Happy 1st Anniversary to the Batmanfruitloops!!! 🎉

Whoo! This is such an achievement, but also it's such a crazy thought that it's been a WHOLE YEAR??? It means a lot that so many other people like our au as much as we do, and even more that we've been able to make friends; we want to thank all of you new and old for joining us here to have fun and enjoy the journey of our au!

With that said, I'd like to share some old art that's "behind the scenes" stuff from out time since we started our au.

also if you've been here since these were the profile picture and banner, you're a real one;

Fun fact, I (Sarsee) don't like fruit loops, but it was the first thing I thought of to name the blog, plus it was memorable. The au name being "Batman: A New Gotham" came later! Double plus, the abbreviation is BANG and I find that coincidence just delightful.

One of favorite changes that happened out of nowhere was John's eyes changing from more round to almond. He used to look a lot more like the Telltale Joker, but I feel like his current eyes fit better with his personality in our au. This also isn't going to show up because it's file names, but I had originally wanted to call the Joker "Jbird" like Batman calls him in the Lego Batman movie. (for context, it's the scene where Joker is tied to a bunch of balloons - you know the one - and side note, I want to redraw a screenshot from that with our Joker eventually) I don't have any pictures with a "Jbird" design because I never got the idea to work, I just thought it could have been interesting considering Joker works with Batman in our au and that would put him on theme with the Batfam being flying mammals/avians.

Most of the other original designs aren't too drastic either - or at least it doesn't feel like it to me. Scarecrow and Riddler have changed a lot though. And I think the changes that came about with Fluffy joining on board were much needed (Scarecrow's costume was always done by Fluffy, but I designed him out of costume originally -I was originally making the au myself, but that didn't last long when we started yapping about ideas to one another and never stopped) She also couldn't understand how I stylized his hair, so it became puffy and unruly instead of curly and gelled back. Ed can still gel his hair if he wanted to, just for special occasions.

Some old sillies as well from Fluffy;

we find the contrast between Batman vs. Scarecrow and Joker vs. Riddler very funny because it's so drastically different. The Joker and Riddler never really try to hurt each other, they just like to play into the dramatics and vibe while still on their separate sides. Batman and Scarecrow want to tear one another's throats out and watch them suffer for it because they have no idea what's going on in their heads.

with the villain!joker timeline, there's an alternate version of the Goon squad (Dork Squad + Joker) where it's Harvey instead of the Joker. Or as well, there can be all five of them. Harvey is the only person who can scruff Jo like the gremlin he very much is and he'll just let it happen.

I don't know if this will show up in the comic anymore, but at one point the Joker was going to refer to Scarecrow and the Riddler as Samhain and a leprechaun because they're both partially Irish - couldn't really be that specific with voice claims, and they'd be offended

and lastly, Ed gets cranky when he's tired

Batman and Riddler are the only two to get digital references at the time and man, do I much prefer how streamlined the final ones look. I mean, what was the dingy brown I had behind Batman? For a split second, Ed's coat was almost purple, but thankfully, Fluffy convinced me otherwise and suggested his shoes be purple. This is also before his vest, and now there's an in story reason for why he doesn't have it in the beginning. Also look at how skinny and tall Ed looked!! (he was still short, he's not allowed to be tall in our au)

January: An old OC I completely forgot about until making this. He's based on old radio like things :}

February: Played Person 5 Royal last year & drew Joker cos idk he's neat. Fun fact, the same day I fully finished the game was the day Storm & a Spring came out. Also while grinding in the game, I had his Bidding & VoaC covers on repeat. Which was a bit annoying to do since they weren't on Spotify yet & YT on mobile didn't have looping then.

March: The Hawaii Part ii album cover :} I did post that eventually but that's the time I actually made it. Had listened to TME a couple of months before then which got me into the album, so months later I drew it cos why not? [Also the month Vol.1 fully released on everything. What's funny is my gallery for that day was a handful of memes I saved at 4am before I fell asleep. And then the next image saved is when I woke up which was a screenshot of the whiteboard in TfaR lol]

April: First main Jash art !!! And its not even with any of the songs from Vol. 1 lol. I had his Moss cover on repeat again & now that all of Vol. 1 was out, I drew Heart in some moss. Or really in the image from the video.

May: Lil animation I made of Heart with the song Don't Hit the Lights! Link to my post & the song can be found here :}. Still really like the song & even the drawings. Might remake em eventually idk

June: Sky/socialc1imb's Clue AU! I like murder mysteries & this one was real interesting so I drew it a lot lol. Might remake that one or one of the others I made at somepoint? It'll be a bit later if I do but ye

July: A redraw of a HMS piece I originally made back in May, based on the Three Wise Monkeys thing. I like the idea of it so I keep wanting to remake it.

August: I honestly can't remember if I posted that art or not. Actually yea I don't think I ever did PFFT. It's one of the few drawings I did of myself this year & its from CJs Not Perfect cover [as you can tell by the lyrics on it]. Also one of the very very few vent-ish arts I made. I like the background more than anything but its still neat ig?

September: Art for one of the best songs ever. I love Fine, I'm Fine its so good & I listened to it for like 70% of the 20+ hours it took me to make the drawing. Still proud of it so there's the sketch I drew on paper, the one on my tablet & then the final versions.

October: There was a lot from this month due to Jashtober. I still like this one lot & it wasn't insanely rushed so I picked this one to show lol.

November: I have no idea why I made a fun lil soul. I was having an identity crisis over my art style & ig decided to draw the guy who is a walking identity crisis/j

December: Same as September. One of my favorite songs ever was covered & released, so I made a drawing like everyone else lol.

HIYA!!!! oh yeeeesh this is gonna be such a long answer 😭😭 it’ll be under the cut…… but um. warning for old Ashi art HAHAHA it’ll basically just be me guiding you through my gallery from all these years <3 I HOPE IT CAN HELP A LITTLE!!!

old Ashi Art JUMPSCARE

BUT BASICALLY. YEAH! this is me starting digital art in like? 2020 and getting into a3! <3 as you can see. this is my kind of sad attempt at replicating the style ??? you can tell from the way I colored my eyes, hair, and copied the way the hair is drawn!! it’s not OVERLY obvious but if you look you can see that I REAAALLY referenced it. which is kind of a big thing for creating an artstyle

and queue in my art around a year later!! 🤔 kinda more used to drawing the a3! characters (which mind you were the ONLY characters I drew for like. a whole year) and so naturally I adopted the artstyle more into my own art. learnt more about airbrushes would reference the original art a LOT. redrawing really helped me 🙏 once again. lots of referencing and looking at character references. and while I didn’t always redraw it exactly, looking at the character designs themselves made me pick up quirks of the original artstyle to better display the characterization and charm of the characters!!

then 2022 rolls around and I start getting more into proseka. start finding little things about this artstyle that I liked— whether that be finding that out through redrawing the art or trying to replicate the style. started picking up things like the smaller face shapes (as compared to twst and a3! which I was focused on previously) the way they drew the hands, the bodies, etc etc!! along w softer brushes and rendering 🫶

at around the same time I return back to a3! and make attempts at replicating the artstyle (left) or making edits to the predicting art to try and make it blend in (right). as you can tell I start playing around more w hair highlights and the rendering and all that stuff!!! 🤔 sort of like picking up new skills that I missed out on the first time. starting noticing more of the little details

and SO then I returned yet again and begin redrawing a3! cards!!! but you can tell that there’s more of a concrete style w the squisher faces and more experience the rendering 🙏🙏

and I did a LOT of redrawing. 😭😭 a3!’s artstyle is soooo dear to me because it has so much charm despite not being insanely rendered or having too much detail. and I LOVE that. so to try and add it to my own art I redraw and redraw and MIMIC in attempts to gain that exact same energy.

