Day 001 - establishing
Alrighty! Yesterday was productive if I had to say the least, I am glad when I talk to someone who gets my ideas, so I'm involved in the backend along with databases and anything devOps and AI related. My teammate is a stallion!!! I'm so glad there's someone who makes up for my coding skills, its very weird still, I USED TO BE ABLE TO CODE FOR HOURS AND HOURS... okay I think mostly because I used to program for hours either with Java or C++, and bare bone Javascript, so maybe web development wasn't my strong suit.
But I'm good at understanding and making designs for code, so I'm very involved in seeing the bigger picture and he'll just do the painting. Here's a screen shot of how our backend looks like, so I'm brush it up since its a bit of mess right now
I'm using drawio because lucid just wasn't working for me, I kept running out of shapes, I'd say lucid is good when it comes to making final designs but drawio has that technical feel I like.
RabbitMQ is just so sexy oh my goodness, it allows for simple and fast communication between services. Its free tier is enough for what I need.
I want to learn PostgreSQL so bad, but I can't because we're on a time crunch and we'll just switch to MySQL for each service using an SQL database, since there's going to be data replication across these services, to maintain synchronized data across all services, RabbitMQ comes in the rescue. I hope it can handle, but since we'll starting off with a relatively small userbase, I doubt we'll run into problems, but if it happens we run into issues, I think switching to Kafka might be better since it has like faster reads (thanks to fewer systemcalls within its architecture)
Firestore is very useful and easy to setup, that reliability is useful for our messaging and posting of images, and also Firebase storage as well, that's so cool!!! I'm still working on the designs
I'm still working on the schemas using drawsql website, the reason for the SQL is because its easier to model friendships, invitations, requests, way better than a NoSQL solution, I want to see what Neo4j can do but again I'm trying to keep things simple. I'll also switch to drawio for doing the ER diagrams because drawSQL has limits and I'm a cheapskate
I made use of freesqldatabase.com for a temporary online database we can quickly use, but this limits the choices for ORMs, since we're using NodeJS we can't make use of Prisma since it requires permissions/privileges that the website doesn't offer, but I'm working on making use of google cloud's free e2 instances to host the database, and if that works we finally have our development database!
I still haven't talked to my client, I'd rather someone from frontend do it, I hope they can finally start working together because I can't with this leadership biz! I am reading this leadership guide book, hopefully I learn something.
I've been also looking at buying some light novels for either rezero or overlord, boy boy boy which do I get??? I honestly don't know, but I"ll figure it out later. I can't wait to go a pawn shop and see what cheap board games I can buy, I'm so excited! But that will be a while.
Well my goals today are simple:
Finalize the schemas for the SQL databases and deploy the databases (or I can be cheap and deploy one instance and host 2 databases :D running two docker containers that have mysql on the same e2 instance and then mapping their default 3306 ports to two ports on the instance and then connecting globally! That's so brilliant I'm so cheap HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!)
Draw up class diagrams for each service, making use of proper design patterns to make the code more neat
Have a meeting with my guy again and see where we go from there
Thanks again for reading my whatever this is, but its really fun hopefully I don't burn out from writing this much so early

I finally got all of my Crab Con orders!!! I haven't used anything yet bc I wanted to get a full pic of everything together.
Included most of the individual order pics as well, for close ups that are easier to see.
Pic 1 - full haul! Yes, I went overboard. I couldn't help it, we have an amazing seller group!
Pic 2 - EarthWaterFire Studio, Mary's store. Blue Mango is new, but everything else are reorders my crabs love. Plus some free samples! I couldn't add the pic, but I also got a couple beautiful dishes & some deer poop from her.
Pic 3 - Crab Cuisine Co, first time ordering! But I did win a free prize from her that the crabs loved. I got some cookies for enrichment toys, and some oils bc I need to get better at giving them more fat options in their diet. It's super important for molting! (Also, best free sticker)
Pic 4 - My Hungry Hermit, first time ordering. Got an awesome book that contains a ton of info on safe and unsafe foods, based on LHCOS's science-backed information. The shop owner is one of the people who have been helping with putting together a new database for the group! Also got burning bush leaves, bc crabs adore them for some reason, and a really cute mirror to add to their tank for enrichment.
Pic 5 - A Little Crabby Co-Op! Savanah is super sweet & did a really nice session on 3D printing during the Con. I'm finally gonna give my printer another try, with her help! This is why I love our seller group, everyone is super supportive. I got some "toe dipper" ramps for my pools, and shell opening measuring rings.
Pic 6 - South of the Ocean, first time ordering. They have some really neat foraged stuff, I hope some pheasant feathers & oak buds. Apparently their Better Than Leaf Litter is a huge hit with crabs too, so I'm excited to see what mine think. Also got a nice lichen heavy stick & some bunny poop!
Pic 7 - MT Pet Emporium, first time ordering. They have a lot of unique proteins and whole items that are great variety for enrichment. I'm excited to get one of the fish heads into my tank. 😂 The barnacles are bigger than I expected too, I haven't decided whether to put them on the sand or in my salt pool.
Pic 8 - BioactiveFX, one of my favorite stores!! Courtney has a degree in animal nutrition & is doing a lot of work to get proper foods available in multiple places for people to have access to. She really wants to get them into pet stores too someday. She also sells fantastic cholla & cork bark. I have a bunch of cork but got a flat with a bunch of lichens for my crabs to nibble on. Also got some moss, lichens, lotus seed pods (the enrichment possibilities!!!!), and stocked up on a bunch of dunaliella salina, an orange algae that my crabs think is the Best Thing Ever. Doesn't matter how big the pile is, it's gone in the morning. Also important to mention wild burro poop, which is new. Yes, I bought a lot of poop, okay, Hagrid is gross & loves it. 😂😂
Pic 9 - Just 2 Old Crabs, another favorite food shop! She cooks and dries all the stinky stuff so we don't have to! 😂 I already have a ton of her food and the crabs devour it. Excited to have a bunch of fresh stuff for them! I've been feeding a ton of last year's food to finish it up so I can set up all the fresh stuff I got this year. They're gonna eat so well!
Pic 10 - First time ordering from Hermit Grub, their foods look gorgeous! Excited to see what my crabs think. They have a VERY well stocked pantry now.
Not shown individually (pic limit) - Coenobita Curiosities, they sell the original curiosity cubes! There's multiple shops on etsy that have taken the idea from them, so make sure you buy from the right shop. They send their cubes out with delicious popcorn to use in them, a sure way to get your crabs checking out their new toy. I got a bridge as well, for my beach topper.
Not shown individually - I also got some Java moss & duckweed from Josh's Frogs, along with a couple bromeliads & a couple spider plants to try in the tank. I need to get them taken care of today, they're still waiting... 😬
#hermit crabs#hermit crab enrichment#hermit crab food#crab con 2022#fbw rambles#my pets#lord of the crabbies#lhcos approved sellers#please check out all the shops!!#they're all really wonderful#and have lots of stuff that would be good for other animals too

COLSON BAKER x READER - OCEAN EYES IV

BRIAN, JIMI, JANIS, KURT, AND. . .COLSON?
"Can we get two 16oz house drips, one black with two sugars and the other with two sugars and a splash of cream?" He ordered, remembering exactly how you took your coffee, even after all the time you'd been separated. It made you smile, knowing that you still occupied some space in his mind.
"So this is your coffee shop?" You asked, leaning against the side of the counter as you waited for your drinks.
"Yeah, I opened it last year. It turned out pretty cool." He smiled as he looked around the room. You could tell he was proud of it.
"It's badass" You agreed with him.
"If you're hungry, we serve brunch." Colson handed you a menu to peruse. "This is actually why I was at the farmers market. All of our fruits and vegetables are local." You looked over the list of food, noticing all of the fresh ingredients.
"That's so cool. Everything sounds delicious." You said, flipping the menu over to continue exploring. On the opposite side, you found a cocktail menu. Some of the drink names made you chuckle. There was 'the gunner,' 'sex, dope, and cheap thrills,' 'screw me' with its counterpart, 'screw you,' and the 'you know I'm no good.' Without even seeing the ingredients, you immediately thought that the last one sounded like a drink you'd choose.
Colson exchanged the menu in your hands with a coffee cup filled with hot coffee. You looked at him and gave him a weak thank you smile which he inadvertently returned, and just like that, you were taken back to the first morning you had ever spent together.
You woke up randomly as the sun was shining through the tiny window of your dorm room. You were still wearing the same clothes from the night before. It confused you because you hadn't even remembered falling asleep. The last thing you could recollect was laying with Colson in your XL twin bed, which he noted multiple times was fantastic because his tall, lanky ass fit perfectly.
"Good morning," Colson whispered. It took you a moment to fully wake up, but you noticed how your bodies were intertwined when you did. Your head was on his chest, and his arm was holding you close to him. It was cozy.
"Good morning." You repeated, squeezing him and nuzzling your face into his neck. "How long have you been awake?" You asked sleepily, afraid that you were the only one who had dozed off.
You and Colson had agreed to stay up as long as you could talking to each other. After all, it was the first time you had seen each other since Atlanta, and even though you had basically talked every day for the last 3 months, you still had a lot to talk about.
"Not long, maybe like fifteen.. . twenty minutes" He shrugged. "I didn't want to wake you. I just wanted to lay here and hold you a little longer, watch you sleep, smell your hair." He squeezed you, placing a small kiss on the top of your head. "I wanted to memorize all of it because this weekend will be over before we know it, and then It'll be back to facetime calls and falling asleep on the phone."
"Blahhh, don't remind me." You pouted, sitting up to face him. You enjoyed every single second you got to spend with that blue-eyed boy in your bed, and you never wanted it to end. He had quickly become your best friend, your person.
"Sorry. Y'know, you're fucking cute when you're sleepy" Colson smiled at you, no makeup and hair a mess. To him, you were perfection. "Oh, I ordered coffee." He said excitedly as he sat up, reaching for the cups on the table next to your bed. "Remind me to thank your roommate later. She was not very happy when she was woken up by the Doordash driver." He chuckled.
"She'll get over it" You took the warm cup from him, sipping slowly. Careful not to burn your mouth. You immediately spit the coffee back into the cup, scrunching your nose up at the taste. The coffee was sweeter than a glazed chocolate donut filled with thousands of tiny sprinkles. You thoroughly enjoyed coffee, and you liked to be able to taste the flavor in every sip.
"Shit, did I get it wrong?" He asked worriedly. It was one of the topics you had discussed last night, and he had already forgotten.
"Yeah, but we've never had coffee together, so I'll give you a free pass." You joked. "Two sugars and a splash of cream," you reminded him with a small smile.
"I swear I will never forget again." He promised, passing you his coffee to share.
"Let's sit back here" Colson's voice pulled you from your memory. As you followed him to the back of the coffee shop, you noticed photos of different famous musicians on each table.
"What's with the pictures?" You asked, gesturing towards a table with Kurt Cobains' face on it.
"They're all a part of the 27 club." He could tell by the expression on your face that you had no idea what that meant. "a bunch of artists and entertainers that died at the age of 27." Colson explained.
"Oh." you gasped, finally understanding the name of his coffee shop.
Colson led you to a table in the back corner. It was secluded enough to offer a little privacy from the rest of the customers. You took a seat, instantly noticing the photo that was on your table. It was him. Your narrowed eyes and knitted brows caught his attention, and he followed your gaze to determine the look of confusion on your face.
"You're 31." You stated the obvious.
"Yes, but most days I feel like my life ended when I was 27." He let out a small chuckle.
You took a sip of your coffee, waiting for Colson to elaborate further. Quickly getting distracted by the liquid in your cup. When the coffee first hit your tongue, you could taste a combination of floral and fruity notes, but as you swallowed, you noticed a nutty caramel tone. It was unique and unlike any other coffee, you had ever tried.
"Mmm," You hummed quietly, approving of the noteworthy java in your hand. "You remembered how I like my coffee." You said without thinking.
You regretted it almost instantly. You didn't want to discuss your past relationship or talk to Colson like old friends. You just wanted the explanation you deserved so you could be on your way. It wasn't necessary to spend any more time with him than need be. You didn't want to conjure up old feelings any more than you already had by being in this stupid city.
"I said I would never forget, didn't I?" He looked at you like you made the whole world spin, and for a moment, it was like time stood still.
"God. I'm so stupid." His words came out as a whisper as he looked away from you. Shame and guilt wallpapered his face. "I made the biggest mistake of my life by losing you, and it's something I'm never going to forgive myself for."
"Why'd you leave Colson?" You were blunt, and your words were shaky.
"Because y/n, you deserved better." He paused, collecting his thoughts before continuing. "I was laying there with you in my arms that morning thinking to myself, 'how can I possibly love this amazing woman the way she deserves to be loved when I don't even like who I am."
The sadness in his voice was evident, and you could clearly see the pain in his glossy blue eyes. He hurt himself just as much as he had hurt you.
"I was the biggest fuck up on the planet. You sacrificed your happiness to be with me, to support my dreams, and be my biggest fan. . .I was selfish, and I took you for granted. I broke your heart, and somehow you still managed to see the best in me. It wasn't fair to you. -- Y/n, I had to go because I knew that staying would have been even more painful for you. I was a sinking ship that was burning, and I couldn't bear to be the reason you went down in flames too." A silent tear slid down his cheek.
You sat there speechless as you listened to the explanation you had waited years to hear. You hadn't even realized it, but at some point, you had started tearing up too. Colson reached over, wiping the tears from your face.
"I hate myself for fucking things up with you." He said, staring at you.
You didn't know what it was about him, but when you looked into those blue eyes, you saw a reflection of your soul staring back at you. He was your person, always had been, and always would be. You and Colson had a once-in-a-lifetime connection. The kind of connection that made you feel alive by just being near him, even the silence between you, was comfortable because you felt complete in each other's presence.
"You are worth so much more than second thoughts and maybes'. I am so sorry y/n" You could feel the emotion in Colson's words. His apology was like rain on a dehydrated garden. Grossly overdue, but miraculously just in time.
You sat in silence for a few moments before speaking. "Earlier, when you said you lost your life at 27, what did you mean?" You questioned.
"Y'know, everyone thought I was overreacting after our breakup. . ." He started. You had no idea where he was going with his response, but you let him continue." what they didn't get was how much of my life you really were. . .You were more than just another relationship down the drain. You were my past, my present, and my future. Y/n, you were my life."
At that moment, you understood why his photo sat on a table in that coffee shop. He was a part of the 27 club, not because he physically perished at 27, but because that was when he lost the only thing that ever made him feel alive, you.

