yep -- the same guy from the spongebob musical, and my posts abut the spongebob musical.

he blew up completely and now the general public knows him as 'ariana grande's new boyfriend' - their relationship seems to have started off the back of co-starring in the upcoming wicked musical film adaptation.

it's just been like. a monkey's paw curling sort of a way for him to get catapulted to fame, as i had always really enjoyed him as a performer (as spongebob, yes, but also in the other roles i'd seen him in,) and my biggest hope back around 2017 was that he would continue in and be really successful in theatre, get a lot of broadway roles, maybe take on some existing parts i thought he'd really suit, like seymour in little shop or ogie in waitress.......... but instead he booked the role of boq from wicked in a massive hollywood film production instead, where he met ariana grande. THE ariana grande.

and then yeah. at some point, he and grande broke up with their respective partners, (slater leaving both his wife AND newborn son) jumped into a new relationship, and now the whole wider internet knows who he is but certainly not for the right reasons.

there's been speculation regarding whether or not grande and slater had cheated on their previous partners before their relationship began with various sources coming out of the woodwork saying "yes they did" and others saying "no they didn't" -- humans are all perfectly capable of making stuff up, the media especially, so i simply don't know who to trust and i admit it had completely shattered my whole good impression of him - PLUS it gave the wider internet an absolutely awful first impression of him, resulting in, yeah, the (frankly, unflattering, sometimes downright cruel) memes of him popping up on twitter and, as i discovered yesterday, in non-theatre youtubers' videos who would literally never have heard of him if not for the slater-grande romance 🥲

#loren talks #ethan slater #months later let's call this my actual full response/reaction lol #i think at the time this was going down at the end of 2023 i was sort of just Freaking Out like my blood was boiling lol #i was parasocially furious with both of them #ofc now i do realise i'd put him on something of a pedestal #having seen his cute posts about his then wife an former childhood sweetheart plus posts welcoming his new son #AND having watched a youtube mini-series he'd made with his then-brother-in-law. i was SO invested and then.#i was like OH. he really DESTROYED his family huh.#but ofc! every situation is nuanced. we don't know what went on behind the scenes #wrg to his relationship. or what grande's was like with her ex-husband #since everything came to light there's been articles stating that slater wants to work with his ex-wife to share custody of their child #and that he's been spotted backstage WITH his son at spamalot on broadway (his current production)#so it sugggests he's not trying to be an Absent Father #which tracks with some of his own artwork as he and nick blaemire DID write a whole musical about the strained relationship between #a father and son and i just feel like. that suggests something about his personal character. and makes me HOPE he'd want to #be a present and loving parent regardless of circumstance.#anyways.#it's simply not my business BUT. seeing his face #popping up every now and again #it does just. feel extremely weird haha #there's a part of me that's like oh but that's musical spongebob my bestie what's he doing here #as for ariana i really have never had a strong opinion of her #but i have to say hearing her songs out and about these days...... :') i could do without it

Merch and Manga haul from yesterday

#prince's talk tag #ok so the kaeya keychain and white rabbit!len were gifts from my friend i was with yesterday #the len was a from a blind box so they got lucky with that one #but the rest of it i bought yesterday #i saw wxs!miku and my friend was like 'You're getting her. you have to get her!' and so i did #niigo!miku wasnt available only wxs and vbs and this was the last one there #kino currently has these 10th anniversary pins in two styles and you can see both with the kanji and naoto pins #i like the style of kanji's more but they didnt have that style for naoto so I had to get the other one #next time i go ill see if they have the other style #the other three charms in the pic i got at a secondhand bookshop that also has anime merch #i dont do a3 but i do know some things bc of my mutual (LC if you see this hi hi! o/ )#but i thought the charm was cute and it was cheap so i bought it #the rin one was really nice im happy i found it #bc all these charms were mixed in the many rows of hooks they were hanging on. theres no order you just gotta dig for what you want #and lisa was one of my faves when i played bang dream so i got her too #ok now the manga!! im continuing my gekkan shoujo collection bc i will own this whole series its my favorite series ever im so serious #i had hirano and kagiura and twilight out of focus on my wishlist but they came out too close to xmas and my bday to get for it #and then i forgot they came out already until i saw them and decided to get them #i didn't know spy fam got a novel and since thats another series i wanna own everything of bc thats my second fav series ever #i bought it and im interested in seeing whats the story #bottom right im really enjoying that manga and theyre skinny so i can fit a bunch of them :D #bottom middle with the sticker on it my friend knew about it and recommended it and i wasnt gonna buy it #but kino were giving out stickers if you bought the first volume and i love bonus merch sooooo i got it #the two in the bottom left i got at the secondhand bookstore. theyre both yuri anthologies that ive read about in other yuri series #and i hadnt seen them at the other bookstores so i got them at the secondhand one #and bc i bought so much stuff i needed a bag and i saw that cute one of miku baking cookies with her friends faces on them so i got it #it was a fun day!! :D

it makes so much sense that quackity couldn’t talk to SOPHIA about love without also talking about grief btw. the two are so intertwined in the smp as a whole but especially in qquackity’s story. his love and grief are inextricable from each other, they’re symbiotic

#he refuses to talk about his feelings for wilbur as love. because he knows its not #its attraction yeah but not love. they barely know each other #also i maintain that his desire for wilbur is less about wilbur and more about the role wilbur can fill or should have filled in his life #quackity’s obsession with wilbur is fundamentally tied into his grief for tilín #literally the whole thing is about q thinking wilbur was meant to be his partner and therefore also tilín’s other parent #and that massively colours how q views both wilbur and tallulah #that’s why he’s been so obsessed #his talk about roier and cellbit was cute but really when he was describing love he wasn’t talking about them because so much of what he #said doesn’t apply to spiderbit’s relationship at least yet #(there’s still time)#but there’s a reason he couldn’t help but circle back to tilín #tilín has been q’s biggest motivator for most of the series in one way or another #his relationship with tilín might have been doomed but that doesn’t mean he didn’t love them #he loved them to the point of self destruction #and after that conversation with SOPHIA i think he’s only now picking up the pieces #or even examining them in detail #the grief and love he has towards tilín have been overshadowing him this whole time and he hasn’t dealt with it #idk he’s tried at points but he always falls back on denial and pretending he’s fine #maybe because he feels like letting go of any part of his grief is like letting go of his love for tilín and he doesn’t want to do that #after all they are two sides of the same coin #god this is a ramble anyway #quackity #sophia qsmp #tilín #tilin #qsmp

there's absolutely no way I remember every little thing that occurred in this show cause I watched it over a really long stretch of time but I think her giving a pep talk to the wolf while he was in the stew was fun and I really can't stress enough how cool the mental image of death. a wolf. the audience knows to be a monstrously changed little girl walking away with 2 dead ppl on her back and behind it is the little girl the wolf once was. That's So fucking Cool Hello?