🤔 and though it’s not twst art…… this is when I started replacing the twst style and picking up on it’s quirks, then adopting what I thought was fun about it. most notable the varied opacity rendering. and you might notice that my lineart is more see though!! I MUST SAY!!! THAT WAS JUST BECAUSE OF A LITTLE EXPERIMENT I WANTED TO DO and I enjoyed it SO much that I dropped solid lineart sketching IMMEDIATELY!!!!! I think developing an artstyle is really dependent on you being willing to step away from your “art style” and look at others. maybe try some new things. pick up smth else and try to mimic it, and see what ingredients are used to make that artstyle succeed in the way that it does. between these three images you see such a change because behind the scenes I’m trying all of these different things, and seeing if I like doing them!!

🤔 sorta like….. oh I like this ingredient. so I’m gonna take them and add it to my own food because I like it. if that makes sense?

A SNEAK PEEK FOR ASHACE ART SINCE YOU READ THROUGH ALL OF THIS….. and like. as you can see my art really is just a mutant combination of all of these things that I like from the artstyles I enjoy. slowly it came together w no rush and I’m sitting here now satisfied with a signature artstyle that everyone can recognize.

I REALLY DONT THINK YOU NEED TO WORRY TOO HARD ABOUT HAVING AN ART STYLE especially if you’re a beginning or learning artist still. and don’t think that art styles just come out of nowhere!!! art is a combination of stealing parts of things that you like and putting them together. as all things are 🫶 but yeah!! the Ashi gallery HAHAHA

Daily Dragon #63 - Seal Dragon

These large, semi aquatic dragons are often seen basking on rocky shores. When hungry, the largest in a pack will swim into the ocean, hunt large animals like whales, and bring them back to shore for the whole pack to eat

I had a concept for a walrus like dragon but ultimately this isn't exactly what I had in mind. However, I do kinda like it! So you can expect to see at least one more seal-esc dragon in the future i guess lol

Daily Dragon #64 - Flying Dragon

As the name suggests, these dragons are ALWAYS in flight! They only land when they need to sleep, but are actually able to go surprisingly long times without needing any rest at all. Sometimes even multiple days!

Up and early with dragons these last few days aha Another redraw! I keep seeing it while looking at the other dragons for a hot minute so I wanted to tackle it too! I think it's actually from 2011-2012 like the Ghouldrogon because... Well they were on the same sheet of paper!

Daily Dragon #65 - Magon

The first Wario dragon! There's actually quite a few in his series. Lately I've been thinking about Wario Land/World/MoD for a while now. They're some of my favorite games and it might honestly be time for me to replay them

I played all the Wario games back in highschool so it's been a hot hot minute. But I really do like them all. They're all good as hell even (especially) Master of Disguise which is so underappreciated

Daily Dragon #66 - Snoozozaur

This dragon lives and breathes for one thing and one this only: sleeping! Rarely ever waking up, only for occasional food and water, they can actually sleep walk and sleep fight using what scientists believe to be some type of psychic ability. Additionally, they can levitate! Meaning they can comfortably sleep ANYWHERE!

Daily Dragon #67 - Shrine Dragon

This dragon is frequently seen guiding heroes of all kinds to temples and shrines important to their quests. If you're looking for a secret dungeon in a large area and spot one flying in the sky, it's in your best interest to follow it!

Thank you for all your amazing monsters and characters over the years, Mr. Toriyama!!

The more I keep thinking about it the more it's making me sad. Chrono Trigger's character designs were SO influential on me growing up. And the design for Arasu is SO important to RPG protagonists that I had OCs inspired by him before I even saw the character. And yeah, of course, Blue Dragon has always been a very important game to me even when I was a tiny child who couldn't afford an Xbox 360.

Daily Dragon #69 - Cuddlodon

A dragon that just loves being friendly and playful! They have some very basic combat skills like small fire balls and teeth, but why would you ever want to fight one? Come on, don't be mean to them :(

Really really low energy today. I wanted to do a Super Mario RPG celebration dragon, but I have something big in mind for the SMRPG dragon so I want to save it for when I'm less busy. Instead, today I redrew this fella from 2012: The Cuddly Dragon!

And of course, in 2024 (that's 12 years later holy hell!!) they come in multiple colors :)

ok, let me introduce them>>>

this is an adult Neji who survived the war, hope it is obvious bc of his scars. Along with Hinata Neji is the main POV in my HC.

Kō Hyūga with my redesign. I got so used to this appearance on him, so I have to remind myself that he doesn't look this way in the canon and other people may not recognise him.

He is 2,5 years older than Neji. In my HC his B-day is on 31 December because this day is Bertolt’s (AoT) b-day and my HC Kō has many things in common with Bertolt. His temper is soft  and is much like Hinata's, only that he is rather strong and is confident in his skills. His problem is the unhealthy desire to meet other people's expectations, the fear of accepting himself as he is.

He was the younger son in one of the main house’s families, but his elder brother was killed during Orochimaru invasion, his eyes torn out and stolen. It happened 2 weeks before Kō’s 17th birthday, so he didn’t get the seal. But it makess him miserable, he would happily bear a hundred seals if only it could turn his brother back to life. He has always been on good terms with Hinata, he looked after her and was supposed to be her guard. After the events of OG Kō gradually makes friends with Neji and eventually becomes one of the closest ppl for both Neji and Hinata. Kō is one of 4 POVs in my HC.

Kō is a sweet cinnamon bun and just perfect, I want to marry him but he is 2D and gay :(

Hiashi Hyūga. My fav part of this art.

Hiashi is DILF.Don't judge me.

I hc him being rather young, so that he is around 31-32 yo during Chunin Exam Arc I gave him background story and better developed personality in my hc so he turned out to be a very interesting and contradicting character.

Hiashi is one of POVs in my HC, through his character the clan’s story, traditions, political relations with the village, with Uchiha clan and inside the clan are told.

Tokuma Hyūga a.k.a Neji's main rival for the title of the most handsome Hyūga man. In my HC Tokuma looked after Neji when his father died and his mother was away on missions so he is kinda brother for Neji even tho they are not that close related. Tokuma has a rather difficult and heavy character, Neji picked some of his traits up. He is not too tall, around 175cm, and looks really young being one of the eldest among Neji, Kō and the next character. 

This one is my OC. His name is Yojiru.

At first I wanted him to be more like RtN Neji, but gradually he switched to Dandelion from the Witcher saga. He is Neji's first cousin, their mothers were sisters, so they look alike. He is almost 10 years older than Neji. He is a poor fighter and  medic-nin, but is rather well-read and knows a lot of things. He is also a talented musician, he plays some musical instruments, sings and even writes songs. He likes to tell jokes and fool around, he has a playful and carefree nature.

