‘Cersei and Joffrey and the general trauma Sansa suffers leads her down a path of hating herself in the same way Cersei does; hating her naivety, partly wanting to shame others who are still like that as a means to project it outwards and yet she never quite does. And not only is that a triumph of her empathy in the face of her situation but it is also a triumph of belief in herself; still seeing goodness within herself rather than just something to shame and attack the way everyone makes her internalise. If these other people deserve empathy, even when part of her does feel the opposite, if they still deserve empathy, so does she. I think all of this tells us she did have a lot of loving experiences from her parents growing up. That as much as she might feel self-hatred a lot of the time there is still a little voice in there saying ‘no you deserve more, you are more than they say.’ At many points it’s a very faint, faint voice in this story but what’s important is that it is there.’
Oh my god. He gets it. I really think the entire asoiaf fandom should watch this video. I mean, op is a child therapist - of course he has a better grasp of her complexity than half the freaking fandom.

Naofumi Hataya, John Tay - [Alternate] (S&K) Boss Theme (YM2612 + SN76489)
There's not a lot to say for this track in general. Maybe some people have their curiosity on why this sounds how it does, so I'll explain.
I didn't put too much thought into writing the boss themes but I thought that it'd be a great idea to redeem Sonic Forces' well-known Classic Sonic theme (behind Green Hill, with terrible instrumentation), (Battle with) Egg Dragoon Mk. II. Couldn't decide on whether to use my personal spin or the original composition, so I took both, for the sake of my troubles.
youtube
Written by Naofumi Hataya, I felt like this was kind of a missed opportunity since the psuedo-Mega Drive FM synthesis didn't do the tracks any favors, so I thought it'd be a great inclusion to add, despite me, again, not putting too much thought into it. This is probably an unsung composition of the Classic Sonic songs because of its goofy nature, but it reminds me of the unused boss themes in Sonic 3D Blast (MD), so I took a liking to it. Jon Burton would disagree though (haha).
youtube
I also thought that making a fusion of both the S3K Major Boss themes together in the song would be nice, because why the fuck not. This was inspired by Sonic Robo Blast!'s SHOWTIME!! With the Mad Gigglyman... Eggman Boss Theme (well, if that isn't a mouthful then idk what is) by PhantomCryptik and Deadlyname15.
youtube
This song referenced Sonic 2's boss theme melody, and while I didn't take anything from Sonic 2, I did learn from it by giving the song a dedicated section to reference both the S3 miniboss and major boss themes, just to fill things up in the background. Some audio candy to chew on, if you will.

the essay!!!! i read that shit instead of studying for my exam so if i fail it is your fault miss yogurt (kidding). i am continuously amazed at your abilities and your perfectly dry-but-witty journalistic style that i am ohsoinlove with. reading the sentence “(Also unsurprisingly, Gray is about gaslighting a girl until she dies.)” took me out lma. ! i love all of ur writing, tho i am obviously biased since it’s on topics that interest me - however, the amount of work and dedication that you are able to designate not only to a complex split of a band, but also personal relationships, biographies, lyrical and prose analysis is astounding! anyway,,,, i guess i just want to thank u !
thank you this message is really genuine and sweet <333 i re-used that joke from the gray dissertation lol
Tbh i was not happy with a lot of parts of this one. Sorry to rant about this appended to your ask specifically <3
mainly I think i shot myself in the foot with the way i structured the last one where i covered the moment panic got signed in excruciating detail and then rushed through 10-15 years really fast. at the time i did not think these were that serious or were going to reach as far as they ended up reaching and it was just like for my tumblr followers so i knew it was like a bad idea but i was just like "whatever!!!!"
anyway that made the beginning really rough because i didnt really have a set place to start. the first like 5 pages were also completely different too which didnt help
Also about 70% of the way through i realized it was really weird that i didnt give brendon any kind of dramatic introduction. I had so much fun writing the dramatic introductions they got a lot longer than when i outlined the essay which made that even more noticeable
But honestly, writing this and watching so many presplit panic interviews i actually started liking brendon a lot more and remembered why people used to love him and i knew whatever i wouldve said would have been things people didnt really want to read, so instead he just got his villain monologue at the end
It was also kind of weird that i didnt introduce spencer or jon at all but i figure anyone reading a 50 page essay about panic at the disco already knows who these people are anyway so i just had 2 move on
Also i was not very happy with the verlaine section, i felt like it was a lot of very dense information to synthesize and like also I didn't want to over explain it and be accused of being like a gay truther but like im sorry. its not even gay truthing its just gay by virtue of existing so i feel like i under explained it
Other parts too. However my research capabilities are absolutely unmatched and i do think im funny. im not sure if most other people think im funny but i sure think i am <3

hello world i am awake and have my first dose of daily medications in my system and thus have a lil bit of energy at the moment to just Type My Thoughts Out Into The Void On Here. so here is my non internet/social media life update for all of u today:
later in the day i am finally gonna be able to meet/hang out with one of my longest exclusively internet-based friends of mine after a little under 10 years of us being friends!! im so happy + excited for it but i still have some chores and last minute cleaning stuff i gotta do before he gets here, hopefully waking up a lot earlier than i usually do will give me whatever time i need to finish my part of the household preparations 😅 but yeah!!! he's a mutual friend of both me and Eli (obviously, would not otherwise just be like. hey Eli this person u dont know or hypothetically arent friends with actively is also staying at the house while ur here get used to it HFSGSHSCGSF) and we've been trying to put together some kind of non-internet hangout trip for years and it just didnt work out until this time around.
right before the first global shutdown covid wave back in early 2020 the three of us had been trying to plan a May hangout together that we called "superbirthday" (cus my birthday is may 6 and my friend Jon's, person who is coming here 2day, has a may 26 birthday, so the 20 days in between both our birthdays is 'superbirthday' celebration time 😌✌️) so im like. beyond excited that we've all actually been able to make it happen for real this time!!
i've met up irl now with quite a few of my good friends who were people i originally met online in some way but it's still so surreal in a happy way whenever that happens again. me and Jon originally became friends through the Gmod server "Gmod Towers" (which doesnt even exist anymore it has its own separate game that both me and Jon actually contributed to the fundraising campaign for the devs to develop yrs ago) in like. fall of 2014, if u never played on it back then, it was a really chill fun virtual hangout server world kinda similar to like....imvu/second life, that kinda thing, but on a much smaller scale than either of those and with most playable characters taken from like, the general Gmod Valve Game Character Model List. it was styled like a resort type hotel with different areas of the map having different activities u could do with friends or anyone else around, there was a mini games section and a big hotel lobby where a lot of people just sat in groups and talked with their mic headsets and a hotel room area that saved whatever interior decor u set up in ur room, u could watch youtube vids on a virtual tv and throw parties for the server to come join and be goofy at....Good Times.
ANYWAYS all of that to say, as awful as the general internet experience can be like all the time forever especially in more modern yrs, im really grateful that in my life i've been able to make such meaningful connections and friendships with people online, sometimes in niche lil corners of the internet with dedicated fan followings like Gmod Tower!! i say it irl all the time to ppl but the internet truly Was Not One Big Mistake despite the increasing chaos of the whole big picture concept, being someone who is disabled and had to drop out of school at 14 to quite literally keep myself alive and keep my body/brain from totally failing on me, i genuinely don't think i would have many friends if any at all if i hadn't been able to connect with people online, especially with my Agoraphobia making it very difficult to like. put myself out there in the world.
....yeah! so. thats what i am up to currently. and yes we WILL all be playing Kirby Air Ride for the Gamecube on my Pink Disney Princess TV as a Superbirthday™️ activity. for ur information.

