plot: you were sick and Sanji just wants you to feel better
a/n: I kNoW! this is different from my usual work but i couldn't get this out of my head
pairing: opla!sanji x fem!reader
***
It was a typical morning on the Going Merry. The sun was out and the weather felt great. However, you were lounging around on a shaded part of the ship due to recovering from a fever, but you felt better to not be in bed.
You laid on your back, eyes fluttered shut and felt the cool breeze. The green haired swordsman seemed to have the same idea as you, as he was napping a few feet away. Of course, when was he not?
You make out the laughter of Luffy and Usopp as you can also hear them running around on the hard wood being the rambunctious boys they were.
In a split second, your serene ambiance became disrupted.
Usopp had taken out his slingshot, aiming to hit Luffy with one of his shots. He missed, as Luffy dodged it quickly. This resulted in whatever Usopp slung to hit the wood above you.
All you heard was something crack and the fight or flight response in you made you open your eyes and overturn to get out of the way of the falling debris.
At that moment, Sanji was coming up the stairs. He stopped in his tracks, taking in the sight in front of him.
Usopp and Luffy standing there. The broken wood. You, off to the side of the impact, holding your chest as you attempted to catch your breath.
The boys were still laughing, as they hadn’t even realized you were there.
The blonde cook’s eyes widened in horror as he put two and two together, and he marched over, fuming.
“Ha ha! You missed me!” exclaimed Luffy.
“You idiots!” He swung his powerful leg with no hesitation, socking both of them into the ship’s mast.
“Ow.” They simultaneously winced.
Zoro opened one eye to see what all the commotion was about, then sighed as it was nothing out of the ordinary.
“What the hell are you doing? You could’ve hurt Y/N.”
Usopp and Luffy look over in your direction to see you getting up and brushing off your clothes.
“Sorry.”
“Yeah, my bad.” Usopp said as he rubbed his head.
Sanji turned his attention to you, his demeanor softening as he approached. “Are you alright? I couldn’t stand to see harm come to a lovely lady like yourself.”
“I’m good.” You smiled warmly and he couldn’t help but blush in response.
***
The crew returned to their usual antics and you were in your room, consumed by a good book.
There was a soft knock on the door.
“Come in.”
Inside stepped Sanji, holding a tray with a cold drink on top.
“Would the madam like something to drink?”
“Sure.” You said, putting the book on the beside table and sitting up to get more comfortable.
He offered it to you with pride and you took a sip as he sat down on the edge of the bed next to you.
The drink was some sort of herbal tea.
"mmm." you voiced. "This is amazing."
"You think so?"
You nodded and took another sip, savoring the taste. "Is that hibiscus?"
"How'd you know?"
"Well you're not the only one who knows flavors."
He let out a soft laugh. "I'm glad you like it. I also made it cold in hopes to bring down your temperature. How are you feeling by the way, sweetheart?" He asked and put the back of his hand against your forehead.
"I'm actually doing a lot better."
His eyes sparkled with delight at your words. With a playful grin, he then gently placed his hands on your cheeks, using them to check for any linger signs of that fever. He couldn't help himself. He was always ready to engage in a little flirtation.
You giggled at his touch, a blush tinting your cheeks. "What are you doing?"
"Just seeing if your temperature went down. A chef's duty extends beyond the kitchen, you know."
Your laughter bubbled up in response. "I appreciate the thorough examination."
And you did mean it. You're heart fluttered at the fact that he cared.
Sanji released his hold, his grin undeniably charming. "You're in good health. But shall you need anything from me again, don't hesitate to call."
You thanked him and he turned to walk out. But much as you enjoyed him, maybe it was time to talk to Luffy about getting an actual doctor on board. Just a thought.

~ Migraines S.R ~
summary: Y/N suffers with chronic migraines so when Spencer starts to suffer with them Y/N offers to help
pairing: Spencer Reid x Reader
warnings: pain, migraines
word count: 1,281
a/n: Requests are open! Prompt list is there if you guys want extra ideas!
Master-List - Prompts
Thankfully the case in Miami, Florida didn't take them too long but that didn't stop the light and the whole case from affecting Spencer's migraines more and more. Everyone seemed to notice at different times but no one knew how to help him so they just asked if he needed anything and when he said no they silently agreed and just tried to make him as comfortable as possible. Finally, when they landed Spencer stepped off the plane first with the sunglasses still on his face, he didn't have his doctor's appointment until tomorrow so for tonight he just had to cope, that was until his guardian angel stepped off the plane too and quietly walked over to him. Y/N gently placed her hand on his shoulders so as not to alarm him.
"Hey Spence," She spoke in a whisper, "I've noticed your head seems to be getting worse. If you're okay with it, do you wanna come to mine and I'll take care of you tonight? I'm pretty good dealing with migraines." Y/N just smiled at Spencer to let him know the choice was completely up to him. Spencer could be weird sometimes about touch and being taken care of but these migraines had taken all his strength so he just nodded and ducked his head into Y/N's car without a word. Y/N knew exactly what migraines were like so she wasn't fazed at all. Before getting into the car Y/N put on a huge jumper and pulled a blanket out of the trunk which she placed on Spencer.
"What is this for?" Spencer asks, it comes out at barely a whisper because of how exhausted his body and mind is.
"Good way to cool your head down to stop it feeling so warm without you freezing to death." Y/N smiled while turning the AC to freezing and opening the windows in the car. Thankfully the weather was quite cold and the drive to Y/N house was a good 10-minute drive. Y/N turned off the radio and took off driving not speaking giving Spencer time to just relax with the cool AC and the outside weather hitting his face, making him almost sleepy with the calm. Y/N gently shook Spencer back awake as they were finally in the car park and he stirred awake with a half-smile on his face. Y/N wanted to keep conversation to a minimum just so Spencer didn't have to concentrate on anything and he can just relax finally.
Once they were in Y/N's apartment she walked around and closed all the curtains and even though it was light outside there was not a speck of light anywhere to be seen in the apartment which confused Spencer and he just looked at Y/N confusion written all over his face
"Oh, I get migraines too so I have blackout curtains in every room." Y/N said with a smile while walking to the kitchen "Now if you wanna get changed in my room and then just lay down on the couch."
