2023 Fall Anime

This is honestly a loaded season full of new shows based on relatively new manga. Lots to look forward to

Spy x Family - Season 2 One of the most fun SJ series that have come out in a while. Season 1 was killer, high hopes for season 2.

Goblin Slayer 2 I didn't realize they were even making a second season. This was such a killer series. I'm really hoping they don't fall into the many mid-tier fantasy tropes out there in anime right now. I thought the appeal of the show was really Goblin Slayer himself and less about the lackeys along the way. So we'll see how it goes.

Frieren: Beyond Journey's End This is definitely one of my highly anticipated series. It's about an elf who was part of the Hero's party and her life after he dies. (Since elves live longer) Definitely a darker take on fantasy but has some really solid fantasy and adventure vibes.

Rising of the Shield Hero - Season 3 Season 2 was pretty disappointing and slow. While this looks like it'll be more fast paced, it does look like a tournament arc of sorts. I know some aren't a fan of that kind of arc, but honestly I think it's exactly what this series needs to pick things up again. We'll see.

The Faraway Paladin - Season 2 This was legitimately one of my favourite fantasy series. I thought it was really well written and didn't rush things like other series. I'm looking forward to this season.

Sequels/Continuations: Eminence in Shadow - Season 2 killer series with an anti-hero main character. Definitely worth checking out. After-School Hanako-Kun Hanako-kun spin off Dr. Stone Season 3 - Part 2 One of the best novel concept series with nothing else in it's genre to compare to. Definitely didn't drop the ball on the recent seasons and still worth watching. Dead Mount Death Play - Part 2 One that I didn't particularly enjoy, but has a decent sized manga following. Tokyo Revengers - Tenjiku Arc The continuation of the series. Might be just me but it feels like the series fell off after the first season. The Saint's Magic Power is Omnipotent - Season 2 A more mature take on fantasy isekai that just started to get into romance at the end of last season. A solid combo of shoujo genres. The Ancient Magus' Bride - Season 2 Part 2 One that I haven't had a change to check out yet but have only heard good things about. Hypnosismic - Season 2 a weirdly addictive musical/rap series. Unique characters and honestly solid rap battles. One I'll be enjoying. -- Related - Paradox Live - Music battle with what looks to be the same style of animation and solid character design. Definitely worth looking at if you're a fan of Hypmic. The Seven Deadly Sins: Four Knights of the Apocalypse A sequel of SDS. Looks like it could be a fun watch for the fans of the series. New:

Shangri La Frontier A new manga fantasy series. This may be a horrible way to describe but it is what it is - a new age SAO- full dive fantasy game. A gamer who only plays shit games, gets into a new massively popular MMORPG and is op. One that I'm excited for because it ticks all the fantasy game boxes I like.

Undead Unluck A relatively new manga series that gained a lot of traction in the last year or two. A gory action comedy that's super chaotic and a lot of fun.

Shy Brand new hero manga series about a shy girl and her anxieties and struggles going into the hero world who grows and gains confidence as she becomes a better hero.

Ron Kamonohashi's Forbidden Deductions This is a manga series that I have kept forgetting the name of so never got a chance to read but all the covers for the manga look phenomenal. Likely the anime doesn't do him justice but it is what it is. Essentially sherlock in anime form. A PI with issues and the wholesome police detective work together to solve crime. Other New Series: Green - Fantasy Pink - Romance Red - Action Purple - Drama The Kingdoms of Ruins A world where witches were hunted down by humans as science surpassed magic. A kid who was raised by a witch swears revenge on mankind. This honestly looks solid. The animations are very cool looking and the mc seems to be an anti-hero. Will be looking at this one. Under Ninja A well known manga series about modern ninjas. Definitely a unique series for this season. The Apothecary Diaries A historical medical mystery show. I've heard the name before and I've also only heard good things. Will be worth a watch. A Girl & Her Guard Dog The granddaughter of a crime syndicate goes to highschool out of town and the current young boss lies his way into the same school. Would be cute romance if it weren't for the fact she's 15 and he's 26.. Butareba - The Story of a Man Turned into a Pig What the title says. A girl finds him and the story goes from there. I'm Giving the Disgraced Noble Lady I Rescued a Crash Course in Naughtiness The usual light novel title. Honestly, doesn't seem as yikes as I initially thought, might just be harmless breaking the rules kinda thing. Could be fun, also a Capybara that strikes fear into people's hearts. My Daughter Left the Nest and Returned an S-Rank Adventurer Looks like a wholesome series where an adventurer finds a baby, raises it and she becomes so strong she's busy working all the time. Just a cute father daughter relationship in a fantasy setting about her wanting to come take time to see him but being caught up in OP fantasy battles. Ragna Crimson Dragons vs Humanity - a human and a dragon team up to destroy all the dragons. Action fantasy series. Berserk of Gluttony I honestly added this because I thought it was hilarious. Looks like a combo of knock offs - the Gluttony skill from Tensura (reincarnated as a slime) and the mc being called Fate with the main girl who looks exactly like Sabre. I'll be skipping but its' here so you know.

