I read and absolutely loved THE DUTCH HOUSE by Ann Patchett. Have you read it? This book tells the story of Maeve and Danny Conroy who grow up in the Dutch House, a mansion in the Philadelphia suburbs. Their father purchased the lavish estate at the end of the Second World War, as a surprise for his wife. The Conroys go from poverty to enormous wealth but that does not last long. The siblings go through many ups and downs. Set over the course of five decades, The Dutch House is a dark fairy tale about two smart people who cannot overcome their past. ▫️ This photo was taken by my son. Nesse mês de maio, resolvi renovar minha assinatura da caixa Intrísecos... faz tempo que queria assinar uma caixinha literária e, depois de muito pesquisar, decidi por essa. O livro do mês (que eu tinha chutado um mas errei feio, errei rude) é A Casa Holandesa, da Ann Patchet. ⠀ Sinopse: Após a Segunda Guerra Mundial, graças a uma conjugação de sorte e senso de oportunidades, Cyril Conroy entra no ramo imobiliário, criando um negocio que logo se torna um império e leva sua família da pobreza para uma vida de opulência. Uma de suas primeiras aquisições é a Casa Holandesa, uma extravagante propriedade no subúrbio da Filadélfia. Mas o que ele imaginou que seria uma surpresa incrível para a esposa acaba por desencadear o esfacelamento da família. I couldn’t believe it, but a thoughtful, avid reader from work gave me these new books today! 🤭😁 One to keep and one to borrow. I’ve tossed and turned over The Dutch House. It sounds like a beautiful book and I’m missing that poetic prose. Was hoping to borrow it from the library, but now I don’t have to 📚😏 As for the second, The Loudness of Unsaid Things is the hot book on everyone’s list and the blurb has piqued my interest 😊 Need more time to read! I may actually have an addiction problem. 4 newbies. I'm not allowed to leave the house any more. Exciiiiiiiiittteeeedddddd! I'm gonna have to bump some books in the stack.