At first, I thought it was weird that Phish didn't post more jam-heavy clips from Sphere on their channel, but then I realized: they post videos of big jammed-out performances all the time. How often do you get to instead show off what you can do visually inside the Sphere? I mean, I primarily listen to and see the band to enjoy their basically peerless (in my estimation) improvisational rock chops, but I'd definitely give up hearing another twenty-minute "Sand" in exchange for getting to see something like "Taste"'s giant amphora or the hurricane of cars during "Tweezer Reprise" in person from inside the Sphere.
But in this post I dare to ask: what if you could have your twenty-minute "Sand" and eat your brain-breaking Sphere visuals, too?
The expression got away from me a bit, but you see where I'm going with this.
This "Sand" was played during night one, and it actually opened the second set after the "Carini" I wrote briefly about earlier closed the first set. Fun!
I'm going to be mostly writing about the music this time around, but I want to note immediately that I love the black-and-white waves of "sand" that show on the screens at the beginning of the song.
"Sand" is a short, bass-heavy song that began life as a song written for one of Trey's many side projects in 1998 before Phish started also playing it a year later. Since then, it's been a mainstay in both Trey Anastasio Band and Phish setlists, though the former tends to augment it with horn lines and the latter with monster jams.
Here, the monster jam starts at 3:21, with what sounds to my useless ears at least to be a key change. Trey takes the lead in the ensuing improvisation pretty much right away, using an aggressive tone that cuts through the rest of the band. It's worth mentioning, though, that Mike is really going to town throughout this section, too.
Around 4:20, Trey's tone gets even more distorted and grungier, and a weird shape starts forming on the screens above the band. It's a bit hard to hear, but at this point, Trey and Page are trading some melodic ideas back and forth in a way that's really cool. We get an even grungier tone from Trey around 5:15.
Around 5:30, it feels like Mike pulls the rest of the band into a more abstract space with his playing, and right around then the sand waves change to become a bit more...complicated? I have no idea if this was on purpose, but it suits the direction of the jam, for sure.
At 6:10, Trey switches to a clearer tone and starts playing something that reminds me a bit of the "Wingsuit" melody. At the same time, his clear playing has this fun dissonance when set up aside Page's extremely distorted keys and Mike and Fishman's non-linear, circular playing. This tension resolves around 7:30, when the band as a whole seems to coalesce around a bright, ambient space. I'm really appreciating Page's (re?) dedication to synths here.
The next little bit is one of those wonderful Phish moments that's sort of indescribable to me: all four members sound locked in completely to dedication to the same idea and the music sounds like nothing I've ever heard any other "jam band" play. It's great, and it seems silly to try to describe it rather than letting it speak for itself.
Thoughts that came to mind during this part of my relisten:
Who or what is Jon Fishman?
How many synths can Page play at once?
How does Trey play a coherent melody during this madness?
Was Mike Gordon raised by wolves?
Around 11:00, Trey finally latches onto a repeating melody that slowly pulls the band out of the formless, ambient space they've been floating in. Mike joins in first, then whatever Fishman has been doing coalesces (mostly) into a drum beat normal humans can recognize. Page is apparently like "Eh, I'll just keep playing synths over here."
Oh, nevermind, he jumps on the electric piano at about 12:00.
Around 12:30, the band collectively seems to start building some momentum behind Trey's playing, but it's definitely a patient, gradual thing. It's not really until 14:50 that the jam starts to move out of the ambient space in earnest. At 15:20, Trey once again takes a more typical, assertive lead with a solo, and though the rest of the band continues flavoring the jam with bits and pieces of the ambient space that came before, we're clearly headed somewhere else now.
By 16:30, the band is almost in a "Bathtub Gin"-sounding major key space, and it feels like we're either about to embark on some new exploration or that this is going to be the exclamation point at the end of this already-fantastic version of "Sand."
It's the latter, with a bullet.
Trey has this ability to just go from zero to sixty in a guitar solo in a way that I've never heard anyone else do. Most of the time it's fantastic, though some of the time it happens in a way that doesn't feel in tune with the rest of the band, or feels "unearned," and then it feels more frustrating than cathartic.
His sudden jump here at 16:55, coming as it does at the end of nearly fifteen minutes of contemplative, peaceful jamming, is freaking glorious. I love how the rest of the band immediately shifts into gear behind him, too. It reminds me a ton of the end of one of my favorite jams that I've ever seen in person, the "Ghost" from 8/29/14. The visuals behind the band just erupting at this point is the icing on the cake.
And in case you needed a pitch-perfect drop back into "Sand" to round things out, it's at 18:49.
The video cuts off before exposing us to a huge version of "Tweezer" that's arguably even better than this "Sand," somehow. Sheesh.

omg pls pls post one bran meta 💔
i’ll give a rant for also loving my boy while i polish some stuff up but-
I am very much a “bran will be king” truther, i think there’s a lot of evidence for that that people kinda looked past bc they don’t find him interesting, bc they got into this series for the politics and not like, the fantasy aspects lol, but I do have like several ~scenarios~ for him, it’s just that “king of what’s left of westeros” is my favorite bc of the bittersweet aspect of it.
but part of why i think bran’s ending is kind of hard for everyone to grasp, is bc the show just didn’t give a shit about him (like, STATED they didn’t care about the fantasy aspects & i love to shittalk miguel & ryan & sara but at least they are Aware And Excited about the magic aspects of Terros). book readers tend to overlook him in favor of dany (the other big magical character) because george finds writing bran difficult and writing dany easier so we have like 50 dany chapters for every one of bran’s. but whereas there’s several dany chapters dedicated to world building, character introspection, magic, and politics EACH, bran gets all those themes kinda rolled up into these fleeting, monster chapters that are dense as fuck to read. EYE don’t mind that, but giving him like a third the amount of chapters as dany (or jon or tyrion or arya) is just REALLY setting that kid up to fail. but george has really explicitly stated he struggles with characters that are young, and he’s clearly talking about bran (probably sansa, sometimes arya as well) so it’s kinda. i get his struggle!! but he also clearly loves bran as a character bc the chapters we get are real rich!
but d&d don’t even give us what’s on the page bc they do not care!!! so it’s so hard to really pin down what the fuck is going on with bran, bc i truly think they cut most of the notes george gave them about bran, possibly even gave parts of his story to others bc “it would be cooler”, and then used him almost exclusively for exposition & shock value. like, for all we know, the long night is also very short in the books bc of something bran did while in the north, but those two thought it would be cooler if it was just one battle.
[sidebar but like i mean, also jon is a big magical character, but rn jon is less “a magical character” and more “a character that has magic happen to him” bc he’s still a bit uncomfortable about being a warg, bc the logistics & morality of it freak him out. honestly that’s a good thing for jon, bc look at what “do magic first ask questions later” has gotten dany and bran (and theoretically robb). being inside ghost is certainly going to change his outlook on magic & cause another identity crisis, but i don’t think the magical side is where jon is going to struggle morally]
[also i do think the long night is likely to be a little longer, because i think they’re getting to the trident, but potentially they only fuck the north and riverlands and not anywhere else because of something bran does. idk man. for all he goes on about aragorn’s tax policies, he has done with the wights & others exactly what’s done with the orcs. makes me wonder if there’s some plot about the others that involves bran befriending & humanizing a section of them & d&d went “that’s weird and boring” and cut it, like the way the director for i am legend changed the ending to that suicide grenade scene even tho the book ending is so objectively better that will smith said he’s gonna do a second movie but with the cut ending aksjjd. my evidence so far for that is like, negative evidence, which doesn’t make for good meta, so i’m excited to get to adwd so i can reread bran’s chapters in like, ya know, a year 😭]

WELCOME TO OUR THIRD ANNUAL COMIX OF THE YEAR SHOWCASE!
