12. Action Manga recommendations!
Tumblr media
This is something that I'm kinda shocked it took me this long to start doing... Let's try talking about some of my favorite mangas from different genres and why I like them and maybe who could like them too.
I'm gonna try to split them up into what element I think stands out the most from each to make it easier to talk about them.
I'm will at least try to bring attention to some obscure series... But I make no promises. This will mostly just be me talking about the stuff I like, and hopefully one of them will end up being something new to someone.
Nice drama recommendations
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These are the series that usually involves a lot of characters talking and debating over the morality of the plot. They usually have people asking things like "are we right? are we wrong? Why? Who's the real enemy? What are we fighting for?" and so on.
First, we have Radiant, a series about a magical world of mages and monsters with a main character that's kind of a middle ground between the two and is trying to seek this place called "radiant" which apparently is where all the monsters come from so he can find out why they are being sent to this world and possibly find a way to stop them from causing chaos to the people.
It's written by a French author and you can tell, the dialogue in this is phenomenal. I would highly recommend checking this out just to see the way these people talk with each other, it feels so natural and everyone is so charming. They all have amazing interactions.
Peach Boy Riverside is about a girl that receives a power that allows her to kill demons with little to no effort while also giving her a dangerous thirst for killing them. The problem is... The girl as well as plenty of other characters are actually friends with many of the demons so she has to constantly keep this power under control, on top of that, the boy she has a crush on also has that power and he just despises demons, so she keeps finding herself caught in the middle of everyone's anger and trying to find a solution that doesn't rely on just killing everything, even though her own power really wants to. It's really interesting.
Claymore is about this woman who works as a professional monster killer. She, as well as many other killers, go from place to place and get hired with the task to eliminate some creature that's attacking all the people, and once they're done, they just move to the next place.
What's cool about Claymore is that all the monsters used to be regular people, so a lot of time is dedicated to the heroes and the villains trying to understand each other and thus adding more layers to their fights. It basically go from the usual good vs evil to two individuals who just happen to be stuck in opposite situations and have to face one another. And some of the backstories for tons of the antagonists are just so freaking interesting. Everyone here feels like the main character of their own story. This is a really solid 10/10 cast of characters.
Crazy action recommendations
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These are the series where the authors just enjoy going bonkers with the fights.
Dandandan is about a girl that likes ghosts that has psychic powers and a boy that likes aliens that is possessed by a spirit. The idea is that this mixes supernatural threats with sci-fi threats, and they do it in a very fun way. Sometimes the antagonist will be a giant ghost that likes to dance, another times it will be a boxing alien crab. This series knows how silly its premise is, and its just loving every second of it.
Undead Unluck is about a girl that can curse anyone that touches her with a lot of misery and a guy that can't die. They put 2+2 together and decide to team up as he's the only one that can survive her and she's the only one that can make him feel alive.
The fun of this series is that everyone has very specific powers based on tons of specific rules, so a lot of the fights rely on characters playing 4D chess with the rules of their weird powers to overcome their opponent, and this sounds like it would get tiresome as if every fight was like some sort of homework, but they manage to keep the action going at all times and getting you up to speed to what everyone can do and how they can exploit what they can do. The ways they use the guy's ability to not die in particular are absurdly creative, doing things like turning his blood into swords and bullets or using it as a lightning rod for the girl's bad luck. Fun stuff!
Zatch Bell is one of my favorites. It's basically a pokemon/digimon setting where kids get paired with some sort of teammate and fight other kids and their teammates, but in this case, the teammates are little children and they fight using books of spells.
Each child has dozens of spells in their books that are a variation of their base power. For example, Zatch himself has lighting powers, so one spell is like a blast of electricity, another is like an electric shield, another one can magnetize the enemy, and so on.
You never what new spell will be used and how it will be used, which makes each fight feel fresh and unique. And the fact that these are kids teaming up with children allow for them to create deeper relationships and thus make you care more about seeing them get out okay from the fight.
Wholesome recommendations
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These are for the people who just want to enjoy nice likable people having sweet wholesome moments.
Ottoman is about a guy and his wife who both get fused with an alien and get tasked with fighting other dangerous aliens to keep the world safe, but the nice twist is that the dude's alien is powered by affection, so in order to get stronger during fights he needs to remember all the things he loves about his wife. It's so freaking silly but at the same time so adorable.
The wrong way of using healing magic is one of those isekai stories where three kids go to another world and one of them gets the role of being a healer, except he doesn't use the healing just to help people, he uses it to make his fatigue go away so he can work on his body muscle and reflexes. And what's even better is that because he keeps healing his opponents everyone eventually ends up befriending him. This one is just a really likable read.