deck the halls pt. 4

A/N: I’m sorry this took so long, but some crazy stuff has been going on in my life and with work, so I’ve been all over this place! But here is part four finally. I think I should have two or three more parts to post before this is over. Please enjoy and let me know what you think :)
Word Count: 8.2k
Warnings: Mentions of smut, dying, the usual, alcohol, etc.
November 14 Holly’s POV
“I guess paradise isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, huh?”
Holland twirled around, but the sound of the ice cracking under her feet made her her freeze in her place, causing her to stand as still as a statue so she wouldn’t fall through. Jack Frost’s voice was too close, almost like he was whispering in her ear. He was nowhere to be seen as she stood on the ice, terrified of the outcome. Harry wasn’t in the clearing this time, he wasn’t there to remind her that this was just a dream. Her cheeks were burning cold from her tears and the icy wind.
She sniffled, wiping under her frozen nose with the sleeve of her coat.
“Your soulmate is bitter, isn’t he?” Jack’s voice caused her to close her eyes, holding in a fresh wave of tears brought on by fear. “He doesn’t love you like you love him, does he Holland? He’s not capable of such emotion. He’s a broken boy-”
“Stop talking about him.” Holland cried out, lifting her hands to her face. “Please, Jack, just stop this.”
“I can’t.” His hands clamped down on her shoulders as the ice started to crack under her feet. “I need to be in control, Holland. I have to do it for my father.”
“Your father?”
Holland’s breath was gone from her lungs in seconds, replaced with ice cold water.
She closed her eyes, letting her body sink into the water.
Fighting was painful, but giving into fate brought her peace.
As she sunk lower in the frozen water, green eyes were all she could see.
❄️❄️❄️❄️
Harry’s POV
Harry pulled his door shut, sliding his key into the lock as he held his breath.
He felt his shoulder tense up at the sound of a door opening behind him, a new wave of tears welling up in his already swollen eyes. He turned the lock, hiking his leather bag up on his shoulder as he turned around. He expected to see Holland standing in her doorway, wearing some ridiculous set of Christmas themed pajamas with a Santa filled mug of hot chocolate in her hands.
Instead, he was met with the Christmas wreath she made. It was adorned with little trinkets she picked up around town, London landmarks were nestled into the bed of green that matched the shade of her sparkling eyes. Harry inhaled sharply, lifting his hand up to wipe at the tears under his eyes before he turned on his heel and stormed down the hallway, still ashamed of his childish actions.
It had been a few hours since he fucked up, since he’d pushed her away to protect himself (and her) from the war raging in his mind. He wanted to tell her everything going through his head, but he just couldn’t. The words he wanted to say were pushed into his chest while he lashed out at the one person he adored the most in this world. He knew that he’d never have the courage to tell her exactly how he felt about Christmas, and why he hated it.
Harry could see that she was already carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders, even if she hid it behind a smile and Christmas cheer. She was busy trying to find her way in a strange new world while also trying to fight for her life. He didn’t want to add his problems to the long list of things she was already dealing with. He hadn’t really thought about it, but Holland was stuck figuring out the Jack Frost situation all on her own. And though there were things that he didn’t understand about her world, he still wanted to be here for her.
But right now, he was making things worse for her.
He was always making things worse.
As he stepped onto the lift, he felt a new wave of tears cascading down his cheeks. His knees were weak, wobbling like sliced cranberry jelly with each floor the lift descended. When the doors opened, he all but sprinted through the lobby and out onto the sidewalk. He gasped, taking in the crisp, fresh air as he wiped at his cheeks. People stared at him as he stood there, trying to pull himself together, but he couldn’t care less about their judgemental glances or their bitter frowns. He was hurting, and for once in his life, he wasn’t trying to hide it from anyone.
As he walked down the sidewalk, he tried to focus on the sounds of the city bustling around him to distract his negative thoughts. He was done wallowing in his own sadness, moping around in attempts to avoid his problems rather than solve them. He desperately wanted to make things right between himself and Holland so they could move forward together. He wasn’t afraid to admit that maybe they both needed help to get through this thing with Frost.
But before he could make things right with Holland, he had a few things to take care of.
☕️☕️☕️☕️
Sarah’s POV
Sarah flipped to the next page of Dash and Lily’s Book of Dares with eager fingers.
Her heart was racing in her chest as she read over the words in the cheesy novel that Holland picked up for her just a few days ago. They both agreed to read the book before meeting up to chat about it. It was a cute little book club with only two people, but Sarah loved it. She loved Holland just as much, and she even considered her to be her best friend.
Since Holland showed up in Java Java, things in Sarah’s life started to improve. She was practicing more self care after stressful shifts at the cafe, and she’d even started to meditate before bed. Her relationship with her Mother was improving, slowly but surely, and they even had plans to meet for tea in just two days time.
But most importantly, without Holland, there would be no Sarah and Mitch.
Sarah felt her heart swell as her eyes drifted from the page.
Holland gave Sarah the final push she needed to finally ask Mitch out on a date. It was something that she never thought she’d get the guts to do, but thanks to Holland, she went into Paradise Records with a peppermint mocha and a confident disposition. Mitch almost seemed stunned by Sarah’s gall, but by the end of her long winded speech about her feelings, he was smiling up at her like she hung the bloody moon in the sky.
Without Holland, that would have never happened.
Sarah picked up reading where she left off, her eyes drifting over the page.
Just as she made it to the end of a paragraph, the bell above the cafe door rang out.
She sighed, stuffing an old receipt between the pages before she looked towards the door with an obnoxiously fake smile. It fell the second she laid eyes on Harry Styles walking towards her counter. Sarah rolled her lips in, taking a deep breath in attempts to compose herself. She feared that if she didn’t compose herself, Harry would end up with a Christmas stirrer in his ear.
“Sorry sir, but we’re allowed to refuse service to dickheads that break people’s hearts.” Sarah plastered on her fake smile, reaching for her book as Harry stopped in front of her. “Goodbye.”
“I know I’ve been a dickhead, Sarah.” Harry’s voice cracked as he lifted his hand to scratch at his jaw nervously. “But I’m trying to do the right thing.”
“You’ve been a dickhead for a lot longer than you realize.” She let out a heavy sigh. “And we’ve all put up with it because we know that you’re still hurting, Harry, but Holland didn’t deserve to be pushed away and shouted at because you’re scared of your feelings.”
“I know that.” He said softly, his red-rimmed eyes glazing over. “But I’m trying to be better for her. She’s made me realize a lot of things since she’s shown up in my life, but the number one thing that she’s made me realize is that I stopped living when my parents died.”
Sarah didn’t know what to say to that.
It was true, but it made her heart ache hearing it aloud.
She loved Harry like a brother, and she just wanted him to be happy.
“We just want you to be happy, Harry.” Sarah said softly. “We don’t expect some wild, overnight transformation, but we do want to see you smile from time to time.”
“I smile.” He let out a wet chuckle, reaching up to wipe at a few stray tears. “I just wanted to say that I’m really sorry for pushing you out, Sarah. I know you’ve tried to cheer me up over the years, especially around the holidays, and I just want you to know that I see that. I appreciate you as a person, and I’m so lucky to have you as a friend.”
Sarah felt a burning sensation behind her eyes, and seconds later her vision went blurry.
“Thank you.” She said softly. “I just want you to be okay, H. I need my friend to be okay, and I need you to realize that you’re not alone. I’m here for you, always.”
“I see that now.” Harry wiped at his cheeks. “I love you, Sarah Jones.”
“And I love you, Harry Styles.” She chuckled, shaking her head before she leaned across the counter with her arms out. “Give me a hug.”
🍵🍵🍵🍵 Mitch’s POV
As Mitch dipped the small satchel of green tea into his steaming water, he thought about Sarah’s shampoo. If he remembered correctly, it was green tea and jasmine. He cracked a smile at the thought of her hair tickling his nose as they curled up on the couch. She left his flat about three hours ago for her shift at Java Java and he was already aching to have her in his arms again. Sarah Jones was the love of his life, and he was not afraid to admit it anymore.
The day that she stormed into the shop with a peppermint mocha in her hand and a wild look in her eyes, he knew that she was the one. He sat behind the counter on his stool with his guitar in his lap as she spewed out every single feeling she had about him. He smiled at her while she ranted, practically slamming the peppermint mocha down so that she could talk with her hands.
He loved that about her.
He loved everything about her.
As he twirled the tea bag around his finger, a knock sounded at his door.
Sarah was still at work, and Niall was at the record shop... so who could be knocking at his door.
He walked towards the bright yellow door tentatively, not bothering to peek through the peephole before opening it up. He felt his eyebrows lift dramatically at the sight of a distraught Harry standing there with his hands stuffed in his pockets and blotchy red cheeks. Mitch almost didn’t know what to say to Harry as he stood on the other side of the threshold. He had never seen the man before him cry, not even when he was at his lowest point in life.
Mitch moved aside, holding his arm out without a word.
Harry walked in, sniffling as Mitch shut the door.
“You okay?” Mitch asked. “Can I make you some tea?”
“I don’t need tea, but thank you.” Harry made his way to the thrifted couch that Mitch bought with Niall a few years ago. “You’re with Sarah?”
“Um, yeah.” Mitch crossed his arms over his chest as he walked towards the couch. “Is that why you’re crying?”
“No, I’m crying because I’m a shit friend and a huge fucking prick.” Harry let out a wet chuckle, leaning back into the couch as Mitch watched him. “I don’t pay attention to anything but myself, do I?”
“Not really, no.” Mitch sat down next to him. “But...that’s just you.”
“But it isn’t.” Harry raked his fingers through his hair, gripping at the roots as he dropped his elbows to his knees. “I’m not this guy, Mitch. I can’t be this kind of guy. Holland has joked about it before, but she’s right....I’m literally Scrooge.”
“Harry-”
“You never told me that you were serious about making music.” Harry lifted his head, slapping his palms against his thighs. “But I never fucking asked you about that. I never ask about any of your lives because I just assume that you’re all happy, all the time.”
“Not always.” Mitch sighed. “Harry, don’t beat yourself up about it, okay? The last three years have been really hard on you, and you can’t expect to be who you were before.”
“I don’t know who I am at all.” Harry whispered. “But I know I’m nowhere near the man I want to be.”
“First step is admitting you have a problem.” Mitch cracked a smile, causing Harry to bark out a watery laugh. “I’m glad that you’re doing... whatever this is.”
“I’m so fucking sorry if I’ve ever hurt you.” Harry said. “You always listen to every problem that I have, but I never ask about the shit you’re going through. I’m sorry for being such a self centered prick, and I promise that things are going to change going forward. I’m here for you, Mitch.”
“That means a lot.” Mitch squeezed Harry’s shoulder before patting it. “I’m really proud of you, and I’m so happy that you’re finding yourself.”
“It’s all because of Holland.” Harry rolled his eyes fondly, wiping under his eyes. “I owe her so much.”
“Right now, I hear you owe her an apology.” Mitch pulled his hand back, trying not to snort out a laugh as Harry groaned. “Have you seen her?”
“Not since this morning.” Harry blew out a breath. “I went to Java Java, hoping that she would be there, but I spent the last two hours crying to Sarah instead.”
“She received a very interesting phone call from Holland after your fight.” Mitch said. “I hope you’ve got something big planned for her.”
“I do.” Harry smiled, rubbing his palms together. “But I have a few more stops to make first.”

Niall’s POV
Niall’s day was pure shit.
From the moment he opened his eyes, he knew that his entire day would be thrown off due to the absence of Gemma in his bed. It was unusual for them to spend nights apart at this point in their relationship, and Niall didn’t like sleeping without her and Noah under the same roof. He considered them both to be his little family, and he wanted to protect them always.
But Gemma insisted that he go back to his own flat for the night when Noah started acting fussier than usual. Niall insisted that he could handle it alongside her, as a team, but Gemma merely told him that she would call him later. He never received a call from her, and he spent his entire night tossing in turning in bed waiting to hear from her.
Being proud and stubborn was a well known, Styles family trait, and Niall hated it so much at times. He already had Harry pushing him away. He didn’t need to add Gemma to the list of people he was losing. He loved her, and he loved Noah with all of his heart. Being away from them hurt just as much as being away from his family back home in Ireland.
Despite a restless night’s sleep, Niall still had to open up Paradise Records.
He was running on no sleep, no caffeine, and no hope for his relationship with Gemma. He was lucky that the shop seemed to be slow today. Niall wasn’t usually one to snap at people, but he had his moments. He was currently grumbling at the rickety old cash register that refused to shut after a purchase. He’d told Harry time and time again that they needed a newer one, but Harry liked the vintage vibe that the old register gave off.
Niall slammed the drawer with a series of curses spoken in a language he rarely used. He let out a shaky sigh when it finally settled flush with the register, his chin wobbling and his eyes filling with tears. He hated the uncertainty lingering in the air, and he knew that he needed to confront Gemma about it. The only problem was, he didn’t want to lose her after.
“What did Ricky ever do to you?”
Niall snapped his head up with his brows pulled down.
“What are you doing here?” Niall brushed the back of his hand under his nose as Harry shifted awkwardly. “Shouldn’t you be with your new girlfriend?”
“No.” Harry cleared his throat, stuffing his hands into his jacket pockets. “We got into a fight this morning, and I was a proper idiot.”
“What’s new there?” Niall scoffed, shaking his head. “What do you want, Harry?”
“Are you alright?” Harry asked, moving closer to the counter.
“No, I’m not.” Niall said. “But I don’t want to waste my breath talking to you about it, Harry. I’m done fighting so hard with you two. I’m not getting anywhere, and it’s clear that I’m not wanted-”
“Woah, hold on.” Harry said. “What are you on about, Niall? I love having you around, and I’m happy that you’re with Gemma. I know that...I might have teased at the beginning, but I told Gemma that I was happy for you both.”
“Well, it might have been nice to hear it from you.” Niall snapped. “And it might be nice if your sister would stop pushing me away every time something goes wrong. I’m not some daft kid, Harry. I know how to take care of them both, but she won’t let me.”
“Niall, I don’t want to step into the middle of something, but I promise you that Gemma is trying with you.” Harry’s face fell. “They do need you Niall. You’re the zen in her chaotic world, and it would kill her if you left.”
“I’m not leaving, she’s pushing me out.” Niall whispered, his voice cracking. “Noah was having a full blown tantrum last night and she just told me to go. I know that I’m not his father, but I love that boy more than I love anything in this world. It kills me to see him like that, and it kills me to see her so out of sorts.”
“She’s a proud woman, Niall.” Harry inhaled sharply, biting at his bottom lip. “She’s been doing this on her own for a while, and it’s hard to let people into that little bubble that you create to protect your heart. I know it isn’t fair, but she’s trying harder than I’ve ever tried.”
Niall looked at his best mate, watching the rims of his green eyes turn red. The first few tears fell as Harry’s chin wobbled, and he ducked his head down with a soft sniffle as Niall stood on the other side of the counter, bewildered by the actions of the usually austere man.
“Mate?” Niall said.
“I’m sorry I’ve been such a shit friend to you Niall.” Harry cried out. “I’ve been so unfair to you for so long, and you deserve so much more than me as your friend.”
Niall felt a new wave of tears blurring his vision as he watched Harry’s shoulders shake. He moved from behind the counter, wrapping Harry in a tight hug as he sobbed into his shoulder. It was strange, but Niall hugged him tighter, brushing his palm over Harry’s back as his frame shook violently. Niall felt a few tears fall from his own eyes and onto Harry’s coat as they stood there together. He wasn’t sure what to do with Harry when he was like this, but he figured holding him seemed to be enough by the way Harry clung to his shirt.
“I’m sorry.” Harry croaked out, lifting his head up to wipe at his messy face. “I’m sorry for all of it Niall. I’m sorry for pushing you away, and I’m sorry for making you feel like you weren’t welcome in our family. If anyone is a part of our little family, it’s you.”
“Harry-”
“And I can’t promise that things are going to go back to normal right away, but I swear that I’m going to try harder.” Harry hiccuped. “We’ll have family dinner, and we’ll go on holiday together when we can. I swear that I want to be better for you all, because you’ve been keeping me afloat for so long and you deserve more from me.”
“Harry, just take a deep breath.” Niall said. “It’s going to be fine.”
“I can’t lose all of you.” Harry sniffled. “I need you in my life, I know that now.”
“You won’t lose us.” Niall said. “I’m not going anywhere.”
“You promise?” Harry asked, taking in a shaky breath as Niall nodded.
“Yeah, I promise on me Mum.” He said. “I love you, mate. I think of you as a brother, you know that.”
“I think of you that way to.” Harry cracked a tiny smile. “Do you forgive me?”
“You didn’t do anything wrong.” Niall sighed. “You’ve been a little grumpy, but no one expected you to be the same person you were before they died. You’ve just been trying to find out how to live in a world without them, and I’ve never been upset with you for that.”
“Thank you.” Harry nodded before glancing around the shop. “Slow day?”
“Dreadful.” Niall groaned. “I’ve cleaned the whole fucking store-”
“Lock up and go.” Harry said. “We’re just wasting electricity.”
“Are you sure?” Niall asked, his brows lifting up.
“Positive.” Harry chuckled. “Go find Gemma, and tell her that I said she needs to stop being so thick headed. She’s lucky to have someone like you around.”
“Thanks, mate.” Niall patted Harry’s arm. “Where’s Holland at?”
“I don’t know, but I’m about to head back home.” Harry said. “I figured making her a nice dinner and sitting her down for a proper talk is in order, so I’ve got a few errands to run first.”
“She still hasn’t tried pizza.” Niall pointed out. “Maybe make her one of those homemade ones that you used to do when we lived over in Camden.”
“I can’t believe you remembered that.” Harry laughed, the sound almost sending Niall into cardiac arrest. “We had good times in that flat.”
“Yeah, we did.” Niall smiled. “But I have a feeling better times are ahead.”
“Me too.”

Holland’s POV
Holland couldn’t help but remember the words Harry told her the night they met.
“Just do me a favor, and don’t go near any lakes.”
Technically, this wasn’t a lake.
She let her skates glide over the ice, as she glided along the man made ice rink that was in the middle of Holland Park.
In the North Pole, she used to skate every single morning. She never went to the lake after her dreams started, but she did go to the rink her father had installed in the town square. There was always a crowd, and there was no danger of her sinking into an icy current at the rink. She missed skating, and part of her wished that she could bring Harry here. She couldn’t imagine him wobbling around in ice skates, cursing every time he almost fell to the ground.
He would be a little sour about it, but she would love to see him at least try it out for her sake. She tried not to think about him after their fight, but it seemed that she just couldn’t keep her mind from wandering off to thoughts of him. He was everywhere from the bitter cold wind to the scent of gingerbread in the air. She even saw a baby that almost looked like Noah, which led to her thinking about Harry lifting the toddler in the air, causing him to squeal out his uncle’s name between fits of laughter.
She missed him.
“Miss?”
A voice pulled her from her thoughts, causing her to stop on her skates before she turned her head. An older gentleman stood at the edge of the rink with a broom, his coat tight around his broad shoulders. She looked around the rink, her heart sinking in her chest when she realized that she was all alone. There was no one else around the rink either.
“Yes?” She asked, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear.
“We’re closing.” He said. “I need to sweep the rink.”
Holland let out a breath of relief, nodding her head.
“I’m so sorry.” She skated closer to the edge of the rink, making her way towards the exit. “I hope I haven’t held you up.”
“It’s quite alright.” The man walked out further onto the ice, his broom sweeping over the rink. “I don’t have anyone to go home to, so what does it matter?”
“You don’t even have pets?” She asked, holding onto the railing as she stepped down carefully. “I suggest getting a pet, they’re wonderful company.”
“I’m allergic.”
His annoyed mumbling reminded her of Harry.
“Thank you for letting me stay a little longer, I hope you have a wonderful holiday season.” She smiled back at the man. “Merry Christmas.”
“Same to you.” He went about his sweeping, ignoring Holland as she sat on a bench just around the edge of the skating rink.
She stripped the borrowed skates from her feet, dropping them in the return bin after zipping her winter boots up. She adjusted her beanie on her head, reaching for her bag before she started walking. With every step she took away from the ice rink, the darker it became. She didn’t realize that she had stayed so late, and an anxious feeling settled in her chest.
The dark always scared her.
Holland tried not to let it get the better of her, crossing her arms over her chest before she picked up her pace. She followed the path lined with trees, keeping her eyes down to avoid seeing shadows in the dark. It would only cause her to panic more, and she would end up freaking herself out over something that probably wasn’t even there.
As she continued to walk down the pathway, she realized that she was going in a different direction than when she started. She looked up, her eyes squinting as she tried to make out the large blob in the corner of the park. When she realized that it was in fact a small pond, her blood ran cold in her veins. She was stuck in her place, frozen with fear.
“I should have listened.” She whispered aloud, aware that no one was there to listen. “I’m sorry, Harry.”
Her heart started to beat faster in her chest as she turned around, ready to dart off in another direction. She was stopped, however, by a solid body pressing into hers. Holland let out a scream, falling backwards onto her ass as the body loomed over her. She couldn’t see a face, but she could tell that it was a man by the broad build of his shoulders.
“You shouldn’t be here.” The man hissed out, reaching down to pull Holland up by her coat. “It’s dangerous to be in the park after sundown, don’t you know that?”
“I didn’t know.” She whimpered, clenching her eyes shut. “I’m lost.”
“Anyone could see that, you daft girl.” He growled, pulling her closer. “Do you want to get mugged?”
“Not really.” She slowly opened her eyes, looking at the man in front of her. “I just don’t know how to get out of this park.”
“I’ll walk you out.” He grumbled, his voice husky and gruff. “Bloody naive little brat.”
He released her coat, turning on his heel before he started to move swiftly.
Holland could hardly keep up with him, but she did her best.
She tried not to pay attention to the groups of people loitering in the field, staring at her as she walked by with the stranger. She didn’t remember seeing any of them on her walk towards the back half of the park, but then again, she wasn’t really looking. As the man started walking her past more familiar territory, Holland felt her shoulders start to relax ever so slightly.
When they approached the gate at the front, the man turned around.
“Don’t ever stay in the park after the sun goes down again, do you hear me?” He snapped. “It's a surefire way to get yourself into a lot of trouble, and you don’t look like the type of girl who’s ever been in trouble before.”
“Thank you.” she said softly. “I promise to pay more attention next time.”
“Good.” He turned on his heel, strutting away without another word.
Holland pushed through the gate, walking down the sidewalk as quickly as her feet would carry her. She made a few turns, her eyes catching sight of a few buildings that looked slightly familiar, but as she approached them, she suddenly felt lost again. The golden arches of the Mcdonald’s restaurant were familiar, but the outside of the building didn’t look the same.
She growled out in frustration, turning around in a circle in attempts to find anything else that looked familiar to her. When she noticed a few key details missing from the area she was standing in, she decided to just push through and keep walking. It was better than standing still in the ice cold wind of the winter night.
But as she continued down the sidewalk, she realized that she was most definitely lost.