Spencer didn't know why but he also didn't have the energy to question everything Y/N told him to do, he trusted that she knew how to handle what was happening to him. He did exactly what she said and as Spencer got changed Y/N ran 2 face cloths underneath running water then placed them into the top drawer of her freezer then proceeded to make tea how Spencer normally has it, with about 4 sugars in it, and some plain biscuits. By the time the tea had brewed Spencer had come back from getting changed and he sat on the couch, still feeling slightly awkward being in Y/N's house for the first time.
"So here is some super sweet tea, which is basically how you normally have it, and some plain biscuits. The tea is because caffeine always helps with my migraines and it's nicer to drink with biscuits. The biscuits are to get you some food without it being anything like cheese or meat that could upset your stomach. Since I know you'd want some facts behind it." Y/N said smiling handing Spencer his cup and biscuits while drinking her own. Spencer liked the fact that Y/N knew how to calm him down and was so willing to take care of him too. "Now you're going to take the bed while I'll take the pullout couch."
"No there's no way I can take your bed from you." Spencer rejected. He didn't want to come into her apartment to have her take care of him and also make her sleep on her couch.
"Spencer, you have a migraine and a bad one by the looks of it. The last thing you need is a pullout couch when I have a memory foam mattress and a room with fans in it for this exact occasion, now c'mon pretty boy butt in the bed." Y/N said laughing while gently tapping Spencers back towards her room. While Spencer awkwardly got into her bed Y/N walked around and turned on two fans on either side facing the bed. Spencer knew Y/N was telling the truth about how comfy the bed was the minute he laid down and let himself relax.
"You weren't lying about this bed huh?" Spencer laughed trying to make the whole situation more relaxed and he instantly relaxed when Y/N returned his retort with a small laugh.
"I was not now you wait here I'll be one second." Y/N walked back into the kitchen to get the wet face cloths from the freezer and came back into the bedroom with a little awkward smile as she walked over to Spencer. "Now this is a wet face cloth that will be very cold but it will ease the tension and heat in your head making it easier for you to sleep and this one I'm gonna put on your neck. It'll be a weird sensation but it'll take most of the heat and tension rising towards your head."
Y/N smiled as she put the face cloths on Spencer's face and neck and ran her finger up and down his face making his skin tingle at the contact. She smiled as she sat on the edge of the bed.
"Now you my love are going to sleep and I'll pop in to make sure the clothes are still cold, get some sleep, and if you need me for anything just holler I'm just through that door." Y/N placed a small kiss on Spencer's cheek before leaving him by himself to hopefully sleep. Spencer's mind was of his pain while he focused on the tingle in his cheek where Y/N had left a kiss just a second ago until he finally drifted off. Before sleeping Y/N prepped 2 more clothes and put them into the freezer before finally resting on the couch. Y/N lied about it being a pullout couch but she knew Spencer wouldn't relax if she hadn't lied.
That's how the whole night played out. Y/N had an hourly alarm set to change Spencer's clothes to make sure he could sleep and wake up comfy too. Spencer didn't know she was waking up hourly but he didn't need to know that's not why Y/N did it, she did it because she cared about him and Spencer loved knowing someone cared for him that much. It made Spencer comfier about potentially coming to Y/N in the future about his problems. He also liked that Y/N hadn't given him pain meds as she was one of the people who knew about his issues with medication. It was a safe space, and for the first night in a long time, Spencer finally slept.

The Oracle|| Concept Oneshot 4||
Here is some fluff and a slightly suggestive theme. Sorry for not posting sooner, I had slight writer's block and some stuff came up.
“See, this isn't so bad!”
You bring a small cup of coffee up to drink. It has been a while since you went to a cafe. The weather was becoming warmer as the month came to the end, soon transitioning to spring. Today, however, was just perfect to be outside and eat out. Even though it took a little bit of persuading for a certain someone to join you.
“It wouldn't be so bad if people stopped staring.”
“Nobody is staring, my little sunspot.”
Wukong huffs before taking a sip from his tea, flustered by the pet name. You just smirk at his reaction. Enjoying the time together, you guys don't really go out in public. Since Wukong prefers not to be out in the eye of the public for obvious reasons.
“Is this payback for always teasing you? Why did you choose a cafe with lots of people?!”
“Sunshine, how dare you even think that? Of course, I did this just to see you all flustered and shy. Also, this place never got this full, so I'm just as surprised as you are.” You said the last part quietly and looked away to see the busy cafe.
Wukong groans, pulling the hoodie over his face. Whilst sinking into his chair, with clear annoyance. You take a bite from your muffin and think. How can you make this time more comfortable for him? Maybe, cool it with the pet names?
Nah.
He wouldn't dare show the same mercy to you.
You stretched your leg over and lightly rubbed against his calf. His body tensed up from the sensation. It took a minute before he raised his hoodie and peeked at you.
“Hope you know, I don't mind you sleeping over for the night.”
“Oh?” He sits up with a smirk. “What is that supposed to mean, peaches?”
You put down your foot but made sure it was touching his.
“Hm? I thought it was straightforward and clear what I meant. You can stay over the night at my place.” You glance at the window, trying to keep your composure.
“I mean it is, but you were quite vague. So please tell me, what are we planning to do all night?”
Wukong’s posture was now relaxed, having placed his elbows on the table and resting his head in both his hands. Leaning forward closing the distance. You glance at him and smile softly. Silently celebrating for finally achieving your goal, of making him comfortable.
“Oh I don't know, maybe-” You lean back and pretend to think for a moment. Wukong’s smirk falters but forms a small smile instead and leans back in his chair.
“Hmm, we can watch a series of your choice and eat snacks all night!” You innocently say. He let out a chuckle.
“That sounds lovely, just know I won't let you sleep. We are going to be staying up all night.”
He takes a sip from his tea, copying your actions from earlier. You laugh at his antics.
