BREAKINGâ New Jersey Senator Cory Booker has officially broken the Senate record for longest floor speech ever in United States history.
The last record was set in 1957 when Strom Thurmond spoke against the Civil Rights Act.
Senator Booker held the Senate floor in protest of the Trump administration laying off millions of federal workers, tarnishing USAID, planned Republican targets to end Social Security and Medicare, and allowing Elon Musk to illegally access federal government departments.

So. Tariffs.
What is a tariff? Itâs a tax placed on foreign items, to be put simply.
Why are they bad? More money for products = less products being bought = less jobs as people get laid off = more poverty.
Or, more money for products = people going into debt = more poverty.
Or, more money for products = people skipping over (sometimes necessary) products = people less able to stay healthy = medical bills = more poverty.
Do they work? No.
How do we know? The Great Depression.
Am I sure? Yes.
Are they good for anyone? No.
Are they good for any economy? No.
Was putting Trump in office a good idea? No.
Are people going to suffer because of his policies and his actions?
Yes.

The USPS just suspended the acceptance of packages from China and Hong Kong until further notice.
This seems to be because Trump added tariffs to imports from China and suspended the de minimis exception that allows parcels worth under $800 to enter the country without being individually charged customs duty.
We don't have the infrastructure to process collecting duty on every single parcel from China.

Molson Hart, CEO of a consumer products company, has warned that the economic impact of the US governmentâs escalating tariff battle will start showing up in stores from May 10, with product shortages and price hikes becoming increasingly noticeable in the weeks to follow.
In a detailed breakdown posted to X, Hart said that the suspension of Chinese trade around April 10 largely due to new tariffs pushed by Donald Trumpâs administration is about to create a serious ripple effect across Americaâs retail and logistics sectors.
The US is currently imposing an average 145% tariff on Chinese goods, with some categories taxed as high as 245%, per a White House fact sheet. While the tariffs are officially levied on importers, the added cost is typically passed on to U.S. consumers in the form of higher prices.
According to Hart, it takes 30 to 55 days for shipments from China to reach American ports, depending on the destination. With trade effectively halted on April 10, that means key cities will start feeling the sting in mid-May, beginning in Los Angeles, then moving to Houston and Chicago, and finally New York.
âAs soon as containers stop arriving, trucking jobs dry up. Warehouses will begin layoffs, and weâll start seeing some products go out of stock, reducing demand for shipping and handling,â Hart explained.
Even if tariffs were suddenly dropped and trade resumed, Hart said it would take at least another 30 days for economic activity to resume and much longer for normal supply to be restored.
Retailers like Walmart, Target, Home Depot, and Loweâs have all hinted that price increases are most likely on the way.

Massive protests were held today in multiple American cities against the Trump administration and Elon Muskâs handling of the country.
The âHands Offâ protests voiced peopleâs anger for possible cuts to Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security. People also voiced anger over DOGE cuts, tariffs, and the radical and unjust deportation policies of the Trump administration.
All while Trump has spent yet another weekend golfing in Florida. He has golfed at one of his properties almost every weekend since his Inauguration
Protests were held in cities such as New York City, Boston, Chicago, Baltimore, Concord, Indianapolis, Houston, Salt Lake City, Rural Alabama, Boise, Miami, Charlotte, Washington D.C and more.
Over 100,000 people protested in New York City alone.

On tariffs being postponed
Donald Trump postponed the tariffs that were set to be implemented in Canada in February to be reinstated later. Why?
In my opinion, to some extent, he knows that it will actually do only bad things for his economy.
People will boycott American-made products, and those American companies will, possibly, have to lay off employees. Thatâs not good for the economy.
Or they may just simply lose enough profit to no longer fund their own production, and disperse the company. Thatâs not good for the economy, either.
Or Canada will shut off the power grid and raise the prices of their minerals they sell to America. Thatâs not good for the economy.
Donald Trump never was the option for the economy. He was the option if you want a bigoted dictatorship. If you canât see that, there is a big problem with how you view him.
If youâre a queer person and voted for him, you voted against yourself. If youâre a poor person and voted for him, you voted against yourself. If youâre a POC who voted for him, you voted against yourself. If youâre a woman who voted for him, you voted against yourself. If youâre a non-Christian who voted for him, you voted against yourself.
At this point in time, I can no longer hold sympathy for those who wanted his presidency. If you did, or still do, just put the eagle on your coat in the same place the swastika was on Nazi uniforms.
He never wanted to boost the economy, he wanted to make himself king.

hey just wanted to put this out there as someone who actively studies american history (and politics in general): never, NEVER, have tariffs been beneficial to the american economy. literally never. they only further contribute to a nationalistic spirit (think america first party type shit) and increase inflation. who'd have guessed that making things cost more... actually makes things cost more. anyways fuck trump
