Rivamika Fic Suggestions List 2

Hey there again! It’s been a while since my last rivamika post and I apologies for that. I caught the reading bug and have just been hitting book after book. I might be doing a book of the month suggestion starting in March. I’m still thinking about it but if that is something your interested in let me know. Or if you just want book suggestions just message or ask me. But for now, I’m back with my second Rivamika Fic Suggestions List.

First of all, I want to thank you for all the comments and messages I received from my first list! I think it has over 150 notes now which is crazy for me. I was going to be ecstatic if it got like 10 likes or something hahaha! I’ve enjoyed talking to some of you about fics and other snk stuff. Feel free to do the same after this post! I know I take awhile to respond but swear I get there eventually.

Same rules as last time. I’ve split this list up into four categories. I wanted to let people know the status of some of these fics in case they did not want to start an incomplete or in progress story. All of these fics can be found on AO3. I’m going to try to link them but we will see how tumblr acts today. If you have any fic suggestions for me, feel free to message me with them and I can add them on to the next list. If any author sees their story on here and wants me to take it off the list, please let me know I don’t wish to make anyone feel uncomfortable. Also, last thing, I highly recommend leaving comments and kudos to the authors. I know that they greatly appreciate it and it helps them with improving their writing through feedback. - Thunder Clouds

Sometimes I like to go to the very back of the Rivamika archive on AO3 and look for fics that have gotten buried over time. Low and behold what I have found lol! I enjoyed the emotional roller coaster when I was reading this fic, though sometimes I wanted to pull my hair out. Set after the titans are gone, humanity has to repopulate so arranged couples by the monarch are made to be wed. While this new order is being enforced, Mikasa and Levi are trying to work out their strained relationship. A slow burn with angst that will have you staying up till 3am dying to know what happens next. I know that there is a sequel to this fic called Nimbus and I’m slowly working my way through that one. Honestly, it will probably go on my next list.

- Red is the Only Colour

Rating: Mature

A cute fic that was a quick but wild ride. A Little Red Riding Hood type of AU where Mikasa is a hunter of some sorts traveling through a town. I don’t want to say how Levi plays into all of this since it gets border line spoilers but just know that he is there. It is an opening ending fic for the author to come back if they plan on doing so but it can be interpreted in different ways. All in all, a fic worth of the quick read.

- Sing Me a Song

Rating: Mature

First I have to get this off my chest, I love the author’s name hahaha! I freakin wished I would have thought of that for mine! Anyway, this fic is wonderful but I will warn you that its a gut punch. If you like hurt and angst put together, then this is the story for you. I love these types of fics because I adore them so much but they hurt me in my soul. I don’t know what that says about me but whatever. I don’t want to delve into the story too much for spoilers but I would suggest rivamika fans to check this one out.

- Midnight Musings

I just started to read Raewyll’s fics so I’m slowly working my way through all her works. This one caught my eye and I had to read it. This is a cute take on a chance meeting through texting the wrong number. I love the way Levi and Mikasa’s relationship blossoms into something more serious after causally texting back and forth. It’s one of those stories that I can only describe as being cute as shit! I’m definitely going to be checking out more of Raewyll’s fic in the future.

- Beyond the Walls

If you love RIvamika angst, then look no further than this baby right here. This is currently my favorite ongoing fic. It was supposed to be a shorter story, but the author keeps adding more chapters so I’m not complaining hahaha! This fic is pretty much how I would *personally* picture canon Mikasa on how she would deal with realizing that she’s falling in love with someone. Its mostly told in the perspective of Mikasa as she is dealing with the after effects of war and trying to figure out what should she do with her life now that she is no longer a solider. Her feeling for Levi come with a lot of confusion as she’s discovering emotions that she has never felt before. She has a hard time pinpointing on what exactly describes her relationship with him. I’m anxiously waiting for the final chapter for this fic and dying to see how it will end for Mikasa and Levi.

