What I find so funny and satisfying about this show so far is that a lot of these slimmer built athletic types keep underestimating the agility of a lot of the people with bigger builds, especially those with round bellies and protective fat layers, only to get themselves twisted up like human pretzels or fucking flung about like house flies with a single hand LMAO

Sprite is the kid of nugget and an unnamed mother from nugget being very irresponsible and not thinking. But he doesn't consider his child a mistake. He's very jokey and brash and likes to prank people and yeah he has a lot of angst surrounding his family but he doesn't like to show that and puts up a smile for everyone.

Xeno is the daughter of dice and keno (characters who belong to my bf who I haven't shown much). Coming from such an important family like theirs, she kinda has a lot of pressure put on her. But her parents don't want her to feel like that. She's been trained and is very good but she likes sticking to herself and is very quiet. Very deathly stare though.

Reiden is sprite's cousin and his absolute best friend. He's the son of Ray and Piers (who I have not shown much either, Ray is nuggets brother). He's pretty fun and very loud. His dads try to teach him a lot of what they did in their past in the hopes he could also do that. But theyre also very laid back and rei hates studying. So right now he's having fun in turfs wars and not caring about school.

Skye is the daughter of domino and rii. Once they got together and matured a bit they knew they wanted to have a family. Rii is a designer and domino is a teacher and skye finds her parents so so cool and really wishes she was like them. Especially when dom tells her stories about his past. But she has a lot of anxiety and self image issues and as much as she tries to dress cool, it won't exactly magically make her that way. She's very smart, and the strategist of the group.

Note: She is not a octoling anymore. I really wanted to redesign her lol, and I think this fits her better.

rivals-to-lovers with rodimus and characters like rodimus (but mostly just rodimus); being his rival and someone who antagonizes him but at the end of the day you begrudgingly respect him and know he has potential (which is painful bc hes so stupid) and as you fight side by side and save each other and help each other with your internal struggles, the passion between you blossoms into love

old-flames-who-were-evil-together-but-eventually-things-went-sour-but-then-...-you-reconnect with megatron specifically; someone who was an advisor and by his side before the war, a strategist and a major brain behind the formation of the decepticons iconic evil plots, but eventually you start to despise him for turning this thing you cared so much for into something that you neither of you wanted to begin with but both of you are so sullied by your horrible actions theres no repentance for either of you, you fuck off to some planet to escape punishment bc youre not going down like this, idk you reconnect and although you have a lot of bad blood between you theres still relief that megatron is alive and didnt get executed. in the beginning all you wanted was the best for megatron and your planet now you two are unrecognizable compated to the mechs you were before so you take comfort in each other bc who better to console him and stand by his side than someone just as horrible and tainted.

haughty-diva-and-the-person-they-'settled'-for is also a dynamic i love esp for mechs like whirl and swerve and trailcutter who see themselves as undesirable and perhaps even unattractive to others, but anyone could see they have insane chemistry with this hottie. someone who is also probably pretty bad at expressing their feelings and doesnt know how to say they like someone bc theyre used to being hit on not hitting on others.

old mechs paired with a bouncy youthful personality, opposites attract sort of thing. ratchet and magnus (sometimes megs) are my usual go-tos for this dynamic but it could work for others like tarn or kaon. theres a lot of world weary mechs to go around so i like the idea of someone who isnt so jaded paired with this type of personality, i think it can be very cute.

im partial to maternal nurturing type reader inserts, but im not sure which mech is best paired with a personality like that. a soft mommy dom if you will. not submissive but breedable. along with this, a reserved quiet but thoughtful character who is secretly sort of dumb is cute. again not sure who they would bounce off of, but i like to imagine this reader insert takes care of alien plants and doesnt have an easy time interacting with others. a blunt dry humor. more of a comic relief type.

ratbat with someone who is very much a bystander on the nemesis, perhaps a no-name maintenance bot, but one thing leads to another and he relies on this mech to be his henchman and obvs theyre gonna listen to him he's their superior but also they arent Built Different they are very much built to standard code theyre not gonna pick a fight bc even ratbat could wipe the docking bay with them 😔 cannon fodder,,,, ratbat is happy just to have someone who wont fight him on this, so he starts to see them as less of a disposable and more of a nuisance (which IS a step up) i think this sort of dynamic is also cute for starscream with a newbie seeker. someone who will listen to him and polish his heel thrusters if he demands it without grumbling and thats rare to find so he treats them to,,, less shrieking than is usual for him. will not let you die on the battlefield even if he complains that saving you is a waste of his time.

sunstreaker and sideswipe in another rivals to lovers scenario, but i see this less as rivals and more as "hardnosed mech who is unrelenting in their principles really hates these two bullies"; starting out from them being absolute menaces and just awful (as per ush) to developing a soft spot for a mech who is just as stubborn and blunt as they are in their approach and who wont leave either twin to waste away on the battlefield from an injury even if theyre like,,, reeeeally awful to them. what can i say i think the twins would appreciate a show of loyalty and camaraderie even if they pretend they dont need that sort of thing.

optimus and a creepy little con. ive done a fill for a request like this. just optimus having a soft spot for this little weirdo who has too much interest in him.

in the same vein, bumblebee with a cutesy creepy little con. someone who is sort of his opposite? the bumblebee of the decepticons, if bumblebee terrified all his fellow autobots. falls in love with him for saving them or something and now they wont leave him alone. he is reluctant to admit theyre cute bc hes a loyal autobot and they also scare him.

im always open to more dynamics and tropes bc its pretty clear how i write, i need a base personality to write the reader insert off of and i dont like to leave it as "they love you and thats the most important aspect of your character" i just dont think being loved is an important trait for a character to have, its an important action for them to perform and for others to perform towards them but its not a good basis for a personality

i also love dynamics that can have a lot of depth and backstory added to them so i get a feel for where the reader has been and why they are the way they are (im not partial to shy types personalities tho bc i like more assertive characters that can move the plot more with their actions/words)

bh bomb perchance …

(This ask is referring to my Phighting OC, BH Bomb! I have them uploaded on Art Fight)

This ask got me thinking about BH Bomb during work, so here's some doodles I did! Was mostly thinking about their younger years, back before they were experimented on. Typed up all the notes I wrote on the doodles for easier readability, and I'm going to elaborate more under the read more!