In the time skip period between OG and Shippuden he gets acquainted with Ko, they quickly become friends. Yojiru teaches Kō to live for himself and not to look back on other ppl opinion. Later they become lovers.

Hoheto Hyūga. He was a background character in the canon and for now he is only a background character in my HC. He is the oldest man on this art, he is around 5-7 years older than Hiashi I think he is a real clan's patriot judging from the scene with him on the war. Probably he is Hiashi’s guard and assistant.

This one is a rather new OC that is based on one of background Hyūgas from the anime. I HC that he is Natsu's older twin brother. They are from the main house so he doesn't have a seal, and Natsu being the younger twin has it. At the moment I don’t have any ideas about his personality, I'm choosing a name for him from Aki and Haru.

First, I just want to take this time to review some things I've done.

This is my second year on Tumblr! Woww!

I got accepted into a Game dev group!

I got the honor to play Zelda with SweetJohnnyCage!

I made a post that got over 100 notes!

I made a poll that has over 200 votes!

I almost have 20 followers!

I've started preparation for the Pokéthon!

I've started playing Zelda: The Wind Waker for the first time!

And I'd like to say that I made a good friend.

Now time for some things I've made!

Ta-da! A remake of the first drawing I could find of Jet, the OG mascot. Sure, Christmas and my birthday are five months apart, but I just had to do this!

While this image is a redraw by me, This one I can't credit myself for, the ORIGINAL designs of Drew and Dexter, by @drazegerzo / @drazedoodle ! I can't thank them enough for this, they mentioned how they didn't know if I'd like it but here we are!

When people ask "who is the artist who influenced you" my answer is you. I just love your work so much, I just started drawing (kinda late in life, I'm 30) and my end goal is to draw like you. Can you tell us about your art journey?? So sorry if you've answered this before. Again, I just love your work so much, your characters are so full of life and charm. 💕

Thank you so so much that is such a genuine honor <3. Also 30 isnt late at all in my opinion! (I'm 28 for reference) You can start a new hobby/ skill at any point in your life. I taught myself how to play the banjo last year for fun and I've never played an instrument!

As for the art journey I have just always loved drawing, ESPECIALLY animals. In middle school a friend introduced me to making comics and we would stay up late making naruto oc comics which is when i started trying to draw humans. I would do "master studies" aka i look at an anime screenshot and try to redraw it on paper.

I also drew A LOT of wolves in middle school. In late high school i decided i wanted to be an animator, went to school for it, briefly worked in animation and then decided I really disliked that a lot actually.

When I was working on my thesis doing a lot of technical aspects of 3D animation I would doodle little comics on computer paper (basically like when I was in middle school) and it was the only time making art brought me joy at the time. Eventually I started working in kid lit and I would come home at night and make My Dragon GF for fun. I realized making queer romance stories was just pure dopamine for my brain and I was actually making enough to cover rent + expenses doing my own art so I started doing my stuff full time. Now I'm still doing that 5 years later!

Just 'cause I'm really intrigued by this (and more or less tempted to draw..) do you have any designs/references for your Renegade Detective AU gang? Could help to also ramble a bit on their world and setting, even if you don't write it out. Always cool to get info about these fellas, might even help you brainstorm on plots and such for later whenever : )

Luckily for me, this is literally the only AU I have planned start to finish. I could write a whole essay, but I don't want to drop everything at once right now. :3

Also to anyone reading this, spoilers but not really since all of this would be in the prologue/chapter one, and I'm like 70% sure I'll never write this fanfic, but still.

So I'm lazy, and can't be bothered to redraw OG Pico into what Soft Pico is wearing, but that's basically what the uniform of the SCF (Special Crime Forces) is. This squad was created with Detective Pico as its leader, and they deal with any crimes where demons are involved. Forensics scientist Darnell wears a purple shirt. He's also the one who creates weapons, sprays, tranquilizers, and any other means of self defense that are effective against demons. Criminal analyst Nene wears pink. She gathers intel from less legitimate sources, keeps an eye on the black market for items of interests, and helps Pico determine what a suspect's next course of an action could be. She also tore the sleeves off of her blazer since she gives no fucks, and the higher ups can't do shit about it since Pico and his crew are the only one with the balls to deal with demons.

Pico is the only one of the trio to have dual pistols. One is a black one called Noir. He uses this gun for humans, and other creatures that don't require magical means to be harmed. His runic pistol is white, and is called Blanc. BF gave this to him back in college, and its enchanted by magical runes that allow him to harm demons, or any other entity that can't be harmed by non-magical means. He is considered a renegade in the force since he will break protocols/the law, and disobey orders if it meant saving the lives of others. Due to him and his squad being the only ones capable of dealing with demons, he hasn't gotten fired for his insubordination yet.

I quickly drew BF's design since I never drew him in full yet, but just imagine him with his usual hair, and pants matching his vest. The lines on his horns represent his energy level. This energy is required for him to live, and incubi/succubi can regain this energy by simply seeing certain thoughts/desires of those around them. Unfortunately for BF, he is unable to gain the energy he needs like others of his kind. This is due to an arch demon punishing him with a curse for betraying the clan, and preventing them from killing Pico, Darnell, Nene, and other students at college. This curse harms him if he doesn't actively block out the desires of others, and the only way for him to regain energy is to take the souls of others, killing them in the process. No one else knows about this until way later in the story. This demon attack on the college was also the reason why BF was forced to drop his human illusion, and his use of charm magic in combat causes Pico to jump to the conclusion that the incubus charmed him to make him fall in love, and breaks up with him. With the bad reputation of his kind at this point of time, BF had no chance to explain himself.

BF doesn't see Pico again until a few years later where a new program that employs demons as emotional support was made. This program is an attempt to improve the reputation of demons, and to show the general public that not all demons are a threat. With the help of the ginger's father (tank dad, yippee!), BF convinces the ginger to put an anti-magic bracelet on him to prove that no magic will get in the way of regaining his trust. He also cooks for him, plays his saxophone for BGM despite Pico's annoyance, and helps him fight demons once the detective trusts him enough to not use magic on him or his friends.

To give you a better idea what BF and Pico's dynamic will be like, here's a short dialogue exchange between the two of them when the ginger trusts BF enough to use lower level magic. A level of magic that allows him to see the thoughts/desires of others.

"Thanks, Pico. I promise to only look when I really need the ener- Wait. Why is your head empty?"

Pico simply shrugged in response despite knowing he had protection against the magic BF was using.

"Has your standards gotten higher since we broke up? Is my ass too small? Too big? Is my chest window not big enough? Is lean and muscular not good enough for you now? Do I have to work out?" He looked at himself in the mirror. "Actually, fuck everything I just said. I'm perfect the way I am. Still though, there's a hottie right in front of you, and you don't even have the smallest dirty thought of him?"

"Hm... Maybe you're not trying hard enough."

"Excuse me? You have no fucking idea how hard it is," he gestured to himself as he walked away to question his abilities as an incubus. "To look this good. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to... Do maintenance on my saxophone."

The moment the door closed, Pico chuckled to himself. "Fucking idiot."