(Oh God, I can never remember this one's name...) A Breakthrough Came Out by Forbidden Master and Disciple, is about a boy who instead of being a hero tasked with facing the demon lord, is actually the son of the hero who defeated the demon lord, and thus has a lot of insecurities because he has trouble living up to his father's name. But that all changes when the ghost of the demon lord starts haunting him and they make a deal where he will train the boy if he promises to show him the world (it turns out that the demon lord was stuck in a basement for years with nobody to talk to... poor guy...)
The bond between the boy and the demon lord is honestly very sweet. You can tell they respect each other and want to make the other proud while also proving their full potential to all of those that looked down on them. One being looked down for not being as great as the hero, and the other for having been killed by the hero. It's a great premise.
Edgelord Recommendations
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay, this is for those who want to inject some "hardcoreness" into their blood.
Ragna Crimson is about a guy that sends all his powers into the past after he realizes there is no way to save the future from the threat of the dragons. Once he succeeds in contacting his younger self, he also advises him to meet up with Crimson, one of the smartest dragons of the world who also happens to hate dragons.
Together, with Crimson's brains and Ragna's powers they just travel the world beating the hell out of tons of dragons with some freaking metal artwork. Some of these fights go way harder than they need to and it always feel so damn epic. The person drawing these action scenes is just giving their 120%, to the point where sometimes I just want to ask them to chill a little (as an artist, you kinda start to feel sorry for other artists when you realize how much work they put on every page).
Here's another name I can never remember... Gachiakuta is a garbage manga, and by that I mean, everyone fights using garbage.
We're operating with Ghost Rider rules where each character can pick up something that was thrown out that holds some sort of special bond to them and turn it into an absurd weapon.
It has all the usual cool edgelord tropes. The main character was betrayed by his people, thrown out like trash, had his loved one killed, decided to dedicate his life to revenge and making them pay, while also teaming up with other people that were also thrown out like trash who each have their own angsty backstory, all while fighting giant trash monsters (because why not?), and also trying his best to keep this rage inside of him from going out of control.
You just know Sasuke and Shadow, the hedgehog are just looking at this from somewhere and going "That's our boy!"
Just like Ragna, the artwork here is insane. Everyone here has such a badass design that makes it look like they're ready to throw down with anyone at any moment.
Finally, we have Rebuild World, a series set in a dystopian future where a young boy is found by a psychopathic A.I. who wants to turn him into a super amazing warrior so he can enter some... Place and get some... Thing... that she wants him to get.
This series feels like the kind of story that could happen in the background of the anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. The atmosphere of this setting feels very similar to Edgerunners.
This future just feels like it's waiting to tear the main lead apart. The people want to kill him, the monsters want to kill him, the robots want to kill him... Everyone and everything wants to kill him. And the only way for him to survive is to listen to his A.I. (his very, VERY horny A.I., because of course...) and learn how to use the people around him in order to secure his safety. If you like dark sci-fi futures with lots of gun fighting, you're gonna love this.
----- ----- ----
And these are my action manga recommendations. Hopefully, you end up finding at least one that got your interest and turns out to be to your liking!
Give some of them a chance and find out!

🌟 **The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic** 🌟
I would certainly call this one a hidden gem, though it may not have the popularity of other anime, this show surely carries its weight when it comes to quality animation, story, and a great work ethic for the MC. 🎨💫
I’m trying not to spoil the show, so I will try to say as much as possible without saying too much. Like I mentioned above I don’t think anyone was expecting to like this anime so much, and it's simply because the show is about using healing magic which is known not to have any combat use. However, the writers of this anime took on a different outlook on healing magic. The animation is great, the story flows well, and more importantly, the character progression is at a decent pace. The relationship that Usato and the Captain build I believe will be one to remember, I think their relationship is almost like a brother-sister/rivalry/sensei all while trying to get better and stronger. Although Usato isn’t the hero, he just is. 💪👨‍🚀
Even after only one season, I feel like this anime is a solid 7-7.5 verified check mark, with a possibility of an 8 rating in the future, depending on the story. 📺✨

REVIEW | "The Wrong Way To Use Healing Magic" - Vol. 1 | B3 - Boston Bastard Brigade
Tumblr media
In the eyes of fate, there are no accidents. There are reasons for why things happen, for better or for worse. Even if you think an occurrence is but a mistake, it will slowly sort itself out in the long run. Such is what happens to Usato, the hero of The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic.
After becoming friends with student council members Kazuki and Suzune, the three are whisked away to a fantasy world. Both Kazuki and Suzune, who are top-tiered students, are destined for a life of heroism; Usato, on the other hand, was just brought along by mistake. However, when the crystal ball grows green after Usato touches it, it’s revealed that he’s got a rare kind of healing magic. And before you can blink, he’s dragged away by the Kingdom Rescue Team captain Rose.
Tumblr media
Thus begins Usato’s new life, training day in and out under harsh and grueling situations. Although he grows frustrated by Rose’s training routines, Usato also grows some solid muscles and magical strength. But he’s not ready to dive into battle just yet; Usato has a couple more tests he needs to pass before then. This includes slaying a rare beast, one that Usato starts to feel sorry for.