Boy, what a year it’s been for comics! I’ve read 126 completed series this year (with a grand total of 313 series over all, and that’s not counting single issues or currently ongoing series!) and I’ve come to actually own 558 physical single issues!
If last year I talked about falling deeper in love with the medium, then this year I’ve dedicated myself to learning its history by getting into books & magazines about comics -- the (presently available) entirety of Alter Ego, Back Issue!, Comic Book Creator/Artist, All-Star Companion Vol. 1-3, The Golden Age of Comic Fandom and Our Artists at War have been some of my favourite things to read this year and they haven’t made this list solely because I’m talking comics and only comics, but please know they’ve meant a great deal to me and have already influenced me deeply and contributed to the kind of reader/fan I’ve become and would like to continue being. Hell, I’ve even gotten to experience the once-unthinkable honour of writing for Back Issue! and interviewing some of my heroes!
And speaking of once-unthinkable things, the fact that we’ve gotten a total of three JSA books complete with an ongoing this year? I don’t even have words for what that means to me! Suffice to say, it’s been THE year of comics as far as I’m concerned. So, without further ado, here’s our winners:
The New Golden Age (2022) It’s a one-shot but my god, what a one-shot it is! This book is what every longtime fan of the original Justice Society of America has dreamed of for decades, eager to acknowledge the team’s entire history across the years and its significance along with adding something new and exciting to the old and revered. I cried reading this, which is admittedly true for most things I love, but it’s a book like this that illustrates perfectly what the Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide had meant in 1995 when they’d called the creation of the team second only to the invention of the superhero. I can’t think of a more beautiful way to announce the coming of a new JSA era!
Doomsday Clock (2017) A very take-it-or-leave-it kinda book, I know, and the intensity with which I came to love Doomsday Clock was a surprise even to myself but I genuinely believe it’s the series of the past decade. End of. It takes a special kind of fan to love what it says and does and means but a story about grief and love and legacy, a story that’s in effect about comic book history, that puts the JSA -- Alan Scott, specifically -- at its centre? You know I’m gonna be there. The ending in particular made me sob like no comic ever has before and when Jon understood Superman’s true purpose, I finally did too. “The rocket arrives. A child is loved. Superman is made.” That changed it all for me. I think Doomsday is also one of those rare books where a happy ending is a legitimately daring narrative choice, and the risk is more than worth it. One last stray thought to finish up this section: I’ve legitimately never found a more frighteningly real, deliciously well-written gay story in comics like Carver Colman’s entire arc here.
Before Watchmen: Minutemen (2012) Minutemen’s a book that likes to linger in its hurt, like pressing on a bruise for the hell of it and sitting with the ache. We know the outcome from the very first page, and Darwyn Cooke’s art is as melancholy as his writing. I’ve come back to this one again and again, sometimes just to look at it. As a Golden Age of Comics lover and enjoyer, the tragedy (the shipwreck!) of the Minutemen is precisely what I’ve always understood as implicit to the JSA and to see it all spelled out made it an absolute favourite in an instant.
Watchmen (1986) Hey, this list’s already dominated by Watchmen-adjacent books so, why not the original? My first thought upon finishing it was that the hype had been real this whole time and I couldn’t believe I’d lived my life blissfully unaware of everything this book has to offer. It’s still timeless, it still hits hard and it’s still a testament to the kind of love for comics that Alan Moore will never again show (and that Geoff Johns followed up perfectly in Doomsday Clock despite what you might’ve heard, after all at the core of Watchmen lies a truly encyclopedic knowledge of comic books and that’s a thing born out of love alone). All that being said, it ranks where it does because what’s always interested me in Watchmen has been the shadow of the story underneath the story, that of the Minutemen.
Nathaniel Dusk (1984)/Nathaniel Dusk II (1985) The quintessential film noir, in comic book form. Gene Colan’s art makes the miniseries but Dusk is a truly unique outing no matter how you look at it, and its status as ostensibly set in the real world makes it all that more fascinating. Nathaniel Dusk is a hardboiled detective whose career is marred by too-personal tragedy, and the book’s custom-made for anybody’s who’s as big on character studies and character-driven pieces as I am.
Manhunter (1973) There’s a lot that’s special about Archie Goodwin and Walt Simonson’s most enduring creation, there’s no doubt about that, but I loved Manhunter so much it gave way to something within me that I’ve genuinely never experienced before: the day after I finished reading it I went out and bought the hardcover, the week after that I got the action figure, and by now I’ve bought every single special or trade these Detective Comics (1937) #437-443 backups have ever been collected or appeared in. It’s a story that begs to be interacted with in some real tangible way, that’s all I can say! James Robinson spoke once about what a phenomenon this had been when it’d first came out -- with its then-novel use of ninjas, violence like something out of an exploitation film, the very serious matter of a man killing to regain his identity (his soul!) and ultimately dying having done so -- but there’s no denying the impact hasn’t lessened any. Among the comics of any era, Manhunter is a stark outlier and a necessary breath of fresh air.
Flashpoint Beyond (2022) This little series somehow manages to outshine the event of the summer and just about all that’s followed it. Ostensibly a tie-in to Dark Crisis and theoretically bridging the gap between Doomsday Clock and The New Golden Age (year of Geoff Johns anyone?), what Flashpoint Beyond really is beyond all the pretexts is a deep-dive into a deeply traumatized man’s psyche. The book’s primary conflict is man vs. narrative as Flashpoint Thomas fights and fights against the very story he’s in until he can’t anymore. He refuses to play the hero the inhabitants of the Flashpoint world expect him to be but his rallying cry of ‘nothing matters’ because he’s seen his life destroyed twice over is ignored even by the story insisting him on placing him in the ill-fitting role of Batman, and the construction of this book is certainly something to see.
Cinder & Ashe (1988) I’m a great big fan of character-driven pieces, as we already know, and an even bigger fan of standalone miniseries that you simply can’t put down, throw in Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez’s art in the mix and I’m unlikely to ever stop thinking about it. At its heart, Cinder & Ashe is a story about the Vietnam war but it’s also a harrowing mystery thriller set in New Orleans and an exploration of racism, the military complex, and two lives consumed by grief. There’s very little I can say that won’t spoil the story but it’s here for a reason and I’d be willing to call it a legitimate all-time favourite by now.
The Night Force (1982) This is a real gem of DC’s horror/supernatural line and most certainly Marv Wolfman’s best work despite his decades in the business. A thoroughly entertaining and wildly compelling book, Night Force accomplishes the incredible feat of successfully balancing a main character that’s a complete enigma with a supporting cast of fallible all-too-human, all-too-real characters. If Baron Winters’ entry into the DC Universe at large is its most lasting impact, then Jack Gold is its true protagonist. As far as I’m concerned, there’s few sequences as sincerely terrifying and viscerally uncomfortable as the climax in issue #7 as Jack lies to save his life -- to save the world -- and the narration goes something like “He must spend a lifetime with this woman he does not care about. He does not love her, yet… yet there is that thing deep within Vanessa, that darkness that may again rise forth if she ever learned the truth. And Jack Gold cries. The horror is all his, the horror is all his.” I think about this so much and so often! For the obvious reasons, it’s quite possibly my favourite -- and one of the earliest -- gaycoded character arcs I’ve ever read.