Harry’s POV
When Harry finished up setting the dinner date he’d prepared for himself and Holland, he wiped his hands on his trousers before opening the door to his flat. He still had that hollow feeling in his chest that he got when she was far away, but he decided to knock on her door anyways. Maybe their weird connection was just a little off today. He stood there for a few minutes, occasionally knocking before he dropped his hand to the doorknob. It was a shot in the dark, but he had to try.
When the doorknob turned, he groaned as he pushed the door open.
Of course, she would leave her door unlocked.
He took note of the Christmas lights strung out on the rails of her balcony and the fake fireplace crackling on her television screen, but he didn’t see Holland. Her kitchen and living area lights were off, and the hallway was just as dark. He took careful steps, walking down it as panic started to rise in his chest. If she wasn’t home, where on earth could she be.
He pulled his phone out of his back pocket, clicking on Sarah’s contact as he peeked into Holland’s empty bedroom.
“Did your plan not go well?” Sarah answered.
“She’s not at home.” He said. “She’s not in her flat, Sarah.”
“Okay, so maybe she’s still cooling off?” she asked. “Call her.”
“She doesn’t have a phone.” He cursed under his breath, storming through her apartment back to his own. “Fuck, she’s probably lost, Sarah.”
“Take a deep breath.” Sarah’s voice switched from amused to serious. “This is Holland we’re talking about. If she’s lost, it’s probably in a Christmas store.”
“No, she never stays out this late.” Harry grabbed a coat and his keys, slamming his flat door shut before he turned the key in the lock. “She’s afraid of the dark.”
“Harry, just breathe.”
“I can’t, Sarah.” He cried out, the panic clear in his voice. “I have to find her. I can’t lose her like I lost them, I can’t.”
He hung up the phone stuffing it into his pocket before he jabbed the down button for the lift.
He struggled to get his coat on in the lift, his jaw tense as he tried to think of all the places she could be. Java Java was closed, Harrods was closing soon, and Paradise Records closed earlier when he told Niall to go home. He didn’t know of any other stores she might venture into, but he had to try to think like her if he was going to find her.
When he stepped onto the sidewalk outside of their building, he inhaled sharply.
The scent of berry and clove was feint, but he had no doubt in his mind that it would guide him towards Holland. He turned to the right, taking a few steps as the scent grew stronger. The warm feeling in his chest was back, and his heart was beating faster as he all but jogged down the sidewalk in search of his soulmate. He took a left turn at the end of the street, but when he did, her scent was gone. He turned around, taking the right instead. He followed that sidewalk to the end, letting out a frustrated growl as he pushed his fingers through his hair.
“Where the hell are you at, Holland?” He mumbled under his breath, breathing deeply as he let his eyes close. “C’mon baby, where are you?”
He could see her in his mind, walking past the Mcdonald’s just a few blocks away.
Harry’s feet moved quicker than they ever had, pounding against the pavement until he turned the corner where the Mcdonald’s was. He stopped when he saw her walking with her head down, his hands flying out to her biceps as she walked right into his chest. He held her tight, keeping her from falling over as his body became unsteady.
“Fuck!” He wrapped her tightly, planting his heels down. “You scared me half to death, Holland.”
“Harry?” She gasped out, tilting her head back to look up at him. “It’s you.”
“Yeah, it’s me.” He brushed his thumb over her cheek, watching her face as her eyes filled with tears. “I’m so sorry for hurting you, baby. You didn’t deserve to be treated like that, and I swear that I’ll never do something like that again.”
“I just want to help.” She whispered. “Let me take some of the weight off of your shoulders, Harry. You don’t have to carry it alone.”
He sniffled, nodding softly before he pulled her into a crushing hug.
“Let’s go home.” He whispered. “I made us dinner.”
“Did you?” She asked, her voice raising an octave in excitement.
“Yeah, I did.” He let out a wet chuckle, wiping under his own teary eyes as he pulled back. “I made us pizza.”
Holland tossed her arms around his neck, pulling him into a hug.
“Finally!”

Holland’s POV
Harry pushed the door to his flat open, holding Holland’s hand tightly in his own.
She smiled at his back, trying to hold back the laugh building up in her throat. He’d refused to let her hand go the entire walk home, and he even threatened to carry her on his back if she didn’t cooperate with him. He was being stern, and pouty the entire time, but Holland found it cute. It wasn’t at all like the closed off version of Harry she saw earlier that morning.
As she walked through the door, the scent of gingerbread and vanilla greeted her sense. Harry shut the door behind her, giving her a sheepish smile as her brows lifted up. In the center of his kitchen counter was a candle, the flame still lit up as the warm smell filled his home.
“You’re burning a candle.” She said softly, pulling at her scarf as Harry locked the door. “You hate candles.”
“I do.” He said. “But you like them.”
“I love them.” She smiled over her shoulder at him. “Why are you burning that for me?”
“It’s a small detail in my very complex plan to apologize to you.” He cleared his throat, stripping his coat off as his cheeks turned red. “I was a dick to you this morning, and you didn’t deserve that.”
“You’re right, I didn’t.” She turned back, handing him her scarf before she started working on the buttons of her coat. He hung it up on the coat rack, his face solemn like a puppy who had just been scolded. “And I do understand why you did it, but that doesn’t make it okay.”
“It’s really hard for me to open up.” He reached for her coat next, hanging it up next to his own before he held his arms out. Holland walked into them happily, snuggling into his soft green sweater as he sighed. “I’ve spent three years keeping every emotion, every serious thought, every fear in my own head. I don’t tell people, because I’m afraid of being vulnerable with someone I could lose in the blink of an eye.”
“Harry,” Holland tilted her head back, looking at him with a frown. “People are going to come in and out of your life, that’s inevitable.”
“But if I don’t get attached, then it won’t hurt so bad when they go.” He shrugged. “That’s why I tried pushing you away today. I know I could possibly lose you forever, and we’re already so close to each other. Losing you even now would nearly kill me, and I hardly know you.”
“I know.” She said. “But wouldn’t you rather spend the time that we have left together falling in love? I don’t want my time on earth to be meaningless, Harry. I want to be proud of what I’ve left behind when I go-”
“Stop talking about dying.” He whimpered, clenching his eyes shut. “I can’t take it.”
“It might happen.” She said. “I don’t know if I’m strong enough to take Jack Frost down on my own. My magic is too weak, and I cant do it without-”
She paused, taking a deep breath before she pulled away from Harry.
“Without what?” Harry’s eyes searched her face.
“Don’t worry about it.” She said. “I’m working on it.”
“You’re being a hypocrite.” He scoffed, wiping at his cheeks in frustration. “You’re not exactly...you say that you like to be honest, but I know that you’re not telling me everything.”
“Because I know you’re not ready to hear all of it.” She crossed her arms over her chest, staring back at him as his jaw tensed. “What?”
“You’re just as bad as me, you know that?” He said. “If we’re gonna spend our time falling in love, and not fighting, then we need to lay it all out on the table. No more secrets.”
Holland bit her lower lip, inhaling sharply through her nose.
“I don’t think you’re ready.” She said. “I don’t think you’ll even believe me.”
“I know when you’re telling the truth.” He rolled his eyes at her. “I can feel it when you lie, remember?”
“That’s fair.” She mumbled, looking up towards the ceiling as she sucked in a sharp breath. “I don’t want you to be mad at me for it though.”
Harry’s body nearly deflated as he looked at her face.
“Baby, I am so sorry for earlier.” He moved closer, grabbing her hands. “I shouldn’t have snapped at you like that, and I know better now. I swear that I won’t be upset with you for whatever it is you have to share.”
“You’re gonna be a little upset.” She held up a hand, nearly pinching her fingers together as Harry chuckled. “But it’s only fair for me to be honest with you if I expect the same in return.”
“Okay.” He squeezed her fingers. “Let me get the pizza reheated, and then we can talk about the entire thing.”
“Do you have any alcohol?” Holland cleared her throat, leaning against the counter sheepishly as Harry’s brows shot up. “I think we might need it.”
“Noted.” He said, clearing his throat. “I’ll see what I’ve got.”
🍷🍷🍷🍷
Harry’s POV
“So, Santa is your dad.” He asked Holland, his third glass of Merlot nearly empty in his hand as he stared at Holland. “And Jack Frost is trying to kill the two of us to avenge his Father’s death?”
“Yeah.” Holland nodded, taking another bite of her pizza as Harry stared at her. “You okay?”
Her voice was muffled by dough and sauce, and if Harry wasn’t so shell shocked, he might have thought it was cute. He stared at her as she slowly chewed, keeping her eyes on him as he lifted his glass to his lips. He downed the red liquid before reaching for the bottle. Instead of pouring another round, he tipped the bottle back, gulping the liquid down with ease.
“I saw your dad.” He blurted out, putting the bottle between his crossed legs. “When I was five years old, I saw him putting presents under the Christmas tree. I talked to him, and I promise him that I would never tell another living soul that I saw him.”
“I know.” Holland gave him a soft smile, lowering her slice of pizza to her plate. “He told me about that before I left home.”
“He was really nice.” Harry glanced down at his thighs. “I used to think about him all the time when I was a kid, and I loved Christmas so fucking much because of him.”
Harry could feel Holland tense up, and he knew that she wanted to ask.
“Harry.” She said his name softly, sliding her hand over his knee. “Is he the reason you hate Christmas? Because he asked you not to say anything?”
“No, he’s not.” Harry glanced up at her, taking a deep breath.
It was now or never.
He had to tell her.
“My parents died on Christmas morning in a car crash. They were on their way to the shops for more eggs, because we had this Christmas tradition where we would bake pancakes together, but we were out. They left before Gemma and I woke up, and they never came home.”
Holland stared back at Harry, her eyes glued to his own.
“I’m so sorry.” She whispered, moving her plate to the coffee table before taking the bottle of wine from his hands. “Gumdrop, c’mere.”
“You don’t have to-”
“Come here.” She said sternly, holding her arms open as she situated her legs out on the couch.
Harry crawled over to her, settling between her legs as she rested her head on the arm of the couch. He pressed his nose into her neck, willing the burning behind his eyes to go away.
“I can’t even imagine how horrible that must have been for you, Harry.” She brushed her fingers through the tangles of his curls. “To lose your parents in such a horrible way, I can’t even fathom it.”
“Christmas was my favorite holiday until they died.” He croaked out, sliding his arms around Holland’s body. “I just couldn’t stomach the thought of celebrating their deaths, because that’s what Christmas feels like now. It’s an anniversary for the worst thing that’s ever happened to me.”
He felt the tears escaping from the corners of his eyes, leaking onto his own cheeks, and Holland’s neck. She tightened her grip around his waist, burying her fingers in the hair at the nape of his neck with her other hand. He sobbed, his body shaking as he released all of the anger and pain that he kept pent up since their death.
“It’s going to be okay, gumdrop.” Holland pressed a soft kiss to his temple. “I know it sucks, but you're doing so good.”
“I miss them so much, Holland.” He gasped out, clawing at Holland’s body, searching for comfort. “I just want them back.”
“I know.” Holland’s voice cracked, but she was quick to clear her throat. “I wish I could bring them back for you, gumdrop. I wish I could take away all of the pain you have.”
Holland scratched at his scalp as he let out a tsunami of tears.
He was never afraid to cry in front of her.
He knew that she wouldn’t judge him for it.
“I love you so much.” She whispered against his ear, causing his breath to catch in his throat. “I know that isn’t enough to fix this, but I want you to know that I love you. It’s not okay to hold yourself back because you’re afraid of loss. It’s unfair to your heart, and you deserve so much more than that, Harry. You deserve happiness.”
“I don’t want to lose you, too.” He lifted his head up, inhaling shakily as he lifted a hand up to wipe at his tears. “I couldn’t take it, Holland.”
“You could.” She brushed her thumb over his other cheek, a few tears leaking from the corners of her own eyes as she offered him a tiny smile. “You’re so strong, my love.”
“Losing you would kill me.” He felt his throat growing tighter, and his heart squeezing in his chest at the thought.
Holland closed her mouth, inhaling before she closed her eyes.
“What?” He asked, his eyes searching her face. “What aren’t you telling me?”
“Um, there’s a lot to explain, but do you remember when you asked me what would help my magic?” Her cheeks were glowing red as she spoke, but Harry knew it wasn’t because of the wine. “Helping our souls bond will make my magic stronger. I could defeat Jack if we did that.”
“How do we do that?” Frantically, he pushed up on his arms, hovering over her so that his hair fell like a curtain around their faces. “Why haven’t we done it already?
“Well, you’ve done it, but I haven’t.” She mumbled as Harry tilted his head in confusion. “Sex.”
Oh.
Fuck.
Harry wouldn’t deny that he’d thought about her like that before.
He though about it often.
“Um, yeah-” He said, his face relaxing and his lips pressing together to hold back a wet chuckle. “Yeah, that’s something I know how to do.”
Holland shifted below him, clearing her throat.
“But we can’t do it, Harry.” She sounded just as broken as he felt. “I won’t.”
“You won’t have sex with me?” Harry frowned. “Earlier you said-”
“I wasn’t thinking straight.” She closed her eyes, shaking her head. “We shouldn’t have even talked about it.”
“Do you mind me asking why you’ve changed your mind?” He asked softly, pressing his body back into hers, his arms wrapping around her. “I respect your decision either way, but I’m just curious. If the bonding of our souls is going to help your magic, why wouldn’t we try it?”
“Because if our souls are bonded, and I die….you go with me.” She sniffled, brushing her hand over the back of his head as he nuzzled his nose into her neck. “And I refuse to let you die because of me.”
“That’s not your choice to make.” He lifted his head again, shaking his head at her with furrowed brows. “You don’t get to make choices for me, just like I don’t get to make them for you. If it’s something that will help us win this fight, then I’m all in.”
He sat up, falling back to his side of the couch as she brushed her palms over her face, clearly upset and frustrated. It was cute, seeing someone with so much patience frustrated. His heart still ached with hers, though.
“I can’t.” She said. “I can’t be the reason you die.”
“You wouldn’t be the reason, Holland.” He sighed, brushing his fingers through his hair. “Jack Frost would be the reason.”
“What about Noah?” She sat up, looking at Harry. “What about Gemma?”
“Holland-”
“Your sister has lost her parents, she doesn’t need to lose her brother too.”
“Don’t.” His jaw tensed as he looked towards the ceiling. “She would tell me to do it, Holland. If she knew what was happening, she would tell me to do whatever it takes.”
“If I die, it’s over!” Holland exclaimed. “You’ll be gone, Harry.”
“I would rather die with you, than live in a world without you.” He let out a frustrated huff, shaking his head. “Is there anything besides fucking that we can do to bond our souls?”
“Not really.” Holland mumbled, looking down to her lap. “It’s when you’re the most vulnerable.”
“You’re not wrong about that.” He mumbled, trying to fight off a smirk. “If I can’t convince you that it’s worth it, would you still have sex with me before Jack Frost tries to murder us?”
Holland reached behind her back before she hit Harry with a throw pillow.
“Baby, I’m kidding!” He groaned out, holding his hands up. “I just wanted you to laugh.”
“You’re such a guy.” She growled out. “I love you, and I’d love to experience that with you, but we just can’t.”
“What was it that you said earlier, about spending the last of your days loving, and not fighting?” He asked. “That’s a nice way to love-”
“I can’t tell if you’re trying to seduce me because you really want to get into my pants, or because you want our souls to bond so that you die with me.” Holland narrowed her eyes at him as he smiled back at her. “Which one is it?”
“A bit of both, if I’m being honest.” He pulled a face, waving his hand in a so-so motion. “Both have their perks.”
“I won’t.” She whispered. “I can’t.”
“I’m giving you permission, but I’m not forcing you.” He said. “I want you to make your magic stronger, and I also want to make you cum a lot before we possibly die. I think it would be unfair to let you die a virgin.”
“You’re horrible.” Holland dropped back against the couch, covering her face with her palms as Harry laughed. “I was promised a beautiful apology, and all I got was a candle and horny soulmate.”
“I’m so sorry, baby.” Harry smirked, kneeling onto the couch before he fell between Holland’s lips with a goofy grin. “Let me kiss it better?”
Holland rolled her eyes, but she let him plant his lips on hers anyways.
“I love you, too.” He whispered, pulling back from her mouth for a second to whisper the words before he stole another kiss. “I always have, and I always will.”