- After the War

Rating: Mature

I am loving this rivamika slow burn fic right here. Its similar to Beyond the Walls but I think the author adds their own taste of the 1920s into it. Set after the war is over (obviously), Mikasa and Levi have to figure out what they are going to do the rest of their lives. It has great tension, a perfectly paced gradual romance and just the right amount of humor to combat the emotional turmoil it puts you through. Again in my opinion, this is close to how I would realistically perceive Levi and Mikasa’s relationship evolving. I’m really enjoying this story and I’m looking forward to more updates to come!

- The Sound of Lightning

A new fic that is just getting started but I can tell that what the author has in store is going to be interesting. Set several years after the end of the war, Levi and Mikasa are loving parents to a single child. Their peaceful life comes to an end when the family has a threat against them. There are not many long fics about Mikasa and Levi being parent so I was very happy when this one popped up on the AO3 feed. An exciting adventure awaits the Ackerman family now and I can’t wait to see where this fic goes in the future. There are three chapters as of now so head over there and check it out.

One of the gems I found when diving back into the Rivamika archive. Ugh I HATE that this fic is incomplete!!! Its a good long fic but I’m greedy and I need more! I will give a warning first that this fic does contain heavy themes. Mikasa and Levi are in the underground to fight against a criminal ring. This story is a slow burn with action and emotional trauma. There is a wonderfully written OC that you easily get attached to its not even funny. Even though its not completed, I would highly recommend checking it out. I still have three more chapters to finish but I had to put it on this list. I know that I’m going to be pissed once I reach the last chapter written. If someone know MissErikaCourt, let her know that she needs to comeback to finish this masterpiece!

- Shiver

Another one that I DISPISE its incomplete!!! Ugh such a great Office AU. It’s everything that I would want in an Office AU setting. Mikasa struggles between her committed long term relationship and her growing attraction (which starts to develop into some feelings) to her boss, Levi. Its hot, sexy and intriguing and it pisses me off that its not finished! The author writes each chapter as a one-shot but collectively together they tell the whole story. Highly recommend even though its so short. BORNSINNER where ever you are in the universe I hope you come back to finish this!!!

- Two Lines

When this was getting updated it was my favorite on-going Rivamika fic. I would find myself checking to see if the author updated with a new chapter every week! The unplanned pregnancy trope is a classic one, but Crejhov does a fantastic job on keeping readers enthralled with soo many anticipated character meet up that are bound to cause hurdles for our expecting parents. This story is told from the perspectives of Mikasa and Levi in order for us to understand where their mindsets are as they plan for their expecting child and deal with their relationship. AHHHHH I want more of this!!! I was soo excited to see where this awkward journey was going to take Mikasa and Levi. CREJHOV COME BACK PLEASE I KNOW YOU HAVE WORK BUT PLEAAASEEEE! I NEEEEEEDDDD!!!

- Cabin Fever

All I should have to say about this is that its written by AmayaOkami and that should explain it. Amaya is the one that gave us the beautiful incomplete rivamika fic Romance and Rivalry. I just adore her writing. Levi and Mikasa relationship evolves as they are standing guard over the arrested Kenny Ackerman. Secrets are discover about the Ackermans and it gets pretty steamy between our two favs. Great fluff and great sexual tension that leaves you wanting more chapters! Again AmayaOkami where ever you went I hope for some miracle that you come back and complete this one too!

This one-shot feels like I read a novel, it has such a great storyline. An arranged marriage between Mikasa and Levi leaves the relationship strained in the beginning. Their relationship evolves over time as Levi patiently brings down Mikasa’s wall. With smut added for all of your one-shot needs. Definitely worth the read in my opinion.

HAPPY NEW YEAR

There are so many people I’ve met on this site, so many friends I’ve made. I joined tumblr only a few months ago, but my life has already drastically improved. I smile more and laugh more and I feel happier all the time, knowing that you all are just a click away. I’ve often heard people refer to tumblr as a hellsite, but I don’t fully agree with that. True, some things on here are crazy, but more than that, I’ve found people like me. I’ve found people who understand me, who think like me and feel like I do. Ya know, before I joined tumblr, I had never met another bisexual person(crazy, right?). Y’all have made life more enjoyable and happier and brighter, and for that, I’ll never be able to thank you enough.

