Can we have a birthday Derek drabble please? *pleading face emoji*
Stiles pushes back from his chair. “Dad, I think we’re gonna head out. Thanks for dinner, Melissa!” He hauls himself up and starts telling everyone goodbye when John stops him.
“Wait, wait, hang on.”
He disappears into the house and comes back with a small package, wrapped in simple blue paper, which he hands to Derek, looking a little sheepish.
He unwraps it carefully and finds a stunning young woman, who looks so much like Laura but isn’t, staring back at him from a plain black frame.
“I, uh. Remembered this picture from when we were kids. Did some digging and found somebody who still had a copy. It’s not the best quality, but. It’s a good picture. That’s exactly how I remember her.”
“She’s beautiful.”
Derek feels his eyes sting a little. His mom was always the one who made sure they celebrated his birthday, special and separate, never rolling it into Christmas or letting everything run together.
“Happy Birthday, son.”
He lets John wrap him up in a hug, feels Stiles squeeze in behind him and wonders how he got so lucky to find a family again.

Not me thinking about Miguel taking care of you during a migraine attack 🥺
He would be so soft and caring because he understands. There would be no downplaying of your symptoms, no “Why can’t you just take some painkillers?”, no “Stop being so dramatic!”.
He would notice the first signs even before you do. He may not be in possession of *the* spidey sense but when it comes to special senses about you, his abilities know no limit.
And while you still try to argue that it might just be a regular headache and anyway you should try to get as much work done as possible before you are no more use to anyone, he has already picked you up to carry you to a quiet and dimmed place.
Which is usually his room. And even though it is the darkest and most silent room of the station to begin with, he still scans the vicinity for potential noise makers. Not even Lyla dares to disturb you when Miguel starts to take care of you.
In addition to placing a bucket right next to the bed, he meticulously covers the pillows in soft towels. It’s not that he fears any accidents should you have to throw up, it’s just that he knows how much you worry about making a mess.
In case you do have to throw up, he gently holds your head while giving you the softest of back rubs. If you have long hair, he’ll carefully brush it out of your face and put it into a protective style that doesn’t add to your pain.
Even though he knows how hard it is for you to drink under these circumstances, much less eat anything, he always has a tray with water, tea and your favourite snacks nearby. He knows exactly how frequently and how much of your medication you need to take and makes sure that you do so.
Despite your protests he puts away any electronics and devices that require you to look at a screen because he knows how much they would aggravate your condition.
He gently places a damp cloth over your eyes and regularly checks whether it needs replacing.
As soon as you start to shiver, he wraps you up in a fluffy blanket. If you start to feel too hot, he’ll get some fresh and cool blankets instead.
Though no blanket can match up to him, of course. He’ll snuggle up against your back ever so slowly and carefully, always checking whether he might overstimulate your aching senses with his need to take care of you. Slowly letting his hand caress up and down your arm in the most gentle and comforting manner, he somehow manages to hold you just as tight as you need him to.
Sometimes, when even the softest of hugs by him are too much for you, he’ll just lie down next to you and hold your hand, drawing soothing circles on its back with his thumb.
When the pain becomes so unbearable that you can’t stop your tears from falling, he does his best to comfort you, holding you and mumbling soft and soothing words. Reassuring you how brave you are and how he is there for you and how he is going to watch over you.
And as you finally fall into an exhausted sleep, already knowing that you are going to wake up feeling so much better, you can’t believe how loved you are 🥺

Because of current frustration
Happy fuck spiderverse year.
The art direction is in part ableist.
You can enjoy the movie and still say that.
Note: it's ableist because it's using common animation and color choices KNOWN to cause seizures (and death) in audiences. This includes people who don't have epilepsy.
I will never not be bitter about this because the first movie message was about "anyone can wear the mask" when it clearly was excluding people by simply making it impossible to watch this film in a safe manner.
If you got a headache after watching that film. That's a photosensitive reaction and it means you're not immune to these effects. A movie you love should not give you a headache or dizziness or disorientation. It should not give an above average amount of people seizures.
And those effects causing these symptoms should not be hailed as the reason the film is good.
Spiderverse utilises other aspects of comic art to already stick out.
Rapid Glitch effects, large bright high contrast red and blue areas covering the screen, prolonged moving patterns, and flashing lights are not what make this film look good.