Slow Descent: Chapter 2: Trapped in Your Own Story (Why Didn't You Write a Better Situation?)
Day 2 entry for @hatchetober
Prompt: Nightmare
Ao3
Arlen sits up straight out of bed, his shoulder length hair swinging with the movement. He gasps for air before covering his face with his hands.
One week. It's been one week since he had gone into the Witchwood. He had gone the night he had heard the girl at the mall mention it. He hadn't seen anything, but hadn't been able to shake the feeling someone had been watching. The feeling had only intensified when he had reached a clearing. He had barely set a foot into it before immediately turning around and racing back to his car.
Then he had the nightmare: going into the clearing, the man with the apple, everything going black, the apple in the clearing.
He tried to brush it off. It was just a dream, after. Despite his best efforts, though, he couldn't convince himself. He headed back to Oakley Park.
During the day, the Witchwood seemed… peaceful. Birds chirped happily as Arlen made his way through the forest. He broke through the trees into the clearing. Everything looked normal. He walked forward, eyes scanning the trees. He glanced down, freezing at the sight of a green apple with a couple bites taken out of it on the ground in front of him.
He had never screamed so loud before.
Every night, every single fucking night for the past week, he's had the exact same nightmare.
With a heavy sigh, Arlen drops his hands from his face. He wanted to do research for a horror novel, not end up in one. He scratches at his beard thoughtfully. If he were a character in a novel though, he knows what his next step is.
He needs to find out who the man in denim is.
One shower and a quick breakfast later, Arlen steps out of his front door just in time to get hit in the head by a soccer ball. The ball bounces on the driveway before rolling to a stop.
"Sorry, Mr. Mercier!" A boy with shaggy blonde hair calls as he jogs over from his lawn next door.
Arlen rubs his head. "It's okay, River," he assures him. He kicks the ball back to him, sending it in a graceful arc.
River easily blocks the ball with his chest, letting it drop at his feet. "You wanna play?" He asks hopefully.
"Not right now, I have some things to take care of. Why not ask one of your brothers to play?" He suggests.
A guilty grimace comes over River's face. "Cause they're all in lessons right now," he admits, "I'm supposed to be-"
The door to an ornate house to the right flies open. A small, elegantly dressed woman storms out, her dark eyes burning with rage. "River! Why is your father paying for piano lessons if you're not even going to attend?!"
River ducks his head, muttering a bye, Mr. Mercier before scooping up his ball and racing back home.
"Good morning, Mrs. Monroe," Arlen greets as the woman approaches him, "How are you?"
The woman chuckles. "Oh, stop it with that Mrs. Monroe nonsense." She steps almost uncomfortably close to him, brushing her blonde hair out of her face. "I've said many a time that you're permitted to call me Linda."
"Of course, my apologies," Arlen replies, trying his best not to smirk. "Good morning, Linda." He considers her for a moment. "You've lived in Hatchetfield for a while, right?"
"Since I was born, yes," Linda responds in a prideful tone. "Why?" She moves in a bit more, carefully trailing a finger down his chest.
Arlen does smirk this time. "Does anyone around town dress… eccentrically? Like, wearing a lot of denim, for example?"
Linda scoffs as her hand drops. "The only person I can think of who has abused their denim privileges is that Holloway woman, but she… died? Disappeared? I can never remember which one." She waves the thought away. "Only person who was troubled by it anyhow was Duke Keane."
"Duke Keane?" Arlen asks, raising an eyebrow. "Can you tell me more about him?"
"I could…" Linda smirks. "It'll cost you though." She walks past Arlen toward his front door. She looks back over her shoulder and winks at him. Grinning, he follows.
-
A couple hours later, a second shower, and feeling much more relaxed than before, Arlen finds himself walking through the bright orange door of Java Cafe. For a place that claims to be a tiny town, it seems to be pretty big. He can't think of any other small towns that have three coffee shops.
He's barely inside when he hears a barista call "Duke! Coffee for Duke!"
A man in a black polo and gray slacks approaches the counter with a warm smile to claim the coffee. His dark hair is combed back from his face. Arlen follows him back to a small table in the corner. "Excuse me?" Arlen says.
The man turns to look at Arlen. "Can I help you?" He asks, sounding politely confused.
"Hopefully." Arlen gives a friendly smile. "Are you Duke Keane?"
"I am." Realization flashes across Duke's face. "Are you looking to report? I can take a statement, but it would be best to contact the Depart-"
Arlen interrupts him. "Oh no, no, nothing like that. I…" he hesitates as the weight of what he's about to ask hits him. "I was hoping you could tell me about Miss Holloway."
A chill suddenly fills the air, making Arlen shiver. Duke's features crumple for a moment before turning stony. "I don't know why you'd be asking about her," Duke replies coolly, looking away from Arlen. He picks up a bag from the table and slips it over his shoulder. "She… passed several years ago."
"I'm sorry. Talking about her must be painful." Arlen nods respectfully. "I just need to know if she knew anything about a man who wore all denim."
Duke's entire body goes stiff. Slowly, he turns his head to look at Arlen. "What kind of man in all denim?"
"Dark, greasy hair, dark eyes," Arlen describes. watching horror creep into Duke's eyes. "Deep voice, had an apple."
"... what's your name?"
The question takes him off guard. "Oh, um, Arlen Mercier."
"You busy tomorrow?" Duke asks as he reaches into his bag. He waits for the negative before offering a business card. "That's my personal number. Text me in the morning. I'll be better able to answer your questions then."
Arlen takes the card. "Thank you."
"Don't thank me yet." Duke appears grim. "If it's him… well, we'll talk about it more tomorrow." He nods at Arlen before turning and walking out of the cafe.
Note: Arlen Mercier is my original character, please do not use without my permission

Coffee and Coding
A PangxWave Coffee Shop Au...
Wave was on the hunt for Wifi. That’s all he needed. He was in the middle of an extremely complicated coding assignment when his internet crashed at his apartment. If he didn’t get the assignment done in time, there was no telling what his Professor was going to think of him and he certainly wasn’t going to get the TA position he wanted so badly.
He stopped out of his apartment building and stalked the streets for a ‘free wifi’ sign. The first place he came across was a coffee shop. He wasn’t particularly a Java consumer but he was kind of desperate so he walked inside, his computer bag slung over his shoulder and walked up to the counter. He looked up at the menu and decided to order something completely at random because he had no idea what all of the different drinks were. To Wave, coffee was coffee. There didn’t need to anything fancy about it.
And yet, when he looked down from the menu, he almost dropped his computer bag and his order flew from his mind. The young man standing behind the counter was smiling at him so openly and unabashedly that it made Wave’s breath hitch. No one, especially not a complete stranger, had looked at him this way before. Wave’s eyes fell to the Barista’s name tag, which read: ‘Pang’.
When Wave did not immediately share his order, Pang smirked slightly and muttered, “Do you know what you want? I know our menu can be kind of overwhelming…”
“Uh….” Wave usually prided himself on being articulate but he could not seem to string a coherent sentence together.
“I’m going to be honest with you, I just started working here but, if you trust me, I can just make something and bring it out to you.” Pang suggested gently, noticing that Wave seemed to be indecisive.
Wave nodded slowly and held out phone to pay by ‘tap’ but Pang held out a hand to stop him. Pang explained, “You seem stressed. It’s on me. I’ll just cash it out as one of my practice drinks but, in return, you have to tell me how it is. Deal?”
“Deal.” Wave confirmed, still in a bit of a haze because of Pang’s kindness.
Pang nodded toward the tables in the coffee shop. “Go get set up and I’ll bring the drink to you in a bit. Our wifi password is ‘CoffeeisaGift’”
Wave nodded again and made his way over to a table to set up his computer. How the hell was he going to be able to focus on his work when Pang was so naturally distracting? Wave cursed himself for finding the Barista so interesting.
As much as he knew that he needed to get work done, Wave couldn’t help himself. He kept staring back at Pang who had an adorable look of concentration etched across his face as he worked on Wave’s drink. There was only so much Wave could do about concentration when a cute guy was going out of his way to make a drink especially for him. But, alas, he had work to do so he finally refocused and got to work on his assignment.
“Sorry it took so long. I wanted to practice some foam art.”
Wave looked up from his screen to see Pang hovering behind it, a steaming cup of coffee clutched between his hands. Pang had a nervous look on his face, his brows knotted together, and Wave had the sudden urge to reach up and smooth them out. There was no reason for Pang to be nervous - Wave would gladly drink anything he made.
“No problem. I was able to get a lot of work done.” Wave shared and a grin spread across his lips as Pang set down the mug to the side of his computer. “Thanks again for making me the drink.”
Wave looked down and saw a smiley face floating in foam at the top of the drink. . When he looked up, he saw Pang studying him expectantly. Pang obviously wanted to get Wave’s verdict on the drink and even though Wave was not a coffee connoisseur, he was the king of opinions.
He brought the cup to his mouth and took a small sip, making sure that he didn’t burn his tongue. The taste was sweet but subtle and shockingly the taste of coffee was not too prevalent, which Wave actually preferred. He put the cup down and looked up to Pang, “That is delicious. What’s in it?”
A look of amusement crossed Pang’s face and Wave wondered what could possibly be so funny about what he had said. Pang noticed Wave’s confusion and clarified, “You have a foam moustache. It’s kind of adorable.”
Before he could even process Pang’s words, Pang had grabbed a napkin and was wiping Wave’s upper lip with foam. No one, especially a stranger, had been in Wave’s space like this before but Wave was shocked to find himself completely comfortable with Pang’s presence. When Pang was done, he pulled away the napkin.
“It’s a latte with coconut milk.” Pang explained. “Natural sweetness from the milk and because I wasn’t sure if you were okay with lactose or not, I thought I’d go with an alternative.”
“T-thank you.” Wave managed to get out, sliding his hands around the mug once again. “It really is good, though. How long have you been working here?”
Pang seemed surprised that Wave wanted to continue the conversation and he checked behind him to see if there was any new customers lingering. When he saw none, Pang pulled out the chair and sat across from Wave at the table.
“I’ve been working here for just a few weeks.” Pang explained. “I go to Ritdha University so I live in the area too.”
“I go there too!” Wave expressed with a bit more enthusiasm than he probably should have. “What’s your major?”
“Oh, cool! I’m surprised I haven’t seen you around. Political Science.” Pang answered. “I want to be a lawyer or maybe work in government some day. What about you?”
“Computer science.” Wave responded and took another sip of his drink. “Actually, that’s why I’m here… my Wifi from my apartment went down so I had to come here to complete an assignment on time.”
“Oh, you mean you didn’t just come for the coffee?” Pang teased and leaned over to see what Wave was working on. “What’s the assignment?”
“Coding…” Wave felt his cheeks get hot. “Uh… it’s not that interesting…Geeky stuff.”
“That’s not geeky.” Pang sat back down and respected Wave’s privacy. “I think there’s nothing more intriguing than someone who is openly passionate about what they do, especially when it’s something that most people might not understand.”
Wave felt himself relax significantly because of Pang’s words. Wave tried to recall a time where he had instantly felt so connected to someone and couldn’t think of anything. There was something about Pang’s smile and energy that put Wave at ease.
“Why do you want to be in Politics?” Wave wondered, wanting to divert the conversation away from himself but also wanting to know more about Pang.
Pang got a serious look on his face and chewed his lip for a moment, clearly trying to put his thoughts together before sharing them with Wave. This was a quality that Wave couldn’t help but admire. Pang was really thinking about his response before he shared it.
“I want to help people.” Pang finally answered. “I think that sometimes people don’t have a voice because of certain societal limitations. I want to help people find that voice and help the world become a bit more just and equal.”
Wave was surprised by how mature Pang’s answer was, considering how young he looked. Wave figured they were around the same age. Pang had really thought about it while Wave had chosen technology because he had an affinity for it and had always been told that it would be a lucrative career path. His answer compared to Pang’s seemed juvenile and selfish.
“Wow, we’ve been talking this whole time and I still don’t know you name…” Pang prompted when Wave did not respond right away.
“I’m, uh, Wave.” Wave spat out, having been planning his response and compliment about Pang’s initial answer but felt more comfortable answering Pang’s question anyway.
“I’m Pang.” Pang shared, pointing to his name tag. “But I, uh, guess you already knew that. Anyway, sorry for chatting your ear off, I guess you probably need to get back to work instead of being distracted by an annoying Barista.”
“You’re not annoying.” Wave protested, wanting to make sure that his awkwardness was not coming across as disinterest. “The drink is amazing. Thanks again.”
Pang got up to his feet and smiled at Wave, “Well, I’m glad to hear that I’m not as horrible as I thought I was at making coffee. I should probably get back to work anyway…”
“O-okay.” Wave murmured, slightly disappointed, but he tried to keep his composure neutral.
Pang nodded and made his way back behind the counter and returned to his work tasks. Wave returned to working on his assignment, sipping away at the drink Pang had made him every so often as he got closer and closer to completing it. He was so lost in a world of binary that he did not even notice how dark it was getting outside. When he was finally done, he looked up from the screen and noticed that there no other customers left behind in the coffee shop.
Wave went to take one final sip of his drink and was surprised to find that it had gone cold. He drank it anyway and started to pack his things up, trying to see out of his periphery if Pang was still behind the counter or had already gone off shift. Wave picked up the mug to return it to the counter.
“All done?”
Pang appeared in front of Wave so suddenly that the mug slipped through his fingers in surprise. Thankfully, Pang reacted quickly enough and was able to catch the mug in his hands. Wave winced apologetically as Pang placed the cup on the counter.
“Not so good with your hands, are you?” Pang shared in a suggestive tone and Wave’s eyes grew wide in shock. Pang registered Wave’s reaction and quickly clarified, “I was kidding. Sorry. I shouldn’t be making jokes like that when we’ve only known each other for, like, five minutes.”
Wave’s gaze dropped to the floor to avoid Pang’s but after a quick breath, he looked up again and shared, “No worries. And, yah, I got the assignment done so I can sleep easy tonight… speaking of… are you supposed to be closed already?”
Pang smiled sheepishly and shrugged, “You just looked so focused and I did some extra deep cleaning. I really didn’t mind staying behind a bit later than usual.”
“You didn’t have to do that.” Wave muttered, a bit embarrassed that he had received special treatment and likely inconvenienced Pang.
“I know.” Pang confirmed, staring intently at Wave. “But I wanted to.”
“Oh…” Wave, once again, was taken aback by how straightforward Pang was. There was no BS, Pang seemed to the type of person who went for what they wanted, when they wanted. Wave was quite envious of that.
“Sorry if I’m making you uncomfortable.” Pang shared, “There’s just something about you that makes me want to get to know you more. You’re kind of an enigma, like a mystery I want to solve.”
“N-no it’s okay.” Wave assured him and a soft smile played on his lips. “I’m just not used to this kind of attention, especially not from someone like you…”
“Someone like me?” Pang echoed, clearly confused.
Wave considered his words carefully before responding, “Someone so confident, kind, friendly… I usually only get approached by people who want something from me… like, help on an assignment, want me to fix their computer, that kind of thing….You don’t need help with homework, do you?”
Pang chuckled lightly. “No, I think I’m okay. I’m sorry that’s your experience though. It probably makes it hard for you to trust people…”
“Yah…” Wave agreed, shocked by how quickly Pang seemed to be able to figure him out.
“Well, if you’re willing to take a chance on me, I would love to earn your trust.” Pang stated plainly. “Coffee’s great and all, but, would you maybe want to grab a drink with me sometime?”
Wave was at a complete loss of words. Was Pang, the adorable Barista, asking him out? He didn’t want to jump to conclusions too quickly so he tried to play it cool. He managed to get out, “Um, sure.”
Pang pulled a napkin from the dispenser on the counter and scrawled his number on it before passing it to Wave. “No pressure. Call or text me if you’re interested.”
Wave nodded, in a bit of a daze, and Pang guided him to the front door of the coffee shop, obviously needing to do some other last minute duties to close up the coffee shop. Wave walked through the door and turned to face Pang, who was hovering on the threshold, beaming at Wave.
“Thank you for the drink.” Wave murmured, and felt his cheeks grow hot before he blurted out, “I’ll text you later on tonight.”
Pang’s eyes lit up before he nodded, “See you soon, Wave. I look forward to getting to know more about you…”
With that, Pang disappeared back into the shop and locked the door behind him.
Wave, who had been so determined that the universe was against him when his Wifi stopped working that morning now was quite sure that he was meant to stumble upon that coffee shop on that particular day…
The universe might have taken his Wifi but it had given him the gift of Pang.