While reading through the first volume, I couldn’t quite figure out the meaning behind the its. Despite the humorous training regimens Usato’s doing, it’s not exactly showcasing a “wrong way” to use his magic. Quite the contrary: Usato’s using it properly, as it’s helping him grow muscles and become a lot more immune to pain, poison, and all-around soreness. In fact, I’d go one step further and say that his usage of healing magic has been a lot more unique than most other Japanese fantasy series.

Potential Spoilers for Season 2 Of The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic.
This is a bit later than I wanted to post this, but whatever. I honestly cannot wait for season two of The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic. At the end of the last episode they showed some still frames of characters that show up in the next leg of the journey that Usato goes through and they showed a picture of MAAAA BOI !!!!!! NACK! MA SON!!! Never had I wanted to adopt a depressed, emo, whimp more then after I had met this child. NACK honestly deserves the world after everything he went through and everything he's going to go through. I also hope that people start pairing him and Felm together since they're going through the same Rescue Squad Boot Camp for Kids.
I know everyone saw how Felm and Usato interacted and started shipping them and I completely understand why, but the manga starts implying that Usato unintentionally starts a harem, so I think we can spare some demonic friendship (and more? maybe?) for my son because he needs some new friends. Especially after the toxic, manipulative, beat down he had to live through with Mina. Just because you're "clumsy with your emotions" doesn't mean you should get away with nearly killing your ex CHILDHOOD BEST FRIEND on TWO OCCASIONS. She hasn't even apologized and just says that she waits until he gets stronger so they can rematch. And this is after she said that she "doesn't approve" and "wont accept" that he's leaving. GIRL. HE AINT YOURS TO GIVE AWAY! I get that they're children, they're fictional characters, characters can be flawed, and that part of the narrative was that Nack essentially had to (indirectly) somewhat forgive her and express the desire to heal others so he can break his psychic lock on not being able to heal others, but that girl got problems and I really hope people don't just chalk up her faults and actions to her just being a" tsundere".

5 Best Upcoming Isekai Anime 2024

Note
It looks like the rewind Theory might be coming true
There are many variations of that theory, but yes.
Honestly, it is badly needed in the story if what Horikoshi is aiming for is an ending where the kids and the villains survive.
Introducing a character that can undone damage is always insurance for the author. You have to be careful to not overuse it to the point it loses its impact. If no one ever dies and everyone keeps on resurrecting, the predictability becomes boring.
The good thing is that bnha doesn't overuse Eri. They don't use it to rewind the damage done to the characters when they lose an extremity, for example. It didn't work on Nighteye. They didn't try to use it on All Might—and if they did, I can't remember when it happened.
The point is that I liked that Horikoshi left Eri's quirk to the end of the manga. That way he could make the characters give their 100% without it meaning sure death. It scares the readers, like it should, it creates tension. Knowing that Eri's quirk might not work is another good decision. Even if she shows up after the big showdown, the public doesn't know who is going to survive.
Now, when I say there are many variations...
I'm against the version of it where the villains are turned into kids. Where is the fun of it, uh?
It erases the complexity of each character and all they fought for. What was the point of fighting so much if you're gonna erase what happened? If there's no consequences, no accountability? Any story should grow from the risks of the actions taken. We want to know there's something to be lost, that's where the adrenaline comes from. That's the entertaining part!
The version that completely heals their wounds is also kinda... bland. I'm a fan of bnha because the story doesn't solve most disabilities with magic.
If a pro-hero loses a leg or an eye, they'd have to learn to fight with the cards they were dealt with. Like I said before, those wounds tell a story of the risks they took. Aizawa cut his leg to survive and see another day with Eri and his students. Mirko lost most of her limbs giving her absolute all!!!!
It's the same for villains. It moves you, the way those villains would sacrifice themselves for their goals. Compress' lost arm tells the story of how they lost Magne. Giran lost his fingers when he refused to sell the League, so their absence is the evidence of his loyalty.
I want irreversibility. I want permanece. I want to see the growth that comes with accepting what we do in our lives and how we have to keep going.
My favorite version is the one that heals enough for the person to survive, but not much more. It is not going to take you to step one, it can't erase all you did and all that was done to you.
A second chance, but you have to make it from where you were left. No shortcuts, no easy way out. Either you commit to it or you're over.
I don't want to see Touya without his burns. That is boring! I don't want squeaky clean Touya, all perfect and smooth skinned and whatever. That is not him. He's the boy who burned in the flames of his passion, right or wrong. He's the boy who is supposed to be dead, but survived because he was a stubborn bastard.
The story can lessen them, of course. At this point Touya is more scrap put together by metal than anything else. He cannot possibly survive like that, so he needs to be healed enough to live. The burns can even lessen with time, fading as Touya heals, but I want the memory to last. I don't care if he forgives Enji, I want him to be forced to look at the burns every day knowing how they're there.