“But you must spend the day out with me.”
“I wouldn't have it any other way.”
“Great, let's go then!”
“Huh? Wait, where are we going? I thought you just wanted to go out to a cafe!” He said with panic.
“That changed when you agreed to spend the whole day by my side. I'm not going to let this opportunity go to waste. Don't worry though-” You lean close to his ear and whisper.
“You’ll have me all night within your arms.”
Wukong shuts his mouth, face red. You worry a bit when he just stares at the spot in front of him.
Looks like you broke him.
After 2 minutes of pure silence, you could see his fur prick up as his pupils dilated.
‘Oh, that's not a good sign.’
A coo came out from him. It was deep, almost purr-like. However, just as the sound quickly came out of him, it just as quickly disappeared. He slumps over the table and groans, slowly turning into a laugh.
“Hahaha, peaches, you- nearly got me there.”
You raise an eyebrow and smirk. Usually, it was him making you flustered and shy but now it was his turn. You felt proud that you managed to get the Great Sage, himself, all riled up and out in public, no less.
“Oh, I don't know what you mean. I just want to spend time with you. Now let's go shopping, while the sun is still out.” You slowly made your way out of the cafe. Wukong follows behind, already exhausted from the earlier incident.
As much as Wukong looked indifferent about everything you show him. He was enjoying his time spent with you. It had been a while since he had gotten out. However, he can't ignore the warm feeling in his chest whenever he sees you excitedly buy things for him.
If only this day could last forever.

Okay, so I'm gonna be opening the asks now. So I can answer questions about the story or just want me to write some oneshot lmao

Party
Light appetizers, little bits of hard and soft cheese, pickles, meat or fish, onions green and red, apples and pears, jams and nut butters on crackers on plates prepared for guests on side tables lined up North and South walls.
Bit of drink in every cup. From virgin fruit punch to gin and tonics, help yourself to the bar at the East and West corners of the room. The bars are well stocked and besides them is the mix table with non alcoholic drinks if you like. The bars are East and West as the sun rises and sets, to remind you to pace yourself if you don't want a hangover.
The refreshments ring is the outside, next comes the art. Arranged according to the Seasons we have Autumn at the West, where the sun sets and the twilight transitions is best suited. I'm an Autumn baby so this is probably where you find me by default, sitting in a dark red easy chair drinking a craft beer talking about the history of the weather in influencing military campaigns. I forgot to use a coaster, so there's a ring of condensation on the coffee table. It'll leave a mark, small reminder of our times here.
North is where you find the Winter Motif, cool colours like blue snow and Evergreen pines. Air conditioning is the strongest here, but the chairs come with blankets. Hot coffee, tea, and coffee liqueur is found here, hot drinks and the faux fireplace coffee table. Talk is light and breezy, plans for the future are common and easy, now is the time to collaborate our intents and conquer the world. Seize the day, cozy and warm under woolen comfort.
To the East is Springtime, you know it and I know it. Bright colours bursting with life, earthen tones await them all the same. A balance of new life built on the decay of old. Mushrooms show signs of a life after death, their fruiting forms a peek of something hidden under the veil of the surface of the dirt. Flowers attract insects, insects attract birds and at night bats. The new buds of trees show the vulnerability of the eldest trees, and the vigor of the saplings. Drinks here are fruity and bubbly, but to be honest I might spike a peppermint tea with something stronger. The beanbag chairs lounge around a big flat leaf table, with a spilled drink dripping off the side. It's okay it's only water.
.At the South there's the biggest windows, I live in the North so that's where they go to get the best light. The spiciest snacks are here, but also the freshest fruits. A BLT is a tomato sandwich that brought friends. Is the cheese spicy or are the spices cheesy? Yes, that line always gets a laugh like "is it hot enough for ya?". Art here is focused on motion and it's shadow, fulfilling dreams and living life. What are dreams but life's shadow? I've never been one for Caesars or bloody Marys, not a tomato juice guy myself but they're popular here. I'll have a vodka and cucumber water, need something light in the direct sun. Topics of conversation are about immediacy, what we did before the party, how much we swam last week, what cliff we're taking on tomorrow. I swear on the Gods if you touch my Apollo statue again I will curse you with psychic powers, and please stop jumping over the camp fire, it's sacred. The chairs here are Muskoka chairs, Americans call them Airondraks I believe. Besides each is a cooler you can put drinks in and rest your can on the top of, no shared table here we have the fire.
In the middle of the room a spiral staircase, entrance and exit with grace.

Some Things Never Change
Here we are, on the home stretch of July.  The sun will set on my fifties in  sixty-some days.  I live in a new state, my life has changed drastically, but some things remain the same.  I’ve hit my peak tolerance for hot weather right on schedule and find myself longing for the comfort of socks and sweatshirts.  I keep my eyes peeled to see who will be first to advertise fall decor and fragrances (I see you and appreciate you, Bath & Body Works).  I watch the mail for the Halloween catalog from Grandin Road, too pricey but so much fun to thumb through.  I get excited when I see a yellow leaf on a tree, completely ignoring the fact that it probably turned yellow from the 97 degree heat and it is not, as hoped, a harbinger of autumn.  We’ve got a long way to go before we’re delighted by colorful leaves and pumpkins.  Ten days of July and all of August  stretch ahead of us in a steamy string of days. These dog days of summer are no joke. I try to keep cool in the summer by wearing a lot of dresses. This year I hit a great deal at Belk (online) and bought some super cute dresses by Crown & Ivy. I love the ruffles and bright patterns. These two are my favorites.
Tumblr media
They’re light and cool and I look exactly like that in them, not at all like a tea cozy or a Rose Bowl float.  Anyway, they’re comfy and I love ‘em.  I have plenty of other summer dresses, and I wear them around the house and in the yard.  So much cooler than anything else in my closet.