One of our greatest joys at Movie Health Community is when we get to share good news about a movie being safe for photosensitive audiences. With that in mind, we have a proposal based on what we’ve already been doing for almost 8 years: Publicly-posted photosensitivity advisories on every film. Not just the ones that have objectively dangerous strobe effects, but also a prominent notice when a movie is safe to watch.
Admin Brandon put such an advisory at the beginning of his first original short film, Leech, and it felt like an actively positive step to take, an assurance for the audience that nobody would have their photosensitive health issues triggered while watching. Shown here is a screenshot of that advisory.
Let’s take a moment to recognize the safe movies. So far in 2023, the safest movies for photosensitive audiences have been:
Cocaine Bear 80 for Brady Are You There, God? It’s Me, Margaret Book Club: The Next Chapter Air Champions Fool’s Paradise
Image ID: A screenshot of a pre-movie advisory shown at the beginning of Leech, in white text on a black background, which reads: This short film has no strobe light effects, and is safe for audiences with health issues related to photosensitivity. | Trigger warning: vomit. | Evaluated for potential health hazards by Movie Health Community

So, in the fic where Tim gets his appendix out, Jason tells him that he usually freaks out before he gets put under, not after. Now that Tim knows, how would he comfort Jason? I'm thinking, like, imagine that Jason breaks his leg badly on patrol, so urgent surgery is in order. Would Tim try to prevent him from freaking out? How?
P.s. i said i a thousand rimes bur I love your works!! You're amazing!!
Ooh so I've actually answered a similar question pretty recently (although that was focused more on the needle aspect than the anesthesia/loss of control aspect which I headcanon to be Jason's main issue with being put under)
Honestly? I think Tim would be the worst family member to try to comfort Jason through something like this. Not for anything that Tim is doing right or wrong, just because anesthesia is something that really freaks Jason out, and his response to being freaked out is a) to angry cry, and b) to lash out at people. Because he knows this about himself, and he's also extremely protective of Tim, he tries not to let Tim see him when he's not fully in control of himself. So while Jason would totally be great in a crisis involving Tim, he does terribly when the roles are reversed.
BUT that being said, if Tim was the only one available, I think Tim would end up offering his hand to squeeze, and Jason would hesitate at first but eventually take it. He'd probably also be trying really hard not to cry, which Tim would very intentionally act as through he wasn't noticing because at the end of the day, Jason needs his dignity more than anything.

My head hurts, it hurts and it hurts. There is a raging sea where my stomach should be. My vision is dark at the edges, getting fuzzy, fading in and out. Then it’s gone. The pain, the confusion, the torment, gone. I am falling, gently being wrapped by darkness. Something blinds me and I am snapped back into my body. Everything aches again. I look up and see panic in my mother’s eyes. “What happened?” Whispers through my lips touching my ears that were miles away.

