And that’s a wrap! Here are the Things I Know to be True from working on this play - the people are incredible, Carolyn is a little more insane than I thought but a fun spirit to be around, and working as the baby stage manager on this play has been a fun learning experience. I can’t wait to do more 🤗💕 #thingsiknowtobetrue #ellerslietheatre https://www.instagram.com/p/Bywcy-3gQFs/?igshid=s3thb9yjcdyi

Happy Coming Out Day. (Celebrating this with one of my backstage #ThingsIKnowToBeTrue looks - this is the one that I changed into right after my character comes out to her family, which was one of my favorite scenes to act, ever.) Coming out is a long, endless, sometimes excruciating process. It doesn’t happen just once - it happens every time you’re misgendered, every time someone assumes your orientation from what your partner looks like, every time you have to explain why you’re so angry and passionate about queer justice. Hopefully you find yourself in spaces where it’s not too painful. Sometimes it is. Sometimes it’s easier to just let it go, not correct people, because you’re scared of being “inappropriate” or “intense.” I first came out as pansexual when I was 14, but I knew from a much earlier age that I wasn’t straight, or cisgender for that matter. I’ve been out as various permutations of trans/genderqueer since I was about 18. Nowadays I identify as non-binary and genderqueer, bisexual, and lesbian/sapphic. I guess the only other thing to “come out” as is non-monogamous! Each of these terms denote a different aspect of my life, how I view the world, and how I love - and they’re important to me. I hope that in my visibility, I can be a role model and source of support for queer students who look up to me and other people who are finding themselves. ❤️ #comingoutday #queer #bisexual #lesbian #nonbinary #genderqueer #transmasculine #pride https://www.instagram.com/p/CjlMfstp4MS/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

I'm going to have a series of post with the tag #ThingsIKnowToBeTrue
It will be little tidbits Ito things I've learned in my life. Things to be true to me or my life. If you agree, let's chat. If you disagree, fuck off. It's my life not yours. #ThingsIKnowToBeTrue

THINGS I KNOW TO BE TRUE...about being a flight attendant
I've only been a flight attendant for a few months so here is my first list of things I know to be true...I'll add more as the time passes, enjoy! 1. Training, ground school, or whatever you call it...IS SUMMER SCHOOL ON CRACK 2. Post graduation you are shocked by how little of what you learned applies to your daily job 3. You quickly realize that reserve life is a roller coaster, the kind still made of really old wood that throw you around unexpectedly 4. The people who you've honored with your flight benefits will love you more, those without them will ask you for a discount not knowing at all what standby means 5. You don't have a job, you have a lifestyle...that only other flight attendants truly understand

We close “Things I Know To Be True” today. Frankly, I’m not ready. I could keep being a member of this family until the end of time. This is the longest run of a show I’ve ever done, and being able to digest and revisit this character gave me the invaluable opportunity to reflect and grow far more than I had in the past. This is an extraordinarily hard project to let go, but I will carry its gifts with me to my future career. To everyone - my wonderfully talented fellow actors, who have become a true family with me backstage and on stage, the inimitable @jessi_may_stevenson who made me feel like a million bucks with her initial offer of the role and is THE best director I’ve ever worked with, to our amazing crew who are the kindest people and support us every step of the way, to all the friends who have come out to see the show. Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you. I am so grateful. My cup is so full it’s overflowing. ❤️❤️❤️ #closing #thingsiknowtobetrue #santapaulatheatercenter #theatre #livetheatre #contemporarytheatre @sptheatercenter (at Santa Paula Theater Center) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cb5eijkJS_C/?utm_medium=tumblr

I meant to post this so much earlier, but I’ve still got a little bit of #transdayofvisibility left! This is the most important TDOV for me since coming out in college: tomorrow begins the final weekend of the West Coast premiere of Things I Know To Be True, which has been my first opportunity to play an openly trans character (spoiler alert!) and deal directly with a storyline about being trans. And the feedback I’ve been getting from audience members with close trans friends or family members has been overwhelmingly, gloriously impactful. I am so proud to tell this story, and through the run my only hope is that I did it justice. I believe I am the first AFAB actor to be cast in the role of Mark/Mia, but I’m not the first trans actor - that honor goes to @kevin_kantor, who was absolutely instrumental in bringing the truth of trans lives to the US rewrite of the original script. Thank you, Kevin; I am proud to follow in your footsteps. This backstage picture represents a highly vulnerable point in the show for me - my character has just come out, and is now navigating the process of stepping out of one world and into another, and I’ve spent a lot of time figuring out how to show that with my physical mannerisms, grooming choices, and speech patterns. This role has been so dynamic, such a wonderful challenge to figure out and put together, and has taught me so much about how to use my skills to portray a quickly-evolving person. TIKTBT is one of the only plays I’ve ever read that directly features a trans story, and maybe the only one where the character isn’t dehumanized through oversexualization. She’s just a person trying to make her way through life. We need more stories about the trans people in our lives. We’re just people, trying to live our truth, in as diverse a number of ways as anyone else. Happy #TDOV everyone. ❤️ (AND COME SEE OUR LAST WEEKEND AT @sptheatercenter!) #nonbinary #genderqueer #genderfluid #nonbinaryactor #thingsiknowtobetrue #contemporarytheatre #newtheatre #santapaulatheatrecenter (at Santa Paula Theater Center) https://www.instagram.com/p/CbzH6YfOLJb/?utm_medium=tumblr

My next show opens in two weekends! “Things I Know To Be True,” by Andrew Bovell - my first contemporary play and first time at the Santa Paula Theatre Center! Brilliantly directed by @jessi_may_stevenson (with poster and scenic art by her talented sister @amylynnstev) and featuring some of the best actors with whom I’ve ever shared the stage - this is not one to miss. I won’t give too many details about my character or their arc, but it’s been a fascinating process so far. And you have six weeks to see it - we open February 25 and run til April 3! Get tickets at the @sptheatercenter website! #santapaulatheatercenter #thingsiknowtobetrue #theatre #contemporarytheatre (at Santa Paula Theater Center) https://www.instagram.com/p/CZ8Qs-nLsx6/?utm_medium=tumblr

Love is work, and it’s not always 50/50. Some days I wake up and feel all I can give is 10%, so Talon comes up strong with 90%. Other days, he’s very busy and can only offer me 30%, that’s when I kick in hard to come up with the remaining 70%.
But there is always 100%.