100 Palette Challenge // Palette #9 // Blood Red Hydrangea

Today's palette comes from a poster for Cornell University from 1908.

This is an interesting one because you can compare it to Cornell's current branding colors.

Babbling about branding and my blood red hydrangea bush under the cut.

You can see all of these colors except for the tan included in that guide, though the RGB/CMYK values are different. For totally understandable reasons. The palette in the book was color-picked directly off of the poster, and on the one hand, the artist who designed the poster would've had to mix their paint or ink to match Cornell's signature red as closely as possible, without having the precision of just digitally color-picking. On the other hand, the poster, like I mentioned, was printed in 1908, and it's entirely possible that the brand colors have shifted and been refined over 100 years later, especially once color printing became more standardized and digital design tools became easier and more popular to use.

But that's really about the red, what they refer to as carnelian. What interests me even more are these secondary colors that appear in this 115 year old poster, that appear in Cornell's present-day brand book.

The "sea grey" (the second-to-last color) I can explain, since the poster is of a baseball player, and the grey is the main color of their uniform and, looking at some photos, it's very similar to their current uniform. And since sports uniform colors are branding, it makes sense that they would've incorporated that into their brand book.

The other two, though? I do wonder if their sense of branding was that strong even in 1908 and it hasn't fundamentally changed in all that time. Or if this poster artist just chose colors that would make that red really pop, and whoever did their current brand book had similar thoughts.

Anyway, that's enough musing on branding. I bring you another flower from my garden.

We planted a baby hydrangea bush when we first moved into this house. When we bought it, it had these dark, rusty, dark red flowers, and the tag claimed that it was a red hydrangea! I love hydrangeas, they were the main flowers in my wedding bouquet, and I desperately wanted a hydrangea bush. And while I love the pink/purple/blue classic hydrangeas, this one was so unusual that I couldn't resist it.

Now it's typical for a newly planted hydrangea to not bloom for a couple of years, so while it grew a lot, we didn't get any flowers. Until this year! There are two little bunches of flowers that just started opening last week.

And they're purple.

Now I'm not disappointed! They're beautiful. And it's not like we paid more for this bush than we would've for a normal bush (they were selling both for the same price). I'm just confused. Because it absolutely DID have red flowers when we bought it and it didn't say anything about special care to keep them that color like you need to do if you want specifically pink, blue, or purple. It's just odd.

But so I took a picture of the flowers (because they're so pretty!) and since that original red color was so similar to the one in this palette, I decided to redraw them as they might have looked if they'd come in the way they were expected to.

Overall I'm really satisfied with this piece, I really enjoyed playing around with the charcoal pencil brush. I wish I'd treated the tan and dark grey as more shading than an outline. But that's all part of what this challenge is for.

I have this really cool cross over idea that has already been tried in the Fossil Fighter Amino, but hear me out. I will touch on that later.

Fossil Figher X Undertale

I got 3 things I am going to talk about here

1: How I see this working

2: The basic plot line (that's the long bit)

3: Who uses what Vivosaurs and side quests

I will touch on the AU that as been made already. It's called Fossiltale, but doesn't really feel like the name 'Fossiltale' to me. It gives me more of a 'Vivotale' due to all the characters just being in Vivosuar form rather than using the core functionality of both games. But I can understand that I didn't coin the name first, so if someone can come up with a better name for this AU, feel free to make a suggestion. I will make a poll if there are some really good ones. For now, I am going to call this AU Fossiltale Above.

1: How I see this working

Plot should be the starting part of this AU, but I want to get this out first. The humans and dinaurians live together. For those of you who have played Fossil Fighters, this means this is taking place after the First game, and before the second.

I see the two games as existing in the same time line, but maybe with some time in between. Maybe a life time or two from the first game. And a hand full before the second.

So we may hear mentions of The first game's heros and characters but never meet them. Dr. Diggings, Hunter, Rosy, Duna, to name a few.

There is a map in Fossil Fighters that I do hope I can redraw. We will see.

2: The basic plot

Prolog-

After Hunter saved the world from the world eating monster, Guhnash. The world welcomed a new kind of people to live among them. The dinosaur shifting race Dinaurian. They quickly formed an alliance with humans. With Dr.Diggings being their ambassador/negotiator.

As the two races worked together, the two races soon saw their world grow with a new set of impressive technology and Vivosaur discoveries.

They built great sky ships, and amazing water diving technology. Along with Dr.Diggings' time travel machine, the world was heading to a better place.

That was 20 years ago.

-The start of Fossiltale-

[Note from Sketch: If this was the title screen of Deltarune, you can choose to be Human or Dinaurian in this AU. ]

Aircrafts had started disappearing in the lower hemisphere. Some reporting a strange fog, then all contact would cut off.

Expeditions reformed to find these missing crafts. Above water, below water, as well as the waters surface near the last locations.

However most of these were spoty. As the locational trackers on the aircrafts would jump all over the place.

One evening, however. The fog was spotted from the air and reported in. A group of scientists where sent to see the fog in person.

However, it would seem the only way in was from the air, as the fog would confuse instruments that was on surface level. Leaving most to be turned around. Back from where they started.

Under the water surface was no better. As underwater volcanic activity would make it near impossible to get through.

The group had tryed to see of satellite scans could help them see beyond the fog. Maybe even how big the area was.

Not much could be seen from the scans images. But the size of the area was condeinced to 3 Islands. With one small one, a med sized mass and a large Cresent shape with a large dip near its center.

So the only way to see this new location was a death sentence. That being, fly into the fog.

Some information on this land was found through an sncient story, found at the Digadigamid on Vivosaur Island.

The legend goes as follows:

Humans and monsters once lived together on the earth. However, monsters welded magic. Making the humans feel scared and weak.

Till one day, humans found a way to revive dinosaurs. Humans found this as a way to protect themselves from monsters.

And then a war broke out when a human and monster was killed.

Humans soon found a place to seal the monsters away, on an island. They had revived a legendary Ocean Vivosaur.

With it's power put an end to the war. They had the ocean split a huge circle around a secluded batch of islands, and a great fog was crafted to keep anyone away from the monsters. To prevent them from being released. As well as keep them in.

The Monsters were never thought of again.

After the story was found, most of the scientists found it as hoopla. Nothing more than some crazy thing that could only be found in a village like the Digadigs.

However, alas, thatbwas their only lead to what could be happening on this small part of the world.

The group of scientists had given up on seeing this new place on the map. All except three.

The three gather the materials and funding. Even after being told this was a suicide mission countless times. The three set off to chart the new world.

The plane last seen flying into the foggy abyss.

-Character selection-

[Character selection includes the choose to be a human or a Dinaurian. You don't get to customize them. Your customization comes with whatever Vivosaur you end up choosing.]

[(If human)Your 5 Vivosaurs to choose from. Spinax(air), Onyx(water), Ourano(earth), Stygi(fire), and Tophis(neutral)]

[(If Dinaurian) You get asked a questionnaire based off your likes and dislikes. Dose not include favorite typing, that gets choosen from the questionnaire. Along with what range and size your Dinaurian can transform into.]