when are you gonna see the new spiderverse?
it's not set in stone or anything, but we're aiming for sometime within the first week of its release if we can afford it!!
(on the note of spoilers: i Strongly Prefer to not be spoiled, but they won't like. Ruin My Life or really even my Day, i just would prefer to not be spoiled cause it's. like. a dick move, y'know? thanks. love yall)
#talking tag#asks#atsv#across the spider-verse#generally movies r a luxury we have to wait a couple months after release 2 see but i have been waiting for This One for Five Years so--#--it is a very VERY special treat :}#...even if they did For Some Reason decide that THE best color to flash wildly during like. Every Mig Scene is Give Cap Migraines Yellow.#foolish fool fools. if you wanted to reference the end of Issue Number One you need a PALER more DESATURATED yellow or a red/black gradient#in fact pushing the Paler Colors would work a lot better to contrast against him in a properly colored BLACK AND RED SUIT. LIKE THIS DESIGN#sheesh he lives in The Bleeding Neon Future but they pulled Future Inspiration from one of those boring sleek white smooth round shape guys#Nueva York in the comics wasnt meant to be a Cool Future it was meant to be half-criticism of Modern NYC by ppl who Lived There--#--and the other half was Speculation abt what it Could Be if Nothing About The World In (e616s) 1992 Changed For 107 Years#(...dot dot dot. comma. As Written By Overwhelmingly A Bunch Of Middle Class Cishet White Comic Book Guys[TM]. LMAO)#(the good stuff is GOOD the fun stuff is really REALLY fun and the Bullshit in comic book fashion offers up new writers to KILL On Sight <3#look man im just. im rambling at this point but like i love marvel 2099 i think there are absolutely Some books that ARE worth reading--#--from the imprint and dismissing All Of It just for being 90s Comic Books is unfair to the many teams of people who worked on them yknow#i Do Not Like Pat Mills (MANY reasons.) but the initial art team behind Punisher 2099 (especially the penciler) put SO much passion into it#people only really remember Spider-Man 2099 today but e928 has a really rich developed lore that i get the sinking feeling we;ll probably--#--never actually See Again in any of the same capacity that it once existed at. but. yknow. time passes & things change & that's.. fine.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023)
This is a Movie Health Community evaluation. It is intended to inform people of potential health hazards in movies and does not reflect the quality of the film itself. The information presented here has not been reviewed by any medical professionals.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has extensive use of extreme strobe effects surrounding sci-fi happenings. This includes sudden glitching flashes, and giant machines that produce colorful and harsh strobes. All of the opening production company logos (of which there are at least 6) are covered in the glitching effect. The lights on police cars also create extreme strobes frequently.
There is a lot of action at high speeds and extreme heights, with plenty of disorienting camera angles and maneuvers including rolls and swinging. Multiple scenes take place with no consistent sense of up and down.
Flashing Lights: 10/10. Motion Sickness: 10/10.

We're The Sonic Underground
No matter how many times he spoke on the matter, the deadpan stares drove him insane. So many eyes on him just made his blood pressure rise to the point where he could feel the budding headache that was quickly followed by an alert next to his leg. One hand reached out to comb through the toddler's bangs to quell her worry that he knew.
There wasn't much he could do about it, not when the gathered Freedom Fighters looked at him like that.
Light sighed.
"I get it. I really do. From everything you remember, I don't expect any of you to actually believe that Robotnik used a device to shift our timeline in a way that was in his favor." Ignoring the glare from Sonic that came with a loud enough scoff to interrupt him, the former soldier merely rolled his eyes.
Until they fell on the metal medallion around the hero's neck. Despite a second alert from Gibbous, Light stood and closed the space between himself and Sonic. Before the other could really react, metal fingers surrounded the necklace and yanked him to his feet.
"Hey! What the Fuck!" Sonic moved to shove Light backward but found his hand grabbed and turned to take hold of the medallion. The instant gloved fingers graced the surface, there was a flash. It filled the room, blinded many and Light was forced back. But he was smirking as the light faded.
Tumblr media
"Wha..." A sound of awe came from the room as Sonic carefully held the three-necked guitar as if it were the most natural thing in the world. Those emerald eyes stared at the instrument before lifting to meet mismatched topaz.
"How... How did you do that?" Light rolled his eyes at the hedgehog's accusatory tone.
"I didn't do shit and you know it. That's all you hero." Maybe his tone could have been better, but the budding headache was building and Light knew it was only a matter of time before it took him out of commission again. Gibbous was relentless at pawing on his jeans now. But he couldn't give up and gestured towards the guitar.
"Play it."
The two stared at one another for a moment, then another. It looked as if Sally was about to intervene when finally, one string was plucked. Then another, and one more. Before anyone else could tell what was happening, the hero just began to play a song that none of them recognized.
None of them, but Light. He sat back down and crossed his arms. Those in the room couldn't take their eyes off Sonic as he played. Lost in a trance until he finished and the guitar disappeared in another flash of light. Now all eyes shot to the former soldier.
"I... remember..." Sonic's voice wavered. "Sonia... M-Manic..."
Sally stood up as the rest of the hero seemed to follow suit with his voice, looking to Light with one question. "How do we fix it?"
"I wish I had the answer to that." Finally looking down where Gibbous was pawing at his leg, he took the handkerchief in her mouth and brought it to his bloody nose. "We're going to need to access Robotnik's network and see if we can find the answers there."
