It is very fittingly considered a classic. It crafted brilliantly, from an impressive confluence of talent, and holds up to this day. The combination of Dr. Seuss (the creator), Chuck Jones (the director), Boris Karloff (voice of the Grinch and the narrator), and the song, as sung by Thurl Ravenscroft (famous as voice of Tony the Tiger for many years), it just, well a very impressive combination. Wishing a Happy Birthday to the wonderful, wise, and whimsical Theodor Seuss Geisel! His writing revolutionized reading, education, and childhood. Dr. Seuss plays an irreplaceable role in many of our lives because his works were not only some of the first read to us in our lives but also some of the first books we are able to read ourselves. We form a special bond with these characters and share them with our own kids. It’s a lovely tradition. From working in a bookstore I can unfortunately report that some people find children’s books to lack a certain intelligence; however, the genre itself does not lack complexity. There are many layers to Dr. Seuss’ books. Looking through one of my favorite art books, "Dr. Suess Goes to War" again. It's a collection of editorial cartoons that he created during WWII. I find it fascinating in 2 ways. 1) The social commentary reflected. 2) The juxtaposition of his style (which most people are familiar with through children's books) with more "adult" or socially conscious material. [brief reminder that these will be *loosely* in an order of least to most favorite, though that often shifts] 🌲 Blu Christmas Holiday Movie Asplosion 2022! ⛄ Chapter 1: Dr. Seuss' The Grinch 🦌 I begin with the least of the three Grinch versions. A bit of a shame, because it is visually pleasing, has good voice actors, and took a more unique approach to the music. Unfortunately, the songs often feels forced and overly corny, the voice of the Grinch (Cummerbund Bandersnatch) feels stuck in an attempt to sound more American as well as cartoony, and the story as presented in this version lacks somewhat in (the ever important) charm, when compared to the others. But, it's still not all that bad. It's also the 3rd version of it in this marathon, and is both the original, and easily the best. ❄️ 🎄I'll Have a Blu Christmas Holiday Movie 'Asplosion 2021!🎄 💿 Chapter 53: Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas! 🎞️ This TV special was short, but again, the original and the best. It had the absolute perfect choice of narrator/Grinch, Boris Karloff. Also, I have lamented for years and years (and years) now that the amazingly named Thurl Ravenscroft, voice of Tony the Tiger, was not credited for his amazing work singing "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch" (though in recent times the internet has done some wonderful ridiculous things that somehow feel like they make up for this error...and I do mean the Tony the Tiger/Grinch shipping fanfic). Also, it was gloriously animated in a very looney tunes style, fittingly directed of Chuck Jones.
