I was reminded of the love of my friends and chosen family near and far when I needed them the most. Q: What genre do you like to pick up to make you feel good?. For me, its #romance. I recently read Life's Too Short & it gave me so many happy and feel good feels – I loved it!. I had a feeling I would like this book but it still took me by surprise and I really enjoyed it. Vanessa is a travel vlogger, but this focuses on the “home” part of her life – when she’s taking care of her niece since her sister left the baby with her and then left. I love how down to earth Vanessa feels and how she cares about her family, even when they don’t always seem to care about her. She’s a strong woman who is always herself, even in front of her super hot neighbor Adrian – she never puts on a front or acts like someone she’s not. Adrian is the guy next (apartment) door who works too long and too hard and doesn’t have a life outside of work. The only reason he even talks to Vanessa is because her baby won’t stop crying at 4am and he goes over to knock on her door. The two form a fast & easy friendship and Adrian is happy to help care for baby Grace. Complete opposites in personality, they teach each other things about life the other never thought about. The banter between these too is fantastic! It doesn’t feel forced or cheesy at all, as some romance novels tend to – I loved their genuine interactions and friendship. Vanessa knows she has a 50/50 chance of having ALS, a fatal genetic disease – multiple women in her family have died from it. She lives each moment to its fullest and never lets a minute go by – if its exploring your building or looking at the stars or traveling to exotic locations – you can live life even if you never leave your house, and I love that message this story gets across. It feels dark at times with death constantly hanging over Vanessa’s life, but she never lets that get her down. There is a happily ever after, so don’t worry too much!. This story gave me all the feels and really made me think about living each moment to its fullest and inspired me. My top ten of 2020 was a bit surprising because for first time, I didn’t have a PNR/UF book that captured my attention. With that said, Queen Move by Kennedy Ryan led an amazing list of books that captivated me. Half of the list features new-to-me authors as well as diverse reads. My bookstore had a sale today even on rom com books. Buy two get one free. It was good except for one guy who would not follow social distance rule and kept getting closer and closer to me until I gave him a look. Yes I did wear a mask.