I have soooo many people I have to thank, so I’ll try to keep the list of people as short as possible: all my closest friends and all the people who have been amazing and I have loved seeing since I joined tumblr earlier this year <33

@one-neat-nerd you were the first blog to ever follow me, and I don’t remember if you were the first blog I followed, but you definitely were in the first 10. Ajin ch 86 thoughts

Okay, it’s been a little bit! Thoughts and spoilers under the cut! (Warning, this is very long)

Writing this in a word doc because a) I don’t want to risk going on tumblr and b) I don’t want to risk the post getting deleted in the middle [note from the end: this ended up being four pages long in a Word document, so I’m sorry]

Ahhhh, last time buying the digital magazine >< Until... if... Sakurai starts publishing something new...

It seems kind of unfair not to have Ajin be the cover feature if it’s ending DX I guess they’re just starting with a new series, though. Is that how that works? (It has a main character with white hair so I might be interested...) It’s at the beginning of the mag.

Okay, yeah, pages 111-175. Aggghhhh I’ve always put off reading the end of series, but I think this is the first one I’ve been up to date with when it actually ended. Promised Neverland was close.

okay, so at least some time skip Tanaka: New identity, who dis Ooh, Izumi called Tanaka “anta” – the rude/familiar version of ‘you’, rather than the polite one. Honestly I don’t remember but it’s probably what she called him previously. And then turns around and called him anata the next page X’D Okay, I’m glad that not being consistent is okay in Japanese, I always worry/wonder about that ooooh so Tanaka doesn’t have a new identity YET. I wonder how long it’s been?? omg Tosaki prepared it?? Was he thinking that far ahead? Or is he not dead.... ??? okay so he made it ahead of time oh, and Izumi was the one who asked him for it??? Oh wow, Izumi has yet another change of identity. I wonder if she’s back to (omggg I forget D: her original name... Tainaka [hah]) Also another great shot emphasizing their height difference X’) lmaoooo I always love when there manages to be some humor oh, they’re only about three years apart! I wonder if that helps pin down the timeline at all??

Oh dude I really didn’t think we’d get any resolution on that ship and like, idk if this counts as resolution but it sure looks like it does right now okay I’m really sorry but part of me is like ///we’re using so many of the remaining pages on this/// although oh I guess it’s only been 10 pages... it feels like so many since the chapters have been so short lately...

heyyyyy I mean we kinda knew the U.S. ajin would be back or else what was the point of introducing them Ogura not being dead at the end of the series is extremely impressive (also hopefully Kai :prayer hands: as in I think he survived) so Ogura didn’t tell them he was coming back huh ... with the crew??? :eyes emoji: lmao AND they thought he was dead, I’m cackling oh okay so they had heard he wasn’t dead the close up of Jim’s face reminds of Kai somehow I guess this manga isn’t so long (and the U.S. ajin left enough of an impression) that at least we’re not like WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE “I’ll kill you!!” “Go ahead!!” HA Winnn I think the people in this series need to get their idea of ‘fun’ checked I don’t really understand what he says in the bubble after that... I’ll have to check the English did he like, metaphorically die because he’s out of FKs? I’m not up on my cigarette brands enough to know if that’s an FK or not... I think it’s what the brand turned into...? oh no what’s this omg is it gonna be Kai? Are they all gonna be in there? Kotobuki?? also this is already super sad that not everyone got out of jail free... unless they did and I’ll see... but also it’s realistic so all for the best I guess? i have no idea OH HA I thought it was the juvenile detention center but it’s Takahashi ! o_o not entirely sure I understand what Takahashi says to the guard either at least everyone’s having... fun??? KAI KAI KAI gahhhh this looks exactly like how ch 69 started and agh they’re both in juvie but ahhhhh they’re together?? I’m already scared to read and actually find out –o- oh wait they have dates to get out! and they said plural ‘we’ “That was fast” I feel like that panel represents what this chapter means to me somehow lmao they just want them to be not their problem anymore... that really wraps it up nicely, hilariously, and realistically I’m glad I’m not translating this because there are really a couple lines where I don’t completely understand them “something happened that day” um, yeah WOW I did NOT think we were going to get an answer to whether Kai was an ajin now or not, but I feel like that definitively answers that question????? also that’s terribly funny HE DOESN’T EVEN KNOW KEI REVIVED HIM?? -punches a wall- Kai’s whole personality is ‘I don’t really remember that happening’ >_____________________________> Kei... gave Kai a reason to live... because he almost died...? I still kinda have faith in this wrapping up well but GOD Kai is not a character to invest all your emotion into, laughs cryingly Kotobuki: “You literally never make any sense, man.” oh no “ano natsu” GAH