-In game-

After the plan made a rough landing on the smallest island, one of the group of three [the Dinaurian aid] hangs back to see if they can fix the craft. As its not damaged, and can still fly. While two [the player and the human aid] set out to look around. Maybe dig up some fossils and back them back to clean.

(Add a joke about none of you thinking to bring more than one Vivosaur here)

Lucky for you all, there are a lot of earth and fire type fossils there. Most of them being ones that have been discovered, only two that haven't been.

A great break through for all of you. You have found Vivosaurs that have yet to be found. However, the ship is still down, but short range commission still works for the ship and your guys radios.

The Dinaurian, chooses to stay on the ship. Keeping a log incase something happens to everyone. As well as a place to be transferred back to if anyone gets knocked out or hurt from anything in the island.

(Insert of the human aid making a joke about monsters here)

As the player character and human aid travels they meet a Flower monster going as, Flowey the Flower. They look like a white Marigold.

Flowey wants to make sure you can survive in the ruins of 'New Home'. So He shows you how to battle.

[The same battling system from Fossil Fighters Champions is here. However, there is a safe zone still. But this time, you can swap out one Vivosaur.]

[You can choose obe of the waiting Vivosaur from your green side bar. Your opponent can not see this side bar, and ether can you see theirs]

So when you knock out all of Floweys team, he sends out a level 20 and wipes the floor with your level 1-4 Vivosaurs. The human aid also dose not stand a chance.

As Flowey goes on some speal about taking your soul to be come stronger they are blasted away by Toriel and Maia.

Toriel dose a line about how bad of a creature Flowey is and helps you all. Shows you the ruins and awsners questions the human aid asks.

At some point of you leveling up and getting more Vivosaurs. The human aid asks Toriel if there is a way to leave the small island to get to the other islands. Or even if their is away out of the fog.

Toriel goes quiet and runs off. Before you go rushing the Dinaurian aid saids they have the ship up and running. But only for a little bit, as the system will go back off at some point.

So as the player and the human aid travel back to the ship, they are confronted by Toriel.

Toriel launches a fossil battle, saying something about asgore wanting your SOUL's and technology.

However Toriel is beaten. And as such let's the party leave the small island.

As the aircraft gets into the, it soon shuts off, and crashes on to the mid sized island.

The human aid requests to stay in the ship as this land is much too cold for them, and they don't have a third jacket.

The player and the Dinaurian aid travel, but end up getting lost in a sudden blizzard. The short range radio cuts off during the storm.

As you make your away through it, it seems to die down, as the player character wonders down the snowy trail. The player dose in counter some stick breaking, and strange flapping sounds.

[There are no fossils to find during this moment, and there is no way back due to the storm that is behind you]

You find a strange bridge with a large open tooth gate. The player character founds there is someone behind them and asks them to turn around and shake their hand.

A short interaction plays, and the player is introduced to Sans the Skeleton. He tells them that he is to lazy to fight a human in a fossil battle; as that's something his brother wants to do.

Hearing some snow crunching a head, Sans dose ask if the player character is willing to lose to him.

The player can't hit the option fast enough as a larger skeleton in knight attire starts an interaction.

After some small punning from Sans, and the playing finding the large skelly's name is Papyrus. The large bone man ops to leave you alone for now, as he is to frustrated to fight. But he would like to train against the player in a Fossil battle so he can be ready for the Fossil Tournament that 'Mettaton' is hosting.

With that Papyrus Neh heh heheh's away.

Sans shrugs, says something about the storm getting ready to change directions, and something about 'helping out an old friend'.

When the player character's hears the Dinaurian side down the trail from where they came from, as well as some static from the radio.

Sans is gone when the play turns to see him again.

This is alot of open time to find some neutral, water, and air types to add. [The Air typing is the harder one to find]

Also, side quest are open here. As well as some og Undertale battles. [As some are too young to have Vivosaurs, or just refuse to use them. But there is a lot of excited talk about this tournament that will happening in a few days]

[After the player is ready to move forward] the player gets stuck in a snowstorm. And Papyrus requests to battle them. He states that he wants a 'real battle' and 'not to hold back'.

Papyrus starts the battle.

[If you loose three times to Papyrus. He will let you go. (Passive route from UT.]

The player defets Papyrus, and you move on to find a water Marsh.

[More side quests here and the earth type Fossils turn rare here. Air is still rare. But there are a bunch of new water types here.]

You and the Dinaurian aid soon meet Undyne who starts with an OG Undertale battle. Making it way to hard to get away from her. With the help of the Dinaurian aid being a raptor, you both get away from her.

[After some more side quest and a battle with Muffet as she is out for a vacation in 'Waterfall'. So mini boss battle]

Undyne starts the bridge chase, this time she riding on Futabi to keep up with the Dinaurian aid's raptor form.

When Undyne has you cornered, a stray yellow whale comes out of of the water and bites the platform.

After some goofy side quest to get out of the while named 'Bonehemoth'. You and the Dinaurian find yourselves in a dump area. And after finding some makeshift, and old, cleaning/revivel area, you find the bridge back is broken for now.

Good news though! The human Aid was able to fix the teleaporter. The player and the Dinaurian request teleaport. [When ready of course.]

After some talking, and goofy side quest with dating Papyrus later, you all get the air craft waterborn. Making all of your guys lifes easier.

As the ship drifts down tword the dump area, the Dinaurian wants to fix the bridge that connected the two spots of the middle island.

After some side questing to getting bridge stuff later. The three manage to fix the broken bridge. Much to the monsters delight.

You were all about to move on to the large Cresent shaped island, however Undyne gets on top of the ship, and demands a battle.

The player character gets on top and is about to start an true battle when someone [Papyurs] says something about battling honorably with Vivosaurs.

Reluctantly, Undyne starts a fossil battle. Saying something about wiping the floor with the player character.

After Undyne's epic battle, she saids she can help you get over to the Cresent island.

So Undyne joins your party, and comes onto the ship.

As you all travel, the party starts to ask Undyne someone questions. Undyne has a few of her own.

[Long story short, questions on SOUL's, LV, HP. The missing aircrafts and their pilots. While Undyne's questions are about Dinaurians, technology, and... anime?]

However, at some point you some in contact with a large thunderstorm. Forcing the aircraft to become a submarine for a bit.

And the ocean floor was very calm and, somehow, illuminated with soft blue glow. However, it was all short lived as underwater currents became to treacherous for the not suited water craft.

Undyne points the group off to a cave and the group finds a small cavern full of blue flowers and glowing lights. Undyne joins the player in walking around the area. Reading monster history and talking to the local monsters.

[Side quests and Fossil digging goes, the newest fossil found here, are the starter ones. These ones are considered rare in the foggy region.]

Soon enough, the player character and Undyne locate an elevator shaft. The player goes to report it in when the ground suddenly shakes. The walls open and lava starts to spew out of walls.

The player trys to seal the walls with rocks to buy time for the en habitats to ether get in the makeshift submarine, or dive into the ocean. [Most are water monsters, so they are built for it]

With most on board or in the water, the crew make their way up to the sea's surface. Where, with the help of the local monsters, managed to get past the thunder storm.

The crew of three manage to make it to the Cresent island. The local cave dwellers thank you for helping them. And leave to live in the, suddenly hot climate.

