Come to Bed
Tommy Shelby x Reader
Tumblr media
Warnings: smoking
Word Count: 1026
Summary: (Y/N) goes down to the shop floor late at night to find Tommy still knee deep in work. When he won’t put the papers down, she decides to find a happy middle ground.
Tumblr media
It didn’t come as much of a surprise to (Y/N) that Tommy wasn’t on his side of the bed when she rolled over to it. But that didn’t mean that the emptiness didn’t make her sad.
It has to be late, she thought to herself as she threw the covers to the side and got out of the bed. She then grabbed her robe from its hook on the wardrobe and pulled it on to cover the slip she’d been wearing.
She walked down the stairs and through the home, coming to the double doors that were still open. Tommy was sitting at one of the tables on the shop’s floor. There were papers strewn about on the table before him, and it looked like he was in the middle of looking one over.
“It’s late, Tom,” (Y/N) decided to speak up after she’d been watching him for a few moments. Tommy’s eyes flicked up and found (Y/N) the second she started talking.
“I know,” his answer came as a mumble due to the cigarette that was perched between his lips. He took it between his fingers before looking over at his wife, “I have work to do.”
“The work can wait.”
“It can’t. It needs to be done.”
“There’ll be time tomorrow.”
“Love…” he trailed off with a sigh, tipping his head slightly to the side as he paused for a moment, “I have to have this…”
“Come to bed, Tommy,” she cut him off, a pleading look in her eyes.
This look put Tommy between a rock and a hard place. He didn’t want to say no to his wife, but he had so many things to figure out for the derby day that was quickly approaching. “I can’t. Not yet,” he finally told her, feeling a pang of pain in his heart when he saw her shoulders drop. “Why don’t you go back up?” he suggested then.
“I’m not. Not without you,” she answered, frowning as she finished speaking.
“It’s gonna be a bit, (Y/N),” he reminded her.
“I don’t care,” she didn’t budge.
Tommy blinked a few times as he kept his eyes on her. He knew that it’d take more effort to change her mind then it would to just roll with her decision. (Y/N) kept her eyes on him, watching to see how he’d respond. She wasn’t going to be returning to her room without Tommy in tow. He’d been with her long enough to know that.
A few beats of silence passed before Tommy motioned to one of the empty chairs with the hand he’d been holding the cigarette in. “Have a seat then,” he said to her, nodding towards the chair with his head also, hoping that his decision would appease her and that he could finally get back to working.
“Don’t mind if I do,” (Y/N) chirped in response, a smile forming as she moved over to the side of the table he was sitting on. “Move out a little bit,” she instructed him.
He sent her a confused look. “What are you…”
“I want to sit on your lap,” she cut him off, crossing her arms. Tommy raised his eyebrows at her, wondering why she was being so particular. “I refuse to sit anywhere else, so move it, Mr. Shelby.”
With a breath of a laugh, Tommy gave into her demands, pushing his chair further out before leaning towards the table to snuff out the cigarette in the ashtray. (Y/N) waited until he was sitting properly again before she took her seat sideways on his lap. She hooked her arms around his neck and wasted no time in resting her cheek against his collarbone.
“Good?” he questioned.
“Very,” she answered, exhaling a sigh of content.
And they sat there like that, a comfortable silence falling around them as Tommy got back to work with figuring out the possible wagers and scenarios that could occur at the derby.
(Y/N) was fine sitting like she was for a little while, but then she started to become bored. Not to mention she was still sleepy. So she lifted her head from his collarbone and tucked it into the crook of his neck. Finding his exposed skin rather quickly, she began placing feather light kisses to it, hoping that her doing so would take her husband’s mind off of work.
“Getting tired yet?” she whispered in his ear after she’d placed a trail of kisses up towards it.
“No,” his answer came like a breath. (Y/N) couldn’t quite discern if she’d gotten under his composure or not.
“Will you come to bed with me?”
“It hasn’t been long since you came down.”
“It’s been long enough,” she insisted, a yawn slipping from her lips after she was finished speaking.
Tommy chuckled at it. It was becoming apparent that sleepiness was coming over her. He wanted nothing more than to go to bed with her this instant, but he needed to make sure his plan was air-tight before he called it a night. “Just a little while longer,” he told her. She let out a soft whimper, but ultimately nodded and rested her cheek on his collarbone again.
Some more time passed, enough so that Tommy was ready to finally call it a night. He set the paper he was reading down and made his final marks on it before capping the pen and placing it on the table. He was about to tell (Y/N) he was finished when he heard the softest snore come from his right. Upon turning his head, he found that she was asleep with her head resting on his shoulder. A soft chuckle escaped his lips.