pages 31-39

I'm gonna be honest, I'm not a fan of this turntechGodhead kid. In yesterday's pages he said he didn't want to talk about either the movie John likes or the game John wants to play, today he tells John he sucks at using his inventory and then doesn't tell John in advance that his strife specibus allocation is permanent. Which all combined makes him seem like kind of an asshole. It could just be part of their friendship dynamic, but because we haven't seen any other kind of interaction between them yet, I'm not seeing anything to like about TG.

That out the way, I'm really enjoying everything that's happening both with John and in the medium of the comic. John continues to be an easy character to connect with when he 1. looks at all the cool shit in his own room, 2. has trouble with the basics of picking things up and putting them down, and 3. feels an emotion and immediately changes his instant messenger status to tell the world. The scrunchy frustrated face he makes on page 36 is my favorite face of his, it's shown up a few times now and it is Homestuck's equivalent of a laugh track.

Being able to mouse over the games in John's CD tower on page 31 is so cool, it really adds an adventure game feel to the comic. I know that a good chunk of these games are references to the author's previous works, but there's also the Ghostbusters II MMORPG, the Little Monsters Nintendo game, and Harry Anderson Call My Bluff! all of which seem chosen to tell us that John's taste in games is about as good as his taste in movies (yet another trait that makes me relate to him). Really hoping we get more of these semi-interactive elements in the updates to come!

The concept of a strife specibus kind of comes out of nowhere here - I get that it's like equipping your video game weapon, but why would John get into combat in his day to day life when his current obstacle is learning how to open a book? I'm curious about what context it'll get used in, and I love the detail on the 'kind abstrata' card on page 37, listing all the different possible specibi. These pages are coming out pretty fast, but the amount of content on each page is also really high, which is impressive.

Too much to even keep track of, especially if we count games that have been on pause for months or games I played only for like an hour but want to pick up again.

I generally enjoy the things I play more often than not but if I had to pick out something that stands out as surpassing my expectations or being particularly enjoyable to me then I think it would be all the multiplayer stuff I have been doing with my sisters in games like Age of Empires 2.

7. A series you’ve lost interest in?

Let's just say that I don't expect Bethesda to ever make another Morrowind.

8. A game location you really like

Practically everywhere in Elden Ring. I think aesthetically a lot of the places there look amazing to me. I especially like Caelid since I'm a slut for unwelcoming and inhospitable environments.

I started Touhou with Imperishable Night and think that might be the best starting point for it still. You could make an argument for Embodiment of Scarlet Devil instead but that one is both jankier and more difficult. IN makes a better first impression I think.

It depends on the type of game and the tone it is going for. I generally prefer stylized aesthetics in most situations, though.

The honest but boring answer is that it was probably some cash-grab mobile game or a game too technically incompetent to really work at all.

56. Multi-player or single player?

Generally single player. A lot of the things I like about CRPGs rarely ever seem to be possible in games with multiplayer options, and especially not in MMORPGs.

It's kind of a shame because a non-linear and co-op RPG I could play with just a couple of friends and with a focus on sandbox simulation and a high amount of player freedom would be my personal aphrodisiac. I have played a couple of games that sort of approach that idea but never quite to my taste.

I guess I have tabletop RPGs for that kind of thing but I would really like it if they made something like Mount & Blade, Elona, or Cataclysm:DDA with just 2-4 players all sharing the same world. Wartales is one of the games I know of that most closely resembles what I'm looking for.