BH Bomb would have had a large interest in space. I don't actually think that space, as we know it, even EXISTS in the Phighting universe, but whatever IS there is what BH Bomb would have been interested in. He'd have used he/him pronouns when he was younger, so I'll use he/him pronouns to refer to young Black Hole as opposed to BH Bomb as they are currently.

His gear would've been pretty powerful already, that's why weapons department wanted to use him, but he was a BAD PHIGHTER. He was bad at strategy, and even worse with teamwork. His gear would be a ranged action where he throws the bomb somewhere, and then it would pull in whoever is in its radius, like Subspace's tripmine. The difference is that its radius was much bigger, and it effected teammates too. This means it would be incredibly good as a positioning tactic. Black Hole, however, would ONLY use it to propel HIMSELF forward: He'd throw it where he wanted to go and then the pull would bring him there. He wouldn't care much that every time he used it it would mess up all his team's positions, and that any range would be pulled off their perch, and any weaker phighters would be pulled into all their enemies at once. This means that all ranged and movement-based phighters would HATEEE phighting with Black Hole.

(This means that when G Balloon coaches them into becoming a phighter, all their prowess with strategy and teamwork and Actually Being Good At Phighting, IS BECAUSE G Balloon taught them that. As silly as she is, G is an incredible strategist and a good coach.)

To be clear, as much as the experiments hurt BH Bomb and terrified them, and as much as they THINK they'd have been better off never being transferred, if they had never been transferred they actually wouldn't have been all that happy either. If they had never been transferred, they never would have stopped to think about their gender identity and would still be going by he/him and would feel stifled in presenting masculine. They'd be swamped with work and never have a moment to themself, being basically a NASA scientist, and while they do like space, they'd never have time feel happy. Certainly they'd be way better off than being a weapon, but they think their life would have been wonderful if not for the experiments and theyre wrong about that.

theyd get along SO well in any non-dsmp setting theyd literally be best friends. they have so much in common such similar values tubbo would teach techno how to relax a little and be just a bit more openly affectionate, that its safe to show more emotion around people you love and sometimes you HAVE to take chances on others whether you want to or not. techno could teach tubbo to be more confident in himself and not let anyone push him around, theyre both so fiercely loyal, theyre both such good fighters!! tubbo is genuinely a great strategist in and out of battle. how much would techno give for someone to openly care for and defend him the way tubbo did ranboo when q suggested execution? how much would tubbo give for someone to actually stick by his side and openly fight for him the way techno was willing to do for tommy? tubbos willingness to listen and learn while also being smart enough to keep people on their feet and continuously surprise them. the capacity to be very quiet and attentive the same way he can be chaotic. they could farm together. tubbos old automated farms were so good. they both find loyalty so fucking important they both have a tendency to repress things and be stubborn they both love their friends and their pets so bad. enough in common to be fantastic friends but enough differences to learn a lot from each other and challenge each others views and habits for the better. tubbo doesnt even know about government and politics he could and would be a syndicate member

Izuki

Why I like them: izuki’s just overall so amazing! he inspires me to give my best in the stuff i do, and although it sounds a bit silly i try to be a person that he’d be proud of. his puns are hilarious and well-thought-out (as a person who loves words and word jokes, i’m naturally drawn to him lol). they’re also a way to take the heat off the team, he’s so hardworking and never views obstacles as obstacles, rather as hills he must climb to find newer skies. he’s also rather clever and employs his brains to great effect when his body fails him! izuki embodies the meaning of ‘eagle’ in the truest sense - waiting to strike when the time is right and not failing when it is.

Why I don’t: *sweats* can’t really think of a reason i don’t like izuki, at all??? i guess he can overwork himself a lot and tends to keep his true emotions hidden which could lead to misunderstandings between friends (although this is totally headcanon territory lol)... i also didn’t like the ableist comment he passed on hayama (“i’m just glad you weren’t smarter than me”). but i think he can (and will!) grow from that kind of stuff, he is that kind of person so yeah no particular reason for me to dislike him at all

Favorite episode (scene if movie): how dare you make me pick s3 e8 izuki vs kasamatsu, hands down. i know its like cliche or whatever but that moment just told me so much about izuki as a character? he’s willing to do what it takes to win, he’s adaptable and dependable and he doesn’t let shit get him down ever. it’s gorgeous

Favorite season/movie: s3, he got some fantastic moments in there!! although i will say i loved the spotlighting he got in s1 in the seihō match

Favorite line: “Fear isn't a bad thing. There are some things that can only be done by cowards.” this is first of all such a nice thing to say. ‘fear is not bad’ is just... so fucking wise? keep in mind that this boy is 17, i’ve met 30 year olds who are less mature. secondly it feels like izu’s speaking from experience?? like he has a lot to be scared of, i’m sure. particularly of falling behind and being a burden to his teammates. but it’s that ‘cowardice’ that drives him to practice so so hard. that visceral terror of weighing on seirin is what pushes izuki beyond his limits - which is why here he can empathise with furi’s fear, and knows how best to employ it.

Favorite outfit: look i hate last game w/ a passion but that lil tie/shirt/hoodie thing he had going? that was literally so cute. izuki in general has a p great fashion sense but his last game outfit takes the cake <3

OTP: hyuuizu oh my god i could talk for years about them but since this post is gonna be very long i’ll refrain. just. they are perfect they are fucking perfect

Brotp: kiyoizu!! kiyoshi is izuki’s biggest enabler and i love that for him <3

Head Canon: izuki can be very very passive aggressive when he’s angry at someone/sad and gets cold and withdrawn. it’s not fun to experience but tbh if you upset him you probably deserve it

Unpopular opinion: izuki should’ve been naturally better in canon. it’s not fair to shaft him and give the ‘trier’ thing off to himuro. that being said i am p happy with who he is as a person

A wish: i want to know how izuki felt after middle school! izuki’s and riko’s backstory focuses so much on hyuuga its dumb >:( he also would’ve been demoralised but he didn’t quit bball and i would like to know his thought process!