“Couldn’t wait, could ya?” he questioned aloud, even though he wasn’t talking to anyone. He then slipped his one arm under the bend of her knees and the other behind her back. He stood from the chair slowly, making sure that he didn’t jostle her awake. “Let’s get you to bed, eh?” he said to her as he made his way through the shop and up to their bedroom.

hiii i'm kinda new here so i don't really know what exactly happened that tumblr bullied John green off this site. (apart from the Anne Frank museum scene) I've read some stuff here and there but idk the details :( so I'd love it if you could explain some of it?
Yeah, fer sure. There’s a couple of different angles to this situation, and there are some folks who provided more information in the notes of my other post. I absolutely might miss some stuff or misspeak and I bet there’ll be folks in the notes who will Let Me Know. I took some time to research but a lot of this is from my human memory so please be kind if I get something wrong.
So basically, at the height of the Green Brothers’ influence, they ran a number of different entities associated with their media empire. One of them, DFTBA Records, was created to sign and distribute music from YouTube based artists. It also distributed merch from various online personalities that were in this orbit. Their reach online was huge- vlogbrothers was still going on, they started VidCon, etc etc.
At the same time, the Green brothers were experiencing a bit of a backlash on tumblr. There was a very particular vocabulary that they and the people in their fandom used, and to some folks around here it felt very infantilizing and “cringey”. JG was also up to some absolutely ridiculous behavior that I don’t really think I’ve got the time to get into, but suffice it to say that he has a tremendous track record for putting his foot in his mouth outside of tumblr, too. To people who weren’t impressed by his work, he was very easy to dislike.
Cringe is a word that I absolutely agree has been weaponized against vulnerable groups such as neurodivergent people. However, I think there was another understanding of the word at the time that described adults inserting themselves into children’s spaces. The “hello, fellow kids” kind of behavior. I think that was what we were responding to, but we didn’t have the vocabulary or sitewide maturity to identify it.
Tumblr media
So, given the culture on the site? There was absolutely some bullying going on. At the time, you could edit other people’s posts, and so the “cock monologue” wasn’t the only time John Green’s posts got vandalized. But here’s the thing- John Green was a very powerful person in this space. He’s an adult and he was interacting with some very young fans and some people, myself included, thought there should have been some firmer boundaries. He was being treated like a substitute teacher by a rowdy group of kids, and he couldn’t take the jokes. At the time, messaging and commenting features were pretty much in beta, and perceived temper tantrums from JG sometimes overlapped with outages in those features. We joked at the time that he was going all the way to tumblr hq to get them to stop the kids from cyber bullying him, but there isn’t actually proof that that’s what was happening.
So back to the YouTube musicians. For a few of them, Tom Milsom in particular, it was an open secret that they had very young girlfriends who had been former fans of theirs. Hank Green admits to being aware of these inappropriate relationships, but he brushed it off and described one girl in particular as a “cool fan who could hold her own.” There have been anecdotal accounts that during this time, the Greens warned girls away from getting close to particular people, but they did nothing to prevent this behavior. Things came to a head when a few former partners of Alex Day, a member of a Doctor Who themed band named “Chameleon Circuit” and who also released solo work on DFTBA, came out to allege that Day had coerced them into sex when they were not comfortable or ready. Initially Day denied these accusations, but later admitted that he had engaged in misconduct. This cascaded into more and more accusations, eventually totaling in nine musicians from DFTBA facing credible accusations of rape, grooming, and in one case possession of CP. Many of these survivors were former fans, and they were preyed upon by their abusers because of the poor boundaries in the culture fostered by DFTBA records and the greater Green Brothers scene. Hank green made a statement on his tumblr (John notably did Not) where he expressed surprise and grief over these accusations. The accused artists were kicked from the label and everybody stopped talking about it.
Well. Aside from when one person involved, edplant, returned to the internet. JG tweeted “welcome back” to that guy.
So remember the cyber bullying? Well somebody edited a post to make it look like John Green was rhapsodizing about liking to suck dick. JG, once again unable to interact with children normally, throws a fit. See, I’ve worked with kids before. I’ve been “bullied” by literal 12 year olds working as a teacher’s aide. And the only thing you can do is find it very, very funny that a child thinks they can hurt your feelings. That’s it! You’ve gotta roll with it. Either ignore them or laugh about it. I don’t know if it was really a kid or a teen who did it. But it was kid or teen behavior. Shortly after this, the loophole allowing users to edit other people’s posts was closed.