A couple of days ago I had on a sleeveless, cotton dress, several years old, and I was doing a few chores. I was in the yard pulling a few weeds and deadheading some flowers (the zinnias are finally showing off!), then went inside for a cold drink and a potty break.  Outside again, I tidied up around the mailbox, checked birdfeeders, pulled a few more weeds, filled the hummingbird feeder, etc.  Just busy work.  I realized it was nearly time to start dinner, so I headed back into the house, washed my hands, and started prepping.  I was busy chopping away at some veggies when the mister came in.  He walked up behind me and tugged at my dress and said “You’re all tucked in here...”  You guys, I had tucked my dress into my panties after my potty break AND GONE BACK OUTSIDE.  I don’t know which is worse, that the whole street saw my backside and bright pink undies, or that I’ve apparently lost all sensation in my butt cheeks.  How could I not feel that??  Since I didn’t see myself from behind I’m hoping that it was just a small corner of the dress, but I’ll never know.  My only consolation is that I wasn’t playing music while I worked, so at least I wasn’t dancing. Like I said, some things never change. On another, less embarrassing, note - I’m itching to show a before and after photos of the master bath but we’re still waiting for an installation date for the flooring.  I received this email: “ The estimated date of arrival for your product is 07/24/2023. it can take up to 7 additional days for all product to to be received. We will contact you within 2 business days after your product is received to schedule your installation. If there are any delays, we will notify you.” So the flooring, which we were assured was in stock, is not?  Are they talking about some other product, like quarter round or something I’m not familiar with? Is it weird that they wouldn’t have installation stuff in stock?  Why the heck isn’t anything ever just straight forward and easy?  I remind myself daily that I’m very fortunate that this is the minor irritant in my life.  I know that it could be much worse, but it’s still frustrating. We had to rattle their cage just to get that email telling us everything is delayed. I’m old school.  I’m from the days when customer service was exceptional and patronage was valued.  And yes, I realize that makes me sound 150 years old, I don’t care. When you hand over a wad of money it would be nice to receive even mediocre service.  Alright, enough whining.  I suppose I should so something productive, toss in some laundry or wipe down some surfaces.  This house gets dusty so much faster than the Mt. Juliet house.  I don’t know why, but you can bet if I ever figure it out I’ll put a stop to it. I hate dusting, but I hate seeing dust even more.  I’m terrible, I’ll just make a quick swipe and not move objects on a shelf.  I do better with our nightstands, but they’re easy. I have found that these makeup remover cloths (love them for my face) are fabulous at picking up dust, especially on baseboards. Makes the job much easier.
Tumblr media
There are a million different brands, these are just the ones I ordered.  They’re great - toss them in the wash and they keep their shape and fluffiness. I use them over and over and over.  They take makeup off with one swipe, and dust off a baseboard like magic. $8.99 on Amazon!  Once again my blog post has bounced all over the place (See? Some things never change!) but hopefully it provided a break in your day and maybe a smile or two.  I was recently asked why I started signing off each blog post. I spent years sharing here and never did the whole “stay safe” and “love ya’” sort of thing.  It’s because a very, very sweet person, a stranger to me, during peak pandemic days sent me an email.  This kind person said that they’d stumbled across my blog, feeling very isolated and lonely, and it was like reading a letter from a friend.  I’ve never flattered myself that this blog meant anything to anyone other than me, it’s just been a way to track our days. But since that email I’ve thought that if anyone comes across my ramblings I want them to feel like we’ve just had a chat, or they’ve gotten a newsy letter.  I’m sort of your weirdo penpal who walks around with her dress tucked into her panties but sure does hope that your day is splendid.   That’s why you’ll probably always see me end these silly posts like this. Wishing you the very best this day has to offer.  Stay safe, stay well. XOXO, Nancy

If we were dating I’d keep a an outdoor recliner and a grill out back in the garden and every time the weathers nice, I’ll set it going before you wake up in the morning to cook you a personal feast of heavy and flavourful meats. And when you rouse in the morning and wander out bleary but knowing you’ll arrive to a comfy chair, a drink and a plate to start with. I’m wearing nothing but gloves and an apron and you don’t have to lift a finger aside from to revel in the growing amount of food or pull down your boxers to make room for more. Taking breaks to close the lid and let the coal smoulder, I’ll perch on the edge of the chair and kiss you deeply, rubbing your belly and moaning into you as I feel your heft and praise your indulgence. As the sun rises high in the sky and the last of the meat is grilled, I’ll cream up your soft but swollen and overfed body with sunscreen. Rubbing cooling circles over you and gently shaking your gut. Moving to sit on you so you can feel just how wet you’ve gotten me.
God this sounds like heaven ❤️
Lazily waking up to the smell of deliciously marinated and grilled meats, making my way down to my recliner and being met with the beautiful sight of you working away in nothing but your gloves and apron, making myself comfortable with the iced tea you've already set out for me
Feeling so relaxed and taken care of with my rich, meaty breakfast of sausages, bacon, ribs, wings and more, all topped off with cool drinks and sweet touches from you all over my swollen majestic form ❤️ All I have to do is lay back and let you ride me, my belly wobbling with every movement as our eyes lock in contended lust

I was wondering what the Tenbusches favourite comfort things are? Do they have favourites foods/movies they need when they’re sick?
It was so strange to receive this when I did, because literally that exact day I was starting to ponder this very question myself in preparation for the upcoming Tenbusch fic. Anon, I think you must be a mindreader lol.
That being said, I really hadn't given this too much thought when you sent this, which is why I took so long to answer. But here is my first go-round with this question after much consideration. I included what they wear, what they eat, what they watch/listen to and other general caregiving things they like when they're sick. Obviously this list will expand as I get to know these characters more over time. In reverse age order this time, since I always make Thad go first lol. (He would say he doesn't mind, though. He's the oldest and used to being the guinea pig).