Had to look up what royale high is but seems like a fun detail to the headcanon! Because it's a headcanon any silly reason is good as the rest, and that kind of dress up game isn't actually that far from my personal way she finds out.

It's hard for me to overstate how much I absolutely love pale EriKan. It is god's gift to me and me personally, I love it so much. Kanaya being Eridan's moirail would mean she absolutely gets used as a model for dresses. That modeling of femme presentations would be the core way that Eridan first feels a kind of gender euphoria, extremely important to a character that never smiles (in talksprites she only ever really sneers, it is a stretch to call those smiles). And from there, Kanaya would be able to notice the things that make her moirail genuinely happy and pacified and just generally at peace with herself which just ung so cute this is why I love you transfemme Eridan. In whatever alternate situation that allows Eridan to live for the meteor journey, it would allow Kanaya to fulfill her destiny of hatching an egg twofold, meaning both the matriorb, and ironically, Eridan.

Anyways, I figure Eridan to be more a typical grand strategy, 4X, RTS-RTT wargamer girlie. My headcanon for Kanaya is closer to Royale High, in that she would play more "casual" fashion/dress up games. Moreover, she'd play ones with competition mechanics but not very robust ones that she gets SUPER MAD about them not being robust or realistic. It's not like her lack of technological knowledge is a core part of her character, her needing Sollux's tech support is pretty insignificant in the grand scheme of things, but I do like to think it's because she's not really aware of the limitations of computers to understand fashion the way she does. But she gets really, jade-in-the-face, cursing-at-the-screen mad when her well thought out outfits are disliked by the digital judges.

If Eridan doesn't find out she's trans by playing Royale High, Kanaya is definitely liable to get her to play it with her after she finds out and starts wanting to define her own feminine fashion sense. Engaging with the premise a little more, having talked about Nepeta and roleplay recently, I also like to think Kanaya brings her along because the only other person that she's able to get to play with her is Nepeta and she's really only there for the RP part, and is very much "oversized trenchcoat" level of fashion. Kanaya introduces Eridan to the game only to discover that her fashion taste is just as bad when it's feminine as it is when it's masculine. But, she still likes that it makes Eridan happy, and does her best to translate Eridan's awful in game outfits to more fashionable ones outside the game. Plus, it aligns with roleplay being the way Eridan is able to shed the masculine legacy of the orphaner.

As a capstone to the whole thing, I think the Royale High idea is nice because headcanons are just more fun when they're in the spirit of Homestuck, and this trio playing it would be a fun little parallel to the battleship journey's Ghostbusters MMORPG.

I used to play an mmorpg in this twitch streaming guild. And I was more of a lifeskill player, I enjoyed cooking and farming rather than fighting, but my guild saw that I was really good at running dungeons and did really high DPS despite my lower combat skill levels due to my fighting style. So they started pushing me to go on dungeon runs with them, because if I got some leveling boosts, I would be DEVASTATING in combat.

Anyway, my guild leader was taking me and the second lowest leveled character into one of the end-game elite dungeons for the first time, escorting us. But at the entrance of the dungeon, he LEAVES the dungeon and the party. And me and this other guy are like...confused. What do we do. Did he leave on purpose? After some moments of contemplation, we decide, maybe he left because he thought we could do it ourselves, and was messing with us? (He was known for doing that quite often.)

So we are like...Okay. And continue on in the elite dungeon without him. Because we had faith in our guildleader, and he did not message us telling us otherwise, to leave, or anything.

We end up tearing through the dungeon with relative ease. The boss was a bit difficult, but we figured out a trick, and killed the boss too.

When we left the dungeon, my guild leader was HORRIFIED. He apparently assumed we would have realized he DCed and left on our own, which is why he didn't bother to even tell us he DCed. He was in SHOCK that we managed to beat the elite dungeon by ourselves.