A lot of people remember John Green leaving the platform after that. But he actually stuck around for a while. It wasn’t until a now deactivated user made a post comparing him to a creep who sits a liiittle too close to the kids in the pool at functions. Here's the quote:
I bet John Green thinks people don't like him because he's a dork or a nerd or whatever, when in reality it's because he's a creep who panders to teenage girls so that he can amass some weird cult-like following. And it's always girls who feel misunderstood, you know, and he goes out of his way to make them feel important and desirable. Which is fucking weird. Also he has a social media presence that is equivalent to that dad of a kid in your friend group who always volunteers to 'supervise' the pool parties and scoots his lawn chair close to all the girls.
John Green took this opportunity to clarify that he, personally, has NEVER HARMED A CHILD. His response made it sound like she was accusing him of something and, because he was a much more powerful user, that was the version of the story that went around. This incident breached tumblr containment and led to a number of other YA authors making statements about how absurd the allegations were. The user who made that comment was for real cyberbullied off the platform. She recieved hateful messages and death threats from Green’s fans to the point that this site was unusable for her. Shortly after that, John Green also left tumblr.
The catalyst for my post was a TikTok made by Hank Green where he insinuates that, for no reason and in pure mean spirit, rapscallions on tumblr had ousted John Green with the infamous cock monologue. That got my blood boiling because no, that wasn’t what happened, and the kids on TikTok weren’t there to know the difference. There was a combination of people finding John Green's online persona off putting and creepy, actual sex abuse scandals in his orbit, the nonexistent boundaries between him and his young, vulnerable fans. It’s the most popular post I’ve ever made and I honestly regret posting something short and angry without corroborating information. If I’d known, I would have included some links! I have tried to be fair here but I have no respect for either of the Greens. There are a bunch of other reasons to dislike John Green- he has said some truly dumb and unkind things over the years. But ultimately he is a self important jerk who hid behind performative kindness and lukewarm progressive ideals that didn’t seem genuine in order to generate a cult of personality targeted at vulnerable, lonely kids and then he didn’t take that responsibility as seriously as he should have. And then kids got hurt.

Third Times the Charm
Hello Hello! This is by far one of my favorite things I have written! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Please don't hesitate to like, comment or reblog. It means so much to authors. It also gives them feedback. Anyways without further ado!
Tom Holland x Reader *Y/n Y/ln*
Warnings: Mentions of a fire. Calling 911. Weddings. Proposing
Summary: Tom tries repeatedly to pop the question.
Type: Fluff <3
AUTHORS POV
Tom had been trying to pop the question for months now. He asked for your father's blessing; he told his mum. He even asked Zendaya, your sister, and some of your other close friends for help on picking the ring, date, and place.
So when the day finally came for him to get down on one knee and ask for your hand in marriage, you had to postpone your date because your sister went into an early labor.
Tom reluctantly delayed the occasion and planned another date. This date was in a small family owned Vineyard somewhere in napa. The sun had started to set and just as you were about to turn around (Tom was already on his knee) you spotted that a part of the grape Vines had caught on fire. Hurriedly you called 911. At this point Tom had already gotten up and started to pack up your stuff so you could get out of there safely.
Exasperated by his multiple failed attempts to ask for your hand in marriage he decided that he would try one last time and if it didn't work he would wait a while longer. He thought "maybe the universe is purposefully trying to sabotage my plans because it's not time yet"
So the third time he tried to pop the question, he set a date in which he made sure you both had no plans or meetings going on. He drove you to a park somewhere downtown and he had a picnic set up.
He was very nervous, “What if she says no?” or “what if i mess up the speech?” “Third times the charm-Third times the charm-Third times the charm” he kept repeating to himself. If it didn't work out it was ok. But he just really wanted it to work out.  Around an hour into the picnic he mentally psyched himself up one more time and as nervous as he was finally decided to pop the question.
“Y/n Y/l/n *you got this tom!* you are one of the best things that has ever happened to me. I love you more than anything in this world. I can guarantee there’ll be tough times.*he gets down on one knee* I guarantee that at some point one or both of us are gonna want to get out of this. *reaches into pocket* But I also guarantee that if I don't ask you to be mine *takes out the ring* I'll regret it for the rest of my life because I know in my heart you are the only one for me. Be with me now and forever?” At the end of his speech Tom’s whole face was flushed a bright red. Breathing heavily he looked into your eyes, looking, searching for any sign of rejection. But when he looked at you all he could see were the tears that were threatening to spill. He could only see your wide smile.