Scribbly (1948) I’m a humor book aficionado, I’m practically Keith Giffen’s #1 fan, I read Ambush Bug (& Son) every time I’m feeling down, I like to think I know my stuff from Sugar & Spike to Bizarro Comics and whatever else you’ve got but-- Shelly Mayer’s Scribbly is a revelation. The grandfather of all humor comics and first published in 1936 by Dell Comics ‘till his move to All-American and then the above solo at National Comics (a man of the world!), the eponymous boy cartoonist is Mayer’s autobiographical creation and makes for one of the most startlingly clever, laugh-out-loud funny books I’ve read in my entire life. Scribbly isn’t just a fascinating case study in where the majority of gags we now take of granted originated or likely the world’s first autobiographical comic strip, it’s also sincerely creative, shockingly modern and firmly in a class of its own!

COMIC STORIES YOU SHOULD READ,,,  ... The complete LIST and ARTICLE of MINE I talked you about...
As presented to CBR , PASTE magazine, (I even wrote to a Playboy editor whose data I found for their culture sections, lol, but don´t worry, there´s nothing your kids cannot read in this article, it´s completely the opposite, it´s an article engineered to fit practically to ALL AUDIENCES everywhere!!!)     and other internet sources in the last days of 2017, David del Real. _________________________________________________________________________________________________ 13 Comic Stories You Should Read Be4 You Die! List by: David del Real. First: Easy! With the title I don´t mean you or me are going to die anytime soon!!! Second: Yes, some stories I will talk about are a bit terrifying, but I promise all of them are terrific!!! Third: This list is not arranged from "lesser good to greatest good" . To decide which one is the best is your job. I´m arranging more or less from the most approachable (both because maybe it´s a famous character and easy storyline) to the most intricate and difficult, but ok, I admit numbers one and two are my favorite. Fourth: I am not going to tell you so many spoilers that you don´t want to read the stories, I will tell you only what you need to know to help you find your next great read in the closest comics or convenience store near you. ENJOY!!! Number 13: Superman, Peace on Earth. Story by: Alex Ross and Paul Dini Text by: Paul Dini Art by: Alex Ross. Superman created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. Superman stands in front of the US Congress with an idea: To stop hunger in the world for one day. He will take all the unharvested food and share it with anyone with hunger in the world. It´s one of the simplest story-lines ever but also one of the few that has made my eyes feel wet. A great choice for parents and uncles that are searching for a good old inspiring tale to read to the young. Number 12 And They Shall Call Him Champion. Written by: Tom DeFalco. Artist: Ron Wilson. Colorist: George Roussos. An intergalactic villain wants to fight the most awesome fighters in the Universe to see if someone can defeat him, will any of Earth´s champions will be able to defeat this villain and thus, save the Earth from being destroyed? Trust me, this is a classic fable of our time that you will want to read once a year for inspiration Number 11 The Adventures of Cyclops and Phoenix Writer: Scott Lobdell Artist: Gene Ha. Colourist: Kevin Somers. Published by MARVEL comics. Cyclops and Phoenix are taken to the future with a very singular mission: to raise Nathan, the one who will become Cable and will save the future and that is actually their son from another reality (or could he be from this one?). One condition for the success of the mission is that they can´t reveal him that they are his real parents. They will take care of Nathan using bodies made somehow alike the ones they have in the 20th Century and the nicknames of Redd and Slim. Number 10: Superman: World Without A Superman Writers: Jerry Ordway, Louise Simonson, Roger Stern, etc... Artists: Walter Simonson, Tom Grummett. Jon Bogdanove, etc... Colorists: Dennis Janke, Walter Simonson, Doug Hazlewood, etc.. Superman created by: Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. Published by: DC Comics. Death of Superman was a comic that broke many sales records, nevertheless, in terms of story-telling I prefer the next story: World Without A Superman. Superman is death and now the world has to deal with it. How will his most beloved react? Which will be the reaction of the different Superheroes to this demise? We see a very complete gathering of Superheroes remembering Superman and agreeing to put a black piece of fabric in everybody´s arm as a way of remembering him. We see everybody from Louis Lane to every member of the JLA trying to cope with the demise...and we see the Linear Men, who are dedicated to fix time paradoxes considering if they should bring Superman back to life by preventing his death!!! Number  9 Fantastic Four vs. The X-Men. Writers: Chris Claremont. Artists: Jon Bogdanove. Colorists: Terry Austin. Published by: MARVEL COMICS. My main reason to set this comic in the list is the fact that it shows something that happens to people who have had a dairy once in their lives. If they read it some years later, they can feel surprised of having written those words for one reason or another, this story exploits well that surprise. Kitty Pride from the X-Men is terribly ill. The Fantastic Four go X-Men´s Muir Island in order to help but some misunderstandings make the two teams fight each other and make the X-Men search desperately for someone else´s help. Dr. Doom offers his aid and the X-Men accept it even when , obviously, they don´t trust him. This is a story for both the life of Kitty Pride and the very soul of the Fantastic Four. Number  8 Batman: A Death In The Family Writer: Jim Starlin Art: Jim Aparo Colorist: Mike De Carlo Published by: DC Comics. This was the first comic ever that made me cry. I remember myself crying over the bed and could not believe my eyes watching an also-crying Batman with the corpse of a Boy Wonder on his arms...Also notice that this is the only triad of creators (Starlin, Aparo and De Carlo) that appears twice in this list. Robin (Jason Todd) and Batman have had a lot of discussions lately. Robin begins to investigate and arrives to the realization that he is not really an orphan, his mother is alive and maybe willing to see him as much as he wants to see her. Betrayed to the Joker by his own mother, Robin gets beaten to death and this event will ever remain a burden in the soul of the dark protector of Gotham. NUMBER  7 Witchblade, any issue. Main writers: David Wohl, Cristina Z, Marc Silvestri, etc... Main artists: Michael Turner, Dan Kemp, Keu Cha, ,Marco Galli, Marc Silvestri,etc... Main colorists: Jonathan D. Smith, Peter Steigerwald, etc... Published by: Top Cow Productions from Image Comics. Beautiful and very job-committed detective Sara Pezzini inherits the most deathly weapon of all; a mystical object called the "Witchblade" which has passed from one bearer to another for centuries, being all its carriers beautiful, brave and justice oriented women. Very sensitive and overwhelmed by work and the recent decease of her mate ,Sara is the bearer of the Witchblade in our days...but of course it won´t be an easy task as that kind of power  is  obsessively searched by the forces of evil. NUMBER  6 Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Story by: Frank Miller Art by: Frank Miller Colors: Klaus Janson Published by: DC Comics This is a story that most comic fans and historians agree that changed the comics forever, giving us a very adult tale written with a character that was part of our childhoods. I will only plot the very beginning of the story and let you people discover the rest. For the ones wanting for more reasons to read this comic, in the last volume we will see a Batman v. Superman fight that pretty much inspired many of the subsequent fights between superheroes, including many of those starring by these two characters. We are in Gotham City, its the tenth anniversary of the last time the vigilante called as Batman was seen. The city has changed a lot and there is a lot of crime in our new city. There is a group of criminals called  "The Mutants" that rule the streets. Batman will have to leave his retirement comfort to save his city once again and in the process he will have to deal with new enemies and with a new self-proclaimed Robin: a little but very intelligent and brave girl who saves his life after an humiliating defeat against the mutants´ leader. NUMBER  5 Hulk: Future Imperfect. Written by: Peter David Art: George Pérez Colorist: Tom Smith Published by: MARVEL Comics. The future is a complete mess with a tyrannic version of our Hulk ruling it with steel-hand. Rick Johns, the one that Dr. Banner once saved from a Gamma Explosion and old Hulk´s best friend, realizes that only Hulk can defeat Hulk and plots a plan to bring his old friend, the heroic Hulk from the past to defeat his tyrannic version