Darcyverse Drabbles
Written for the Darcyverse Drabble Race game on discord. If you'd like to join the Darcyverse on discord, drop me a line! We'd love to have you, and we're always looking for new Darcy fans to hang out with.
Prompt 1: Ultraviolet
There’s something about the way Carol looks in the dark, a glow off of her skin, that makes Darcy feel like she’s peering into an alien world. Like colour is suddenly brighter and more wild than she’s ever thought it was possible to be before. She can almost see the far bits of the spectrum, just beyond what her eye can reach, dancing on Carol’s skin.
She wonders what it’s like to hold so much magic within you. But beneath her touch, Carol’s skin comes alive, sparking under her hands, and Darcy thinks she’s come close to knowing after all.
…
Wanda’s magic leaves a faint smell of ozone in the atmosphere, so when Darcy walks through the door she knows something is up. Cautiously, she pads into the kitchen, making no noise, and puts the shopping on the counter.
Wanda’s by the window, her hair flowing in a breeze of her own creation, dark purple swirling around her.
“Bad day?” Darcy asks softly.
The magic falls, the smell in the air clears, and the room lights up once more. “In a manner of speaking,” says Wanda. “I’m glad you’re back.”
Darcy rests her chin on Wanda’s shoulder and says, “always.”
…
The problem with an alien species that is ultraviolet in colour is that they’re fucking invisible. At least, they are to people who aren’t mantis shrimps, which is the first time Darcy has wondered if life would be simpler if she were a shrimp.
She’s holding one of Jane’s scanners up like a weapon, wandering around the lab with her arm carefully outstretched and wondering if this is truly going to be her inglorious and undignified end.
It’s then that Jane flips a switch flooding the lab with a strange purple light and making the creature visible. Darcy strikes.
…
Space is weird. Space is super weird, and Darcy has decided that space is arguably too weird to live in and that she’s had quite enough of everything being super, stupidly weird.
“So, let me get this straight,” she says, furious at the weird stupid space predicament. “They shot us with a light ray that somehow took out our sensors.”
“That is about the shape of it,” says Rocket. “I can honestly say I didn’t see it coming.”
“So, you’re saying we’ve been… blinded by the light.”
Peter gives her a high five, but all Darcy feels is annoyed. Honestly, fuck space.
…
Prompt 2: Black Hole
“Ah,” said Carol mildly. “Shit.”
“Shit?” Darcy asked, a little less mildly. “No, not shit. Don’t say shit when you’re flying a space ship. Do pilots say shit? No. Because shit is bad! No shit!”
“Yeah, shit is bad,” said Carol. “We, uh, may or may not be going into a black hole.”
“A black hole?” Darcy said.
Carol sighed. “You know what I’m gonna just go out and push.”
There was nothing Carol had ever done, or possibly ever could do after this, that would be more astounding to Darcy than watching her literally push the ship out of the gravitational pull of the black hole.
…
Black Hole coffee was the only place in town that served java bitter enough to suit Valkyrie, whose taste in coffee was that it should be nearly undrinkable. Darcy’d got used to it though, braving blacker and blacker coffee until the caffeinated sludge the Black Hole served started to actually become appealing.
Valkyrie smiled at her over her cup, a half-torn glow-in-the dark print of one of the Hubble photographs peeling off the wall behind her. Everything about the black hole screamed bitter grunge, but Darcy was surprised to find it had suddenly become the happiest place she’d ever been.
…
Valkyrie joining a Ska band was somehow both something Darcy hadn’t expected and something that made total sense as soon as she said it. Anyway, it was for this reason that Darcy wound up spending most of her nights tucked away in the corner of the Black Hole, curled up at the back table, watching her girlfriend’s mediocre-at-best band play.
It was worth it, for the smiles Valkyrie flashed at her – just for her – or the way she came over and kissed her at the end of the set, her breath tasting like coffee.
Darcy bought the band’s shirt for everyone she knew.
…
“I just don’t think it could. There are rules about matter – it might be magic, but it’s still matter,” said Jane emphatically, gesturing with her mug.
“Yeah, but it’s a magic hammer. It’s virtually indestructible. I think it would make it through.”
Jane sighed. “Virtually doesn’t mean actually. The laws of physics still apply, Darcy.”
“Says you. We could always try it…” Darcy suggested, grinning maniacally.
Jane gave her a flat look. “No,” she said bluntly. “We are not asking Thor if we can throw his hammer through a black hole.”
“But it’s for science!” shouted Darcy. ...
Prompt 3: Solar
Darcy first gets the sinking feeling when the little kid says, “mister Obi-Wan, sir?” in a voice that suggests something is about to go completely, thoroughly and utterly tits up.
“It’s just, we’re going to have to pass through a solar flare,” the kid says, very earnestly.
Darcy can’t really see why it’s a problem, but all of her senses say this kid knows something she doesn’t. The Mister Obi-Wan Sir in question, however, carries on.
It’s only later when they’d crash landed in a strange and foreign galaxy, camping under the worlds most undulating and pungent trees, that Darcy gives the kid a nod. “No solar flares; got it.”
…
Carol can feel the power humming just beneath her skin, wanting to be let out. It’s like holding on to a sun in her bare hands. Every touch she gives to Darcy has to be careful, so careful – careful she doesn’t burn, or hurt. She feels sometimes like the energy within her is burning her up like a real sun, and that one day she’ll be consumed by it.
Alone at night, so glows faintly in the dark. Her skin is luminous and the light flows out through her. And she lets it out, lets it burn through her, bright and hot, until she can lie back down on the grass and stare up at the stars.
…
There’s a side to Valkyrie Darcy really hadn’t seen coming. They’re waiting for the sun to rise again on the longest day of the year – it’s barely set, and she can still see the faint flicker of light on the horizon, a pale gold that catches Valkyrie’s face and seems to bring out the colour of her skin. Valkyrie is staring intently at the horizon, waiting.
“We used to hear them call,” she says softly. “This was a holy day.”
Looking at Valkyrie’s face, so enraptured by the sun, surrounded by the survivors of Asgard, Darcy says softly, “it still is.”
…
New Asgard does everything by the sun, and it’s a kind of living Darcy thrives in. Before you never would have caught her dead out of bed at 6am, but now, now she rises and moves with the sun, changing with the seasons. It’s on New Asgard that Darcy finds herself again, post-snap, post-everything. She presses her hands into the earth, weeding around seedlings and watching over them as they grow. And as the press up through the dirt, rising to meet the sun, so does she.
For the first time since the snap, Darcy remembers what it is to be alive.
…
“Are you growing weed?” is the first thing Jane asks when she visits Darcy’s apartment.
“No, I’m growing houseplants. Why, do you need weed?”
“It’s just, it looks like a grow-op in here.” And it sort-of does, with all of her grow-lights everywhere, blasting artificial sunlight down on her sun-starved houseplants. Darcy grimaces from within a small jungle of calatheas around her desk.
“I ran out of windows.”
Jane snorts, managing to find a seat nestled between two huge parlour palms.
“Well, I suppose as hobbies go, this one is fairly inoffensive,” Jane says. “Although I don’t know how you get any work done.”
...
Prompt 4: Cluster
There’s a gaggle of space penguins in the lab that definitely weren’t there when Darcy left to get a sandwich. They’re clustered around what Darcy has nicknamed ‘the teleporter’, an attempt by her and Jane to replicate Strange’s magic. Which, by the look of the space penguins, worked.
“Uh…?” was the best version of the question Darcy managed to ask.
Jane sighed, looking distinctly wet. “They came in on a wave through the teleporter. I can’t figure out why it’s not connecting to the right point.”
One of them nestled up to Jane’s leg, and there rest of the cluster seemed to take the hint and surrounded her.
Darcy did the only logical thing: snapped a photo.
…
Star clusters looked amazing from the telescopes Darcy had access to. Both in terms of the data she had, but also just to look at – bright collections of light in the night sky.
Turns out, flying a ship through them was horrible.
“Do you guys do this often, because I’m not gonna lie, it feels like we’re gonna die,” she said.
“As long as we don’t run into a solar flare, we’re fine,” said Rocket. “I’ve heard weird things about solar flares.”
As always, in space, Darcy came to better understand the difference between observing and being – and she wished she were back home.

Stress Relief
AN: Rafael Barba x Reader. Nick Amaro x Reader. Continuation to “The Gift.” This is all smut, NSFW fo’ sho.’ CW: threesomes, oral sex, some humiliation/name calling (i.e.: slut), vaginal sex, anal sex, double-penetration, bukkake. Like the whole kitchen sink. So heed the warnings. Smut is under the cut.
AN2: @itsjustmyfantasyroom requested: “We need that conversation between Nick and Barba with the leave up to that 😂 oh hot damn.” So, we get the convo between the two - so basically, it may be a prequel also to The Gift?
AN3: Apologies for any typos/misspellings.
WC: 2.6K words
**
Flashback to the events leading up to The Gift...
The second your head hit the pillow, you were fast asleep, snoring slightly. Rafael tossed and turned, unable to find a comfortable position. With an exasperated sigh, he climbed out of bed and made way to the living room. He turned on the TV and scrolled through the channels before landing on the cooking channel. Some celebrity chef cooking show was on. Whatever was happening on the show though, he was paying no mind to. Rafael could not get the image of you kissing Nick out of his mind.
--
The next morning, while you were showering, Rafael called the hotel to make sure all of the plans and accommodations were in place for your birthday festivities. Satisfied that the dinner and hotel reservations were in place, Rafael made one more phone call.
“Amaro, it’s Barba. We need to talk about last night. Can we meet?”
--
The coffee shop was busy with patrons needing their java fix. Nick popped his head in, before walking inside. He scanned the crowded shop before spotting Rafael in the back sitting in a half-booth. Rafael locked eyes with Nick and waved him over. Nick pushed through the crowd before landing where Rafael was. He pulled out the chair and sat. Nick was unsure as to why his fellow Cuban had called him – he had thought the air was clear, that it was a misunderstanding and that you were just acting recklessly since you were drunk.
“Thank you for joining me detective.” Rafael greeted. “I took the liberty of ordering you a cafecito.” Rafael pushed the small, but very strong, cup of coffee in front of Nick.
“Look – I thought last night was just a mistake. Y/N... she just got ahead of herself – it was the booze.”
“What if it wasn’t just the booze?” Rafael asked almost so quietly, Nick barely registered that the attorney said anything at all.
“She loves you. Everyone knows that.” Nick replied. “You two were made for each other. Just because Maria and I didn’t work out, doesn’t mean it won’t for you two.”
“I’m not talking about that.” Rafael replied, waving him off. “I’m talking about what if we wanted to make Y/N’s fantasy a reality?”
Nick nearly choked on the cafectio. “Excuse me?” He sputtered, spitting the dark liquid everywhere. He reached for a napkin and wiped himself.
“I’m serious. Look, Y/N and I have a very healthy sex life. We experiment, we play games, how is this any different?”
“Counselor, are you sure you’re not drunk right now?” Nick asked, eyeing Rafael.
“I’m not. I was just thinking I’d like to make it a reality for her. I have seen her with you – and you with her during interrogations.”
“That’s just – that’s a tactic used with perps. It doesn’t mean anything.” Nick explained.
“So you’re saying you wouldn’t fuck Y/N if given the chance?”
Nick inhaled sharply. He found himself unable to respond. Instead, he called over a waitress and requested another coffee. Nick turned his attention to Rafael. “That’s not fair.”
“I am not condemning you. I am offering you an opportunity.”
“So how would this work? Her and I … let’s say we hook up. Where are you in this little scenario?”
“I’ll be there.”
“So you’d watch? Or would you be… involved? How exactly would this work?
Rafael sighed himself and leaned back against the plush cushion of the booth. “I want to watch. If I decide to get involve, or if Y/N wants me involved, then I will.”
Nick sipped his coffee. Temptation called him. He had to admit the idea was enticing. Even though you were partners for years, there was always some kind of sexual tension between you and him. Timing was always poor. He was with Maria until he wasn’t. And when he wasn’t, you got involved with Rafael. And then Rafael proposed, he figured the door was shut for good.
“Does Y/N know about this little stunt of yours?”
Rafael shook his head. “No.”
“And you think she’s going to be okay with this? What if she’s not – this kind of thing can ruin a relationship.” Nick replied.
“I know my fiancée well enough to know she’s going to be okay with this.”
Nick nodded. “I’m in. What do you need to know about me and what should I know about you two?”
“We’re both clean. Y/N’s on birth control. I can give you copies of our bloodwork to show we’re clean.”
Nick raised his hand. “I trust you both. I’m clean too. I haven’t been with anyone since Maria.”
Rafael flashed a toothy grin. “ Okay. It’s just this weekend. Nothing more. Me entiendes?” Nick nodded. “Great. Let’s discuss her limits and boundaries.”
--
Fast Forward to Present Day
---
You slammed your hand on your desk after your laptop froze for what was the umpteenth time that morning. You had been in the office early to work on the paperwork that you were completely backlogged on. You had been sleeping like shit as of late. You also were concupiscent, or in other words, horny. Rafael had been consumed with “the trial of the century” and the two of you were passing ships as of late. Your once healthy sex life had hit a wall and you found yourself hot under the collar, wearing out your battery operated boyfriend. All in all, it made you very cranky.
“You alright?”
You looked up at the voice. It was your partner, Nick. You gave him a small smile. “Yeah, it’s just this stupid computer.”
Nick put down the cup of coffee he had in his hand. “Let me see what I can do.” You pushed your seat back to allow Nick into your space. As he leaned over, you got a whiff of his cologne and instantly your mind was transported back to the night of your birthday weekend. You remembered what it was like to sit on his face, his five o’clock shadow creating the most delicious burn. You remembered what it was like to have both his cock and Rafael’s cock in you at the same time.
“Fuck.” You mumbled. Nick turned to you, his brow raised.
Your cheeks flushed. “The computer. I am already so behind as it is.” You lied. Your breathing had increased slightly and Nick’s eyes glazed over your décolletage to the top swells of your breasts. He remembered what it was like to taste your sweet skin and have your tits over his face. His cock twitched under his pants.
Nick cleared his throat and tried to return on the task at hand. After pressing a few more buttons, he was able to get your computer back up and running.
“My hero!” You exclaimed. You gave him a full smile and all Nick wanted to do was pull you in for a kiss.
“You’re welcome.” Nick replied. “Um, how’s Barba? That case must be eating at him.” Nick felt a pang of guilt for feeling what he did – the rules on your birthday were one weekend, which happened. It was in the past.
“Busy. Cranky. So you know…” You began.
“The usual.” Nick finished. You laughed.
“Basically. I just hate that this case takes up all of his time. We hardly see each other. I miss him.” You replied wistfully.
Nick squeezed your shoulder. “It’ll be over soon enough.” As he walked away, an idea crept in your mind.
--
The light to Rafael’s office was still on despite it being near midnight. Rafael was pacing in his office, going over his case. The grand jury was indicting soon and he needed to be ready.
The slight rap on his door interrupted his thoughts. You poked your head in. “Hey.” You replied softly, as you walked in.
“Y/N! What are you doing here?” Rafael questioned. He approached you and pressed a kiss on your lips. “Is everything okay?”
The sound of the door creaking made Rafael realize you weren’t alone. “Nick.”
Nick approached the room, shutting the door behind him quietly. “Barba.”
Rafael’s eyes darted between you and Nick. “What’s going on?”
“Look, I know you’re busy and stressed. We were hoping maybe, we could help with that?” You replied.
It was then that Rafael realized you were wearing a long trench coat.
“Y/N.” Rafael’s voice was low and warning.
“Oh come on, counselor. You’re all wound up and stressed. We can help.”
Rafael shook his head. “I’m too busy. I can’t be dist…” His voice trailed off as you removed the trench coat, letting it pool to the floor. You were naked save for the thin straps of material that dared present themselves as lingerie.
You whipped around to Nick and wrapped your arms around his neck, pulling him in for a deep kiss. Nick’s hands trailed down your sides, to your ass. He grabbed a handful of flesh and pulled you tightly against his body. You gasped at the feeling of his cock, already so hard against your stomach. Nick’s kiss was intense; he swallowed your mouth almost as if he would never get another chance. His mouth moved along your neck and as he sucked a bruise on your neck, he opened his eyes to meet Rafael’s.
Rafael’s bright eyes were blown with lust. He moved to undo the straps of his suspenders, letting them hang off his waist.
Nick banded one arm around your waist and spun you to face Rafael. A large hand trailed down your neck, down your sternum, and down your abdomen to your cunt which was already soaked. Nick’s fingers pushed your panties to the side, the tips of his fingers were coated in your arousal. His fingers stroked the outside lips, teasing.
“She’s already so wet.” Nick panted. “God I missed this sweet little cunt. I told you then, I’ll say it again now… you’re a lucky man, Barba.”
Rafael could barely focus on Nick’s words. His mind was fuzzy as he watched Nick slip a finger inside of you.
“Do you know how jealous I am that you get to fuck Y/N day in and day out? And then I find out you’re too busy to take care of her needs and poor Y/N has been so horny.” Nick continued to goat. He slipped his finger out of you, causing you to whine. He shoved his finger in your mouth and you sucked his finger clean, pretending it was his cock.
“Is that so?” Rafael questioned, his voice rough and gravely. His shirt fell to the floor, followed by the rest of his clothes, leaving him just in his boxers.
You batted your eyes coquettishly. “Oh yes, papi. It’s been so lonely without you home.”
You walked up to Rafael and reached around to unclasp your bra, freeing your tits. Rafael growled and pulled you in for a kiss. His fingers circled your nipples, which were hard as peaks. He pinched them playfully, eliciting a moan from you. Meanwhile, Nick was sitting on the couch, shirtless. His cock was freed and he was unabashedly jerking himself off.
“Eres cochina.” Rafael growled at you. You smiled before dropping to your knees. You ran your hands in front of the tent in his boxers, feeling how hard Rafael was.
“You love it.” You replied huskily, before reaching up to pull the waist band of his boxers down. Before Rafael could reply, you took his cock in your mouth. Rafael hissed and he wrapped his hands in your hair, guiding you as you bobbed along his cock. Feeling particularly lascivious, you relax your throat and suck Rafael all the way down, deep throating him. The sensation alone was enough to make Rafael to near lose his balance but he recovered quickly. His hands gripped the desk from behind tightly as you continued to blow him.
Rafael’s eyes met Nick’s once more. Nick’s stroking was becoming more fervent. Rafael pushed your head off of him. You pouted and he caught your chin. “Nick is going to fuck you while you finish blowing me.” Rafael winked. As you bounded to Nick, Rafael swatted your ass, causing you to giggle.
You joined Nick on the couch. “How do you want me?” You asked Nick.
“Ride me baby.” Nick requested.
Rafael returned with a bottle of lube. Nick eyed Rafael. “Really? Lube here?”
“I told you – Y/N and I have a very healthy sex life.”
“Sometimes I say I need a warrant… sometimes I just need his cock.” You giggled.
Nick took the bottle of lube and poured some on his hand, before moving to stroke his cock. “Saddle up baby girl.”
You saddled Nick’s thighs. One arm braced his shoulder and you used your other free hand to guide Nick inside of you. You both groan as he stretched you from the inside out. You languidly begin to rock against Nick’s cock. Nick leaned up to capture a nipple in his mouth. You gasp briefly as Rafael shoved his cock in your mouth once more. Rafael drove into your mouth with rough strokes, causing you to gag and sputter on his cock.
Nick’s hips rise, fucking into you. You cry out around Rafael’s cock, feeling your orgasm quickly build. “God your pussy is so good.” Nick panted.
“Do you like Nick’s cock in your pussy Y/N?” Rafael asked in between grunts. A broken ‘yes’ bleeds around his cock as he continues to fuck your face. Rafael pulled out from your mouth, and you gasped. “Oh my God, don’t stop Nick! Oh fuck!”
Rafael reached for the lube and gathered some on his hand. He stood behind you, watching as Nick was balls deep inside of you. He looked over past your shoulder to Nick. “Lean her forward.”
Nick reclined more on the couch, pulling you close to him. Your pressed your tits to Nick’s face, allowing him to run his tongue on your skin.
You jump slightly feeling the cold lube drizzle along your ass. Rafael rubbed the lube over your puckered rosebud. Nick’s mouth was on your nipple and you reached down to rub your clit. Rafael pressed the head of his cock inside of you and you moaned loudly in response. Instinctively you rock your hips back, causing Rafael to push further in.
“Oh my God!” You cry out.
Rafael pressed himself so he’s close to lying on you. He moved your way hair out of the way and pressed kisses along your neck. “Cómo te sientes mi amor?”
“Full. Oh Rafael… fuck!” You cried out.
Rafael and Nick fuck you, finding a rhythm quickly. The pressure deep inside of you builds quickly and you come hard, your body spasming in orgasm. Your pussy clenched tightly around Nick’s cock. Nick continued pumping into you and before you knew it, he comes hard and deep inside of you. An animalistic grunt emanates from Rafael and he backs out of you to shoot thick ropes of hot come all over your ass.
Rafael collapsed onto the couch beside you and Nick. “Wow.” He panted. “Fucking wow.”
You hum in content, lazily kissing Nick. You break the kiss, and turn your head to Rafael while you lay against Nick, his cock still inside of you. You could feel some of his come weep out despite being still connected.
“Feeling better?” Rafael asked you. You sit up slightly to look at Nick and then at him.
“Mmmm, most definitely.” You sighed contentedly.
“So this was your idea then?” Rafael asked, reaching over to grab some tissues to clean up.
You bit your lip and nodded. “You’re not mad, are you?” Nick asked as he stroked your back softly.
Rafael smiled. “Not at all. I think I made a mistake saying last time was one time. We were overdue.”
You light up as his response. “Do you have more to do here?”
Rafael arched a brow. “Can’t get enough, hmm? I guess I can come to the office early and finish.”
“What our girl wants, she gets, isn’t that right Barba?” Nick asked, before pressing a kiss to your chin.
Your eyes meet Rafael’s once more.
“That’s right Amaro. Now lets take her home.”
FIN.