Answers got long as always, so under the cut they go:
Padma: When she's sick, more often than not it's her nose that gives her the most trouble, and she usually can't go anywhere without tissues in her pocket or in her hand. Her upper lip and septum get chapped and raw quickly, so she experiments with different salves all the time to try to alleviate this. She will immediately gravitate toward her most fluffy robe and slippers as soon as he starts to feel poorly. She also never skimps on things like tissues and medicine when she's sick, only buying the best/nicest/name brand things, wanting to be as comfortable as possible. Her biggest sick day necessity, though, is the kinds of tea she drank growing up in India. American teas would never do for her. As far as movies and things, she isn't really a sick-day TV person, since her eyes are usually achy and puffy from the congestion. She prefers podcasts and audiobooks if anything, but usually she'll just listen to music if she's bored, and again, it will usually be music from her homeland. She is the least needy and most self-sufficient when she's sick, and won't ask much from any caregiver, but she loves having company when she's not feeling well, just someone to sit and talk with her and reassure her that she's not as disgusting as she feels.
Thalia: Prone to migraines as a rule, Thalia can be guaranteed to have a throbbing head whenever she comes down with anything, and this headache usually turns into a migraine sooner or later, so all her sick day rituals center around easing head pain. She keeps lights off and rooms cool and generally stays away from loud noises and strong smells. She's not usually a tactile person, but she desperately craves to be held when she's under the weather, wants to be squeezed and wrapped up tight. If there's no one around to hold her, she'll burrito herself in a weighted blanket instead, needing the pressure sensation. A 90's kid through and through, she loves Disney movies, and these are what she gravitates to when she's sick in bed if her headache allows her to watch TV. She especially loves the ones featuring animals like the Jun/gle Boo/k and 10/1 Dal/mations. However, she swears by audiobooks as the best sick day binge. Even though she knows real orange juice is healthier, she craves the drink Sunny D as her sick day comfort, and tends to subconsciously follow the BRAT (banana, rice, applesauce, toast) diet whenever she's sick, even if it isn't stomach-related sickness, since her parents swore by this diet for all childhood illnesses, and because her migraines often make her nauseous. As far as sick-day attire, she is the proud owner of multiple Snuggies and will wear one of them with fleece-lined leggings for the duration of any illness.
Audra: She is the True Crime junkie of the lot, and this is especially obvious when she's sick. When asked about it once, she said that when her life sucks she likes to watch scary, brutal things to remind her that life could suck a whole lot more. Cri/minal Min/ds is her go-to since she owns the whole series on DVD, but if she's bored of those she'll happily try any of the numerous true crime/serial killer specials that are streaming, or if here eyes hurt too much for TV, she'll listen to true crime podcasts. When she feels like death warmed over, you can almost guarantee she'll be watching or listening to stuff about death. For attire, she will wear her husband's clothes almost exclusively when she's under the weather, and her brother-in-laws' too, when she can get her hands on them. (She's especially fond of Thad's. He is roughly the same height as her, but more muscular, so his clothes are always soft and loose on her.) When she's sick, she goes into sloth mode and doesn't want to move or even stand unless she absolutely has to, so she'll be found lying down the entire time she's feeling poorly. She will cuddle up gladly against anyone who sits near her, though. As far as food and drink, anything warm is what she wants, since nothing bothers her more when she's sick than her throat being sore. Hot tea, hot coffee, hot soup, hot pasta (in temperature as well as spice usually) are her go-tos, but she'll throw in ice cream and popsicles to mix it up if hot things aren't helping her throat for whatever reason.
Theo: As we all know, he is very familiar with being sick, so he has his sick day routine down to a science. Firstly, he always has his trusty water bottle by his side and is always drinking from that or a thermos of tea, because he knows from experience that he'll feel much worse if he gets dehydrated. Secondly, he will immediately don his robe, fleece-lined flannel, and not take it off until he's feeling better. In the midst of his illnesses, if he's not in bed he can usually be found either curled up next to a heat source, or else sitting by a window in the sunlight like a cat. When he's sick, more than anything he wants to be warm, and he firmly believes in the restorative effects of sunlight. Theo's favorite food in the world is pancakes, so when he's especially under the weather, his family will usually make these to cheer him up and help him feel better. He's also a connoisseur of grilled cheese and tomato soup as we've seen, and he has strong opinions about this meal, so his sanctioned brands and ingredients are always stocked in the pantry. As far as media, the romantic and tender-hearted Theo has a huge soft spot for musicals. The rest of his family thinks they're sappy and silly, so they only agree to watch them with him when he's feeling crummy, and he takes full advantage of this. Strangely enough, Christmas-themed musicals are his favorite, so Holiday Inn, Scrooge, and White Christmas are always on rotation, but he also loves to watch Singin' in the Rain, knowing Gene Kelly was ghastly ill when singing the titular song, and in a pinch really any musical will do, as he's seen most of them. Even if he's too sick to actively watch TV, he likes to turn on musicals anyway, because you don't have to watch to understand what's going on usually. But if he's just listening to music, then 90's easy listening is his comfort media.
Thad: That doesn't get sick often, but when he does it hits him fast and hard, and he tends to spike dramatically high fevers when he's sick with anything. His symptoms tend to be very explosive in general, from ear-shattering coughing and sneezing to... anything else. (For this reason and others, Thad is the LAST person that anyone would want to catch a stomach bug.) His preferred seating is beanbag chairs (because they're easiest on his back, which gives him trouble after years of playing contact sports) and there are several scattered around the house, so as soon as he starts feeling poorly he will curl up in one of these and not move until he's better, sleeping and eating there as much as he possibly can. Thad is by far the crabbiest of the family when he's sick, and until he's recovered he actively pushes everyone away except for his partner, from whom he seeks a little extra attention. JB learns over time that Thad does best if he's given a steady supply of gentle attentiveness when he's sick, just being checked on and fussed over in regular, measured doses. Thad has a collection of "I'm not feeling well" cardigans that he likes to wear, and interestingly he'll usually be found in knitted caps as well if he has to leave his nest, especially when his hair starts thinning as he ages. Thad loves peanut butter sandwiches of any kind (with honey, with bananas, with jelly) when he's not feeling well, along with, strangely enough, pickles and frozen pickle juice pops. If he wants hot food, he'll gravitate toward childhood favorites like Spaghetti-O's and cheap, prepackaged Ramen Noodles. He doesn't quit his coffee habit when sick, insisting it's one of the only things that helps him feel better (since he hates tea) but he does keel it back a good deal. He'll even drink decaf if a bad fever has his heart rate up, just as long as he can have the taste and warmth. A self-professed audiophile, Thad listens to a lot of music, and this is especially true when he's sick. Whether it's through his fancy, expensive headphones or fancy, expensive stereo, or fancy, expensive turntable, he always has something playing. He says being feverish actually heightens the experience of listening to music (though it can give him very strange dreams), so he'll often use sick days as a chance to explore artists he hasn't heard yet. He avoids TV as a rule whether he's sick or not, and if he's in a room where one is playing, he insists that someone else picks something he'll find boring so he can fall asleep.