Kiyoshi

Why I like them: lots of reasons! kiyoshi is an admirable person. he’s strong, yet friendly and gentle, and he loves his team above all else, which i just find beautiful. i find his manipulative side also pretty cool, bc it shows off how multifaceted he is.

Why I don’t: this is more of a fandom reason but i really dislike how kiyoshi is always said to have had the greatest impact in hyuuga’s story. he badgered and manipulated hyuuga, and while some may argue hyuuga needed that push, it only worked bc hyuuga had had time to think about shit. he’d also been given space by riko and izuki (two integral parts of his life whom the fandom looooves to sideline for uwu kiyo//hyuu). 

Favorite episode (scene if movie): yousen match (can’t pick the episodes)! i loved the backstory we got for kiyo vs mura and i loved how kiyoshi was willing to smile and play but also refused to lose. he truly stole the show despite kagami being the one to finally take down murasakibara, it was gorgeous <3

Favorite season/movie: s2 for sure. kiyoshi wasn’t allowed to shine much after yousen imo - all the focus was on hyuuga kagami and kuroko, and to a lesser extent izuki. not complaining, but yeah

Favorite line: “Let’s go have some fun.” i know it’s kinda cliche but i do love how kiyoshi’s always thinking about playing a good game and enjoying basketball. he wants to play because he loves it and as someone who loves a sport as much as kiyoshi loves b-ball, that love is so poignant and tender

Favorite outfit: practice clothes! kiyoshi looks great in pink <3

Why I like them: im a lesbian, next. /j i love her because she’s so tenacious and driven. yet she’s also kind and gentle, and never loses her humanity. she cares, and she cares hard. she’s so fucking smart too like... coaching a hs basketball team at 17 against players of NBA calibre and making them win? i could never. seirin without riko is nothing.

Why I don’t: i dont like the constant slapstick of her beating up her boys. also, i dislike how the narrative forces her to act ‘feminine’ and then has the boys think of it as nothing. like first of all if someone like her offered me a kiss i would so take 100, and secondly... why is a girl’s worth so tied to her femininity? it’s awful

Favorite episode (scene if movie): her sending in furi vs kaijō, early in s3. it was an exceedingly smart move that could have only come from her knowing her players’ strengths and weaknesses intimately, and being a brilliant coach. just amazing <3

Favorite season/movie: all of them! riko has some amazing moments each season, so i can’t really pick

Favorite line: “Humans grow. Don't act like you understand when you don't even realize that!” here, riko knows and knows well that she is in her element. momoi might have the data, but riko understands adaptability and knows how to predict stuff. in that way, one can draw parallels between takao vs izuki and momoi vs riko: takao and momoi are recon experts, whereas riko and izuki are strategists. momoi uses raw data; riko manipulates the data to her advantage

Favorite outfit: idk if this is exactly an outfit but her glasses are so cute oh my gosh. (i’d kill to see her in a leather jacket tho)

Why I don’t: he’s perverted as hell and i dislike that. it plays into the ‘brutish dark-skinned pervert’ stereotype which is yikes. also i thought we were done with pervs in anime

Favorite episode (scene if movie): s2 seirin v touou when kagami enters the zone!! aomine’s finally happy and it’s so amazing to watch <3

anyway this gets really long so im gonna talk about the beta kids and trolls cause i havent elaborated on the alphas at all ((peep the tags if you wanna see their parents though))

johns the son of zeus, rose is the daughter of athena, dave is the son of apollo, and jade is the daughter of demeter. they were all raised in their respective states, all had to come to new york for various reasons. jades been there the longest, shes been there 9 years and shes been on a couple quests. her biggest accomplishment so far is how she protected the camp from this big vicious angry hellhound that got past the barrier. naturally the girls fluent in Dog Training, so she steps up and instead of trying to kill this thing, she reaches out and tames it as fast as she can. it ends up actually working, and ever since that day she, her cabin, and the camp have a whole bodyguard sleeping right outside the demeter cabin! hes her steed in battle and hes a Very Good Boy. and his name is becquerel

johns the newest kid at camp, he has no idea who he is or why the fuck his school got attacked or why in the hell those anemoi thuellai were so fixated on him or HOW in the hell he absorbed the lightning one threw at him and ended up fine,,, hes just a big mess right now. a big enough mess that when he got claimed by literally zeus, no one else was around, he shrugged it off as some basic magical happening, and he stayed in the hermes cabin far longer than he should have cause no one! fucking knew he got claimed! by zeus of all people! dumbass. he ends up figuring it out though. like an off-hand mention about how this “weird lightning thing appeared above my head a couple weeks ago, haha weird right?” once he figures it out he realizes “hey i might be able to fly” so he sneaks off into the woods to try it. he succeeds fairly quickly but god almighty everyones face the one day the dude just yote himself off a small cliff without warning,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

dave and rose are really tight, theyve been there roughly the same time length, and since their cabins are across from each other they just bother each other all the time. daves the resident Doctor even though he really doesnt look it cause hes got the apollo powers. apollo is the medicine god. so if you wound your stupid ass in battle daves in the ER room patching you up with his glowy hands. rose on the other hand is a very good strategist. shes one of the only athena kids ever recorded to actually have a power - telekinesis. she has no idea how she developed it, she thinks its from birth, but it freaks her out. shes training it though.

so the beta trolls, are also all human(ish). aradias hades kid. but i pulled a pjo trope on her based on one of my favorite characters (im not saying for spoilers, but if you recognize the situation, You Probably Know Who Its Based Off) and aradia died. her mom, the handmaid, had been pulling some Shady Ass Shit and ended up getting herself killed, but aradia tried saving her and ended up going down with her.