Another example?
Tomura's scars tell a story. You cannot resurrect his family, so don't go erasing the scar in his eye or in his lip. Don't go erasing the evidence of his struggle.
To be fair, Tomura has changed a lot since his first appearance. I remember him with yellow teeth, all skinny to the bone. It shows that no one cared for him. Well, maybe enough to keep him breathing, but there was no delicacy involved. It's funny to think how he got better and better the more time he spent far from AFO. That and the surgery he had to undergo...
Which is a wonderful terrible concept. It's about the cleansing, how AFO was preparing Tomura's body to be his. Body modifications to assert ownership, that's a horror favorite. The idea of being "cured" to the point you can't recognize your own body. You know what I mean.
I'm glad that when rewind was used on Mirio, it cost him something. He lost his quirk for a while and he had to make an effort to go back to who he was. I'd say that the nature of the story helped him bounce and that's a chance we didn't see his struggle a bit more.
Anyway, that's my opinion on the matter. I hope it'll be a variation I like and not something that's gonna leave me sweating cold every time I dare to remember it.

Absbsbsn I should preface this post by saying that I'm not posting about this to call people stupid or hate or anything
But now that I've caught up to the dungeon meshi anime (as someone who hasn't touched the manga yet), it makes me laugh seeing those posts about anime onlies getting blown out of the water with the "tonal shift"
Like don't get me wrong, all of those scenes in episodes like 12 and 13 are very impactful (the scene where they're trying to bring Falin back after killing the dragon especially got me)
But like, having slice of life esque stuff only to come out of nowhere with dead or horror or gore or blood is not something that just suddenly starts happening in the recent episodes.
Like...after the orcs rushed the bar in that one episode, I started rolling with the punches😂
The first episode started out with Falin being eaten by a dragon
Marcille decided to try the dog method for harvesting mandrake, and it scared me for a minute when the bat collided with the tower and we learned that Marcille heard the scream
Laois is being Laois and wondering if he can eat living armor. He tells the group the story of how he got his sword and we watch him get stabbed through and die
The crew has decided to go and trade the fresh veggies so as to not waste food, so they go into a bar and fail to make it appeal to the bar owner. The bar is suddenly rushed by orcs who start killing people
We get to see all these tidbits of Kabru's party, introducing them as characters, and then Laois and friends come across them and they're DEAD
You think "haha Chilckuck has a funny vendetta against mimics and doesn't want to end up eating one because of Senshi and Laois" and then Chilkuck gets up in the middle of night to get water only to be stuck in a puzzle room of the horror genre variety where he's trying not to get stabbed/killed via trap or killed via mimic. Marcille thinks she accidentally killed Chilchuck for not looking out for him sooner.
Senshi tells the group that he's gonna cross the water without magic and calls up is kelpie friend, Anne, who he talks to everyone about. He gets on and Anne immediately drags him into the water and tries to kill him. Marcille and Chilchuck think Senshi or Laois died or got severely hurt because of the blood that pools to the top. Senshi prepares to eat the monster he once called friend, asking to do it himself
Marcille is worrying about Senshi's hair/beard cleanliness and trying to make the water walk spell work. Chilchuck and Laois walk on the water only to find Kabru's group dead...AGAIN?
Marcille pours out some hot water after cleaning herself and then has a deadly fight with the water spirit. Laois and Senshi go with Tansu's group so he'll heal Marcille (who is incredibly weak). Kiki and Laois almost die via tentacles in the process.
The giant frog throws out Marcille's staff and Laois's weapon. During the giant frog battle, Chilchuk almost gets eaten
Okay okay I'll quit now 😂
It's just funny to me because it felt like Dungeon Meshi is focusing on the slice of life esque bits and the delicious food, but from sudden violence to serious moments it's constantly reminding the audience and characters that the dungeon is a dangerous place, that they're on a dangerous mission, and of the problems beings who live in this world deal with (racial, monetarial, societal, etc)
And I should also mention that while for a while I just kind of saw everything as a constant "slice of life punctuated randomly by the horrors", I no longer feel that way. Honestly, I think it means a lot that so many makings of of the food(s) of the episode moments come just after the characters have been through a terrifying event, and it tells us a lot about the characters by how they handle these events (whether it affects them very visibly or they just kind of smooth over it because they're used to what it's like just being in the dungeon and having to fight for their lives)

Winter 2024- What I Finished
So as this anime season is coming to an end. Here are the shows I actually kept up with and overall enjoyed immensely.