And as if the world suddenly stops, he sees your mouth opening. “YES YES OH MY GOD YES A MILLION TIMES YES!” you said nearly shouting. You were screaming, but at a reasonable level for a person who just got asked for their hand in marriage. Tom let out a sigh of relief finally being able to breathe again. You lunged at Tom and wrapped your arms around his neck, trapping him in a tight hug. When you both finally let go you saw Tom’s family and yours emerging from the trees surrounding both of you. Harry had a camera in hand and was clicking away. Nicki and Dom were in tears. Your sister was carrying her newborn, looking at you with one of the biggest smiles you have ever seen on her face. Her husband followed close behind. And your father beside him. Paddy walked in between his parents. Sam walked next to Harry, carrying a tray of delicious looking desserts. As they reach you and Tom, one by one congratulate you and engulfed you in big hugs. After giving them their love they talked with you guys. Both you and Tom explained your hopes and wishes for the wedding.
“Hey Tom?” you said to him as you were walking back to the car. “Yes Love?” “How many times did you try to propose?” Tom chuckled at the question. Eyes shining with love. “Believe it or not, I only tried three times.” Tom responded. “You know what they say Tommy, Third Times the Charm.”

Pibby Minisodes: Pibby in Townsville
Tumblr media Tumblr media
While running away from a bunch of glitched out cartoons, Pibby runs into Mojo Jojo. I thought it would be funny if he mistook her for a Powerpuff girl, since with her similar proportions, she looks a little like Bubbles.
And that maybe Mojo can become a reluctant ally, similar to Melira being a villain, maybe Mojo would be like “if that thing destroys the world, there’ll be nothing for me to take over”.
I also wanted to use the classic Powerpuff Girl style that I grew up with, the early 2000’s series, not the 2016 series. Also I heard some people didn’t like the angular design Mojo got in the mid season, I liked the angular design, he looked more evil and threatening with the sharp angles and pointed ears, but I thought I would go for the classic rounded eared Mojo, I guess he looks more like a chimp that way.
And maybe Pibby can be aware of the Tom Kenny narrator and tries to ask him to help but there is nothing he can do.
There’s more to come

I’m only four episodes into The Sandman and I am in love. The way that they use different camera lenses and angles to give a feeling of the immateriality of the Dreaming and how Dream moves through the world is spectacular. And the colors!! Oh my god the color schemes. They’re pulled pretty much directly from the books and even though I haven’t read them in years the exact images immediately pop into my head. The style of the effects is giving me MirrorMask vibes and I am here for it. Fantastic. I love the indie-artsy style. It’s so *chef’s kiss*.
I also adore the casting choices. Tom Sturridge is absolutely wonderful. Whoever did his hair deserves an award cause it’s just perfect. As close to the drawings as it can be. I love it. Jenna Colman as Johanna Constantine instead of John makes me wonder if there will be a flashback with John as her ancestor instead, but even if there isn’t it’s fantastic. And Cain! Abel! They look like the characters come to life! (Abel more so than Cain, given that Cain’s a different ethnicity, but it’s so good!!) As does the Corinthian! Lucienne is also brilliant and I love her outfit. Oh yeah. PATTON OSWALT IS THE PERFECT PERSON FOR MATTHEW. I didn’t know that’s what I needed until it happened and I’m so happy. David Thewlis is brilliant as usual, and once again, whoever did the hair got. it. right. (Idk why, but hair is apparently important to how I see these characters).
It seems like this season is just focusing on Preludes & Nocturnes and if that means we get a season for each novel I will be over the moon!!
Ok, I’m done gushing for now. There’ll probably be more as I keep watching the show. Especially since they’re going to Hell in the next one. I am so ready for Gwendoline Christie’s Lucifer.

Bel's AUgust Challenge — Masterpost
Yesterday was the last day of The Ted Lasso AU-gust Challenge (@ted-lasso-au-gust) and I wanted to share a masterpost of all the fics I wrote for this.
You can find them all in my AUgust Challenge series on AO3 as well the main AUgust Challenge collection along with all the other contributions, but below is a list of links to every one with a brief description and approximate word count.
I did 31 fills in total, because in a moment of madness I decided I was going to do a fic a day for every single prompt.
It was a choice, it was a bad one, but it’s done now. The current word count for the series is almost 76,000, but this will go up because three of the fills are multi-chapter with only the first chapter posted so far.