so handmaid gets sentenced to the fields of punishment in the underworld, and aradia gets sentenced to elysium, heroes paradise. shes like “no i want my mom to be okay” so they take that away from aradia and they put them both in the fields of asphodel, the neverending grey space for Not So Good But Not So Bad people. her mom becomes a shade (shadow spirit, no human resemblance), as all people do, but aradia. doesnt? and she gets dunked in the fucking river lethe and if you dont know what that does it erases your memory. so she just. comes out of the river like “hello? wgat tae fukc goin on??” but she still remembers one thing. there was an “a” in her name.

tavros is the son of hermes, hes just kinda taken on the role of backup counselor for when the actual cabin counselor is out. hes in a wheelchair, but he also has prosthetic legs for when he needs to actually stand up and fight. hes really good at it too. also catch him in winged converse cause he Owns Those and Uses Them To His Advantage. hes trying his best to keep focused on the camp, cause aradia was his childhood friend, he misses her a whole lot, she never got to camp in the first place. and to his knowledge, shes still dead.

sollux is a janus kid. thats a problem cause janus is roman, and this is a greek camp. he grew up with dave, he showed up with dave, hes been at camp as long as dave. but hes been unclaimed since he showed up so he thinks hes unwanted by whatever parent he has. he knows hes a demigod, he got through the camp barriers, so what the fuck is wrong with him? he also feels shitty cause hes shit at the greek lessons, he cant read a lick of it which literally every demigod without exception should be able to do, he cant name any gods- well, he can, but.. he gets their names mixed up. why does he keep calling poseidon “neptune”? and he has a much, much different way of natural fighting than other kids. they slice, he jabs. he wasnt taught to jab. 

karkat is an aphrodite kid with vitiligo, and to make matters worse, hes ace and on the aro spectrum. to make matters WORSE, the aphrodite kids are kinda notorious for being really shallow, really materialistic, and really mean. karkats been dubbed the “runt” of the cabin, he gets made fun of for his spots to the point where he uses make up and magic to conceal them. worst of all? hes the kid of the goddess of love, for fucks sake. being reminded that “loveless people shouldnt be able to stay in this cabin, mom must have made a mistake claiming you” is kind of.. a blow to the self esteem. long story short he hates aphrodite for claiming him, and would have rather stayed in the hermes cabin. but he eventually goes on this big quest thats vague as fuck right now but Its The Main Plot, he ends up proving to himself that hes worth something and that his siblings are wrong, and my FAVORITE LINE IN THE WHOLE THING i came up with is HIS when he deals a final blow to some big monster: “REMEMBER MY FACE THE NEXT TIME YOU REINCARNATE. MY NAME IS KARKAT VANTAS, I’M THE SON OF APHRODITE, AND LOOKS CAN KILL.”

nepeta isnt anywhere near developed as others are unfortunately, shes a daughter of ares and shes really really good at hand to hand combat. shes small but she leads groups of people in things ranging from camp volleyball games to actual literal wars. shes a tough little shit

kanaya isnt really developed either, i have yet to figure out most of her powers too actually, shes a daughter of iris, the rainbow goddess though. (blatant reference to both kanayas vampirism and. h. her. sh. es ga. gay) ONE THING SHE CAN DO THOUGH is iris message at will without water or drachmas so really shes just everyones go to cell phone and its fucking hilarious cause people just come into the cabin like “KANAYA I NEED TO TALK TO [X]” and shes like “You Better Fucking Pay Me I Am Not Your Personal Cell Phone”

terezi is the daughter of nemesis and she has this really peculiar power she hasnt really gotten the hang of yet. she has synesthesia, so while she cant see she can smell and taste the colors of her surroundings and its really helpful. sometimes though she gets messages from her mom. they dont even come as dreams half the time, they come as almost a different plane altogether. tez has the power to literally tip the scales, pretty much. and when she gets like that, she can see. shes not on earth though, shit on earth stops when shes like that. shes just kinda In Her Own Head, i guess? and in her head she holds the two scales in her hands. she is the arms of the scale. and depending on which one she lifts up, she can literally alter the fate of the battle or happening thats going on By Herself. once she chooses she just whooshes back to real life though and nothing has changed. the only downside? it takes a LOT of energy and cant be exploited for little things. her one thing on her bucket list is to tap into said powers while getting something from a vending machine so like three things will fall out but it hasnt happened yet and shes upset

vriskas a daughter of tyche, the luck goddess, come the fuck on you knew i was gonna, i havent really elaborated on her either and im upset about that. but hey now you get a break from all those fucking paragraphs

equius is a hephaestus kid, and he kinda stays in the background. hes a range fighter, he spends a lot of time in the forge, and even though its been a project looooong since forgotten, hes been excavating the tunnels under cabin nine for years. by himself. he has no idea where they lead, but dammit hes gonna find out where. he has no idea about a certain bunker in the woods though...

gamzees just there for a fucking laugh tbh hes a son of dionysus and i love that cause hes the god of wine and parties and insanity. usually gamzees just zoning out somewhere hes Not supposed to be, and hes not affected by the maenads FUCKED UP BULLSHIT that goes down the forest sometimes. also hes so fucking scared of tavroses wing shoes he tried them on once while he was high and JESUS CHRIST

eridan is the son of kymopoleia, a SUPER obscure goddess. lets just say dont fuck with eridan cause his mom is the goddess of violent sea storms,

having loose initial thoughts for a glitch (tabletop rpg) character w a bane of names/being named...

like it starts just like. no name they pick fits for more than a few weeks. after that they feel itchy, uncomfortable, ill fitting. its a little weird, bc it's like. they don't feel that much of a connection w the flower whose name they borrowed? the character they named themselves after wasn't that much like them at all? they don't really feel that much resemblence w the relative who shares their name? their Fancy Strategist Name has a really ill fitting meaning? etc etc etc

eventually every name just feels weird and out of place, but when people start using referents for them instead, especially repeatedly, they quickly become Wrong too. their friend has taken to jokingly calling them "brunette" for lack of anything better, but their hair isnt really brown - its not much of any color, really, but it's certainly not brown enough to be used as a label. someone refers to them as "the short one over there", but they're not short (or tall, or really any height). etc. the references, the things that identify them, all burn out and become untrue as soon as theyre used to label.