There will be spoilers so be warned lol
The Unwanted Undead Adventurer
Tumblr media
I have enjoyed this series, the way Rentt is so determined to become a mithril-class adventurer even as an undead. The 3D models for the fight scenes move pretty well with the background matching them, especially in episode 9. This series is a slow-burn, even with the story progression, but I appreciate it because we see so much character growth for Rentt and how he interacts with the people and his friends. The music is fairly average for the series, but it does have some good moments especially when Rentt is in thought or making a choice. I loved coming full circle and him regaining his "human" features even though he still is very much a vampire now. Shun Narita, the composer for the series had some standout moments (fight scenes and contemplativeness) of music throughout the season so hats off to him.
The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic
Tumblr media
I fell in love with the humor of this series from the get-go and not a single episode is a disappointment. It is so full of life and this past week for episode 11, the line " Now that's the wrong way to use healing magic" was used in a perfect moment. The lead up of Usato's characters growth and seeing all his hard work and "torture" from Commander Rose's training *actually* matter was brilliant. Element Garden has done a great job with the music that just gets your blood pumping. Probably will make a separate post for this series once it's over.
A Sign of Affection
Tumblr media
The shoujo everyone is talking about, FOR GOOD REASON. To see the romance between the leads develop was so satisfying and wholesome. The development of the side characters so far is handled well, and at times the flashbacks scenes take over an episode but they are necessary. The art style and the use of lighting are done so well. It was a very cute show and always will love seeing an adult romance.
Solo Leveling
Tumblr media
What can I say that hasn't been said already? I started reading the manwha in 2019 and have reread many times since. Hiroyuki Sawano was a great choice and the soundtrack WILL be on loop once it's released fully. Smart pacing choices to have it end with him gaining a job, this week will be a blast of an episode. Wish it had been slotted for 24 episodes... The last two episodes KILLED it, the animation, the music?! I was on cloud nine.
Mr. Villains Day Off
Tumblr media
A perfect wholesome background anime, that is just about a Villian who loves pandas on his days off. The episodes where they focus on the Rangers aren't super interesting and makes you question the ethics of the world? It's a very cute show and sometimes, it's just a need in life. Ending was split between resolving the previous episode and the lead up to the Rangers and the Villian's battle.
Villainess Level 99: I May Be the Hidden Boss but I'm Not the Demon Lord
Tumblr media
The Isekai'd into an Otome game genre is SO saturated but somehow I ended up loving this show. Yumielle is so autistic coded and straightforward, no one quite knows how to react to her. Patrick is head over heels for her, not that she ever notices, and they're dynamic is adorable. I have laughed watching this show and the only reincarnation anime that didn't bog me down with guessable plot.
Hokkaido Gals Are Super Adorable!
Tumblr media
I fell so hard for this anime that I binge read the manga...who's art is definitely butchered in the adaption, it's so wholesome but the way episode 11 ends off MY GOD the miscommunication hurts me, and people will definitely riot watching the finale...and then picking up the manga to suffer for 40 chapters...BUT it's worth it. Tsubasa and Fuyuki all the way, they're chemistry is the best in the show as they each influence each other to open up, to be serious about the future and to help themselves grow as people. So sad to see this show go but maybe we'll get another season?
Cherry Magic! Thirty Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard?!
Tumblr media
This anime has me kicking my feet in joy and makes me miss my long-distance partner so fucking much. When Kurosawa and Adachi kissed? I was whooping in happiness. Adachi has a lot of room to grow with his communication with Kurosawa but pretty sure the final manga cover is a wedding outfit? My poor notes app I use to write my thoughts/observations as I watch seasonal anime is " SO GAY. KISS PLEASE." for several episodes between them. I loved that the end credits was the wedding but I can't wait to read the manga to compare it!
Gushing Over Magical Girls
Tumblr media
I'm not one to watch ecchi shows but this, THIS is just such a delight to watch. Utena is such a loveable protagonist, a magical girl loving person who gets turned into a villain and has to "fight" the girls she loves. By fighting its not LMAO. I adore all the characters in this show and how fresh the writing for them is. Its beautifully animated and the finale was so much fun to watch!
Mashle S2 - Divine Visionary Arc
Tumblr media
I picked up the first volume at the bookstore halfway through the season to try reading, after Bling-Bang-Bang-Born blew up, and I was not disappointed. Binged Season 1 and caught up in a day. There's just something so satisfying with gag humor and shounen fight scenes. I love everyone (besides for Innocent Zero, fuck that guy) and will for sure be binge reading the manga. The music, as always, is so hype and having rap for the fight scenes is very interesting. The soundtrack for S2 just released yesterday and has some amazing tracks on it.
Shangria-La Frontier
Tumblr media
What. An. Amazing. Show. Never thought I'd like a VR Gaming anime as much as I do now, but this was just so vibrant and humorous. Sunraku's tenacity at gaming and taking on challenges, plus my love for rogue/assassin builds from DND, made him such a likeable character. The entire Weathermon fight to be slotted for 4 episodes was just..gorgeous and stunning. The Music?!? God its perfection. The NPC's of Rabitzu... to have characters and just to not be weird was very much appreciated to me. I sincerely wish it had the fandom that other Fall 2023 shows, cough cough Frieren, Undead Unluck and Apothecary Diaries, has because I just want more merch sobs. The cosplans I have for this show? Too many, and its already in production for another 2 cour season for this fall!!
