actually this post is about TWO specific someones... and i had to block one of them because they dont tag their shit well at all! i have the cassarian tag and tangled oc content blocked and i was still getting it because of THEM. so they wont see this but i still have a need to complain because im really annoyed with how normalized pedophilic shipping is in this fandom

I am glad vat7k never became a thing because a) Disney sucks balls b) shit would’ve been SO cishet due to its proximity to a major Disney franchise and c) the fanon is so much fun.

However, it would be funny if it did exist so that I could ignore it the same way I do tts canon.

But like, the fandom doesn’t really do Nuru justice (I’m guilty of this too) and I know FOR A FACT that Disney would be worse about it. Also, I’m deathly afraid of how anything interesting about Varian would have likely been ignored for the sake of keeping this shit sanitized.

Basically, I have zero desire to see a pg, squeaky clean, marketable vat7k. Therefore, I am quite pleased that the concept and characters were just thrown to the fandom as a little treat.

And if you do want pg clean vat7k, that exists too! But I can be held no higher than the exploratory shit that a lot of us get up to.

Essentially, fandom free for all = cool. Making vat7k canon = most likely increased discourse over what headcanons and interpretations are valid as if we don’t already have enough of that.

Also Kay and Anna don’t really have any interest in making it anymore so why are some of yall still pushing

So, i've seen some discourse over Rapunzel as a character. Some people love her, some people hate her. I know a lot of people just say the people who hate her are just Varian fans who can't see that he did some bad stuff too. But I think there's more to it than that.

Lets begin with what I think is wrong with Rapunzel as a character. I think the writers of the show didn't want to let Rapunzel make/be punished for mistakes, even when objectively wrong. This likely stems from wanting to make the show little-kid friendly, even though that isn't very good messaging. So it's not just that Varian fans can't see that Rapunzel was under a lot of pressure, it's that the writers didn't do a good job of making her seem like a real person who has consequences.

Her main story arcs are 1. Become comfortable with the idea of being queen and 2. Become comfortable with marrying Eugene. However, they don't seem like main character arcs. They're only mentioned in a few episodes, the queen arc is completely dropped in season 2, and the show doesn't really talk about the reason she's uncomfortable with these things other than in short talks with Eugene. Also, while the Eugene arc is closed by Rapunzel proposing, the queen arc isn't fully closed because she never actually becomes queen.

Main character arcs should have some sort of connection with the main villains arcs. That makes a story more enjoyable and feel more real. The Eugene arc has nothing to do with any villain, but let's look at the queen one.

The main villains are Zhan Tiri, Varian, and Cassandra. Zhan Tiri doesn't have an arc, she barely has a personality other than evil. Varian's arc is good, but gets cut off. Cassandra's arc could be good, but they made it be about blaming baby Rapunzel for mother Gothel abandoning Cassandra, and how Cassandra thinks her real mom actually loved her, despite everything pointing to the contrary, and Cassandra already having a loving father.

Zhan Tiri doesn't have anything to do with the queen arc, she would have done the same thing if Rapunzel had been a peasant. Varian and Cassandra have a bit more to do with the queen arc, Rapunzel didn't help Varian because she was trying to be a good queen, and her being a princess drove a wedge between her and Cassandra.

There is a much better arc for Rapunzel than either of these. Not to say that they shouldn't happen, I think they make sense for her character and should happen, I just think there should be something more.

I think she should have to learn how to be a good friend.

Lets go back. Rapunzel was in a tower for 18 years, her only friends were an abusive mother figure, and a lizard. She doesn't know how to be a good friend. There is no way she could know. The movie didn't go over this, and I'm not blaming it, that movie took place over like, two days. But the show was over 3 years. They should have brought it up.

Rapunzel should have to learn how to be a good friend. She should make mistakes, accidentally hurt people, be a bad friend because she doesn't know how to be a good one. She wouldn't do it on purpose, she's a genuinely nice person, she wants to be a good friend, she just doesn't know how.

Lets see how it fits the villains.

Varian became a villain because Rapunzel was a bad friend to him. Great. Cassandra (in a better version where she didn't think Gothel ever loved her cause that's stupid) became a villain because Rapunzel was a bad friend. Perfect. Zhan Tiri can use the bad friend angle to manipulate Cassandra way easier, and this arc can be incorporated into every episode way easier than the others.

I think the reason they didn't do this was because they were trying to make Rapunzel a good role-model for children, and having her be a bad friend, even if she learns from it might make little kids be bad friends. The show was trying to be at the level of storytelling and lore of owl house or gravity falls, but they were also trying to be okay for 4-year-olds, and it wasn't gonna work.