and, ofc, eventually someone goes "hey, you!", but they're not a "you". theyre not there.

at which point back out of reality they go!

here's an easy one: successful space pirate AU!

okay listen. listen. vriska is absolutely shit at being a captain. shes an excellent strategist, and good at keeping things afloat by force, but she is an absolutely godawful captain who can only keep people in line by knowing that the only other option is death

so if vriska were to become a truly successful space pirate, then wed have to do some tinkering:

- first step: no crew. fuck a crew. people suck and they dont listen to her. you know whats better than a crew? robots. robots literally do whatever you say! robots dont have a choice! and if they fuck up then youre the one who has to fix it anyways, so you dont have to trust them to clean their messes the way you want them to either

- second step: fuck normal ships? fuck helmsmen? vriska likes helmsmen as companions but she does not like an actual person plugged up to her ship. its even worse than a regular crew member because they are literally between you and your ship. bad. awful. instead the engine would just turn into the final form of a hodgepodge frankenstein helm-less engine. everything else would be programmed up to a big control panel that she can futz with at her leisure. repetitive tasks? just automate those to the robots, babey

- control panels are still just a little clunky, though. itd really be even nicer if there was something even more direct than that. can mindscourges be hooked up to a ship? its not like she needs much, with all the engine stuff taken care of it, and everything already routed to one place. all she would need is to turn a little biowire into a receiver, right?

- for that matter, if youre linking yourself to the ship, why not just link yourself to the robots too? its all the same system. it wouldnt be hard or anything. diagnostics would be easier, changing their routines would be easier. it might even be possible to change them to make it feel a bit more like mind-controlling a person. and if she got good at that, then she could start going in with a crew of mindcontrolled pawns, just like she used to, but even better! and since all of that requires putting a receiver in anyways, she might as well start looking at other ways she could experiment with herself...

- so in a couple decades you have this lanky spider thats self-biomodded to fuck and back. the whole ship and her whole “crew” is neurolinked to her, and shes effectively a one person death squad that can roll in and fuck your shit up harder than any other pirate crew around just because of how goddamn efficient she is. its almost like being attacked by a hive mind, theyre perfectly in sync and 100% focused on ruining your day

D&D Classes

so i offered to give someone a quick summary of the 5e dnd PHB classes, which i then read out to my friends, who then implored me to post it on tungle dot hell

so... here we go

being a barbarian is fun. you get an ability called “rage” which means u get super pissed and things can’t hurt you as much now. and all you have to do in a fight is run around and hit things! you don’t even have to wear armour. go into battle wearing only a cute skirt, footwear and a huge axe. go nuts. work off your aggression by playing A Barbarian today!

fighters tend to be more knightly than barbarians. this is mostly because they usually wear armour. they come in all flavours from “brilliant strategist” to “dumbass mercenary”. you can do whatever with a fighter, but your main job as a fighter is being the tank of the team!

rogues are, well, rogues. the sneaky stabby bastards of the group. the rogue gets a feature called sneak attack, which lets you unload unholy amounts of bonus damage when you have the drop on your enemy! if someone so much as breathes in your direction you fall over dead because you have few hitpoints and next to no armour, but it’s fine — they can’t hit you if you’ve already cut their throats while they were still drawing their swords. >:3c

monks are weird. like, imagine a dude, but his fists are lethal weapons. we’re thinking more bruce lee than medieval augustinian church man here. sometimes they’re really good at punching. sometimes they’re ninjas. you can go full naruto here if your heart desires! monks rule. they’re pretty squishy, but like, it’s worth it for the ability to hit someone three times in six seconds, yes?

rangers! picture aragorn from the lord of the rings. but like, maybe a bit more legolas. you probably have a bow. maybe even an animal companion. you can’t get lost in the forest, unlike the other dumbasses in your party, who are all fucking useless at surviving in the wild, in your opinion. you can attack a bit, heal a bit, cast a bit – and you get a free pass to play an introverted character.

PALADINS! :D my favourite class. don’t tell anyone, but yes, i have a favourite. and yes, it’s the paladin. you get the goodies of a fighter (high hitpoint maximum, heavy armour, any weapon you desire). and then also a god! your god is a little like your employer. or maybe even an annoying manager. or maybe your god doesnt talk to you at all and you’re just doing your best. fact is, because you believe in something really hard, you can do magic! it doesn’t have to be good. evil paladins are totally a thing. and you get healing skills! there’s nothing sexier than a group tank who doesn’t need a healer because they can heal their own damn self in the middle of battle. hell yeah.

bards? weirder than monks. bards can insult you so hard you take psychic damage. a bard can yell at a goblin “your mom suck me good & hard thru my jorts” and maybe the goblin will just straight up die. who let them have magical power? i don’t fucking know. but fuck, dude, they have it, and now there’s no stopping these weirdly charismatic drama club kids.

warlocks. you have a contract. a deal. a curse. a sugar daddy. basically, a demon, fiend, fey, eldritch monster or other powerful whatever went “hey you, i’ll give you some magical powers. blast plasma from your hands and mind control people or some shit.” and maybe you owe them your soul now, or have to follow orders, or something. but it’s really not that bad a deal... right?

clerics, here we go: you’re super magic. it’s because a god likes you. or you like a god? religion gives you magical abilities. clerics come in all flavours from “i will die if you so much as look at me mean” to “i am tankier than the barbarian, get fucked” but if your party’s cleric dies... you’re fucked.

Republicans register their fury as House holds historic first proxy vote

There are still 435 members of the House of Representatives a century later because of the;Permanent Apportionment Act of 1929, which set that number in stone.

The Permanent Apportionment Act of 1929 was the result of a battle between rural and urban areas of the United States following the 1920 Census. The formula for distributing seats in the House based on population favored “urbanized states” and penalized smaller rural states at the time, and Congress could not agree on a reapportionment plan.