Undyne decides to leave too. And leaves with a 'thanks'. And disappears on Futabi in the oceans murky deaths.

The group turns to look at what is a head of them. The Dinaurian looks over the ship one last time, saying it dose not have enough energy to fly without a strong enough power source.

And so. The player and the Human aid travel the new area. And this Volcanically active, and metal covered plan is riddled with fire type Vivosaurs.

[Side questing some more, and og Undertale and Fossil battles]

The two soon find a Lab next to the volcano. And some how, the rock it is on is levitating.

Entering will lead to the encounter with a yellow lizard who saids they have been watching the three of you and your journey through out the Fog Regions. [That is what these islands are called. That you Asgore]

After talking to the lizard named Alphys. A boxy lookubg cleaning bot named Mettaton starts a quiz on the players knowledge of Vivosaurs, as well as the Fog Regions.

[Making sure your paying attention ;)]

After Alphys interruption on Kissy Cutie, Mettaton blasts off, leaving a hole in the Lab's roof.

The human aid asks if there is some kind of power source that is strong enough for an aircraft, in the Fog Regions.

[Long story short. Achievement: Core idea unlocked with the combined effort of the Dinaurian aid, Alphys, and mysterious notes]

Alphys, is willing to help make a mini power source for the aircraft. However, the only draw back is that you will have to run some errands for her.

[Mettaton puzzles here, fossil digging there and some items exchanges over yonder]

All Alphys is missing to make your aircraft an aircraft again is back in the dump, that is located in Waterfall. For now, the ship works for water again.

As you all ready to head back to the ship. Mettaton blocks your path in a show room and starts a Fossil battle.

[Mettaton tells you about this being his mock battle fottage for the big championship he will be hosting in a few days.]

Once defeated, Mettaton let's the player go. Thanking them for show.

Diving back underwater, the three plus Alphys head toward the dump.

[After doing a battle and item exchange quest from the mad dummy. The power core was fixed. Also shipping moment happens here for Undyne and Alphys. Though, it is a side quest]

Alphys and Undyne tell the group that if they want to leave, they will have to talk to king Asgore. However, they will have to walk to his kingdom.

[Some really long walking later, optional side quest, and Fossil digging to the castle. Most of the fossils being air, and neutral types.]

The three arrive to the kingdom of Stone Fort. (It was a fort in the beginning.) There are some trading, shops, and inns here.

[Okay so two things can happen here. 1 thing being if you completed all the side quests up to this point the player can go talk to Asgore out right. If the player has not completed the side quests, the guardsmen at the door will just tell the player a watered down verson of what Asgore would tell them, but for this, we will assume the side quests were completed]

The guard grants you access as the three show off 5 diffrent ore based medals.

The group pass a yellow hallway to into the kings chamber, that is filled with diffrent colored marigolds.

The group request to leave the islands and to tell the world of their discovery of the Fog Regions. Asgore refuses, but is willing to make a bet for how admit the group is.

If, they they becomes the champions in the Fossil Tournament. He will let all of them leave unharmed. If only one of them becomes champion, then he will the winner choose only one to leave with them.

The group seemed unsure, but in their mind. If two of them gets out, they can come back and get the other. They end up agreeing.

[After some time to do some digging, side questing [True lab, and snail race], leveling, and Vivosaur group testing]

The championship has arrived. [Its very much a reference to OG Fossil Fighters] everyone is ready for battle

[Order goes how you want it to, its more or less in the air. Everyone is here, from some random guy in Snowdin, to Undyne, but its up to how you played, is who you fight. There is no Sans battle here, and if there was, he didn't put effort in. He would also be your first opponent, if it was a neutral route(there is no Geno route in this one, due to the 2 extras). But the last battle has to be Mettaton. As this is the glamer show, where his arms fall off and he dose the 'ask the audience thing']

The player is the only one who wins out of the group, as the player had to fight the other two to get to the winners spot. (Asgore knew they had to fight each other. He felt pity and let the option of, 'take a friend with you back out')

Your friends choose to stay behind, and take a breather, while the player goes to talk to Asgore.

However, the player is stopped by Sans. He goes on about how he is the Judge and that he was watching the three of them all while they went. [Based on how you played, Sans will tell you through dialog if it was a Passive or Neutral play though]

After that Sans leaves, by walking twords the door the player needs to walk through. The talk with Asgore goes as expected.

He didn't plan on any of you leaving. That he needs your SOUL's to free his people, so they can see the beauties of the world, and the stairs they can barely see at night. [Thr fog covers the sky, its really hard to see things]

Asgore will you choose a fossil battle or a True battle. [Fossil Fighters or Undertale system]

Both are difficult. [With Asgors's Fossil battle being on the same level of BS as King Dynal at the end of the OG Fossil Fighters game]

After defeating Asgore, you are free to leave. With the others only getting there at the end of the battle.

As all three are getting ready to leave. Flowey returns. Taking both support characters in vines. Flowey goes on a rant, and force the Player to choose who they favor more. The human or the Dinaurian.

Whatever chose is made, the two fight off again Omega Flowey as he absorbs the 7 SOUL's that have been collected.

[A fossil battle against Omega Flowey and the other Aids Vivosaurs become corrupted by Omega Flowey.And you get to use the Dinaurian's Dino form, or the human aids main lead in your battle.]

After Omega Flowey is defeated, and the other side character saved. The whole undertale crew comes to help. But only helps to form the worse and hardest battle yet as Flowey trys one more time to take the SOUL's. But this time. Its everyone's SOUL.

Asriel Dreemurr challenges the three to a True Vivosaur fight.

[A battle where its still Fossil Fighters battle system but has the player forced to ride their Vivosaur around on the field to escape Asriel's attacks. And when all the Vivosaurs LP hits zero, the only Vivosaur that is still standing is the player's ]

Asriel goes on his speal, and when he downs the player and their Vivosaur, they just keep on refusing. Making Asriel lose his patience and is defeated. [The ending of UT]

When the player meets younger Asriel, they tell them their dream to be the best Fossil Fighter with their sibling, and wanting to go see them in the ruins before the fog is lifted.

[Some soft stuff happens, feel free to fill this blank]

The fog is gone and monsters can see the sun for the first time in centuries.

And the player gets a call on their long distance radio.

Monsters are living amongst humans and Dinaurians. All learning off if each other.

Vivosaurs have only gotten strong after being introduced to Monsaurs [I will touch on this in 3]

The scientists who found the monster as crazy, have no choose but to believe in monsters (even though Dinosaurs breath in their world)

[Add some side quests and seeing how everyone is doing. Even meet some human and Dinaurian characters]

The group of three have one last night together before one leaves [the one you didn't choose in the flowey fight]

The player and the other side stay there, gazing at the stairs as the end pops on screen.

3: Who uses what Vivosaurs, and side quests

Perhaps you have picked up on it, but most of the base UT plot is side quest, or filler. Mainly because, that's all stuff I would love to be a love letter to thoughs who want to see their favorite characters own small plot.

Now I will touch the Monsaurs thing. In the Fog Regions, the monsters didn't have access to the technology that the humams did. They had some blue prints, rough ideas, and magic. So the Vivosaurs came out, less like projections and more like the monsters that made them.

