We are always told that every great story has a hero and a villain, or some great conflict that prevents the hero from reaching their goals. We are always told to root for the hero, no matter how morally ambiguous they may seem, because there is always someone who’s done worse. The villain is the unlucky scapegoat: a person that the hero can always blame when things go wrong, the person who is supposedly responsible for all the bad things in their life. 

However, there are no heroes and villains. There are only victims. For we are all victims of time and circumstance, and that changes everything.

Whims and Wishes: A Quest Across Elsewhere

“If history is not done right the first time around, history will repeat itself.”

Disease blackens the realms. Druids are persecuted, Aos Si hide away in their hills, and history has been rewritten into lies. The lady of the lake’s sword is in the hands of a wrongfully chosen king, unbalancing the forces of life and death. Only when a new chosen takes the sword back can the land be healed, but it will take a quest across Elsewhere to do it. 

In a twist on King Arthur and Irish mythology, Ronan Glenwood must face the horrors she’s been sheltered from and let go of her doubts if she is to save the realm from itself. 

A vengeful druid with too much faith in destiny. A spy who’s given up on his court. A king with a two-hundred year debt to death. And Ronan, desperate for a cause worth dying for.

yes! you read that right! after much deliberation i’ve decided that i want to share sound carries with the world -- and i’d like to give it to you for free! 

starting june 15th, 2020, sound carries will be posted online on wattpad and on AO3, updating with new chapters 3x a week mon/wed/fri.

synopsis:

At the Conolly Institute for the Performing Arts, seven opera students fight for the chance to prove themselves. Leah Woodley, an often-overlooked senior student, is determined to land a lead role this year and demand the attention of the faculty. The problem? Everyone else has the same goal. Since this is their third and final year at the school, stakes are already high, but when the  star performer Hannah Frazier disappears without a trace midway through the year, tensions are drawn taut. When her body is discovered at the bottom of Conolly’s highest tower, and the circumstances preceding the tragedy come to light, two things become clear: Hannah’s death wasn’t an accident, and each of the six remaining students has a terrible secret.

1. DEATHLY PRINCE  — WIP INTRODUCTION.

→ a novel by. a. e. evans.

A book from A Kingdom of Ashes and Stars series.

Genre: high fantasy, fantasy.

Status: first draft.

Themes: faes, dragons, magic, black magic, worldbuilding, death, chaos and order, friends to lovers, mutual pining, high fantasy, power and corruption, war.

Summary: Daryana Markova used to hear these stories about the myths of her kingdom: faes, dragons, supremes, and more creatures that seemed to be taken from fairy tales. But one day, Darya meets someone who will completely change her perception of the world, including her perception of herself, since Daryana is not human as she seems. Daryana is the key to avoid or end a war between magical creatures and humans, but will she be able to handle her power or will choose darkness instead?

Excerpt.

Mom used to say I possessed magic.

I never knew exactly if she meant the real magic or not. But she used to say I did magic with flowers and gardens and stuff: that I brought them to life. I liked to plant flowers everywhere, even in winter. I was the only one who could find flowers that could prevail in any season of the year: in the summer, when the heat was stifling, the sun was shining high and the fields were bright; in the spring, when the trees were lush and strong with fruit, the flowers were full of life and radiant; in the autumn, when the leaves began to fall withered from the trees and formed piles of autumn colors; and in the winter, when a huge, thick white layer covered everything in its path.

Chatacters:

Daryana Markova. 18. fae. Darya has heard these amazings stories, myths of faes, dragons, supremes and more mythical creatures that she has never. one day, she meets someone from who will change the perception of her world and who she is: a fae. daryana has the power to end up the war bewtween magical creatures and humans, but she's not sure if she can handle such a big and dar power.

Aleksandr Romanov. 20. death. Alek is the king of death and the most powerful fae in the world. he is also the winter, known as smert' or voloshna. he finds out the power of darya and takes her with him because the human hunters want to kill her. when alek realizes that daryana doesn't trust him, he tries to be her friend, falling in love with her so slow. aleksandr has to decide if he's willing to start or end up a war.

Denis Slovinsky. 20. fae. Denis is the captain of the royal guard of faes and alek's best friend. they grew up together and denis is willing to give his life for his best friend, but this one does not allow something like this. he is a true warrior and proves it.

