have i talked before about how crazy it drives me that in old bdubs videos he would super abashedly talk about his love for making things pretty? because. it drives me crazy.

at the beginning of mc4 when everyone was clearing out spawn so it was a lifeless flat plot of land to build on and bdubs took it personally and added grass and foliage once everything was built to make the whole landscape more lively and cohesive. and how hed get made fun of for thinking about little shit like that.

also when he got asked what hed be doing if he wasnt doing mc and he mentioned music (i think) and basically was super embarrassed to be like “i know its not very manly, but im super into artsy fartsy stuff”. as if that is a bad thing.

anyway im getting so emo thinking about how in hermitcraft, everyone knows and admires bdubs skill as a builder and its not ever something thats made fun of anymore. thinking about how bdubs never talks down about his own abilities anymore and instead of feeling weird about being a dude whose into artsy fartsy stuff, hes really embraced his career as a creator of beautiful things.

#sorry this post is literally so self indulgent #last rb got to me okay #remembering when i first got into bdubs and id see him in other ppls content and was like ‘oh hes silly haha’#but i didnt actually start watching him until i saw his hc8 base and thought it was one of the coolest things id ever fucking seen in mc #i started watching his videos and the way he talked about block palettes and gradients #and the way hed try things i’d never think could work really blew me away #and hes always been like this #i remember even in hc4 with his modern house #the way he used snow to create a slope was like. mind blowing to me.#ten years after he first did it LOL #hes taught me so much about minecraft as an art medium its fucking crazy #anyway #its been a while since ive gushed about bdubs this feels really good actually #i love him :(#edit: i wasnt gonna say anything when this was a dumb little personal post but ppl are actually rbing it #so i will correct myself #in my tags when i said hc4 i meant mc4 #lol

It’s a long one but it’s worth it.#so many great characters and relationships! it's definitely a bit drawn out but I think it needs that space to properly explore everything #The central complex sibling relationship/rivalry full of betrayal is so interesting #and I feel like I haven't read a lot of books that really centre that (rather than a romance)#and also where everyone's queer with not really much romance at all. most of what I've encountered that might be my taste is one or the oth #it didn’t emotionally devastate me as much as the others and I feel like some aspects could have been more subtle?#It’s definitely self indulgent in places haha and sometimes I felt it was a liiittle too nice to the characters?#But overall I really love this trilogy!#astra beloved

i've def heard of people having to be in the right headspace to write like, v thirsty/self-indulgent snz content, but somehow i find it equally difficult to be in the right headspace to write angst

#snz thirst is more predictable bc it's just #letting my d pilot the plane instead of my head and blinking down to see that i've written 2 thousand words #angst is not like a snz-specific device so you'd think it'd be easier to utilize #but specifically in the context of h/c it feels like #close to the same level of self-indulgent for me... only i feel so much more self-conscious when i'm writing it. i think it's also because #i feel like people more easily excuse gratuitous snz as like 'omg the author really went for it 🥵 this is hot' whereas for angst the #equivalent of 'overdoing it' or being too indulgent is like... okay this is ooc. these characters are not arguing in a way that feels #believable. it feels like they are being flattened or misconstrued just for the sake of the angst 🙁#what i'm trying to say is #being perceived as overindulgent in the angst sense scares me so much more than being perceived as overindulgent in the snz sense #when i get really into writing angst i'm like >:) omg i live for dramatic tension and misunderstandings. please argue MORE #but when i get to editing it i'm like 😰😰 what was i thinking. would they really say that... would they really cry here...#which feels terrifying in a different way - the not-knowing if what i've been writing will be received as i intend it or if it'll be seen #as too emotionally trite / unbelievable #does that make sense... i am operating on 4h of sleep right now which is probably #why this post exists haha. but anyways