I just realized that this almost certainly means Kai and Kou never met. There isn’t enough keysmashing in the world to express my desire to throw my laptop at a wall right now

In no way shape or form did I ever expect to get closure on Akiyama, even on him getting out of the barrel

Manabe definitely stole whatever it is he’s holding but it was probably some kind of personal effects...? [my powers of prediction suck most of the time] he really looks beat up now ;u; Izukyū-Shimoda... Win, that’s not where you traveled, is it? Maybe I saw it on the Sunday NHK travel program... but it’s also the end of the train line and has ferries going out into the ocean islands. Is he getting away, or going home.......? or to Hirasawa or something...?

well that was an extremely abrupt shift are they really shooting Satou up into space they’re not using him as a test subject are they that sounds like an even more awful idea than I ever could have come up with okay... oh jeez can we please please not have Satou be Captain America you just KNOW he’s going to make trouble again, ,, , , ,!!

hmm. haven’t thought about it much but i reckon it’s fine if it serves the story and adds to it rather than detracting from it; whether it does though is a matter of the author’s skill and the particulars of the piece in question.

At least 10 times as much as expected. My plan at the beginning of the year was to finish Bespoke. I had the Farmer tumblr series but no plans to make a full fic out of it. And then COVID happened, and I haven’t stopped writing since.

What’s your own favorite story of the year?

Ahhhhh I can’t choose!

Gun to my head? I would pick Rhapsody in Pink because I love it with all my heart (just like Bespoke and now Song of the Rolling Earth) but RiP changed me as a writer.

Did you take any writing risks this year?

Yes:

No profic aspirations, but my fanfic goal is to finish the long haul that is Song of the Rolling Earth.

In terms of both comments and kudos it’s Rhapsody in Pink, but special mention to Bespoke because it has almost as many comments as RiP but way fewer of those comments are my responses (bc I suck at responding to Ao3 comments, even though I read them all).

Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion:

Honestly, any and all of my fics got way more appreciation than I ever expected them to. If I had to pick one I guess I would say Red? It’s funny though, because besides the fact that I thought people would be more into feral Steve, a big part of the reason I wrote it was because I thought people would be pissed at me for the Chapter 9 angst in Bespoke and I wanted to offer consolation porn, but the Chapter 9 angst ended up being more popular 😂

Most fun story to write?

put you on something new. Frat Steve’s inner monologue is on another level of fun for me.

Most unintentionally telling story:

All The Sugar In The World. I figured out some things about myself writing that world, lol.

Biggest disappointment.

None. I feel good about everything.

The response to the original tumblr series for Farmer Daddy Steve. I felt like it was just a silly series of posts and then it got a WILD response. So glad to finally be writing that world “for real.”

I think it’s about finding the right spot between what feels comfortable for you and the end you’re using your art for? In my case what’s comfortable is something fun and smooth, and the main end has always been to be able to draw comics - I’ve always liked comics because I like writing and I like drawing, but my attention span was too short to manage finishing them, and the way I had of drawing was too stiff to properly convey emotions the way I wanted to, which made drawing comics sound like an impossible dream haha I fixed it by simplifying my style, by taking away or reducing to the bare minimum everything that took me ages to work out/draw and pushing my expressions and body language to extremes to make up for the lack of details.

That’s just my experience with it, though! The best advice I can give you is to sit back and look at your current way of drawing from an objective perspective - do you enjoy it? Is the process of drawing something you’re comfortable with? What’s uncomfortable in it for you, and in which ways could you change it to make it comfortable and fun? Does your current art style allow you to do what you want to do with your art? If you want to paint, does it allow you to paint in an easy and fun way? If you want to make comics, does it allow you the range to properly portray a character moving and living without making you wish you’d never started drawing halfway through it?