of the future. NUMBER  4 Preacher, Gone To Texas. Written by: Garth Ennis. Artist: Steve Dillon. Colorist: Matt Hollingsworth. Foreword by: Joe R. Landsdale. Published by: DC Comics, Vertigo. If you are searching for a non-conventional story with a lot of existential crisis and mixed ideologies and mythologies ( Angels, demons, vampires,whatever, etc..) this is the comic you need. Jesse, a very conscious and responsible preacher gets beaten in the local bar because of telling everybody´s terrible crimes (and believe me, they are!!!) in public and accusing them of going to his church on Sundays and acting like savages the other days of the week. Also, in Heaven there is a great fuss because of a singular creature born from the affairs of an angel with a she-demon and that is said that can be as powerful as God himself. This singular creature merges his essence with Jesse during a Sunday´s speech while setting the church on fire with his entrance into this world........and then.......I think this will do, I´ll let you people find out for yourselves... don´t google, go and buy! NUMBER  3: Batman: The Seven Nights of the Beast Written by: Jim Starlin Artist: Jim Aparo Colorist: Mike De Carlo Published by: DC Comics Batman created by: Bob Kane This is one of the comics I usually recommend to people who has never read a comic and ask for a good story to start with. The reason of this is its enormous realism and credibility. Most comic stories tended to be set in very "black and white" scenarios when this comic first appeared in the eighties, meaning that the good and the bad side are always very clearly defined. In our days, more and more comics, cartoons and movies are made using the "not so clear to define good from bad" approach, and I´m pretty sure this was one of the comics that influenced that change. A war veteran from the old U.S.S.R. comes to the U.S.A. with one goal: to kill the top ten names of the Defense System of the nation. There are very probably spies inside the C.I.A. and other government agencies that make protect these top ten people difficult. The president of the U.S.A. is "abducted" by Batman by means of his own protection. TRIVIA: Ronald Reagan, president of the U.S.A. (1981-1989), appears as a character in this comic. NUMBER 2 Thor: God of Thunder The God Butcher & GodBomb. Writer: Jason Aaron. Art: Nick Klein ,Esad Ribic, Butch Guice. Colorist: Tom Palmer, Ive Svorcina, etc... Variant Covers: Olivier Coipel & Laura Martin. Published by MARVEL Comics. Terror has been spread around all the gods of all the planets in the universe as the rumor begins to look closer and closer. There is someone capable of killing gods and has been getting rid of them one by one, city after city, planet after planet. Thor has already had an encounter with him centuries ago but failed in ultimately defeating him. This story, that has the peculiarity of telling us the different adventures from three different times simultaneously gives us both the flavor of being reading an old greek or norse tragedy when he tells us about the first adventures of Thor when he was young and his first encounter with the God Butcher, and the bouquet of a futuristic tale when counting us of the present fights of Thor...and the final fight with the Butcher at the end of all times when he has already succeeded in the Throne to his father, Odin and is ready to fight for the sake of all the universe in all the times (past,present and future) possible!!!!!!!!!!!! NUMBER  1: The Last Avenger Story Written by: Peter David. Art: Ariel Olivetti Published by: Marvel Comics. We find ourselves in a possible future, where most of our most known heroes are death, sick or retired. Most of the active superheroes for that future are gathered in the same facility. Easy for the bad guys: they just throw a Nuclear Bomb to the facility and good-bye heroes...well good-bye young heroes. Now, it´s up to the remaining of the Superhero teams you know to defend the Earth with all they´ve got for one last time...united they will fall. About our author: David is a graduated engineer from Mexico with a huge passion for the arts. He also has some acting experience in TV. commercials and series. Follow him on twitter as @DavidRealActor Additional data: Most of the stories of this list can be acquired just by asking by their names as most of them are already in "graphic novel" version. Nevertheless I want to give you the original magazine title and number how they were first published (when applicable). Superman: Peace on Earth. January 1999. DC COMICS. And They Shall Call Him Champion. Published originally in Marvel 2 in 1 Annual volume 1 number 7. MARVEL COMICS.1982. The Adventures of Cyclops and Phoenix. Originally published as a 4 issues miniseries with that name. 1994. MARVEL COMICS. Superman. World Without a Superman. i'm only halfway through your fic but already i'm soooo appreciative of details you've paid to things like who manscapes? that's something you just don't get from many writers (dare i say perhaps because most are female?) and i LOVE that mike wouldnt have even given it much thought, this is immediately canon to meeeee. whereas will, groomed boi that turned up like THAT at the airport? oh yes sir he buys specially dedicated scissors/clippers at the very LEAST. (side note - i reallllllly hope a scene of jon teaching will how to shave his newly-appearing facial hair features in s5 pleassssseeee such good exposition for 'theyre growing up' !)
and i love the way you write about them playing with the underwear fabric - something i find missing from fic in general too, which is odd cos all genders can and do wear underwear, and its kind of hot to play with for any gender? i dont mean lingerie or sexy lace either - just your average underwear is such a nice way to tease.
what do you think of the underwear they've chosen for the show? we saw mike in his white briefs and vest, and i imagine will to have underwear that's more reflective of his family's money (even though they seemingly had more in s4), whereas mike's looked like his mom still bought his and they were standard. (a great detail considering that eddie teased him about his mom buying his clothes - it seems that beneath the hellfire shirt, he is still his true self, wearing those mom-bought undies). i think even though will's underwear will probs be a bit less expensive, it'll also be nicer and cooler in a way? whereas briefs are very...80s? idk. just not flattering lol. but i also can't see will in checkered boxers like jon wears cos his pants are way too tight. what do you think?
Oh, this is so sweet, thank you 🥲 I am such a slut for hyper specific details. I tend to overthink everything and hyper-visualize but I think that's the fun part. I love reading so many different writing styles but I tend to go for super realistic myself? I'm glad my body hair hcs were appreciated haha. Sometimes I pause and think - is this too weird? But no, it's interesting. And hot. And in character. Yes. Let's go.
And oooooh I must say, I am still in disbelief they went with that opening scene for mike? in the tighty whiteys?!? good for them, we thank you for your film-making decisions. I kind of love that he's soooo basic. Mommy probably bought them (ew that sounded so weird but I am not backspacing HAHA). But it's an interesting character detail! Would he eventually put thought into wearing something nicer once he's dating Will, a boy who he hopes will routinely see him undressed? Or is he so unphased by that sort of thing? I honestly don't think Mike will put too much thought into it. They work. And Will kinda likes it. It's classic. I'm sure Will grew up on sneaking away with the Sears catalog to look at the men's sections. Classic basics might be a formative awakening for him as sexually confused young man (as is tradition for many........)
As for Will, I'm sure when he gets the chance, he gets nicer stuff. He likes looking good, feeling good. Patterns, different cuts depending on his choice of pants. Especially with those skin tight light wash denims he favors! He is so not a 5 pack kmart boxers kinda guy if he had the option, ya know??? Absolutely not. If he's matching his little belts to his fits, he's picky about what goes underneath.

Liveblogging TMA - Season 2 - MAG 41-45
"Trust can get you killed."
TOO DEEP :
First episode of season 2 !
Or otherwise called "Jon's Paranoid Era". Here's to hoping it's just a phase.
When I first started the episode, I thought that Jonathan sounded kind of unstable in his statement, unhinged in a way that didn't suit him.
Turns out, he is ! But he is also aware of it, and self aware enough to use it to his advantage and make people focus on the wrong things. Which is good, I think, though I'd rather he wouldn't be alone in this endeavour.
He won't be for long, I'm sure, but knowing that Not-Sasha is here is putting me on edge, and I am glad that she is not aware of what he's planning. If Martin or Tim were, I'm sure they'd probably end babbling about it to her.
Elias is not even worth thinking of.