JB: With his huge lung capacity, JB gets the most awful cough with any sort of respiratory ailment, worse even than Theo, loud and harsh and huge and frequent, so easing the coughing is always his biggest goal of any sickness, especially as he gets more prone to bronchitis as he ages. The coughing also tends to make his ribs and chest and abdomen miserably sore, which never fails to radiate out to his extremities, so he's an achy mess whenever he's sick. For this reason, Vick's is always in good supply in their home, as well as IcyHot, Bengay, and all the others, not to mention plenty of heating pads and heated blankets. More than anything, when he's sick he gets utterly exhausted and just wants to sleep. He'll sleep 2/3 or 3/4 of the day if he's able, like a bear in hibernation. Since he's so exhausted, he has minimal appetite whenever he's sick, so food is generally the last thing on his mind. However, he has a special fondness for hot cereals, like Cream of Wheat and oatmeal, with plenty of sugar and cream, and loves fruit juice, so he'll have these as a splurge when he's sick, since he considers them too unhealthy to have under normal circumstances. Because he's so tall and broad (6'5", 250 lbs), for most of his adult life, finding clothes that would be "loose" on him isn't easy without special ordering everything. For that reason, his comfort clothes/sick day attire is mostly comprised of close-fitting thermal wear (think Under Armour, etc) and the occasional pair of fleece or flannel pajama pants. He and Thalia are much alike in that they aren't overly tactile as a rule, but when sick, they love their partner's arms around them and being held close. Eventually, JB also comes to crave a deep massage to help his aches when he's feeling poorly, and Thad takes pride in mastering the technique of massage over time.
Anon, thank you for sending this ask and forcing me to consider this question and write out the answer. It was a lovely exercise and every time I get one of these I feel like I know the characters so much better after! All the best to you, and feel free to send more questions if you have them. The next Tenbusch fic is almost finished and should be out in a few more weeks :) Can't wait to hear your thoughts!

Hot Weather Tips
Hot weather tips from your friendly Floridian! It's summertime in the world of climate change, and that means that a lot of places that are built for cold, with people that are used to cold, are getting higher than usual temperatures, and some of those places also have high humidity, which can exacerbate any type of temp. (Generally high humidity intensifies temperature by a "feels like" index of about 10 degrees Fahrenheit.)
So here are some tips for how to survive heat in a humid climate.
Don't go outside. Literally I mean this. Stay indoors, in air conditioned places if you can. If you need to get out of your house for entertainment, go to a shopping mall, a department store, or somewhere with good industrial air conditioning. Fans/air movement is great, but air conditioning will also suck humidity out of the air and make it more comfortable. If you're not used to these temps, it's very easy to start getting overheated outdoors and not realize it until it's too late. Avoid direct sunlight; spend as much time in the shade as you can.
No socks. EVER. The soles of your feet, the top of your head, and the bends of your elbows and knees are the places where heat escapes your body. Don't trap it in. A lightweight baseball cap is fine for shielding your face from sun, but even that's going to get sweaty. But socks? NO. Flip-flops and sandals if you have to go out, bare feet inside your house. I mean it.
HYDRATE. Water is good. Electrolytes are better. My body stops processing plain water at a certain heat point and I have to switch to Powerade and iced tea to get things to work. My wife and I do heavy-duty theme parking even in the summer, and we buy those "refill all day" souvenir cups and spend the day rotating between Powerade, water, and iced tea. It helps. Get you a thermos or double-walled insulated cup or something that will keep your drink ice cold, and drink A LOT.
Cooling towels. I really love this particular brand. (Forgive the Amazon link, it's just where I know to find them.) Get them wet, wear them on your face/neck/head. Most people loop them around the back of their neck like an exercise towel, and that's fine, but if you're outdoors (see above about extreme summer theme parking), take a cue from our beautiful desert-dwelling siblings and wear that shit on your head. If you're wearing a baseball cap, that's an easy way to make it stay put; just put it under the cap and let it flop against your face. You might look silly but you'll feel great. I tie mine around my head and to the back of my neck. (I look "like a pirate," according to one eight year old at Six Flags.)
Lightweight clothes. Tank tops, shorts. Sundresses are A+. Things that have room for air to circulate. Some people do fine with exercise clothes (sports bras and leggings) but I don't like things that are too close to my skin. Need to get the air moving. As few layers as possible, lightest fabrics you can find. (Remember, you're staying out of the direct sunlight, so it's okay to have lots of skin exposed. Sunscreen is still a good idea.)
Fresh fruits and vegetables and grilled meats are preferable to other types of food - heavy foods are going to be hell on your body while it's struggling to regulate temps. And fresh fruits & veg have high water content. Salty chips can be a good occasional snack to help with water absorption though.
If you get to a point that you need an emergency recalibration of your core temperature, ice cubes/ice water -- or even room temp water if it's all you've got to hand -- on the insides of your wrists, elbows, and the backs of your knees. Around your neck is also useful. idk if it's scientifically accurate, but anywhere I can see my veins through my skin is where I figure it's smartest to try to cool from outside my skin.
Cold showers. You may have to start with body-temperature water and gradually work yourself down so you don't send yourself into shock, but I have been known to stand under cold-only water in the shower until I could feel my core temperature coming down to a normal place. And absolutely no heat-styling for my hair. Just air-dry. Climate change doesn't give a shit about how cute your hair is or isn't.
