Reference for Hallowrove's scars!
First death: Lost the Feducci duel, got impaled with his lance. Would have healed more messily if Oversol hadn't been there to take it out and help afterwards.
Shapeling Arts first aid: stabbed in a dock brawl, patched up creatively by Haarsink
Vake: first encounter with it in BaL, the text mentioned it raking its claws down the player's legs while holding their shoulders and the image just stuck with me
Upper River Beast: sometimes there's a Big Fuckoff Flesh Creature. Lingering scar from an out-of-game roleplay incident.
Others: no consistent canonical placement for the assorted small scars, except for none around the eyes. Definitely most of them are from monster hunting or clambering around over walls and other types of Hallowroveish Activities they get into out of curiosity, but a couple lighter and older ones are from absentmindedness when they used to do metalwork and mechanical stuff on the Surface.

what i love about the lupe&esti dynamic is how nuanced it is. i wish we’d gotten to see more of it but even with what we have onscreen it’s so fascinating!
because lupe doesn’t start out disliking esti! in their first scene it’s lupe who reaches out to esti! and yes she shuts down esti’s over-the-top excitement but it’s very much played comedic—plus it IS ridiculous for esti to be jumping and screaming at someone she literally just met. and then later in the bathroom scene after tryouts, lupe goes out of her way to make an in-joke to esti (about not warning maybelle about the stinky bathroom stall LMAO i love her) IN SPANISH! it’s a little joke specifically for esti to make her laugh, make her feel included.
and then when dove gives his first big speech, lupe translates (“fuego en sus ojos”). she does it quickly and somewhat covertly—i think it’s partially because she wants to pay attention to what her idol is saying, but i also think part of the covert mess comes from not necessarily wanting dove to hear her speak spanish, or to realize esti needs translation. but she does it in that moment, and i think that’s such a beautiful act that doesn’t get a lot of recognition.
really, we only see her start to turn on esti when esti reads lupe’s personal letter, and even more when lupe realizes esti is going to the secret practices. as we watch the series we understand WHY that letter is so personal and why lupe reacts so harshly to esti reading it, and who wouldn’t be put out that her sixteen year old roommate is being invited to secret practices behind her back? and then the implied exhaustion of constantly having to translate for esti, of being the only person esti can talk to… on top of all the other shit lupe is dealing with this season, it makes sense how her mood would turn sour towards esti. it’s not esti’s fault necessarily, but it’s not lupe’s fault necessarily either! it’s just life! it’s just conflict!
it makes sense that esti, being so young and not understanding so much of the context of lupe’s life, would read these complicated feelings as hostility. but it also makes sense that lupe, with her incredibly textured backstory and nuanced position both on the team and in society at large, isn’t going to be a perfect person. what i love about them is they’re both right and both wrong and their tension comes from their characters and miscommunication.
and even with it partially resolved with their conversation in episode seven, i love that it’s not an immediate fix. they don’t become instant best friends, lupe doesn’t suddenly become esti’s foster brother/parent. instead we get that quiet moment of lupe watching esti give her speech to the team, proud and heartbroken at the same time. we get the double steal. we get them starting to build a relationship—not from scratch, as if the car conversation undid everything from the past season, but on top of that infrastructure, with more awareness of each other’s existence as real, multi-faceted people

Guys. Have y'all ever had onion soup? Because I need to talk about it.
Onion soup is epic. Onions themselves are epic. They taste good fried/caramelized and it's so good. It pairs well with ANYTHING. And sometimes raw onions also just pack that punch you need in certain dishes and it's so good.
And then you're telling me it was put in SOUP??
LIKE HAVE YOU SEEN THIS SHIT????
It's food heaven imo.
It's onions(one of the few foods that go good with everything and can be eaten at any time) in BROTH with all the other good stuff AND it's french(idk why I put that but french food has the impression of being fancy to me) AND it's paired with cheese and goes epic with baguette slices.
Onion soup is epic
I rest my case

How do you get those beautiful textures in your traditional coloured pencil work? Do you use a specific kind of paper? I love your work! Can't believe I didn't find your blog sooner.
Why thank you kind one 🥰🥰🥰 i believe they come out to be as textured as that cus i'm drawing on 96(?) gsm paper + it's 'universal' so it can be used 2 work with any materials which probably gives it a peculiar texture

My printer hates me :) (with many thanks and credit to @niennanir as before)
Gosh aren’t they gorgeous tho ♥ Especially the latest and largest, though I have to give all the credit to the paper on that one haha, it’s stunning IRL, I could almost stare at the gold lattice forever rather than read, but I’m so happy with how it turned out between the pages as well!
Quick showcase of the new additions! :D
My Drinking Game as another test run, I got the spacing how I wanted it! Yay! It’s so much handsomer and less cramped! Also I gotta say, if it wasn’t such a large usage of paper, this would be my ideal way of checking for typos - I found a couple after setting it down to ink lol, they’ve been fixed now at least ♪
Paired here with the emerge, transformed three-parter, one of my all-time-favourites <3 I reread it the night I finished it and cried again, a little bit of tender mercy always wrecks me hhhh ♥ There are so many beautiful evocative lines! I’m so happy to hold it ♪ And as you can see above, that was the one that got the cute little ghost dust jacket :D
Another test run of what I’m calling volume 1 of my Vargas Drabbles lol, so not including Have you lost your mind? since that one’s currently unfinished. I do fully intend to print it once it’s done tho :3c Hopefully that one will cause me fewer problems! I hate measuring, so I may have flubbed two covers before finally getting this one into good enough shape XP And my red yarn is still in storage so >.> Did I go purchase another ball of red yarn? I’ll never tell. You can’t tell me it doesn’t look great as a bookmark tho <3
And my current happiest! Ah!! It turned out fantastic on all counts! The cover paper obviously, as I couldn’t Not lead with that, but also the size of the spine and the way the pages settled against each other while glueing - I used a different type of paper for this one and I think I’m completely converted over, it feels amazing to work with. Whatever I was using before had to have been like 15lbs lol, I’m literally just using normal 20lb printer paper but it feels and looks and behaves so much nicer <3
The size of Helix also allowed for a slightly larger bookmark, which was perfect because we had this soft gold ribbon that was all of a couple millimeters wider than the other ribbons/yarn I’d been using, and it looks so so so pretty with the gold detailing!! I’ve put it between Ch. 1 and 2 and getting to see the actual physical size differences of the chapters is so fun ♥
