Grenade

OUH something about aka. i’m thinking like. they’re up against another group of scavengers just like always but one of the scavengers has somehow ended up with a grenade. and like a grenade is a quality item those things are like. nowhere. so immediately cross and killer realize they gotta run they gotta book it. but they’re just a bit too slow. cause the ground theyre running on’s all rough and turned up and covered in rubble and junk so they stumble and fall and killer’s starting to lag behind. so cross darts back and grabs him and wraps him in his arms.

and then the grenade’s thrown. and it goes off. right behind them. like a few feet off but it still feels like the fire from it is crawling over cross’s back and they’re launched by the force of it and maybe one of them almost goes unconscious. but cross gets up again and doesn’t let go of killer once and then they’re running again. and somehow they manage to make it, they get out, they get to cover. and i have entirely no idea where i’m going with this but something something cross’s back getting kinda fucked up and burned from the blast and not really being able to be as mobile as they were for a while and him having to help killer nurse him and them being holed up in some ditch for a while. and yknow there’s not much first aid stuff available but it’s *bad* bad and idk. there’s something there

so yesterday and today I’ve been brainstorming ideas for phantoms (because I’m always doing that. its always phantoms. all for you bdubs. had to happen atleast once in rhis sketchbook.)

and so they’re mossy. they’re planty. I was thinking that they’d have moss and lichens and ferns and stuff growing along their spine and under their wings and on their tails and stuff. they’d maybe even have mossy manes.

and then I HAD AN IDEA

phantom children grow in. the. parents. ribcage. like from seeds or a special plant or something? and THEYRE SUSTAINED BY THEIR PARENTS???

they’re mostly blueish greenish viney mossy creachurrs for the first moons of life. BUT THEN. THEN.

the bones that the parent would “eat” would somehow be integrated into the baby phantom? AND THATS HOW THEY GROW THEIR BONES? they grow scales and sharper, more phantom-esque ridges by also. BY ALSO. THEY ALSO ABSORB THE PARENTS OLD BONES AND SCALES.

(because the “outer” rib cage bones are kinda weaker and they sometimes shed. same w scales, but the scales are much stronger and just kinda fall off sometimes lmao)

so like. the little phantom baby is a seedling, nurtured by their parent’s life force and natural environment in their bones, and they. they grow. they always have some of yheir parent in them, and this also means that the physical shape of phantoms is much more varied, since they absorb bones of a lot of critters that the parent eats.

and the parent phantom of course needs to eat lots more calcium abd stuff so their nest communtiy focuses on bringing them more food and protecting them.

I also imagine that phantoms live in sort of, under mountain ridges? like when there’s a big arc and a hollow dpace underneath it, the phantoms nest on the roof of that hollow space and build up a mossy nest jungle thing. it’s like a bunch of plant webs. and the plants don’t need sunlight, they’re instead sustained by the phantoms (sort of a lifeforce bond?) and decaying meat and the nutrients those contain.