So the Monsaurs (Vivosaurs but more magic and monster looking) will look, act, and live like their Monster owners.

The bone Brothers have Boneysaurs (not exactly like Fossil Fighters Champions Boneysaurs, but close. Maybe even their inspiration for the Boneysaurs)

Undyne's Vivosaurs are rough, and armor.

Mettaton has Robosaurs

The Royals, have more mammalian like Vivosaurs. (Not saying the ones that exist already, I mean like T-rex looking like it got fused with a goat if you wanted)

Ect. To the others.

Who uses what Vivosaurs is more up to the person, as their are a lot of new discoveries made in the paleo world. So I will give a rough idea on everyone's preferences on typing.

Flowey - Neutral in the beginning, Air at the end

Toriel - Fire

Papyrus - Earth and Air

Undyne - Water

Mettaton - Air and Fire

Muffet - Earth

Asgore - Neutral all the way around (and still a BS level fight)

As for Sans, if you manage to get this lazy ass to fight you. (Which I don't see happening). He will have a stacked team with a Legend Monsaur being a Fire type, while the others are Neutral.

I see the battle with Sans as a small chance of winning. As his only weak link would be that Legendary Monsaur that looks like his blaster in T-Rex form, or even Neo. (If it is Neo your choosing as the base for this Legend Monsaur. Neo is A Neutral type Vivosaur. This will make Sans impossible to defeat.)

But that is what I have in mind for Fossiltale. I will make some drawings, and small story bits. It may go nowhere, but I wanted to share this. And see what y'all think about this.

It’s finally done. I’m... feeling a little emotional, honestly. All my D&D character references are now “recovered”, as in redrawn completely, from my broken SSD whose files were all lost.

I... I just want to sit back and put my head in my hands. [Cont’d]

This... It’s every character I have made for D&D since I started playing. The first two I designed - Miri Evenwood and Cecillia - down to the most recent two - Zarris and Joy - all together, all forms, all types, all everything, all at once. I’m just... This was so much work and effort.

When I lost the original file with all these guys in it, I thought that was it. Nothing. But I do post my art here and on Twitter, no? I saved what I could off here and there, and the quality of these guys was... bad. Like, really bad. Most of the pictures I downloaded looked like this:

Fuzzy, illegible, and most details lost. Some were better quality, but...

...the image compression of being uploaded to Tumblr or Twitter was... difficult to contend with. I did have some I shared on Discord, however, those were a little more to work from.

I had some sketches, linearts, in-progress images, and some poor-quality finished works. All out of order, all wildly differing in quality. I sat back and had to think, what could I even do here? My character references, all lost to an SSD that Windows Recovery corrupted the data off of. That was probably the end of the story.

But I am stubborn.

I started to redraw them. Why did I start with Ezra, Axel, and Blaze? I don’t know why, but I’ve held these three close to me. And then I started making the basic line art for each other character, either completely by scratch (see Verda here) or with a crunchy, fuzzy, off-my-twitter-or-tumblr reference to work from.

With each new character I drew the lines for, with each finished reference, I felt like the task ahead of me was monumental - impossible at times. Work got stressful, life got in the way, and whenever I had a few minutes to myself, I was putting character after character through the redux machine and redrawing them by hand.

Some stayed incomplete for a while. Some were started and finished within a... week, reluctantly. I spent a lot of time looking at what I’d done so far, and then back at the ones I had yet to finish or start. At a certain point, I felt like I had given myself a task that I would never complete - a problem I could never solve. Maybe I would’ve given up after a certain point.

But then I didn’t. I refused to give up. I made notes for myself, I reviewed old notes saved to my old phone that barely worked that told me which of my unsaved list I had later dropped or redone. I kept drawing these characters, and about at this time I realized something.

I had been making D&D characters for almost a decade. Some of these guys are from that time - Miri and Cecillia, namely - and some had been in-progress for years before I actually ended up using them - Blaze and Axel came to mind - and here they were. Again. After I had initially lost them.

This was something that gradually made me better at drawing. This was history - my own personal brain’s history, at least - and I was doing everything I could to ensure I kept it. Not only was I determined to have at least one single full-body reference of each character I could ever use in D&D, I remembered my original goal when I was drawing these guys.

One of each race and class combination. Of course, a silly goal, but it allowed my creativity to flow and make some genuinely cool characters. I would always look back on these guys and smile, and now I can do that again - and add more.

And the satisfaction of lining them all up in a colour order was so good.

So yeah, from October to December. So much work, and the payoff was absolutely worth the effort and time that went into it. Through every burnt-out evening, from days I spent stuck on the couch unable to move through the pain to days I spent here and there and back again. Through each hour worked at my job, to each our I worked at home and doodled these guys. They’re here again, and they’ll see me through.

And I encourage you to design your own characters. I use D&D as inspiration for these, but I have others, after all...

But at least these references are more stuck towards their names than their full outfits, fuck’s sake. These were my May-August project of recovering files so... This year’s been certainly interesting.

My Cabin, WIP. Almost finished.

I just need to complete the bookshelf. I'll get there eventually. This is a digital restoration project for an older work from around the 1980s...possibly from the 1990s. I can't remember when I did this one exactly and I didn't really start to make any major improvements in my artwork until my early twenties. There's a marked difference between this artwork and the ones I started to do in the early 2000s. Tutorial books were a big help. So are online tutorials, but I don't think I got regular online access until I was about 23 sometime after I got my first hand-me-down laptop.

I'm making no effort to improve anything in this redraw, only to preserve a fading artwork. It's getting up there in years, and the colors are wearing off some.

I still haven't gotten my own home. Been wanting one for as long as I can remember. First it was just a place to play when I was a kid, later as an adult...well it's still a place to play, but also a much-needed home and sanctuary. Maybe someday I will, but by now things look really hopeless. Among other things, I'd love to have my own creation space specifically set aside for the purpose of drawing. Basically a computer office space with nice bookshelves. Maybe a small space set aside within it to kick back and read in. I'm tired of making due with sitting on my bed with my computer, wires and all that just so I can have a spot to draw on. I keep thinking all those wires are a kind of fire hazard and it's not easy to get up with all that stuff on my lap. With a desk (which I have no space for even if I could afford it) I could just stand up and leave things as they were indefinitely. Now days, if I want to draw, I have to break out the equipment every time, spend time drawing, get yelled at for staying too long, get yelled at some more for taking the time to pack up and put away my equipment. The people I live with are often very mean to me. It's one of the main reasons I need to move away.

Okay, enough sad. I know this drawing looks like crap, but I think it's worth preserving because it was a step in my process of learning how to draw.

