If I may ask, what exactly is the issue with the Emotional Spectrum? I'm kind of mixed on the execution, but given the elements of the Green Lantern mythos, it seems like a logical extension.

i don’t think the logical extension of there being an emotional spectrum is what bothers me per se (well. with the star sapphires as a notable exception) i am just not really keen on the idea of there being multiple corps in existence bc it undermines why the existence of even one was so ill-advised and prone to abuses in power. modern green lantern lore in general is very unfocused to me like sure there are some cool ideas wrt space adventures and warring factions and different rings lining up with different life experiences but in the end what i read green lantern comics for was the critical political element and commentary and i don’t see that reflected to quite the same effect in the way johns reworks the mythos

He doesn’t know why he’s getting so sad over this. It happens all the time. The girl that he loves finds some guy at a party, then they head home together, leaving Chosou a wreck. He knows it’s not fair, and he should have moved on a long time ago, but he can’t.

It’s hard to move on from someone you love- especially when she’s telling him “I love you” back. But she doesn’t want to make it official- she knows that this man will literally walk on his hands and knees to appease her, and she acts like he’s just some guy. It aggravates him to high hell, but he’s still hopeful about her.

This night was no different. She came with Chosou, and she’s leaving with another man. He can see her chatting this guy up from across the room in the house party. She’s batting her lashes up at him, playing with her hair, letting him feel all up on her. Chosou’s seething- you can practically see the steam rising from his head. With every bass boosted beat of the music in the house his heart is being torn to shreds. But she’s made it pretty clear that the two of them aren’t together- at all. He’s beginning to realize that they never will be.

“You look pissed as hell.”

A voice from behind him says, as (presumably, the owner of said voice) snakes an arm across his shoulder, leaning over the back of the chair to talk to him.

He peels his eyes off of ‘his girl’ and gives his attention to the voice.

It’s you. Your hair’s done up- you’re wearing a tube dress with necklaces and other jewelry adorning you. Lipgloss is shining. You’re smirking at him. He’s never seen you before- ever.

He doesn’t respond to you. Instead, he just looks at you blankly, then back at the girl he came with, dancing with another man.

“You like her, huh? In love with your best friend?”

That annoys Chosou a little bit. They’re not best friends- they’re… they…. Fuck he doesn’t even know. He takes a sip of his alcohol, just trying not to send his mind into a spiral.

“I get it. Happens to the best of us.”

Chosou would really prefer if you left him alone to wallow in his own self pity, but it seems that you have no intention of doing that. You haphazardly rub his chest, trying to comfort him.

“Thank you for- thank you for coming to my party.” You slur, smiling warmly.

Great. A drunk hostess. Not that he also wasn’t tipsy- it’s just that he’s sitting down, and he’s focusing all of his sobriety on his love.

And this is your house. It must look so nice when it’s not full of a bunch of mid to late 20-year olds getting wasted as fuck and destroying the place.

“Thank you for having me…”

“Of courseeeee,”

He side eyes you, as you place your head in your other hand.

“You’re too cute to be here upset about a girl.”

You grab the back of his head, which startles him, a tinge of red dancing across his cheeks as you move his head to look around.

“Take aaaa look at all of the possibiliessss.”

You’re referencing all of the people in your home right now. He doesn’t doubt that there’s some beauties in your humble abode, but they’re not her.

When you let go he looks back up at you, rubbing the back of his head clumsily. Now he’s really looking at you. Before he was so focused on his girl that’s not his girl, but now that he’s really really looking at you-

You’re bad as fuck. Real bad. Maybe it’s the alcohol talking, or the fact that he’s been ignoring his heart skipping beats like it’s beatboxing ever since you came to pester him. He hasn’t felt this feeling for anyone but her in a long time.

You pick up on his staring, looking him up and down. Then you say, with a sly grin:

“Maybe I can offer some help…”

He stiffens, and it’s noticeable. You let out a small hum, seemingly happy with his reaction, running the hand wrapped around him along his chest.

“Come with me.”

You take said hand and grab his jaw, turning it towards his situationship.