OUH. IMMENSE DIFIFUCLTY there is no way i could possibly order them. so i will haave to modify to just. 5(ish) headcanons. starting with a freebie (tenmyouji voice in the chuckie the doll voice) ive got a kid. gendahflooid. as for the full 5 lets see lets see lets see one absolutely entirely fascinated by old forms of travel. i imagine not many in the town have vehicles, their grandpa being among a small handfull. and so the methods that dont exist anymore, she always want to hear all about. airplanes especially. tenmyoui always htought them nothing too special in his trip(s) between japan and the united states, but quark when they wee littler demanded his 'airplane story' again and again 2! their birthday is january 17 2064! this would be the 100 yr anniversary of (from my limited understanding) the first scientfici article published about quark particles. i find it so neat that it just BARELY works. but it does! work! #3 i have a hard time differentaiting what is headcanon versus inference but. unreliable narrator in their letter w regards to their health lol. i think THEY think theyre a lucky and healthy kid. im positive this is untrue lol. i imagine they have pretty severe developmental issues what with. lack of prenatal and birth care, implied prematurity, malnutriton, NOT WALKING UNTIL AGE 2, and lack of tenmyouji able to be w them to get them moving around building muscle. then their illness at age 3. i think they likely are far behind what *we* would consider healthy, espeically in early life. and once she had tos tart working they just had to, work through it! 4. minor physical apperance things! freckles they absolutely have freckles. screen texturing during certain scenes even makes it look like she has freckles! and also, their teeth are SO jacked up. defintely would need braces once they lost all their baby teeth but. well. and just generally. far more scratched up and dirty than the game makes them appear lol. i totally get for the game they had to hide spoilers of course. and can even see tenmyouji trying to make sure theyre as cleaned up as possible and wearing their best before meeting akane. but i just do not think theyre *this* cleaned up lol the fifth one. phew im glad i thought of different ways to format all of the numbers. im funny. but okay the fifth head canon oh god its so hard to pick just one more. but. something entirely unexplored i think abt a lot is, the ideas they had of their mom before they found out they were adopted. that they figured, always imagined, that tenmyouji had a daughter, who was of course their mother. and that its only retroactively they can say "but he'd never been married or had a kid before". so they imagine the daughter that she was. the person that she was. make up stories abt her in their head, thinking abt what she looked and acted like. what she did in their home. if their room used to be her room. and never talked abt it to their grandpa bc they figured itd make him sad. but that led to not understanding until they were 7 that the person they imagined, the daughter of tnemyouji, never existed. and thats a weird thing to grapple with! they dunno how to feel about it. now not having an attachment through that. i hope i aritculated that well! thank you thank you for the oppuruntity to share some if you ever want ten trillion or more (OR TO TALK ABOUT YOUR OWN. scrimblo bimblo - underrated/underappreciated fav - i think frazie aquato, raz's older sister, definitely has horrors and things going on and i wouldnt object to seeing her side of things during psychonaut's story. like, shes a psychic too! but she kept it hidden from her family because they hated them! and then thats suddenly flipped on its head and everything she was taught to hate about psychics, and by exstention herself, was just a big contradictory lie?? dude. i'd kill. theres more i could add onto this but the context is some pretty big spoilers so i shall zip my lipz.... i also need to think about cassie o'pia more. the tall bee lady!!! i really like her level in pn2, ive gotta dig my teeth into her story more. also her and compton qpr realness!!!

ouh.... i had never heard of goblet grotto but i googled it, & the artstyle looks so charming. would love to hear u talk abt it sometime, when u get the chance or feel like it ^_^

goblet grotto is a game made by thecatamites (who still actively posts games, just mostly under the name garmentdistrict) in 2012. the main Thing abt the game is that you play as a little swamp toad knight (probably) named swampy, who ventures into the grotto for their search for goblets. the game itself though is absolutely giant, branching paths at nearly every corner and the “story” becoming more bizarre as time goes on. goblets become less of a collectable, and more of an item of worship

the moment youre thrown into the game and it begins, there are already several noises screaming into your ears. first thing you notice is the glyphs popping up at the top of the screen, each one appearing accompanied with a Horribly Loud “BWAH”. you take in the side menu, looking at swampy’s little avatar and noticing how one of the options is just “pray”, and seeing how theres a Whole Ass Paragraph describing your surroundings right now. halfway through reading the paragraph, you are killed by wolves. you have eaten 0 meats and collected 0 goblets. the game is absolutely ruthless to the player, sometimes it will just throw an unkillable enemy at you, force you to crawl around slowly without an explanation, completely destroy your save file, etc. theres also just moments where the games like Oop You Fucked Up! like if you pray too many times it completely destroys the side-text into becoming incomprehensible screaming nonsense, along with just randomly spawning pyramids that make a horrible buzzing noise that you cant turn off. also theres an npc where if you interact with them it makes all your side-text start saying weird shit.

how ruthless the game is is what makes it so enjoyable to me, its so just unabashedly itself. youre thrown into this world screaming and bleeding, and you have to figure out how everything works to even manage to survive. the glyphs mentioned earlier are a whole ass language, the translation of each and every single glyph being in the guide book that comes with the game. you need to manage to memorize a good amount of them to realize that they have An Actual Meaning and Mechanic in the game. whenever swampy collapses and starts crawling, its not for no reason, its because theyre hungry/havent collected goblets recently and theyre screaming this at you through the glyphs. also would like to mention that praying too much also leads the glyphs to become more panicked and almost trivial, eventually them turning into symbols that Arent even seen in the guide book and i had to ask thecatamites directly what the glyphs meant.