There’s a pretty varied range of pairings and ratings and characters focused on, hopefully there’ll be something here for everyone.
Regarding the basic tagging here — fics marked Canon Universe obviously may involve tropes like soulbonds, de-aging, time loops, elements that make them a Magical Realism AU rather than literally Canonverse. But you know what I mean. Also, the two marked Roy/Keeley + Jamie as opposed to Gen are pre-poly, where the vibe is definitely charged and would end up there down the line, but the story here isn't really about that.
Please do tell me what your favourites were - I would love to know!

“There’s something that’s so enduring about this character,” Andrew Scott says of the classic queer-coded antihero Tom Ripley, “and I think it’s because we have so many questions about him.”
When we heard the actor was tapped to play the eponymous role in a new adaptation of The Talented Mr. Ripley—Patricia Highsmith’s 1955 crime novel about fictional conman Tom Ripley—our first question was: “Oh this is about to be so gay, isn’t it?”
And now that we’ve had a chance to see Ripley, writer-director Steven Zaillian’s gorgeous series that hits Netflix on April 4, we’re pleased to report out prediction was right!
Though not at all in the way we had expected.
First thing’s first: Tom Ripley is not “gay.” At least, not according to Highsmith herself, who once confusingly asserted that Ripley “appreciates good looks in other men” but couldn’t possibly be gay because he’s married to a woman in her later books and even “makes it in bed with his wife.”
And while Scott might not completely agree with Highsmith’s assessment of her most famous or, rather, infamous character, he’s careful to acknowledge that, when it comes to Ripley’s much-debated queerness, things (ironically) aren’t so black-and-white.
“One of the big things about [Ripley’s] sexuality,” Scott shares with Queerty, “was that I felt quite strongly that I didn’t want to overly diagnose—for want of a better word—his sexuality, or even his nationality, or his age, or his upbringing.”
Much like Highsmith’s first novel, the series tiptoes right up to the line of Ripley’s queerness, though it’s a line that only becomes blurrier the closer you get. Sent to Italy to convince wealthy heir Dickie Greenleaf (played here by Emma‘s Johnny Flynn) to return home to America, Ripley finds himself infatuated with the expat’s lifestyle to the point of obsession, and is perhaps even jealous of Dickie’s girlfriend, Marge Sherwood (Dakota Fanning).
But does he want to be Dickie, or be with him?
Even after their relationship takes a dark turn, Highsmith’s writing avoided easy answers, and that uncertainty became a trademark of the character, a man who never gets any less slippery or elusive—not across her five novels, five different film adaptations, and nearly three-quarters of a century.
The Man Of Many Faces
Scott steps into the iconic role after what’s unquestionably been the biggest year of his career thus far, thanks to his award-winning performances in All Of Us Strangers and in the West End production of Vanya. But the 47-year-old Irish actor has been working steadily on stage and screen since the ’90s, notably playing high-profile villains opposite the likes of Sherlock Holmes and James Bond, while also stealing everyone’s hearts as “The Hot Priest” in the Emmy-winning comedy Fleabag.
And while those characters cleanly fall on either side of a moral code, Ripley represented someone who was harder to place—making him all the more enticing to Scott.
“Your first job as an actor is to try and understand the character and not judge them… [and] for that reason, you kind of love them,” Scott reflects. “The big challenge for me in this character was to accept the fact that there’ll be some part of Tom that I’ll never really know—as much as I want to—which made it a kind of lonely place to be.”
But he’s not entirely alone: Over the decades, we’ve seen a number of high-profile performers bring their unique talents to Tom Ripley, from suave French screen idol Alain Delon, to Dennis Hooper, Barry Pepper, and John Malkovich (who, intriguingly, plays a small role in Ripley), to—most famously—Matt Damon, whose 1999 The Talented Mr. Ripley remains the most commercially successful screen adaptation of the series.
Directed by Anthony Minghella, Damon channels his natural movie-star charisma into the conman’s more calculated charms, while also showing us flashes of a wounded humanity not present in Highsmith’s novel. In fact, the film takes a fair number of creative liberties with the source material, like deliberately leaning into the homoerotic undertones of Tom and Dickie’s relationship, and even later giving Tom a tragically ill-fated male partner.
Without spoiling too much, Ripley proves itself to be much more loyal to the book. There is no steamy bathtub chess scene, there’s no potential romance with another man—even mentions of the words “gay” or “queer” are carefully danced around. It’s not so much that this Tom Ripley is “in the closet” as he is completely hidden in the dark.