Who’s on which side of the coffee vs tea debate and what are their orders? (Hotch is literally the embodiment of the “one black coffee meme and that’s the hill I’ll die on)
OH WOW YES I LOVE THIS
TEAM COFFEE
Rossi: grande hot Americano. Likes to brag about how Starbucks is burned and too mainstream and he prefers fancier beans. In reality, cannot taste the difference.
Hotch: venti cold brew with nothing in it. Just cold bean water.
Emily: venti iced vanilla latte. Like Rossi, complains about Starbucks. Unlike Rossi, can definitely taste the difference.
Spencer: grande hot white chocolate mocha, extra white chocolate, extra whipped cream. Spencer had never tried coffee until he started hanging out with the big kids. This was A Huge Mistake. There is an unspoken rule with the barista at the campus coffee shop that if Spencer Reid is ordering a coffee after 5pm, they’re giving him decaf. (It’s not really an unspoken rule, Alex and Hotch told them this.)
TEAM TEA
James: trenta iced black tea, sweetened. It’s a sensible choice and not too caffeinated.
Alex: venti hot chai latte. Often gets it dirty.
JJ: venti peach white tea lemonade, sweetened. She doesn’t care about caffeine, she just wants something nice and sweet. (real talk: this is one of my favorite drinks)
TEAM “I NEED CAFFEINE”
Derek: coffee? bean water. tea? hot leaf juice. He drinks Bangs. Like...two a day. They are genuinely concerned his heart might explode. If he goes to Starbucks, he’s getting a java chip frappucino with no coffee and yes, he knows it’s just a milkshake.
Penelope: venti pink drink. She heard “pink drink” and knew she would like it. If she needs caffeine, she steals swigs from Derek’s ever-present can of Bang.

Love ur Clay & Violet series & since prompts r open was hoping you'd consider this request: Nile plane goes missing in unfamiliar territory while on a mission & Bookers Not taking the news too well as he & the family search for her. Then after a few months Copley sends them a location he mysteriously got send & they go guns drawn on high alert & like the bamf Nile is she's like "One would think ur Not happy to see me?" & they have a happy reunion!
Thank you for your prompt! You can read the answer on Ao3 here: “The Search”
...
"Booker, you need to sleep. You've been staring at that satellite feed for hours."
Booker shrugs Joe's hand off of his shoulder.
"This is a new source. I have more water to cover," Booker says, marking a potential point of interest. "I can't stop now."
"Book," Andy says quietly. "You're no good to her if you're so tired you can't see."
"I can't stop." Booker looks up at Andy with itchy, tired eyes. "Please, don't make me stop."
It's hard to see the pity and exhaustion in Andy's face. It's even harder to see the understanding and resignation.
"Okay. Okay, Book." Andy sighs. "Try and rest at some point."
Nile's plane went down three weeks ago. He can't stop looking now.
Hours later, Booker is so tired he can't keep his head up, his eyes burning from how long he's been staring at a computer. He ends up asleep on the laptop, pen pressing into his cheek.
...
Copley turns up on the doorstep of the Oslo house unannounced, two months after Nile's plane goes down.
"You bring news, I assume?" Andy asks, sitting up from her stretch on the living room floor.
"They found pieces of the plane," Copley says bluntly.
"Why do you not sound more pleased?" Nicky asks.
Booker doesn't have to ask.
"They only found evidence of the pilot and co-pilot in the wreckage," Copley says, pulling up the report. "No sign of Nile."
"Send me the coordinates. I can narrow my search further, pull more detailed data from a smaller field." Booker pulls up his map of the projected flight path and narrows the range. "If she isn't in the wreckage, she isn't trapped. She must have gotten to land."
No one else is saying anything. Booker can't stop talking, can't stop searching, can't stop to think about what happens next if Nile is trapped on the floor of the Pacific Ocean.
He has to keep looking, or he's going to fall apart.
"Thank you, Copley," Joe says finally. "We appreciate the update."
"I will keep looking through my channels. I know Booker will keep looking as well." Copley's smile is tight. "Maybe we will be able to put boots on the ground at some point."
"You are welcome to the spa- to Nile's room," Nicky suggests.
If Booker grinds his teeth any harder, he'll have to grow new ones.
It's not a fucking spare room. Nile is somewhere in the goddamn Pacific right now, but it's still her space.
"You know he doesn't mean anything by it," Andy says later. "Force of habit. We're searching too, you know. We miss her too."
"I know."
...
Booker doesn't know why he keeps paying for Nile's last burner phone. Doesn't know why he pings it daily like the phone isn't waterlogged on the bottom of the ocean. Doesn't know why he keeps fucking calling.
"You know what to do at the beep."
Booker hangs up. Dials again.
"You know what to do at the beep."
Again.
"You know what to do at the beep."
It's short, cheesy. It's one of the few audio clips they have of her. The downside of living in the shadows is lack of proof you exist.
Booker has a few Polaroids from their last family trip to the beach. Andy is covered in Zinc, and Quyhn's cover up is around both of them. Joe and Nicky look obnoxiously Eurotrash in their speedos. Nile looks so goddamn happy in her gigantic sunhat.
"You know what to do at the beep."
Booker cracks. To be honest, he's amazed that he made it three months without drinking himself into a coma.
He wakes to Joe gently wiping his face with a washcloth.
"Shh, habibi, you're okay."
"What if she’s gone, Joe? What if she’s gone and I never told her?"
It’s Quyhn who answers him, “She loves you. I know you two haven’t talked about it, but she loves you. Don’t you dare give up on her.”
"I won't," Booker promises. "I'll find her. Whatever it takes."
"Besides," Andy says from the doorway, voice rough. "She's too new. She's out there, somewhere."
“We don’t know how any of this works, not really,” he can’t look any of them in the eye, makes no attempt to hide the tears streaming down his cheeks.
Joe dabs at his face, and Nicky brings him water.
"Some things you just feel," Andy says firmly. "She's out there. I know it."
...
Booker has been staring at satellite footage of tiny islands in the Pacific for what feels like years when Copley comes bursting in.
They both set up shop on Java when the search for Nile entered its seventh week.
"I think I found her," Copley spits out, waving a piece of paper. "That, or someone else in trouble. Either way, time to pack and call Andy."
Booker takes the paper. Scribbled on it are a set of coordinates and a mess of Morse code.
"SOS 1812? That's really what came in?"
"The signal is bad, and it was brief, but they sent it three or four times before the signal cut out. It sounded like a makeshift device." James takes the paper and tosses Booker his go-bag. "Get in the goddamn car."
When they get to the closest airport to the microscopic island the signal came from, the rest of the team is waiting near the helicopter.
"I told you," Quyhn says with a smug smile.
Booker can't find it in himself to begrudge her the gloating, not when they have their best lead in three months in front of them.
Not when Nile might be less than an hour away.
...
They exit the helicopter on high alert, guns drawn in case the uninhabited island is actually more settled than they realized.
Booker has stared at the few images he could find for hours now. This little crescent-moon slip of land is in a fucking satellite blind spot.
The remnants of what might have been a driftwood SOS are the first sign that someone is here. It also shows that there's been a storm recently.
"There's a small crater lake that probably has fresh water," Booker says, scanning the beach. "If someone is here, they would find it."
"We'll head there first, then." Andy takes one look at him and steps back. "Lead the way."
The hike is tense, guns pointed in every possible direction with every step.
There's some sort of perimeter around the clearing, purposefully placed branches driven into the earth.
All Booker can think is "Please be Nile, please be Nile, please."
There's a shelter against the rock face, a campfire burning in a circle of stones.
"Show yourself," Booker orders, heart in his throat.
"It's about fucking time you got here."
Booker almost passes out when Nile emerges from a cave beyond the lean-to. She's thin, the kind of emaciation that comes with starving to death.
"What? Y'all don't look happy to see me."
A sob rips out of Booker's throat, and his brain shuts down. When he blinks, he has his arms around a too-frail Nile, holding her so tight she might break.
Nile crumples into his embrace. She cries until she can't cry anymore.
"I'm sorry," Booker says over and over again. "I'm sorry we took so long. I'm sorry I couldn't find you faster. I'm so fucking sorry, Nile."
"Shut up and hold me," Nile orders.
Booker can do that.
...
Booker can't relax, not until Nile looks less like death.
All the hours he put into looking for her are now spent taking care of her.
Even for an immortal, repeatedly drowning, dying of dehydration, and starving will lead to complications.
Nile wakes screaming more often than not, so Booker takes up vigil outside her door.
Nile has food trauma, so Booker helps her regulate her intake. He also brings back brownies from the bakery she likes whenever he goes out.
When Nicky gives her the all-clear, Booker is the one who helps her train.
"Stop pulling your fucking punches, Book." Nile runs a hand over her buzzed head. "Try and fucking hit me like you mean it."
Booker can't help it. He's trying not to baby her, but he can't bring himself to fight full-out.
"Just fucking fight me!" Nile shoves his shoulders, and Booker barely manages to not fall on his ass. "I'm fine, Booker. I'm fucking fine, just fucking spar with me!
Booker holds his ground until Nile sweeps his ankle out from under him and drops him to the mat. She pins him with her knee between his thighs and her hands on his wrists.
Booker stops breathing.
"Why won't you hit me?" Nile squeezes his wrists.
"I love you too much to hurt you," Booker says before he registers the thought.
Nile's fond exasperation is replaced with even fonder affection.
"You're an idiot." She kisses him, and Booker has never been happier. "I love you, too."
Booker tests her hold on him, shivering when he can't comfortably move.
"I thought I lost you without telling you," Booker admits. "I thought -"
"I'm right here, Book." Nile kisses him again. "I'm not going anywhere anytime soon."
"No more solo missions." Booker leans up as much as he can for another kiss.
"Agreed."

Ashton snippet
Found this while perusing through old docs, it’s titled ‘Don’t Call Me Angel” and it ends abruptly because I never finished or I don’t know what happened. But here’s a snippet of a TA!Ashton as an art teacher.
Might have to add this to my list of WIPs to finish if it gets good reviews. Let me know what you think :)

Ashton has always felt things so deeply. He loves deeply, he rages deeply, he sympathizes deeply and he plays his drums with everything he’s got. He tries to keep his emotions in check but they change like the tides, even he finds it hard to keep up with them.
Ashton lives, breathes and sweats creativity. His passion is seen in his brush strokes, his despair is shown through the negative space of his photographs. Long hours spent in the dark room and sometimes endless nights painting on large canvases in his studio apartment has given him the cliché brooding artist look; dark circles under his eyes complete the look.
When he’s not in the dark room or his apartment he frequents the coffee shop that is the perfect halfway point between his familiar places. It’s called Java Bean and serve the best iced coffee Ashton has ever tasted to tell you the God honest truth and the shop is a literal godsend for being open twenty-four hours.
Ashton’s insides are made of caffeine, paint and a constant ebb and flow of pulsating thoughts and phrases that won’t leave his mind unless he writes them down in his sketchbook. That’s another thing Ashton can never leave the house without, his sketchbook.
It’s large, black and hard covered even though the spine has long since lost the potency of its glue causing it to lie open like a cracked crab. It’s filled with his thoughts, lyrics he can’t get out of his head, small sketches of flowers or images he sees late at night when he dreams (when he gets a chance to sleep).
The book is his vice and he would rather die than ever part with it for Ashton is a closed book with every person (aside from his three best friends) but he opens up fully between those pages.
For his last year at University he’s the TA for his favorite art professor, Miss Dooley who is the perfect amount of scatter-brained and genius. She calls every student ‘pet’ and always has incense or essential oils burning in her classroom.
It has been Ashton’s wish and dream to be an art teacher for high school students, to help those like him who want to stay in their shell reveal who they truly are on the inside.
“Hello, my pet,” Miss Dooley trills in her usual sing song voice as Ashton enters the large art classroom.
He inhales the acrylic paint, the fresh wood waiting to be turned into canvases and the waxy aroma from the oil pastels stowed away in a cupboard. It’s one of his favorite smells in the world, the mediums just waiting to be used and Ashton’s fingers twitch in anticipation to create.
“Hey, Miss D,” he grins making a beeline to her desk at the front of the room. Behind her on the charcoal colored chalkboard is her name in calligraphy with broad strokes of curves and flowers.
‘Advanced Art Multi-Medium’ is written in block letters below her name as well.
“Excited for this year?” she asks rolling around a small was of blue putty in her hands. She claims it keeps her fingers and joints from failing so she’ll always be able to make art.
“Yeah, does it look like we’ll have a good class this year?” he taps the pads of his fingers on the black resin tabletop, a habit he’s always had when he’s anxious.
“Oh, I think so,” she beams her robin’s egg eyes twinkle. “It’s a full class this year, which I have you to thank for my little chickadee.”
“Me? What do you mean?”
“You’ve been the best student for the past six years you’ve been here, my prized pupil and a very handsome fella if you don’t mind me saying.”
Ashton feels the back of his neck heat up from her sentence full of compliments. Surely he’s not the reason for a full class this year? That’s ridiculous.
“I don’t think—“
Before he could finish the double wooden doors swung open and a flood of college students entered and Ashton couldn’t help but judge the first few that came in. He recognized three of the girls in front who were in Delta Zeta which he knew the only amount of creativity in their body was decorating photo backdrops.
Apart from them the rest of the class he’s seen hanging around the art wing of the school and at some of the showings he was at. At the rear was one of his best friends, Michael Clifford who decided a month ago to dye his hair a deep purple again. Michael smirks at his friend as he takes a seat next to a petite girl opening up a small black notebook.
Ashton let out an exasperated breath through his nostrils at his friend who did not tell him he’d be taking this class.
“ . . . Twenty- three . . . and twenty-four. Excellent! We’re all here!” Miss Dooley claps her hands together and moves to the front of her desk to smile sweetly at her pupils. “I recognize some of your faces but welcome to Advanced Art! I am Miss Dooley and this young man next to me is Ashton Irwin who will be my aide for this year. Would you like to inform them what this year will consist of?”
Ashton clears his throat then steps forward to stand next to Miss Dooley but ends up leaning his back against the counter behind him. He wanted them to see he was relaxed.
“Hey everybody. This year will be about using different mediums and creating something great out of them and also finding your niche in your art. Every class you’ll have five sketches of a landscape or a self-portrait or anything else that catches your eye. If you don’t have a sketchbook I recommend getting on.”
Every eye is on him and he is making a point not to look anywhere near Michael in the back. He clears his throat again before continuing.
“Your final exam for the first semester will be the beginning of your portfolio which will show the progression of your ‘voice.’ When—“
“Our voice?” a platinum blond of the Delta Zeta trio asks with her hand in the air, a confused pout on her glossed lips.
Ashton folds his arms across his chest, the leather of his jacket squeaks from the motion.
“Each artist has a voice in their work, a certain style that is all their own. That’s why when you see the blurred colors of a lily pond you know it’s Monet or the small pointed brush strokes and vivid colors of Van Gogh. Art is a voice for when you don’t know what to say, you can convey so much emotion into it. By the end of the year I want to be able to tell who’s piece is who’s, that’s how prominent it needs to be.
“If you don’t think you have it in you or won’t rise up to the challenge of being vulnerable, then I suggest you drop the class. Some people really want to be here and create art, I don’t want you to be deprived of that.”
He stands there eyeing each and every person almost daring one of them to stand up and walk out. A motion of a hand raise catches his eye in the back, he thinks it’s Michael and is ready to kick his friend out if he makes a rude comment. But it’s not Michael, it’s the girl sitting next to him.
“Yes, pet?” Miss Dooley calls on her.
“How many pieces should be in our portfolio?” she asks in a gentle voice but with sureness behind it.
“However many it takes to find your voice,” Ashton answers her. She nods then bends over her notebook to write furiously on the page.
“Well, since no one has jumped ship, let’s start off with a little exercise. Turn to the person you share a table with, introduce yourself and sketch them while you get to know each other. You will be each other’s buddies for the semester. Begin, my pets,” Miss Dooley claps her hands together again and all the students shuffle around for pencils and paper.
» » » » »
It’s a Friday night and Ashton is sitting in his favorite booth at Java Bean with his sketchbook out and earphones in to block out the small chatter of other college students. His first week of class as a TA went really well, a lot of the students showed promise. To his amusement Michael’s first sketches were of the little succulents he has scattered about his apartment.
Ashton was pleased that they took him seriously and Miss Dooley always offered her help and guidance to those who had questions. None of the students had approached Ashton but he was fine with that, he’s still learning by watching Miss Dooley interact with them.
Ashton’s hazel eyes landed on Michael and Calum approaching his table as he sipped at his black coffee. He licks his lips watching them approach with shit eating grins on their faces and he reluctantly removes his earphones. He closes his sketchbook with a soft thump, slightly glaring at his friends. They know better than to interrupt him while he’s drinking coffee and immersed in his sketchbook.
“Hey teacher,” Michael snickers pulling up a chair from the next table over. He slumps down in it with his fingers twiddling in his lap while Calum spins the chair opposite Ashton around and straddles it.
Calum pulls his dark gray beanie down lower over his ears then rests his chin on his elbows.
“Can I help you with something?” Ashton sighs leaning back in his own chair.
“Luke’s throwing a party tonight,” Calum begins, “a back to school rager, if you will.”
“Good for him.”
“C’mon Ash,” Michael whines leaning forward on his knees. “Come party with us like old times.”
“You mean like when we were freshman and your head caught fire?” Ashton quirked his eyebrows up.
“We were young and dumb then,” Michael waves it off. “Come on, it’ll be great. The girl I sit next to in your class will be there.”
“And?”
“What girl?” Calum pipes up.
“And she’s cute,” Michael shrugs, “and it will be fun for you to get out of your little hermit hole you’ve set up here.”
“I dunno guys. I want to get up early tomorrow to take some photos of the waterfall. In my photography class I’m doing a series of different locations throughout the seasons, and I think the—“
“Yeah, yeah, we get it,” Calum interrupts holding his hand up. “Just . . . come hang out with us before you get neck deep in your work, yeah? Just for a few hours.”
Ashton rolls his eyes then sighs before giving in.
“All right, fine. I’ll come.”
“YES! The Ash Man is back!” Michael hollers clapping his friend on the back and the other customers turn to look over in irritation.
“You’ve never called me that,” Ashton says gathering his stuff in his shoulder bag, “and don’t start now.”
The party was like any other party Ashton has been to in his college career, granted it is a bit tamer than when they were all freshman and sophomores. For the most part everyone had their clothes on which relieved Ashton. He hated having to try and wrangle whoever it was to get their clothes back on.
The townhouse was stuffy with vape smoke making the air foggy, beer and liquor filled his nose and he felt the music course through his body.
“Hey, you brought him!” Luke exclaims with a large smile. His arms are raised bringing Ashton in for a tight hug. “Glad you’re here, buddy.”
“Thanks man,” Ashton says tousling the younger guy’s golden curls.
“Drinks are in the kitchen, but I think I hear a shot of fireball calling your name,” Luke wiggles his eyebrows dragging the guys into the kitchen.
“I haven’t had fireball since New Year’s two years ago,” Ashton chuckles.
“Ashton! Hey!”
His head snaps when he hears his name then wishes that he hadn’t. The voice belonged to Breanne Thomas, a girl he used to hook up with on and off a few years back. She was even the model for some of his photography assignments.
“Oh, hey, Breanne,” he nods politely then shuffles past her into the kitchen. He did not want to relive old times with her at the moment.
“Yikes, sorry, mate,” Calum says handing him a shot glass filled with the golden liquid.
“Whatever, let’s cheers to a new year,” he shakes it off holding his glass up in the air. They all clink and down the shots heartily. Ashton remembers the burn as it travels down his throat and into his stomach.
As the night progresses he becomes pleasantly buzzed and that’s when he knows to stop. He just stumbles out of the bathroom when he hears his name being called and looks up to see Michael waving him over near the back of the house to the backyard.
Ashton pushes through the bodies, waves of weed swirl around his head and it’s so strong he’s sure he’ll get a contact high from it. When Michael becomes more in view he notices the girl from his class standing next to him.
“This is Lennox Hastings,” Michael introduces with a loopy smile. “Lennox Hastings this is Ashton Irwin. Our teacher. My best friend.” A small hiccup escapes him.
“Hi,” she smiles shyly at Ashton, “And it’s just Lennox. You don’t have to use my last name Michael.”
“It’s a badass name, Lennox Hastings! I have to say it all. You should show him your notebook, he’s got one too. Oops, I’ve got to go. Bye!”
He skirts away into the crowd and Ashton shakes his head at his drunken friend then turns to Lennox who now looks oddly familiar now that he knows her name. Apart from seeing her in his class he swears he’s seen her somewhere else before, but where? Or did she have a twin?
“I’m sorry you’re stuck with him as a table partner,” Ashton apologizes and she laughs lightly.
“He’s not so bad. He’s fun to talk to when I’m not working.”
“How’re you liking the class so far?”
“It’s good, I’ve been looking forward to it since I got here, actually. I was in all advanced classes in my high school and I’ve heard how amazing Miss Dooley is.”
“Yeah, she’s great,” he smiles then glances around at their surroundings. There’s a couple making out against the fridge and Ashton realizes it’s Calum and some short blond haired girl. “You wanna step outside? Get some fresh air?”
“Yeah, that sounds good,” she smiles opening the door.
Ashton picks up two water bottles from the bucket on the counter then follows her into the warm August night. The screen door swings shut behind him, he inhales deeply and sits on the gliding bench besides Lennox.
“Thanks,” she says taking the water bottle from him and takes a sip. “This isn’t weird, is it?”
“What isn’t weird?”
“Us being out here? You’re basically my teacher,” she laughs nervously.
“Nah, I’m just an aide. I’m not a teacher yet,” he grins at her.
Now that he’s not inside the house with loads of distractions all around, he can finally get a good look at her. She looks familiar for some reason now as he stares at her in the yellow porchlight. Her auburn hair is pulled up in a half ponytail with some fly aways clinging to her round cheeks. Her eyelashes are long atop her doe eyes and Ashton finds himself wishing to see what type of blue they are and if he could paint them.
“You’ll make a good one,” she says pulling him from his wandering mind.
“Ya think?” he leans back and rocks the glider back and forth slowly, it creaks and groans as he does.
“Yeah, you control the room well and I can tell how passionate you are about art.”
“Thanks,” he says sheepishly. He’s never been able to take compliments well, whether it’s about his art or himself. “How’re the rest of your classes going?”
“Okay so far, lots of work already in my poetry class and advanced art,” she gives him a sly smirk and nudges his ribs playfully with her elbow.
“You write?”
“Mhm. Wrote a lot this summer, great inspiration,” she says grimly.
“That’s good, right? I’ve heard writers block is shit.”
“It is.”
“So what inspired you?” he turns his body so he’s angled towards her more.
Lennox shakes her head, a piece of hair clings to her lip and Ashton desperately wants to pull it away.
“I don’t want to bore you with my heartbreak, Mr. Irwin,” she says.
“Please, call me Ashton,” he grimaces at the title. “I’m an artist, too, remember? Heartbreak makes the artist.”
“You already know it, though, the cliché story of girl meets boy. Girl falls for boy and they date and commit but then the boy gets a record deal and leaves girl behind.”
“Wait,” Ashton sits up straighter when he heard record deal. “You aren’t talking about Harry Styles, are you?”
“You know him, huh?” she says airily.
“Yeah, we don’t get along very well. At all, actually,” he chuckles.
“How come?”
“That’s not important right now. I’m sorry he hurt you.”