“You really want to sit… and watch in agony?”

He gulps, feeling his heart squeeze even harder, watching this girl on the verge of kissing the random man of the night.

“Your eyes are so easy to read.”

He looks to his side, and sees you leaning over further, damn near falling onto the couch to look at his face.

“At least for now, I can help you forget.”

His face is burning up, and he’s feeling dizzy. Maybe it’s the drink? Or his situation? Or how close you are to his face?

“If you’re not down to fuck, that’s fine too. We can have fun other-“

“I want to fuck.”

The words tumbled out of his mouth before he could even process what he was saying with the little control he had.

You let out another hum in satisfaction with a grin.

“Shit- ok then.” You kiss his cheek sloppily, then stand back up behind the couch, waiting for him so you guys can go.

He stands up, looking at ‘his girl’ then back at you over his shoulder. You’re leaning against the wall with your arms crossed, looking at him. Obviously undressing him with your eyes, biting the inside of your cheek.

Your confidence and unabashed ogling is something he’s not used to.

Maybe it’s the alcohol talking, but he likes it. Maybe it’s the punch you’ve brewed up for this party, but he’s starting to remember it’s nothing serious between him and ole girl. Perhaps it’s the drink, but he hopes you grip his hair just as roughly as you were doing before, whether he’s eating you out, or you’re riding.

You’re here- for the night, at least. It’s been so long since he’s had sex.

For once, his mind isn’t on her.

Maybe the best way for him to get her out of his head is to get inside of you- at least for the night.

i feel bad for jungkook because he’s always doubting himself and i know he wants to converse with others and have relations with them that are friendly and close bonded but he’s just so used to living his life a certain way that it’s hard to leave that bubble or comfort. not to mention, the way people perceive him further adds on to him staying in his bubble and i relate to him so much. we both don’t like to leave our comfort zones because that’s just what’s normal for us and that itself also causes people to judge us and not approach us. there might have been something that caused us to be that way whether it’s feeling neglected or not being accepted for who you are, etc.

and then there are people like oc who are similar to us in the sense they have a hard time letting people in, but the difference is they can easily converse with others if they want to which can help them make good relationships with others.

i hope that made sense haha but ultimately what i’m trying to say is that people’s perception about us makes us stray further away from others in general. it doesn’t necessarily mean we care what others think about us but more so we feel insecure or not confident in ourselves because we aren’t likable enough as others. i really love that this is a huge topic in the iwyts storyline and it really hits me hard (as does all of your stories and their deep topics :)

YES, anon YES, you’re making perfect sense and I loooove that that’s what you’re taking from it bc that’s how I envisioned this JK to be.

He’s not intentionally rude; he just has his own ways of dealing with things that aren’t always considerate. He lives in his head a lot and prefers to be alone bc there’s comfort and safety in that. He knows what people think of him, he doesn’t fully disagree but he won’t admit that it affects him alot, which also causes him to keep his distance bc he thinks that it’s just better if he’s not around (case in point, lunch with his team). We see from OC’s and yoongi’s perspectives that JK finds it difficult to connect with people bc he’s guarded and doesn’t think much of himself outside of work (which is why he pours his all into it bc he thinks it’s all he can over others, which is also why the Arts Center is so impt to him bc connection and beauty and intimacy are things he doesn’t think he can give). He did go through stuff and we’ll learn about them later on.

And then there’s OC who’s similar; they’re different sides of the same spectrum. She’s just as guarded, and we’ll learn soon enough that how she’s perceived affects how she sees herself as well. She’s got her own fears that keep her at a distance but she allows herself the joy of other people’s presence, which is also bc people aka her best friends made sure she didn’t isolate herself. People tried and she let them. Some of them, at least. So we see how these different self-perceptions and approaches to relationships complement and contrast each other.

Do you think jancy may not pull through? Honestly?

Honestly…I think there’s a good chance the writers might have Nancy single at the end. Like that’s their way out of the love triangle. Of course there were others ways, but they haven’t figured out yet how to make them all friends/interact. I also think a lot of what is confusing here is the way they wrote (or didn’t really write) the Emerson plotline and that we can’t tell if he def applied, if he applied but doesn’t want to go bc it really isn’t his dream, or if he’s really just scared. But the thing is we know it’s not his dream, NYU is.