Imho the first step to find a style that’s your own and feels right is to find a style that’s fun to use and doesn’t stress you to hell and back every time you pick up your pencil. This is easier to do the more things you attempt, so for a bit being inconsistent in style is a good and normal thing - try things out! The best one for you will definitely stick in the end. And if you already feel comfortable with the way you have of drawing, then hell! You already have a style that works for you! Just because to you it doesn’t look unique and special it doesn’t mean that it isn’t - if you asked me to point out what makes my style unique I wouldn’t be able to tell you either, the way I see it my style is the most uninteresting and common-looking style out there. To be honest with you that’s probably just how it is for every artist out there hahaha

Bakugou has had some amazing character development scenes after the overhaul arc!!!!! He’s outright shown he understands where he was lacking and where he was wrong, that he’s perfectly capable of working in a team and letting people help him and helping them in return, that he cares about his class and how the rest of the world sees them! (and that he worries/cares about how the world sees him too, actually, that broke my heart a bit ;; ) We haven’t seen him in a hot minute by now, but most of anything before the current arc has had him improve and develop and become even better than he already was - I’ve always thought him a good guy with just a lot of troubles relating to the world around him due the way he has been brought up as special and different (it creates a drift between yourself and the rest of the world when everyone around you keeps treating you as if you were other - when you tell a kid he’s different and better for his whole life he’s bound to grow up believing it, after all), but if the problem you have with him is that he isn’t showing the good in himself plainly and obviously enough, then the arcs after the overhaul one are gonna help you like him better, definitely

Well, the thing about Bakugou is that he’s not a plain/obvious character, so you need to think about his actions and his words a bit more, and can’t just take him at face value - it’s what I like about him, actually! How much you need to think about him to figure him out on a deeper level than just the surface one. Since I dunno why you like him and why you feel something’s missing, I can’t tell you specifically what it is in the way I see him that completes him for me, but as I said I try to keep him as IC as I can so probably reading my comics about him might help you understand the way I see him. To me Bakugou’s honest, and kind, and loving, but he’s also arrogant, and angry, and used to taking some things for granted, and I like how all those things work with and against each other in his character. He’s at the same time incredibly proud and absurdly insecure, and I like that about him too - where each comes from and where and how they clash, I like the complexity it gives him. I like that he’s a people person in the sense that he likes having people around himself, and I like that at the same time UA is the first time he’s had actual, honest to god best friends, and how that means that he’s gonna be awkward when usually he’s so sure and proud simply because he isn’t used to having people he actually specifically cares for, I very much like that about him. I like that he overthinks everything he doesn’t immediately gets, I like that he still acts on instincts more often than not, I like that somehow with him those two aren’t mutually exclusive. I like that he’s smart and still so damn dumb, I like that he’s just as simple-minded as he is an actually labyrinth in thought process, I like how one-track minded he is even on the most silly things - how once he sets his eyes on a goal he goes for it like his life depends on it. I like that he’s barsh and rude and impulsive in what he says and does, but when he fucks up he knows he fucked up, and he backstracks, and he does his best to make amends. I like that he sits in stupid ways and has the worst posture in the class and then he wears his hero costume and suddenly he’s a model on the catwalk, that’s so damn endearing to me. I like how ridiculously hyperbolic he is and how he just assumes people will get it, get what he actually means, like there’s a point between his brain and his mouth were things get blown out of proportion and he doesn’t even realize it. There’s just so many things to love about him, for me!!

But most importantly I like that he started as low as he could get and that because of it his plot is a one way towards the summit. I like it. I like watching a character grow and every new chapter become a better version of themselves, I love it. Ultimately that’s probably why he’s my favorite, after all haha

I’m way too much of a multishipper/gen at heart girl to really focus on ships so I’ll be doing fandoms!

1. Peaky Blinders

AHHHHH this show has eaten my life for the past year and a half. I love all the characters dearly. So I got into the show around August 2018 because @veneredirimmel said I should watch it. And I mainlined all 4 seasons in like... a week, and was basically taken by it from the first scene. Can you believe that when I first got into the show I insisted there’d be no way I could ever write fic for it because I was way too intimidated by it, by my lack of knowledge about the historical period especially but also the language of it. Anyway, 120k+ words later...