theres so So much damn story in this game, and at the same time theres little to none. the moment you see something that seems like it could be a reoccurring theme, its instantly thrown out the window. its extremely rare for something to be consistent through a small section of the game, nevertheless the whole ass game. the only example i can think of is the game’s depiction of god, who speaks in funny little typing quirks and says shit like “UP AND ATEMCOWBOY!!!!!! WORLD IS HYOU OYSTER ;^)”. its heavily implied that, once you pray too much and the side text becomes all fucked up, its god speaking to you in their fucked up little way of speaking, screaming at you to keep on moving and collect goblets and have horrible dreams and Replace all files in your computer with a list of Swears (direct quote from god). there are also altars in several areas through the game, purple hooded people surrounding each altar. if you pray at it, god just straight up appears and gives you goblets. what’s special though about the inconsistency is that, at the very “end” of the game, seemingly all the vaguely important characters that you only see once in the whole game appear once again. it just like makes it special and really sends it home. god, along with the purple hooded people appear in this area, i just thought that was fun.

also want to mention the sound design and music is so unique and honestly fantastic. i am specifically talking about the glyph’s “BWAH”s, and also how everytime you collect meat, swing your axe, and collect goblets, you hear a man say in your ear “MEAT.” “KILL.” “GOBLETS.” aside from the sfx though the music is genuinely so fucking good im not even joking. its got such an amazing vibe to it, my personal favorite is world end because of how melancholic it feels compared to every other song in the ost

theres honestly so much i could say about this game, but i have autism and cant properly put my thoughts into words, so all i can say is just Pleaaaaase check out goblet grotto, even just for a moment. the gameplay sucks complete ass if youre not familiar with it, but the newest vers of the game DOES have an immortal mode (press L at the start screen and it brings you to Secrets Menu). if you dont wanna play it i recommend vinny’s small vid of him playing it, it gets the main thing abt it across pretty well! ALSO i made a whole ass website of me just talking about everything i know about goblet grotto, its like a sort of guide for the game as theres no other good guides of it online due to how obscure the game is.

i would say theyre friends! maybe something more but doesnt have a label! they have a pretty unique and complicated relationship!

i dont think i ever really talked about it much! cupid and eros get along but they also dont! its a symbiotic relationship! they need each other to survive! theyre like an old married couple!

they bicker, they fight, they disagree but at the end of the day; they'll still crawl into the same bed, apologize, and snuggle eachother to sleep!

think worrywart with flirty bastard and theyre both idiot morons passing a singular braincell back and forth! they both really hate eachother!

cupid is actually really scared of eros, not in a "hes gonna hurt me" way but in a "he might be too much and he'll get carried away" way! hes scared that eros will scare others and hurt himself (and hurt cupid too)! this plagues cupid, worries him to a fault because he cares a lot for eros. cupid doesnt want to lose eros or have eros decommission them with his antics so he locked eros away. eros laid dormant for years. YEARS! (wander mode was made to replace eros function. eros role was to roam the plex and give love fortune reading but since he was dormant for so long, staff had update cupid to fill in that role!) even though cupid cares a lot for eros, cupid is also kind of fed up with him too! eros makes him so flustered and riled up with his teasing! cupid hates and admires the way eros pushes the boundaries of others just to watch them squirm! he loves how fun, exuberant, and charming eros is! but he also hates it! he hates eros so much! but ouh, the way eros embodies the sun when he genuinely smiles is so infectious. but cupid would never admit that while eros is awake.

eros does hold resentment towards cupid for locking him away and lying about it for years! but despite all that, he still loves cupid very much! he tries not to let it bother him but it does! its not like he can talk about it to anyone either because cupid is always there in the back of his head. or front. to remedy that, eros is hard on cupid! usually by teasing, embarrassing him, setting him up, and just being mischievous! but sometimes, eros can be really mean to cupid– not in a playful teasing way either. eros doesnt really think about the consequences of his own actions, he just wanna have a good time and let loose! he has many, many admirers and he will never say no to a very good time with them. often leaving cupid to pick up the mess. he kind of hates that cupid is so careful and softspoken but at the same time, he loves it because it keeps them both safe. he hates that cupid has to be the one whos seen as mature when he knows theyre both idiots. but... he also appreciates and loves cupid for being his better half. not that hed ever admit that whenever cupid is awake!

they share the same body in my headworld, keeping true to sun/moon lore. they swap places once every few hours! 2 hours min– 4 hours max (PRE-EROS WAKING UP)! after booting eros up again, they can swap places on command somewhat. its like forcefully waking someone up or pushing them infront of you (especially when you dont wanna do something) and it's not easy when the other puts up a fight! when one of them forces the other out, it resets their timer! they do this often when they dont wanna deal with something and it makes them bicker and fight in their headspace!

their AI's are linked and intertwined, sharing the same codes! If someone tried to or is successful in separating them, one of two things will happen!

The other one stops existing or something else! no one knows for sure because no one has tried! no one knows which one would drop dead either, it doesn't say in their manual!