“After the 1910 census, when the House grew from 391 members to 433 , the growth stopped. Thats because the 1920 census indicated that the majority of Americans were concentrating in cities, and nativists, worried about of the power of ‘foreigners,’ blocked efforts to give them more representatives,” wrote Dalton Conley, a professor of sociology, medicine and public policy at New York University, and Jacqueline Stevens, a professor of political science at Northwestern University.

So, instead, Congress passed the Permanent Apportionment Act of 1929 and sealed the number of House members at the level established after the 1910 census, 435.

Its Not All Bad News For Democrats

While it was unquestionably a good night for Republicans, Democrats still held onto most of the seats they won in 2018 and will continue to be the majority party in the House. Thats in part because they retained most of the suburban districts they picked up in 2018.

Of the 233 seats that Democrats held coming into the election,2 186 of them were in districts that were predominantly or partly suburban in nature, according to density categorizations by Bloombergs CityLab. Thus far, Democrats have lost seven of those seats, but they captured one GOP-held suburban seat around Atlanta. And thanks to redistricting, theyve also won two formerly Republican seats around Greensboro and Raleigh in North Carolina, which reflect the partys strength in more populous areas.

Because of their relative success in the suburbs, Democrats kept many seats in places President Trump won in 2016. Coming into the election, Democrats held 30 seats in districts Trump carried in 2016, and they wouldve lost their majority if theyd lost more than half of them . But theyve won 18 of them so far and picked up one from the GOP . In fact, more than half of Republicans gains have come in seats representing places that Trump won by a pretty sizable margin in 2016. Well have to wait a bit before data can tell us how congressional districts voted in 2020,3 but for now it seems many Republican gains were made by picking off the lowest-hanging fruit.

States are given the task of redrawing districts when;they gain;or lose;seats.;

Michael Li, senior counsel for the non-partisan Brennan Center for Justice’s Democracy Program,;said;the country could be poised for a battle over;gerrymandering, the practice of redrawing district lines to favor one party over the other or to suppress the vote of communities of color.

In some states, the process is fairer than others, he said, because they are not controlled by just one political party or they have instituted an independent redistricting committee, such as in Michigan. But for other states, the party in power stands to control the map.

Red Surge Democrats Stunned As Gop Gains House Seats Expected To Hold Control Of The Senate

More than a week after the election, a small number of House and Senate races are still undecided, but all signs are pointing to something like a red surge that few had predicted for Congress. Thats a shock because media pundits and Democrats had predicted a blue wave that never materialized. The Associated Press is reporting Democrats have been blindsided.;

As of Wednesday, Republicans appear to have secured 50 seats in the next Senate as theyre now expected to win in Alaska and North Carolina. Plus, they have a strong chance of winning two more in Senate runoff elections in Georgia in January. Democrats are believed to have won 48 Senate seats.;

And even though Democrats say theyve won the 218 seats needed for a majority in the House of Representatives, their margin of control is much smaller than it was before this election, and it could be razor-thin.;

Democrats went into the election with a 232-197 House advantage. There were also five open seats, plus one independent lawmaker. The AP says Republicans have won 202 seats so far. But there are more than a dozen races still undecided in states like California, Utah, and New York, and Republican candidates are currently leading in most of those races.

The Republican coalition is bigger, more diverse, more energetic than ever before, said House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy .

A slew of dismal summer polls and a persistent fundraising gap have left some Republicans fretting about a nightmare scenarioin November: Thatthey will fall further into the House minority.

Publicly, House GOP leaders are declaring they can still net the 17 seats needed to flip the chamber. But privately, some party strategists concede its a much grimmer picture, with as many as 20 Republican seats at risk of falling into Democratic hands.

Far from going on offense, the GOP could be forced to retrench in order to limit its losses.Theres a growing fear that President Donald Trumps plummeting popularity in the suburbs could threaten GOP candidates in traditionally favorable districts, and that their partys eagerness to go on offense might leave some underfunded incumbents and open GOP-held seats unprotected.

Internal Democratic surveys in recent weeks have shown tight races in once-solid GOPseats in Indiana, Texas, Michigan, Ohio and Montana that Trump carried handily 2016 data that suggest the battleground is veering in a dangerous direction for the GOP.

And should the environment worsen, other seats in North Carolina, Minnesota, Missouri, Washington state, central Virginia and Michigan could be at risk.

Gop Women Made Big Gains

While the majority of the Republican caucus will still be men come 2021, there will be far more Republican women in Congress than there were this year. So far, it looks like at least 26 GOP women will be in the House next year, surpassing the record of 25 from the 109th Congress. Thats thanks in part to the record number of non-incumbent Republican women 15 whove won House contests. And its also because of how well Republican women did in tight races. The table below shows the Republican women who ran in Democratic-held House districts that were at least potentially competitive,1 according to FiveThirtyEights forecast. As of this writing, seven of them have won.

Their thin majorities in both chambers of Congress mean nearly all Democrats have to get on board with every agenda item in order to push through major legislative priorities. And without adjusting or eliminating the legislative filibuster in the Senate, Democrats need 10 Republicans to join them for various legislation a near-impossible task.

The vulnerable first-term Democrats who Decision Desk HQ projects to lose reelection are Reps. TJ Cox, Gil Cisneros, and Harley Rouda of California, Reps. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell and Donna Shalala of Florida, Rep. Abby Finkenauer of Iowa, Rep. Xochitl Torres Small of New Mexico, Rep. Max Rose of New York, Rep. Kendra Horn of Oklahoma, Rep. Maybe the candidacies arent taken seriously because typically we dont get the Black vote. And sometimes we dont get the white vote, you know? So were kind of in a bit of a quagmire, Gore said, reflecting on her challenges to fundraise.

Klacik, a former Democrat who voted for Barack Obama, faces an incredibly steep climb in a reliably blue urban district, which includes parts of Baltimore. She is running against incumbent Democratic Rep. Kweisi Mfume, who was sworn in earlier this year after the death of Rep. Elijah Cummings in October 2019. Cummings held that seat since 1996.