The Apothecary Diaries
Tumblr media
What a spectacular show and fabulous 24 episodes. The animation, the music (Satoru Kosaki, Kevin Pinken, Alisa Okehazma), the characters, the backgrounds?! I enjoyed watching the characters interact and loved the humor in the animation. I also just read and caught up with the manga in 2 days...so it's that good and a worthwhile watch and read!

The Wrong Way of Using Healing Magic
youtube
I talked about this once on my list of action manga recommendations.
This is one of my favorite isekais and a great source of inspiration for my webnovels and webcomic.
I love the idea of using healing magic to speed up muscle growth, love the characters, the humor, the banter, the action (at least in the manga and novel, let's hope the action translates well for the anime 🙏), this is just a fun series.
I hope it does well.

2024 Winter Anime Lineup (Master Post?)
First post for a new blog where I'm going to try and record my opinions, break downs, comparisons, and various degrees of squees about anime!
The lineup for this year's Winter isn't as packed as the 2023 Fall season was, but that's always the case. It sure is still causing my To Watch List to keep getting longer... but more importantly because it's so lacking in big name shows one of my most anticipated shows gets to shine...

I'M SO EXCITED FOR MY SHADOW BOY TO FINALLY ARRIVE!!!
also, holy CRAP look at all this TRADITIONAL FANTASY!!! There is even a decent selection of non harem Isekai this round too! And a lot of awesome sequels/continuations!
Anyways, here's what's on my to watch list for this season! I'll be posting about them in their own or other threads as I figure out how I want to set this blog up. My reasons for WHY I'm watching what I'm watching

This is already insanely long, so the second half of this essay about what I think is below ↓↓↓↓
DEFINITE WATCH LIST
SOLO LEVELING - I've been waiting for the solo leveling anime since BEFORE the anime was ever announced, re-reading the webcomic/manhwa multiple times and just HOPING someone would animate these gorgeous shadows. It is a very well done power fantasy with only squints of romance, and while I'm sad it's been localized to Japan (and all the fuckery that comes with of Korean erasure), I got to see the first two episodes at the World Premiere and I. Am. So. Hype.
APOTHECARY DIARIES existed completely outside of my head space, and my initial response at the premise was, Raven of the Inner Palace? I wasn't actually expecting much from it and then the first few episodes BLEW ME OUT OF THE WATER and now I'm obsessed.
DUNGEON MESHI is one of those manga I've heard about, but tried reading and it was too slow paced for me (I say, currently slogging through The Boat Arc (TM) of Hunter x Hunter), but the anime gives it life and I think I'll enjoy this alot. I love cooking anime and fantasy, so this will be fun!
KYUJITSU NO WARUMONOSAN is just straight up Crow Bait. That curly bowl cut, the gap moe of a villain who loves cute things, and voiced by fricken Shintarou Asanuma!!! (I know him as Samatoki from HypMic, other's will know him from the "Fucking Bullshit" song from Carole and Tuesday, and a host of other roles) Also, all the pretty sentei / power ranger boys!!! I'm so hype, in the most relaxed chill way for this.
UNDEAD UNLUCK is so weird in that it involves a lot of random sexualization, but it doesn't make me uncomfortable like Seven Deadly Sin's random gropping did, maybe because there is actual implied consent involved. Fuuko and Andy are Poly and I love them for it. And the world building is TOP NOTCH.
FIRE HUNTER - If you haven't seen season one, you are missing out. A darkly beautiful post-post apocolyptic alternate Japan-esque world, from the POV of a young girl, and a young genius boy having to let himself be manipulated by capitalism to survive, and gods? a magic system? but so soft that it's barely there even while being a full on fantasy story.
High Hopes or Taking My Time
SASAKI AND PEEPS- What a weird little show that has the weirdest combination of isekai, the most "this is fine." salaryman, and a fricken' CHUNIBYO BIRB. I've already watched the first episode and it feels like there are two magic systems going on and its a bit confusing, so we will see how this plays out!
WITCH AND BEAST - I keep wanting to call this Beauty and the Beast, because the beast is a rad bad ass looking lady, and the witch is certainly one of the most beautiful undertakers I've ever seen. I think he carries his boyfriend around in his coffin backpack, so I'm hype to see WTF is up with that >o>
DOCTOR ELISE - Why do manhwa I read keep randomly popping up as anime??? This is a vilainess turned good story, and supposedly the market is full of these, but none of them are the good ones I've read, so I did a double take of happiness when I saw this. THIS ONE IS GOOD. An spoiled princess gets killed, is reborn in Korea and becomes a doctor, only to be killed by Airplane-kun, and winds up back in her old body where she decides to become a doctor again! The prince is even not your typical icy asshole! (although maybe he is a little at the beginning..)