One Queer Fella
While one might expect a modern interpretation of the material to more overtly address the character’s sexuality (for example, AMC’s take on Anne Rice’s Interview With The Vampire provided a solid model, finally giving us the full-on gay fang-bang we’ve been waiting for), this series is more interested in placing Tom Ripley in the context of a certain place and time. Here, in 1960s Italy, brushing up against the world of the wealthy, he’s an outsider in every sense of the word
In turn, Scott’s Ripley is much more opaque than Damon’s, and that’s by design. Clinging to a social and moral “murkiness” (Scott’s word), his introverted interpretation of this antihero is impossible to take your eyes off of. And while we may not see demonstrations of Ripley’s queerness in a romantic or relational sense, we can recognize how he takes advantage of his otherness to move through the world.
“I think that’s a really interesting part of him, actually,” says Scott of Ripley’s status as an other, and the fluidity therein. “I certainly think that he uses the prejudice of the time for his own gain, because so much of the atmosphere at the time was coded and about secrets and what people say [versus] what they actually might feel.”
Because whether or not Ripley would admit it, others—like the increasingly suspicious Marge—view him as an outsider, and even assume he might be queer. To an extent, that puts a target on his back, but he quickly learns to use it as a shield—or a weapon. When the local authorities come knocking, they seem uncomfortable prying too much into his life, afraid of the truths they might uncover. And Ripley knows it.
In other words, when Ripley finds himself backed into a corner, it’s those very places that people don’t want to go—the questions that “polite” society doesn’t want to ask—that allow him to slip through the cracks. So long as he exists in the shadows, outside of the bounds of a rigid heteronormative world, he can basically get away with, well, you get it.
Shadowy Figures
As Ripley lures you in, a motif gradually rises to the surface: The work of Italian baroque artist Caravaggio, the turn-of-the-17th-century painter whose distinctive “chiaroscuro” style is both an influence on the series’ stunningly stark look—and on Ripley himself.
It’s no coincidence that Caravaggio, despite being one of the most sought-after artists of his time, was also a volatile man with a serious criminal record. Known to provoke street brawls at random, he made enemies with many dangerous individuals, and is even said to have killed a few of them. His reputation meant he was never able to stay in one place for long. Sound familiar?
Not unlike Ripley, the painter’s sexuality—and the role it might or might not have played in his most incomprehensible behavior—has long been the subject of speculation.
“There are so many things about Caravaggio that Tom finds completely fascinating,” Scott shares excitedly. “I think it’s a really amazing touch that he has a sort of kinship with this person from so many years ago. It’s so interesting in relation to what we want to know about people, and how we identify people.”
In drawing the parallels between these two men, Ripley forces us to question our own biases—the labels we might prescribe to others in an effort to make sense of the world.
“The great achievement of this [story,] I think, is that we’re rooting for somebody who morally isn’t necessarily somebody we should be rooting for,” the actor adds. “We want the audience to feel like what it’s like to be Tom Ripley, rather than what it’s like to be a victim of Tom Ripley. And for that reason, we have to look at the bits of ourselves that are Tom Ripley-esque.”
“I’m not saying that we’re all murderous,” Scott continues, “but there’s certainly stuff within us that we don’t have access to. And there’s a blankness that you go, ‘I don’t understand that about myself.'”
So, is Tom Ripley gay? Straight? Is he a villain? An antihero? Is he someone we should fear, or pity? Is it so wrong that we might walk away from Ripley—if not empathizing with him—at least understanding where he’s coming from?
As Andrew Scott sees it, “[to] reduce the character by answering too many of those questions is actually a crime in itself.”'

Yalll I have been wanting to see more writing of Ewan Mitchell’s characters because I swear it’s a literal ghost town in Osferth/baby monk stories like I need more content not only that but also on Tom Bennet because his characters are literally making me blush and twirl my hair giggling type of way.
Yeah, it’s been hard out here if you’ve been a fan of Ewan’s work prior to him being on HotD so, welcome to the struggle if you didn’t know it already 😂.
The Ewan hype will probably die down too since S1 of HotD is finished so, there’ll be even less Osferth/Tom fics now.

TL;DR ‼️Spoilers ch 1045-1052
The power of Luffy’s DF is feared because it gives freedom to the person who wields it by letting them fight anyway they choose and I think Oda showed that in his artwork in addition to storytelling by pushing his style to extremes when drawing gear 5 Luffy v. Kaido.
I just finished reading up to 1052 and I have this thought in my mind about Gear 5 that I don’t want to forget.