Here we are coming out of there all proud of ourselves, going hey, Alex, we did it! And he's like you did WHAT?! Frantically checking over us and wondering how the hell we weren't dead. It still cracks me up. (Seriously, why didn't you just message us when you got back on??) I think he was a little afraid of us after that, because these two little twerps did a dungeon on his level which was such a vast gap

Endwalker: A Retrospective (1/2)

Final Fantasy XIV's most recent expansion "Endwalker" has been a big point of conversation within the community for some time since its release back on December 3rd, 2021. It released to high critical acclaim as the summation of a ten year long saga within one of the most popular MMORPGs available on the market today. I want to look back at the long walk to the end before we blaze a new trail unto the dawn. As someone who's logged several thousand hours over the course of my journey throughout Etheirys I've finished many quests, ran a majority of the content (excluding Ultimates, in due time...), and met a wide range of folks sinking time into one of my favorite games. First off, we dive right into the Main Scenario Questline, hereon referred to as the "MSQ". Most of anything the expansion entails requires you to have conquered the arduous journey the game lays out before you. The production quality of the MSQ is well above where it started, and the increase in quality of the cinematic direction, the voice acting, and the narrative intrigue have all played into making Endwalker truly feel like the culmination of all that came before it. The emotional beats hit hard in some spots, and there's a good mix of light-heartedness in between momentous crescendos that act as a sort of palate cleanser to keep things from becoming strenuous or overbearing for an expansion story the length of a standalone single player RPG. I want to refrain from going into much detail in consideration of those players that have yet to complete the MSQ, but there were a few scenes that actually choked me up, and I'm not typically one to get emotional consuming media. Though that can be said for the base Endwalker MSQ, or the "6.0" content, there was something lackluster about the narrative that followed the climax that felt weaker in comparison. The quality is still there, and in some ways they showcased more of what I hope we get to experience in Dawntrail, however nothing about the more isolated adventure really had me buzzing off the same high as some of the previous post-patch story content such as within Shadowbringers or Heavensward. I do hope that we see some payoff in content down the line, perhaps in the next expansion or even further out, but as of now it felt like getting a lukewarm brownie as a dessert after eating a perfectly seasoned steak. That may seem a bit harsh, but I did still enjoy the brownie. On the topic of the endgame however, I must admit I'm speaking in near isolation since I was a much more casual player before Endwalker released. The encounters ranging from Extreme Trials to Savage Raiding feel really solid, if a bit intense at times. Raiding has been my primary focus in the game for nearly 2 years at this point aside from MSQ completion and it's been fun, but frustrating. Having done some of the more mid-tier content in Stormblood and Shadowbringers such as Eureka, Bozja, and Ishgardian Restoration, the options available to me in the post-patches of Endwalker seemed to amount to either Savage Raiding or using a spreadsheet to upgrade my Island Sanctuary which isn't my favorite kind of content by any means. I had no real drive to push through the new Criterion Dungeons since there was nothing they offered that I felt worth the hassle of pursuing, and Deep Dungeons have never been my favorite content so I've gotten little time in with the new Eureka Orthos. In the end, here just weeks away from Dawntrail's release, my biggest drive to log in is getting my alternative Jobs I've neglected up to the current max level, meeting new people through the more social aspects of the game such as visiting player-run venues, and running PvP activities to finish off my Series.

1. Are you named after anyone? 

I was adopted at 18 months and never met my biological mother after that so I have no way of knowing; my adoptive parents didn’t change my first or middle names. 

2. When was the last time you cried? 

I always cry during period week. And every time I watch Encanto. 

3. Do you have kids? 

Not yet! My husband and I do want at least one kid, though. Maybe two! Not yet, though. 

4. Do you use sarcasm a lot? 

Only for friends that like sarcasm. If I don’t know someone well enough to know their sense of humor yet or I know they don’t like sarcasm then I don’t use it around them. I enjoy it but it’s situational for me. 

5. What sports do you play / have you played? 

I was in marching band in high school, and when I was little I took ballet classes, though I didn’t stay in those long enough to graduate to pointe shoes. idk if those count as sports but that’s the only physical activities I did growing up. Nowadays I just do weights and jogging. 

6. What’s the first thing you notice about other people? 

Personality, vibe checks, & whether or not I wanna actually talk to them or just be polite and yeet out of there. 

7. Eye color? 

Greyish-blue! Sometimes tealish. It depends on the lighting and what I’m wearing. But usually a light turquoise blue-grey color. 

8. Scary Movies or Happy Endings? 

While I love classic horror and occult halloweeny things, I love fairy tales more, so happy endings wins! Also I dislike all the modern horror stuff that’s a bunch of gore and jump scares and violence. I prefer horror that’s 80s or older. But I love all fairy tale movies no matter when they’re made! 