CHERRY MAGIC - THIS FRICKEN ENGLISH TITLE GOOD LORDS ABOVE. I'm dying. I'm also excited to see this one play out and I'll be hiding behind a pillow giggling like a mad lad while I do. It's been a while since there's been a good BL that's not SAD (looking at YOU Given and Banana Fish, but avoids eye contact with Sasaki and Miyano) so hopefully it doesn't dip into that territory. Going into this one mostly blind as to the premise apart from the obvious Gap-Moe with the love interest.
SHANGRI-LA - I started watching this on a whim as the Fall season started to wind down, and found it to be a good potato chip to have on in the background. I'll probably continue watching it, but not weekly.
FRIEREN - This is what I watch when Jujutsu Kaisen hurts too much to keep going. I'm only a few episodes in, so it'll be slow going, but I think it's about to pick up it's pacing a little where I'm at, and it'll be good comfort food to have.
MAYBES
Mashle Season 2 - The pacing was SUPER WEIRD in the first season that despite all of it's shitting on the properties of she-who-shall-not-be-named, the end of the season kind of fell flat. I wanted to like it more, so I'm hoping Season 2 does that for me.
Fluffy Paradise - I love isekais with an adult in a child's body pretending to be just super smart, and this doesn't feel like it's going to do that, but still looks cute none the less. I'll give it a few episodes, but will quickly drop it if my watch list is too long.
Ishura - Is this what life is like for D&D Characters when they hit level 20? I HOPE SO. I LOVED the Legend of Vox Machina, and hope this has the same sort of vibes, but I'm going in blind!
The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic - Love me some fucked up healing magic. Please DO NOT let this be ANYTHING like Redo Healer. I refuse to watch that even those FUCKED UP HEALING MAGIC IS FUN. But this. This I want to see. Please let this also not be a harem. I'm fine with ~vibes~ but please no actual harem that's not actually Poly.
Blue Exorcist - THIS IS TOTALLY OUT OF NOWHERE. HOW LONG HAS IT BEEN?????? I remember the last season feeling like a disappointment? But can't remember why? Gonna see if this is worth re-watching the seasons from like... a decade ago.
Delusional Monthly Magazine - I watched the PV and had no fucking clue what was happening. Therefore, I will be watching a few episodes to sate my curiosity about WTF OR possibly just get myself even more confused and rage quit. lmao
I've watched the first few episodes of a couple of these, and will be watching a few more tomorrow, so Next Goal: Post a write up or three about what I think!

Attack on Titan ~Characters with a black reader like Neo-Queen Serenity~
Manga/anime: Attack on Titan
Warnings: spoilers of all the death
Requested by: @happybunny999
Some information about the reader:
- Reader can magically heal the sick and injured and bring the dead or an entire world and its population back to life with the Silver Crystal.
Probably, Eren is intrigued by you and your powers and he finds they're complementary to his: he destroys and kills, you create, heal and give life. He has a sincere feeling of affection for you; he also wants to protect you, especially during expeditions. Before he dies, he'll want to see you to tell you he loves you and to ask you not to bring him back to life after his death.
Armin is completely fascinated by you: he's interested in your appearance, your powers and your character. He's the one of the trio who wants to spend more time with you to know more about you; unlike Eren, he would rather be close to you than protect you from afar. In fact, he uses any excuse to be with you.
Mikasa can't stand you: she's wary of you because she thinks you're a spy who'll deceive and betray them. Whatever you do, she always criticizes you; she does everything to keep Eren and Armin away from you and to face you in fights, which you always win, increasing her hatred for you. After Eren's death, she'll never want to see you again: she won't forgive you for not saving Eren.
Jean has appreciated you since you brought Marco back to life. Both quickly became your closest friends along with Armin, and you and Jean often spend time together. He's your protector and your shoulder to cry on and he does everything to make you happy. The more time passes, the more he'll become a big brother figure to you.
Sasha and Connie quickly became fond of you. They like to play with your Silver Crystal, but they're often scolded by you or their superiors either because they lose it, or because they risk breaking it. After Sasha dies and you bring her back to life, both will run up to you and hug you tightly, thanking you. At the end of the final battle against Eren, they'll ask you to live with them.
Ymir and Historia were very wary of you, especially the first, who kept the second away from you for fear you would harm her. However, it was Ymir who first opened up to you after you gave a beautiful speech about life to her beloved, who had asked you not to bring her back to life if she died. After you bring Ymir back to life, they'll often invite you to have tea with them.
Annie thought you were dangerous, especially for her and her companions, because she feared you could take away their powers or nullify all their actions. Like Mikasa, she also wants to train with you, especially because she realizes she's improving a lot since fighting you. Eventually, after you beat Eren, she'll start to like you more than before, even if you two will never be best friends.
