“What, uh, happened?” Maybe it was just a comment, maybe she didn’t want to elaborate. He never knew what people needed from him, he tried to offer what he expected they wanted. That worked, lots of times. With 85…she just seemed to want whatever his natural response was.

That used to weird him out.

He goes a bit more rigid hearing her talk about her new assignment.