Good luck!

The sun comes up, many more times, more than he could count. And it keeps coming up, and it keeps coming down, and he lives a routine, for a routine is all that he gets. It is evening, he thinks, when he takes the kettle off the heat, like many more times before, and many more times to come. The mugs which he pours the water into are different now, and there is a plastic bag labeled "sharp" in messy handwriting in the corner.
This time, the smell that fills the room is mint, not chamomile, never again chamomile. The man lifts the cup to his lips, and he takes a drink, it's cool as it is hot, and it's an odd sensation, the wispy smoke fills his lungs and his senses, and it's not chamomile. Rough hands draw the curtains, once more, as they will many times again. The glass is foggy, it is cold out and yet the light persists. There are no clouds, and so they do not cry today.
The water lulls in the unrelenting wind that he can hear howling, whispering lies, to anyone who listens, anyone gullible enough to hope. The behemoth body of water, he once a long time ago, in a show of irony, would dare call home, glistens. It glistens and reflects a dozen different reds and yellows and golds.
He lets the curtains drop this time as well, without second thought, turning from them to go to his seat. Unceremoniously the man drops into his seat, and there are no hands wandering to the neckline of his sweater, which now is not blue, nor scratchy, but an uncomfortably soft yellow.
The hand that does not wander has no ring and no leather cord to fidget with, nor is there a silver band pressed against the hot mug today. The unread book has been moved. Maybe the man has finally read it, but the flickering tongues of flame crawling in the old, crumbling brick, speak otherwise and beg to differ. They crackle as he stares at the shattered screen in front of him.
He takes his sweet time with the tea and still, when hands roughened by ruthless years set down the mug it's not empty. The man gets up and stalks through the hallways, stepping on each squeaky floorboard in the process, pushing through the doorway and glancing at the damned mirror out of the corner of his eye. He cut his hair, not too long ago. His eye bags have gotten bigger and darker, but none of it mattered really. He says goodnight to no one and nothing as he gets into bed.
LOVING the beverage metaphors-last time I think it was wine? (Although it might’ve just been chamomile and I’m misremembering…)
Anyways, “the mugs he pours his drink into are not the same anymore” and “never again chamomile” I like these two sentences a lot!! The first reminds me of Elias’s constant swapping of bodies, they both remind me of Peter hating knowing for something long enough to grow familiar (and yet he falls into a routine anyways) and chamomile is often associated with calm while mint is associated with a more spicy sort of coolness. I like how it demonstrates how Peter thinks his rage will be everlasting. As we all do. (Also the bag labeled sharp for the mugs, is it for the ones that were broken? If so the fact that these mugs are symbolic of elias in my mind makes that rather funny to me.)
oOOooH more playing with temperatures and weather!! I do like the “They do not cry today” because anger is easily the stage of grief that’s the least outwardly mourning. It’s the one that’s not sadness it can’t be because it’s anger and that’s easier and that’s less vulnerable and and and- GOD this is good.
Whispering lies to anyone gullible enough to hope..? cough. Elias. Cough.
And yet he still refers to the sea as what he USED to call home. I’m fairly certain he doesn’t think of this cold place as home, so what does he think of as his home? Or more accurately…who.? (Heehee old men with attachment issues viewing eachother as their homes <33)
Huh, it’s fitting that the sweater in anger would be softer but something that Peter hates-or at the very least doesn’t like. He hates how comfortable he was-is. He hates the bright color. It’s not apathetic as he was made to be. It’s everything but. And he’s angry at that. (Or as angry as a man groomed to be devoid of emotions can get.)
Shattered screen? Well, given that this chapter is made tot be representative of anger, I do think that little detail is quite welcome! Showing off his own burst of passion while still concealing it from our view, still letting us know just how angry he got while keeping the tone melancholy and detatched…. YEAH THIS IS MY THESIS ABOUT HOW GOOD I THINK YOUR LONELY WRITING IS WHAT OF IT???
Heehee love him being super frustrated yet refusing to show it. Petulant old bastard saying goodbye to NO ONE and NOTHING and NO I DONT MISS YOU ELIAS SHUT UP-

Today’s tea is yorkshire gold. It’s a black tea blend that I’m really fond of because it’s got a great flavor, rich and robust, and it’s very budget friendly. (It was on sale at ~$5 for a box of 40.) This brand actually comes in two types, red and gold, with the gold being the more expensive one. I really should do a side by side comparison of the flavors someday though, because drinking it by itself I can tell it’s this brand, but I can’t tell the difference between the normal and the pricier one haha.
I also like that the teabags are a bit bigger than standard, and you get ~40% more tea per teabag than, say, bigelow or celestial seasonings. I like a strong cup of tea, and as you may know, letting tea steep longer increases the bitterness by letting more tannins into the tea, so the best way to get a stronger cup is to steep for the normal amount of time and add more tea. Bigger teabags give me that without having to add extra, which I especially appreciate.
I’m drinking it with whole milk and wintermelon sugar, two more rich, bold flavors, so it’s a pretty typical (milk and sugar is milk and sugar) but comforting cup with a little extra oomph. The weather is starting to get warmer, which curtails my hot tea drinking habits, so I have to enjoy this while the mornings are still cool.
The mug is one of my favorites (I know, I say that about all of them). It’s a handmade mug that I bought from a local craft fair in Raleigh, and it’s hard to tell from the picture, but it’s big. This mug holds about twice as much as a normal sized mug, so it’s perfect to enable my tea addiction. It’s also nice and thick, so it holds the heat better and my tea stays hot longer. Sea green and gray is one of my favorite color combinations, since gray is my favorite color overall. I love the way the pattern looks like moss or lichen growing over weathered rock.