9. Any special talents? 

My long-term memory is abnormally good. I can vividly remember back to kindergarten. However, my short term memory is crap. I’m always losing my phone. 😅

Playing Sims and being on Simblr (obviously) but I also like a couple MMORPGs that I play with my guild. I’m also in the choir at my Unitarian Universalist church, and I still play Flute and Bodhrán privately. I’ve been meaning to join a local drum circle but haven’t dedicated the time to that yet. 

12. Do you have any pets? 

Yes! I have 2 cats, Abigail and Tigger, and they’re mother and son! Though if we’re counting my mom’s & mi suegra’s pets as well then we have a total of 6 pets in the family. My mom has 3 cats, Little One, Midnight, and Dev (all are rescued strays ♡) and my husband’s family has a yorkie named Toby. 💕  and that puppy is mad spoiled they have baby strollers for him and take him everywhere! 😂 

13. How tall are you? 

In freedom metrics I’m 5′4″ 

14. Favorite subject in school? 

I always liked music / band the most! When you’re in marching band it consumes your entire life. The rehearsals are so long. But that’s where all my friends were so it was amazing. 💖 

15. Dream job? 

I flunked out of college twice, I’ve kind of given up on any type of careers. My husband is able to support us and I just get part time things when I’m able. Once we have kids I plan on being a stay-at-home mom, and if USA doesn’t fix the violence in schools problem we’ve been having by the time our future kiddos are ready for school I’ll probably homeschool at least the early elementary years. Though once the math gets too advanced for me to be able to teach I’ll need to look for other options ‘cuz I can’t homeschool the whole K~12. Hopefully we can get some kind of education reform by that time.

Winter 2024 Anime Review

Solo Leveling - 24 Episodes

This has been and will be my most anticipated series. We've only scratched the surface of the story and people are going nuts. I've been reading the light novel translations for a while now and I'm not even a little ready for when certain things are animated.

Easily one of the best anime adaptations out there. More to look forward to.

Sidenote - A1 is killing the animations considering it's one of their bigger ones in a while.

Also - they did a really solid job with the sound design, a lot of the timing made certain scenes feel just that much more intense.

9/10 - Amazing

Frieren - 28 episodes

Such a unique watching experience.

I think so many shows these days are fast paced, and action oriented, especially within the fantasy genre. This is such a relaxing and enjoyable watch.

The story is moving and the animations are warm and fuzzy.

Not much I'd change about the series.

10/10 - Masterpiece

The Apothecary Diaries - 24 Episodes

The second half of this series kept up with the flow of the first half really well. I feel like that shouldn't be a feat but it really is these days.

I genuinely love watching the subtleties of the romance in this series and the medical mystery cases are just as fun to watch.

The story has so many little bits and pieces working throughout the show and the last episode had me wrecked for reasons I never saw coming.

Just overall a big fan of this series.

9/10 - Amazing

Delicious in Dungeon - 12/24 Episodes

This series has no right to be this much fun.

The animations match the energy of the show so well and I think it's one of the best "entertainment" series of the season.

I was worried it would start to repeat itself but found that the characters become the highlight of the series and I looked forward to every episode.

(This is the series this season that I'm high-key obsessed with.)

Shangri-La Frontier - 25 Episodes

One of the most fun looking MMORPG animes I've seen. I remember reading the teaser manga a while ago and was stoked to see it animated. Just a genuinely well done gamer oriented series.

They do such a good job at showing exactly the kinds of small things gamers pay attention to and some of the combat learning is stellar.

Not to mention the sound track honestly did not need to go as hard as it did?!

Really hoping they continue on with this for another season.

Bucchigiri?! - 12 Episodes (Updated)

I haven't seen any coverage for this show for some reason. It's a one shot that Mappa animated. The story felt quite slow but I personally had fun with it, the character design was satisfying - gives a bit of Jojo's and SK8 vibes. After a few weeks I couldn't stop thinking about it and went back - it ends up being a decently satisfying story. It's rare to see single season shows and I think that was really refreshing.

(Opening and ending are both bangers)

Mashle - Season 2 - 12 Episodes

I decided to watch this once all the episodes had aired. I found that it's not one you can be in the mood to watch all the time, but when you are it's just as hilarious as the first season.

I've enjoyed the pacing of the story and I'm looking forward to future seasons.