Robert Smirke and his architecture have made a comeback, and a new mystery is to be added. The tunnels, and who controls them. Is it the being that is watching him ? But then, why would it, whatever it is, go look through the files whenever nobody's there, as shown in the trailer ? What was it doing before the tunnels were discovered, was it trapped there ? Surely not, if Gertrude went there herself.
If she did at all, anyway.
The plot is advancing, and Jonathan's sanity has taken a plundge. Personally, while I do think that Prentiss is dead, it doesn't mean that the Hive is, I am calling bullshit on this one.
Still, entertaining episode and strong season opener.
Onto the next one !
GRIFTER'S BONE :
HELL YES MUSIC BABY !
Music so beautiful, it makes you violent, music so good, it makes you kill yourself because you just know that you will never hear anything as good ever again and what's the point of living if you can't ?
Oh, I loved this one.
Not much else to say about the oddity though. Grifter has probably made the same kind of contract or whatever it was that Angela from "Piecemeal" jiggsaw demon did, the ability to make the most beautiful music at the price of the lives of the people who hear it, or something like that.
A little cameo of the Dreamer (or Oliver as his name probably is), trying to warn the poor girl before it's too late.
The things stubborness and curiosity makes us do.
Speaking of Jon though, our dear is slipping more and more, he already sounds more perturbed than in the last episode, but to be fair to him, what the fuck was even that Martin ? I am going toassume that his mother is dead or something, otherwise why he wouldn't just send her a text and have a conversation with her is beyond me.
For what it's worth, I am pretty positive that Martin isn't the one who killed Gertrude. Again, I don't trust him, but that's mostly because I don't really believe that people like him exist without hiding something, which was confirmed this episode !
Whether or not his secret is dangerous is another matter though.
Pretty sure his sudden bouts of mastery is just his dedication trying to impress Jonathan though.
Those two are probably SO shipped by the fandom, I just know it.
SECTION 31 :
"The words you learn to look out for are “weird”, “odd”, “strange” and if you hear the phrase “I’m not quite sure what I’m looking at”, then yeah, you’re not getting much back-up."
EVERYONE SHUT UP, JON MADE A JOKE !!
Oh my God, we're getting more lore on the functionning of society in TMA, I am screaming. This is amazing, perfection, show stopping. I need more of that, please and thank you, gimma aaaaall the world building. I do want to learn more about the oddities, but I also really want to know how the world outside of the Institute works. Let Jonathan have a supernatural cop buddy.
He's already so alone, and so tired and unsettled. Let him get a friend that he is sure won't be coming after him.
Anyway, we got the name of the man from "First Aid", the one calling for the scorching demon, lightless light, whatever its name is.
The way the police force work is fascinating though.
Basira probably have been implicated in some of the statements we read. I remember some mentionning a female cop ? But considering that those never got really resolved, I have to assume that she didn't even realize that they were genuine cases. Working with Jonathan could potentially broaden her horizons quite a bit, and maybe she could learn the ways to actually protect people from those oddities.
I wonder, was she the one who went on to check on Not-Garam, from "Across the Street" ? If, maybe, she suspected something, I wonder if she would get implicated in the Not-Sasha thing, then.
And what happened to the Leitner of Diego Molina, that made Spencer kill himself ? Did Diego get it back ? Before getting killed by Gerard, anyway.
Plus, the whole guy who tried to kill himself. I have genuinely no clue as to what is happening here, maybe another immortal like the one in "Cheating Death" trying to die ? What with the ancient looking dominos in glass cases. She never mentionned anything happening after that. Maybe it was the same guy that made the statement, actually ! Nathaniel Thorp. I guess he was tired, and decided that living in hell wasn't actually worth it, compared to death.
I could see it.
From the little list, we also got spider-husks ("Arachnophobia" link ?) and vampires ("Obviously, from "Vampire Killer". I wonder if she ever met the hunter before he died.).
Lots of call backs and links to be made, that the police never realized because they never got a hand on those statements. Fascinating.
But anyway, next episode !
Considering the title, am I to understand we'll get a "Circus of the Other" statement ?
TIGHTROPE :
HOLY SHIT IT'S A GERTRUDE'S RECORDING !!
~~~~~~~~~~
"I wouldn’t have had to find this tape player tucked away in the storage room, covered in dust and cobwebs."
And it was, indeed, a "Circus of the Other" sighting ! Grandiose.
Great episode, as usual. This season didn't have a boring one yet, it's amazing.
I didn't expect to get a Gertrude's statement full on so early, but it was amazing. I really enjoyed her voice, though I kind of felt that Jonathan somewhat put more ... I don't know, emotions to them ? She did too, but the difference between her voice as she recites the statement and her archivist voice isn't as ... Stark as Jon's is, at least to me.
Still, it is there, and means that whatever is pushing Jon to make the statements the way he does has been here for a long, long time, and doing the same for each and every of the archivists.
More information on the circus, which I have been curious about, especially considering that whatever has destroyed statements at the end of last season took the time to destroy the one about the calliope. It never really made sense, and it still doesn't, to be honnest.
More about Denikin, the granfather who had the calliope, and who was apparently pretty violent and evil ? Considering where he was working at anyway. So what, one day he just decided he didn't want to murder and defigurate people to put them in a show with his friends and just ... Retired ? No consequences ? Peaceful end of his life ?
Goddamn.
What was the goal of this circus though ? And why did they suddenly decide to come to England ? Between Denikin and Breekon and Hope, does this mean the others from the circus troupe, (the ones that were actually crew and not puppets or disfigured victims at least) also came to England ? Is it because of the Leitners ? Probably not.
"Unfortunately, he appears to have passed away in 1984, but he must have been something rather special."
This quote intrigues me though. I hope to see a statement about the man some day, to understand what she means by that.
Back to Gertrude Robinson though, contrary to what Jonathan thought, she did know that something was happening. Actually, she probably (definitely) knows more than Jonathan himself ever has. I guess it makes sense, considering that she was the Head Archivist for 50 years.
Does this mean that she was faking not knowing, or being incompetent, to hide whatever she knew from being discovered ? Are all Archivists destined to become paranoid messes ?
And talking about paranoid messes, Jon is slipping, little by little. Suspicious of everyone, which, again, it's good ! Because Not-Sasha. But also, if he's gonna lose his marbles anyway, he could have been smart earlier and think to hide the tapes himself BEFORE, instead of letting them into his drawer.
Better late than never, I guess. Here's to hoping it wasn't anything.
... I think this post could fit another episode.
BLOOD BAG :
"Not just malaria though, but yellow fever, hepatitis B and signs of cholera."
Can we please stop with the bloody insects, for FIVE FUCKING MINUTE ???
Urgh, whatever. First miss of the season for me, though it was still good, just not something that spoke to me.
Onto the case itself. Again with the diseases and the insects and the blergh. An act by the Hive, maybe ? Or Asag, the demon/oddity of diseases and stuff.
Did the scientist really exchange his syringe for money ? I doubt he did it for another item. Maybe the syringe was protecting him, and when he gave it away, he stopped being protected ?
But then, why did he need to be protected ? Was the oddity after him, for some reason ? Maybe after his family, since it was mentionned that his ancestor had found a way to save people from cholera, which is ... Pretty significant. And I just know that oddities are petty enough to keep a grudge to last several centuries and generations.
Something else to notice is the emphasis on the type of blood it was in the bag. O negative. And infected with several, potentially deadly diseases that could kill any normal man.
... Unless he cheated death and somehow became an immortal with a wish to die.
Jonathan is slowly making his way through the team, which is worrying, but also good because Not-Sasha DOES need suspicion thrown at her, but I swear to God, if he goes easy on her or end up trusting her over any of his friends, I will find a way to reach through the screen and strangle him.
But I fear it might just go that way.
Because I know he is the most open with her. That she is the closest to him of them all, at least at this point in the story.