Now the kicker; when I bought it, I just bought it because it was $5 and I wanted a big mug. At the time, I thought it was the ugliest mug I’d ever seen, and evidently the potter did as well because it was priced to move. This mug’s gotten lots of use over the years. It came with me to college, it traveled with me on moves to three different states, and I’ve been drinking out of it for over a decade, all while fondly thinking of it as my ugly bargain mug, that was so nice and big even if it was tacky. What a surprise it was when I looked at my “ugly” mug one day and realized “This mug is actually beautiful; it has such a nice shape, it has my favorite colors, and the pattern is evocative of things I love.” Over time my tastes changed, even my favorite color, and without changing at all, this mug became something perfectly suited to me. I wonder what I’ll come to love ten more years down the road?

Day 2 - Bolt
Tumblr media
To avoid becoming a nuisance for the Graveyard Company, one that was always lurking and watching, Alice found time to slip away and spend some of the money she had squirreled away. Outside of her uniform, the clothing she wore was ill-fitting and ill-gotten, so she was treating herself to a few tailored pieces from a local shop.
           A shop recommended by Tristan.
She ran a finger delicately over the offered bolt of cotton and hummed softly while she waited for Olivier to return. The dark-haired elezen was always happy to serve tea when Alice visited and often brought out sweets, even if the younger woman didn’t imbibe such things. She liked the aesthetic of sweets, the way a cookie or cake looked inviting and fun, but sugar was overwhelming to her senses, and she found it very difficult to control herself if she ate them.
“Alright, darling,” Olivier announced as she returned, interrupting Alice’s thoughts. “I had some black tea with spices in it that is good for the changing weather, I think.”
She laughed a bit since the seasons weren’t especially distinct in Ishgard but cut her humor short as she offered a chipped teacup and saucer to Alice, who studied them curiously. Olivier carried herself like a noble, but on all occasions that Alice had joined her for tea, it had been served in chipped, mismatched vessels. Before she could even consider if her question was appropriate, Olivier answered it.
“I am fond of ‘unloved things,” she tittered. “Chipped teacups and cracked planters are favorite, but I also love spiders and stockings with runs in them.”
“Unloved things?” Alice voiced curiously. “They can’t be called that if you love them, though, can they?”
“No. I suppose it is a misnomer. I just find charm in things that are seen as imperfect. I think it helps me cope with people.”
Alice was a darkly astute watcher of people, so the words that Olivier chose stuck with her and added to the eccentric impression that was already growing.
“You don’t seem imperfect, though,” Alice prodded. “Your hair, makeup, dress, and language usage, both body and verbal, seems so intentional and perfected. How do you situate yourself among the imperfect?”
The probing question brought pause in Olivier. She was not accustomed to someone challenging her façade so boldly. She took her time to consider her answer, sipping her tea and nibbling on a shortbread cookie as she thought about it.
“I suppose I face my own imperfections more often than others, so I would situate myself among the cracked pottery and porcelain, even if I try to present myself as polished. I am comforted by the similarities.”
She paused but decided she didn’t want Alice digging any deeper. Olivier quickly gestured to the nearby bolt.
“You like teal, yes?” She asked.
Alice nodded without hesitation. “I do. I like blue and green, and teal is like the child of both.”
“I have some stockings in teal that are on the verge of going out of season if you would like. We are entering the time of year when warm colors are in vogue. Reds and the like.”
Alice shifted and took a long drink from her tea before nodding.
“I don’t really care for red anymore,” she admitted. “I think I shall wear cool, wintery colors all year. Maybe some yellows if I really must blend in.”
Olivier smiled and nodded, happy to just be off the subject she had so foolishly brought up. “Well then, let’s talk about what piece you would like next?” She urged.
Alice was happy to oblige and instantly produced a list of things she had in mind. The conversation would remain polite and topical, but both women were no watching the other with shrewd interest.

Yo Blue! Botanical asks: bleeding heart, calla lily, waxflower, sugarbush, marigold and poppy :D
Hii!!!!!
Bleeding heart: i already answered this one!!! You can find it here!!
Calla Lily: are you more of a sunny day or a rainy evening?
This is definitely my pisces water ghoul speaking but i hate the sun unless it's underwater, i would take a rainy evening LITERALLY ANY DAY over any other kind of weather,, i love the rain and it doesn't rain NEARLY ENOUGH where I live, very dry very sunny, hate it!! I miss rainstorms :')
Waxflower: bee or butterfly, dog or cat person??
I don't dislike bees but i am very anxious so bugs like butterflies and ladybugs are always comforting to me, more than bees are.
I also grew up with pets all the time, and while there was usually a dog at home, i always had more cats!! I've lived with over 10 cats, whereas I've only lived with about 2 dogs :)
currently my 4 cats that live with my dad, i have 4 guinea pigs with my mom (2 are fosters) and i know that my aunt has 2 cats but i don't see those often!!
Sugar bush: do you have a sweet tooth? if yes what are your favorite sweets? if not why?
I used to have a really big sweet tooth but i also have teeth sensitivity sometimes so i can't really eat too many sweets,, i love crunchy things though so chocolates with almonds, Snickers, peanut m&ms, and Ferrero Rocher chocolates are always nice!! Otherwise i really enjoy fudgy brownies!! But i don't eat any of them very often!!
Marigold: favorite tea?
OH BOY LET ME GRAB A CHAIR,, 🪑 okay,, Earl grey was my first, so it holds a special place in my heart, lady gray is my go to, because she's soft and delicate, but still holds the essence of the Earl. English breakfast was quite literally my breakfast tea before school, and Irish breakfast i had when studying for my classes!! I also listen to this playlist which very much tastes like Irish breakfast tea!! HOWEVER, i make my own natural tea blends as well, and i tend to drink lots of other teas for different occasions!!
My go to teas are a lavender chamomile and white sage blend that i make myself!! And literally any other of my tea collection depending on my mood!! (I have over 15 boxes/cans of different flavors lol)
Poppy: do i dip my fries?
@purble77 much like Toni's cursed gremlins (ghouls) i do not dip my fries!!! I have s habit of being too impatient and just biting the box of fries like a rabid animal when i am given the bag of food, i don't wait for them to cool which burns my mouth a lot, but i also don't care bc fries are so good.... Anyway,, yeah i never dip then because by the time I open the food and the sauce the fries are GONE,,,