I think the most impt thing is that they have really good scenes across the season bc there was so much left open/confusing and it feels like that bc the writers wanted to tease things, or leave open what they wanted to do, or didn’t know what they were doing. They clearly teased stancy in s4, but if they mean to solidify that as an option going forward, they didn’t after that Winnebago speech lol (altho I’m not sure the writers are aware how bad it sounded?).

Ig there’s a chance Jancy could be together at the end, but I could almost imagine a thing were it’s like they’re not together and you can imagine them reconnecting in the future. I like the way Charlie put it about all the love that’s there, so hopefully the writers remember that and whatever they do, they really have them talk and we see what’s really going on for each.

i think one of the sort of glaring problems with chyfr fandom whether it’s coming from chyrt or tchy shippers is this complete override of chihaya’s personal agency to the extent that like. you had people prior to the ending acting like it would be unfair to taichi if she got with arata and now you have people following the ending acting like it’s unfair to arata that she got with taichi. and i really don’t understand that sentiment at all bc like, in the end, is the story not about chihaya and her desires and her choices? like granted despite lacking a personal shipping preference i was initially of the belief chyrt would happen but when it didn’t i never really processed it through some lens of it being an unfair outcome to arata bc you don’t process romantic relationships through a lens of whether or not they’re “fair” to another party. i was of the same belief with respect to taichi when i thought chyrt would happen bc ultimately it wasn’t about what arata or taichi felt or what they might have thought was “fair”. they didn’t get to choose or claim chihaya, and they both knew it. so i really have always failed to understand and continue to fail to understand why so much of the conversation surrounding the romance is about what is and isn’t fair to either boy. romance isn’t about fairness. it’s about expressions of feeling and at least with respect to this series it’s about what the protagonist wanted. and personally i think suetsugu remained absolutely true to chihaya making a choice on her own terms and per her own assessment and i really would like it if more people respected that illustration and that maintenance of chihaya’s agency across the story at large, regardless of however you feel about the ending. i think that aspect to the romantic development of the story is really impt and doesn’t deserve to be undermined

i’ve been thinking about my emotional turbulence and lack of emotional regulation. the smallest things make me want to die. i just lose my shit all the time. one cup gets stuck inside another and i burn myself with hot water and hit myself in the face because how stupid must i be to allow something like that to happen? but im high functioning and i set the cup outside in hot water so that it expands and fill the cup inside with iced water so that it contracts and i manage to separate the two cups in the end. im high functioning but the cracks are there. people who see it can feel something’s off. i lose it at objects and at strangers. i try to exercise more control with the people in my life such that talking to people makes me feel like dying because whatever they’re getting isn’t who i am at all. i hate all my friends. i see the good in them. i’d rather be without them. but then what if i die of loneliness? fuck that, if there’s one thing i can take, it’s loneliness. i set up “tests” to see how much people want me in their lives. when they pass, i think they’re lying. when they fail, i think, good riddance. i don’t give a shit what anyone says but then one day im at the grocery store and i catch sight of my awful appearance in the mirror and i think about what that one friend said 20 years ago and how i’m probably the most incompetent person alive and i would shoot myself there and then

the point is i think the doctor misdiagnosed me a few years back with bipolar II. i had suggested to him that what i have is likely BPD, but he insisted that it was a mild bipolar (he did acknowledge that it was possible i had both) and proceeded to prescribe me a whole chunk of meds, some of them in the photo below. another one prescribed me 6 months worth of lexapro and an appointment just as much later bcos i had been in high spirits when i saw him and said i probably recovered—that’s just me talking out of my ass on a “good” day—the next day i crashed and burned and wanted to die again

im sick of the ups and downs. it’s exhausting

another therapist i had said a diagnosis. but im here watching all this content and while im by no means qualified to self-diagnose, i do think putting a name to what you have (accurately) makes it seem like there’s hope, things can be resolved