Your whole life was an instance of mental breakdowns and running on caffeine induced autopilot. Your eyes were burning, probably bloodshot as you stared blankly at your laptop. Sitting in a dark room with the screen on full brightness, 'that's how you'll go blind' -- you can hear your best friend ranting about it now.
As you reached into the Cheetos bag that sat on your table, you dreadfully realized that you were completely out of them. You sighed, laying your head on the cool desk to think. You wouldn't be able to continue without feeding your addiction; but it was late.
Glancing at the clock on your laptop, the little numbers read 3:52am.
The only place that was open was the little convenience store located a couple blocks away. It was a privately owned shop named Greg's Place -- sounded more like a weird frat club to you. You'd go there frequently during finals week, it was kind of a sign that the stress to maintain your 4.0GPA had arrived.
You pushed yourself away from your desk and stood up. You were dressed in loose sweats and a black t-shirt that was much too big for your frame and quite frankly you looked like a slob but -- who cares? It's finals season, you had an excuse.
You slipped on a pair of shoes and grabbed a fuzzy jacket that was hung up beside your door. It was getting chilly, especially at night and since you were walking, you'd get much colder.
By the time you reached the little shop, you were regretting exiting your house. This was the most you'd been out of your house in the past week and it'd only been 10 minutes.
The little ring of the bell alerted the worker inside, which you assumed to be Youngho -- a middle aged man who you'd had the pleasure to know over the course of his 2 years working. He was a terribly boring fellow and you were positive he was going senile, not that you minded -- he didn't judge you and that's what was important.
You made a beeline for the aisle you knew contained what you were looking for; Cheetos. Just for kicks, you decided to grab the Flamin' Hot kind along with the original -- spice things up a little. You grabbed an extra monster and coffe since you were here. You were well stocked at home but more definitely wouldn't hurt.
As you made your way to the counter, you blew a stray strand of of hair that fell out of your bun from your face. You placed your things on the counter and that's when you noticed. You noticed the fact that Youngho was not the worker that was behind the counter.
No.
You wouldn't be that lucky!
While you were standing at 4am looking like the devil had drug you to hell himself, there was an incredibly good looking man about your age sitting on a stool. His eyes were glued to his phone screen and he hadn't even acknowledged the fact you were standing there.
Usually, you would have held your tongue and perhaps it was sleep deprivation, the caffeine, or maybe both mixed with your sudden racing heart -- but you spoke to him.
"Shouldn't you not be on your phone with customers in the store?"
And then, without missing a beat or even looking up from his phone...he spoke.
"File a customer service complaint, Cheeto-Girl," You nearly bristled at the name he called you before you realized the fact that his voice was fucking hot. It was deep and melodic, holding a calm and slow tempo to it. Then, he finally looked up, placing his phone on the counter and you got a look at his face; dark bangs hanging in sharp cat-like eyes and incredibly soft, pink lips. You licked your lips subconsciously at the sight, watching how he scanned your items and god, his hands! They were the kind of hands that were meant to be wrapped around your thigh in the car or wrapped around your
throat
while he --
"₩16,000.00," He spoke, sounding unbelievably bored. With trembling hands, you pulled out your wallet. You felt impossibly small underneath his intense gaze and you couldn't help but think he found you a complete idiot. This idea was solidified by your final moments of interaction with the hot guy.
You thought you had handed him the correct amount, naturally. Then, as he handed you your receipt, you made
physical contact
with his hand and you felt like you were going to throw up -- he was so warm and he smelled so good. So, you quickly scrambled to grab your bag and haul ass out of the shop but he called after you.
"Wait--"
"Keep the change!" You whined, chancing a glance back at him to see him shrugging and shoving the extra bills in his pocket. You were pretty sure that was illegal but you didn't care as you tucked tail and booked it back home.
-----You wanted to spend a nice lunch with your best friend and try to forget the fact you had embarrassed yourself and that the hot guy probably called up his friends to make fun of you after his shift.
But as you relayed your story to Junkook, his wide doe-eyes fixed on you as you spoke. You felt your cheeks heating up as you revealed the way you actually ran away from him and Jungkook had the audacity to burst out laughing.
It took him far too long to pull his shit together and look at you with clear eyes again. It took him even longer to be able to respond to your story of pure shame;
“So, what you’re saying is,” Jungkook took a liberal sip of his bubble tea, obnoxiously gulping the liquid as you glared at him from across the grated table. “You made a fool of yourself?”
“You’re such a jerk!” You cried, resting your head on your arms as you folded them beneath you, trying to block out his giggles that erupted again.

The moon was full, casting light over the outside world along with the normal glow of the city. You felt the lull of sleep biting at you and you stared at your empty can of Java Monster sighing. You needed to go get some more before you ended passing out before you could complete your self made study-guide.
Giving in, you pushed yourself off the chair and made your way to the front door.
The walk to Greg’s felt disgustingly short and sure enough, just like you feared, Mr. Hot Guy was behind the counter. Maybe you’d at least get his name today, you thought.
You placed your items on the counter, having thrown an extra bag of Cheetos in the mix.
“Hi,” You ventured, standing awkwardly as Mr. Hot Guy stared at his phone screen still.
“Hey there, Cheeto-Girl,” He replied, once again not veering from the device.
“My name is _____,” You offered and this time, he looked up.
“Min Yoongi,”
You mentally did a little happy dance -- you got his name!
However, your excitement was cut short when he scanned your items and it was time to hand him the money. Anxiety kicked in and before you knew it, you were overpaying him...again.As much as you would have loved to not make a fool of yourself again, naturally you couldn't even do that.Attempting to take the change resulted in physical contact with him, making you jump and before you knew it change was scattered along the counter making deafening noises in the otherwise silent shop. The look in his eyes was almost dead, staring blankly at the coins on the counter.“K-Keep the change!” You squeaked and, once again, tucked tail and booked it.
You were such a coward!
You’d dated guys before -- plenty in fact! But there was something about Min Yoongi that had your heart racing and you were pretty sure he saw you as nothing more than a weird girl who shows up at 3am to get Cheetos and coffee; just a wreck. Then again you were positive you'd never even seen a guy as hot as him in your entire life.
What was a girl to do?