2. Twin Peaks

My once and future fandom. I watched the series when it originally aired and I was about fourteen so it was an extremely formative influence on my everything, from taste in music to taste in storytelling and cinema, etc. It blew my tiny little mind. I wrote fanfic about it before I knew what fanfic was or that other people did it, years before I got online. I made all my friends watch it. I took a new friend to Fire Walk With Me in the theater before they’d ever seen the series, and they somehow remained my friend. So 25 years later, a new series happened, and it was amazing and terrifying and strange and everything I could have hoped for, and it rekindled my love for the original and I wrote a bit of fic, and then was happy living in the space where I got it on a level that has nothing to do with words.

3. Supernatural

For a giant fandom I had a hard time finding a gif I liked in tumblr’s handy gif inserting thingy, but oh well. A friend I’d known from another fandom insisted I should watch in late 2009 and though I liked it ok and a few episodes really grabbed me it took watching most of the first season for me to really get it, but by the s1 finale, yeah, ok, I was in. This fandom ate my life for close to ten years, and that’s... a bit ridiculous really, isn’t it. I finally had to give it up because the show had gotten so horrifically bad and I’d stayed with it way longer than I should have, and it made me super bitter, and I should have gotten out way earlier for my own good. Lessons learned! Anyway I wrote some fic and wrote a ridiculously long meta and processed a great deal of stuff and got into a lot of arguments and had some really amazing discussions and met @veneredirimmel. At its best this show still can give me shivers.

4. Iron Man (2008)

Curse of the terrible gif selection strikes again. AAAAAHHHH this movie ate my brain for a good couple of years. So the first time I saw a trailer for this movie, on tv, I nearly died laughing because I didn’t know anything about the character, didn’t know he was a Marvel superhero, and thought the movie was some kind of war drama. And then halfway through the trailer, HE BUSTS OUT OF A CAVE IN AN IMPROVISED SUIT OF METAL and I just... lost it laughing. Hysterics. I thought the movie would be terrible but went anyway and had one of those experiences by the end where I wanted to run back and watch it again immediately. So I saw it another like... 10 times in the theater that summer, and I met a group of friends I love dearly all these years later when we have no fandoms in common anymore, and went to Comic Con and I wrote some fic and it was a short-lived fandom for me (I didn’t love the second movie and my fannish enthusiasm dropped off) but extremely important experience to me as a person and a writer.

5. Miami Vice

I probably saw some of this when it was originally airing, when I was a kid. I remember my dad watching it before we’d go pick up my mom from work when she worked the late shift. Anyway, I can’t remember why I started watching it again but sometime around 2006-2007 I got into it. It’s a really great show for the time period, years ahead of everything else. It has a weird hybrid vibe where some of it still feels like the cop shows of the 70s and 80s, and some of it feels like cinema, and that can all be happening in the same episode -- the pilot is a good example. It has scenes that are still better than television made today. At the time it got panned as being shallow for being so visual and heavily tied to current music, but all of that looks very, very influential today, doesn’t it? LOL. Anyway what they were really talking about when they called it shallow was how it resembled film more than television of the time, and when you read those critics now they all seem really hilariously bad. So I wrote a bunch of fic and had a really great time despite the fandom being made up of about three of us, and it’s actually kind of amazing we even found each other at all.

6. Angel

I wasn’t active in this fandom -- I didn’t interact with anyone or write fic, but I did read some fic at the time. This was before I got onto LJ so I was in the weird intermediate stage where people were mostly on message boards or email lists and fic archives were scattered things. I remember stumbling over Tea at the Ford, which was a site full of really amazing meta. Probably it was about 2002-3! I did catch up with the series in time to watch the last season live, I remember that. I was pretty into Wesley at the time, with a giant short-lived but intense love for Illyria, and wanted the show to go on just for more Illyria, who was amazing.