if you ever see those demonic possession horror movies, the first thing the priest does is to name the demon or whatever, and from there, they’re able to strategise the exorcism. in those scenes where the exorcism doesn’t go well, it’s usually revealed that the priest or the exorcist named the wrong demon. naming something correctly is so impt

with the ppl who don’t have mental illness, i think they just want me to “get over it”. with the ppl who understand that mental illness might be a thing, they think just going to a doctor or a therapist magically cures everything. to the mental health professional, i’m just another woman in my 20s crying for help, seeking validation, and riding the waves of the mental health awareness movement. yknow, just being trendy ✨

i don’t want to live anymore because every single fucking thing hurts. nobody cares about me. nobody chooses me. someone talked about watching an animal get killed and then eating it and i just couldn’t stop crying. yet i would probably stab a stranger on the streets with no regrets. it’s not even that i want to kill or hurt someone: i just need confirmation that the world i’m living in is real. maybe get beat up and murdered in prison or executed by law, whatever. put an end to this. i dont know what i feel anymore all i know is that i have no energy for any of it and if i feel anything it’s just false joy, then pain and anger

The nice girlfriend wanted to make tacos from scratch in honor of Cinco de Mayo so I set out on a dark and perilous journey to the grocery store armed with my newly minted bank loan!  Things are a little wonky price-wise now a days and that includes our staple items and basic grub we like to eat.  I know I nailed this shopping list line by line and I watched the cashier scan each item.  Head of lettuce $8.19 wtf?  I looked at the electronic screen and it was categorized as head of cabbage.  While 8/19 is my date of birth number - it's still not a sign strong enough to sell the GF on cabbage instead of lettuce for taco night.   “Please take it off” I said to the cashier in a polite tone.  Come to find out from the store manager; a restaurant buyer was there earlier in the day and bought all the lettuce.  Lettuce can be slang for money, and while cabbage can be too, we must be specific and say YES to what we want and say NO to what we know we don’t want.  The universe will respond in kind. Today I am standing up for what is right and what I believe in and I will remember that NO is a one word sentence.  I believe in making statements more than asking questions, so our statement for today will be, "I am asking for what I know I need and I am releasing that which is out of service in my life now.  I am claiming riches untold and I believe in magic and wonder and that will be how I choose to spend living the rest of my life!"

TGIWednesday: It's just a head of lettuce

TGIWednesday News

The nice girlfriend wanted to make tacos from scratch in honor of Cinco de Mayo so I set out on a dark and perilous journey to the grocery store armed with my newly minted bank loan!  Things are a little wonky price-wise now a days and that includes our staple items and basic grub we like to eat.  I know I nailed this shopping list line by line and I watched the cashier scan each item.  Head of lettuce $8.19 wtf?  I looked at the electronic screen and it was categorized as head of cabbage.  While 8/19 is my date of birth number - it's still not a sign strong enough to sell the GF on cabbage instead of lettuce for taco night.   “Please take it off” I said to the cashier in a polite tone.  Come to find out from the store manager; a restaurant buyer was there earlier in the day and bought all the lettuce.  Lettuce can be slang for money, and while cabbage can be too, we must be specific and say YES to what we want and say NO to what we know we don’t want.  The universe will respond in kind. Today I am standing up for what is right and what I believe in and I will remember that NO is a one word sentence.  I believe in making statements more than asking questions, so our statement for today will be, "I am asking for what I know I need and I am releasing that which is out of service in my life now.  I am claiming riches untold and I believe in magic and wonder and that will be how I choose to spend living the rest of my life!"  