Unwanted Undead - 12 Episodes

Another series I read the manga for when it premiered. There's something about this series that gets me hooked. While the animations aren't anything of note, I find the story is oddly unique and I ended up bingeing all the episodes in one go. Definitely one I'm curious to see where it goes.

Mr. Villain's Day Off - 12 Episodes

This is purely for my own personal interest in attractive moody villains with alter ego's. It's a lot of fun to watch and it's just so wholesome.

It’s been a while, so here’s some housekeeping.

Heya anyone who still pays attention to tumblr, it’s Lemon.

A lot has happened in 4 years.

I’ve switched jobs a few times, I’ve had to abruptly change the art program I use due to a software upgrade I never wanted but had to get anyway, I got into the critically acclaimed mmorpg everybody talks about now to the point that I’m a walking advertisement for it in my friend circles, and yet another poor little meow meow has given me year-long brainrot to the point of me joining a DND campaign where the majority of the PCs, including my own, are based off of him (the character in question being a certain Email Guy).

Due to the art program point above, I’ve had a pretty difficult time consistently finding motivation to create and post kink art, even on my twitter account. I’ve also frequently become far more active in select discord servers that pertain to my interests that aren’t kink-centered. That’s not to say I don’t have interest at all anymore, I very much do! It’s frustrating that my output hat to abruptly and radically shift, but it’s still going to take time for me to be able to fully adapt when the process feels so much like an uphill battle already.

So where do we go from here?

Well, I’ll first be spending a little while here vetting the followers I may still have here or random ones that have cropped up every now and then to make sure I’ve cut down on bot activity on my blog. I’ll also be combing for minors, as this is an adult space. I don’t want children of any type interacting with my output. I don’t care if you’re like 17 and out of high school and think you’re hot shit because you’re college bound or whatever. This is my space, and you are not entitled to be in my space if I don’t want you here. I’ve had both minors enter my space and try to use me as a replacement for therapy as well as minors lie to me about their age when I have explicitly expressed that I don’t wish to interact with minors. I’m not cool with either scenario. To me, both are grounds for permanently cutting ties with you.

Next, I’ll be slowly drip-feeding the art I’ve made but haven’t posted here (or anywhere besides discord, for that matter). There’s plenty of stuff I’d like to continue sharing and it’s becoming increasingly evident that this might be the site to go with in that case. If it gets flagged, I’ll just deal with it. I’d rather get things archived on a site that doesn’t fully delete my posts unless I say so, and I objectively hate the eclipse rework to dA and haven’t bothered with that site ever since my switch to the birdapp. 

Lastly, I want to make it clear that despite all of the changes that have happened to me over the years, things are still gradually in flux. I am in talks with friends to move to the midwest or perhaps the east coast early spring next year. It will be my first time moving away from my parents’ place. Gotta say, pretty nervous about committing to a moving plan, but it has to happen eventually and I’m fortunate enough to have the ability to decide when the time is right for me. All of this is to say that I’ll be prioritizing the steps I need to take irl to achieve the level of independence that I crave.

The show has university hostels rivalry, jock vs the beauties dorms, a pining boy! (it might be requited?) and is absolutely a pulp bl that is so nice so far! Plus it gives me lots of Hana Kimi aka To the Beautiful You manga / jdrama vibes with all the hostel stuff which i always love!!!

• Midnight Museum:

Off Attaphan, the things I watch due to you being in it 😭 While i definitely like the show a lot, i REFUSE to see it when the Sun is down especially with all the jumpscares. It's also very sus between Gun's character and the Museum owner right now.

• Love Syndrome III:

I started this because i saw a post where it had the post about the actor who apparently did kick boxing irl and also has some ok fighting scenes.

I'm still confused what exactly this drama is about though as I'm still on ep 1.

• LCK LoL Spring season: I mean it's not a drama so does it count? I mean i sit listening through 2+ hours of league of legends matches each day especially with playoffs so close so it's pretty fun, especially with the eng commentators! Plus watching T1 stomp their competitors with the whole team just cooking, especially Keria and his support picks and Oner with his Lee Sin and Faker with his Azir is just 😍😍 and SO much fun to watch!

This isn't a bl, but a really good cdrama with the lovely hot Yang Yang that is based on the hot chinese novel of the same name! Definitely a good watch if you're interested in esports or mmos in general!!