7. Highlander the Series

I don’t remember what year I first got into Highlander, but I was still in college, and a friend made me watch. It was after the show had stopped airing, so I had to catch up with it using his dubbed from tv VHS tapes, and he had some weird system where he’d been taping a bunch of things from TV at the time all on the same tape, so it took like 100 VHS tapes each with a couple of episodes, and in this day and age THAT IS RIDICULOUS WOW. Kids these days have no appreciation for what we went through, lol. Anyway I liked the main character okay but my heart belonged to Methos. This first flirtation with the fandom lasted somewhere around 2000-2002 for me, and I did eventually actually interact with people (via listservs!) and write fic for it. I came back to it again between 2005-2006 or so and wrote more fic and interacted a bit more with people because LJ had been invented.

8. The X-Files

One of the few shows I can say I saw from the first airing of the first episode. Even Twin Peaks I caught up on when they reran the first season during the summer. Anyway so this was 1994, I was a senior in high school, I have no idea why I wanted to see it except I think it was on after Brisco County Jr, which my family had been watching and loved. And I was taken immediately, it was just so great. I was obsessed with this show through most of my college years. Once I got onto the internet my freshman year of college I quickly discovered Usenet, and had to be extremely creative about accessing alt.tv.x-files.creative because my college blocked access to the alt groups, so I learned how to use gopher and a bunch of stuff I couldn’t even replicate now, because this was before web browsers. And I discovered that fic existed, and other people were out there who were like me, and it was amazing. We had X-Files watching parties, it was fun. So this was probably 1994-2000, though I’d lost interest by the last few seasons. I wrote fic! I should probably find it and post it to AO3, it’s most likely still out there, but I think it’s under my actual legal name, because I was extremely naive at the time, so maybe I’ll just let it be. It’s my first real writing and it’s probably not all that great anyway. Watching Halt and Catch Fire, when the teenage daughter discovers the internet, is the closest thing I can come to explaining the feeling at the time. It was just so new and amazing and it was mine.

9. Twin Peaks

Including this again, in the timeline, because I can. It was probably 1990? Summer of 1990. Before my freshman year of high school, and I’d had pneumonia that summer, and my grandfather, who lived with us, was dying. I had seen Lynch’s Dune in tv-mini-series form the previous year and got really into it and had a crush on Kyle MacLachlan, which is probably why I wanted to see it. I... watched a lot of it with my family, I think, which now when I think back on it is just... huh. Anyway. I had no idea fanfiction or fandom existed at the time, though I bought all the merch I could get my hands on and went to the public library to photocopy pictures of Kyle MacLachlan from magazines and wrote fanfiction and was generally obsessed for several years.

10. New Kids on the Block

I was in middle school, okay, and my friend got me into them, and I include this here because it was the first time I wrote proto-fanfiction without knowing what it was.

11. Misfits of Science

Dear god, there is a gif. Uh, I was in fourth grade so probably this was 1985-1986, and I was obsessed with this show, which is really, really terrible and I don’t recommend you try to find it on YouTube. Anyway Courtney Cox was in it and I wanted to be her character. I didn’t actually write anything but I did make up a lot of stories in my head, so it counts.

12. Voltron

I’m not sure if this gif was from the original cartoon or not but obviously it was hard to find a gif that is not the remake. Anyway I was really into this show as a kid, and made up stories about it as well. I can’t remember when this would have been, but probably the early to mid 80s.

13. Star Wars

Okay I can claim that I saw this first movie when it came out in 1977 because my parents took me to a drive-in when I was a baby. So I’ve known Star Wars before I could talk. Used to play Star Wars with my brother and the neighbor kids (I was Leia, my brother was alternately Han Solo or Darth Vader and often would switch without warning). I made up all sorts of stories in my head, and my first memory of my future hurt/comfort obsession was clearly Leia being shot in the arm in Return of the Jedi. So it goes way back.

And that’s it, my fandom history LITERALLY FROM BIRTH. Sorry it’s so long, but I am old. I am too anxious today to tag anyone so if you see this please consider yourself tagged, I really want to know, I love this meme.

Me rambling about S3 and being an emotional mess

Okay, I have feelings and I need to talk about them. This is not a constructive analysis or anything this is just me talking about SOME of my favorite clips from season 3 of Skam France because it's the end and i'm emotional.