One Piece has always had an unconventional art style, one that has been deemed as “ugly” when compared to other animes that were running at the same time. Admittedly, I was not fond of the style myself when I first started it back in 2014. Anime always has a certain look to it depending on what era it is from but One Piece never seems to really fit in with these eras.
90s. 2010s
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I believe from Fishman Island Arc - Zou Arc is when the art style was similar to other anime at the time. It at least looked like Dragon Ball Super (but they were being made by the same studio so that could be why?) Anyway, anime is easily identifiable because it has a certain look. I’ve heard how artists have been discouraged from drawing anime because it’s restrictive in comparison to cartoons made in the west, specifically the US. One Piece, I feel, especially in pre timeskip, was unique in its style because there were no standard body proportions, there were a lot of different skin tones, the character designs were often extreme, and Luffy as well as most men in the series, didn’t have color in their eyes. Which in comparison to an anime like Naruto where eyes can be everything, is actually really significant. Out of these, the only thing that has changed is that the skin tones have become less diverse amongst the crew (we hate to see it).
The theme of One Piece but especially Wano has been Freedom and Liberation and I think Oda shows us this not only through storytelling but through the art itself. As soon as Luffy uses Gear 5 the way he is drawn is drastically different. His expressions more cartoonish, his body has less of a definite shape. Oda is pushing his art style to be even more extreme.
I wouldn’t have thought to much of it if the reaction expressions of everyone else did not also change.
Tumblr media
Normal Shocked look in One Piece vs. Post Gear 5 shocked expression
Tumblr media
Which looks more akin to Tom and Jerry (and other old American cartoons)
Tumblr media
Also this
Tumblr media
Which reminded me of the Looney Tunes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And this panel reminded me of the flower from Cuphead but I think that’s because it just reminds me of the rubber hose style.
Anyway I think it’s equally brilliant and hilarious to say your character’s power is that they can fight however they choose and then proceed to do some Looney Tunes type ish. Wonder if there’ll be funny sound effects when it’s animated.

Hi! I saw you reblogged the ask thing so I wanted to ask a question: i've seen a few stories/headcanons with tom hardy characters as werewolves, do you plan to do more? If i'm not wrong it's Alfie, Leo, Eddie, Eames & Forrest for the time being.... Just wanted to know if you had other characters planned or maybe headcanons for the ones that only have a story, so you can kind of differentiate better between them.
Also: do you have a favourite/least favourite?
Thanks! 😊 (p.s. love them btw, please do keep them coming if you can! 💕)
Hiya!
I do have a TH Characters as Werewolves post planned to be written and just came up with some headcanons for werewolf!Ivan Locke (even though I’ve never seen Locke).
I recently watched Jacksepticeye play Elden Ring and, unsurprisingly, I was quite taken with Blaidd. Then I remembered an unfinished story I have I could revamp that’s set in Wales. Now, I’ll explain the finer details of it all in the werewolf canons post.😅
Furthermore, I also have some things up my sleeve for werewolf!Bob Saginowski. Again, you’ll see those in the post.😉
Anywho, I’ll try to differentiate between the characters a wee bit better, but I mostly like exploring the affect and effect of lycanthropy (which I approach as a psychological as well as physical affliction) has on them. Therefore, there’s not a whole lot of difference between them aside from the stages in which they themselves are.
Now, as for a favourite, I have a hard time picking between Alfie and Bob. They’re polar opposites of each other, Bob being the sweet & shy bartender who writes paranormal romance and Alfie being the assertive Alpha of the Camden Pack, a King with a past, who longs for the ideal he and his love held for a single summer. I do admit, though, Werewolf!Forrest is growing on me too.
As my least favourite, I’d say Eddie. However, this is mostly in part to the challenge of having to transform Venom into a Wolf and place them within my ‘lore’. I’m not altogether unhappy with how the story turned out, but it’s not my proudest work.
The other part comes from having to set the story in America and me being more familiar with the UK & Ireland, its accents and dialects (especially Irish English), and cultures. In short, it’s easier for me and often makes more sense for my tales since I tend to draw on Celtic (and Norse) mythology. Also, we need more stories set in that part of the world. Not just London, Margate, or Birmingham. No, I want stories set in Edinburgh, Cardiff, Swansea, Inverness, Belfast, Dublin, Galway, Waterford, Gloucester, York. I could go on and on, but you get what I mean. So, yeah, any story set in America with American characters on this website that’s overrun with Americans is automatically not one of my faves or something I’ll likely continue.