Please don’t block, I’m just curious. I just wanted to share my thoughts. I just wanted to know if you know the origin of the weird Varian height thing. I know this is a really sensitive subject for you, but I’m genuinely confused as to why there is so much discourse around this subject, especially since I haven’t even thought of Varians adult height as an issue before it was brought up. I just kinda assumed he’d end up not looking that different to how he looks as a kid, maybe a little taller and broader shouldered, but not that different from how he looks in S3 since he’s like 17. Like the concept of Varian for Vat7K, where a young adult Varian is lined up next to his S1 and S3 self, and you can tell he’s a little bit more mature.

I honestly have no idea how it started, because I care so very little about the subject that I have been fastidiously ignoring it except when it comes directly into my inbox.

I'm just sick to death of hearing about it, and I hate that there's at least one person out there who harasses people because of their opinions on the matter.

I think everybody should be allowed to headcanon whatever they like.

But I don't like people shoving headcanons onto other's who don't like them.

Thanks to that stupid af height discourse, everybody hates the hc that Varian might grow taller than Eugene.

Yeah, there's nothing wrong with the headcanon itself.

I mean, I'm saying this as someone who personally doesn't like that headcanon, because I headcanon him as taller than Rapunzel, but shorter than Eugene.

But I do understand everyone has their own headcanons when it comes to these sorta things and it's mainly the people who are literally obsessed with tall Varian and bother others about it that give a bad rep to this headcanon, when most people just wanna have fun with it in peace.

Like, just let people headcanon what they want, the important thing is you don't enforce them on others.

Why is one headcanon so hated? What's the problem with Varian growing tall?

It's not that the headcanon is hated. It's that the Tall Varian anon won't let it lie. They won't leave people alone. They ask everyone they can think of what their thoughts on the headcanon are. They request free fanart of it.

There's nothing wrong with having a headcanon, but seriously, leave people alone about it. We don't want to hear it anymore. This has been going on for ages. The Tall Varian anon is like a Mormon missionary or Jevoha's witness knocking on your door. No one asked you to try to sell your religion to us.

Incidentally, please don't ask me about this again. I am 100% uninterested in this discourse.

I think it started as one but now they have multiplied. There are at least three of them now.

Once the fandom became aware of the anons we stopped responding and the discourse faded. But as new members joined they were unaware of the anons and fell for their bait causing a return of the anons. Hence this ask and subsequent post.

So just a warning to new members:

IF SOMEONE IS ASKING YOU ABOUT TALL VARIAN IT IS MOST LIKELY A TROLL AND YOU SHOULD NOT INTERACT. IF THEY START HARASSING YOU OR THREATENING YOU THEN TURN OFF ANONYMOUS ASKS OR TURN OFF ASKS ALTOGETHER.

But also note that not everyone who likes tall Varian is a troll and you should treat them with respect and kindness.

One last thing, VAT7K is unique in a way that allows anyone to do anything they want with the characters and stories. If you want Varian to be tall or short that's up to you, just don't be a dick about it.

The discourse was right. Wrathion is delusional to believe Anduin still considers him a friend. First and foremost because Anduin never treated him as an equal.

Anduin and Wrathion have similar backstories, both taking on adult responsibilities far too young. Except Wrathion was even younger, and Anduin had the added benefit of a royal court to advise him.

He didn't make huge decisions. He didn't have to. The most we hear about Anduin doing while Varian's missing is allocating funding to the royal library.

Wrathion was expected to prove he was worthy of life to both the red flight and all the mortal races. He was born and raised on the fringes of society, more specifically raised in a secluded manor full of assassins. The red flight came to kill him anyway.

In Mists of Pandaria, Anduin can barely talk to Wrathion without bringing up Wrathion's age, or his race, or how he doesn't trust him. We have maybe one example of what might be Anduin giving him "advice," if you squint.

Remember too, Wrathion has nothing to rule over. And nothing to do with his time except, again, try to prove himself.

Anduin's already had a lifetime of political education at this point. If this is the only advice he ever gives Wrathion, who's been alive for two years and, again, was raised by assassins while hiding from dragons... it's just not fair to call that a friendship.

Friends don't set each other up to fail.

Let's say everything Anduin ever said about Wrathion was right. That Wrathion's criminally incompetent, at least in part because of his age. That Varian's dead because of Wrathion.

Who was Wrathion's closest companion?

Who, out of everyone, had the best chance of getting through to him?

Anduin could have prevented his father's death, if he was only willing to show compassion and respect to Wrathion the same way he did for Garrosh and Sylvanas.

Varian should be taller than Eugene.

They are basically the same height, not that it matters. Thats not what I focus on in my art. I simply have a story to tell, where Varian happens to be older.

Im aware of the politics with height in the fandom at the moment and Im putting my foot down to say right now I want no part of it. Let people have their own headcanons and draw what they want. This discourse is dumb so leave me out of it.