I knew this season would be awesome from the second I saw the trailer.It was genius and I still watch it sometimes because wow.I love that we saw the I saw you the first day of school scene. I love that we were all fooled into believing it was Lucas. Because he's the main and i also think because of the clothes, that's something Isak could wear. But little did we know they were making their own thing.

"T'es pas comme les autres" + adding to this the minute par minute talk

Skam is a very emotional show, with very emotional scenes but I didn't cry cry as much as everyone did. And it's okay obviously. I teared up, thought I was going to die because of the pain, internally sobbed during the whole season. (For me it's 50/50 or I cry a LOT or I just can't because I just have too many emotions and my body is just dying, but it doesn't diminish the pain oh no) But the only two times where I really really really cried were during T'es pas comme les autres and the minute par minute talk. For mpm, I was expecting it. This is my favorite quote of the Skam universe, I use it everyday and it really helped me dealing with mental illness. I knew hearing it in my native language would wreck me. I was tearing up during the whole clip but I just bursted into tears when Lucas said it.

But I was not expecting the "T'es pas comme les autres" clip. I remember watching it, sobbing, thinking what the hell is happening to me. It's a mixture of Lucille's speech, the piano music (i tear up everytime i listen to it) and the images of Eliott. this.was.too.much.for.me. But I love this clip with all of my heart, and I cry as much everytime I rewatch it but I love it.

The piano scene

This scene. This freaking scene. It's unique,it's beautiful, it's a masterpiece. I have a thing with piano, it always gets me emotional and it's my favorite instrument, and I listen to piano music every day.But.this. this was incredible. And it's a scene nobody expected and wow it had so much impact. I can't find the words about how much I love this scene. And I won't ever be able to forget the T'es Suprenant. I remember not being able to sleep after this scene because I couldn't get over it.

Intervention

This is one of my favorite clip. First the acting, Axel how how how? I also love how it's as much as a sad clip as an hopeful one. Yes, it's sad but Mika and Manon are here for Lucas, he finally has support, and it's the clip where things are changing , Lucas starts accepting himself in the next clip and it's beautiful. And also some things that were said in this clip hit me so strongly and I think about them everyday.

Viens on en parle pas

god. Manon coming to Lucas? Her crying ? Him conforting her? And then when he started to cry my heart broke. This was powerful and I'm so glad this clip exists.

Special mentions to Eliott following Lucas on instagram. So many of the instas udpdates are pure gold, so so so many, but I don't think I freaked out more in my entire life than the day Eliott followed Lucas. I literaly went home walking because I had too many feelings and needed to calm down.

I feel like i'm forgetting so so many things, but I can't write down everything, especially the fandom stuffs and how much we freaked out over everything, and all the debates and theories but this has been my favorite part

I'm so glad for this season, and it had been an incredible ride. I also think i would not be this attached to it if I didn't discuss the clips with everybody on tumblr everyday. Thank you. You all made this special.

I wanted to start tagging people but the list was getting way way way too long and I'm afraid to forget someone and also the less people see my rambling the better it is. I'm a really nostalgic person and I hate endings, and even if it's also a beginning because you bet i'm gonna follow S4 with the same energy ( I was already so hyped just by seeing Imane at the end of the last clip) , it's the end of Lucas pov and I will forever miss him. And seeing everybody in the tag saying goodbye and thank you to our boy ahhhh. Watching this season was an unique experience and it was so special. But i can't believe this is over. This morning i was listening to music when Remember attacked me without my consent and i started full on sobbing. The whole day i felt almost sick because i knew it was the end, in my last class i was really really feeling bad i couldn't do anything. But after the clip i was sad but also so much happy. I'm so thankful for this season and for Lucas's story.

(Also after the last clip, i was sitting on the ground in the train watching the landscape through the windows as the sun was setting, thinking about everything ,poetic cinema right there)

This afternoon I was like I should be less dramatic. But fuck it, I like being 300% invested in this. Being inside a fandom is my favorite thing.

I feel like I could never say everything I want to say, but (i was listening to music and my song just say i just wanna say thank you as I was writing this yes that's exactly this song) I just wanna say thank you. <3