The more time passed, the more Reiner and Bertholdt became fond of you. They feel lighter in your company, as if they were normal boys; furthermore, they appreciate you're saving everyone, both allies and enemies. When you bring Bertholdt back to life, both will want to take you to Marley, but they'll accept your refusal and beg you to be safe.
Levi was weirded out by you: he didn't understand how you could be so kind and how you could bring everyone back to life, including enemies. However, he soon began to appreciate you and realized no one is totally wrong or right in their world. He'll be very happy after you heal all his wounds, and he'll thank you so much.
Hange and Erwin love talking to you and discovering your powers more and more, even if in a different way: the first analyzes you (not like their titans, though) and studies your Silver Crystal, the second often chats with you. In the end, before dying, both will ask you not to bring them back to life, saying their death would have been necessary for their companions' growth.
Ymir Fritz didn't understand you: she has always been trained to defeat and kill enemies, but you save everyone without distinction. Now, she understands you slightly more, although not completely. She's very interested in your powers, since you're both special; whenever she can, she spends time with you, chatting and hanging out with you.

rant about why I would have loved decay to have been Shigaraki's quirk (+musings about the future)
I mean it's still is 100% his quirk but him not being born with it is so disappointing to me. In 418 Tenko cries "why else would I have been born like this", only for the next chapter to answer such a heart-piercing question with "u werent' lol"…SUCH a cope-out omg.
Whew almost had to contend with reality that some kids manifest such horrible quirks as decay and horrible things happen because of it…thank god it was just a fault of this one dude (ughh)
In this very same manga we have examples of people accepting their quirks & assert that only they get to decide what is the meaning behind them, despite people trying to shove them into boxes. Shinsou using his "villainous" quirk be a hero <3 Shoto using his fire because it's HIS, not his father's <3 Eri, who was told she was born cursed, learning her power is like a knife - it can be dangerous but can also be used to make delicious food (I love that scene) <33 I've seen people saying that it would be repetitive for Tomura's arc end in the same way but I disagree. I thought that as the main antagonist, he is not only the final boss physically, but also the final boss thematically: His salvation could have been a culmination of the lessons we learned throughout the series, and a testament of their significance.
Tomura could have been the ultimate case of that setup. It's easy enough to tell Eri (someone with essentially super healing, who killed with it on accident) that she is born with a gift. But could you have told the same to Tomura (someone with hands that destroy everything, who used them to kill on purpose)? I guess we will never know. To have a man with destruction literally written in his genes, who was raised to believe there is something fundamentally wrong with his being, come to understand that only he can define his power, that he is not doomed because of the way was born. Aaaa it could have been so gooood :( What could have been a powerful story about self acceptance instead misses the mark completely (for me).
Ok FINE we also do have Toga's story incorporating this (with a few key differences) and we love her!! But it's still baffling to me that the main antag is doing a worse job at embodying the themes of the series than the supporting cast. Seriously, even if afo giving decay makes sense logistically (it's in his character, it was foreshadowed, yadayada), what exactly does it add to the narrative, thematically?
+Not really a serious point but there was something so resonating about abused boy's hands turning to destroy everything they touch because, when no-one else cared to save him, he had to end the abuse himself. The same way it's resonation that a depressed man turned into a cockroach. It doesn't need a reason because it just makes sense that would happen. (magical realism my beloved)
Shigaraki's story could still end with him reclaiming decay and it would still be neat tho!!
Idk about that awakening of reconstruction thing…feels too much like "healing=good, destruction=bad" (im more of a "destruction can be used to do both good and bad things" typa gal (like using it to save people from under rubble and stuff like that)). I'm not ENTIRELY against it tho. (The league could really use a healer right now lol). +Shigaraki awakening hope for a better world coinciding with awakening the power of creation that was denied from him would be cheesy but also cute. But also uhhh - didn't decay first start to manifest when he was playing with Mon, shining smile on his face from the knowledge that his granny was a hero? So what would be the narrative reason for decay to manifest then, but reconstruction now? UNLESS that WAS reconstruction and he was actually repairing the ball from Mon's teeth marks?? Reconstruction coupled with regeneration opens the door for all kinds of messed up, gorgeous body horror <33 (Tomura using his own bodymass for overhaul, like healing someone's obliterated arm by ripping his own arm off and giving it to them lol it would be sooo mmmmhmm) (sidenote: Are we gonna see mangled overhaul vestige or what??)
While we are talking about cheesy metaphors…Shigaraki getting back his airwalk (if that is his og quirk) and learning to fly after being freed from the man who groomed him? HELL YEA that's what im all about. I don't like decay not being his og quirk, like I probably made clear lol, but this would be beautiful not gonna lie (im just a sucker for freedom symbolized by flight (imagine him tiptoeing through skies without care in the world like Howl from howl's moving castle….with a cape and everything…glamour off the charts))