Keep the faith folks... I just won this the other day for $1. LOL if nothing more, it's sheer entertainment!

i mean most abusers do love the people they abuse. abuse isn’t something done with intention or malice half the time, it’s done by people thinking they’re doing the right thing. bruce’s love and need for control are constantly in conflict with each other and that’s why the robins are stuck waging a war against him. i feel like a big part of a dysfunctional parent-child dynamic is feeling trapped by your parent’s love. Even if you hate it, it’s still canon that Bruce has been historically bad with dealing with his kids. Half of them don’t even feel comfortable calling him dad cuz the relationship seems so undefined or shaky. In Dick’s case i feel like he has no grounds to oppose robin and his vigilantism because Bruce (deep down) loved having someone like dick around to fight crime with. They both refer that time as “the good old days” so it’s not like Bruce was truly opposed. It’s only when the actual reality of that negligent and naive behaviour materialises that he realises he fucked up (robin year one eg). Then he treats Dick in such a cold manner that Dick believes if he’s not robin, he’s not wanted. This has been a pattern since the golden days so no it’s not ooc for Bruce. Yes the natural conclusion to all the modern day tension should be for both parties to meet and resolve their issues but Bruce is still the abuser at the end of the day, and even though Dick’s self sacrificing nature might easily forgive him, on a textual level it should be clear that a true resolution between the two would need Dick to dig deeper, and for Bruce to be ready for rejection from his son.

i don’t disagree with that assessment of abuse like it’s absolutely true, but my problem is i don’t think the cold or controlling behavior is really a consistent enough pattern until we move into post-crisis canon. for several decades dick and bruce have a great rapport with each other bc that’s what everyone knows they’re supposed to have. like i don’t think most writers from the golden or silver age if asked that they intended to write bruce as an abuser would agree and say yes, and that distinction to me is impt, bc sure, we can take what we’re reading on a surface level and project our own experience or modern understanding of relationships onto it, but i don’t think that should happen to the extent authorial intent is superseded bc then you start to enter territory where you’re divorcing narrative from genre conventions. if we go by the assumption that bruce is an enabler and abuser for allowing dick to be a hero for so long without purported attention paid to his safety then that establishes practically every hero within the universe possessive of a sidekick as an abuser. and i do get that some people are interested in following that thread like esp in post-crisis we see that exploration a lot but ig for me personally it’s kinda like the thing that breaks the camel’s back and withholds the entire genre from actually allowing itself to explore more pertinent issues. not to say abuse isn’t a pertinent issue, it absolutely is and i do think there’s ways it can still be explored, but the primary reason the genre was established in the first place was in response to fascism. obv the engagement with that wasn’t necessarily complex early on but it’s incredibly impt to the development of the genre and as we can see in a modern context how that response to fascism or lack thereof is conveyed can be incredibly influential in terms of facilitating support or not for fascist government. so my issue is like, yes, it’s impt for bruce’s faults in these relationships to be addressed to a constructive and worthwhile extent, but i also think writers have gone so drastically far in curating those faults in the post crisis era that it’s effectively restricted the scope of the stories they’re allowed to tell, bc they’re more focused on individual instances and relationships within this world than they are on any form of commentary that reflects the operations of the world at large in relation to regulation of crime

ahhhhh a lot of things happened in ch 8!!!! the whole thing with oc’s ex, jk taking care of her :( getting so angry at what she went through. making sure she’s ok at work. when oc didn’t expect jk to be as thoughtful and he said she brings out that side of him!!!! when they missed eo while he was on a trip :( oh and the start of the ch too when oc tried distancing herself and jk thought smthn was wrong???? 🥺🥺 oh my heart. i also loved how they’re so alike but in different ways. the parallelism of their childhoods! the choco pie and playground bit. and i also just love reading abt them working i imagine them being such a good duo

But all of those things you mentioned rly got us progressing! The thing with this closeness is jk realizing that he’s actually capable of caring for another person 🥹🥹 but then again, they’re still pretty bad with feelings (fair warning bc this is very impt!)

I love how you point out that they’re so alike bc it’s true. It’s why they understand each other but with that, they also approach things similarly and that’s not always good. Parallelism in their childhoods - that’s an interesting point!

