Everything I Know About Twilight (I've never read the books OR watched the films)

They're all EXTREMELY Catholic/Mormon.

Edward and Bella are. Boring.

And also like the worst characters in the whole thing.

There's loads of really cool supporting characters.

Bella and Alice are basically a couple. And have like. Way more chemistry than anyone else.

Bella is "not like other girls"

The werewolf guy is for some reason in love with Ratatouille or whatever the fuck the baby is called (a LITERAL infant)

Edwards immediate reaction to Bella is to cover his nose (which is fucking hilarious)

One of the Cullens became a vampire because he fought a bear too hard

They… Can't eat food?

The books are Painful

The movies are WORSE

I'm not even going to go into the honeymoon thing bc it all freaks me out anyway and this? This is just too much.

LOTS of weird religious subtext.

By subtext I mean Chibnall levels of subtlety (smashing-people-in-the-face-with-a-sledgehammer style)

Apparently there are lines about collarbones being exposed and Edward being attractive in khakis. Again, weird Mormon subtext.

Bella nearly dies like. Too much.

There's a bit where Eddie tries to kill himself in the most EXTRA way possible.

5,000 Words in a Day: A Challenge

I dug through my writing stats the other day, and my all-time personal best is 3,440 words. I'm a pretty slow writer.

On a good day, I write between 500 and 1,000 words. Anything over 500 makes me happy. My baseline goal is usually 100 words. I only rarely miss that.

The 3,440-word record is from October 2021 — almost two years ago. I feel like it's a good time to set a new one. So here's a crazy challenge:

Today, I want to write 5,000 words.

Is that a good idea? Probably not. But it won't take long to find out. I'll be tracking my progress using the following challenge in Writing Analytics:

So the "share a coke with _______" campaign is back and I have the fortunate job of being the one who stocks the cokes so I've challenged myself to collect every bottle that has the name of an OC of mine

Day 2 of “Pond’s Pre-December Whamageddon” has been off to a good start. I somehow managed to dodge all three of my “need to avoid” songs without even knowing it at first.

And all three were pretty close together, which was even crazier when I found that out.

100 Palette Challenge // Palette #21 // Magical Orkney

Today's palette comes from a fabric label designed by Edward McKnight Kauffer in 1920.

Hey folks! I'm back and we've officially cleared the first decade of palettes and entered the roaring '20s!

I did actually start this poster on time, but between prepping for our toddler's first day of daycare, my own classes starting, surgery, two weekends of Pride vending, houseguests, and family gatherings, I haven't had a lot of time and/or energy to actually sit down and work on this.

Honestly? It was mostly done, I just didn't like how blank the mountains looked so I needed the time and mental space to work on the texture.

I'm not super pleased with the sky either, but I just couldn't quite figure out the cloud situation for whatever reason.

But you know what I am really pleased with? The nuckelavee! I wish I could shout out the person on Inkblot who brought it to my attention, but guess how I found out that Inkblot has an issue where it's really easy to mistakenly delete someone else's comment.

The nuckelavee is a Scottish cryptid/creature of folklore. There are a lot of different descriptions of it, but the most enduring one seems to be a demonic horse with the torso of a human man attached to its back as if he were riding it. The human is sometimes described as having long arms to drag on the ground and an oversized head. Neither horse nor human have skin.

I chose Orkney specifically for the setting because one of the earliest sightings of the nuckelavee was in Orkney, and there's apparently a grave marker for the victim who was killed by it.

I was less enthusiastic than normal about drawing the details on the rocks this time. Possibly just because it wasn't part of my original plan, maybe even because this poster had been sitting unfinished for so long. But I honestly had a really good time sketching in the muscles on the horse and rider. Like, they're not sitting in the composition great, but I'm moderately okay with that just because of how pleased I am with how the musculature came out.

We're getting into some tertiary colors this decade with fewer palettes of just rainbow colors, and I'm excited!

Next year is going to consist of lengthy 'to do lists' and seeing how long it takes to actually do these things

Going through a spate of art block, so I'm sharing my approach in case anyone else would find it relatable/useful. I've just found myself too busy and tired to do art for fun at the moment. I've tried fighting the tiredness, but I'm just feeling kind of burned out, so I'm leaning into it. I like 30-day challenges, so for the next 30 days I'm going to look at things that inspire me. And I'm keeping them all analog- going back through my non-instructional art books to look at pretty things. For me that's flowers, architecture, planets, fish, deserts, and John Howe's fantasy art. I'm also doing teeny tiny workouts where I can, because I've got some physical goals I want to try to meet as well.

Anyway. I don't usually post about life on here so I might delete this later.