I get called names all the time for being a Black Republican. Meanwhile, my whole push is to make it better in the Black community, Klacik said, criticizing Democratic politicians for a lack of investment in the inner cities.

Asked what advice she has for other Republicans of color who face similar backlash, Klacik urged them not to be discouraged.

People are always gonna either love you or hate you, she said. Youve got to fight for whats right.

The primary is our biggest place of hurt

Compared to an expansive network of Democratic organizations built over the last few decades to support female candidates, there are only a few Republican groups working specifically to boost the campaigns of Republican women.

Changes To House Rules

After Democrats took control of the House in the 116th Congress, they voted to change some rules from the previous session of Congress when Republicans were in control. Some of the changes appear below.

PAYGO: Democrats approved PAYGO, a provision that requires legislation that would increase the deficit to be offset by spending cuts or revenue increases.

Ethics: Democrats made changes to House ethics rules that required all House members to take ethics training, not just new members. The rules also required members to reimburse taxpayers for settlements that that result from a members discrimination of someone based on race, religion, sex, national origin, or disability, among other things. Lawmakers were also prohibited from sitting on corporate boards.

Climate change committee: Democrats created a new climate change committee to address the issue. The committee was not given subpoena power or the ability to bring bills to the floor.

Democrats hold the balance of power in Washington, D.C., but their margin is wafer-thin: Joe Biden is president, and the party controls both houses of Congress only very narrowly. Theyve already enacted $1.9 trillion of economic stimulus. Theyre haggling with Republicans over the size of a bipartisan infrastructure bill. The Democrats could wind up with the slimmest House majority in 20 years.

The Democrats will keep their majority in the House of Representatives, but after all the votes are counted, they could wind up with the slimmest House majority in 20 years.

The Democrats gained a majority in the House following the 2018 election in which they won 41 seats. This was the largest gain for the political party since the 1974 election, in which they gained 49.

Some of the popular freshman Democrats who came into office in 2018, including New Yorks Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Minnesotas Ilhan Omar, have been elected for a second term.

But Republicans appear set to make some gains, winning nearly every tossup and picking up at least six seats based on calls of races by The Associated Press.

House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy tweeted Wednesday morning, Republicans defied the odds and grew our party last night.

He also tweeted to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Youve been put on notice.

Among the Republican victories is , who won Georgias conservative 14th Congressional District after publicly supporting the fringe conspiracy theory known as QAnon.

In videos unearthed by POLITICO, Greene is also heard spouting racist, Islamophobic and sexist views.

Hurd was also one of just four House Republicans who voted for a resolution to condemn Trumps racist tweets last month attacking four freshman Democratic women of color. His positions and willingness to speak out against Trump made sense, given the political and demographic makeup of his district. The 23rd District is almost 70% Latino, and Hillary Clinton won it by about 3.5 percentage points in 2016. Last years midterm elections left Hurd as one of just three House Republicans to sit in a district carried by Clinton, not Trump.

But Hurd only barely survived in 2018 to win reelection by just 926 votes over Democrat Gina Ortiz Jones, an Air Force veteran who had already announced she was seeking a rematch in 2020. Without Hurd, who was seen by Republicans and Democrats alike as an unusually strong GOP incumbent, the Cook Political Report has moved its rating for this seat from Toss Up to Lean Democratic.

So, I was stoked to see the leaked photo of Matt Holt and Shiro. Shiro is alive, THANK GOD, because I don’t really want anyone else to pilot the black lion (I could maybe come around to Allura though...). He’s SPACE DAD. His family needs him. And Matt is alive! And he and Pidge are going to be so relieved to be together again. This is amazing. But if/when Shiro and Matt finally make it back to the castle, the ship dynamics will change, possibly a lot. 

And I think Lance is going to be most affected by this change, probably for the worse.

I mean, think about it... Lance tends to be the least favorite on the ship. No one’s best friend, never anyone’s first choice. And Matt’s going to board the ship, and everyone will get along with him extremely well, and Lance will be crushed that this guy who’s been on the ship for a matter of hours is already liked better than him. 

Shiro has already worked with Matt, they’ve dealt with trauma together, they’ve bonded. Shiro is  grateful to have his old friend back. Pidge, obviously, will be thrilled to see her brother again. Any attention she once allowed Lance is now focused on Matt instead. Hunk and Matt both strike me as very methodical, patient, and strategic. I think they’ll bond very easily. Keith probably won’t have strong feelings for him, but jeez, he’ll find Matt far more pleasant than “obnoxious” Lance. Coran will love this bright, scientific boy! How wonderful to have another ally on board. Matt will probably be very useful around the castle! And as for Allura...

Allura already adores Pidge and Shiro. And as soon as these two introduce Matt, she already knows she’ll get along with him splendidly. She includes him in battle planning. They share the information they’ve learned about the war and the status of other planets. They strategize to form new alliances. And one day over dinner, she makes a casual comment, not realizing its potential harm. 

“Matt, if we’d have found you sooner, you would have been a perfect fit for the Blue Lion. The Blue Paladin is known for being an excellent strategist, cool under pressure, and having incredible precision. With your skill set, you certainly fit the bill!”

Of course, Allura didn’t mean to insult Lance. And she’d never dream of replacing Lance at this point, not now that he and Blue were bonded. She didn’t even think Lance been paying attention. He and Keith had been bickering. But Lance heard her. He pretended he hadn’t and finished his meal in silence.

 But later that night, he couldn’t push the words out of his head. He couldn’t shake the feeling that she was right. Matt was better than him in every way. Matt had passed piloting exams and simulations so that he could go on the Kerberos Mission. After so much experience extracting ice samples, his precision was unmatched. Since escaping the Galra, he’d become an excellent fighter. Plus, he got along well with everyone on the team. It would be much easier for the paladins to form Voltron with Matt piloting Blue.

Worst of all, Blue loved him too. Shortly after arriving to the castle, Matt had asked to meet all of the lions. And upon seeing Matt, Blue lit up just like she did for Lance.