These two work so well together. And that makes jk giddy too like, when he thinks about how she understands him when he rambles, when she elaborates on his points, when she gets everything organized for events… he’s 😍 internally haha

TGIWednesday: It's just a head of lettuce

The nice girlfriend wanted to make tacos from scratch in honor of Cinco de Mayo so I set out on a dark and perilous journey to the grocery store armed with my newly minted bank loan!  Things are a little wonky price-wise now a days and that includes our staple items and basic grub we like to eat.  I know I nailed this shopping list line by line and I watched the cashier scan each item.  Head of lettuce $8.19 wtf?  I looked at the electronic screen and it was categorized as head of cabbage.  While 8/19 is my date of birth number - it's still not a sign strong enough to sell the GF on cabbage instead of lettuce for taco night.   “Please take it off” I said to the cashier in a polite tone.  Come to find out from the store manager; a restaurant buyer was there earlier in the day and bought all the lettuce.  Lettuce can be slang for money, and while cabbage can be too, we must be specific and say YES to what we want and say NO to what we know we don’t want.  The universe will respond in kind. Today I am standing up for what is right and what I believe in and I will remember that NO is a one word sentence.  I believe in making statements more than asking questions, so our statement for today will be, "I am asking for what I know I need and I am releasing that which is out of service in my life now.  I am claiming riches untold and I believe in magic and wonder and that will be how I choose to spend living the rest of my life!"  

Keep the faith folks... I just won this the other day for $1. LOL if nothing more, it's sheer entertainment!

I’m assuming it was a joke because if he was actually coming back he wouldn’t be allowed to make any comments about filming

I’d hope so, but it went on a bit with Jamie. Idk at this point not only would it be a complete jumping of the shark if they brought him back as a zombie vampire which still seems unlikely, but do we even need flashbacks of Eddie even for Dustin (which I could see them doing)?

Like we’re already going to get flashbacks of Vecna forming the UD (good, we def need those), we might be getting more young Henry and Brenner flashbacks (unclear why the ones in s4 weren’t enough, but obvs could be impt). We also need (and should be getting) flashbacks of Will in the UD. So those are all v plot relevant.

And then in previous seasons we’ve had flashbacks and extensive backstory for Billy which we didn’t need. Meanwhile they haven’t given any backstory or flashbacks of Joyce, and they have severely underwritten OG characters.

Like Dustin’s memories of Eddie should not take over s5, but out of fan service, I’m sure that could happen. And I’m not sure why Dustin’s plotline (when he’s had a huge amount of screentime compared to other kids like Will) is relevant to the supernatural plot? But it sounds like they’re going to make it huge, again out of fan service.

Oh, no worries, I don’t mind answering!

I think the best way I can word it would be to say that I prefer to look at any of the central romantic dynamics within context of the trio specifically. This is a very polarizing opinion, I imagine, but I find it hard to divorce any of the three from the other two when I’m thinking about where they end up; they feel utterly inextricable of each other to me. There’s a romanticism in Taichi and Chihaya desperately striving for the lonely peak Arata sits atop not only to reach his level but also to help save him and pull him out from that well of loneliness; there’s a romanticism in so many of Taichi and Arata’s insecurities and jealousies about each other stemming from their mutual love for Chihaya and them sympathizing with each other by way of that; there’s a romanticism in Chihaya and Arata fighting to make good on their unspoken promises to Taichi so that his efforts that lead to them moving forward are ultimately worth it. Obviously, I do think there are individual aspects about each of these romantic pairings that are specific to them and can be theoretically divorced from the dynamic with the odd person out, but it doesn’t particularly interest me to look at them in that way alone. I feel like the way that they exist as a trio is so critical to understanding their relationships with each other that it’s hard for me to sometimes engage with the way the fandom discourses about the ships, because it’s so often invested in discussing two of the three alone when realistically the dynamics are not as simple as coming down to only what’s between two people. Maybe that’s a part of the reason I value an ending where their friendship with each other is prioritized? I don’t know. It’s naive in some capacity, given the limits of the genre and existing cultural standards, but in a more optimistic world I really prefer the ending where all three of them are in love with each other and exist as a unit. And if I can’t have that, then at least one where it’s still the three of them emphasized at the end, as best friends. I feel like Suetsugu has called back too many times to the concept for it not to be something she focuses on with her conclusions.

(To actually answer your question, though, I guess I would say I do? Maybe just not in the same way that most people tend to enjoy or view them.)
