live? How could he see the god that guided him to Tetrachomacy? It's questions like this that remind me how great of a song this is.

Also there’s a couple of songs (Inner Cell and Loyalty) from King Gizzard’s latest album which really remind me of The Crimson King and his minions in the Dark Tower series (Stephen King) that I’m reading rn. And I know that the Crimson King WAS named that in reference to King Crimson... another prog band, which I’m almost certain must be a huge influence on King Gizz. I find the full circle oddly satisfying, even though the connection between the lyrics of those King Gizz songs and the Dark Tower series is a little tenuous and probably just me.
It’s as if my life right now is being dominated by prog rock and this very strange sci-fi/thriller/Western novel series, The Dark Tower, and the two things are very oddly managing to entwine around each other

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard are back with ‘Polygondwanaland’
Brian Rhatigan
The Aussie rockers are back, though they have not been gone long. With their fourth album of the year (or fifth), King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard bring new synths and riffs to the table. The album is completely free to download, press, and burn, as the band does not own any of the rights to the album. A ten song nostalgic trip, Polygondwanaland has the sound of a woodland adventure, but the feel of an 80’s synth rock band. An orchestra of synths, and Stu MacKenzie’s melancholic voice, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard prove that even by releasing four albums in one year (so far), any sound can be new and great.
Crumbling Castle, the first song on the album, is a ten-minute epic. Similar to Rattlesnake, an earlier release from this year, the words “Crumbling Castle” are repeated throughout the song, but this time not to annoyance. Heavy synths and fantastic vocals are all-inclusive. Like any King Gizzard song, the guitar track is mind-blowing. Clean riffs and clean synths enhance the listener’s experience throughout the entire ten minutes. Crumbling Castle is clearly the best song on the album due to its creativeness and vibe.
The next three songs form a trio that leads to each other. Polygondwanaland, The Castle in The Air, and Deserted Dunes Welcome Weary Feet all have a dominating guitar backing tracks that enhances the sound, but the still noticeable synths make these songs great. Polygondwanaland shows aspects of the band’s Australian roots, with rustic riffs and distinctive synths. The Castle in The Air is similar to Crumbling Castle, in the sense that it has darker synths and a more dreamy aspect, while Deserted Dunes Welcome Weary Feet is a lighter, more guitar driven song.
Inner cell, loyalty, and horology all feed into each other. This trio has a very ominous sound. They can be best described as the climax of a film or anything of that sort. Arguably the weakest songs on the album in the sense of creativity, but still shows signs of a mediocre tune. The last three songs on the album show nothing in common. Tetrachromacy and Searching… are mediocre songs, but The Fourth Color is a masterpiece. Completely different from the rest of the album in the sense of mood. It has a more upbeat sound, which brings a breath of fresh air to the listener. Overall, the entire album is fantastic and shows very few signs of weakness, just like the entirety of King Gizzard’s discography.
Regarding the release your own album deal, Stu MacKenzie is quoted as saying,“To be completely honest with you, I don’t think we really thought this through. Or a lot of aspects of it, at least. We just thought, ‘Yeah, wouldn’t it be interesting if we did that?’ And we did it.” (NME) Many listeners are comparing the method of this release to the method of release Radiohead used regarding ‘In Rainbows’ in the sense of how new this method is. King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard are known for their trailblazing techniques, which listeners hope they keep bringing to the table.

[Polygondwanaland 1st listen rant continued]
Ok the last two songs, Inner Cell and Loyalty, have made me emotional even though I can hardly tell what they’re about due to being bad at picking up lyrics.  I’m just sat here almost tearful because they speak to me so much. It’s so amazing and beautiful somehow. I felt like this upon first hearing the opening track of the album, Crumbling Castle, which was released early; I immediately felt that it was somehow filling a missing part of my soul. Now the rest of the album is just... It just gets me somehow. It’s so amazing. Oh my god.
I have no idea why this particular King Gizzard album seems to have such power over me