Also if you like gamers romancing each other in an mmorpg (het romance) i highly recommend watching loveo2o it's a pretty sweet watch, also having Yang Yang in the lead role, available on youtube with eng subs! Also has a movie adaptation of the same name.

• My School President:

Ah my beloved. I went in expecting a generic high school bl, but got a new comfort show instead. Which honestly is rare because till now I've only had 2-3 comfort series and movies because I'm VERY particular about me having something as a comfort show.

I do remember playing their official online MMORPG browser game for younger kids "Pocoyo World" ("Mundo Pocoyo" in Spanish 🇪🇸), which was now already defunct, years ago. 🖥️🖱️👶🌐 Using our customized "Pocoyize" character. *Sigh* Good times... 😌 Even though I'm 15 years-old (during my High School days), back then, but I could still play as a die-hard Pocoyo fan, at the time. 😊 And with his wonderful artwork of custom "Pocoyize" character, it reminds me of creating my own for the first time. (And I still have it, to this day) 😁

Happy Blorbo Blursday!

Today I want to hear about the inspiration behind your OCs. How did they come to be? You can answer for as many or as few as you like!

Thank you for the ask! 🖤 Many apologies for getting to it so late.

I am sure everyone is tired of hearing about mi hijo maldito by now, and he can either learn to share the limelight or give me prose, so I think I shall ramble about my older OCs instead.

This feels long to me and… personal? So I will toss it behind a cut. It seems the polite thing to do, but perhaps i am old-fashioned.

Firstly, the reason I picked up my pen at all on this side of Being An Adult: the glass cannon with many aliases of varying levels of creativity, Brynrinkeris — or Keris for short.

She was created first under a different name as an avatar on a hardcore roleplaying server in an MMORPG many years ago. I joined the server in a last-ditch effort to actually play and enjoy the game I was given - my then-partner and their guild out-leveled me on my poor frankencomputer very quickly and their FFXI play-styles were more intense, aggressive, and numbers-heavy than I prefer in my games. So I wandered among the storytellers to see what their world was like.

My therapist at the time made a wild suggestion on my second week “playing the same game but alone” - since I struggled with journaling for various reasons we won’t get into here, she was curious if that would also translate to imaginary journals. You know, a kind of running memoir for this character I’m playing with in a setting that’s so full of stories and choices. What if she were a real person? What would she think and feel about this broken world she’s moving in? What would she notice about the people around her, living their stories out in the open where anyone could see them, hear them? What would she - not me! - do if someone said Hi? What would she write about it later?

An interesting experiment.

For Science.

So naturally I did what anyone would do in the era of the early high-speed internet and I made a blog for an imaginary person in an imaginary world.

And then I handed off my gear to an alt and re-rolled her, thinking differently about the character choices this time. Not a cute swashbuckler because of pretty swords and tattoos, but a mage with elemental leanings (a preference which would get stronger as we went along together). I wanted to get to know the world of the game and the world the players had created within it, but I was so conscious of my outsider status, my fragile justification to be there, my ignorance of The Rules. I chose the female, dark-skinned elf avatar specifically because I was giving her a warrior backstory, the “good” city made my skin crawl in a way I couldn’t yet explain, elf because long ears pretty, and… well… I was already tired of crackerjacks back then. I built as opposite as the game and my own personality allowed. Then I took her memory away so that I the writer would not need to know anything we couldn’t learn from just playing the game.

I expected it to be a short and lonely experiment, running out the subscription clock and failing at yet another popular video game.

Ha.

Within a year she was the leader of a large neutral merc guild, had a very full friends list both in and out of character, and had forged alliances with several other guilds for regular raiding parties.

Frankencomputer The First died under the weight of the game files and chatlogs and the Shuttlebox was built to take its place. I didn’t realize how much writing with my friends had become part of - or perhaps the heart of - the game for me, until one night a stranger randomly tipped me money for a story we were telling in the tavern. I wrote a macro to scrape game command junk from the chatlogs and ran a few nights’ files through.

For Science.

Once I finished the scrape and manual deletion of stuff i couldn’t macro, I learned apparently Keris had taken us to a place where writing 30k words on an average weekend was normal. Without me ever noticing. Because you see - the journaling was still hard, but not as hard, and it hit in a different way. I thought I was struggling to manage three pages of fictional journal every week, but actually I was writing thousands of words of improv every night. No wonder my hands hurt. (Yes, my then-therapist laughed at me. I am not very smart.)