Right, I just remembered I did James Delaney as a werewolf too a wee while ago in a piece called Claddagh. Wasn’t my proudest work either, but that’s because I haven’t properly done a character study on him yet and therefore can’t get a feel for him.
Anyhow, there’ll be plenty more wolfish tales in the future from me because I’ve plenty ideas👍🏻😸

The article is paywalled 😭 what's it say
oh i just copied it into an incognito tab and then turned off my wifi before the paywall loaded lol. here are the specific bits i was talking about
Irish people are very open about the fact that we like it when we’re noticed. We’re a very small country who punch far above our weight in terms of world recognition. It doesn’t make any sense. We’re the size of Costa Rica and we have a lot of notable people, but sometimes we do feel like we get forgotten, that people haven’t spoken about us enough in the last two weeks. I wrote a little piece in the Guardian about the sense that whenever Irish American politicians show their support, it clings them to our breasts. [When American politicians visit Ireland] there’ll be parties in the streets. Outside, this is interpreted as being purely about tribalism. But it’s mostly just injecting a little bit of interest in world events by seeing it through Ireland. Bill Clinton, for example, has negligible Irish ancestry and had no proof of any of it, and we were like, “Ah, no worries. It’s fine"
and
It’s not done with any seriousness. Ireland has one of the world’s longest running chat shows, The Late Late Show. They’ll have Tom Hanks or they’ll have Julia Roberts, and you only need to watch for literally three minutes before they ask something about, “Do you like Ireland? Have you ever been to Ireland? I hear your great-grandmother is from Ireland.” It’s this kind of playing to the gallery thing, which is sycophantic and desperate — but also undeniably really popular. People like the idea that these rich and famous people are thinking about Ireland. For the most part it’s harmless. If you can get the accents right, we’ll buy it up. So that’s what makes the failures so mystifying, because that is an absolute open goal. But then, we’re not the market.
this last bit isn't really related to the point but i do think it's funny
When John Patrick Shanley’s Outside Mullingar opened on Broadway in 2014, reviews were mostly warm. Charles Isherwood in the New York Times called the romance between neighboring Irish farmers — one played by stage veteran Brian F. O’Byrne, the other by Debra Messing — “wholly diverting,” praising Shanley’s “lyrical writing” for giving “such consistent pleasure.” The Hollywood Reporter’s David Rooney hailed it as “a tender paean to rural life, to the Irish spirit, and to the enduring belief that love will find a way.” Tony voters enjoyed Outside Mullingar so much that they nominated it for Best Play, though it lost to the Bryan Cranston as LBJ drama All the Way — an act of AMC on NBC violence.
Then there was Fintan O’Toole’s review in the Irish Times, which began, “When plays are bad, their badness is usually easy to explain. Occasionally, though, there is a play whose woefulness demands a whole new theory,” and went on to call Outside Mullingar both “mystifyingly awful” and “unfathomably bad.”
a lot of the rest of the article is about depictions of the irish in hollywood more generally. it's quite a good read tbh. the author is interviewing the guy who did the viral thread about meeting the president of ireland while on ket

I was so obsessed with Donald Sutherland’s performance as Snow in the films. I also really like Snow as a villain I think he’s very refreshing from the standard villain trope (that I still love) where they delude themselves into believing the ends justifies the means and they’re ‘saving’ the world. But Snow knows what he does is evil and the oppression he perpetuates to keep everything under his control—he is not trying to even make an excuse to say it’s ‘for the better’.
I guess I just like really honest villains 🦹🏼‍♂️
((donald sutherland was So Good in the role, and i truly think tom blyth really manages to take on that legacy imo))
no that is so valid!!! snow really says there is one victor in the real world and that’s me and i really don’t care about much else other than keeping power because i feel entitled to it and if EYE am not gonna be the asshole on top there’ll just be another one. and that’s what makes snow such an interesting villain because that self-serving attitude is such a contrast from other villains in modern media we see fight for *some* agenda.
snow only has one agenda and that’s himself and i think quite frankly that’s also so much more closely aligned with the people we have heading OUR systems of power. acting in self-interest is rewarded in panem’s system as much as it is in our capitalist one. and people who play the rigged system and profit from it will never want to abolish it…. but like. i am getting off track. what i mean by that is snow is such a great villain because he only gets to be the villain because THE VIOLENT SYSTEM OF OPPRESSION allows and grooms him to be. that’s the *real* villain after all; a system that lets people like snow rise to the top.