Elena Vasileva. 19. fae. Lena fled her home at a very young age and in order to survive, she become a hit woman. she is too close to aleksandr, because they met when elena was running away and he offered her a home. lena helps darya to understand the fae world and finds in darya a true friend.

Stefan Koslov. 21. fae. Stefan is a remarkable soldier who lost his family when he was just a kid, so he swore revenge on humans for what they did to him. he gets very close to darya because aleksandr asign him to be her guard and compain her. stefan and lena find them in the duty to show darya the life of the fae court: the court of the dark.

Irina Dashkova. 19. fae. Irina is a tough girl who was raised in the court: a lady from the royalty who wants nothing but fight and prove that she's not the typical damsel in distress. she hesitates and doubts about darya because she doesn't know her well and through her finds true love and a lot of things from the human world.

Lai Fenghuang, intent on taking over the throne of the Empire, tries and fails to poison Chen Kaiguo, the unlucky Imperial Official. Cue them teaming up, Kaiguo promising to help Fenghuang claim the throne, and her to get him an antidote to the poison creeping to his heart. But what happens when the friend of the wrongly accused lady decides to exact revenge, and what happens when Fenghuang and Kaiguo accidentally fall in love?

Kaiguo was supposed to be dead. By some fluke ( or magic? ), he is now a shadow of himself, and begs Fenghuang to give him the antidote to reverse the poison. What he doesn't know is that he's getting tangled up in her nefarios schemes.

LIN MEIDAO

WRONGED, ACCUSED, DEAD

Meidao was just another healer. Subjected to the losing end of Fenghuang's plan, she is wrongly accused of poisoning an official and sentenced to death.

CHEN RUIHUA

VENGEFUL, ANGRY, ABOUT TO LOSE HER LIFE

When her best friend, Meidao, is wrongly accused of poisoning the official Kaiguo, she vows revenge on the person that made it happen — Fenghuang. What she didn't plan for was to discover Fenghuang's secrets.

Sycamore’s Feathers

Sycamore loves her feathers. Generally they remain hidden under long clothing, her wings clipped so her arms can fit into sleeves. She needs to pass as “human” for the time being. But she eagerly anticipates the day she can show off her plumage in all its fiery, colorful glory.

Here’s a ms paint diagram to show where the feathers are:

Sycamore’s wings do not extend from her back.

Sycamore does not have a rudderlike tail used for steering in flight. She’s flightless, and her tailfeathers are more decorative.

Figure 2: “Yes”

Fancy, decorative head plumage is commonly found on phoenix hens.

Her “eyebrows” are actually expressive, colorful feather crests. After trimming them, she dyed them black so they resemble human eyebrows.

Sycamore’s arms are feathered like wings (think wyvern but fluffy). The normal, human arm part is lined with smaller feathers.

Her torso and legs are also feathered, but her lower ankles and feet are bare.

She had lovely, peacocklike tailfeathers and was reluctant to part with them.

Chapter Twenty Eight Snippet

↳ The Battle of The Termondd

Ronan ran from the beast until a body crashed against hers. They both collapsed in the ferns, and once upon her elbows she saw it was Fig. They lay there, still, gasping for breath, staring at each other. This short reprieve from battle lasted two hundred years. It lasted a millennia. It fleeted.

His dark hair brushed his brows, which pinched with concern or doubt or both. Rainwater made his cheeks shine, and there was a small dent in his skin, right at the crest of his cheekbone. Ronan had resisted the urge to stare at him since they had reunited. She feared this new, older Fig could overwrite her memory of her childhood Fig. But they were once and the same, of course. 

She must look a mess, long hair knotted like a crow's nest. When they first reunited by the lake, she had the disposition of a newborn fawn and she knew it. Since, she had grown, gotten her legs under her, catapulted into the unknown and despite being utterly unprepared every step of the way, Ronan felt steady. Strong. The beast’s feet pounded louder, closer.

They balanced on the precipice of separation again. Fig gazed at her from under his eyelashes, his jaw clenching...  His gaze pinned her, held her together, and if he turned away she would suffocate. 

And he did.

And she did.

They fled away to fight each their own battles, alone.