Anyway, I set aside some time in about… 2006? to answer the question of how much of this accidental mountain of story was beholden to the original game content that helped me find my voice again. Turned out that most of the direct references to the game could be swapped with a dozen other fantasy IPs with very little impact to the actual stories I and my closest collaborators were telling. While the game was very much high fantasy, high-stakes, binary heroes and villains… these stories were not. Even the proud leader of this mercenary company was a million shades of gray and far more concerned with the lives and happiness of her soldiers than the rise and fall of the citystates and factions they worked for.

I asked the (dangerous) what if question of what might become if I built a new world for these stories? A world that addressed issues I had with the source material and others like it? What elements would I need to keep and were they unique to that source or were they just… archetypes and tropes? What would happen if I freed my little cast from the confines of that borrowed world and dependence on other storytellers with time and spoons and a yearning for stories in compatible veins? Could I build something that big and sprawling and take any satisfaction in the result?

Thus, Dark Tapestry was born.

After Keris came all the people around her. Rokoval and Merezin, Fahlanin and Urg’Tak, Chryso and Serevhin and Airold and Cir and Pietor and Jaelle. Anyone and everyone Keris needed to interact with was (perhaps still is) in danger of Becoming Part Of The Cast the moment the narrative forced us to learn their Name and The Place And People They Come From.

Fahlanin il Rex the young and headstrong moonborn commoner is a great example of this: I really just needed someone to pole the gondola. Keris however, being an idiot(affectionate), tried to bribe the civil servant driving said gondola to drop her at a different location and pretend they’d never met. Fahl had opinions about this and within a few chapters she was pushing the plot around.

Davri came about because he had a stoneborn proverb to share in a council meeting where I was showing the Amicae guided by representatives from every culture in the then-known world. Keris made an offhand comment about relying on his advice and personal loyalty, so I pressed on that until she revealed why.

When I pressed her for where her little penchant for picking up oggish came from, given her otherwise fastidious behavior in personal connections, I discovered a delightfully bawdy and probably unprintable story in her distant past and the origin story for Hrrg’tk (moves-stone) The First Oggish Mage.

Not everyone in the stable descends from a tangle of what-if-and-why though.

A call for themed submissions from a small fantasy romance press led to me building Maleta, the protagonist and narrator of 9th Division. I actually worked up a proper character outline for her - mostly inspired by the submission requirements and research into the publisher’s range - a rough plot, and deliberately outlined with narrative roles instead of actual characters for the first pass. I went back into those bare bones with my worldbuilding notes open to flesh out the two Love Interests, the Surface Antagonist, the Red Herrings, the Unlikely Ally, the Mentor, the Expert, the Big Bad, the Victims, and so on. I chose a promising spot in the world timeline, a few Important Political Figures to mention in the city, and by the time I finished the manuscript I’d also brought in a couple of supporting characters from Keris’ stories (including a brief cameo by Keris herself).

And so you see some of OCs really are only inspired but such boring details as The Plot Requires A Farmer, where other OCs — especially in the fic I’ve written — are inspired by the equally boring but far more self-serving grounds of I want to read a story with a character like that.

Or both.

Prime example: Nialet. I needed a farmer very far from the center of power whom our favorite disaster king would trust with a delicate political situation, and based on what he values in the people close him, and a throwaway (ha) name and vague profile from another piece, voila. The longer I kept her around though, the more I liked her and wanted to know about her. I found i was interested in reading the kind if story that would center a narrative like hers, and thus Day Arising was begun. (Outline is done, and more prose than is posted, but life rather interrupted the fleshing-it-out-process. Hopefully I will get back to it soon…)

Plots or memes: Both. Memes are great icebreakers. They’re also great for flashbulb perspectives of ongoing interactions. Overarching plots are my jam; I love world building and character building, narrative details, themes...

Long or short replies: Whatever a) feels right and b) gives all parties involved something to work with and keep the scene moving. Admittedly I’m not great at replying to one-liners since my brain goes ‘DRESS THE SCENE,’ but hey, something to work on. :)

Best time to write: Quiet hours without any other pressing responsibilities. That can be... um. Whenever o’clock.