So i just recently got back into the undertale fandom and decided to redraw characters from my au

I originally posted some of these on undertale amino but the app is not the greatest and has lots of errors (lol) so i decided to post here instead

Starting with some info on the au

This au was an idea i started just to give some lore to my oc (their name is arata, which will play a role later on)

I made the character in 2016 because i as almost everyone was very excited about the concept of sans

Now, before ya attack me and call me cringe

I was young and new to the internet

Which is also why you shouldn't attack fangirls (fyi i am nether a sans fan and neither am i a girl )

People are allowed to like a character as long as they're not hurting anyone it is completely normal to be excited about things and have interests in characters and fandoms

With that aside

The au is called aratatale

There is a lot of translations for the name arata

The one I'm using here is "someone new"

The au was made 2 years after i made my oc

Little me wrote most of the information for the au rathar than draw it

As they only made 2 characters sprites

(Or at least that was what i was able to find)

The rest of character descriptions are all written

I will make a post explaining every character one by one after i draw them

And i will post how the au works

author’s note: im not ashamed to say it: this is one of the most self-indulgent one-shots you’ll ever find because, quite literally, it’s a self-insert. i hereby announce my intentions of bringing forth the astrology!tarot!witch!reader x eddie munson—their aesthetics together, lord! although, we could just shorten it to spiritual!reader x eddie munson, can’t we? anyway, this might become my whole niche considering all the things i’m planning in my head right now… i’m a menace and all of you are now being dragged down with me.

Before you and Eddie Munson were in the same homeroom, he was your hallway crush.

You didn’t know his name, but what you did know was two things:

He was hot. Like extremely fucking hot. (The whole metalhead aesthetic really did things to you.)

You would give an arm and a leg to be able to run your fingers through his hair.

It didn’t take long for you to figure out his name, and his social media quickly followed.

His main Instagram account was public and filled with videos of him playing guitar—where you could see glimpses of a small, cluttered room and walls covered with band posters. You figured out that he ran the Hellfire Club’s Instagram, and that endeared you even more to him because you were sure he made the announcements himself and didn’t rely on Canva.

Then, you found his Twitter account, which was also public. (Twitter accounts were always telling of character, especially for men his age. You found out that he had a little over two hundred followers, published his band’s music on Bandcamp, and had a killer sense of humor.)

And that was how your life went for three years, occasionally stalking his social media and looking out for him in the hallways. Until you walked into Ms. Abernathy’s homeroom during your first day of senior year and found Eddie Munson talking to her animatedly. (You later found out that Ms. Abernathy was taking over as the sponsor of the Hellfire Club.)

Ms. Abernathy greeted you when you tried to walk past her unseen. “I’m so happy to see you! How was your summer break?”

You blinked owlishly and avoided staring at Eddie like an idiot. “It was great. Thanks for asking, Ms. A.”

You forced a bright smile at her and fled to your usual seat near the windows. Your friends would be here soon and they would help you avoid staring at the ridiculously hot two-timer senior.

It was late October; the weather was becoming chilly and you switched out your crop tops and shorts for jeans and zip-ups. (Your trusty Birkenstocks remained on your feet despite the changing weather.)

Homecoming week was taking place the week of Halloween this year. You and your group of friends were excited over the announced Spirit Days, coordinating who was matching with who for Character Day and when to go shopping for dresses. And you all had fallen back into old habits: doing natal charts and tarot readings instead of finishing homework and studying. (Ms. Abernathy didn’t mind though.)

“Strength!” It was one of your favorite tarot cards. On it, a woman was depicted calmly holding the jaws of a fully grown lion. It represented having control and discipline, especially during times of great adversities. In this case, you’d asked Spirit who was coming into your friend’s life—possible placements and the like. Placing the card with the others, you continued, “Whoever is reentering your life as a love interest before this year ends will have a Leo placement—sun, rising, moon, etcetera.”

“Reentering?” Leena asked, staring at the spread before her. “I really hope it’s not who I think it is.”

“Remember, tarot is based on current energy, and energies change as you make decisions.” You looked at Leena sternly. “If it is who we think it is: then, we rebuke his bad energy. You’ll redraw boundaries and tell him there’s no way in hell you’re getting back with his cheating ass.”

“The moment I saw Five of Swords come out I knew exactly who it was talking about.” To your left, Oneida cackled before taking a sip of her Dunkin’ Donuts iced coffee. “He thought he was so sneaky. And now he’s coming back when he’s realized you’re the best he’ll ever have.”

Leena and Oneida continued speaking (i.e., arguing over Elena’s past decisions regarding your life) as you placed the cards back in the deck. Giving the deck a quick shuffle before putting them away in the box, you hadn’t realized your friends had fallen quiet, and someone was standing over you.

“Can I get a reading?”

You froze and looked up. Eddie Munson was in front of you. Beautiful brown eyes flickered between the deck in your hand and your face.

Leena and Oneida kicked your shin at the same time and you stumbled out a reply, “Sure!”

He grinned widely and sat down in front of you.

“I can give you a general reading, starting with three cards. Is that okay with you?” You held onto your deck like it was a lifeline as he seemingly stared right into your soul.

“Fine with me.”

You smiled and started shuffling after knocking three times on the deck. Spirit, a general reading for Eddie Munson.

The cards started popping out in quick succession. Knight of Wands, Seven of Wands, Six of Pentacles.

“I do my readings based on intuition—my gut feeling,” you explained, moving the cards so Eddie could see them. “I’m going to pull some more.”

Ten of Swords, the Hanged Man, Knight of Pentacles, the Empress, Nine of Swords, Two of Cups, Eight of Pentacles, Death, Justice.

You flipped over the deck, “Bottom of the deck: Four of Wands.”

You glanced at him; he was frowning, eyes focused on the Death card.

“The cards are scary if you take them literally,” you said. You started your interpretation, “You’ve been losing sleep, overthinking whether or not you should approach the person you’re interested in. And right now, you’re your own enemy, letting your anxieties rule you. You should approach them because it’s likely that your feelings are reciprocated. This connection has the potential to be life-changing, in a positive way.”

“That’s… a lot.”

You looked up from the cards; Eddie was already staring at you.

You shrugged sheepishly, feeling your cheeks heat up. “I know. But Spirit had a lot to say about whatever has been bothering you.”

As he was about to say something else, the bell rang and you fled after putting away your deck into the abyss of your backpack.

You slipped your phone under your pillow and turned to your TV. An episode of The Sopranos was playing quietly, and you chose to focus on it instead of whatever notifications were hidden under Do Not Disturb.

That only lasted ten minutes. You grabbed your phone, put in the passcode, and opened your notifications.

Oh, shit, did he get rejected? You thought but nodded anyway. You motioned for him to follow you out to the hallway. Ms. Abernathy barely looked at you two.

“What is it?” You questioned, trying to sound as friendly as possible.

“Are you today after school? I’d like to take you out, get to know you.”

You blinked. Then a large smile grew on your face. “So, the reading was about me?”

“Yeah, it was.”

You laughed and beamed up at him. “Well, I am free after school today then. I’ll meet you in the parking lot?”

“Sounds good.”

(It was a shame, though, because you were sure his uncle would have liked seeing Eddie walk the stage with you.)

It had taken you two months to convince Eddie it would be worth it to attend prom together. (You’d told him that you would spend the night with him—just him—instead of lugging him to attend the after party.)

So, now, you were pinning Eddie’s only pair of dress pants because it was too long. (You were sure that Eddie bought these hoping you would forget to make sure they fit them right.)

“Stop fidgeting,” you muttered, looking up at him through your eyelashes.

He stopped moving. He said your name softly. “Don’t do that.”

You smirked and looked away. “Stay still, and maybe I will give you what you want.”

And he listened. He stayed still as you finished pinning the dress pants (and you did give him what he wanted).