And Martin, with his hovering, is not helping with the trust issues.
Still, it was nice to have a bit of Timothy's background. I too am asking myself all of these questions.
The quote of the post will not be from TMA, but rather from Niccolò Machiaveli, an author I partcularly like, and who's quotes Jonathan this season has reminded me of, time and time again.
"Never was anything great achieved without danger."
End Liveblogging.
Julian Edwin "Cannonball" Adderley (September 15, 1928 – August 8, 1975) was an American jazz alto saxophonist of the hard bop era of the 1950s and 1960s.[2][3][4]
Adderley is perhaps best remembered for the 1966 soul jazz single "Mercy, Mercy, Mercy",[5] which was written for him by his keyboardist Joe Zawinuland became a major crossover hit on the pop and R&B charts. A cover version by the Buckinghams, who added lyrics, also reached No. 5 on the charts. Adderley worked with Miles Davis, first as a member of the Davis sextet, appearing on the seminal records Milestones (1958) and Kind of Blue(1959), and then on his own 1958 album Somethin' Else. He was the elder brother of jazz trumpeter Nat Adderley, who was a longtime member of his band"
It’s International Womens Day and I run a fantasy blog, so I am going to use this as an opportunity to list my favorite ladies in fantasy! This has loads of spoilers so only read each woman’s section if you have read her source material.
Shallan Davar-The Stormlight Archive
Tumblr media
I love a complicated queen. Shallan is buried under so many layers of trauma it’s hard to tell where the coping mechanisms end and the woman begins. Shallan is funny, resourceful, creative, and highly intelligent. She is also shattered and is barely able to hold herself together. Its not just the reader; Shallan herself doesn’t truly know who she is. Identity and determining what is real is the major theme of her arc. She’s an artist because she spends her whole life creating illusions so she can stand living in the world. She both seeks the truth and is terrified to face it, because she fears what’s on the other side. There are still a lot of mysteries about her past (why did her mother try to kill her? Was it just keeping the families secrets that drove her father mad, or was there a supernatural influence? What is the memory so terrible that she cannot allow it to surface?) that I absolutely cannot wait to see the resolution to.
Daenerys Targaryen-A Song of Ice and Fire
Tumblr media
First off, this isn’t about her character on the show. That is its own thing at this point. The Mother of Dragons and Breaker of Chains herself, she subverts expectations at every turn. She was born a princess, but her families dynasty was overthrown shortly after and she was smuggled across the sea to save her life. An orphaned exile who grew up homeless and was sold as a glorified sex slave for the befit her abusive brother as soon as she was old enough to menstruate, she was undoubtedly expected to die shortly after producing a male heir and get out of his way so he could retake the throne. Instead, she proves to be the one who has greatness within her and rises to power as a conqueror. She identifies with the enslaved and oppressed and goes as a mission to destroying unjust systems. In a series where most of the characters attitudes toward the vast majority of the population who don’t hold titles ranges from contempt to indifference (shoutout to Jon and Arya for being the other exceptions,) her choosing to become a champion of the powerless really resonates.
Egwene al’Vere-Wheel of Time
Tumblr media
(Credit to Queen Serena for this image which imo captures Egwene better than any other; there are no official or semi official ones)
Egwene is in many ways the most traditional fantasy protagonist. The daughter of an innkeeper from a rural farming village who discovers that she’s actually a powerful sorceress, she leaves home to pursue her destiny and fight the forces of evil. What really separates her from others who fit this trope (including others in the same series) is that she’s an enthusiastic participant in all of this. She is thrilled to discover she has magical powers. She eagerly embraces learning as much as possible, especially about her unique Talent of being able to travel within the world of dreams. When she is elected magic lady Pope as part of a conspiracy (just go with it,) instead of accepting her role as a puppet, she decides to rise to the occasion and become a legendary Amyrlin Seat who saves the White Tower from itself. Through harsh training, brutal imprisonment, and a notably horrific time as a slave, Egwene gets beaten but never allows herself to stay down. She rises in the face of hardship up until the very end and is a dedicated champion of the Light.
Rin Sohma-Fruits Basket
Tumblr media
I am going to actually include a manga character, because Fruits Basket does count as (low) fantasy, and she is my favorite girl in all of manga. Rin is a very damaged character, probably the most of any of the ones I’ve listed here (and there are some seriously troubled women on this list.) Severely abused by both her parents and the head of the family/god (just go with she’s under curse and it makes sense in context,) and eventually abandoned as a preteen, Rin has built a hard shell around herself. She has nonexistent self esteem, is outwardly cynical and cold to keep others away, struggles greatly with trust, and is determined to handle everything alone out of fear of being a burden or dragging others down with her. She is also among the bravest characters in the series, strong, passionate, protective of those she sees as vulnerable, and capable of tremendous sacrifice, with an intense and moving arc. And of course she’s an alt fashion icon.
5. Do you respond to comments, why or why not?
I really do try. Sometimes, though, I get a chapter ahead of actually responding and then I forget. I read every comment I get, but sometimes I answer things in my head and I think I've answered it. Sorry!
6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
Man In The Box - (Dramione)
7. What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?
In general, all my fics have happy endings, but we'll go with Legends because of all the babies!
8. Do you write crossovers? If yes, what’s the craziest thing you’ve written?
@frostbitepandaaaaa and I wrong a Black Panther/Game of Thrones cross-over but didn't finish it called What's West of Westeros.
I also started a Thor/Game of Thrones cross-over which I meant to be just cracky fun called Thunder and Dragons.
9. Have you ever received hate on a fic?
Yes. If you'd like to take a look at the hate, see the early chapters written for Sansa and Jaime for Love on the Brain or the entire comments section of Catch Us Where We Sleep.
10. Do you write smut? If so what kind?
Fic without smut... I just don't get the point. But yes, I write smut. And what kind? The smutty smutty kind. The face-sitting, spanking, hair-pulling, multiple orgasms kind.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I recall. But my memory is shit. If I have, I don't remember/know about it.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes, someone translated Love on the Brain to Japanese and Russian.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic?
What's West of Westeros - w/@frostbitepandaaaaa
If it wasn't for my co-writer @justwandering-neverlost, I would truly have given up.
You're My Favorite - w/@justwandering-neverlost Beginning Again - w/@justwandering-neverlost Dragon's Dark and Deep - w/@justwandering-neverlost Frost and Flame - w/@justwandering-neverlost NANANANANANANANA BATMAN! - w/@justwandering-neverlost for the Adventures of Daddy Jon Rewrite the Stars - w/@justwandering-neverlost Babes in Dance Land - w/@justwandering-neverlost for The Adventures of Daddy Jon The Pig and the Pool - w/@justwandering-neverlost for The Adventures of Daddy Jon Legends of Winter's Peak - w/@justwandering-neverlost Bound to Be Together - w/@justwandering-neverlost A Thousand Years - w/@justwandering-neverlost Need You - w@justwandering-neverlost A Knife In My Heart, Couldn't Slow Me Down - w/@justwandering-neverlost
14. What’s your all-time favourite ship?
I have to say that Jonerys has been the one I've dedicated years to, at this point. But Dramione pulls me back in even 18 years later, so...those two.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
I plan to finish them all. Stop asking.
16. What’re your writing strengths?
Dialogue. I can write it for pages and pages with no blocking and still know who's talking. Battle scenes. Something about describing death and dismemberment suits me.
17. What’re your writing weaknesses?
Aesthetics. Atmosphere. If it's not hot slutty atmosphere or we're waging war, I don't know how to tell you what the pretty room looks like. There's a chair. And they sit in it. Do you really need to know about the buttons or the high back?
18. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in fic?