One thing was for certain in your life; and that was finals sucked. You felt the mounting strain of stress on your shoulders and you could barely get through a practice question without tearing up in frustration. You had bottled it up and now it was ready to burst.
Perhaps a break would help.
The second you stepped outside, you felt the relief wash over you as the cool night air touched your flushed skin.
You took your time walking to Greg’s Place, wanting to extend your break from studying for as long as possible.
The shock of seeing Min Yoongi working had long since passed and faded from your system. However, the heart palpitations his stupidly good looking face and careless aura gave you were still very much alive. You collected the things you usually got but also added a nice little bag of M&Ms to your list.
When you get to the counter, Yoongi is for once actually ready at attention behind it, eyes burning holes into you as you placed your items down. You, however, couldn't be bothered to even form a smile, just watching blankly as he rang up your items.
You pulled out your wallet, ready to pay when he suddenly slammed his palms down on the counter, leaning close to you.
"Alright," He sighed, shaking his head to get his bangs out of his eyes, looking straight at you with sharp eyes. "What's the matter?"
"W-What?" Your wide, startled gaze met his stern one.
"Something's bothering you," He stated, leaning onto his elbows now.
"How do you know?" You asked, poking your bottom lip out in a pout -- trying to make yourself seem more cheerful than you felt. He seemed to see right through it, however.
"Usually you're a stuttering, cute little mess," He scoffed and rolled his eyes. "Now you're dead-eyed and...sad. It's gross."
You completely missed the fact he called you cute as you found yourself in a crying fit. Yoongi's eyes widened as he watched the tears travel down your cheeks, at a loss of what to do.
"Wh-Hey, no...don't cry, come on," He rounded the counter, heaving a sigh and awkwardly patting your back. It was almost laughable how bad he was at comforting you.
"I'm s-sorry," You sniffled, wiping your tears away; it was futile as more simply took their place. "I always make such an idiot of myself!"
"Huh?" Yoongi leaned down to look at your face, moving some of your hair out of the way to get a look at you.
"Y-You're cute and you make me nervous and every time I come in here I end up doing something silly like overpaying, dropping the change, running away, and now I'm crying in a convenience store at 3 in the morning!"
"We'll come back to the fact you called me cute," He chuckled, making your face heat up at your own slip up. "Don't worry, I know finals suck."
"How did you know it was finals?"
"I have a friend in college, he's been grinding like hell to prepare," Yoongi shrugged, shoving his hands in his pockets. The mention of finals had your eyes tearing up again, which made him flounder once again. "Alright, look, how about I take you out and we can stuff ourselves silly, huh?"
"What about the store?" You asked, straightening yourself up now that you'd stopped sobbing.
"Ah, I don't give a fuck. I hate working the night shift anyway," He leaned over the counter and grabbed the keys to the store. "I know a place that's open at this time."
The place Yoongi took you to was just down the street from the store. He opened the door for you, the inside of the building smelling deliciously of bacon and syrup.
"Choose a seat," Yoongi commanded, waving his hand around the small restaurant.
You decided on a booth that was situated in the corner of the place, free from prying eyes and away from windows. To your surprise, there were a few more people inside, enjoying some late-night breakfast food; the scent of this place had you stomach grumbling eagerly.
"There's a menu," You mumbled, realizing there was already one sitting on the table. However, Yoongi didn't make any move to try and look over the menus, making you raise your brow at him in question.
"I'm here pretty much every night, I know what I want," He explained with a shrug.
"Night shift is pretty brutal, huh?" You chuckled, eyeing the breakfast platter on the menu; your mouth practically watering at the idea of that delicious bacon.
"Oh yeah, I used to just work the day shift," He fought down a smirk as he began to tell the tale. "I may have made a post on Twitter about him when Greg came to inspect and he put me on the night shift as punishment."
"Something tells me, this isn't going to make you stop posting on Twitter," Your words drew a laugh from him, giving you a glimpse of a cute gummy smile and you swear your heart stopped.
"Absolutely not,"
"Hey, Yoongi," A deep voice brought your attention to a tall bespectacled man wearing a red apron. "The usual?"
"Yeah, thanks Seokjin,"
"And for the lady?" Seokjin flashed you a charming smile as he waited for your order.
"I'll just take the House Special Breakfast, please," Seokjin nodded, smiling softly as he wrote down your order. "And orange juice to drink, please,"
"You got it," He tucked away his pad and patted Yoongi on the shoulder. "It'll just be a minute."
"Thanks," Yoongi mumbled, giving Seokjin a small smile before he walked away.
"Do you know him from your nights here or..?"
"Actually, we run in the same friend group," He replied with another casual shrug.
"Here you go, you two," Seokjin returned quickly with the prepared food, placing your plates down in front of you.
The two of you ate, making small talk. You were surprised how absolutely not-intimidating he was; from his sharp gaze and sharp tongue when you met him shortly behind the counter, you had the impression he would be terrifying. But now that you witnessed him laughing and joking, you could see the spark of life in his eyes.
"So beside eating Cheetos and studying until you cry, what other things do you do?" He asked, chuckling when you rolled your eyes.
"I go to convenience stores at 3am frequently," You responded cheekily, making him squint playfully at you. "What's your hobby?"
"Well, I like to make music," He seemed almost sheepish as he replied, ducking his head down. "It's a kind of expensive hobby so I work at the convenience store to make money. Producing underground only pays a few bucks...only enough for a package of noodles."
"I think that's really cool," Your words seemed to surprise him, his head shooting up to look at you. "I'm so absorbed in schoolwork I can't even enjoy my major anymore. It's really nice that you're following what you like even though you don't get much money for it."
You could swear his cheeks were dusted pink up to his ears at your words. But before you could really get a look, he was standing up, tossing a few bills on the table as tip.
"I'll pay, you go wait outside," He turned his back to you, shoving his hands in his pockets again. You didn't bother arguing, your college student ass needed to save any money you could.
"Let me walk you home," Yoongi said once he joined you outside. "You can't live far, right?"
"Correct," You folded your arms over your chest, tucking your hands under your jacket to keep them warm as you walked.
"It was really cool that you agreed to come out with me," He said, once you two stopped in front of your home.
"Thank you for taking me out," You could feel your face heating up at her met your gaze. "Even though I consistently make a fool of myself."
"I think it's endearing," He grinned, showing his gummy smile again.
"I think you called me cute earlier,"
"Hey," He turned his head away to hide what you assumed was a blush. "You called me cute too."
"Me and my loud mouth," You mumbled. "But...do you...want to come inside?"
"Sure," He replied quickly before he realized how fast he was. "I mean...I already closed the shop so...I'll need a place to hide when Greg comes hunting for me."
You laughed, the way he said 'Greg' sounding particularly hostile. You opened your door, allowing him inside first. When you stepped in, he was already shedding his jacket and hanging it on the coat rack as if he owned the place. He seemed oddly comfortable, not that you minded. You watched him as you shed your own coat, he peeked into your kitchen and living room, giving a small nod of approval.
"So, what do you want to do now that you have me vulnerable and alone in your apartment?" He asked, wiggling his eyebrows suggestively.
"Wh--" You squinted, rolling your eyes but cut yourself off from engaging. From the look on his face, he was probably jumping at the opportunity to make fun of you. So you gracefully turned on your heels and began to sprint up the stairs, knowing he was hot on your tail.
"Oh, so this is your hermit hole?" Yoongi tucked his hands in his pockets, looking at the mess that was your desk; textbook, laptop and notebook open with pens and highlighters scattered around.
"Don't call it a hermit hole," You whined, flopping back onto your bed with a huff. "It makes me feel like a loser,"
"Hey, don't feel like that," You felt the weight shift as he sat beside you on the edge of the bed. "It's really great that you're tryin' so hard. You're gonna get far in life, better than me anyway,"
"Yoongi," You sat up and placed a hand on his back, comforting. "You're doing what you love. I'm just studying when in the end my degree won't mean shit and I'll end up having a shitty office job in corporate,"
"Why do you do it then? Why don't you do what you want?" He asked, looking at you face to face now.
"Mostly to make my parents happy, to be honest," You admitted, shrugging one of your shoulders halfheartedly.
"Hmm," He leaned back on his hands and looked up at the ceiling. "My parents...threw me out after finding out I wanted to pursue music. I could barely afford to live properly let alone actually try to get an education, I spent a couple years living on the streets. I managed to get a few gigs to produce a track and got some money; I used it to buy clothes and get an interview at Gregs."
"Holy crap," You mumbled, shaking your head in surprise. "You're doing well now though?"
"Well enough," He mumbled. "Things are a lot better than they used to be, that's for sure. I had a couple friends who lived on the street and I kind of had to take care of them...Taehyung and Hoseok. They managed to get jobs and better they lives and so I did the same. I'm certainly not rolling in the cash but I got a little apartment, clothes on my back, and food to eat. That's about all I could ask for,"
"What if Greg fires you!?" You cried, suddenly remembering the fact he shut the store down to take you out.
"Honestly," A small smile played on his lips as he looked at you. "Greg likes me more than he lets on, he won't fire me. I've charmed my way into his bitter little heart,"
His words had you laughing, tossing your head back while he smiles.
"Can I kiss you?" The abruptness of his word cut your laughing short to stare at him wide-eyed. He was staring at you as if he hadn't just asked to kiss you, instead looking like he had just asked what you had for breakfast. Quite the bold man.
"Y-Yes?" Your response came out choked, still not fully over the shock of his sudden proposal.
His fingers were warm and a little rough as he cupped you cheek, angling your head so he could easily slot his lips against yours. His lips were incredibly soft and the few guys you had kissed in the past were nothing compared to the skillful way he pulled you into the passion. You allowed him to ease you onto your back, laying beside you as he continued to kiss you, lightly nipping your bottom lip before he laved over it with his tongue. You clenched your thighs together, feeling a pressure settling in your core the longer he kissed you.
"You're so pretty," He whispered as he pulled away, licking his lips as he gazed down at you; his pupils were blown wide and you could feel the faint hardness of his member against your hip.
He was getting turned on too.
"Yoongi," You whispered, leaning up to brush your lips against his as he hummed in response."Can I...suck you off?"
"Holy shit," He choked, flopping onto his back beside you, covering his face with his hands. "Fuck yeah,"
You felt excitement flow through you and you forced yourself to not fist pump the air in victory. You shuffled your way between his thighs, the both of you scooting up the bed to get comfortable. You reached up, holding your breath as you unbuttoned his jeans, already feeling the way he was steadily hardening beneath the fabric of his jeans.
He spread his legs to make more room for you as you tugged the waistband of his boxer-briefs down enough so his cock popped out, slapping against his stomach.
He wasn't completely hard yet but the sight of him already had your mouth watering. The tip was a pretty pink and a vein on the underside; when you wrapped your hand around the base of him, he let out a soft sigh of pleasure. Giving him a few experimental squeezes, you could feel him harden the rest of the way, his thighs trembling at the pleasure. You couldn't hold yourself back anymore, you needed to taste him.
The tip of his cock was like velvet on your tongue, warm and a slightly bitter taste of his precum melting on your taste buds. As you swirled your tongue around his tip, his fingers tangled in you hair with a groan.
"F-Fuck, sensitive there, baby," He nearly whined and you could have creamed your panties right then and there at the sound. You didn't torture him with over stimulation, instead taking the head of him into your mouth, sucking him generously to hear his moans. At the urging of fingering in your hair, you took him deeper into your mouth. He wasn't incredibly long but the thickness of him was causing your jaw to ache already. The thought of having him stretch you out, coating him in your cum had your cunt clenching painfully around nothing.
You whined around his cock, making him stiffen and groan, biting his lip to keep himself a little quieter. You could feel how his hips twitched faintly, as if he wanted to thrust into your mouth but was holding himself back. Relaxing your throat, you allowed him to slip deeper -- your gag reflex fought a bit but you managed to sink down to the base. Tears trickled down your cheeks but Yoongi was in bliss, tugging at your hair and groaning as you swallowed thrice around him before pulling off.
"Fuck!" He growled, sitting up suddenly, fist wrapped in your hair before he pressed his lips to yours to share a sloppy kiss. "One day, I'll fuck your throat,"
The idea and tone of his voice had you gushing into your panties; the promise of a next time making you squirm.
"Will you let me return the favor?" He asked, voice deep and dark in his words. "Will you let me eat your little cunt?"
"F-Fuck," You whined, his hand that was in your hair traveling to your neck to push you onto the bed.
As he took his position between your thighs, he reached behind himself to tug his shirt up and off his body. Your eyes soaked in the sight of his lean body with pebbled pink nipples that you longed to wrap your lips around to test the sensitivity. You lifted your hips when he tucked his fingers into the waistband of your sweats, pulling them down along with your panties.
"God, so fucking pretty," He growled, dropping onto his stomach and hissing when his cock was trapped between him and the bed. You spread your legs for him, tucking your hands beneath your thighs to expose your soaked slit to him. He groaned, using both of his thumb to spread the glossy lips of your cunt, hissing when you gushed. Any self control he was trying to exhibit snapped his tongue was suddenly sliding into your entrance to taste you. You cried out, tangling your fingers in his raven locks; his hair was incredibly soft you noted through your haze.
Yoongi was way too fucking good with his mouth, swirling his tongue around your clit and sucking the little bud into his mouth. You were trembling, your back arching in pure pleasure as he very abruptly introduced two fingers; sliding them into your clenching hole, making your nearly scream at the feeling of
finally
being filled. He seemed to know exactly what to do to find your g-spot, crooking his fingers up, making your hips arch as you whined.
"Ah, right there?" He cooed, lips detaching from your clit for a moment to watch his fingers fuck you. He spread his fingers, making you groan as he stretched you out.
"Yoongi, please," You whimpered, tugging his hair. He took the hint and kissed his way up your body to meet your lips; making you taste yourself as he slid his tongue into your mouth. His fingers didn't stop abusing your sweet spot, making you whimper into his mouth.
"Fuck," He groaned as he pulled away from you. "Can I fuck you, babygirl?"
You nodded, eyes rolling back in your head as he gave your spot one last stroke before pulling his fingers out.
"Use your words, sweetheart," He cooed, squeezing your cheeks between his fingers, making your lips pout.
"Y-Yes, please fuck me,"
"Good girl,"
He slid off the bed to shed his jeans and underwear; you took the hint and sat up to rip off your shirt, leaving your completely nude on your bed.
"Such pretty tits," He groaned, cupping one in his hand and pinching the nipple generously, taking the moment to indulge himself.
He climbed back onto the bed, grinning when you immediately spread yourself for him. Slowly pumping his cock, he got himself comfortable on his knees. Once he was situated, you sat up on your elbows to watch the way he spread your folds with his cockhead. You sighed in pleasure as he brushed against your clit, lightly slapping the bud to watch your thighs jump.
Finally, you couldn't take it anymore and reached down to wrap your fingers around him, directing him to finally sink into your entrance. He didn't stop you, following your lead and sinking into you until your hips were flush together. The girth of him stretched you to the point it burned, making you whine and moan. You clenched around him, arching your hips to fuck yourself on him.
"Fuck," Yoongi cursed, leaning over you to support himself on hands beside your head. He watched the way you ground up against him, your eyes rolling back into your head at the pleasure. "Dirty girl,"
Finally, he took over, pulling back and slamming himself back in, barely grazing your cervix in the process. His pelvic bone abused your clit every time he sheathed himself inside you. The way he caught your g-spot with every move had you tumbling incredibly fast to what you knew would be a mind blowing orgasm. Your thighs were threatening to close to save yourself from the overstimulation you were beginning to feel.
Yoongi, however, was having none of it. Strong hands gripped the backs of your knees and forcefully spread your legs, leaving your soaking cunt vulnerable to the torture his cock put on it. Your eyes filled with tears, your mouth falling open; you were teetering on an edge that you'd never felt before; he was going to make you cum without having to touch your clit.
It was becoming too much, the coil inside you winding tighter and tighter but not releasing. Your hands pressed against Yoongi's chest to slow him down, but he only grinned and grabbed your wrists with one hand and pinned them above your head.
"Fucking take it," He growled, leaning closer to you to make you look directly into his eyes. "You're gonna cum all over this cock, babygirl, go ahead. Give it to me,"
With him staring into your eyes, watching you, you finally came undone. You tossed your head back but Yoongi tangled his fingers into your hair to force you to look at him again; his hips never stopping as he fucked the forced orgasm out of you. Your walls spasmed and gushed, covering him with cum that he'd love to taste one day. The sight of you cumming so hard for him sent him off of his own end and suddenly, he was pulling out of you before he came inside.
However, having him pull out so suddenly had your orgasm flying to new heights and before you even realized what was going on, the both of you were being drenched in more of your cum as you squirted. Yoongi cursed, using the head of his cock against your clit to keep your squirting as he came messily all over your cunt. You couldn't take anymore and reached down desperately to stop him, trembling all over from the pure force of pleasure you had experienced.
As you were coming down, Yoongi leaned over your exhausted body and kissed you lazily. Neither of you really moved your lips, just enjoyed the feeling.
"You wanna shower?" He asked, voice breathy from his own panting. You peeked out of one eyes and saw the tiny smile on his lips as he regarded you.
"L-Let me...rest for a minute..."
"Damn, fucked you that good, huh?" He asked, growing visibly cocky.
As much as you didn't want to boost his already apparently inflated ego, you couldn't help but admit it with a nod.
"I don't think anyone's ever made me cum like that," You admitted, looking down at your body at the complete mess that covered your skin; both his and your cum.
"The first of many, babygirl," He promised, making you shiver.
If he could fuck you like that every time then you would be a very happy girl.
"Seriously, this cum is starting to dry so let's shower," He grumbled, rolling off the bed to stand naked before you.
"Geez, you're so pushy," You mumbled, letting him pull you to your feet no matter how much like literal jelly you felt like.
"I think you like me being pushy,"
"Don't hold yourself so highly,"
"I knew the second you looked at me, you'd be smitten with me, babe,"
"H-Hey! Me smitten with you?!"
"Don't worry," He cooed, wrapping his arms around your waist to kiss your nose. "I'm pretty smitten with you too,"
"Aw," You giggled, looking up at him through your lashes.
"...Cheeto-Girl,"
"Hey!"

Clizzy Coffee shop au
Clary loved her job at Java Jace. When she started college, she didn’t think she would find something that so perfectly worked with her schedule and gave her enough money to actually live while being a student. She met Jace at the bookstore, overhearing him complain about the ridiculous price of campus coffee. When Clary agreed, her tired mind telling her she needed a cup more than she cared about the cost of it, Jace told her about his coffee shop.
Clary was skeptical at first. What kind of college student owned their own business? But they walked there together and Clary’s taste buds exploded with the first drop of their freshly ground coffee. Jace explained how his brother and him opened the shop together, using their sisters scientific genius to create the perfectly roasted coffee bean. Clary wanted to disagree but her mouth was salivating for another sip already.
He offered her a job and six months later, Clary was wiping down the countertops of Java Jace a few minutes before closing. She heard the bell chime at the front door and resisted the urge to roll her eyes. She looked up with the fakest of smiles on her face and saw the most beautiful woman she had ever seen.
“We’re closing in two minutes,” Clary said reluctantly as she pushed her hair behind her ears. “I can make you a coffee to go, though!” Clary offered as she gestured toward the menu. The woman smiled as she walked up to the counter. She leaned onto it, her eyes roaming the menu while Clary’s roamed her face. She honestly couldn’t believe how beautiful she was. She thought her mouth had watered the most it could at the coffee she tasted six months prior…
“What do you recommend?” The woman asked, tilting her head as she glanced at Clary. Clary blushed under her stare and shrugged. The woman chuckled and Clary realized it was kind of her job to recommend something off of the menu. She backtracked quickly and shook her head to clear it.
“You can’t go wrong with the Lightwood’s Light Roast,” Clary said as she put the bag of coffee grounds on the counter. The woman nodded her head as she read the bag.
“What do you like about this one?” Clary’s eyes widened having not been prepared for more questions to be asked of her. She thought for a moment before grabbing the grounds and measuring them out. She put them into the maker and started it as the aroma overtook her senses. The woman perked up as the smell reached her own senses.
“Well, it was created by Jace’s sister, who I quite frankly believe is a genius by any measure,” Clary started. The woman nodded with a smirk on her face and Clary decided to keep going. “She somehow figured out the perfect time to roast the beans so that they’re still smoky, but not overwhelming to your senses,” Clary gushed as the coffee machine beeped. She poured two cups, pushing one to the woman before taking one for herself.
“Cream and sugar?” The woman asked. Clary gasped in mock offense as she pulled the sugar away from the woman.
“This coffee is too pure to poison it with such things,” Clary said. She smiled when the woman laughed and held up her mug in cheers. Clary touched their mugs together and took a small sip, closing her eyes and humming as it burned down her throat. She opened them to see the woman watching her. Clary was about to say something when she heard Jace’s voice behind her.
“Izzy! You’re here!” Jace yelled as he hopped over the counter and pulled the woman into a hug. Clary had the embarrassing realization that Jace’s sister was standing in front of her. “I see Clary took your order!” Jace noticed as she sniffed at her cup of coffee. “You’re drinking the light roast? With no cream or sugar? Did she mess up your coffee order or have you changed since the last time you graced our presence?” Jace teased as he stepped away from Izzy.
“Your barista, Clary, is it?” Clary nodded as more of a blush found its way to her cheeks. “Clary is quite brilliant at her job. Convinced me that the creator of this coffee was a ‘genius’ and successfully got me to drink coffee two dollars more expensive than I intended,” Izzy commented with a wink in Clary’s direction. Her blush darkened as she pulled her apron over her head and walked around the counter.
“My shift is over and the cafe is successfully ready for closing. You can handle that, right, Jace?” Clary stuttered as she backed to the door. She ran out without an answer, hoping that was enough for Jace to fire her. She never wanted to face Isabelle Lightwood again.

7 Tips for Making Great Iced Coffee
Summer is finally upon us and most days are just too warm for hot cup of java juice. Below are some tips to help you make a great iced coffee.
1. Start with fresh coffee beans. A great iced coffee was never made using stale beans so avoid buying your beans on sale. If you don’t drink iced coffee often, consider buying fresh beans at a coffee shop where you can buy only the amount you need for the occasion.
2. Test the taste. Hot coffee tastes different than cold coffee. So to get an idea of how your coffee will taste cold let a hot cup cool to room temperature. This little test will help you decide what tastes perfect to you.
3. Use fresh ice. Ice has a tendency to get a stale if it sits in the freezer unused for too long. If you’re wondering whether your ice is helping of hurting your iced coffee, it’s easy to test: let a few cubes melt and come to room temperature, then taste the resulting water. If it’s water you would want to drink by the glassful, you’re in good shape. If not, toss out the old ice and make fresh. If it still tastes stale, buy a bag of ice, the cost is worth the boost in flavor.
4. Brew it strong. Brew your coffee on the strong side as it will be weakened by the ice. To keep from diluting your drink, try turning your leftover coffee into ice cubes. Use these in the place of regular ice cubes to keep your drink chilled.
5. Try a cold brew. Some people object to acidity in their cold coffee. Cold brewing greatly reduces the acid content of coffee (with the same coffee it will lower the acidity one full pH point vs. hot brew). Put 3/4 cup ground coffee in a quart Mason jar, fill with water and stir. Cap it and put in the refrigerator for 12 hours. Strain the resulting concentrate through a coffee filter to remove the grinds. Add water to taste when you’re ready to drink. You can even heat the reconstituted beverage for a quick, low-acid cup of hot coffee.
6. Don’t use burned coffee for your iced coffee. Saving leftover coffee for iced beverage is often fine, but don’t be tempted to use the dregs of a burnt pot. If it doesn’t taste good hot, it definitely won’t taste good cold.
7. Add some zip to your iced coffee. Adding fruits like strawberries, oranges, blueberries or even cherries and spices like nutmeg, cinnamon or cardamom are a great way to perk up your drink and your day. The important thing is to have fun with it! Try lots of new things. Vary your usual routine. The worst that can happen is you won't like it. You can always try something else!
If you’re short on time and don’t have a stash of reconstituted coffee available, try this recipe using instant coffee.
Vanilla Iced Coffee
2 teaspoons instant coffee 1 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract 2 teaspoons cold water 1 1/4 cups milk Chocolate shavings (optional) Sugar (optional)
Directions:
Put the first 5 ingredients into a blender.
Pulse blend until the ingredients are smooth and frothy.
Add the cold milk and pulse blend until all the ingredients are blended well.
Pour of a few cubes of ice, add the chocolate and voila!
If you desire, add the ice to the blender after the first five ingredients have been blended and crush the ice and then add the milk and mix.