So Lance decides to leave. Matt will pilot Blue. Voltron will be stronger, and they’ll defeat the Galra sooner. Peace will be returned to the universe. Besides, maybe he’ll be able to find his way home. After all, that’s where he really wants to be—safe on earth with his family. A few days later, after looking over all the maps he could find and storing away enough food and water for a few weeks, he packs up his few belongings and makes his way to the escape pods. He passes through the silent halls of the castle unnoticed and makes his departure.

***and then he finds the mythical white lion most powerful of them all and becomes strong and independent and fights several battles on his own and then he encounters voltron again and theyre all impressed and grateful for lance and he gains confidence and then they save the universe***

like youd think w my “i hate to be passive and powerless in situations” id have my si as the summoner and not as a summoned hero but its actually much less passive in the latter

the summoner role is so passive and forced. theyre someone who was called into this world for the needs of others and are a little more than a gifted magical puppet for the main group. theyre literally only there bc they have the power to summon heroes. its kinda like the others call you a “strategist” to humor you, theres dozens of expert strategists among the summoned heroes. its kinda a role is forced onto you if you are the summoner, and thats how you have to be. not to even get started on the twins lusting after you.

whereas kasumi being a summoned hero allows for so much more freedom. what she does, what her role is, how she feels abt it and her personality- all of it is up to me, rather than stated by the game. she’s actually more free than if she were the summoner, ironically as a hero being under a direct contract. and i think it really shows- summoner ichihara is extremely miserable and struggles to even find anything worth living for, whereas kasumi, though frought w paranoia and trauma, is able to make friends and connections and find people that make her happy and vice versa.

from a writing/storytelling point of view it also works way better for kasumi to be a hero. as such, she actually has power and ability (as opposed to how the summoner is basically forcibly kept away from battle by the twins/order, and monitored by them in a creepy way). its a bit generic but it works well as a story element to have kasumi able to heal someone injured, making friends or meeting new people through actually being able to play a role in the story. (which is ironic bc a lot of ppl see healer characters as being “weak” or “passive” whereas the role is actually much more active than the summoner’s)

the heroes setting itself is also nice bc it lets kasumi interact w other games and their casts, allowing for more different points of views and worlds to explore without her directly being an integrated part of them. kasumi’s original role w the (three) 15 characters i liked was originally similar to this, but i decided to change her main interactions w them to heroesverse instead, since it kept the same general feel but also had a better setting. and after watching later games i feel like it works very well for them (tho i do have inserts for those games too- aeri, rosa, unnamed 4/5 insert)

and regarding the “powerless” i think kasumi’s role as a hero is the complete opposite of that. shes allowed to feel paranoid and anxious, and have a breakdown and have it be recognized as such. shes allowed to have that happen bc of the main trio, and have it acknowledged as such. if she was in the summoner role shed be stuck being arm candy for them, having everyone think she loved them bc of their words. which, this is a problem summoner ichihara faces, but around people as doubtful as kidzura he actually is able to get a bit of sympathy

I'd really love to hear your thoughts on this bit about Dex from Julius' SR2 tour in the old church: "After Alderman Hughes' assassination one of my Lieutenants, a strategist named Dex, accepted a job at Ultor and made it his first order of business to return this building into the icon it was in the 70s." Obviously it's heavily wreathed in the "benevolent Ultor" propaganda, but do you think Dex could have actually had a hand in it?

see my immediate thought is that its a way to sell the Ultor renovations and also sell Dex to the Stilwater public. it makes Ultor look good, because theyre doing this particular renovation as a personal favour to someone, not just arbitrarily as Evil Corp. theyre looking out for their workers, but more importantly, looking out for Stilwater natives. because Dex is a local, both of Stilwater and of the Row (presumably, i work on the assumption most of the original Saints bar Lin, Julius and Troy come from the Row), and if he wanted this, then it must be good. who would know whats better for the Stilwater than the poor boy done good?

and like i said, it also sells Dex. were he to seek the public eye, it sets a reputation for him as someone who protects his own, looks out for his old neighbourhood. and i think thats the kind of thing Dex would pick up on; like he knows (at the time he joined Ultor) that the Saints are finished. he needs to capitalise on public favour and having a record with the most violent gang in Stilwater history isnt always going to cut it. 

getting Ultor propaganda to paint him as someone who really cares for his city hopefully placates people who have any number of potential opinions on the Saints; people who think hes turned traitor, or that hes a dangerous criminal who should be in jail, for example, might both be convinced that hes still looking out for his own, or that hes reformed and genuinely wants to help improve the city, respectively.

something that sticks out to me is that Dex is head of security, and presumably wouldnt have a hand in building plans and projects at all normally, and wasnt really in a position to make demands of Ultor when they offered him a job; they were doing him a favour, not the other way round. so my thinking is that Ultor were going to fuckin do this shit anyway, like they wanted the nice “former glory, historical monument” element, and having Dex involved was a nice angle for them both. 

given that Dex sets the Masako on it to kill the Boss, im not convinced Dex fully cares all that much about the church; it seems to me like he wants to leave the Row behind. hes “moving on up” as Vogel puts it. like... Dex strikes me as someone whos pretty opportunistic (war profiteering my dude???) he definitely doesnt seem to me like someone whos particularly sentimental (or is deliberately trying to distance himself in order to seem unsentimental and professional). renovating the Church, staying in Stilwater... neither of those are particularly necessary to his future career, other than as a potential PR stunt. 

in 2 Dex is a lot like Julius in how scornful he is of the Saints; he thinks the Boss should have quit a long time ago, he thinks the gangs are “backwards”, hes critical and disillusioned with the Saints entirely. in all honesty, i dont think Dex ever bought into the great and wonderful Saints in the way Johnny or others did. it was a way for him to make money and get power. 

so i guess in conclusion: i feel like it was Ultor’s idea, and they came to Dex in order to utilise his image. he signed off on it/agreed to be involved because he thought it could help his public image. i dont think he gives enough of a shit about the Row or the Saints to do anything for them - although i think he might have gotten a kick out of the idea he was “winning” out over Julius and Playa by cleaning up their history.