Considering I don't have a firm grasp of the English language (thanks Alabama educational system), I try my damnedest to stay away from it. I think GoT is the only one I've dabbled but that's because I only make them say two or three words and not full sentences.
19. What was the first fandom you wrote for?
Gambit and Rogue - X-Men
20. What’s your favourite fic you’ve written?
If it's a fic I've written all by my lonesome, then Love on the Brain. I remember the focus I had for that fic. Like, I've never loved writing anything as much as when I started writing that story. But that sort of changed when I started writing with other people. My favorite collab I've done is definitely Legends of Winter's Peak. This story was a true labor of love for both of us. There are times where I will actually go back and re-read chapters that we wrote and I'll just think "i'll never write anything that good again".
Tagging @justwandering-neverlost, @meisiesmut, @rizzlewrites @pensbridgrton, @frostbitepandaaaaa, @xxthewolvenstormxx @jalenmara,
Do feel free to ignore if you already did it or just don't want to x
jonah magnusarchives
first impression - oh boy, let me see if I can remember. I don't think I thought much about Elias one way or another when he first showed up. I liked his voice and he seemed like an interesting background character, and also, honestly, I really liked his name and therefore wanted to be interested in him, but I didn't think too much of him.
(I can't actually remember what I felt the first time we got a Jonah statement. I think the first one was Albrecht's, if I recall? I found the Jonah statements sort of boring at first, actually.)
impression now - I am a Jonah Magnus fan first and a person second. I really love this evil Victorian bitch. I projected so many fun headcanons onto him and just really got into that side of the fandom and it was a ton of fun. his whole story is super compelling to me - his fear of death, the idea of remaking himself, the idea of dedicating his life to evil bureaucracy and outlasting everyone by being so boring no one paid any attention to him, plus the little hints that underneath that boring, fussy exterior is a truly unhinged human being (who also really enjoys scheduling)... there's just so much to like there.
favorite moment - "if you die, I'm afraid you probably won't be able to claim your expenses."
idea for a story - here's the TMA s5 fic that's sitting mostly written in my google docs but will probably never be published: after the eyepocalypse, Jonah starts to miss Peter, and decides to use his connection with Beholding to download Peter's memories and personality into a different body and see if he can't bring him back. it works... but imperfectly. the bodies keep dying and Peter, though he doesn't remember each successive life, gets more and more tired of being dragged out of his final rest to entertain Jonah. then, eventually, Martin and Jon show up, and Jonah finds his perfect vessel, and Peter is subjected to the eternal hell of being stuck sharing a brain with another person, eternally witnessed and known more intimately than anyone could ever know him. also, Jon and Martin aren't thrilled either.
unpopular opinion - uh. I hc him as trans which is pretty common among Jonah Enjoyers but pretty controversial in other, more annoying sections of the fandom? I think the idea of a trans man stealing bodies is very hot and sexy actually.
favorite relationship - oh his relationship with Peter for sure, but I also am really intrigued by his relationship with Martin and love me some Martinelias.
favorite headcanon - oh gotta go w the trans one again. I just think it honestly adds a delightful new dimension to his character - the idea that he had to recreate himself and claw his way into status in a society that was very hostile towards him, and then took his experiences of being hurt and oppressed and decided that rather than like, learn anything or develop compassion, he would simply accumulate enough power and control that no one could hurt him again and that he would be the one able to hurt others and decide their fates, that is just always a really compelling villain motivation to me. the revenge fantasy aspects of just giving in to the worst, most maladjusted, cruelest, most hateful impulses that come from being hurt, and just perpetuating the cycle with yourself as the driver of it - it's darkly compelling and I like to examine how someone can be simultaneously sympathetic and monstrous that way.
jonah’s stream of consciousness in MAG 193 - an analysis
I’m prepared to be proven wrong, of course, but I’d like to think think what Jonah is saying in the background of 193 is plot relevant.
The fact that there’s no punctuation means we could split the words in the wall of text (to a degree) any way we want to get a meaning. So because I’m extra, I decided to treat this like I would with a long poem, and picked a section to analyze in literary tidbits with commentary.
I assert the following excerpt is (or will be) about Martin, specifically how he might need to kill Jon at the end of S5.
upon the door is written not his name but words that mean no more to him than jumbled symbols twisting in the edges of his sight
So, a large portion of the Lonely in MAG 159 and 186 was dedicated to questioning how well Martin knows/loves Jon, and how well Martin knows himself. Does anyone know Martin, really? Throughout the show people seem to think Martin’s along for the ride, Jon’s plus one, a valet, an associate. There’s a constant theme in TMA of Martin not being understood, and of Martin not understanding right back (he’s trying to go with all of Jon’s statement stuff this season but it’s clear he can’t really ever fully get it).
For me, this part also conjures an image of s1 Martin standing outside the door to his inscrutable boss’s office with a cup of tea, wondering if he should knock.
Alternatively, we know that the fearpocalypse in 160 was ushered in by Jon opening a door. I’d hazard a guess that Martin might be the one to close that door, which could be what the line refers to here. But why would Martin do it and not Jon? ...yeah.
that tries to focus on the emptiness around him but the mist that curls its bitter weeping ache around his legs that bristle up with shivered gooseflesh stained with red
again, a callback to the Lonely
that’s not his blood
whose blood
he bled but this is not from him
a question, a concerned reaction. If it’s not Martin’s blood, whose blood is this?!
and yet he knows he loved this blood when once it beat within a heart that joined to his through choice or circumstance
It’s Jon’s blood.
Attributing the evolution of his and Martin’s relationship to choice OR circumstance is some heavy stuff. Is it both? Would they choose each other if things had been different? Would things be different if they hadn’t chosen each other? Do those answers matter?
but now it stains his weeping edges scarlet
gloating now of all the butchered ugly fates
Getting some serious Macbeth vibes from all the blood and fates here...
that might already have befallen what you still might boast he loves
The use of what here rather than he is interesting. Jon’s musings on his own humanity are the crux of the later seasons of TMA, but what about Martin’s humanity?
He has his own domain, he’s aligned with Jon/the Eye, and is somewhat immune to the fearpocalypse. He was well on his way to Lonely Avatar status even before this, and though Jon’s inhumanity crisis takes the front seat in seasons 4/5, there’s probably a part of Martin having the exact same struggle, just silently.
Nevertheless, the use of boast here sounds like both Jon and Martin are proud of the fact that the other loves that part of them anyway.
The defiance of love in the face of fear in the TMA universe is another post I already wrote, but it’s worth repeating here.
at hands that might be moved by others or that might just now be his
Jon’s fear of the Web and fear of being manipulated into his actions is another key aspect of TMA, and it’s clearly still a factor as we approach the finale. We have yet to find out what Annabelle’s big plan is, but based on her statement earlier in the show, there’s a fundamental question for Jon specifically about whether his actions are his own, or if he’s been a puppet the whole time.
Whatever Martin’s own relationship (or lack thereof) to the Web might be, it might be worth remembering Martin seems to keep being the wrinkle in the plans (as with the dog incident, his CV getting him into the Archives, his burning of statements in S3, and his choice to prevent Peter from winning the S4 wager). How much does Martin control his own role in all of this? Has he been manipulated here for the sole purpose of eliminating Jon?
If Martin does end up having to kill Jon and usher in that butchered ugly fate, will that even be his choice? And what would he prefer, if given the option:
Would knowing he was being manipulated assuage his guilt and grief?
Does choosing to do it on his own mean he honored the promise he made Jon in the tunnels in 191?
what have you done what have you done what have you done what have you done
whatever happens to Jon at Martin’s hands would probably stir that kind of reaction. Like, this part’s pretty self-explanatory; TMA sure is a tragedy horror podcast isn’t it :(
